charged with rape and three counts of sexual abuse - GSL to help
Sri Lanka High Commission, UK says that it represented at Court to offer consular and legal assistance to Pahalagama Somaratana Thero, the Chief Priest of the Thames Buddhist Vihara.
The thero and the Dayaka Sabha had requested assistance from the Sri Lankan mission. Pahalagama Somaratana Nayaka Thero, charged with raping an underage girl in the 1970s appeared before Court on Monday. The Thero was released on bail.
Head of the Consular Services of the Sri Lanka High Commission in London, Chaminda Kularatna told BBC Sinhala Service that the accused Thero who holds a Sri Lanka passport had been informed of available consular and legal assistance.
Pahalagama Somaratana Thero has been charged with rape and three counts of sexual abuse, police said. The alleged rape and three counts of indecent assault occurred in Chiswick, west London, in 1977 and 1978.

There is one thing common among Buddhist, Christian and Hindu priests. They all have active cocks. We all know what Sai Baba did, what the Catholic priests in Rome did, how the Pope covered up everything etc. They are all evil and hypocritical.
While I condemn this child abuse – we should not pretend that this is a Buddhist phenomenon only and there is no need to get worked up about this as many Tamil are doing.

The incident is a very old one….about 32 years ago….as far as I know ….she was waiting till her farther died….the case is favourable to the monk. I had the opportunity to talk to a monk in that temple…there are lot of things to think….specially the duration of the incident….

Time lapse is not an issue if the monk committed the crime. He, the monk who is fully aware of the Karmic Concept that they always preach to lay Buddhists, should know that every action has a reaction and that it will come back to the person who committed it. This is really an excellent example of Buddhist Karmic Theory in action. Too bad for the monk if he committed it, but if he did not, then one has to ask, what did he commit in a previous life that made this woman haunt him in this life.

A child cannot in any case be a consenting partner to sexual activity. It is statutory rape. But if the case is fabricated then she is looking at a very long term inside a British Prison and things can only get worse.

It is not the woman who is prosecuting, but the state prosecutor. The woman seemed to have complained, though belatedly, but the investigation has been done by the UK police and UK crown prosecution service. There is no guarantee that they have got this all buttoned down before going to the courts, but here British experts are involved (unlike the politically driven and often inept Sri Lankan police and state attorney). The motive and timing of the allegation is certainly questionable, but unfortunately for the monk, this is a hot subject in UK (unlike the Duminda raping an underaged girl, where the politcians have blocked the justice to the kid).

The crown prosecution takes up such cases straightaway,as they are serious allegations . The evidence is not an issue as it is not expected at the begginning,but on condition it will be produced later at the trial.

The woman or the child in this case has to formulate an accusation which is then inquired into. Rape needs penetration. Abuse can mean anything from slapping a child for being naughty or groping the child. You are a white arse kisser because you have not realised that the British Police is the most corrupt in the Western world after the United States. Get your facts and figures straight when you start rimming the white man. If you do not know what rimming is ask any homosexual male… you must have many of them around you. There will have to be a lot of evidence for a Court to conclude that there is in fact any truth in the accuser’s story. Evidently the Colombo Telegraph will make the charge sheet of rape where in law there has to be penetration or there is no rape, abuse in any form touching etc tec. In this day and age it is usual that people in positions of trust misuse such trust be they Hindo swamis, Catholic and other Christian Priests. As this concerns the Sri Lankan Sinhalese Buddhists we must be there to support the man because evidently some people see money foloating around. We must not forget that a woman claimed Michael Jackson had abused her son and was later found out to be a professional fraud trying to trap rich people into paying their money into her account. In other words blackmailing them. This is a similar story so the Colombo telegraph journalist will soon be found out when the case comes to Court again.

People are born into a race not into a belief. Some Colombo Chetties have Sinhale mothers who were Buddhists and decide that all the Middle Eastern beliefs are rubbish. Lakshman Kadirgamar may not have told you he was a Sinhale Buddhist but it was common knowledge that he had given up being a Christian after he got a liver transplant and a liver donation from a Buddhist Priests. You probably have never heard of agnostic people. By the way Buddhism is a Philosophy not a religion with one million gods like Hinduism.

I am not surprised. I have seen this so called high moral buddist monks. Most of them has nothing to do with Buddism, They are opportunist, racist and protected by political thugs. Ordinary citizens cant survive if the they speak out. London this is possible.. Thank god Budda is not alive to witness.
