Gota Double Speak, Double Act

The recent interviews of would be Presidential Candidate and former Secretary to the ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa with Kalum Bandara and Gagani Weerakoon totally exposes his lack
of any political acumen. It would be most dangerous for Sri Lanka even to consider such a pseudo patriot ever running for any political office let alone for Presidency.

Gota

The erstwhile younger Rajapaksa in his interviews goes ON Record to say that the USA and other Western Countries brought pressure on the Mahinda Rajapaksa government to stop the war during the last stages and that they (including him) did not permit it. The rest is now history.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa is highlighted in the media carrying floral tributes from Temple to Temple seeking to veer Buddhist majority to accept that Sri Lanka is predominantly for Buddhists only. This is the implied sentiment in capturing the required majority through Sinhala Buddhist votes.

Let us accept that the USA and Western powers did use pressure to stop the war during the last stages as he goes on record. Let us accept that his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa and himself resisted vehemently and finished off the LTTE leadership and thereby won the war. Good.

So if Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the self appointed future leader of the Sinhala Buddhists (the monks think so too as do the extremist Buddhists) did all to resist the USA and Western powers to stop the war during the last stages CONTINUE TO RETAIN HIS US CITIZENSHIP even to this date, as admitted by him? Not only Gotabaya Rajapaksa, his entire family are citizens of United States of America. Even to date his children live overseas. So much so for the great patriot who wants to make Sri Lanka for Sinhala/Buddhists. Is he not the biggest traitor? Should not Field Marshall speak to Hard Talk’s Stephen Sackur the same way Gota did?

God forbid Sri Lanka. God forbid Sri Lankans’ for lack of clarity in their thought processes. (By Suranimala Umagiliya)

    “Gota Double Speak, Double Act”-

“….carrying floral tributes and such, from Temple to Temple ….”- is not following the Buddha’s Dhamma. It is merely Eyewash aimed at fooling a Gullible Audience!

Scary watching this interview He comes across as a mentally unstable individual! (That look in his eyes) What Sri Lankans see in him I don’t know!

He has all the ingredients for a deranged Dictator.

Sadly this Governments inaction against the Rajapaksas will probably see the return of them in 2020.

Spot on Silva!. Looking at the way he was evading direct eye contact with the interviewer when answering questions, suggests that he may not be telling the truth. It would be interesting to have the opinion of experts in Psychology, of this whole interview.

Avant Guard Gota Privatized the Sri Lanka Navy’s most lucrative marine security operations, to a shadow company to the Sole Super power of which he is a citizen. Today Ranil is outsourcing the Survey Dept. to Trimble and Co.!

Avant Guard is the name of a global surveillance and security company with deep links to the Global deepstate run by western Neo-cons. Gota was and is being played by the Neo-Conservatives in Washington (who have 500 page file on his “war crimes” but won’t try him even though they can as he is a US citizen)., just as is Ranil Wixckramasinghe, their point man who has privatized the Survey Department of Sri Lanka to Trimble and CO.
It is the same game – Avant Guard scam and out-sourcing of Land surveying to Trimble and Co scam! Tamara Kunanayagam is dead right about the Neo Con game unfolding in Lanka today. Only Gota is their man, like RW and they have brokered “reconciliation’ between UNP and SLFP – Ranil and Gota – to serve the deep state of the Sole Superpower. FAKE RECONCILIATION is the name of the game, while anti-Muslims riots distract us all!

Gotabhaya Rajapakse May have told that Sinhala is for buddhists or sinhala people. Even there Tamils eventhough they are Hindus they are aligned with buddhism. there are msulims who are practising very much like buddhists. some catholics are closed to buddhists. IT is Sarath Fonseka who said that Sri lanka is a Sinhala country but we respect others as our brothers and sisters. those are the truth and what ever friction, grudges, professional jealousy they have sinhala people respect them for their good. I tis leadership when they forget and can move on.

Gotabaya is a horrible man who has done horrible things. Talks all the time.

Yes, I remember Fonseka saying that Sri Lanka is a Sinhala country, but he’s a man whose thinking is much simpler, and he has changed some aspects of his thinking.

Fonseka is a good and decent man who doesn’t talk all the time, and he doesn’t seem to have an agenda to seize power over the entire country. It’s not often that he gives press conferences and the like, and he does then speak bluntly, sometimes saying things which later looking outrageous.

Give Fonseka a job, and he seems to it. His greatest heroism was when he bore his imprisonment like a man, asking no favours. He was “changed, changed utterly, a terrible beauty was born”.

This is the impression that I have of him. I’ve not made a careful study of the man and his background, and so I may not be quite right, but I do think that he has much to contribute to the country given his courage and blunt honesty. For honesty, I know that there was something about his son-in-law, but I’m sure that if its scale is set against all the corruptions of the Rajapaksas and Arjuna Mahendran & Co. “And Co” obviously includes a section of the UNP.

If I have made a huge mistake, let me know, I shall acknowledge that there is much that I don’t know. And that includes this strange “Jim Softy” fellow who says contradictory things, but never reveals who he is. He writes on every conceivable subject, but fortunately few take him seriously.

Creating white van culture, killing prisoners who were unarmed, attacking media centers, killing and attacking media person, in which Buddhist manuscript is it said these are acts of a Buddhist? Above all when the war was on with LTTE running away to USA and then coming back and sitting in an air conditioned room, subsequently when Sarath Fonseke won the war claiming that he directed the war, who would call him a loyal Sri Lankan? No thanks go back to USA, but before that please visit our prison for a period of time for all you have done.

Good question. Maybe because he pulled the wool over Sri Lankan eyes. He was behind a lot of the crimes going on in the country, from the white vans, Lasantha, journalists threatened, kidnapped, and killed, and let us not forget he was the man who opened the BBS offices, at the height of tensions, and hate mongering, by the saffron robed terrorists. What did any Rajapaksa do, to curb it, and this so called “tough” guy just wasn’t tough with this despicable monk. Why was Wirathu allowed to come in to this country and sign a pact with our thug Gnanasara? Surely the Rajapaksa’s could have stopped that, if they were against the anti Muslim violence? Let us not forget that Gnanasara went on a very suspicious trip to the US and Norway, so there are suspicious connections that we may never know. Sri Lankans would be fools to vote for this corrupt and dangerous lot again.

I don’t think gota is having the same mindset as mahinda and basil. His dress is a distinct giveaway. While they put their lungis and purple necklaces he wears always suit and tie like ranil.he must be thinking just like ranil does that there are a lot of village idiots in the country including his brothers and nephews.he does not like to be considered a country bumpkin. All this temple to temple floral tributes are a lot of eyewash for the masses.Let us see him one daay renouncing his US citizenship and wearing the same dress including purple necklace of his brothers and then we can say that he is truly a person who believes in 20th century stuff like them.Knowing his stubborn streak i am sure i will not see him dress like his brothers ever. The day he does that only i can accept he truly has views just like those village idiots. His major weakness i believe is mental illness called paranoia, other than that i don’t think he is a racist or person with outdated ideas.he better start taking the antidepressents which his fellow americans keep popping.

Would Gotabaya have returned to Sri Lanka if the SLPP did not do well at the recent LG Polls?

Even if he resisted US Pressure during the War, the all important question is, should he become President in 2020, will he continue to resist the all too common US Pressures or let Sri Lanka become a vassal state of the US?

“Buddhism is religion remain in Island over 2600 years “

To begin with Buddhism is a philosophy and not a religion.
The Theravati Sinhala/Buddhists made it into a ritualistic religion adapting many aspects from Hinduism including caste hierarchy.

The Buddha was born in 563B.C.
Asoka ruled part of India between 273 BC and 232 B.C.
      Ashoka’s title was Devanam Priyadarshi
He sends his monks to Sri Lanka in 2nd century BC to convert the island king Devanampiya- Tissa to Buddhism.
Therefore Sri Lanka didn’t remain a Buddhist island for 2600 years. The island never remained a Buddhist island.

You should fact check before you start typing your bull in this forum.

NV, just for the benefit of all, though it has been projected as one, the caste system is NOT hierarchical nor was it intended to be discriminatory. It is rather based on the concept of division of labour so that the society serves itself better by allocating human effort systematically to meet the needs of the society. Nobody, even in this present day is Jack of all trades! Like most things in the ancient times knowledge too was passed down the generation by word of mouth, thus the knowledge derived from specialisation in particular areas of activity was conveniently passed down through one’s own kith and kin. However, over the years people have abused the system by making false claims that it is a hierarchical one, purely for their own selfish needs and exploitation through discrimination. If one follows politics in India, a country where caste based abuses are rife, you will not find any takers among politicians to rid the system of caste, because they know well that would sever their lifeline, namely the vote bank politics!

What Suranimala doesn’t say is that Rajapakses lost the election because they did not listen to USA and the West. USA might have considered Gota as a traitor to USA for not carrying out their orders and not the other way around as Suranimala tries to portray. Majority people of this country would believe Gota over Suranimala because they can see it through. The other point Suranimala omits is that Sarath Fonseka was in the USA just prior to announcing his candidacy. He was asked to return to SL by the govt just before he was to have a meeting with the US State Department. Would Suranimala question SF motives?

Dr Gota (DSc) is an American citizen he enjoys freedom speech in America.
Dr Gota (DSc) is an American citizen he does not approve of freedom speech in Sri Lanka.
Dr Gota (DSc) is also a Sri Lankan citizen he does not approve of freedom speech for Sri Lankan.
Dr Gota (DSc) is also a Sri Lankan citizen he enjoys freedom speech like American in Sri Lanka.

Is there a word or phrase to describe Dr Gota’s privileges, having the cake and eating it, hypocrisy, double standard, speaking in two toungue, ….. ?

Just because Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is a dual US citizen, it does mean that he cannot be critical of the United States. I, myself, worked for the US Department of State for 25 years, at the American Embassy in Colombo as a political specialist, a pensioner of the US federal government, now a dual US citizen: Nevertheless, I published a book last year TAMIL TIGERS’ DEBT TO AMERICA: US FOREIGN POLICY ADVENTURISM & SRI LANKA’S DILEMMA, very critical 650-page investigative/research/analitical book of American foreign policy approaches to human rights. The argument that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa cannot criticize the United States just because he is a US citizen doesn’t hold water. In fact, Washington cut military aid to Sri Lanka in 2008 at a time Sri Lanka was battling the separatist LTTE which threatened the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation. Obviously as the defense secretary who handled the war against the Tigers, Gotabhaya was very much frustrated with the United States – Daya Gamage

What does his US citizenship has to do with his credentials? He didn’t make his US citizenship an obstacle to do his duty for the country.

If US has any problem with his US citizenship, they can take appropriate meassures to decide what are they going to do with him. Sri Lanka should not worry about that. That is non of our issue. Of course we can decide what we are going to do with his SL citizenship if he proves to be unpatriotic to us. So far he hasn’t shown any inkling of such.

By the way, there are MPs of the Tamil National Alliance who holds dual citizenships just like Gota. I don’t see anyone being critical about those MPs just as they are critical about Gota.

An easy analogy to simplify your undying defense of Gotabaya.

Lets say you are a parent of a daughter while she was swimming in the river she starts to drown a man comes and saves her life then later on he comes back and rapes her.

I guess you would support his action and defend him because after all he save her life and you are so grateful to him.
Here lies your defective moral compass.

Who is Fonseka to speak about the war process with foreign journalists? He was just a paid soldier hired by the government to carry out his duties of one branch of the entire security apparatus. Why should he be elevetaed over the other heads of the forces just because he had the biggest number of soldiers to command? Does the quantity prevails over everything else?

Are you infering Gotabaya gave his services to Sri Lanka without any monetary compensation for himself voluntary as mega rich US citizen unlike SF?
I presume by your comments you must have served in the front lines during the war engaging in battle against LTTE terrorist unpaid as a patriotic Sri Lankan citizen.

        Leonard,

Gotabaya did his service to the country as any self respecting patriotic man would. There is no such thing in this world as working free to show ones patriotism. If you think that it is then you are a bigger imbecile than I have previously thought.

If the voter elects him that is their stupidity. He calls himself a patriot but ran away to the USA when he was needed as a officer in the field. He was even willing to just work as a 7 Eleven clerk which he considered safe than being in Sri Lanka.
He came back only after he was given a position and a posh office to work in safety. God only knows how many rouge units he had to protect himself and to take out political and media opponents. Nothing is confirmed as no proper investigation has been done thanks to My3.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

      Burt,

What a pack of lies. Gota resigned from the army after completing 30 years of unblemished service to the country. He himself has said that he lost the confident in the victory when the people he recognized as the heros who would lead the country to victory were laid to waste.

He could have stayed in the army while enjoying full luxuries that government can throw upon him while leading thousands of innocent kids to their deaths just because he was ordered to. Fonseka did just that. Ravaya ran a news article in 1994 accusing Fonseka for promoting himself to higher ranks through illegal means.

Three years have passed since the fall of Rajapakshas but still you people are accusing every tom, dick and harry for neglecting to apprehend them. How many years are you people going to continue this farce? No one can give prove something that is not real.

Now, the so called Yahanpalanya NIDAHASA has manifested in racial hatred and inactivity. The country is almost without a government as one diplomat told me. Some ministers are not even attending cabinet meetings.

“So if Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the self appointed future leader of the Sinhala Buddhists.”

Gotabaya Rajapakse is not self-appointed future leader of the Sinhala Buddhists. A large number of Sinhala Buddhists want him as the leader. A large majority of Sinhala Buddhists rejected President Sirisena and even the Sinhala Buddhists who voted for him at the last election will never ever vote for him again.

With the possibility of Gotabaya Rajapakse coming as a Presidential candidate Tamil Diaspora, LTTE cadres who are hiding in Western countries, some NGO guys are shitting bricks.

People who want him as the President have no problem with his dual citizenship because to contest he will have to give up US citizenship. Patriotism is not written in a piece of paper; it is in the heart!

The bearer of the pseudo name, “Suranimala Umagaliya” has clearly started his hate campaign against GR in the right platform CT, of which a sizable readership is diagnosed with anti-Rajapakshe, anti Sinhala Buddhist phobia. His arguments are pathetic and lame. For example, Suranimala says “GR’s son resides in US and GR keeps his US citizenship so his patriotism is bogus!” Lol! If that is how he calculates “honesty”, I would like to know how he categorizes Karl Marks decision to have his retirement in a “capitalist” city! The “Suranimala” part obviously has taken from late Lasantha Wickremetunge. He used the pseudo name “Suranimala” when contributed to Sunday Times, if my memory is right. Go on Umagaliya. Lets see your effort will finally be paid off or not in 2 years time if Ranil Wickremesinghe gives us a presidential election in year 2020. (Be that as it may Sure, take your full payment from your pay master regularly instead of waiting for 2020).
