The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has recommended Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera to allocate funds in the next budget to make state buildings accessible to persons with disabilities.
In a letter to the Finance and Media Minister, Chairperson of Human Rights Commission, Dr.Deepika Udugama says Article 14 (1) (h) of the Constitution guarantees the freedom of movement while Article 12 (4) of the Constitution makes provisions for special measures to be taken for the advancement of people with disabilities.

But, what is the advice by the Human Rights Commission to the Government of Sri Lanka on the coming Geneva session on the 30/1 resolution. Your credibility and impartiality need to be explained.

In most countries which consider the welfare services as of primary importance to citizens – not to politicians and bureocrats, provisions are available in public buildings and in transport ( buses, trains etc. ) for accommodation with convenience, of citizens – from babies in strollers to elderly in wheel chairs – manual & motorised – even to be hoisted inside and anchored during travel.
Sri Lanka can commence with special walkways in buildings and special accommodation in trains.

Did the HRCSL Chairperson HRCSL ask MS how Duterte did it?

Please Chairperson, find out as to whether the method adopted to ‘rehabilitate’ those held at Agunakolapelessa Prison is perverse or not.
And for that matter the ‘rehabilitation’ of Naval Ratings at Welisara Navy Camp.

Everyone in Sri Lanka is a disabled person in one way or the other. Physical disable, Mental disable and Financial disable.

Financially disabled cases are very high and sky rocketing. HR, please ask Finance Minister to do something about this also. At least cut down on unwanted taxes and not to introduce some new taxes.
