Lasantha’s Daughter Slams Army Reinstatement Of Death Squad Leader

“Prabath Bulathwatte‘s reactivation in a prominent post will not only pose a serious threat to and have a chilling effect on those army officers and other witnesses who had the righteousness to speak up against Mr. Bulathwatte’s alleged wrongdoing,” says Lasantha Wickematunge’s daughter, Ahimsa Wickrematunge.

Prabath Bulathwattes reinstatement was announced on May 11 by Army Chief Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake in an interview with news broadcaster Ada Derana.

Ahimsa

“I can share what I told Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake. Major Prabhath Bulathwatte has been credibly accused by the CID of running a death squad from within one of the most elite units in the army. Reports filed in court indicate that several of his colleagues in Military Intelligence and many civilians have courageously come forward to provide the police with evidence against him, commenting on Bulathwatte’s reinstatement Ahimsa told Colombo Telegraph.

“His reactivation in a prominent post will not only pose a serious threat to and have a chilling effect on those army officers and other witnesses who had the righteousness to speak up against Mr. Bulathwatte’s alleged wrongdoing. It will also send the wrong message to the dozens or hundreds of capable, military intelligence officers whose efforts were dedicated to winning the war against the LTTE or otherwise protecting Sri Lanka while Mr. Bulathwatte was allegedly occupied with terrorising journalists at the direction of powerful masters for political reasons,” she said.

“Especially in this time of crisis, Sri Lanka’s security forces desperately need capable and professional officers with a track record of going above and beyond to serve their country and not settling personal vendettas. I am confident that the army’s intelligence corps has many such officers to choose from, and need not be cowed by those who want to see Mr. Bulathwatte and his alleged political masters legitimised and going free,” Ahimsa further said.

Last month Ahimsa filed a civil case in a U.S. court against former Sri Lankan Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa, alleging that Rajapaksa operated a clandestine military intelligence unit known as the “Tripoli Platoon” that was responsible for her father’s assassination as well was attacks on Deputy editor of Nation Keith Noyahr and Rivira weekly editor Upali Tennakoon.

Leave that to the courts to decide. Why reinstate an alleged criminal who is out on bail before the trail is over? Never heard of such a thing before. The Army Commander is a disgrace; the President and PM are complicit.

His guilt or innocence is a different issue in itself.

The whole thing stinks and calls into question the credibility of law enforcement in Sri Lanka.
“Major Prabhath Bulathwatte has been credibly accused by the CID of running a death squad from within one of the most elite units in the army.”
Remember CID is part of the states law enforcement.
“Reports filed in court indicate that several of his colleagues in Military Intelligence and many civilians have courageously come forward to provide the police with evidence”
If the evidence is not credible, how did the AG take it court?

If this one person does make or break the SL intelligence what does it say about the whole unit.

Army Chief Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake what kind of an idiot he is and speaks volumes about foresight. Internationally this is a black mark for the country.

    Dear Daughter,
    .
We TRULY understand your pain ! We are always with you. But we cant expect LAW AND ORDER to be clean in a society, almost everything under the current President seems to be against ethics and morals.
    :
To the list of murders that Rajaakshes to have perpetrated – lot more were added from the recent riots heard on the 12th and 13th May (at the begining of this week).
    .
Unfortunately, we have to admit, though with difficulties, our race is more melechcha than any other ethinic groupd, because there are lot more in this country that would support mlechcha leaders of Rajapakshe+Sirisena according to statistics.

Andare, one day someone will knock you out of place and another brute will write such vile things to your child. Let’s see who will have the final laugh. Have you ever thought what a child would have felt like when her beloved father was brutally murdered by an ex-army petrol station coolie who came back to rob and pillage this country and then to see her father’s death all over the news? Do you know what that feels like? If you have a heart you will realize it!!!!

Our history is that. Bestiality, incest, patricide, wantonness, betrayal are our heritage and none other than Mahavamsa says that. So no one can deny that. It is a fact. When Vijayan for his misdeeds with his cronies were put into a boat by his father he drifted sadly into SL. He met the hospitable Naga Queen Kuveni. This guy befriended her, enjoyed everything and then killed her. Well that is the starting point. From then on it was a rough journey of conflict and confusion and confrontation. The rulers were able to survive due to protection given by Tamil kings. They even did not trust Sinhala women and instead married Tamil women. Then came Buddhism. Once again thanks to Tamil artists and craftsmen they built dagobas and shrines and palaces. In the meantime there were always internal conflicts one killing the other, one betraying the other, entombing alive their parents, and many more. It continues to this date. Country lifted its head due to minorities buy they don’t want them too now. No one can save Lanka.

    Man…..This is serious.

Unlike the Muslim Minister who called the Army Commander not once , but thrice to get the Dehiwala Suicide Bomber’s mate out , who was arrested by the Army Boys.-
Bathudeen apparently told the Army Commander that the Suicide Bomber’s .mate’s dear Daddy is a good friend of Bathudeen.
But the Army Commander told Bathudeen to call back after 18 Months..

Now this from the Girl from Down Under who even issued summons to the all powerful ex Defense Mininter of Lankawe who beat the crap out of Pirahaparan is a different story..

The West who pulls the Lever at Srikotha, wouldn’t be too worried about Bathudeen I guess .
But I don’t think they would let the voice of the Girl from Down Under go unanswered by the Army Commander.

After all it was Dr Ranil who hand picked this Commander from a US Army Base for that matter..
That is what my Elders told me…

@Sarojini, my family knows the family of Richard personally but there was no social media at the time of his murder, hence you did not have the benefit of reading his untimely death (murder) or the reaction of the good people of the country.

Richard was an amazing soul, brutally honest and he reported things as they should and got murdered on the orders of Ranjan Wijeyaratne with Premadasa’s blessings. The fellows who carried out the killing and the ones involved, majority of them died in similar circumstance……………unfortunately the murderers of Lasantha are still walking free. One thing is Richard and Lasantha are in a better place and left others to suffer in the hands of these monsters.

You are referring to the same army commander who said Soldier in Nattanidiya video not at fault: Army Commander

Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake said yesterday the soldier who was seen in a CCTV video as having made a hand gesture to a mob during a violent incident that occurred in Nattanidiya in Thummodara last Monday, and was found to be not at fault
He explained that the soldier had not invited the mob but had fixed the strap of the firearm.

When we have a Chief of Defense Staff who is accused of harbouring and supporting murderer of children, a army commander who appoints an accused who attacked media persons and was involved in killing another media person, what else can we expect from Sri Lankan armed forces. The fault lies with the President who is the Minister in Charge of Defense, what is the use of having such a President?

Rajapaksha’s and their Goons are responsible for Lasantha’s death. Not only Lasantha but many other Journalists. Also 6.25 Million People including me are responsible for this current situation. We honestly thought culprits get what they deserved under Yahapalana Govt. Now things happening other way around. Army Commander, “Mike Tyson” with big mouth can’t reinstate this man without the blessings of that Polonnaruwe Sewalaya. What he says is that without that man, Bulathwatta, he can’t provide the security to the Country or guarantee the National security. What kind of man we have as Army commander. If he says that Bulathwatta only carried out orders, then he should openly disclose who ordered Lasantha’s assassination. This big mouthed Mike Tyson is the one who is blocking law enforcement authorities to take legal action against real culprits. Cardboard Mantela is silent and tomorrow he will say that he also came to know about this from the News papers. No doubt Mike Tyson will get another extension and Diplomatic post afterwards. What a mess we are in.

The family of Lasantha Wickrematunge should be given peace, and closure, by a thorough investigation, and the criminals responsible for the death of their loved one, punished to the full extent of the law.
This is a basic right, but sadly Sri Lankans do not have these rights, when those criminals are influential politicians, and top officials in the security forces.
This young lady is admirable, because she has not given up fighting for that right.
Many crimes remain unsolved, or the criminals get away, because there is incompetence by those investigating, or the investigation is crushed by corrupt politicians. This is no democracy, justice, and human rights, in this nation, unfortunately. Corrupt politicians get away with everything, even murder.
Let us not forget the family of Thajudeen is also left with so many questions, and no answers in sight. We are in a bad situation here.

    • 10
      0

Yes I too agree. I admire her loyalty and dedication. She has every right to seek out the truth about her father’s death and see closure. It is a basic right of any person. It’s her father. The same with Thajudeen’s family. They need justice meted out. The families need closure for their own healing to take place. These situations speak so clearly and loudly about the insensitivity of the leadership to individual pain and suffering of the citizenry.

Till you or somebody of yours get killed by these murders you will speak on behalf of them and say they are innocent. If the Rajapaksas continued their rule, none of you would be safe. Some stooge of theirs can kill you without any reason at any moment and then only your family will understand what Ahimsa W, Sandya Ekneligoda et al are doing.

I didn’t even bother to make a comment to the other article on the same matter.
    This is a joke.
Who the hell Lasantha’s daughter and the Rights Groups think that they are to interfere in the international administration of the Sri Lanka Army????
My this comment is actually to say kudos to Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake who promptly investigated the video of an incident in which an Army soldier was accused for supporting political mobs who attacked Muslims.
As explained by him, the soldier had fixed the strap of his firearm which was – deliberately – (my words) portrayed as a hand signal.
I appreciate Army Commander’s prompt action to clear the Army’s good name.
It is worth mentioning here that, at a time the country was vulnerable in the aftermath of the suicide bomb attacks, it was the Army Commander who kept the country together in one piece.
When it was revealed that the President and the PM had prior knowledge of the bomb attacks but didn’t bother to save people’s lives, the entire country became shocked, helpless and unprotected.
Then much to the consolation of the people, the Army Commander took control of the situation.
If it was not for the Army Commander’s firm stand where political leaders failed in style, who knows, many other Muslim extremists could have taken up arms and started terrorizing the country.
Even foreign spies already in the country could have seized the opportunity to destabilize our country.
When our Army came to the street, everyone backtracked.
The sight of our Army on the street made people feel safe.
The Army Commander has given the assurance that the situation is under control. THANK YOU!!!!!
We trust HIM (not politicians) !!!!!!!
    Therefore, let’s celebrate VESAK.
Singer Nalin Perera says Christians will also celebrate Vesak with us!!!!!

    • 9
      2

Champa, The army commander did this and the army commander did that. It must have been very difficult for him with all the info that was known to them and not acted upon because of the self serving skunk that we have as a president.
Nalin perera says Christians will celebrate Vesak this time. For sure Nalin will celebrate with the packet he earned playing at the son of the skunk’s wedding which was celebrated in grand style not even 3 weeks after a national tragedy.

        Aelajo
Your comment has too much rubbish. Not worth making a reply.
About Nalin, yes, he has suggested that Christians may also light a Vesak lantern in their houses this year. It doesn’t matter whether they do it or not, it is his thought what I admire.
For years, Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith played a prominent role in maintaining peace between Christians and Buddhists. I remember when a lawyer tried to instigate Christians against Buddhists in 2017 with fabricated stories of attacks on 20 churches, the Archbishop promptly denied and cleared the air. Even in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday carnage by Muslim terrorists, Archbishop played a leadership role in getting the country back to normalcy.

you have clearly demonstrated your brain capacity in accepting what the army commander said about the soldier who was seen in a CCTV video as having made a hand gesture to a mob during a violent incident that occurred in Nattanidiya in Thummodara last Monday, that he had not invited the mob but had fixed the strap of the firearm. When the soldier’s hand was seen inviting the mob and he moved away.

In my comment when I first spotted the “weird way” the soldier was acting, surely not giving a hand signal, I said that he was like a robot in a computer game.
After thorough investigations, the Sri Lanka Army has found out that the soldier was only adjusting the strap of his firearm. It is not giving a hand signal.
Surely your brain and mine don’t work the same way!

NGOs are responsible for the recent mayhem. Sri lanka can not live the way NGOs want or because NGOs need employment. Sri Lankan human rights also CRAP and the west has human rights but the way they implement is different. So, still keep the same thing alive.
In order to make NGOs happier, NOTE, I heard today Army is celebrating the 10 years of war victory, particularly to appreciate soldiers who sacrificed their lives.

West has extra ordinary rendition and they sent foreign s-supposed to be terrorists to Sri lanka. So, Now Ranil is getting the new National Security legislation and can send all the Trade union leaders overseas to see whether they are Terrorists. So that human rights are respected. May be when and if Ahimsa wicramsinghe come back to Sri lanka she can be sent to some other country to question her. so the NGOs cannot scream human rights.

Please remember under all governments not just Tamil TERORORISTS and Sinhala terororist have caused harm to even their own people and others and most of the time inhuman criminals have abused the law to take revenge , advantage of sexaul assault and murder and got away.
If any MP or Minister is against an act that protects innocents and humanity under human rights , Such peoples discreet intentions are highly questionable.
In reverence to the Wombs that bore you ,you must amend the law in the strictest manner as a tribute especially to Beauty Queen Mamamperuma and Sagarika Gomes .
I humbly urge all citizen to support the amendment after you. have personally examined it and do not let politics cover your sight.

60 000 Sinhalese were killed by the UNP regime and didn’t hear a single word frum UN/UNHCR or from any other international clowns. They all suddenly woke up and calling to investigate war crimes committed during the last phase of the war. So I guess they are somehow confident that war crimes didn’t take place during earlier phases of the war. Do they think killing people by the government is fine as long as the dead are Sinhalese ?

Because the Western politicians are more interested in votes than human rights. When the civil war was going on in Sri Lanka, many Canadian politicians came out in support of the LTTE so that they could get votes from the large Tamil population. The diaspora had many rallies complete with Tiger flag, Eelam map, and loudspeaker. Now they do a similar thing in UK. There are many Muslim voters so the more liberal politicians are eager to condemn the US and and Israel.

Andere, If I may remind you -nobody knew that it was not UNPrs but I knew JVPrs and their atrocities in the southern SL.. Today they behave like that democratic, but to tha ttime, JVPrs are hit-and-hide rebells. So, if you only point your finger at UNPrs , that is no fair. I have lost whole lot of mates, even today, I hardly know how many went missing.
I was then an Undergrad at PERA, who did not know where my belongings were. I was protected by my family not from being abducted. So were other families known to me, they protected their sons by all possible means. We were just registered students, not many of us were active as JVPrs. Unis were reopened and closed without further notice. Luckily I left the country for Europe for my education, but whole lot of students and youth were caught by underground killing squaud effective to that time. I wonder why JVPrs hunted mostly innocient young chaps known to me across the country, If I were there, I would have been burnt down to the same manner.
In the aftermath, I happened to know almost many that were at Pera, went missing. Some fathers and mothers whose sons were lost, became mad for their rest of lives. Each time back in SL, these brutalities are reminsent to me. I thought SL was a hell to that time.
But after 2005, the country and nation became even more cruel, even if the relay race of 30 year long CIVIL war ended thanks to collectivity. Since I knew the great work done by Late Mr Kadirgarmar under CBK admin being able to get LTTErs banned on any powerful soils of the earth. Unfortunately, Mr Kadir was also caught by an assasination. I now believe, it was MR who should have killed him. I have no idea about others and their assumptions on his killing.

We are passing trying times here in Sri Lanka and do not enjoy the luxuries of a peace in Australia to the extent to radicalising one of the suicide bombers to do harm in Sri Lanka. But we had ample time from Jan 8, 2015 to Apr 20, 2019 to conclude the investigation of the gruesome murder of Ahimsa’s father. Instead the authorities simply were fiddling, in the same manner in the light of noticeable information of the attack on Apr 21, 2019. I feel bitter that I was cheated into voting this lot in 2015. The authorities play games. The reality of the matter is that from top to bottom everyone is trying to cash in from the suffering of the ordinary. They use the murders of Lasantha and Thajudeen for propaganda and vilification of political opponents instead of bringing the culprits to justice. Although not relevant, to this case here even the police “Kossa” tries to cash in from the suffering of a patient in trying to restrict the visitors to one even when there are two passes citing “security consideration”. When boldly asked why on earth are two passes issued the fellow was visibly annoyed and said “Onna Kiwwa” implying that the wrong statement was made. The underlying motive as was later learned was to obtain a gratification. Ahimsa, you enjoy “Prajathantrawadaya” (Democracy) in the Her Majesty’s realm of Australia while we enjoy “Pagathathrawadaya” (Doctrine of Gratification) in Sri Lanka where people are supposed to sovereign.

Ahimsa has no other option rather than going after the death squad to get Gota.
    ..
She is aware that the intelligence community has a communal goal set up by the President.
    ..
The issue is Prabhath went beyond that goal to protect Gota’s name and wealth.
    ..
An officer who has lost his ethics have lost everything. I believe he is just another tool for political gains.
    ..
US army is stationed next door and waiting for an invitation. All Prabhath need to do is create an uprising of the public.
    ..
This will give Ranil, Sirisena and Rajapaksha to be on the top without election, while Srilankans will follow the steps of the Syrian people.

Babala, you are wasting your time with this moron Andare who is not normal. I appreciate your attempt at educating him but no way mate, he cannot be salvaged. Most of his posts are deleted. He is sick, I am sure. I too have seen all the JVP and counter JVP atrocities in 1971 and 88 period after Indonesia-Lanka accord. It was a killing field where animals clashed. So many burial sites after extra judicial executions by army and its death squads. That was a very clear indication as to what lowest level Sri Lankan’s can go down to. Racial riots where Sinhal civilians killing and plundering Tamils and then Muslims are all part of the Sri Lankan shameful heritage. A people who can just burn a precious library, and what more logic, what more religion, what more culture and what more history one can expect? How happily these guys attack, kill, burn and loot people with whom they have no personal enmity. In 1971 I saw how sinhala students at Pera Uni attacked poor army soldiers, over turned an officers car and when they came into campus to celebrate independent day the Sinhala students lifted their sarongs and exposed their genitals to the marching Sinhala army. These are the humans and patriots we created through free education to lead the country. If they could do this to their own people it is foolish for the minority to expect any understanding from them. No wonder in the later years Gnanasara thero, a most respected Sinhala Buddhist saviour of SL, lifted his sivru and exposed his genitals at a mosque. So Andare is one such product of Mother Lanka.

Ranil Wickremesinghe is a straw man. He is a mute, deaf and dumb to speak out. Lasantha Wickremetunga fought his battle on behalf of the country to save the country from getting pillaged.
