I Will Not Give Up My American Citizenship: Basil Rajapaksa

I will not give up my American citizenship, says Basil Rajapaksa.

My children and wife live there, there is nothing to hide about it. I came to politics while keeping my American citizenship, he told BBC Sinhala service.

Criticising the 19th Amendment he said that the sole purpose of the amendment was to block he and his brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

On April 28, 2015 the Parliament adopted the 19th Amendment to the constitution. Two hundred and twelve (212) Members of Parliament (MPs) voted for the amendment while only one, MP Sarath Weerasekara voted against it.

The 19th Amendment added a new sub-paragraph to the paragraph “Disqualification for election as Member of Parliament” in the Article 91 of the constitution.

According to the newly introduced 19th amendment to the Constitution, a Sri Lankan Citizen holding citizenship status in another country cannot hold a seat in the legislature.

Among the important features of the Bill are: the reduction in the terms of President and Parliament from six years to five years; re-introduction of a two-term limit that a person can have as President; the power of President to dissolve Parliament only after four and a half years [unlike one year, as prevalent now]; the revival of Constitutional Council and the establishment of independent commissions; right to information as a fundamental right.

What sort of UNEDUCATED clowns and jokers there are in the Diyawenna Parliament of corrupt morons!

Geetha, Amunugama’s girl friend and Basil Jarapassa have lied in Parliament about their citizenship. They broke the law and should be held accountable, tried and put behind bars.

Getha’s and Basil’s duty free SUVs should be confiscated. The culture of lies and impunity for corrupt politician must end! Ranil Wickramasinghe the bond scammer who has looted Lanka needs to be accountable to the people for FAILURE TO BRING CORRUPT POLITICIANS TO JUSTICE.
Sirisena will will the next elections hand down as the people are tired of both Jarapassa and Corrupt Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Civil society organizations must publish names of the corrupt politicians and the clean ones for people to vote for clean politicians at next elections.

We can insult the Rajapakses till the cows come home …… but the vast majority of Sinhala-Buddhists steeped in their slave-morality see the master-morality of the Rajapakses and admire it and buy it wholesale …. as the mammoth crowds indicate ….. gotta be man enough to accept that they did not come just for the money or the arrack ……..

Master–slave morality is a central theme of Friedrich Nietzsche’s works, in particular the first essay of On the Genealogy of Morality. Nietzsche argued that there were two fundamental types of morality: ‘Master morality’ and ‘Slave morality’. Slave morality values things like kindness, humility, and sympathy, while master morality values pride, strength, and nobility. Master morality weighs actions on a scale of good or bad consequences (i.e. classical virtues and vices, consequentialism), unlike slave morality which weighs actions on a scale of good or evil intentions (e.g. Christian virtues and vices, Kantian deontology).
For Nietzsche, a particular morality is inseparable from the formation of a particular culture, meaning that a culture’s language, codes and practices, narratives, and institutions are informed by the struggle between these two moral structures (see valuation).

Master morality – Nietzsche defined master morality as the morality of the strong-willed. Nietzsche criticizes the view, which he identifies with contemporary British ideology, that good is everything that is helpful, and bad is everything that is harmful. He argues proponents of this view have forgotten the origins of its values, and is based merely on a non-critical acceptance of habit: what is useful has always been defined as good, therefore usefulness is goodness as a value. He continues explaining, that in the prehistoric state, “the value or non-value of an action was derived from its consequences,”[1] but ultimately, “There are no moral phenomena at all, only moral interpretations of phenomena.”[2] For strong-willed men, the ‘good’ is the noble, strong, and powerful, while the ‘bad’ is the weak, cowardly, timid, and petty. – Wikipedia

Time to read good old Friedricho Nietzschellini …….. I can’t make the head or tail of what he is saying ……..

Yes, we need to get rid of this man.

I wonder why the current govt fails to get him cornered in the US. No doubt, the sums they have grabbed from previous tyrannial regime are not overlooked.

Can any srilanken american please add the facts about the ground realities of this Basil. That can then help us all to see forward. His wife and family did not turn up since the govt has been in power. We noticed all of them left the country immediately hour mafia king was defeated.

If I were Highcommissioner to SL embassy in the US, I would not stay away not focusing on all the assets Basil and his family collected in the US, over the last 10 years from the day they the family with all the bed crumbs entered the US.

That way we the real guys that ve been longing to have corrption and abuse minimising nation, can achieve our goals.

Guys, please join hand to gather factful information about this crook. He is the most abusive in the Mafia Family.

If you guys would help hand, we can reduce the debts the country have been taken to this day, by getting the illegal properties confiscated by the responisble govts.

That way, those host countries for criminals can get cornered. We also know MIG transactions, and the related issue with Udayanga who is one another highy abusive cousins of Basil is still scot free. What interpol does in that regard is not yet clear even if RTI is in action in the country according to today s information.

DUDE: High Commissioners are ONLY referred when one is appointed to .a COMMONWEALTH nation. Get your ignorant nomenclature right. Ambassador to US; High Commission to UK, Canada, Australia etc because those are Dominion republics and are part of the Commonwealth. At least become aware of the nomenclature. POLAND and other nations ALLOW dual citizens to hold office. So many nations do. This law was passed to block GR and BR. Pathetic xenophobia. I do not support GR or BR but that is a fact.

Your appeal I bet is falling into deaf ears. All ambassadors and high commissioners, wherever they are must be hoping that they retire from office at those locations so that they could find a niche to settle down in those foreign countries. If it is good enough for BR, then its good enough for the SLK reps in office. When cards are down everyone looks after themselves. never mind the patriotism or the search for looted national assets squirreled away in those foreign abodes.

Dual nationality is a travesty and should NEVER have been allowed. You must be aligned to one country – and do so with a total commitment. This facility should be abolished immediately. If you want to be a Sri Lankan be so without keeping your options open to escape as and when one pleases.

It is a disgraceful option and certainly no MP should have such ambiguity.

It has been reported that the psychopath Gota has already given up his green card status ;incidentally , to escape from US federal law of War crime charges. Gota the goon knows damn well that he is a liability ;thus, upon entering the US soil , he can be arrested . on his last visit to the US , he had been interrogated and warned about his future prospects . as for Basil the Mr 10% , he should have been arrested in the USA for not declaring his real income and properties for IRS.
These Rajapakse brothers are known to be the top sinhala Buddhist patriots among us but when it comes to dual citizenship , they are very reluctant to let go , what a bunch of hypocrites ?

The people who have dual citizenship have seen and heard more than local politicians. Without a doubt the people who have dual citizenship will do a better job than local politicians. Sadly, the Sri Lankan Parliament is not wise enough to understand it, but following the same laws of powerful countries. Sri Lanka hasn’t had leaders who were strong enough to change the laws as they see fit for the country’s development. The current and previous leaders have been strong enough to change the laws to keep their power, in order to build their own wealth at the expense of people.

I Will Not Give Up My American Citizenship: Basil Rajapaksa

Ruthless corrupt dictators, their clan and cronies are always welcome in USA and UK, the last refuge of crooks, war criminals, and habitual human rights violators.

Well said; I don’t understand how this crook obtained US Citizenship. Apparently, prior to moving to the USA, he was a caretaker of a coconut estate and his brother Gota lived as a “tinker man” and spent some time as a lowly paid “Computer Operator” in the USA.People should know these fellows are illiterates and none of them have had decent education. Therefore, though the judiciary in Sri Lanka has miserably failed to indict these guys, the “people’s court” must be prepared to deny these two hoodlums and alike in the parliament another chance to enter into active politics.

Everything you need to know about trade economics, in 70 words.
by George P. Shultz, a former U.S. secretary of labor, treasury and state.

If a country consumes more than it produces, it must import more than it exports. That’s not a rip-off; that’s arithmetic.

If we manage to negotiate a reduction in the Chinese trade surplus with the United States, we will have an increased trade deficit with some other country.

Federal deficit spending, a massive and continuing act of dissaving, is the culprit. Control that spending and you will control trade deficits.

          Sri Lanka:
          Exports – partners:
          US 26%, UK 9%, India 7.2%, Germany 4.3% (2015)
          Imports – partners:
          India 24.6%, China 20.6%, UAE 7.2%, Singapore 5.9%, Japan 5.7% (2015)

So little Sri Lanka has to play Cool but it Fools thanks to stupid racist in the land. Clinton and US loves the control of islands which are apparently controlled by multinationals.

            Tsylana,

I gather you know a bit about Imports, Exports , Fiscal control, Monetary control, Deficit Financing and Taxation.

That is a heck of a lot more than what I have heard from the myriad of PhDs who are Yahapalana suckers here.

That includes the UNP Whizz Kid Dr Harsha ,who needs a bit of grooming in Arithmetic.

No wonder he is the assistant to our pretty FM who boasted in Kotte the other day, that he is proud to be one of them.

Anyway my neighbor in Wellala Gardens has the latest Beamer 350, parked under cover, while I catch the CTB to Manning market, to buy crabs in the morning.

Does it say anything about the trade deficit of our Mahawamsa nation that you are on about.

            And how to finance it?.

BTW, where did you get this idea that Sumane is anti Demala and anti Vellala.

I don’t care about any of those definitions. All I want is our inhabitants to have a level playing field, where they can bring up their children so that they can have the same benefits that you have in Diaspora Lands.

The west is built on 2 great wars called WW1 and 2 whereby they sharpened their tools and the industrial revolution. After WW2 the idea of social security came into play- that is where you lack compassion of the winner.
Being jealous only boomerangs (by any chance have you lost your Gleneagles?)and one day you may have to walk closer to wella beach and fish for crabs.

you could apply the same principal to Mahawamsa nation
Government debt of about 82% of GDP ($60 billion) remains among the highest in emerging markets.

It is the common Law of Lankawe that the Royals are exempted from any crimes. Through 1978 Constitution expressly exempted “The King on the Throne”, but in all other circumstances, the Common Law applies. Remember, this is not accidental. This is real among Lankawe Royal politicians.

Old Younger Brother Prince can keep his MP(if not elected next time, he can be nominated) and dual citizenship. Ranil promised on the early morning of January, 9th 2015 at the Temple Tree House to keep war criminals protected. He publicly claims that he is the one saved the war criminals.

Sirimavo one time lost her Civil Right but reinstated under the Common Law that a Royal cannot make a mistake. Old King & New King have files on each other but never anyone was prosecuted with that information. Old Royal princes’ crimes were negotiated based on Dulanjali was honored from her crimes. “Brawl at the Clique” too was based on this Common Law principle. Princes get certificate of degrees for sitting and playing computers in air conditioned room.

Last year, even in Saudi Arabia two were punished, on got decapitated. Under No one from Lankawe Royals are prosecuted.

Renunciation of U.S. Citizenship is a very simple exercise. Just visiting the US Embassy in Colombo & doing the following.

1, appear in person before a U.S. consular or diplomatic officer,
2, in a foreign country  at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate; and
3, sign an oath of renunciation

Gota will renounce the US citizenship at the righ time

  • 13
    0

Mr. Basil Rajapakse: Who wants to know of your retention or surrender of the US citizenship? What concerns most and want to know is why you are allowed to roam around this country enjoying the freedom that other law abiding citizens are having, without you been stripped of your Sri Lankan citizenship and made to live in Welikada or a similar prison. Also, in the above interview, you speak of the “Largest Preferential Vote” you received from Gampaha. Yes. The people of Gampaha are still ashamed of that and trying to heal the wounds. In the midst, you recall that blind act of the people and rekindle the wounds. Is it correct for you to do that? Instead, if this Government is not keeping you out of sight of the people of this country, why not go back to US and join your wife and children and spend the rest of your life there. My only doubt is how you are going to have PEACE of mind. That will be an uphill task. You believe in Buddha’s teachings and I wish to remind you of one of it, i.e. “CHUTHI CHITTA” – the thoughts that come to haunt you at the last inhale or exhale of your breath. Be aware of it and be prepared.

According to Dr.DJ’s definition smart patriots are superior to ordinary citizens who are patriots.

Look back at Srimavo-Sastri pact and see how the Tea Estate workers who contributed to the economy were treated. Even now many of the narrow minded Sinhalese will tell born and bred SL Tamils you are Kallathonis go back to India.
Rajapakses are against International Jury hearing the war time crimes from both sides but when it comes to citizenship they are proud to be US citizens.

      Non PhD:

British brought Tea estate workes because they needed cheap labour, Tamils wanted food to eat. It is British who abandoned them. they came and filled our upcountry.

why should we treat estate Tamils ?

It is you Tamils still licking the colonial master.

      • 1
        4

To be exact, British brought 65,000 Tamil labourers from Tamil Nadu and Kerala to develop the plantation industry.Subsequently after many decades (Now it is over million) It was Sirima Bandaranaike who paved the way for them to remain in Sri Lanka (Failure to implement Sirima-Shastri Pact). Bandaranikes and all SLFP governments must take the responsibility for this biggest blunder. Oh by the way Arjuna Mahendran is a by product of this biggest blunder.

        • 2
          0

The Portuguese and Dutch brought in a few hundred thousand Tamil labourers from what is Kerala and Tamil Nadu a few centuries ago and their descendants are now around 7-8million speaking Sinhalese and calling themselves Sinhalese Buddhists or Catholics. Making up 50% of the present day Sinhalese population. Unlike the Indian origin estate Tamils imported by the British in the these Sinhalised descendants of the low caste Indian Tamils labourers imported during the Portuguese and Dutch era, have not contributed to anything other than creating chaos and beating the anti Tamil drum. Why aren’t they also being deported back to Tamil Nadu/Kerala? Is it because they now speak Sinhalese and identity themselves as Sinhalese but the estate Tamils have still retained their Tamil identity and Hindu religion there one lot of Indian Tamil labourers are acceptable but not the other lot

            Hey Real Siva;

You must be referring to Bandaranaikes and Ranil Wickramasinghesas the few hundred brought by Portuguese and Dutch. We know they are not Sinhales. However, it appears you really mistaken about the “Real Sinhala Buddhists” and the founders of Sri Lanka. At least educate yourself by reading useful history books. I pity ignorant people.

Who are the real Sinhala Buddhist and founders of Sri Lanka? The Dravidian Naga and Yakka who spoke a semi Tamil Dravidian dialect called Elu? King Devanambiya Tiss who converted to Buddhism but had a Tamil Hindu father named Mutta Sivan? The Naga King Duttigemunu again with a father with a Tamil name Kakkai Vanna Theesan. King Parakramabahu who is from the Pandian Tamil dynasty and erected a statue to Saint Agathiyar the father of Tamil. Now Sinhalese are trying to portray this as his statue? The Tamil Cholas who founded Polonarruwa and built all those lovely Hindu and Buddhist ruins, that the Sinhalese are now falsely displaying to the world as the marvel of ancient Sinhalese civilisation, when it is all really Tamil. The beautiful Kandy Lake built by the Tamil Nayakar kings from Madurai? I think you go and read your history properly instead of the fairly tales published by South Indian Tamil origin Karawa queen Janali Borukiyanage

Basil ,to which country are you really loyal ?

    I think neither.

You are just an opportunist making the best of whatever the country offers you.

If America goes to war with China , you will betray America and spy for china, for money of course.

If your family is in America, and your interest are there, why did you buy that expensive land in Gampaha ?

In America, do you declare all the money you make in Sri Lanka ? It is a federal offence not to declare foreign held wealth.

You are bloody lucky that your main opponent is the non-performing but all knowing RW

Sri lanka is the only where the political system is a joke. Sri lanka is the only country in which people with no honesty, no integrity, no shame, no self-respect appear as VVIPs and talk about running the country.

MR allowed him to enter politics despite being a dual citizen.
In fact most of the countries in the world does not allow dual citizens to enter politics. There’s nothing personal or political in it but it is in national interest.

Let’s wait for the Supreme Court to rule on Gita vs whoever ?

The SC might kick this back to the legislature asking it to correct any technicality or will uphold decision against Gita.

Then, all dual citizens will have to leave parliament. Unless, they give up the other countries citizenship, temporarily.

Now, will RW and MS come to the rescue of the Rajapaksas ? For future insurance, they both might.

This 20% will become a citizen in any country if there is a way of plundering commissions, His wife too is a partner in the business. Anyway he has to face all the charges and go to jail as a Srilankan citizen, and when USA is informed about the sentences for what reason he may lose his US citizenship

Yes. Otherwise we will still be having war despite all these big talkers. MR and GR selected SF. THEY DID SF A favour. They extended his term after he was rejected by Chandrika madam. I shall always be grateful that those 3 wiped out the scum Tamil Tiger ghouls from my motherland and homeland.

It is well known among the Sri Lankan (and ex-Sri Lankan) community that Basil bought a 400 Acre plot in Yuba City of US. If that is true where are his gains? They all are from Sri Lanka and most likely from the public purse, directly or indirectly. When the guy says he will not give up his US citizenship it can mean two possibilities but all ending up in the same objective of squandering the public purse. The first possibility is that the he expects that Geetha’s disqualification will be overturned by the higher court on Appeal so that he can continue his nefarious activities in the usual manner. The second alternative is he is giving a clear message that he need not have a political appointment to suck the juice out of the ordinary man.

Oh! God! we made a big noise about the ill gotten wealth. But no one was put behind bars for that, except remanding a few fellows for a few weeks.

Basil ran to his beloved country days after 08 January 2015. Then he went to Vietnam and then back to SL once the coast was clear.

Geetha will get her job back because “they” cannot dislodge Basil.

Basil and his Kussiamma can go back to LA. Yes the amendment was specifically to block GR and BR; But BR made lots of money. From Mister ten percent he went to Mister 50 percent.

GR selected SF and did SF a favor. Without that SF would have been retired. SF tried his best to get Chandrika Madam to give him an extension. She turned him down and her cronies made allegations against SF. SF wanted revenge and got together with his fellow Sinhala Buddhist types and punished her by reducing her security. After going after her he did not give her time of day until mutual interests in 2010 brought them together in their mutual hatred of MR. MR gave political leadership to end the war; no other leader has his charisma in SL now. GR is interesting. He got good things done but has some mental case side to him where he goes ballistic and screams and gets angry out of his inferiority complex or something else. Perhaps out of love of absolute power. He and SF are about the same mentally but SF is worse because of his other issues.

Best is to make RW President with Tamil and Muslim votes even if Sinhala majority will not vote for him; he needs to only get about 40% of Sinhala vote and 100% of T and M votes. He will get that. It is like how Obama won. He only got around 40% of White votes but got virtually 100% negro vote and 90% of Hispanic vote. I support RW 100% . Right leader for rebuilding. MR was the right leader to beat Tiger terrorists.

A dual citizen should not be allowed to hold a seat in the legislature of Sri Lanka. The reason is, if a dual citizenship holder commits any wrongdoing in Sri Lanka while holding office, can leave the country without any hindrance in the event of change in government and escape being prosecuted. I think this is the purpose of the 19th amendment.
