Maithri-Ranil’s Betrayals & Blunders Helped Rajapaksas To Return To Power

By Latheef Farook

Latheef Farook

Rajapaksa brothers should build a monument to Maithri and Ranil for creating the conducive conditions to return to power.

When the two – Maithri and Ranil – promised that they would restore law and order, bring corrupt and criminals to book, ensure communal harmony and many other pledges, beleaguered people   trusted and voted them to power.

However, instead of implementing their pledges, they have reported to have struck secret deals with the very same people whom the two – Maithri and Ranil- vowed to bring to justice, and turned their back on the country. Their deceptions, betrayals, callous mismanagement, violence against Muslims which they failed to prevent, new allegations of crime and corruption and many such allegations disillusioned the country.

Never enduing stories of crime and corruption involving government ministers, officials and their sidekicks sent shock waves among people who were sick and tired of President Sirisena and the Prime Minister Mr Wickremasinghe.

The shameless and destructive power struggle between former President Sirisena and his Prime Minister brought the country to a virtual halt. For all practical purposes country stopped functioning leave alone moving. Many people, especially the poverty stricken from all communities said” voting for Mr. Sajith Premadass means voting for the very same people accused of theft, fraud and striking secret deals with the opposition.

In a letter to the editor column under the title “What a U-turn” in The Island on November 17, 2019  Nihal Amarasekera had this to state;

In 2015 voters seemingly en masse voted to defeat a supposedly corrupt Rajapaksa regime blamed for many negatives including nepotism of the highest degree. This was disregarding the fact that it was the very same leader who, along with the defense guidance of his own brother, had been responsible for the defeat of the most feared terrorist organization.

About five years on, the people are apparently seeking the very persons to salvage the country from the abyss it is said to find itself in. The “100 Day Programme” of 2015 comes to mind; it gave enough and more hope for a beautiful society under good governance, which was expected to turn the country into a utopia. That was not to be. The bond scam was carried out and the voters’ dreams were shattered and we are where we are.

There are new hopes on the horizon for innocent voters; they can ONLY HOPE that their savior is around the corner. Thus concluded Nihal Amarasekera.

While in office both former president Sirisena and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe travelled all over the world signing various agreements. President Sirisena even visited Holocaust museum months after assuming office during his visit to Germany. This is an honor which not many political leaders in the world extend in view of   Israel’s crime records on Palestinians.

However both Mr. Sirisena and Mr Wickremesinghe did not find time to visit the Gulf where around 800,000 Sri Lankans are employed and their remittance of seven to eight billion dollars keeping the country’s economy afloat.

The result was former defense Secretary Mr. Gotabya Rajapaksa being elected as the seventh president of this country.

Addressing the nation after being  sworn in as the seventh Executive President at  ceremony held at Salapathala Maluwa of Ruwanweliseya in Anuradhapura on Monday 18 November 2019   President Gotabaya had this to state;

I knew   from the very inception that the key factor of this election was the majority Sinhala community. I knew we could win the election solely from the votes of the Sinhalese community. However, I renew my request made to the Tamil and Muslim communities to join hands   for the betterment of the country.

The fact that Rajapaksa brothers were using Buddhist temples and Buddhist monks ever since the ethnic war ended in May 2009 to reach out to Buddhist at all levels to build their support base has been common knowledge. Many believe it was here the seeds poisoning Sinhalese minds against Muslims were sown.

Though it was not declared even the UNP presidential candidate Mr Sajith Premadasa tried to woo the Sinhalese votes when he repeatedly said that he would promote Buddhism.

However it was not easy for Tamils and Muslims to support Mr. Gotabaya in view of their sufferings and experiences. The sufferings of Tamils in the aftermath of the defeat of LTTE remains fresh in their minds   with still no answers to their many questions and grievances.

Equally it was not possible for Muslims to vote for Mr Gotabaya as they do remember the persecution they were subjected to during Rajapaksa regime. In fact lawyer M.M. Zuhair .P.C. proved in the court how the Aluthgama, Beruwala and Dharga town attack on Muslims were well planned and executed by racist elements and the government failed to prevent it despite prior information.

However, past is past.  President Gotabaya’s call to Tamil and Muslim communities to join hands with him for the betterment of the country is a very positive development for the entire country. Because this is what the minority communities were looking forward to. They want to live in peace and harmony with equal rights and dignity in this country.

For the first time since independence country is clearly polarized into majority community on one side and all minorities on the other side. This is not only unfortunate but dangerous as evil foreign forces penetrated into the country could exploit to their benefit and harm the country.

In this regard, I can’t speak for Tamil community, but when it comes to helpless and voiceless Muslim community, I could say that they would take ten steps if President Gotabaya takes one step.

They wanted to live in peace and harmony with Sinhalese and Tamils as they had done for more than one thousand years. It was the senseless and unnecessary violence against them by racist elements for no valid reason placed them in today’s miserable plight. They had made tremendous sacrifice to safeguard the territorial integrity of the country. In fact top navy officers even said that “Sri lanka remains undivided today due to the great sacrifice made by Muslim soldiers”.

However racist mercenaries who wage wars against Muslims, perhaps implementing evil agendas of international forces, fail to understand or realize this. In fact Maithri-Ranil government also have their own share of guilt in view of the persecution and demonization Muslims were subjected to in the wake of Easter Sunday attacks

The mood among the Muslim community is that they do not want ministerial portfolios as most Muslim ministers tuned out to be corrupt and have been liability on the community. Equally, by and large, they have lost confidence in the controversial molavithumas who refuse to come out of their medieval mindset to guide the community in keeping with the need of the hour. They are not intellectually equipped to do so.

All what they need, according to leading figures in the civil society, is a coordinating officer, backed by the community’s intellectuals, who could be a link between the community and the president?

There is a growing feeling and fear among Muslims that unless racist violence against Muslims stop there will be no peace and the country will never move ahead. President Gotabaya has a rare opportunity to bring communities together, put the house in order, and move the country which is in deep economic and political crisis ahead.

Communal harmony and peace remain essential requirements for any country to move ahead.

Sirisena is a world famous ingratitude and ungrateful man .
Sirisena was elected as a president by the enormous help of UNP votes and minority groups votes but this man despicably forgot everything and became world famous ungrateful man.
Sirisena and Ranil wholeheartedly supported and fabulously paved the way to Rajapaksha brothers to come to the power again.

Innocent Sajith Premadasa is the victim of this betrayal of these two spineless leaders (Ranil & Sirisena)

Sirisena did nothing but only sermons in meetings and ceremonies in past five years.

I think it was the soft govt that brought RAJAAKSHE criminals back to power.
      :
They knew from the begining on the media (TV channels such as HIRU TV and DERANA TV) misled the average people in this country, but as rulers they did not take any actions again. They just shared the nation, that there are no laws. Abusive channels u-turned the public view so that Rajakashes woudl be the only force to keep intact srilanka which is not right.
Please listen to the summarised version from indian point of view.

India has been very nervous with the comeback of Rajakshes because they believe that Chinese would dominate in the region making Rajaakshes ultra fools.

      Dear Saman,
wait and see, SIRISENA will even join the newly elected govt and asking for a position.
      :
It is the education and the upbringing of a person makes him or her a good leader. None of these are seen either in Rajaapkshes or Sirisenas.
      :
I wish SIRISENA to be punished by Karma sooner than later.

I think, UNP should have nominated a matured leader to contest the election. Then they could win it. Had Mr Karu Jayasooriya contested, no doubt, things would have been different.
        :
But young UNP men in UNP thought SAJITH would have been the choice.
        :
Sajith could it in 2025 not in 2020. Not that hindsight everyone is clever, but that is the truth.
        :
Media Mafia ruled the nation, misled almost every average mindset. The outcome is allow CRIMINAL s return back.
        :
Now what they have to do is – TAKE the hand on the supreme courts and law and order to their hands.
        :
And set free all the high criminals from the prisons. So that the voters that voted for Gotabaya be punished by everymeans ( that will then be a slaughtering field by which natural selection would allow the goodies to be left).
This nation has not deserved good leaders. They behave like the devils … they respect more CRIMNALS than the other way around.

Simon de Silva are you suggesting that at 52 years of age, Sajith is not a matured man?

You seem unaware of contemporary political happening s in other parts of the progressive world?

Maithripala Sirisena singlehandedly was responsible for the coalition governments failure… he protected the Rajapaksas and their criminal from facing prosecution then went on to lead the October CoupeLk to bring all these criminals back to power. Sirisena should have been impeached and prosecuted for treason…

        :
But in that very moment, Rajaakshes behave MUGABE style leaders, people and selecting bodies had no other choice than to pick up the then SLFP secretary to fight against most abusive President Mahind Raja.

The Muslims must realise now, to survive and to be protected under a majoritarian chauvinistic Sinhala regime, they have to identify themselves as Tamils, as their race and Islam is their religion, not Arabic.

Come clean, support a merger of the N&E and self- determination, to think ahead.

          • 3
            4

Just as there are up country Tamils and Jaffna Tamils the Muslims of Sri Lanka are not monolithic in race… The Eastern Province muslims may have a lot of Tamil and South Indian genetic descent, the majority do not.

So its simply not possible for them to change their racial identity overnight. Yes politically they should definitely unite with all Tamils and Sinhalese in support of civil and democratic ideals for society.

            M. Vasagar

Stop DREAMING man. Muslims will NEVER “identify themselves as Tamils”, Nor will they “support a merger of the N&E and self- determination”.

The Sri Lankan Muslims took a Principled Decision to Stand for a United and Undivided Sri Lanka. They paid a HEAVY PRICE for this PRINCIPLED STAND which was one of the Major Reasons for the Defeat of Terrorism and the Government’ s War Victory.

You Ealam Tamils KNOW that without the Muslims on your side, you can NEVER achieve your Ealam dream though the Sinhalese think that they won the war all by themselves, thanks to the Unscrupulous Media which promoted the Rajapakses as War Heroes.

Get this right. Muslims will NEVER Support your Evil Plans to divide Sri Lanka and Muslims will Pay any Price to keep Sri Lanka as One, Single, Undivided and United country.

Al taqqia at it’s best, we are not gonna fool for this again. If we fall for this clearly there is no ealam but we will definitely have united and undivided islamic republic of sri lanka which is governs by rule of sharia, now usa and other western countries along with india realizeing true face of this so called religion of peace, bbs and gnasara himi trying to reveal that too, gnasara thero should be a advisor for prez gota, we should fight this war asap which is bigger than ealam war. This wahhabi salafi jihad should defeat, we should not fall for this kind of deception by people who acting like toddlers even after 4/21 srilanka’s largest attack on single day.

      Lateef Farouk,

“The mood among the Muslim community is that they do not want ministerial portfolios as most Muslim ministers tuned out to be corrupt and have been liability on the community. Equally, by and large, they have lost confidence in the controversial molavithumas who refuse to come out of their medieval mindset to guide the community in keeping with the need of the hour. They are not intellectually equipped to do so.”

      Well summarized.

Can you ask the molalvithumas, the so-called Moulavis and Ulama, if they have any confirmed data and evidence that they have to sent anybody to heaven or seen anybody at heaven? At least there are references in the prescient Hadith of Najd that the Wahhabi-Salafis like Saharan, will end in Hell Fire.

Agree that Sirisena and Ranil became Traitors to those who voted for change. They also learned to be selfish, Sevelaya (sleaze), crooks, Mala-Perethaya(living off the dead) etc. and enjoyed the ride.

Gotabaya was correct, that if he gets 70 percent of the Sinhala Buddhist votes, he can win, using Buddhism. SWRD did that using Sinhala. SJV Chelvanayagam did that using Tamil. Mullahs and Ulama use Islam. Even SLMC used Islam to get votes.

      Gotabaya election math.

70×0.7 + 30×0.1 =52 percent. Actual 52.3 percent. Approximately 70 percent of the Sinhala Buddhists and 10 percent of the minorities voted for Gotabaya. But 30 percent of Sinhala Buddhists also voted for Sajith.

One Good thing that may happen is that the MMDA may be reformed finally, Muslim women and girls liberated, and the ACJU, and the Gonibillas flushed out along with the Devil following Wahhabi Salafi’s

          S. C Pasqual,

Your low IQ is not conducive to data analytics and emotional analytics.

The election of Gotabaya has to do with religion, Buddhism and the corruption, lethargy and incompetence of the Yahapalanaya, aka Ranil and Sirisena. In fact, Mahinda Rajapaksa sent letters to the Mahanayakas for support. Religion and discrimination got ahead of corruption.

So the Sinhala Buddhist majority voted for Gotabaya, and the Sinhala Buddhist minority and the minorities voted for Sajith.

Just look at the electoral map. It tells it all.

Why did Gotabaya go to Ruwansaliyaya? Not Buddhism?

Has anybody got to Nirvana or Nibbana? Any data? Not yet. In the meantime, low IQ imbeciles prostrate to saffron clad monks. Saw Sirisena prostrate to monks as well.

Also please give us full details of Talak and quote each specific jurisprudence , as each school of Thought differs widely according to the branches of theology too.

@VADC, ypur argument is hopelessly irrevelent .

Let us talk about Sri Lanka and not about Countries that we are not rulers nor Citizens .

The sad truth is not just religous minorities in Muslim majority Countries, it happens the same toMuslims who are in Countries where they are Minorities.

To. conclude the term minority is not limited by religion or race .
Minorities are amongany others and especially those who stand up for justice and honesty , those persecute them and kill them are also another group of Terororists.
Minority belong today to a larger spectrum in its meaning .
If 10 turn against 01 who is fighting for justice and for the good of humanity , then the 10 are Terororists
Because they are terrorizing a love soldier .
If People reach out to their own communities and help each other and leave the others to deal with theirs, we will be a successful nation soon.
It’s hypocrisy to meddle and judge others without putting ones house in order .

They have been together on the same side and hence ” they are here to stay together for ever, in their current roles, as Govt, party chairmen, opposition and so on. Trust me neither one is going anywhere but staying right where they are “to serve our Sorry Lankans”. These are moments, I feel humble but grateful, that I had been provided with alternate options.

As soon as the election was announced , an all powerful minister announced publicly that ‘’nobody can win the election without the support of the minorities ‘‘ . Looks as if the majority community took up the challenge.

As an international marketing person, I firmly adhere to the basic principles which go as follows.
Forget the past, live in the present ad plan for the future.
The previous duo who ruled till a few days ago did a few good things but failed sadly in not honoring their hustling pledges on which the innocent masses voted them into power.
Both paid the ultimate price for their failings in not honoring their commitments and the poor ordinary folk are even struggling to make ends meet they are in the suffering mode now and they will still be when they attain nirvana.
The current mob in their previous bouts was thrown out in 2015 for their corrupt malpractice and their biased racial taunts.
Now the ever duped Sinhalese who have a reputation for sitting/shitting on their brains have once again voted these corrupt mongrels into power once again.
I shudder to think of the plight befallen on the ordinary citizen who is already knee-deep in this sinking vicious bog from which an escape will only is and will be a pipe dream.
The new criminally tainted obnoxious much corrupt new president has made a few positive moves but has soiled it by appointing one of his thieving brothers as the prime minister and another as a cabinet minister.
He has also brought into office another 15 of which most of them have no integrity and their tight places are being in jail for life.
Oh, when will most of the Sinhala cannibals who enjoy causing vicious harm to their minority harmless brothers and sisters along with their assets.
Only when this occurs will Sri Lanka become a civilized developed paradise to live in. I
t is only a piece of fiction a pipe dream.
    Cheers, R. j.

I agree the main reason of Yahapalanaya defeat was failiure to deliver.
After the honymoon period of one year if things were not working out the parliament should have been desolved and called for fresh elections.

They were just fudging around and making time without governing the country.

The currupted were not brought to book, the central bank bond scam investigation was not concluded, and the grand finale was the Easter Sunday Bombings which demonstrated the level of disfunction within the government, on top of this there was a strong indication that the Muslim polititians supporting the UNF have aided and abetted the extreamist eliments within the muslim community and the UNF government led by Ranil Wickramesinha prevented the investigations that were underway related to muslim extreamism because he had to apease the Currupt muslim politicians to stay in power.

Majority of Sinhala Buddhist and Sinhala Christians and others who just wanted to live peacefuly resented the UNF especially after the Easter Sunday Bombings paving the way for the SLPP and the Rajapakshas to take controle of the country.

Betrayals and Blunders! Is that all?
What about your and your colleagues’ articles full of mud appeared/appearing on CT? Many of us from a number of countries traveled to Sri Lanka before the PE with the sole purpose of working for Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Why? we felt that you had been trying to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka for nothing but $$$. There is no logic in what you were/are preaching before and after the war against terror that made Sri Lanka a terror free country!
Please remember, even hardcore Parti Quebecois supporters from Lac Saint-Jean use logic and reasoning when voting at federal elections. Your tribal leaders in the East and North never allow your people to use their freedom and common sense. Sri Lankans gave several chances to Pirabhakaran’s LTTE for many years. When they took those chances/opportunities for granted on the advice of $$$ driven NGOs, you know what exactly happened. Now that the same patience is given, wasted, and gone, it is time to be a bit impatient and vigilant.
Just look at the margin/gap between your savior SajithP and Gota: 1.3 million votes. That’s approximately 1/4th of what Sajith had polled.
What happened to your Yahapalana gang chosen in 2015 to create a new country? In the name of reconciliation, didn’t they ruin friendly relations between the majority Sinhalese and other minority ethnic groups? What type of freaking reconciliation was that?
Majority of Sri Lankans felt that RanilW and SajithP had abandoned all of them. Instead of fighting against this hate-filled onslaught, they encouraged and supported it.
As a result, when you guys published an article on reconciliation, several thousand votes got added to the GR’s vote bank. That’s how it jumped to an unprecedented 7 million.

All other candidates: half a million
Total number of valid votes polled: 13 million.

    Dear Latheef Farook,
    .
I’ve taken a quick look at what you’ve said. I agree with all that I saw.
    .
I saw also that you thought that some of Gota’s words from Anuradhapura held out some promise of his doing his best to become an improved person. There’s nothing wrong with us accepting that assurance.
    .
Yes, we want peace and harmony. It would be wonderful if the Muslim males will all agree to reform MMDA yourselves, without giving us, Sinhalese, an excuse to push you into it. These are very sensitive matters and are best resolved within the community.
    .
Make no mistake. There’s a Human Rights aspect to this. Child marriage is bad, but I know that in the present climate the extent to which it is prevalent. Please try to resolve all tht yourselves.
    .
Don’t imagine that all Sinhalese are saints. There’s terrible corruption where you would least expect it. Do the four S. Thomas’ Colleges mean anything to you? Well, the one in Kollupitiya is still called “Preparatory School”, which is the name that its founder, Mr William Thomas Keble, gave it. There are terrible things happening there which I think that I must reveal to you before it is too late. If that is done anonymously, nobody will take it seriously. Well, my name is Panini Edirisinhe – the “g’ that should be in the spelling carelessly lost by my grandfather.
    .
However, let my final words to you be an appreciation of your desire for peace and harmony.

      Greetings Sinhala _Man.
Just to add a few words on Muslim Marriage, first and foremost , Islam has no legal obligation that permits child marriage and for sure not in The Quran.
It has been my consistent claim that Quran is the one and only scared Athority for all Muslims and I have always been stating in most of my previous comments( I am sure CT may find some in their archives) that my belief is Quran is divided into three periods and its contents to be read as past ,present (daily life) and future .
And further the Quran also permits those who are knowledgeable , religous Scholars to engage with others who are experts on various matters and to interpret the Quran or propose consensus (Ijma) to solve problems of the times Muslims live in , the Quran is a very progressive book , depending how one reads it.

I have seen one popular Scholar and with a very good PR (,a foreign Sunni Muslim Scholar)stating the same about the Quran.and lately also a Local Muslim professional in Sinhalese.

Muslims *(Mostly among The Sunni Camp) must request their religous leaders to help make their Madhabs ( Schools of Islamic Thoughts) more progressive.

      Sinhala_Man,
      .
“It would be wonderful if the Muslim males will all agree to reform MMDA yourselves, without giving us, Sinhalese, an excuse to push you into it”
      .
You’re (as always) acting a dumbnut who talks things off the topic whether in your comments or article you wrote. MMDA has to be reformed or relinquished, no doubts. Don’t you see Sinhalese trying to push reforms to MMDA looks like a blind leading another? Probably you’re still in your 2nd triumphant mood that you don’t realize what you talk of. Your 1st triumphant mood was when SL won the civil war (though it was a common mood of all Sri Lankans) that created some sort of supremacy feeling in some. As a result, where are we standing after more than a decade? We take loans to pay previous loans’ monthly repayments. These are the things you, as a father community among children communities should be focusing and leading others on priority – Not MMDA.

        Dear Khaleel Rahman,
        .
A few words had got left out of my comment. I have no doubt it was owing to my carelessness. I had wanted to say that the extent to which child marriage is prevalent among Muslims has been exaggerated.
        .
With regard to the insults you hurl at me, you don’t seem to be able to comprehend what you read. Of course, my pseudonym was almost chosen to mislead. No, I’m not a Sinhala-Buddhist supremacist. In the light of that claim by me, please re-read. Whether off-topic or not, it’s not a bad thing for you to be told that it is the view of most Sri Lankans (including many Muslims) that MMDA ought to be reformed. However, I will never advocate that we adopt a ham-fisted approach to it. It ought to be left to you as much as possible.
        .
No, I don’t get into a triumphalist mood vis-a-vis other communities. I won’t say more because I seem to be addressing rather an irrational man who jumps to conclusions without thinking.

          @Sinhala _Man.
There are zero child marriages in Sri Lanka and what matters is Muslims in Sri Lanka .
I think best to leave each religous groups issues to be sorted out within their own community with their own religous leaders as long as it does not become a national issue and assumptions are dangerous.

Though I admit having read about child marriages in mostly poverty stricken Muslim majority countries, which I have only read about and no proof yet, also in other countries among other religous groups ,

I am more than certain.no religion or government of any of these countries have legalized it , that is to say , ONLY IF What I have read about are true.

We should not rush to believe all we read and especially in today’s digital world.

          Cheers
NB:The problem is most of us spend to much time judging everyone else that we miss our own faults and most of us live judging and hating others instead of of realizing our own faults and loving OTHERS,
Wonder what we will carry with us when we die.

      Sinhala Man,
I will not miss meeting you during my next travel to Lanka.
Now I have stopped discussing politics anymore because we cant change the abusive culture and nature of lanken average people. May be that is common to any nations in like minded countries. Pakistan faced the same until IqUAN got elected. Likewise, our people will take even longer to elect the most appropriate leader for all folks in the country.

Poor things… They did nothing wrong.. They have done nothing wrong .
They seem more upset than even UNP Preme and Dr Ranil about Sinhala people getting together to save themselves from UNP, TNA, and the whole Wahabi Political Unit who became part of the former after last Easter..

Hakeems and Bathudeens raked in big time from 2009 to 2015.
Kathankuddy where Mr Pirahaparan massacred 300 Muslims became a sort of a Saudi City with all the Bells & Whistles.

Rag Merchants became Billionaires with the ownership of the biggest Fashion Houses. thanks to the 10 years of development specially the last 5 years. after Nanthikadal.
And the lavish spending of our great majority of the inhabitants who are the poorest in the Nation.

Come 2015 , Hakeems and Bathdeens jumped ship . on to Dr Ranil’s Lap smelling the goodies in Dr Ranil’s basket.

Bathiusdeens and Hakeens started doing even better there ,with even their own Universities and their own sort of Mecca and even their own Shahria ..

But things went sour with the Zaharan and Ibrahim boys inventing Suicide Bombs
And the whole Muslim Cabal didn’t know nothing..
    -.
When the Shut hit the Fan ,they even tried to pin Kochchokade on Sinhala Buddhists.
And took refuge in Dr Ranil’s Camp.

I am glad the great majority the Sinhala people stood up in Unison to protect and safeguard whatever left in their own country.

Why does Shavendra Silva always look like a presidential bodyguard who has just swollen two foot rulers both at the same time?

        Isn’t it fantastic?..
        -.
Wouldn’t the Cardinal in Colombo now be able to tell his Flock to look forward to peaceful Xmas and New Year Mass ?..-

Anyway Mr Farook should have told us how Dr Ranil pulling Keselwatta Kid’s both ankles made Nandasena win the Election.
Instead of telling us the obvious, that the Muslims are the grieved party both before and even after Easter.

Dr Ranil’s last minute Support Agreement which was kept as a top secret is a Ripper.

The other move of Dr Ranil to take charge of the North and the East was another game changer.

Enlisting e the TNA Leaders and the UNP Muslim Leaders to antagonize the Sinhala majority by their new 13 D, coupled with Muslim demands ialso created more fear among the great majority who are the Sinhala people..

I always had this gut feeling that Managala Samare has a hidden agenda.-

When it comes to pissing off the Sinhala Buddhist,Mangala Samare set a new Mahavamsa record by even converting our Triple Gem to a Double..
While KK was going to Temples in his Sil attire to fool the Monks..

        Wonder where Mangala Samare is?
I haven’t seen or heard from him either at Srikotah or Slave Islands..I mean Vauxhaul Street..

      Sinhala man
Nothing is so tasteful like hate mongering, isn’t it? You found delicious company among the masters of the craft like Thisaranee Gunasekara, Vishvamitra and Sarath Alwis and what an open field Colombo Telegraph provided you all for the purpose. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was not even a Homosapien. Cardinal was a ‘horror’. 1989 tyre pyres were child’s play compared to Gota’s white vans.
I suggest you take some time off writing for meditative reflection on why your gigantic attempt to ‘educate’ the people did not produce intended results. If you come to the conclusion that majority of Sinhala Buddhists are not Homosapiens keep it for yourself.
      Cheers.

The biggest mistake SLHP and UNP made was agree for Sirisena to become president. He was manipulated by the Rajaokase family. It was the rift between Ranil and Sirisena was the cause for the Ester attack. Rajapakse cunningly used as the strategy to win the lections Now Ranil is the opposition leader and Sirisena is back as an MP. This was a planned affair to defeat Sajith. The caste system played a major part

It is like a cricket team , at the bottom of rankings, with the same players, admin, selectors, coach, and trainers, from time to time keep changing the players or their position, or composition of the team, expecting a different result. If one man alone can win it for Lanka all the time, then it aint cricket, because it never happened in 75 years.

There was a damn alternative to both the UNP and the SLFP/SLPP in Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s group, but the Sinhalese can’t think clearly.
They fall back on the previous set of crooks!
Their minds are always clouded by ethno-religious nationalism.
So the country is tailor-made for abuse by the right-wing scaremongers

    Such a shame.

I was also disappointed with AKD’s performance. My view is that all the Alternatives, and the UNP made a terrible mistake in not exploring the possibilities held out by Preference Voting.
      .
Scare-mongering there was, but we should have known how to counter it. The Parliamentary elections look like being even more disastrous. We must at least face up to reality.

          Soma,
          .
Of course, I know that video very well. I had given links to it myself.
          .
I may have been half-hoping otherwise, but really, I knew well enough that Gota’s victory was inevitable.
          .
Wouldn’t this scenario have been better even for you? About half the Pohottu supporters were fed up with all MPs in Parliament (no, I cannot give you a QED proof of that). Had they voted for two honest alternative candidates, and then for Gota, the run-off would have been between Gota and Sajith.
          .
Gota would still have won, but the electorate would have become more politically educated, had it suddenly been announced that with nobody having got 50%, the Preferences were going to be counted.. In my view that would have been a good thing.
          .
Voters streamed in to my polling station and joined the queue without pausing even to look at the large facsimile of the ballot paper displayed there. It must have been like that virtually everywhere. I can’t prove it. Even some reading these comments may not have noticed the said facsimile. They did not know what choices they had, who the 35 candidates were. It may be that you wanted it to be like that. Your comments show that you are no fool. Are you good or evil? That, I don’t know.
          .
I know that my argument is easy to ridicule, and for you to win a specious victory over me won’t be difficult.
          .
Let readers work it out for themselves. Reading really is an active skill – else people will watch porn or something similar. But very few in our society read, do they?
          .
          Try to be honest.

Compared to idiotic Ranil, Gota is indeed a very capable man. But today I looked at Gota’s new cabinet appointees and was absolutely dumb struck. There’s not a single person in that cabinet (apart from Gota himself) that worthy of a ministerial portfolio. These are the same old political hacks that have made Sri Lanka a rotten place. Weerawansa, Bandula, Dinesh, Pavithra, Johnston give me a f***ing break ! Given the situation I guess Gota had no choice but to go with these hacks. I thought we were going to have new faces. OK dream over. Go back to sleep.

        EA,
        .
Limited choice? Did you want even more than 35?
        .
Did you look at all 35 names? I did, and I was able to straightaway dismiss at least ten. Many others were “no-hopers”, but they were honest and could have been given a First Preference.
        .
You could thereafter vote for two candidates quite different from the First. The system introduced by J.R. Jayawardena allowed that, if all voters were rational. J.R was intelligent, but evil. He may have known very well that very few people would understand the system.
        .
EA, you are a fool to have written that particular comment, because I think you wrote that innocently.
        .
At the Parliamentary Elections, I don’t think that I will consider seriously the manifestos of the two major parties. I will see if there is an honest person in my District in one of them. I will vote for that person, which means voting for that person’s Party first. Going on this performance, I don’t think that the JVP will get a single “Distict MP”. They may get one on the National List.
        .
Sad, because AKD seemed easily the best candidate. But he, too, wanted a “kathire”.
        .
        His fault.
        .
And your fault, EA, because you are so pig-headed that you will only vote for a clone of yourself.
        .
There were honest candidates – other than AKD, if you really hated Marxism so much.
        .
Mahesh Senanayake? See this. You may not want him if you do.

    I beg to differ.
It was a 100% people’s mandate and no games , a very good fight, but the best man won.(even if he is not whom EVERYONE voted for)
.This is a sickness among us Sri lankans , we always need a scapegoat to quickly pass the buck , not just politics, but in everything
Onething to realise is , There is not much to be overjoyed by the winning Camp and absolutely no need to grieve for the losing camp.
( like the often spoken wisdom.of Noble Buddha)
ALL one need to do is go and compare the 2015 results with 2019
It’s a matter of 0.97% gains. And the voter turnout increased about 2.2% if am not mistaken, but that is not a big contributing factor , I am.sure the rejected votes may have somewhat adjusted that.
No one can say Sajith did not get enough time for campaigning , although he got his nomination late, ,
we must accept the truth, his campaigning was on already with or without the leader’s approval .
The difference is this , with due Respect to Sajith , I bow my head in respect to all his hard work and honesty.
But because of his young supporters over enthusiasm he was not able to get enough advice and guidance from the elders in the party , Ranil may have lot of short commings, but he is an extremely seasoned politician and respectfully a very good old fox at the game of politics .
This Ranil phobia spread through various elements was also a setback.
Meanwhile The Present Mr.President GR. Left the entire campaign to the people within his family whom he can trust and whom he knew are well seasoned and capable.
GR’s election campaign was fantistcally organized , very good strategies, the Digital world was well used .

Author Mr Farook is either a SLPP plant or is completely misled by SLPP propoganda.
There was no Maithree Ranil pact. In fact Maithree would not even have a civilized conversation with Ranil in the last few months, and especially after the October coup.
Any self respecting accountant knows that the so called “Bond Scam” was not a scam at all and there was no loss to the revenue of this country. It was all made up slogans by the likes of Weerawansa.
In the lead up to the presidential election, anybody could see that whatever group that the SLFP supported (approximately 1.5 million votes) was going to win. And thats exactly what happened – by 1.5m votes. Ranil being the old fox, knew this, and was finding a way to garner the support of SLFP until the last possible day. But Sajith and his backers were in too much of a hurry.
Sorry to say; the “facts” un this article are totally out of whack…

Maithripala will be read in history books as the “biggest traitor” of SL who sold his sole to SLPP for the bribe he got – a promise to be appointed to the Parliament through a “Pinata Seat”. He stabbed Mahinda on the back and joined UNP to become the President then stabbed Ranil on the back to join SLPP and fall at the feet of Gotabaya Rajapakse. When is he going to stab on the back of Gotabaya?

  • 8

Nimal, the Bond scam was not a scam ?

Ranil and Mahendran are bosom friends (Mahendran is a comely fellow, if you look closely ). Ranil is also very close to the Aloysious family and even tasted their Mendis special arrack at their palatial home ! ( this is in Ranil’s own evidence )

You are saying father in law Mahendran did no favour to his crooked son in law ? It was a fair and open bid and everything was straight ?

Consider, all government banks under UNP control ( themselves Bond dealers) did not bid for a very profitable bond offer but advanced their money to Perpetual to buy up all the Bonds. Mahendran adjusted the interest rates to benefit Aloysious.

Three UNP ministers turned up that morning at the bidding at the Central bank. For the first time in history the Governor himself turned up in the bidding room when his son in law was the biggest bidder. Later Ravi K got a rent free house from Aloysious.

After the scam became public, Ravi K also produced an undated letter, without any references, to justify the big sale of government bonds to Aloysious.

After the scam was discovered Ranil led the UNP in an all out defence . The results of this scam not only destroyed Ranil but also the UNP.

If you say Ranil is not a fraudster I will say he is a Hercules like Man ! Ha ha ha

The biggest blunder Mr.Sajith Premdasa will ever make in his life is to agree to break away from UNP and form a new party .

Phohttu of The Rajapakshes is a completely different story and it took Mr.PM Mahinda This long to form one .
Mr.Sajith Premadasa should be more patient .
Young are hasty and always disastrous .
Not every young politician can replicate Canadian PM and Sri Lanka and Canada are two extremes in culture .
We need a strong opposition ss much as a strong government and we need to change political attitudes and support whichever government that is elected for the sake of the country .
    Let’s move on.

This election has brought in a new definition to Sinhala Buddhism culture in Sri Lanka. That is
    1. Appointment of criminals as politicians.
    2. Kasippu mudhalalis, IRC’s, rogues and strays as Ministers.
    3. Rapists, street urchins, war criminals as supporters of buddhism.

Do we need maha nayakas for this process? Just the DA Rajapakshe genes are sufficient.

I started reading your comments with a lot of interest as I found that there were some important facts towards the beginning of it. , But the moment I found this, I completely lost my interest and closed it. “Sirisena even visited Holocaust museum months after assuming office during his visit to Germany. This is an honor which not many political leaders in the world extend in view of Israel’s crime records on Palestinians” Hence I kindly request you to, in your next article, if there is going to be any, please, for our education, list some of those crimes you say committed by Israelis against Palastinians. Holocaust was indeed a true occurrence in the history. In the backdrop of that truth, can you describe the crime committed by President Sirisena in visiting the holocaust museum.

    • 9
      2

      Nimal!
Surely you dont need someone to list the crimes committed against the Palestinians by the Israelis!
How come you are so ignorant?
The very establishment of the state of Israel was an enormous crime committed against the Palestinians. While so many Palestinians were chased out of their lands — if not killed — every Jew, anywhere in the world, is automatically entitled to citizenship in this stolen land. The Holocaust was a terrible thing (incidentally, though, it was not only Jews — estimated to be 6 million — who were its victims, but millions of others who are now forgotten — I have seen a figure of 13 or 17 million*), but that was no justification for Europe to assuage its guilt by giving another people’s homeland to the Jews. The possibility that some of their very remote ancestors may have lived there centuries ago does not bestow a right to claim that land now. Besides, as with other religions, conversion to Judaism has gone on for centuries and many of its adherents have no blood link at all to Palestine.
But apart from the initial crime of the establishment of this state, colonial occupation or whatever, please take some trouble to inform yourself about the daily horrors that are inflicted upon the Palestinians, the vile conditions in which they are forced to live, the endless assaults against their humanity.. Dont ask Nimal for a list..
..investigate for yourself. And also ask yourself why so many Jews are also critical of Israel, andceven support the BDS movement.
      .

They are racists, treat the Arab citizens and Africans like second class citizens, and they keep bragging they are the only “democracy” in the world, all while occupying, stealing, and killing unarmed Palestinians. Democracy and freedom only applies to them. They are armed and protected by America. While they steal Palestinian resources, including water, and blockade them, they go on to live their wonderful lives, while looking down with disdain at those who suffer under their military occupation. It seems the Holocaust has made them the abusers now, and they should know better.

Soudi arabia, pakistan, afghanistan, and other muslim majority countries are among most disliked and hated nations in the world not israel, it’s clearly evident now; trump, modi , putin, putin, xi, boris, gota all popular leaders in world now realizing this; moving their embassy to undivided jerusalem now popular among world leaders.

*I must correct a figure in my previous post.
*It is estimated that 11 million other peoples were victims of the Nazi Holocaust (not 13m or 16m as I posted earlier). This included Soviet citizens & POWs, Slovenes, Serbs, the Romani, political dissidents, homosexuals, Jehovah witnesses, the sick, etc.

What utter nonsense, VADC! That is the usual pitiful, lazy reaction of idiots & zealots to any criticism of Israel. Poor Jeremy Corbyn in England is similarly attacked because he cares about the Palestinians.
And “self-hating Jew” is the label for people like Norman Finkelstein, Ilan Pappe & Shlomo Sand who criticise Israel. The first lost all his family on both sides (except his parents) in the concentration camps, Pappe & Sand, Israeli academics, have written scathing books about the country. Pappe finally had to leave, but Sand is still a history lecturer there. I recommend books by all these people, Pappe’s “The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine”, Sand’s “The Invention of the Land of Israel” & “The Invention of the Jewish People”. These are Jews who refuse to close their eyes and ears to what is perpetrated in their name. And a few years ago Finkelstein gave a special lecture in an American University where he responded to questions. A female American student called him out for criticising Israel instead of supporting them. His reply stunned his audience.

Same argument goes with term islamophobia, that term marginalized legitimate criticism of islam and it’s founder, like term anti-semitism doing with zionism; like those above mentioned jewish scholars who criticize israel and zionism, there are plenty muslim scholars who criticize wahhabism, salafism even islam and it’s founder, and it’s persecution of women, non muslims, lgbtq people among other things namely majid nawaz, mohomed tawhidi, ayaan hirsi ali, ali sina, salman rushdi, taslima nasrin i invite you to read books written by them. Taslima nadrin’s book lajja clear portrait how bangladesh discriminate their hindu, buddhist and female citizens; no better than israel huh, tell your people to practice what you/they preach.

      Happy to enlighten apologists:

“New legislation entrenched discrimination against non-Jewish citizens. Israeli forces killed more than 290 Palestinians, including over 50 children; many were unlawfully killed as they were shot while posing no imminent threat to life. Israel imposed an illegal blockade on the Gaza Strip for the 11th year in a row, subjecting approximately 2 million inhabitants to collective punishment and exacerbating a humanitarian crisis. Freedom of movement for Palestinians in the West Bank remained restricted through a system of military checkpoints and roadblocks. Israeli authorities unlawfully detained within Israel thousands of Palestinians from the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), holding hundreds in administrative detention without charge or trial. Torture and other ill-treatment of detainees, including children, remained pervasive and was committed with impunity. Israel continued to demolish Palestinian homes and other structures in the West Bank and in Palestinian villages inside Israel, forcibly evicting residents.
The Israeli justice system continued to fail to adequately ensure accountability and redress for victims of grave violations of international humanitarian and human rights law.”

Irrelevant to the comments above. Israel is brags it is the only democracy in the ME. NONE of the nations mentions have occupied people for over 50 years, stolen their lands to build illegal settlements, and killed children for protesting.

Particularly Relevant to Sri Lanka is that, during the war against the Tamil Terrorists, the zionist entity, pretending to help Sri Lanka, gave Military Training to some of our Military personnel in their camps while at the same time giving training in their camps for the Tamil Terrorists. While Sri Lanka had to pay for the training, the Terrorists were trained Free of charge. As if that is not enough, the zionists called our soldiers ‘Monkeys’

What a Backstabbing, Treacherous, Cold Blooded Villains these zionists are. Can any Sri Lankan with an iota of self respect Ever support these Deceitful, Crooked zionists?

I’d rather put it as the Muslim community’s stupidity and arrogance put Rajapakse back in power.

I understand the Muslims eventually want to overtake the Sinhalese and wants to make this the Saudia Arabia of the Indian peninsula. That’s all fine and dandy. It’s their ambition afterall.

But while they are still only 10% of the population. At with those odds it’s kind of too ambitious and kind of stupid to bombard the majority and attempt to get away with it.

Masters of deception, they tried all tactics to see that Gota would loose. But all that failed. Even Asad Sally’s boasting of how the 30% of minorities can teach the rest a bloody good lesson only helped Gota in the end.

Its not the Muslim community’s stupidity it the foreign agent Cardinal’s bias racist speeches for the santhosams he got from Mahinda the reason. Who is this Cardinal? He was not selected to be the Cardinal by the Catholics of Sri Lanka. He was appointed by the Pope. Who is Pope, he is a leader of a foreign country Vatican and the head of a religion. Since the Cardinal was appointed by the Pope as his agent, the Cardinal is a foreign agent. Rajapakses who were complaining about foreign influence in the country are giving santhosams to foreign agent Cardinal to get Catholic votes. Its not the Muslims the cause its the Catholics. If one sees all the districts where Sajith lost one will notice its the Catholics that jumped ship and joined Gotabaya. Still Gotabaya got only 53% votes and 47% voted against him. This is almost half and half, country divided equally. Hence Cardinal has divided the country into two.

You anti-semite mf we know who you are and what israel is, sri lanka should abandon their support for palestine and stand with israel instead, move embassy to undivided jerusalem as it is true capital of israel as a country which face separatism we should not acknowledge another country’s separation, moving embassy to jerusalem now trending among world leaders even indians started sign petition for that matter, palestinians seeks support of indians while continualy backing kashmir separatists, pm modi now relizing this and recent past he does some valuable things alter islamic extremism, now it’s prez gota’s chance as he announce his candidacy right after 4/21. Don’t fall for ali sabry and muzammil’s lies. Bring gnasara thero and madhumadawa aravinda as advisors about islamic extremism.

          My dear VADC
Of course you know whom I am because I dont hide behind initials or a pseudonym tossing out comments (to put it mildly) that I wouldnt have the guts to make “in person”.
Strange to say, in all my long life, this is the first time I have been called an “anti-semite”. Funny that, especially since I grew up in an environment & at a particular time in history, when the horror & criminality of the Holocaust was felt very keenly — to the extent that some of us had a kind of existential guilt feeling, & even wanted to go & work in a kibbutz. It was many years later that my eyes were opened.
But VADC, do you really know who I am? Do tell me.

Ms Manel, if this VADC is really a Sri Lankan, he seems to be hell bent on PROVING that he is a ‘Monkey” that his zionist heroes referred to.
