After Saturday’s unsuccessful protest at Heathrow airport against President Maithripala Sirisena, today a few hundred protesters gathered in front of Westminster Abbey, London.
Tamil protesters shouted “War Criminal Sirisena”. The Tamil Coordinating Committee and the British Tamil Forum jointly organised the protest.
Angry Tamil diaspora activists also condemned TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran for his video call to halt the protest.
Sumanthiran said; “Tamil community’s vote up and down the country, particularly in the North, East had primary contribution in bringing Maithripala Sirisena to power as the new President. The same Tamil people also welcomed the President in his recent visit to the North and East. Not a single demonstration/protest was held against him when he came to these areas.
“Respecting that vote and our people’s wish from the ground, I humbly request the organisers particularly the BTF who work with TNA to call off the protest.
“Its only 2 months that’s passed since the new President came to power and although several of the commitments haven’t yet been fulfilled, there are positive signs of these commitments being delivered. We shouldn’t be a reason for non-delivery as enemies of the new President may use these kinds of acts to curtail his ability to deliver.
“He has already removed the military governors from North and East. He recommitted himself that land will be redistributed, people will be resettled in their own lands and that prisoners will be released or charged when he visited the North and East a few days ago.
“We should enable him to deliver on these rather than help the opposition block his ability to deliver. Therefore I ask kindly and humbly that not even for TNA’s sake, but respecting our own peoples vote, please call off the demonstration.”

Never mind we will have to try to mend the broken bridge considering practice realities and difficulties. There may be enough members in this group who have gone through horrible events and who have lost their dearest kith and kin due to the brutal war. Those wounds cannot be healed over night. It will take time. I watched the picture very closely. and found NONE of them was carrying any Guns. just some banners. thank god it is in a western country and not in Sri Lanka or any other Asian country. Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is in a difficult and weak position in Sri Lankan politics because they have no power or strength to achieve a positive outcome for Tamils. The stand of Sinhala politics regarding Tamils is consistent and very rigid whatever the changes that happen in their politics. Tamils are always in the receiving end whether you support or protest to a Sinhala leadership. They may prepared to give some concessions or ministerial posts but never allow to participate in the decision making process or sharing the power.There is a competitive power struggle between Sinhalese groups. History tells Tamils go this way and that way in their competitive politics but always end of with nothing. Our neighbours also used as to achieve their own benefits and just closed their eyes when there was a maascre. Similarly, international community closed their eyes when thousands were bulldozed under the earth and now they get their hand on Srilanka.
However, we should note that there was no competition within Sinhala politics for past few decades and Tamils have made that competition back in Sinhala politics. Tamils should help that competition to get stronger and stronger. Historically the nature of competition lead to armed terror within Sinhala politics and the outcome was much greater than that we have seen in the North East.

Most of these protesters are poor asylum seekers whose case has been rejected in the UK and awaiting, deportation. BTF and TGTE are using these poor guys for their own benefit and promising them to file a fresh application on the basis of participating anti Sri Lankan activity in UK. Some of these guys were treated very badly in many occasions and some TGTE members are using these guys as their servants. There are number of UK Tamil solicitors who only relay on Asylum cases are prominent members of TGTE and BTF. Under these solicitors instruction hundreds of rejected asylum seekers were gathered prior to SL president visit and strictly instructed to attend both Airport and Westminster protest. Fearing the deportation many of them rejected the request to go to the Airport but agreed to attend the Westminster protest.

Governments in the West will allow this type of demo in the name of freedom of expression. But little do they take into account the nefarious activities they engage for the sake of leading plush lives at the expense of others.

It is an unwanted business to Sumanthiran to comment about civilised diaspora Tamils. If TCC only did this, it is quiet different but BTF supported so there must be some valid reason. Why Sumanthiran does not know the dirty things happening in North. Until now unlawful prisoners are not released Captured land is not released and Runil is barking about not reducing Waste-land(purampoku)army from North, still arresting diaspora ladies and kids at Katunayaka. Is it enough or Sumanthiran need some more. We are not saying not to negotiate with Mithiri. All we are saying is not to drop everything immediately what we have built up to now. Both internal negotiation and UN investigation should continue parallel. If internal system worked well to resolve Tamils political needs then the UN exercise could be dropped. I do not think Sumanthiran is an idiot like MR to take revenge for the burning of his image be by MR’s dogs. What we need now is unity, not to apply our usual Tamils Naaipuththi. TNA have to give good direction to the Tamil voters for the next general election with out confusing them. We only need one party for Tamils which is TNA at the moment. Once tamil’s burning issues are resolved , then any body can contest to make money.

How can people from the same community in Sri Lanka who voted for this government, protest in London against this government. It only proves my point that there is a huge disparity in the aspirations of the Tamils residing in Sri Lanka and that of their families and friends who live overseas who form the diaspora. Its quite evident that the Tamils residing in the country want their rights met and the diaspora want their revenge from a Sinhala government. Whilst I am fully in line with the aspirations of the former the latter has no place in Sri Lanka. Usha and her BTF should just shut-up and let the people on ground decide their future. We must accommodate the aspirations of the Tamils living in Sri Lanka and other minorities and stand as one country. There is no doubt that the Tamils have suffered under oppressive Sinhala regimes and their grievances have to be addressed. But the Diaspora must keep out of our affairs.
Yesterday a court in Sri Lanka sentenced to death a former Army Brigadier Chandana Priyantha to death for killing his wife. Likewise any Army personnel found guilty of killing innocent Tamil civilians should also be given the same sentence and vice-versa for members of the LTTE.
