Lies Lies & More Lies; I Remember The Day My Father Punched You Mr. Ravi K !

By Achini Ediriweera –

Achini Ediriweera

In the midst of all this that is going on regarding Hon. Mr. Ravi Karunanayake, I recall how my father lost his temper and fortunately or unfortunately punched Hon. Ravi Karunanayake on Air on the LIVE National Television program called “Rathu Ira”. This program was telecasted on the Sri Lankan TV channel Swarnavahini.

Somehow everyone of us including my father’s office knew he was going to really get physical before he left for the show. He was furious as he had solid facts as evidence on how Mr. Karunanayake robbed the Lalith Athulathmudali’s funds post our beloved Lalith Athulathmudali‘s assassination.

What happened was Hon. Ravi Karunanayake had just crossed over to the UNP. My father presented papers and evidence of Mr. Karunanayake’s involvements with stealing funds from our beloved Hon. late Lalith Athulathmudali. This was an ongoing feud. When my father presented these facts with evidence, of Mr. Karunanayake stealing from the Athulathmudali’s funds, and Mr. Ravi Karunanayake kept denying it, matters got heated and my father could not stand the fact that he was sitting there and lying in this manner to my father’s face about stealing from the country! Therefore my father unfortunately or fortunately punched him during this live TV show, on air. As for the tape of what became the final episode of this TV show ‘Rathu Ira’, I personally wrote to Swarnavahini recently and requested for this tape to be retrieved from their archives. Unfortunately they wrote back to me stating they never archived things back then. While I am a little puzzled about that response I am hopeful that I could speak to the Director of the TV channel Swarnavahini and retrieve the recording of this episode mentioned.

According an interview of my father Ediriweera Premaratne that was published in the Divaina News Paper on 29 October 1995, Mr Karunanayake first entered the parliament through the national list through the Lalith Pila. That is thankful to those that win enough votes for the political party during an election. Among others who were responsible for winning those votes for the party enabling appointments through a national list was my father.

My father can’t stand people that steal from the innocent man. He would even hit us if and when we take the cars here and there to roam around in our childhood days. He has always told us he will not be that guy to steal from the public. He spoke of what a great sin it is to steal from these innocent people of our county, to rob them of the prosperous livelihoods that they rightfully deserve. He would stress on the fact that it is a sin that generations and generations and generations into future will have to suffer. Ediriweera Premaratne stayed loyal to his mission that is to somehow to help the poor and to work for “them” and to “fight” for “them”. To fight for their fundamental rights of the citizens of Sri Lanka. Poverty is not foreign for Ediriweera Premaratne because that is where he came from. He understood what it felt like to be hungry as a child because he was that child. He tells us and reminds us this every day since we lived in a ‘Colombo 7 world’, as he would like to describe it. Father tells me you do not understand Achini. Your world is not the world of this country. That world you are in only accounts for a very tiny percentage. People have very hard difficult lives. These words were not understood then, but echoes in my head many years later.

Getting back to the point, I do not condone violence at any point. Although these absolute jokers in Sri Lankan politics with that smirk on their faces while they trick and steal from the nation, can really push the buttons of those loyal to the people. Not those loyal to a political party, not those loyal to a political leader, but those loyal to the benefitting the people. With all due respect, our country is not made up of the Colombo 7 crowd.

Moving on…

Think. “yeah! yeah! Mr. Ravi Karunanayake is corrupt”. We have known this since the day he stole from our beloved Lalith Athulathmudali’s funds. Yet he has been allowed to continue just like any other corrupt politician in this country.

You see, every time I am lied to. I am offended not merely because I am being lied to! BUT! I am offended how my intelligence was underestimated.

We have already established the fact that he is corrupt. However taking into account these: “snake bite lies” and the “no I don’t know how much rent my wife was paying” or “I don’t know how much rent I was paying”. Lies, the ” I can’t remember lies” and you wonder where did their audacity come up from with these nonsensical, hilarious lies. I suggest you direct your attention straight to the ones listening and accepting these lies. The ones these lies are delivered to.

Now just imagine the level of the intellectual capacity of those who these lies are delivered to. Is it the judiciary? A certain independent commission? The public? Think. Tell me, are you worried now? Yeah? You ought to be worried as to understand the intellectual capacity of who runs this country! Either they are intellectually challenged or corrupt. You decide.

In essence lies are calculated, according to whom are the lies being said to? In other words those who are the subject of the lies. In this instance it is the general public of Sri Lanka to whom Mr. Karunanayake owes answers to and also the “learned” and “honourable” judiciary.

Learning this logic, and truly acknowledging this logic, If I was you I would be more concerned about the listeners than the corrupt liar himself. It is because these people that listen and accept these lies, they are the people that run the country. Example: the public, the judiciary, any authoritative commission. I cannot stress any further that it is so concerning that they are receptive to such absolutely ludicrous, nonsensical trash that makes the world laugh!

Most unfortunately every government and our legal system in Sri Lanka is a mockery of the people. How this cycle continues with every corrupt politician and any corrupt system is because the people unfortunately do not realize the role they play in this, while they continue to complain. It is time to speak to the people now and to address the issue at where it needs to be addressed.

My message to the people is please understand “fully” your power and stop allowing this atrocious cycle, this corrupt cycle that destroys and robs the poor man off their livelihoods, from continuing any further! Use your power dear people and stop this awful corrupt cycle of politicians from continuing to undermine your intelligence and continuing to rob the future of the children, your future! Don’t fight for politicians fight for YOU. Don’t rally up sweating wasting time for politicians do it for YOU.

YOU are the key to the solution of these issues. YOU are the key to solving the issue, than continuing to complain after the facts have already been established.

(It genuinely hurts me to write this or speak on it because Mr. Ravi Karunaratne’s sweet daughter is a very sweet, good girl/person. I am sincerely fond of her since our school days and she is a good person with nice values. I am sorry to her. I don’t bother saying this if I do not feel so sincerely. It’s not the children’s fault. )

I am glad you are in Perth……..Otherwise you would have been prone to accidents in Pathalaya……….Any way nothing to worry about your old Motherland……….Everything under control………That is what Dr Ranil said yesterday ……….. He told the Yahapalana suckers that all Debt will be paid off by 2025………In other words Yahapalana suckers will be Debt Free………..Don’t know which Debt though……….Because Dr Ranil has borrowed nearly 9 % of GDP since Jan 2015…….. Through Lootto , his mate Aloysious and FIL Mahendran of course ………That makes the Govt Debt total to 86 percent of GDP……….Yahapalana suckers are sooooo lucky……..Does anyone know how much our Mahavamsa GDP is ?……..BTW Rathu Ira is in good hands tooo… I am not sure whether you know about it…… It was all paid by our hard working Mmahavamsa inhabitant’s EPF………

Dear Achini, Its very heratening to know from your own words, that i take it as words coming from the depth of the heart, about your father Mr. Ediriweera and his true human qualities in respecting the nation and its prople by teaching you guys and inculcating fine qualities, especially in fighting corruption in his own ways. I feel very proud about people of such nature did lived among us and also feel sad that we missed such fine human beings for not being in the leadership of our nation. The Ruling Elites who are tied up with the horrendous criminal entity called ISRAEL and its Zionist mission in destroying nations through corruption, infiltration into govts., and power centres of a nation to corrupt it from witin in order push through their secret agenda that are detrimental to a nation but very profitable to them. The people are really really SICK and TIRED of seeing many generation of the Ruling Elite families (DS, Banda, JR, Wickremasinghe,Premadasa, Rajapakse and now the Sirisena) dragging this country to a hell-hole of a failed state level. The continuous Racistic pogroms that they plan and execute from time to time and the magic shows in arresting and releasing of the hard criminals proxies and minions of the govt., and many govts., now and before are just dangerous indications of the depth of the problem that we all, as the people of SL are going through for a period of seven decades. Its time that we all come together as one people and flush out all the existing ruling ELites and bring about fine human beings like Mr. Ediriweera to the highest levels of the power system. The Judiciary must, must and must be cleaned from the political prostitutes and wheeler dealers and double game Lawyer/Politician crooks and book them fir their crimes committed and whom are protected by the poltical system.

Gossip,. that Anika girl have plot and played a tricks with Mrs Ravi,.
and its a well planed attack by dirty media – talk about CB bond buying and selling rate and whether there is any big lost for GoSL – we dont care what Arjoon or Mahendran or Donald Trump is doing or buying or investing on – is there a big lost for GoSL is what we want to know – not gossips – public is not that stupid to cry or think big of a 7million rental issue. (google and see who this Anika girl is and who is her father is, then we can understand what she is doing in the inquiry commission :)

It was not your beloved Lalith Athulathmudali’s money. It was public money robbed first by Athulathmudali. Then, when he died, Ravi K for hold of that money.

Ravi is a crook… but this sort of personalised, non-neutral, opinion piece/rant is worthy of a facebook post rather than a newspaper article. Can’t take you seriously Colombo Telegraph.

And look at the content of this piece… my father (the good politician) punched Ravi (the crook). Sadly this show of violence is not brave, just shows the thuggery and the total lack of self control of Mr. Premaratne Ediriweera. Then your postscript to the daughter of Ravi K. shows how incestuous SL political arena is.

I am by no way defending Ravi K. but according to this rant the application of jungle justice by committing acts of violence on the accused should be accepted. Why do we need a judicial system Ms. Ediriweera?

This is not journalism, but a pathetic rant using the present circumstances to elevate another politician. (Not my intention to insult your father either)

I m not buying this. Sorry!

It is really sad that CT is publishing gossip like this. I come here everyday to read some sense but now I have to think twice. There are two articles in the CT today, this article and the one by Ravi K’s daughter. They are both gossip, no facts. Please CT, you have a huge readership coming here to read some sense. STOP publishing this rubbish!!!!!

First the writer is talking about Ravi K and then talks about how ‘great’ her own dad was. I am not a fan of Ravi K but this is a point where the wroter is trying to talk about her dad and her family than about Ravi K.

Second, this Ediriweera’s OWN SON was CONVICTED of smuggling GOLD and DRUGS in 2001 with an MSD guy and was sentenced to 15 years in Welikada. He had to serve his full sentence as he was found guilty and caught red handed. Hahaha so much for the nice values!!!

So, if Ravi Karunanayake is a known thief, looks like a mafioso, then Maithripala sirisena also knows these things as a veteran politician. Just think about the value system of Ranil wickramasinghe to appoint a thief and both the politicians are still waiting instead of getting rid of the thief. Why votyers should forgive all these three people.

No doubt about that RK. RW, both Arjuns have robed the nation in daylight.
However, your farther was a real thug who worked for Lalith. It was 1978 your father was one of the executive directors of insurance corporation of Sri Lanka appointed by Lalith. When Colombo university students made any protest against the government, your beloved farther came with UNP tugs and bashed poor students. I was one of those victimized student at that time.

You mean……………………… the……..GMOA is missing her father?

I know UNP has been always UNP. Ask Vijaya Weera, he will tell what a Jumbo lion it is. But it is under Ranil’s Management only it is is remaining as Jackel

Sinhalese seem to be taking great pride in acting like ruffians. So your father is someone of the caliber of Mervyn Silva, Vass Gunawardena who supposed to have slapped the then High commissioner to UK, Ganasara the thug in robes.

    Just for curiosity:
“When my father presented these facts with evidence, of Mr. Karunanayake stealing from the Athulathmudali’s funds”
Why dint your father present it to law enforcement? Was it because it will not stand-up in court?

Tell us something that news worthy of just shut-up. It irritates even to read.

    • 3
      0

She is not mentioning Wimal, Ranil or Hakeem. She is saying only Athulathmudali’s name, the Master of UNP.
Take that punch man. There is a pride even in that. “Kuddupaddaalum Mothirak Kaiyalai.” ( Even though it is a knock, it is by by gold wearing finger)

      3

Why can’t you see the core facts she is trying to put in, it is about corruption, its real eye opener for the Srilankans, don’t try to divert it.

I am starting to like the writing of this Royal Lady Achini Ediriweera.
But only thing is, it is outdated. The “punching on the face” drama has surpassed the 2nd, 3rd planes from the time of Ediriweera Premaratne.

Everybody advised Noris not to steal. But he had to be punched on the face to stop him stealing the gems of the Foreign Ministry. Anyway, Vass was a real bodyguard and protected all the gems. I wonder if Vass has a beautiful daughter too and living in Cinnamon Garden to write about that drama. Reading that will be really really spicy.

Ravi started stealing when he was a manager of the Freight Forwarding Department at Hayleys in the late 1980’s. That was how a Mercantile executive was able to buy land and build a house in Kotte in the 1980’s. The late D S Jayasundera had to march him out as he brought the Hayleys Group in to disrepute. He was a great fan of Lalith A. He claimed that Lalith was his uncle and worked that connection in his favour. He stole from the CWE (Sathosa) when he was a minister during an earlier reign of the UNP. This guy is a serial offender and needs to be behind bars. It is a poor reflection of the leadership that they keep him on as a minister with a crucial portfolio. It is sad to see him stoop that low that he drags his wife and daughter through the mud. All for the greed and love of money. Ravi and Ranil also bring discredit to Royal College. Ravi makes the Rajapaskes look good.

With all due respects, corruption, nepotism and graft are not confined to the Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. It’s perhaps the only “equal-opportunity” activity for all ethnic and religious groups!

I believe there are no honourable politicians in Sri Lanka. And people who keep electing these thieves and thugs need to point the finger at themselves for electing these individuals time and time again.

    That includes ALL ethnicities.

You are right, we the people have to rise up against corruption, it is ours and our children’s wealth they are stealing. Major robbery is done by a certain group of business owners continuously, they align with what ever the government comes into power. When people start looking at corruption seriously, the racism card will be put in to divert, and the ignorant people swallows it and forget about the corruption issue. They use tools like Dayan Jayatilleka to pump in instant racism.

The half of Sri Lankan’s mind-set more or less that penetrated by colonial’s has nexus of UNP line of thinking. The country top of elites, politicians and administrates who have been educated by guidance of Western Education (inside or outside country) and their methodology discharge duties and enforcement acts are closed to influence by Westminster -democracy and its ideology.
That is why we are unable move get out of this current UNP -ideology of by backward old an orbit of Politically , Economically and Socially order in an Island .
The current UNP-leadership has never adjust new situations and adopted new conditions by turning one to another period by that NOT take into account of changing new Global reality .
In the terms of “corruption” that all spheres are concern which that UNP won the “Nobel Price” of by that destroy key pillars of democracy within 32 months of since 2015 January 8th.
The experiences and lessons has thought us again and again— UNP ever-never change ugly features of corruptions from their political principles. That is the UNP’s!!!$$$.

Don’t use the word “great” with that racist Lalith Athulathmudali.

    “President Ranasinghe Premadasa:
In 1991 the then president of Sri Lanka Ranasinghe Premadasa publicly proclaimed that
“During the District Development Council elections in 1981, some of our party members took many people from other parts of the country to the North, created havoc and disrupted the conduct of elections in the North. It is this same group of people who are causing trouble now also. If you wish to find out who burnt the priceless collection of books at the Jaffna Library, you have only to look at the faces of those opposing us.”
He was accusing his political opponents within his UNP party, Lalith Athulathmudali and Gamini Dissanayake, who had just brought an impeachment motion against him, as directly involved in the burning of the library in 1981.”

Guess we citizens have forgotten something very important .Who appoints all these politicians and gives them power by bending down and paying homage to them?We the people make the politicians what they are.SO UNLESS WE FOLLOW SOME FORM OF ETHICS ,RELIGION (NOT CEREMONIAL AS MOST OF US DO) OR a worthwhile philosophy we are ALL to blame in the making of these politicians. The difference now is that it is talked about openly..Did we have TV channels(,all of them) newspapers,fb,criticising and having individual OPPOSITION MP’S saying THINGSS about the PRESIDENT AND THE CABINET, were people brought in front of commissions or to court or boards of inquiry and everywhere people talking of all the TERRIBLE THINGS THE GOVERNMENT IS DOING,were the students and commi’s and left guys allowed to demonstrate and cause havoc in the earlier ”DEMOCRATIC SET UP”?? We as a supposedly highly literate public have very clearly demonstrated in all areas that we cannot handle Democracy(because people have forgotten what its all about) and that we really need an Autocrat,or a dictator-(had a little bit of experience about what happens when we do),guess if don’t learn from our experiences we need to re-live them again. So to all of us here make our choice and live with it.By the way we should be talking about why all government and specially the last one hasn’t bothered IN THE LAST TEN YEARS AND EVEN BEFORE THAT to concentrate on building RAINWATER COLLECTION TANKS Iinstead of white elephant airports,a port that is causing so much trouble, even a private medical college that has become the focal point( instead of the drought), WALKAWAYS FOR THE ELITE TO TRY AND MAKE THEM STOP EATING TOO MUCH -SPECIALLY THE ONES WITH SOLAR POWER IN THE HEART OF COLOMBO WHEN VILLAGES DON’T HAVE POWER AT ALL.WE really are a mixed up people who can be really great at times!!!Good luck to us!

    Lady

You seem to be gloating over the fact your great dad, implied as a honorable politician by you, deservedly, punched the ‘baddie’ politician during a public broadcast. As a legal secretary & student of sociology, anthropology & International Relations, etc. etc. you should know better than to bring up such an incident on a public forum. If your father was so forthright, he should have pursued the matter in parliament & by legal action, instead of losing his cool & assaulting an opponent. In fact, your old man should have been charged with assault because that itself is an offense & you should know that. Keep your ‘judge, jury & executioner’ style of your father to your facebook fan page. You are obviously trying to gain mileage out of Ravi K’s misfortune or is it your conscience that wants to paint your father whiter than white?

      Lady,

Well said . One more important piece about our fellows education.
Wherever they go in search of higher education , all they know to
do is , memorizing where there’s no room for thinking . This is a
HUGE ISSUE for us today . We do not produce GREAT THINKERS.
Let alone GREAT , not even people of COMMON SENSE ! Looking
at the value of this writing proves just how the writer displays
her own frailty . You got a basic saying by ordinary folks that
‘when you point one finger at someone , be cautious that rest of
your fingers are directed at yourself.’ This is what we are
witnessing here today . Nevertheless , people like RK should be
discussed by anyone regardless of his mental capacity (lunacy
      excluded).

  • 6

The writer , a self proclaimed “Legal Secretary “is openly subscribing to physical violence.Need we say anything more.Shame on you Ms Ediriweera.

Incidentally you have an axe to grind against not only against Ravi K but your father as well ,for you are portraying him – your own father mind you -as a thug who resorts to violence even on a TV show. .Why are you pulling skeletons from your late father’s closet? What bad did he do to you for you to paint him as a thug?

Secondly, what does your writing say about your own view in regard to physical violence ?It clearly suggests that you are for it .

It is now easy to dig up a politician’s trash and smell it deep down .
All you need is to keep a well trained eye on a ministry of outspoken
party politician and on his projects where money flows like a stream.
And appointments the minister makes to top positions under his
ministry . Who got the well trained eyes ? The experts whose eyes
are fixed only on their arch enemies to whom they lost their earnings
and now facing the wrath . In the case of RK , he is not alone to speak
the GREAT TRUTH that he doesn’t know how this apartment worthy
of Rs 185 million became his FAMILY PROPERTY . Do we have any
other NATIONAL FIGURE who didn’t know the existence of a property
in MALWANA ? Where is this figure now ? Already on the journey of
fighting back with his soldiers ! And of course THERE ARE PEOPLE
WHO WANT THEM BACK , A HUGE CHUNK OF PEOPLE ! Do you still
wonder ? And , do you still want to beg the people to change this
culture ? I would challenge , you got no idea how this culture of
fraud and corruption runs through the veins of our public service
headed by corrupt ministers of various political hues ! Suppose you
distance politics completely from the public service ! Do you think
that will do the cleansing ? NEVER ! It is such a chronic infestation.
What is more shocking is , almost all of these corrupt individuals
are university graduates and highly qualified professionals who
runs after money than the quality of life ! More frustrating is , even
those who got the opportunity to live among the people of quality
life in developed countries , utterly fail to realize the value of quality
of life as opposed to the greed for possessions and wealth . I do not
mean all but the vast majority of Srilankans !

Can Schini tell us how Lalith Atulathmudali had so much money and being the reason for him to keep this money with Ravi K.

It is well known that serious stealing of taxpayer’s money started with JRJs government and all subsequent governments followed suit .

Being a top lawyer the only reason for LA to keep money with Ravi K is because such wealth is unaccountable.
