The emergence of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD) and his coalition government marked a historic turning point in Sri Lankan politics. However, the transformational promise of this administration has not been welcomed by all. A sustained, virulent and well-funded campaign, coordinated by remnants of the old guard, including elements of the United National Party, the SLPP (Pohottuwa) and their media affiliates appears intent on discrediting every initiative undertaken by the new government. These efforts, largely propagated through social media, are saturated with misinformation and outright falsehoods.
At the heart of this campaign lies a familiar strategy: ridicule, delegitimise, and destabilise. With media outlets largely controlled by politically vested interests, narratives are shaped not by evidence but by agenda. These media conglomerates, often helmed by politicians desperate to regain relevance, exploit the echo chambers of Facebook, TikTok and WhatsApp. Posts go viral not on the basis of veracity but via emotional manipulation, memes and manufactured outrage.
The mission of these ‘keyboard canines’ is clear: ridicule all government initiatives, undermine its leaders, sow confusion among the public and manipulate perception through exaggeration, fabrication and deception. This relentless mud-slinging campaign is just one front in a broader, multi-pronged assault against the government.
One tactic has been to manufacture dissent within the governing alliance, particularly targeting the relationship between the JVP and other coalition partners. Fabricated stories, such as those alleging secret meetings between JVP MPs, UNP’s Sagala Ratnayake and other UNP members, are strategically deployed to sow mistrust. Even clarifications, such as those made by Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe following a statement by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya regarding Rohitha Rajapaksa’s satellite communication project, are twisted to imply internal instability.
Also troubling is the re-emergence of superstition as a political tool. Whispers of black magic, reminiscent of the dark electoral theatre surrounding previous Rajapaksa regimes, have resurfaced. From roasting effigies of opponents to the alleged use of elephant parts in occult rituals, the absurd has again been invoked as plausible, revealing a desperation among some actors who fear the erosion of their influence. That such narratives still find traction reveals the psychological residue of decades of fear-based politics.
Why is there such opposition to a government that for all intents and purposes is moving in the right direction? After all, our past is a litany of grievances, a multitude of sins perpetrated upon a people in the name of governance. Today we see no state sponsored crimes, corruption nor cronyism. No bond scams that contribute to bankruptcy, no sugar tax scandals resulting in a loss of 16 billion in state revenue, no irregular tender awards, no backroom deals, no eye-watering commissions solicited – nay demanded – from investors. There are no sinister white vans roaming the streets kidnapping voices of dissent, no journalists disappearing or being murdered on the high streets. There is no state-sponsored stoking of racial or religious tensions, no imprisonment of political “enemies,” no transferring of independent, honourable police officers. There is no interference in the police or judiciary – gone are the days when politicians sat in OIC chairs barking orders. Nor are there attempts to impeach distinguished Chief Justices or belittle Supreme Court rulings. We hear of no foreign junkets for friends and family squandering billions in taxpayer money, no redirecting of airplanes on personal whims or to transport pets. And certainly no ego-driven, billion-dollar white elephant projects that continue to drain the treasury through endless repayments.
We are also hard put to spot errant sons riding roughshod in their ill-gotten racing cars paying scant regard to the sacred precincts or the safety of other road users. Presidential or ministerial brats are not turning nightclubs into their personal fiefdoms of gun-toting thuggery. There are no chain-snatchers, drug lords or murderers represented in the 159 government members of parliament. So, on the face of it all, things are indeed quite squeaky clean. Something we never dared hope would eventuate in our lifetimes.
Yet, opposition persists. Some grievances are understandable. The high cost of living and spikes in violent crime have caused concern. But one does not have to be rocket scientist Chichee to know these are not the sole motivators behind the attacks.
At the heart of the current backlash lies a powerful and predictable driver: fear. Those complicit in past crimes, ranging from former ministers to senior bureaucrats are now under increasing scrutiny. Many are reportedly in hiding, some frantically seeking safe passage abroad. For them, political survival hinges on destabilising a government that is, for the first time in decades, making good on its election promises and actively pursuing justice. The resurgence of law enforcement and anti-corruption investigations poses a direct threat to their freedom and fortunes.
For the first time in decades, the state machinery is not being leveraged for private gain. That, in itself, is revolutionary. When public office is no longer a path to personal enrichment, those who profited from the old system see no place for themselves in the new.
Another distinct faction fuelling the opposition consists of the political cronies, opportunists, and dealmakers who once thrived under corrupt administrations. Much like parasites fattened by their hosts, these individuals, now cut off from access to power and patronage, have found themselves politically orphaned. With no chance of reclaiming their former privileges, they too have joined the chorus of detractors.
A third group comprises the die-hard loyalists of traditional political parties; individuals whose devotion often borders on the fanatical. While some among them did support President AKD and his coalition in the last election, many remain impervious to evidence or reason. Conditioned over decades to “see no evil, hear no evil,” they persist in their blind allegiance, even in the face of overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing by their preferred leaders. Even as factions of Donald Trump’s MAGA movement are beginning to confront inconvenient truths, these Sri Lankan loyalists remain trapped in a collective cognitive inertia. They reject critical thinking in favour of tribal loyalty, unable or unwilling to evaluate leadership based on principle rather than personality.
Then there are those who have long harboured deep-seated animosity toward the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the dominant force within the current coalition. Their scepticism is often rooted in personal or generational trauma stemming from the violent uprisings of 1971 and 1988–‘90. Many suffered grievous losses, either directly at the hands of insurgents or amid the broader chaos of the era. These memories, valid and painful, are often recalled without equal acknowledgement of the brutality perpetrated by state-backed paramilitary groups such as the Black Cats and Praa. What is forgotten or deliberately omitted in this narrative is the political context: the JVP was driven underground for political expedience, denied space for peaceful dissent, and forced into militancy. The crimes of that era were shared by both the state and its challengers.
For others, what truly offends is the inversion of a long-standing class and cultural hierarchy. For decades, Sri Lanka was governed by an English-speaking elite whose proximity to colonial legacy conferred a certain cultural capital. The emergence of a leader from rural Thambuththegama tucked away in the ancient capital of Anuradhapura, speaking in unvarnished Sinhala and articulating the aspirations of ordinary citizens, is perceived by some as a threat not merely to political power, but to a deeply entrenched social order. In their eyes, a bunch of Sinhala-prattling yakko rabble rousers shaping the direction of national life borders on sacrilege. There is outrage, and a stubborn refusal to accept the new status quo: that the AKDs of the world, once expected to meekly follow their fathers into the paddy fields, are now standing shoulder to shoulder with global leaders. Surely, there is something amiss with this picture? isn’t it only silver-spoon-weaned nobility that must buttonhole King Charles with contrived nonchalance or swap yarns and moda-joke with Elon Musk over a cup of Ceylon tea? Tut-tut, the sheer audacity of the village yokel to sit in high office, shake the hand of world leaders and oversee a perahera of crooks and criminals to Welikada.
This latent classism often reveals itself through trivial criticisms; be it the wrong tie, a casual jacket, a misused English phrase or even the President’s height. Such superficial jabs betray not only the absence of substantive critique, but also the underlying insecurities of the critics themselves. When genuine wrongdoing is lacking, detractors resort to petty mockery. These attacks serve as clear evidence that, in the absence of legitimate faults, traits and trivialities are targeted in place of substance.
One is reminded of a curious YouTube video that circulated many years ago. In it, an elderly and retired school teacher who bases his future predictions on mathematics, spoke of the rise of an unlikely president – someone from Anuradhapura, a lawyer, who had ruled in past lives as Kings Parakramabahu and Walagamba. He prophesied that this leader would gain power in 2024, preside over Sri Lanka for many years and command global admiration.
When AKD won the election in 2024, I couldn’t help but recall that prophecy. While not everything he predicted was accurate, I hope that President AKD will enjoy a long and impactful tenure. In my humble opinion, only a leader with a clear vision, free from personal ambition and self-interest, can truly heal Sri Lanka’s deep wounds and guide our motherland toward a future of prosperity, justice and decency.
And as the government continues its work, it is fair to ask: If not AKD, who? If not this administration, what alternative? Who among our political class remains untainted by scandal? Who has shown a consistent commitment to justice, equity and nation-building?
The answer, at least for now, appears clear.
And to those who continue to nitpick over jackets, diction, or stature – perhaps it is time to recognise that leadership is not measured in inches or wardrobe choices. It is measured in courage, integrity and results. In all those respects, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stands taller than most.

“And to those who continue to nitpick over jackets, diction, or stature” etc.
There is serious criticism transcending such trivia. It is about failure to keep promises and even going back on them.
Flippant dismissal of all criticism by drawing attention to trivial comment will not help the government.

Hello SJ,
I have been running (in the car) around the area trying to find Gas for my Sister in Law’s Tea Shop to no avail. No-one has any, they all say heta. is this a harbinger of times to come? Is Petrol and Diesel next?
Despite an increase in Tourism we don’t see any change in the Economy up here in බැද්දේගම||Baddegama (actually Weligala, but it’s very similar to Leonard Wolfe’s book).

The leaders of the Philippines plundered the country, but after ten or so years, one of their grandsons was chosen to lead it.
Therefore, the problem of stupidity is not limited to “South Asia”; it also exists in some “South East Asian countries.” These days, there are a lot of Sri Lankan videos that cover Namal being godded by rural pigs dressed as humans, and the trend is once again to make Namal Baby the leader. How can anyone overlook the damage the Rajapakshes are causing to this country?

Hello HT,
I was being “metaphorical”, I recognise some of Leonard Woolfe’s characters from the book as similar to some of my neighbours and relations, and yes I live between Gampola and Gelioya up in the hills. My Sister in Law has a Tea Shop so I meet quite a few people from various parts of Sri Lanka and other Countries. You can still see the world of Baddegama in Rural parts here. One of my Brothers in Law has a Rice Farm and it’s like going back more than a Century. We visit Nuwara Eliya on occasions to buy Vegetable for my Wife’s Grocery Shop. I like talking to the Dealers and getting an insight into how Business is done. Baddegama was similar despite the time difference.

Most good people in Sri Lanka will support what has been said in this article. There has been changed. Apart from the changes identified, a major change I see as a Tamil is the reduction in ethnic animosity which had been kept on the boil by the past politicians to profit themselves. Mercifully, the Buddhist priests also have not come onto the streets to support these chauvinists realising that these do not sell any more. The youth realise that they have been led astray by the Sinhala only policy. The Bandaranaikes, the Borulugoda Buruwas, the Premadasas and the Rajapakses all sent their idiot progeny abroad keeping the poor in their place by denying them access to education in modern technology and science. The young realise this. The change will come once waters have been test out. Support for AKD will remain as long as he is seen to be delivering on the promise of change he made.

What you say may be correct, however, there are many Sinhalese public servants and members of the armed forces and police, who had been taught to fight the LTTE and the Tamils based on safeguarding Sinhalese Buddhism, who still extremely loyal to the previous racist Sinhalese regimes, especially the Rajapakses, especially from the department of Archeology, Mahaveli and forestry, and are still trying discriminate, marginalise, sabotage and grab land from the Tamils and even use violence and force, to sabotage the current regime and remember that the current regime consists of many members of the JVP, which has a history of being very pro Sinhalese and anti Tamil. Having a large number of Sinhalese-only armed forces and troops in Tamil areas, who had been trained to fight Tamils based on ethnicity and not retrained to think or behave otherwise is not going to help and so are all these Sinhalese public servants, most of them racist to the core and largely recruited from supporters of previous regimes and governments, who had the same ideology.

Tamil speaking nationalities physically survived the “the Sinhala only policy” unscathed.
Interesting that you have spared the 17 years of Dharmishta rule and the UNP regime that waged war on the Tamil people.
The FP was in government from 1965 to 68 as a partner of the UNP with Sinhala Only as its policy.
The tar brush campaign preceding the 1958 violence one may link to language. But the violence unleashed since 1977 had little to do with language.
*
Let us not glibly repeat cliches.
/
Jaffna Man / August 15, 2025
These are glib cliches. The FP briefly partnered with the UNP to accomplish some of its objects but left the coalition upon realizing that the UNP had no intention of keeping its promises. It never accepted Sinhalese only.
/
SJ / August 15, 2025
My comment was about the linking of all communal riots with Sinhala Only. I guess that you have no objection to my main observation.
*
But you go on to say briefly partnered? Briefly, my foot!
It was in tandem with the UNP through the 1970s, so much so that the UNP MP Devanayagam attended sessions of the Tamil United Front, the forerunner to the TULF, with a nod from JRJ.
In 1977, FP personalities canvassed for the UNP, not just out of spite for the SLFP.
Thondaman in the wake of the 1983 violence came out with how JRJ took the TULF for a ride.
*
Agree that “the UNP had no intention of keeping its promises”. Did not the leaders of the FP/TULF not know it when they took the UNP into trust in 1965, 1977, and even after to be taken for a ride with the connivance of AJ Wilson to accept the DDCs?
Where had the TULF (later the late TNA and now back to FP) taken the Tamils of N&E?

“Anura Kumara Dissanayake stands taller than most,” but not in the eyes of:
(1) “…those who have harbored deep-seated animosity towards JVP” (2) “Long-standing elite class or cultural hierarchy” (3) ” English speaking elite class”
Well explained and presented comprehensively. Thank you, Raine
The emergence of ‘NPP’, no doubt a thorn in the eye of the above ‘Elite’ class that plundered the resources of the country to enjoy a luxurious life for themselves, kith and kin, and their scumbugs who are offered opportunities to milk the cow.
No wonder the above ‘Elite’ who have been pushed out of power and lost all that they have enjoyed at the expense of the people will forget their differences and form an ‘Alliance’ to regain all that they lost. This is happening right now. Prof. G.L.Peiris has been entrusted with the ‘JOB’. He has already summoned all who are opposing the NPP to a meeting to form that ‘Alliance’.
Interesting to identify the individuals attending this meeting and who will take the reins in the ‘Alliance’. It would be ‘Nai Mugati in one floating raft’.Wait to hear the ‘Names’!

RaineW is right that there is a difference in the current administration. But there is no need to go over the top with unnecessary flattery.
Apart from the locking up various crooks, has there been any significant impact on living standards? What was the need to cave in to the car importers? Why have the purer-than-driven-snow NPP MPs now decided that Maruti cars aren’t good enough for them? Are they human after all?
Also let us remember that being incompetent is as bad as being corrupt. We can’t have the PM and her cabinet arguing over whether non-existent Satellites can bring in 20 billion a year. That’s nothing to do with class, tie-wearing, or English diction.
I don’t like being personal, but what exactly has AKD done about the author’s own late ex-husband Lasantha to deserve such fulsome praise?

Some of us like to think that the JVP and NPP comprise selfless idealists.
I remember two generations of idealist left politicians who faded out by the 1970s. Most Old Left leaders were not corrupt in financial matters. But politically they had degraded after they sold out to the SLFP.
The JVP is politically dishonest. AKD is a face of political cleanliness it put up for the polls. Blemishes are beginning to show. Not may, but they are there.

No OC, I stand by my memory. Yes, they clearly said they wouldn’t use luxury Beemer’s or Mercs but never promised they would use Maruti’s. JVP was resolutely anti-Indian then and it would look quite hypocritical if they did. I very well remember these two points they made at election platforms:
–
1. If elected, all their MPs would not take salaries, which will go to a common pool. Each MP will be given an allowance to meet their personal expenses. I did not like JVP at that time, so I didn’t have anyone to verify it but one of my closer colleagues had and told me that was exactly what they did. Even their arch-rival at that time – the UNP, did never deny that.
–
2. That they would use car permits to buy diesel double cabs. That was exactly what they did too and as I remember it was a cheaper Mitsi model, not expensive Hilux’s. However, there was a big uproar that JVP sold their car permits to buy the double cabs. I don’t think it was a good precedence but compared to what all other rogue Presidents, Ministers and MPs did those days, it was an iota. All in all, they did not promise, buy or use any Maruti’s.

Re- the need to use vehicles by MPs for work, I do not have any objections. My objections are – MPs given permits to sell, MPs importing luxury vehicles duty free, MPs using multiple vehicles, MPs misusing vehicles, Their kith n kin using vehicles, or MPs using unlimited fuel. A car pool is the best to serve their vehicle needs, plus using departmental vehicles as per the requirements. As a bankrupted country we cannot afford to do what even OECD countries do not dare to do!

I never sided with their anti-Indian stance, then or now. I am a firm believer of ditching ancient hostilities and heading towards economic prosperity. A strong friendships with India is vital for our socio-economic benefit, particularly in economic co-operation. The trick is, to find out what they want to buy from us. India can produce almost any of what we produce so one main area is getting their sub-contracts such as in IT industry. One thing quite feasible area is tourism – something unique we can offer.

As party principles, they opposed Indianization, but AKD went above and beyond by signing and completing confidential bilateral agreements with Indians that the parliament was unaware of until today.
Even though VIJITHA HERATH (incumbent FM) strongly disagreed with former Minister Diana Gamage, they have agreed to support the cultivation of KANSA as a means of generating high income, which is hilarious.
And as if he were born yesterday, the person who protested louder than anyone else opposing the opening of casino-equipped “Dreams of the CITY Hotels in Colombo lately” also participated in the opening of these establishments. Can you imagine the greater change that MP-AKD and President AKD have undergone?

OC – “But there is no need to go over the top with unnecessary flattwey”. You are spot on. This ‘unnecessary flattery’ is a trap that many of our politicians fall into. When in power, they are blind folded with this ‘flattery’ and never come out of the mud pit they have been pushed into. Recently, Minister Lal Kantha gave a good ‘Kane Shot’ (slap on the face) to one of his senior bureaucrats when he said in a speech, ‘this project is initiated on ‘SANKALPAYA” (Thinking) of this Minister’. Lal Kantha in his address, said, referring to the word ‘Sankalpaya’ – “Now please refrain from now onwards this type of references. I am only doing what the people want.” The audience gave a huge applause. My hats off to Lal Kantha!
/
Douglas / August 14, 2025
OC: I forgot to say something about that ‘Maruti”. I am against the withdrawal of a vehicle for MPs. Also, NPP’s decision to credit their MPs’ salaries to the party fund.
Both of these steps provide a ladder to hawkish moneyed ( both big and medium) yokos to ‘lure’ politicians to net them in their corrupt deals. All MPs must be provided with a vehicle plus a reasonable petrol allowance and their salaries. If needed, a certain ‘percentage’ of their salaries could be taken voluntarily to the credit of the party funds. Let the MPs have a decent but honest life.

You are spending money extracted as taxes from every consumer item the struggling peasants pay for their rice, flour, salt, medicine and such! Not only from the income taxes of the rich! Even the richest countries don’t do that, in top OECD countries, MPs only have access to pool vehicles occasionally or use other public transportation options for official duties. So why a damned, bankrupt country do it??

Readers,
.
I’ve been thinking a lot about why some of us can’t understand why people in our country fall prey to crooked politicians, and I’ve learned a lot about the way people think and their leaders.
Society is divided into several groups, with rural people across the country holding the most power among voters.
Kannangara-fraction, which emerged after Sinhala became the primary medium of instruction in schools, primarily fertilizes rural societal fragments. Dr. Cristopher William Wijekoon Kannangara (Sinhala ආචාර්ය ක්රිස්ටෝෆර් විලියම් විජේකෝන් කන්නන්ගර; 18 October 1894 – 23 September 1969) was a Sri Lankan Lawyer and a politician. He rose up the ranks of Sri Lanka’s movement for independence in the early part of the 20th century.
–
The majority of those who support the Kannangara faction have proven to be enemies of the Colombo elite. This is evident from some graduates’ support for radical groups. In the elections, these fractions support either the Rajapakshes-led SLPP or the JVP-led NPP.

How do you know the govt is doing nothing? For example if Gotabaya is to be charged the govt needs time to build a watertight case. As I recall little is known of the actual people who pulled the trigger. There is only circumstantial evidence on who ordered it. I believe that evidence but we need more than that to file charges, and with Shani back in play that will be soon. Indeed bringing him back is a big step by the government.

The best way to demonstrate this is to compare their election pledges or sharp provacations with what they have accomplished over the past ten months.

“In all those respects, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stands taller than most.”
It is true that President Dissanayake much taller than the previous Presidents RW, Gota, Mahinda, Sirisena, Chandrika, Premadasa and JRJ. It looks he is afraid to touch his hands on the most important factor that is the barrier for the future of this country.

Give AKD some time.

Mr SJ,
.
Given the way he has been continuing “the same lies” or shielding his cabinet ministers from further deception, should a man whose scathing provacations were beyond all reasonable limits be granted more time?
–
There isn’t a single car/van in SL that costs more than one or two million USD, but AKD repeatedly and loudly asserted that MaRa’s car is that expensive. I recently checked ChatGPT and discovered that even Pope’s fully armoured vehicle costs less than 0.5 million USD. Can you believe that?

This AKD being a diabolical liar just like the previous ones, Mother Lanka has no hope for the future.
He must tell the TRUTH to the nation about his links with RW.
The signing of the SECRET agreement with India and NOT revealing it to the public amply testifies to his DISHONESTY.
The Aragalaya expected all 225 plus one to be eliminated from the political landscape but a few CUNNING dishonest remained to form government.
These clips below should throw more light to the GULLIBLE voters in Sri Lanka who have a very slavish mentality. Getting fooled left right and center over and over again!!

Brilliant stuff Raine ,
Please publish this article in Sinhalese and Tamil language to some misguided people to see.
Why people do not like this goverment
Mainstream media – there publication are based on making hero out of gutter politicians like Mahinda, Namal, Mervin and others are not valid now and they can’t influence the government any more.
Corrupt politician- they have fear of being punished for their past crime and not being able to enjoy privileges in the expense of public money.
Bureaucrats – unable to deal with politicians and corrupt businessmen to get bribes
Government servants- not liking accept their jobs as service feeling missing of authority on people asking for service. Also not being able to get bribe for favors.
Uneducated general public- this is the main fraction who are blinded by (kapuwath Kola or nil ) mentality and jealousy of politicians from there own class gaining power taking country to better direction.
You sail all these thing beautifully.
Thank you

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
And you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’
–
Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
THE CHANCE WON’T COME AGAIN
And don’t speak too soon
For the wheel’s still in spin
And there’s no tellin’ who
That it’s namin’
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin’
–
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin’
Will soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’
–
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one
If you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’

Hello Nimal,
This reminds me of Dylan singing the song in the much underrated film “The Wandererers”.
“The Times They Are A-Changin'” and Barry McGuire’s “Eve of Destruction” were two of our favourites from 64/65.
Our parents hated the last verse of The Times… especially –
“Your sons and your daughters

Hello Nimal,
Scotland like most Countries, has good and bad places and people. I like Edinburgh and Glasgow equally although Edinburgh is more to the liking of Tourists and other visitors. The Highlands and the Western Isles have some of the most spectacular scenery. Glasgow (and other cities like Liverpool) had a fair amount of Irish Migration from the 1840’s Famines. I think this explains the similarity in the Glaswegian and Liverpudlian sense of humour (and the religious divide). My Father took us on a Camping Trip down the Great Glen Lochs (beware of the Midges) in the mid 60s. Again the scenery is tremendous; I even swam in Loch Ness (sorry no Monster to be seen) but the water visibility is not good.
Apart from that I hope your son or daughter (you don’t say which) was well treated and had a good time.
Best regards

AKD has been caught prevaricating MANY times. You only have to view his statements before the election and after.
I’m surprised how people can trust him anymore? The fact that the same status quo is maintained by him.
How come Parinda Ranasinghe as AG, Weerasinge(was deputy to Mahendran) head of Central Bank and Nonis is in charge of customs still?
Many of their misgivings have been brought to light NOT by the corrupt MSM but via social media. Also they were appointments of the previous regime.
No point going on, question AKD’s link with RW and many nefarious characters of the previous regime!
All these SELECTIVE arrest and RELEASE are just a diversion to HOODWINK the nation when all the BIG SHARKS are still at large.
Who is fooling whom??
That says it all!!

The p eople of Sri Lank are fully aware that the P resent administration
under President Anura Kumare DissaNayake has not engaged in bribery, favoritism, or political killings, unlike certain parties of the past whose history speaks for itself. This government’s actions are transparent and accountable, ensuring equal treatment for all citizens
without discrimination. Attacks on minority communities, including Doctors and small Business owners, as seen in previous administrations, are not part of our governance. Those attempting to discredit the government through falsehoods should be reminded that the pu blic can see the clear difference between this administration’s integrity and the misconduct of its predecessors.
What about the heaslth sector in previous Govermenet

Jit / August 14, 2025
Raine, a very concise and perfect article about what is going on around the media these days. My only question is, how many mud slinging campaigns were unleashed against AKD and NPP before the Presidential and general elections? Did voters believe those? Did they heed to those? You know the answer. People know that the government is all out to prosecute the thieves, murderers and such yet they complain mainly about the speed at which its happening. Cost of living has been a major issue as I know but that has been an issue ever since I was born and bred and aged into my adulthood in SL. Every government had to face that allegation but won election after election since 70s using hook or crook, didn’t they? What that will make for NPP at the next election is nobody’s guess but at least NPP has re-established the judiciary, Police, and Bribery Commission with good leaders so most mud slinging top brains and campaigners will be in jumpers before long I hope (and wish)!

“In my humble opinion, only a leader with a clear vision, free from personal ambition and self-interest, can truly heal Sri Lanka’s deep wounds and guide our motherland toward a future of prosperity, justice and decency.”
–
What good can all of this do, even if the leader is sincere, if he lacks the leadership skills necessary to be in charge?
–
A close observer finds it hilarious that the president would frequently enter the chamber like a firefighter soldier to resolve any ongoing disputes that are ultimately caused by inept cabinet members. Furthermore, it is clear that ministers and their deputies are inconsistent in their acerbic public statements.

Perhaps it may be too late when you realize the true nature of these corrupt characters.
It appears it is like throwing water on a ducks back as to how GULLIBLE the majority Sri Lankan voters are getting fooled left right and center OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
I repeat there is no single character who is HONEST in the 225 plus one. As they are playing this game pretending to be different!!

I believe it is not what you talk about but what you don’t talk about that is more revealing. If those two are Machiavellian, what is Mahinda Rajapaksa? Do I detect that you have a soft corner for fake patriots like him, Weerawansa, Glyphosate Ratana, and the rest of the motley crew ?

“f not him, then why dont you tell us your ‘rational’ political idol to run the country out of this mess?’
This was offered in 2019 as the aragalaya wanted all 225 plus one out. But this cunning DISHONEST lot remained to form government.
That is why I keep saying the HIGHLY CORRUPT MSM did NOT give any publicity to the HONEST alternatives. Hence it was only Hobson’s choice let.
This man Anura D was one of the main culprits who colluded with the corrupt Mahinda Deshapriya to not even get their party registered despite fulfilling all the legal requirements.
I will not go into details please do your own research and find the facts.
“Anura Dissanayake, who was elected with great expectations by the people, has published the best evidence that confirms that he is doing nothing else at this time but continuing Wickremesinghe’s agenda.
The Finance Secretary is still there. Bank Governor Nandalal is still there, and Customs Nonis is still there. The compass is something that those who grope in the dark seek help from. What else is needed to prove that the Compass leader is another trickster, a serious liar, and a fraud?

They misinterpret even small details to their advantage because they lack experience. Saying that they restructured the debts is a huge lie on its own. Nothing would have gone as smoothly as it does now if not for the former president and his strong but small cabinet. However, the nation was captured by the nitwits-led NPP government, which is currently losing support from many facets of society.

Although I am not an expert in politics, I have spent the last 20 years carefully researching the problems facing my motherland. In retrospect, every president has done some admirable things for the country. Corruption is more likely to spread due to cultural and personal tendencies, and economic shortcomings have made it easier for corruption to grow over time.
–
A body made up of specialists in each field should be in charge of nations like ours that were split apart and went astray culturally, socially, and in other ways. Nothing else is receiving leadership from AKD. Fortunately for the nation, Trump tariffs were lowered independently for every South Asian nation. They simply mistook that for their own accomplishments. Even though some of us in the CT readership are compelled to think that STUPID AKD is the only leader of the day, people are not that stupid to accept it completely.
