Keith Noyahr Abduction; Hickory Dickory, Gota In The Dock

In a dramatic turn of events the investigation into the abduction of Keith Noyahr, the Criminal Investigation Department has found that the abductors had made phone calls to Gotabaya Rajapaksa just after the abduction.

Former secretary to the MOD – Gotabaya

Using the newly imported equipment the CID has managed to trace the call log details of the abductors’ and Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Keith Noyahr was abducted and mercilessly assaulted in 2008. He fled the country with his family and out of sheer fear did not even make a statement to the Police. The abductors blindfolded him and carried him to the store house situated within a large land in Dompe. His hands and feet were tied and then strung on to a pole akin to hauling a dead carcass. Keith Noyahr was stripped, his belongings including his wedding ring taken, the abductors continued to assault wanting to know who his informants were. The true journalist that he was, even though bleeding profusely and in immense pain, never did Noyahr betray his sources.

The Dompe land and the house including the store was visited by Major Bulathwatte regularly as he had an intimate relationship with a lady living there. When Keith Noyahr was abducted it was the CEO of The Nation Krishantha Cooray who ran helter skelter to trace him. Krishantha Cooray contacted other Media houses, Embassies, and NGOs, who in turn sprung into action.

Senior DIG Anura Senanayake too was contacted and a team from the Nation including Cooray went along the telephone path which led to Dompe. For some unknown reason this team turned back from Dompe and abandoned the search. Retired DIG Senanayake could answer as to why this was done. CEO Krishantha Cooray then contacted Karu Jayasuriya for help. Help did Karu Jayasuriya. He called Mahinda Rajapaksa !!!! Keith Noyahr was released a few hours later.

When Keith was held in the storehouse in Dompe, the lights were turned off and he was blindfolded. Several hours after continuous assault, he had heard a telephone ring and a voice answer in English. “Yes sir, Yes Sir”. A few minutes later the same voice had approached him and asked him to wash himself and dress up. The tone of the voice of abductors were conciliatory after the telephone call. He was brought back in a circuitous route and released. Wedding ring returned, purse not.

This abduction and assault was never investigated. The common perception was that the abduction was done at the behest of the then Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

One must recall that in 2008 up to the time the war was ended former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Gen Sarath Fonseka were on the same page. Squeezing buddies. It was Gotabaya Rajapaksa who took pole position to safeguard not only the former Army Commander but all the military and allied forces men even when there was mounting evidence of abductions and other criminal acts. Remember who said that Gen Fonseka was the best Army Commander in the World?

Military Intelligence head Hendawitharne and his immediate subordinate Amal Karunatilleke too were in the habit of reporting to the then Secretary of Defence Gotabaya, directly. Telephone records show the trace of reporting from the time Keith Noyahr was abducted to the time he was released and thereafter.

“The CID which renewed investigations into the many murders, abductions and assaults which occurred during the Rajapaksa regime, seem to be drawing first blood. Apart from abductions and disappearances of civilians for extorting large amounts of money, the hunting of journalists who had alternate views to that of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s regime had damaged the image of the island nation.” a well informed source to Colombo Telegraph.

According to the Foreign Ministry sources, increase in tourism and foreign direct investments being of utmost importance this year, success in investigations into murder and abductions of journalists too will be of equal importance to achieve the first requirements mentioned above.

A senior Government official, who did not wish to be named, pointed out that tourists do not visit a country that does not respect the rule of law nor where voice of dissent is stifled. Neither would foreign direct investments pour into a country where accountability is absent. 2018 will be a make or break year for Sri Lanka financially, when a major portion of the huge borrowings of the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime will be up for repayment. “Remember Sri Lanka thus far has not reneged on her foreign debt on due dates. Never.” he said.

“It is laudable that President Sirisena nor Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, has blocked the investigations of the CID. There is a powerful message in their silence. Mahinda Rajapaksa and his coterie in the Joint Opposition has from time to time tried to whip up extremist and racist feelings whenever a military officer was questioned or remanded over a criminal offense. A section of the Buddhist clergy too have been misled by these sentiments. THEY SHOULD READ Major General Kamal Gunaratne‘s book ROAD TO NANDIKADAL ( Pg 55) where the decorated officer writes how ashamed he was of military men resorting to criminal acts. The Major General has indeed made several references to acts of criminality by military men and the need to bring them before the law in order to preserve the good name of the Military and of Officers and Gentlemen. His position is absolutely right but is quite the opposite of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Gotabaya Rajapaksa et al. In the eyes of the Rajapaksa’s the entire military be they deviant or not are War heroes. Why? It is obvious.” a defence analyst told Colombo Telegraph.

“Painstaking detective work resulted in the CID finding out the details of the Noyahr assault. As Major General Kamal Gunaratne said in his book, it would be best if the military shed the rogue elements sooner than later so that the true war heroes could be celebrated and revered. The present Yahapalanaya government of President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe should know that all their grandiose plans for Sri Lanka will come to naught if the patriotism card is used by Mahinda, Gota and others to thwart constitutional reforms and development. The country did believe that there was criminality and corruption during the Rajapaksa era and they must be held accountable. Put away if found guilty. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.

“The Keith Noyahr investigation is but the tip of the iceberg. Await more.” the defence analyst said.

Senasarional links to the top. Fellows remanded for some time but can’t keep in remand for ever. Released on bail. Case is forgotten. What we as voters who threw the goons out of power want to hear the news of a conviction by court of law and a long sentence to atone for the crimes. Nothing short of this is not newsworthy now.

Coming colour is no good for GOTA the most abusive among brutal Rajapakshes.

Srilanka’s KIM JON IL will have to face it sooner than later.

Please gods, may all the forces be with Yahapalanaya to corner these buggers from human association… the harm done by these Rajaakshe men are beyond all levels.

subject to veto by an ex-G.S now at the helm, who has some hidden agenda, whether we like it or not. This is SL politics. It is too
early to say the direction this will take, while the CID may be making
          achievements, by their Police standards.

        Hello Sam,

I voted in favour of your comment but have you not heard about the procedure followed by our judiciary, these
days, which is arrest, charge and discharge for lack of evidence
with Govt. concurrence. This case will also fizzle out like many other FCID cases or any other cases taken against the powerful
politicians because they are birds of the same feather.

Out of the thousands indicted, pls.quote me a case where some
one is counting bars. They have the last laugh . The courts and the judges are there for you and me.

Thanks for your comment Lanka Watch.

I too have lot of problems not being able to as to why the second step is not taken by FCID for thousands of cases which have by now been investigated. .. or the process is still in progress mode.. why it takes that long..
we the ones now with RTI in fully in action should have the right to know all these at least to some extent.
Just adding us with the repeated responses such as ” that will take long for investigators to find out all the bits ” must not be equally valid for all the cases.

It is really sad to see not even a single high profile case has not been finalized within the last two years.
We will have to address this with Mr President if the issues would remain in this mode in the 3 year too. … Enough is enough.

Let them re-offend in villages and towns because they had earned their right to do so. Remember they are the ones who taught the Demelas a lesson they would not forget.

        Yeah, Yeah, Yeah – Ratnajeevan!

Did you not run to Jaffna in 2010 or so, assuring all of us in these columns that you have absolute faith in MR’s regime, and that MR was a “man of his words” (exactly how you said), who would make sure you will get that VC appointment. Following that fiasco, I specifically asked you how you can still consider yourself as of any elevated intellect, when goons like MR and Gota can so easily take you for a ride, literally as well!

Almost all of us knew what MR and Gota were up to – and you stood in our way in trying to expose their duplicity.

Well – not just you, but Rajasingham was the same. He in fact campaigned that the Diaspora should suspend their remittances to friends and family, and instead divert them to Gota for the marvelous way he was kindly and altruistically helping out Tamils in the North!

Some rats left the boat rather hurriedly, others lingered on but out of sight hoping for some daylight, that never came!

I don’t think that either Srisena or Ranil have the guts to charge any of the Rajapakse family though they are responsible for 95% of the crimes and corruption during their brutal jungle rule between 2006 and 2015.

what are the crimes against minority? Like killing that fat terrorist coward in Nandikadal? You tamils waged a war and simply suffered the consequences of the war. And you cant point at others when this is of your own making.

The minorities in NE have an administration and a normal life with education and economy going on thanks to MR, GR and Sinhalese…

Every one knows who killed Lasantha, Ekneheliyagoda, Thajudeen and who the GOD FATHER was of the white van culture.

There is no worst family in the world with such criminal records of MURDER AND CORRUPTION, including the BIG FATHER THE APPACHI, BAPPA THE GOAT, ANOTHER BAPPA THE ACE COMMISSION BAPPA, THE TWO SONS THE NOTORIOUS FRAUDSTERS WITH MURDER RECORD TOO. Not to mention, the SHIRANTHI AMMA of GOLD FAME, THE BIL OF SRI LANKAN FAME, UDAYANGA THE FUGITIVE and the list goes on and on.

What more, there is an idiotic JOINT OPPOSITION FOOLS, who want to bring this most MURDEROUS AND CORRUPT FAMILY Sri Lanka has ever produced, to power again.

These idiot’s idiocy has no limit, God save our beautiful Sri Lanka from these murderers and put them in Welikade for all their crimes against innocent men of our country and plundering her wealth with impunity.

If MY3 stands on the way of Justice, he too will be doomed like the MURDERERS.

Rope around the neck of Gotabaya is being tightened with the time.

The numerous crimes the brutal thugs have perpectrated will never allow them peace. THese men are born rascals.

Even among the saffron robe wearing monks, if theere are ones that behave not respecting the robe and the place given to it by buddhists, should be brought before the laws.
That you will see, with law and order turns out to be rigorous in the days to come.
We are indepted to soldiers for their brave acts, but in the same time, we are also appalled by the criminals acts of some. I have no doubt, also considering what and how some soldiers behaved in the post war scenarios int he north.. they should all be punished by lanken laws… These men hidden in army are crimnals.. they just tarnish the image of srilanken army.

Simon what about the crimes committed by the IPKF? Are they too not deserve the same punishment as for the SL military?

Those so called defense analysts then were allegedly bribing army officers to get information and they publish them as if they investigated and found them. And they always published only army information and never LTTE information.

No matter anyone who has been a citizen .. but got hurt by previous regime or this govt shoudl be subjected to investigations.
That is what we the peace loving folks expect from the current govt.
We have sent Gadafi style men home.
We have sent idiots of former man home. However with some in the new govt too, if they stand on the way.. not allowing investigations to be held, they too should be subejected to investigations.

Even men that make every abusive act abusing today press freedom too should be subjected to rigorous punish, ments.

Gone should be the days we were ruled by idiots.

It seems another RW sucker is appointed in CID. The mentioned defence analyst should read Kamal Gunaratne’s book again and learn how CBK and RW destroyed the security apparatus of the country. The people in SL need justice for that by punishing RW, CBK and the whole bundle of traitors with them.

What is most hilarious here is CID is working to punish so called wrong doers because foreign tourists want it. What a pathetic slave mentality has engulfed this country with yahapalana. sick

Sach, the “pathetic slave mentality” that you mention is what YOU have towards the Rajapakse gang, judging from your consistent defense of their innumerable felonies.

It was a war against the terrorists that hid behind the civilans. When the rebels broke the conventions then one expect a bit of execess.Even the Western forces broke down and resorted to unprofessional methods like urinating on the dead bodies etc. Feelings run high and to prevent this situations we must strive for situation where there will not be a conflict. One can’t solve any problem with arms against a government of the land.

This is a yet another ploy of yahapalanaya regime to prevent GOTA coming to politics.CT journalists especially from minority communities who hate GOTA may be fabricators of this article. as you know GOTA was the defense secretary upto 8th January 2015. if he wanted to get any information from this particular journalist he could have done it official way.PTA still in operation and the other preventive apparatus of terrorism was in operation too.then regime could have arrested him under those acts or regulations and could have done same thing what so called abductors did in a police or army station. guantanamo bay is in operation under all US presidents so far in painting picture that he was arrested on the suspicions of terrorist activities taken place in colombo and suburb. as such this is yet another fabrication of big lie of journalists mentioned above.they all want to prevent GOTA coming to politics.their target may be 2020 presidential election.

Ranjith, as one who is coming from a sorcery background, I really dont think you would ever grasp the gravity of the harm Rajakashes have done to this nation.
Agree with his admant nature in terms of succeeding the relay relay race of the 30y ear old civil war, however, it was Rajapakshe biased media fooled the nation calling it – as unique talent of RajapAKSHE to have eleminated LTTE terror. Anyways, those who knows it well, can get it easily, the cake was eaten by the men, so greedily, not respecting any common views- leaving even War won army leader..sending and putting him on a jail for some revenges… but all that boomerang on them by today. Much more to be revealed, come up … day by day..

Anyway you the ilk that have been brain wahsed by Dherana Nalika for the last few years – will take few more years to grasph it ..
This particular Dherana is a media institution started with the black money (50 million of Rajapakshe blackmoney) under the name of Deeleep jayaweera…. you guys will question yourself, why you guys all about Rajanos.. in that sender even if the entire country woudl have been burnt down… dherana surprisingly works with buddhism also to mislead the nation, pretending that they are very unbiased… please give this a try you each.. then you can get it easily.

Gota the killer and white van goon is beginning to see his dream of becoming Sri Lanka’s president is fading away. Gon Sira has been bribed by Gota with large sums of fortunes Gota has stolen through MIG Deals, floating armoury, and other defence procurements during his brother MARA’s regime. Why can’t Ranil direct law enforcement to arrest Gota and put him behind bars like Buruwansa. Shame on Yahapalanaya for cheating over 6 million people who elected it to the parliament of fools.

This report lacks some of the vital information revealed in Courts by the CID. One is in regard to the “Army Safe House” in Gampaha. This house has been rented by the first accused Major Bulawatta using his personal ID and related documents. Next were the telephone calls taken from there to various higher ups in the Army and the VIPs. The CID has already elicited information using the latest high tech equipment newly acquired. The team of lawyers viz. Gammanpila, Nalinda Indatissa, Misbah were silent on hearing this revelations and held a meeting with a VIP to decide the course of action to be followed. As I said in another comment relating to this subject, the JO will meet to decide to bring in the “Protest Rally” and demand the release of “Ranaviruwo” (War Heroes). It would be interesting to watch how the two VVIP viz President and Prime Minister are going to act in regard to the alleged involvement of the then VIP in this abduction and torture case. Most probably the CID will be silenced unless the Courts decide to follow up on those information already submitted. Let us wait and see.

Past sins have come to haunt Gotabhaya. During the dispensation of Rajapaksas there were murders, white vans kidnappings for ransom, enforced disappearances etc. A total of 29 media personnel (majority Tamil) were murdered or disappeared between November 2005 and January 8, 2015. The perpetrators of heinous crimes got away without punishment. The worst criminal was Gotabhaya who ranted and raved at the BBC correspondent Stephen Sackur in June 2010 when he interviewed Gotabhaya in connection with the murder of Lasantha Wickrematunga. Gotabaya Rajapaksa directly centralised and supervised all security and intelligence operations through out the island. He had more than one of command packed with cronies and loyalists, bypassing the normal organisational structures It is through this group that Gotabhaya carried out killing of editors, critics etc. None of these murders would have taken place without the knowledge of Gotabhaya and Mahinda Rajapaksa. President Sirisena should stop parroting he will not send his war heroes to electric chair or gallows. At least he should put on trial those who are suspected of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. There are rules and UN conventions that should be followed in conducting wars. Move than 100 LTTE cadres disappeared after surrendering to the army on 18th May, 2009 at Vadduvaakal. No one knows what happened to them thereafter. Only one person knows their fate. It is Gotabhaya and none else. Should not he and his accomplices put on trial for war crimes? Why is president afraid to do so? Incidentally Sirisena was the acting defence minister during the last two weeks before the war ended.

The worst criminal was Gotabhaya who ranted and raved at the BBC correspondent Stephen Sackur in June 2010 when he interviewed Gotabhaya in connection with the murder of Lasantha.
During Rajapaksa’s rule Gotabhaya was virtually the Minister for Defence. He was the real power behind the throne although holding supposedly an innocuous civilian post. Politics is taboo to civil servants but Gotabhaya is a notable exception. He acted like a super politician.
Gotabhaya directly centralised and supervised all security and intelligence operations through out the island. He had more than one command packed with cronies and loyalists, bypassing the normal organisational structures. It is through this group that Gotabhaya carried out killing of editors, critics etc. These murders would have taken place without the knowledge of Gotabhaya and Mahinda Rajapaksa. President Sirisena should stop parroting he will not send his war heroes to electric chair or gallows. At least he should put on trial those who are suspected of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. There are UN conventions that should be followed in conducting wars.

I think people are prematurely celebrating. There is a long way to go to bring Gota and other criminals to justice.

Karu Jayasuriya also needs to make clear what he knows. If a phone call to Mahinda Rajapaksa can get such victims released, it says a lot about what kind of mafia leader the ex-president was, but it also reveals how those initiating the calls are protecting something evil by their silence.

KJ left the UNP to support MR before returning disillusioned. Sirisena was deputy defense minister under MR. Ranil Wickremasinghe had some kind of a deal with MR and Gota on the day power changed 2 years back. Unless all of them are forced to come clean, there won’t be real justice to the victims, including Keith Noyahr.

No more cleansing is needed for MS, RW and KJ, if they did not act that way, they too would have been bumped off then, wheels of judiciary are rolling now, its all there to see, patient is the key here, my gut feel is MS and RW joint alliance would work it out this time for justice to be brought into the kith and kin of not only Keith Noyahr, Lasantha, Eknaligoda, Tajudeen and all others who did not strike the limelight, but also to Upali Tennakoon, and to Frederika Janz, a woman who fled the country with two kids in sheer fear and now living in remote outskirts of US, no job, she’s no husband, only the dole handed out to her, justice will most certainly happen to them, that’s my fervent wish.

When the case against Gota regarding corruption related to purchase of Mig fighter planes was to be heard, the judge ordered the eviction of journalists who were present in court, without giving any reason.
So far, he has not been reported to have been convicted, in that case.

This may be the very first instance of eviction of journalists from a court of law.

Thus, Gota was, and still now may be, under the “protection” of the judiciary.
Hence, is it not optimistic to believe that a case against him with regard to arrest and assault of Keith Noyahr will proceed with full judicial overview/acceptance by courts?
Gota appears to have a “hold” on judicial procedures.

Empowered judge and executioner by God or Kangaroo Court. Powerful of all time.
Mates Karupillai Sitha should have their shares. All the security members past and presents will undergo post traumatic syndrome for their deeds and failed to do deeds. So in another 5 yrs SL will have to begin to deal with PTS cases eventually accumulate to over 2 million cases.

Gota has created a new NGO called ‘widwath maga’. He is pouring billions he pilfered to build this forum. It is full of his former cathchers like Nalaka Godahewa, Dr Meegaswatte, Sarath Weerasekera etc. I say that ‘Widwath Maga’ is full of corruptors, thugs and hooligans

Arrange for Gota to be abducted in a white van in broad daylight, in full view of a big crowd and then make him disappear. That would be real justice. If I was in power that is what I would have done 2 years ago. These crooks should thank God that I am not in power and will never be. I am just a simply supported Thiruvathavoorar.

Oh yeah! That would perhaps be two bad birds with one stone. MR would have a heart attack and that would be that.

    Just dreaming!

Even the proverbial horse shoe nail contributed for winning the war. These little things contributed to knock off LTTE finally. To me all these people are war heroes.

I do not understand why Dr.DJ is observing silence when his revered war hero and fellow smart patriot GoRa is exposed.

DJ as the son of Mervin de Silva has the moral duty to comment or write an analysis on ” Karu J – Mhinda R telephone conversation. I mean moral dutynot creative journalistic duty or gimmick.

Non PhD – Because DJ is one of those immoral false prophets who only comment only when the subject suits their agendas.

Criticizing the MR gang will not suit his selfish purpose!
