JVP Likely To Initiate Impeachment Motion Against Sirisena: Also Pledges To Initiate Investigation Against Coup Offenders

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna indicated that it would initiate an impeachment motion against President Maithripala Sirisena for deliberately acting in violation of the Constitution, Colombo Telegraph learns.

Anura Kumara

The impeachment motion will be based on the unanimous ruling delivered by the Supreme Court stating the President’s actions are unconstitutional.

Speaking to the media, JVP Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said they would initiate a no-confidence motion if the President continues to act in violation of the Constitution. He confirmed that an impeachment motion could be brought against the President.

Speaking after the Supreme Court ruling today, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said a special investigation should be launched to prosecute everyone who supported the “Constitutional Coup” on October 26 and afterwards.

The JVP Leader said his party would also take the lead in initiating this process inside Parliament.

Meanwhile, UPFA MPs held a discussion with the President after the Supreme Court delivered its verdict. It is learnt that the UPFA MPs have discussed the possibility of “resigning from the government” during the meeting with the President. The UPFA MPs continue to identify themselves as the ruling party although the Court of Appeal interim order has ousted them temporarily.

President Sirisena, speaking to the UPFA MPs, had said he would take future political action after taking the opinion of the Supreme Court on former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s appeal against the Court of Appeal interim order into account. He had also said he was “not ready” to work with UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

How could this God damn SOB idiot Shitsena say he could not work with Ranil, nothing like that is mentioned in the constitution. Already he put himself and his buddy MR in the deep shits, and by his next stupid moves, he is going to sink more deeper into the stinking shits. All signs indicate that this lunatic is not fit to hold that office, and should be chases out of it, sooner the better.

      Yes !! Absolutely!!
Before the “Idi Amin ” of Silli Lanka causes more catastrophe he should be impeached and banged up for all other damaging activities done in our country.

Why dose’t the JVP ALSO start an impeachment motion against Bondscam Ranil who looted the Central Bank twice? Bond Ranil and Mahinda Jarapassa must share the same prison cell for Financial Crimes against people of Lanka.
Why has JVP not asked for the PCOI Report into the Central Bank Bond scam to be released with all those names? JVP is playing a very dirt game at this time, it seems.

Bondscam Ranil, Trupland’s puppet in their Cold War with China in Indian Ocean, was destroying the Lankan economy with his World Bank, IMF-MCC, ADB, Fake Xperts who have put Lanka into a massive “Middle Income Country” (MIC) Debt trap and were crashing the rupee to asset strip the island. As they did with Greece
JVP has been bought by Ranil’s backers too it seems.. No Economic Justice or Rights in Herath and AKD’s agenda it seems..

While I agree 100% with the JVP that impeachment of President Maithripala Sirisena is needed what is this talk about the “JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today parliament should still be dissolved.”!?

Is this another cunning act of collusion to protect those behind #CoupLk and the Rajapaksas from the special courts!?

Is Mano Ganesan with the JVP on this?

Now can we also see treason charges brought against all those behind #CoupLk and the collaborators?

“JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today parliament should still be dissolved.”

That shows his ignorance. The SC ruling is based on the 19A which does not allow it to be dissolved.

      JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake,

Where do you think the constitutional coup conspirators will try to hide? Under Sirisena’s sarong? There is more room now, that Sirisena’s balls have dissolved along with the dissolution of the parliament

Looser, Sirisena you should resign immediately if you left with little dignity, which I don’t think. You are done Gamarala.

    Yes … … Go … JVP … Go
The tide is turning. You may be able to muster the required 2/3 majority to impeach the rogue president. He has clearly violated the constitution, and is likely to do more damage to himself by breaking more laws in the coming days as this judgement is bound to unhinge him totally. Many in his SLFP too would then join in ousting him.

A good move indeed. But will the JVP get a 2/3 majority? I am inclined to believe that all the MP’s who are disillusion with the drama enacted by Srisena may join the JVP in voting for Impeachment.

One prediction is MS/MR inciting violence to counter the supreme court verdict. I think it is time Lankan public , JVP , UNP , trade unions , civil movements, activist and true patriots together taking action and fight against these criminals . If they truly love the country they need to see an end to unconstitutional MS who trampled the constitution of the country. Also drag all the criminals to the courts. Otherwise this battle for justice will be of vain. Remember in Pakistan when PM went against the court ruling and sacked CJ , who took the case to the streets and with the support of public and other political parties saw an end to PM sheriff , who is now behind bars.

Dear Chiv, the CJ of Pakistan Justice Chuadry have rulings against Gen Musharraf the all powerful military ruler and when Musharraf countered him the lawyers took to streets. The second occasion was last year July when CJ Nisal gave ruling against Nawaz Sharif, in that occasion Nawaz stepped down in a matter of 2 hours

Yes an impeachment motion should be brought and the insane executive sent back to Polonnaruwa. Dayan the political scientist can accompany and escort him and could be designated as an ambassador for a village in Pollonnaruwa.

      NR:
With SC ruling there is enough grounds for impeachment but can JVP muster the votes in a culture politicians don’t vote based on principle but personal gain.

Now that it is understood beyond a reasonable doubt that Appaya is not mentally sound he needs a guardian . I think this is an appropriate job for Dayan.

    The argument isn’t reasonable

How can it be a deliberate action (to work against the constitution)?

Had he done it with an evil intention?

It’s good for us to accept the fact that though he failed to get SC advise before attempted dissolution, he had done it with good intention.

    How can he be impeached?

People won’t support JVP intention to impeach the president.

Even the TNA have said they won’t support impeaching the president.

UNP acting with hatred must be stopped & must try to propose sb else for PM ship for the president to function without any difficulty because what president say about RW is @ least 50% right.

People don’t want such a politician so what MS did was taking the people’s side.

      PART ONE

      Dear RR,

That the country is deeply divided is true. “UNP acting with hatred must be stopped”. Now comes reconciliation time, and us, the people, getting on with our lives.
      .
What Sirisena tried to do is crazy, and what now follows must ensure that such abuses of the system are never repeated. He is a stubborn man? Can he be brought to re-appoint Ranil? It is what he ought to do in the light of recent events. Sirisena has made such an ass for himself, that if impeachment can be done through a 50% victory for such a motion at a Referendum is the way, that may succeed, but it would be inadvisable. I don’t know what the form now has to be, but I’m sick of politics non-stop. Some enjoy it.
      .
Real Revolutionist is right in his assertion that the country is fed up with Ranil. He may be able to demonstrate huge personal popularity in the Western Province, and especially in the area where he is the “organiser”. Isn’t it strange that most of us still look at those figures although that is only a way in which votes are counted?
      .
Taking the country as a whole, Ranil has little personal support. Even if we consider those who, island-wide, end up voting UNP at elections, most would like to see a change of leadership. That is different from how leadership of the UNP is manipulated. So, the question is: how are we to get rid of those who manipulate the leadership of the UNP, and thus of the Party, so that the country as a whole becomes a functioning democracy?
      .
Ranil should be Prime Minister only for a short time from now.

    • 0
      0

      PART TWO
The probability now is “politics to win power” for a long time. It’s just not worth our while getting involved in this – but many of us may be unable to resist being drawn in.
      .
Upto yesterday, the SLFP was all for Parliamentary Elections, especially if they had victory in the Supreme Court. They would have won handsomely, and come back, corrupt as ever. Now, if there is going to be Ranil for a short spell, and then some other leader, the UNP may win. The “minority parties” will retain their parochial support. Given so much disenchantment with “politicians”, the JVP is bound to do well. For all these reasons, there will be little prospect of Ranil retaining the Premiership for long. All except the SLFP, and the gerontocracy, will want early parliamentary elections.
      .
Best would be for Maithripala to retire now; but who will succeed? I’m not wasting time on working it out; let me continue my humdrum existence. Becoming President? It’s now or never for a UNP member. For that very reason, if impeachment of the President requires a two-thirds majority in Parliament, it will not happen. If a simple majority will suffice, it’s a possibility.
      .
To me, one thing seems clear; the people who must be got rid of are those professional politicians who manage to survive in Parliament, although nobody now wants them. S.B. Dissanayake tops that list; but there’s also Dilan, and quite a few others who were with the Rajapakses. The Rajapaksas themselves retain great support, but are the scourge of the country, relying as they do on rousing communal passions. We’ve also recently identified two frogs who jump: Wasantha Senanayake (of all people, given his impeccable background) and Vadivel Suresh (who may lamely say that he has to “look after his people”).

How is this fool going to represent Sri Lanka as head of state with other heads of state when they now know that this guy DUMB as a door knob and does not have the majority support of the elected body or the population.

This fool should should have got the message when no world leaders sent a congratulatory message to his installed puppet within the first week.

In just over one month he has done huge damage to the economy. Sri Lanka currency is raising to the bottom, credit worthiness is downgraded, its winter months in the west which should be a boom for Sri Lanka but this year we are seeing cancellations and not bookings.

Still we don’t know how much damage make believe PM and his cabinet did during this short period. Karuna and Dogclass Devananda woke-up from deep sleep.

Dear Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Parliamentarian Hon Anura Kumara Dissanayake,

RE: JVP Likely To Initiate Impeachment Motion Against Sirisena: Also Pledges To Initiate Investigation Against Coup Offenders

    Thank you

Yes, When robbers, crooks and criminals get caught, they need to be taken before the law and punished, if found guilty, after due process. Otherwise, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka becomes a joke, and need to put stop to any future jokers, like Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa

    Hats off to you, Sir!

    .
I feel must declare that I too now support and think that, at least for the immediate future JVP, perhaps with the addition of some young blood from both UNP and SLFP and even TNA, deserve to be elected to govern the country at the next election in preference to either SLFP or UNP, whenever the next election comes.
    .
Believe me, I am myself surprised that I would even be open to the idea of a JVP leadership because it was not long ago that I was even questioning if they deserved a place in the mainstream politics of the country.
    .
JVP now have less reason to be blindly, steadfastly racial – being racial and divisive is not going to help them because both UNP and SLFP (thanks to DJ immensely) have learnt to milk that cow to the bones!
    .
JVP I expect will be less immune to bribery, as their dependence is hardly a scratch compared to the well endowed SLFP and UNP, with robbed hoarded money that they both will be inclined to grow rather than use up as they get to fight for the next Governance, which in their world is nothing but another opportunity to amass as much as possible.
    .
True that few in JVP, especially at the top leadership, were fully and enthusiastic participants in the only growth sector in the country – the below-the-bench scoops! But they were mostly victims of greed who were manipulated by the well-endowed, and had to settle to support rather than fight the givers, unwilling to forego a bonanza. I feel it will be much easier to calm their aggressive reach for money grab than the eagerness of either the Hambantota 10 percenters or the one-way transacting bankers propping up the Reid Avenue gang!

Now, IF this JVP really means they will move to impeach Sirisena, my attitude towards the JVP, will be better. The only memory I have of these fellows is the chaos they caused in 1971 and 1987.

  • 18

But the problem is if there would be 2/3 out of 225 would be supporting the impeachment.

Ballige puthas led by Rajakashes would support them.and around 27 votes would be lacking to cover the total 150.

No doubt Ballige putha SIRISENA should be removed from his position. At this moment, I feel , people should have voted more JVPrs into the parliament.

Even today, Sirisena has uttreed loudly that RW woudl not not be appointed by him as PM.
That is what those 16-member idiots added to the press this evening.

6 Judges plainly indicated that as per Article 12(1) petitioners’ FR was violated so they declared the gazette notification null and void. One Justice “Sisira de Abrew “ said Article 70(1) violated.

Anura is asking an investigation that is different from impeachment. Impeachment’s immediate effect, if success, New King losing EP seat. Current setup shows impeachment is not possible. TNA has given in repeatedly promises not to follow up on New King. So, minimum they may walk out during the voting. It is doubtful that the full team of UNP members may cooperate for that.

But in an inquiry coming up in the parliament it is possible to inflict serious damage to New King. The 6 justices stayed out describing of the violation (Article 70(1) or any others) may be because to stop any eventual cases stemming out of their verdict or trying to show their verdict as a proof of any perceived , specific violation. This may be a disadvantage in a follow up court case, but a parliamentary investigation or a PM’s Commission can easily overcome this.

The Best Punishment is the one that imposes upon oneself once his/her “WILLFUL ACTIONS” are proved WRONG and caused “IMMENSE HARDSHIPS” to one or many others. In this particular case the “First Citizen” of the country must graciously admit himself that he did a “Willful Act” that put the country and its people to disrepute and caused many hardships. So what is the “PUNISHMENT” he, this President must impose upon himself? Just, RESIGN and APOLOGIZE to the people of the country and never ever RETURN to public life. You, yourself said this many times during the period 26th October to now. So do that and I am certain the PEOPLE of this country are ready to “FORGET and FORGIVE”.

    Anura Kumara Dissanayake

Is this another of your magic act?
In order to impeach the president I gather 2/3 of the house need to agree and sign the resolution. In your case you would not have more than 6 votes/signatures for impeachment of Hopper Sirisena. No SLFP/SLPP member of parliament in his/her right mind would support you. TNA and UNP MPs do not have any obligation to support you either because you tend to be too clever at times.

Since you may not gather support beyond your party circle are you kidding with the impeachment threat? Go have some rest.

I wonder as to why you didn’t make any such move against Dr Mahinda.

      Milton,
The UNP must be following the constitution which says ”The Democratic Socialist Republic of Srilanka shall give the first and foremost place to Buddhism and promote and foster Budddhism Etc” Core value of Buddhism is getting rid of cravings. That is to give. Buddha throughout 550 births gave away everything in his quest for emancipation. He donated his eyes head flesh blood including his wife and children and got rid of all defilements and liberated himself.. If the state is to foster and promote Buddhism state cannot carry weapons let alone killing citizens at war. Tamils are asking for land and police powers. Being a Buddhist state can we refuse.People who refuse to give including Buddhist monks will languish in Samsara for ages.

MS’ best and last trump-card is is to tender his resignation as long as he is not ready to work with RW who has the parliamentary majority without further putting country into political and economic crisis. The highlights of these series of dramas is, him making a king into a joker, judiciary is stronger, and importantly, RW, MS and MR all three prioritized their personal agendas in front of country and people – No one is ready to give up to ease the situation for betterment of the nation.

When the guys like SB, Dilan, Sumathipala type of guys who were kicked out of the Parliament by the voters, came into the Parliament through the “Pinata Seat” tried to kick a democratically elected majority government out, they have to be investigated, punished and their civil rights removed.

So is the President who has to be punished for violating the constitution. Although he violated the constitution and was given so many chances to correct it and did not do it, he has to be impeached and also his civil rights have to be removed so that another future President will think twice before violating the constitution.

Important thing to do is to bring another constitution which should correct the errors and omissions of this constitution and also establish minimum educational qualifications to MPs, Ministers, PM, Leader of the Opposition, Speaker, President, Whips etc. What ever the situation is those MPs and Ministers cross over to the other side should also lose their seats. Its the need of the time to establish and independent Administrative Commission to manager the SL Administrative Services.

      Dear Buddhhist,
      .
I agree with nearly all that you say, and had already posted a two part comment above this before seeing what you have said.
      .
The problem that I see is ensuring that unsuitable candidates are not allowed to contest elections. I’m a retired teacher. You may stipulate “Educational qualifications”, but end up seeing it turn in to a “Wealth Qualification”, or even “an ability to impress people” qualification. Who is going to check these qualifications? Education in Sri Lanka has also got so bad that “Certificates” don’t ensure either knowledge or values. And will these qualifications ensure that these people will act in the best interests of society?
      .
You have named three disgusting legislators who occupy “Pinata seats”. Another conspirator is no longer a “Pinata” M.P. and is one of the most highly educated persons in Sri Lanka. Cultured, too. G.L. Peiris.
      .
I wholeheartedly agree that if an elected representative of the people crosses over, he should face an immediate re-election. I voted for Sirisena; my view is that he “crossed over” when he appointed Rajapaksa Prime Minister. I feel that I have arightto “withdraw” my vote from Sirisena. How to do?
      .
I will await a response from you or others before unnecessarily elaborating. Else, uncomfortable for both you and me.
      .
Corruption is so wide-spread and remains so carefully covered up that you will not realise how easy it is to manipulate and get to having seemingly respectable people cheating the system so as to ensure that dishonesty reigns.

It is a constitutional coup manipulated to be a constitutional issue. The manner in which this issue was dragged sends the message that either Maithiripala Sirisena was trying to take a revenge on Ranil Wickremasinghe or Maithiripala Sirisena had fallen within a trap and unable to come out. Is Maithiripala Sirisena really insane? If so it is dangerous for the country to have such a President. There is also suspicion whether there are any prominent cases against Mahinda Rajapakse or his wife is coming up which may be sensational. Justice should not be delayed. Anxiety of the people (including Thajudeen’s case) should be answered.

    BEWARE – Power Corrupts!
As can be seen by the action(s) of those who were elevated to power after the 26th of October 2018.
    “THIS”-Honourable President – Maithripala Sirisena,
“THIS”-Honourable Prime Minsiter – Mahinda Rajapakse
“DIS”-Honourable Cabinet of Ministers and MP’s aligned with the above mentioned who created mayhem in Parliament and wreaked havoc, holding Sri Lanka to ransom by their greed for power and money,

Wimal Weerawansa was a golden boy of the JVP until he tasted the POWER of position and the taste for filthy lucre.

So new brooms must tested …… the immature are lauding the JVP as the alternate choice for a better Sri Lanka – The JVP have shunned any direct responsibility and refused to take any portfolios.

Every one seems to know that the Political systems in the past have not made Sri Lanka a better place – so it is very easy to stay in the side lines (in Parliament) and complain about everything and every one as the JVP has done up to now. They have articulated the problems very succinctly but cannot offer the solutions? They refuse to take on responsibility – Why?

It is about time they take a portfolio in this future cabinet and show us what they are capable of, in order that we could verify whether they can ” walk their talk”. Let them prove to us that they are not empty vessels making the noise they make.

Weerawansa set a bad example – Let us hope the current lot in the JVP will accept responsibility and educate us on how they would govern given the power.
Let us not jump from one frying pan to another …. nor into a micro wave of grass root rhetoric.

In 2015, Sirisena was elected as the President because he promised to form a ‘Yahapalana’ Government with Ranil as the PM. Although Sirisena was serious about ‘Yahapalanaya’, Ranil was not. Ranil had his own agenda in his mind but deceived the public by pretending to be a champion of ‘Yahapalana’. The paymasters of Regime Change also did not care for ‘Yahapalanaya’. They had their own agenda and wanted to use Ranil who was dancing according to their tune to go ahead with that.
Ranil who promised to eradicate corruption threw ‘Yahapalanaya’ to the dustbin by masterminding the ‘Bond Scam’ with his ‘Royal Gang’. When President told him to get rid of Arjun Mahendran, Ranil went on defending him. President, keeping to his promise to fight against corruption appointed the Commission to investigate ‘Bond Scam’. Ranil and his ‘Royal Gang’ were furious with President for appointing this Commission. Ranil and his ‘Royal Gang’ went ahead with their agenda ignoring the President whom they considered as a ‘Baiya’ who should listen to them because they helped him to come to power. They also ignored SLFP MPs who joined hand with UNP to form a so called ‘National Government’. Having realized the damage done to the country by Ranil and his ‘Royal Gang’, President made two attempts to salvage the ‘Yahapalana’ Government but failed because Karu and Sajith put their ‘Bank Robber’ leader first instead of putting country first. This is the root cause for the crisis this country is facing today.
Because of political games our rotten politicians play, ordinary folks in the country (Demala, Sinhala, Malay, Burger, Vedda) have to suffer.

A minority government should not attempt to make drastic changes to the constitution & economic policies.

When the president’s power to dissolve the parliament has been withdrawn/reduced, the requirement of 2/3 majority should have been reduced to simple majority.

UNP solidarity to protect its credibility lost leader is a shame.
