Former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said the allegations leveled against him on plundering state wealth – particularly the wealth accumulated after the defeat of the LTTE – are baseless and claims he is not even financially well-off to buy a house for himself.
“The truth is I don’t even have a house to live in still. I am trying to buy a house because the house that I currently live in is owned by my mother-in-law and she was living here for 40 years. I currently use this house because she is living in the US,” he has said in an interview with the Daily Mirror.
He has said the decision to not prosecute LTTE Leader KP was mutually agreed on by the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the three security commanders because they believed it would pave way for him to cooperate with their investigations into the LTTE network.
However, as for KP’s wealth and his fleet of ships that Gotabaya is accused of taking control, he has said that he has no idea about it because all details are with the military intelligence, some of which even he hasn’t had access to.
Meanwhile, he has stated that he believes the failure to punish members of the government promptly for their wrongdoings is one of the reasons that contributed towards the public losing faith in his brother’s regime.

Public servants are always recruited with necessary qualifications, rise in service with seniority and efficiency bars, and have to prove themselves before such an appointment.
He served himself and the Rajapakse family only, and not the nation.
He had the powers to imprison citizens without any inquiry.
Untrammelled power was thrust on him and he became a dictater’s sidekick.
Now he is in oblivion and no one will even spit on him.

How about all the real estate purchased by the Rajapaksa’s under House of FASION. Please do not confuse it with house of FASHION. It was a deliberate ploy to mislead any investigation on their assets, as house of fashion could afford luxury houses in Colombo. One of the properties that Mahinda owns is a 120 perch block next to JRJ’s and was bought from a prominent Muslim family for a price of 500 million a few years back. It is also registered under house of fashion. The house owned by Gota down Balapokuna road, which intact is a fortress is also registered under this company, whose directors are unknown, but anyone can check this with the registrar of companies. The Rajapaksas won property worth over 12 billion in Sri Lanka. We would need a special commission to look in to the Rajapaksa real estate assets ALONE. Further, their DOGS are worth millions. We, the people of Sri Lanka have paid for all these and it is time for us to reap the benefits of it
