Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been ranked as the 16th worst person in history by a website that has compiled a list that includes 50 such notorious non-fictional personalities.
Mahinda Rajapaksa has reached the 16th position obtaining a total of 7540 votes at the time of writing, while some 1688 votes had been cast against the position in the list that has been compiled by the ‘Ranker’ website.
Noting the criteria used to select the personalities for the list, the Ranker states it is a collection of ‘horrible, read (not fictional) people who have committed historical crimes.’.
“History judges them, and so do we,” the website states.
Meanwhile, Mahinda’s baby brother and Sri Lanka’s Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been included in the same list and currently ranks as the 29th with a total of 1261 votes in cast in favour of the position.
Among the 50 ‘horrible’ people are Joseph Stalin – ranking number one with 12572 votes – as well as several other sordid characters such as Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, Jeffrey Dahmer,Slobodan Milosevic and George Bush.
In short, the list is a compilation of most infamous mass-murderers, psychopathic serial killers, sociopathic religious leaders, dictators, deceptive political commentators etc. The list is open for voting – making it an accurate, real-time ranking of the ‘world’s worst people’ and some 348, 406 votes had been cast for the list at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe’s president, Robert Mugabe, is enjoying a surge of popularity that could propel him to victory in the country’s next elections, an independent poll of voters’ intentions suggests.
Mugabe would command the support of 31% of voters in a presidential election, ahead of rival Morgan Tsvangirai on 19%, according to research for the US-based pro-democracy group Freedom House. Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) dismissed the results, noting that Mugabe’s supporters were outnumbered by voters who refused to declare their intentions. But it is likely to boost the confidence of Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party heading into elections expected next year.
The Mass Public Opinion Institute polled a nationally representative sample of 1,198 adult Zimbabweans between 23 June and 7 July 2012, Freedom House said. When asked who they would vote for if presidential elections were held tomorrow, 31% say they would back Zanu-PF, an increase from just 12% in a 2009 survey. Alarmingly for the MDC, only 19% expressed support for the party, a dramatic fall from 55% three years ago. Other parties registered just 2%.
However, some 40% of respondents did not declare their voting intentions, making it hard to draw categorical conclusions.
Asked who they would support in parliamentary elections, 47% of respondents said they would not vote, or refused to indicate who they would vote for. Some 20% said they would support the MDC (down from 38% in 2010) and 31% would back Zanu-PF (up from 17% in 2010).
The results come as a surprise because for years there has been a near default assumption by the MDC, activists and media that Mugabe’s 32-year rule was drained of popular support and is sustained only by rigged elections and violence and intimidation. Freedom House’s survey implies that the 88-year-old could yet make a political comeback and win.
It also resonates with signs of discontent about the MDC’s performance in the unity government it formed with Zanu-PF following the disputed election of 2008. The MDC took responsibility for departments such as education and health and has been criticised for slow delivery. Some observers argue that MDC ministers have fallen in love with their official cars and other trappings of power.
Susan Booysen, author of the interim report Change and ‘New’ Politics in Zimbabwe for Freedom House, said she encountered complaints that the MDC had lost touch with grassroots constituencies, whereas Zanu-PF was still visible and fighting party political battles there.
“I’ve heard people saying MDC is just not doing work in the constituencies and is spending too much time in the palace,” Booysen added. “They’re taking for granted they’re the crown princes. They are not capturing the desire for change. And there is still a desire for change among people.”
The MDC questioned the validity of the study. Douglas Mwonzora, the party spokesperson, said in Harare: “The party respects the right of individuals and institutions to carry out opinion surveys on the views of the people of Zimbabwe from time to time. However, we note that surveys carried out under current conditions are difficult to rely on due to the fact that they are held under conditions of major fluidity.
“We note that a lot of people interviewed refused to disclose their political preferences. This is obviously for fear of intimidation and the violence they have been subjected to by Zanu-PF and its military junta. This margin of terror fundamentally impugns the conclusion that can be derived from this report.”
A statement from the party added: “The MDC reasserts that it is still the most popular party within Zimbabwe. That it has had a positive impact on the lives of the people of Zimbabwe since it formed the inclusive government can never be doubted.”

I met several Zimbabweans when i visited South Africa and they told me that Mugabe is generally disliked by people who live in urban areas BUT supported by the villagers.
Sounds very much like Sri Lanka
But you cant really compare the two
Mugabe wanted to get rid off white colonialists who arrived in very recent times and ruled the entire land and kept blacks as slaves
Sri Lanka on the other hands wants to wipe out the tamil minority who have thousands of years of history in Sri Lanka
Sri Lankans fail to realise that the only reason they have full control of the north and east of the island is thanks to the British who HANDED that area to them on a plate. It was part of a tamil kingdom before the British rule.
If you want to get an idea of Zimbabwe doing the same thing
Try to imagine the Shona tribe (which Mugabe belongs to) trying to wipe out all the Ndebele people (who are a minority tribe) in Zimbabwe
Infact Mugabe is actually blamed for a genocidal massacre of Ndebele people back in the 1980s under the guise that they were a ‘terrorist threat’ to Zimbabwe

1. Had sinhala people wanted to wipe out tamils, why do majority of tamils live in sinhala areas? How do upcountry tamils live in the middle of sinhala ppl.
2. East was never part of Jaffna kingdom. It was a part of Kandyan kingdom ruled by sinhalese. Jaffna kingdom was a vassal state of a different country serving foreigners and exploiting locals a kin the British occupation of SL or zimbabwe.
3. Tamil population in north was pumped up by,
3.1 Dutch bringing tamils as labourers for coffee and tobacco plantations
3.2 Internal migration of estate tamils. (I remember once DBSJ said 30% of Northern tamils are actually indian origin tamils)
3.3 During British period and even early part of independance indian tamils had freely moved to SL.
These are the reasons that lead to a tamil presence in north.
For a thousand year of history as claimed by Tamils, there is NO book for tamils to show. Jaffna is a desert when it comes to historical artifacts apart from Buddhist ruins and nallur kovil (which was again built by a sinhala king). In the other side of the palk straight tamil culture flourished but in SL side nothing! why? are SL tamil that much incapable? NO! they did not stay that much time to produce anything worthy.
Tamil kingdom in north was just a vassal state. The prime reasons tamil invaders were attracted to SL was for trade reasons like present day tamil fishermen do. So they conquer whenever they can but they never formed a civilisation here.
What Brits found when they conquered SL was a vassal state of south india by foriegners for foreigners. SL orgin tamils genetically resemble the sinhala people most. why? because they are sinhala people who were subject to language displacement due to Chola invasions.
