Former Ambassador Tamara Kunanayakam today lashed out at Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera against the claims he had made on a TV program earlier this week, describing the former diplomat as one who ‘came forward on behalf of the LTTE’.

At a press conference this morning, Kunanayakam responded to the allegations made by Minister Samaraweera on March 17 during a political program in Swarnavahini, as part of a response he made on a question posed on the controversial audit report into the renovations carried out at the Official Residence of Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to Geneva and former Foreign Ministry Secretary Kshenuka Senewirathne’s link to the issue.
The Minister had stated that its necessary to ‘find out’ about Kunanayakam, who is continuously highlighting the issue on the audit report and had said that she came forward on behalf of the LTTE at the UN and in the Human Rights Council in 1989 -1990.
Kunanayakam in her response to the allegations said the Minister has misused the fact that she is a Tamil to automatically brand her as being an advocate of the LTTE while blatantly ignoring the fact that she has consistently and relentlessly fought against the LTTE and criticized the terrorist group throughout her private and professional life.
She recalled the statement made by the Minister few days ago on the need to review the ban imposed by the previous government on diaspora groups and individuals as no tangible evidence linking them to the LTTE exists. She questioned as to whether his comments on her means there is ‘tangible evidence’ to prove she came forward on behalf of the LTTE.
“Does this mean that my name appears on a list of LTTE terrorists or does it mean that Minister Samaraweera intends to draw up a new list of Tamils that he believes were with the LTTE and to put me on that list?’ she questioned.
She went on to state that as a former Ambassador of Sri Lanka, it appalls her to think that Sri Lanka should lose its credibility internationally simply because it’s Foreign Minister is a liar, ‘playing on racist and chauvinist anti-Tamil sentiment just so he can eliminate a person that he finds dangerous’.
“It’s not only weak but also devastating for the image of the country. . . In my mind, such a person is unsuitable to represent us internationally,” she said while adding she has already sought the possibility of taking legal action against the Foreign Minister.

Regardless of the credentials or LTTE background, Tamara does not display any professionalism in attacking Mangala and going with assumptions about new LTTE list etc. The response sounds very emotional and vicious in some places, which is not diplomatic or professional. This is similar to the type of response that Rajeeva displayed.

This is probably a deal between MTV/Sirasa, DJ, MR etc to sling mud at Foreign Minjster, Mangala Samaraweera and eventually at PM, Ranil Wickremasinghe as they have a hidden agenda to bring back MR. Tamara K, is at liberty to go to courts, but Foreign Minister, Mangala S knows how to face same.
One thing for sure these kind of backdoor deals would not do any good to Tamara K and her reputation. She having been a diplomat should be able understand the real situation.

All this Kala-pola is coming from the posting of Thamarai to Geneva for(about a few months until she received a punishment transfer to a waters-less jungle somewhere in south America) to handle the resolution along with Douglas, Hakeem, Karuna, Pillaiyan and of cause with some beautiful Sinhala Cinema so-actresses. I am not sure what kind of big deal this is bringing to Thamarai, but the pain some of those in the mission had is noticeable, including GLP’s hotel Drama. Then , it is only Thamarai may know why she has not forget to repeat to indicate that she was the ambassador at Geneva in these out of control dramas.
Nevertheless Mangala may do know the abundant supply of entertainment flow at Geneva during this period. Further it is not surprising Mangala’s resentment on Thamarai, while, he only may have moderately benefited, if any, the operations he launched, but successfully fished them for his masters, seeing in Geneva, even after that kind of free flow took place but the operation lunched under Thamarai was an utter failure. He, who has not hid his heart, further said that he may not mind investigating it but not for a King or a Queen, whose hopes dashed, feeling jealous on other successful achievers. That means, if anything in the Thamarai’s complain and auditors report it is only petty, because there are billion dollar frauds have been located in Middle East banks by the old government, again, it is as per him. I don’t want to be for anybody or support for somebody, but when the voters voted in the last election, it was somewhat like that the people expected to find out. So when Thamarai brought the blame of LTTE build the Geneva building, the free flow took place at Geneva during the resolution opposing project was launched under Thamarai’s leadership, is forgotten. This is like “oosi pauna idam theriyum, ullakkai pauna idam theriyaathu”(one who is able to see the tiny needle, pretending cannot see a big grinding motor rod). Naturally he is seeing this same as falsely slandering Jayakumari as reviving the LTTE by Thamrai’s masters’ government. Thamarai trying to slander him in return by accusing him that he is the one reviving the LTTE by first not accepting her request to investigate to allow the Geneva Building repaired by Diaspora Tamils and his reaction to, even UN’s long time request of not to ban democratic diaspora organizations illegally bending a UN regulation, when not ready to comply with other UN regulations of maintaining the accountability and taking responsibility. Thamarai’ request to investigate the Geneva building rebuilding by diaspora Tamils and not coming forward and requesting to investigate the failed propaganda launch under Thamarai’s leadership of March 2012 during which every government official was floating on the flood of entertainment raise clear suspicion on the motive of Thamari. To be fair to all, the court which is going to investigate the Thamarai case should investigate what happened during Thamarai leadership in Geneva too.

This is one of the lackeys of Rajapakshe. She was once the greatest hypocrite at Geneva. This is like the pot calling the kettle black. Except I don’t know if Mangala is lying. But I do know that Mangala is a major threat to the former Royals. They know it is only a matter of time before their filthy lucre hidden away will get exposed and hopefully confiscated. I also agree with the commenters about Kshenuka’s tenacity in securing a diplomatic posting. Given all the known facts this is an accuser of dubious background and so hard to believe. A warning for the government watch out for more such excercises. Any opportunity to sling mud will be exploited. Therefore avoid such issues or deal with them decisively head on. Do not be silent and do not expect the problem to go away because it wont.

Your wielding and dealing with these guys-Mangala, Mahinda and Vasu go back to those days when they were mere Mangala, Mahinda and Vasu, and when they upset you, you easily get angry. These people did much much worse thing than what Mangala or Mahinda did for you. I remember you wrote a love letter to Mahinda also when he detour you through Cuba from Geneva. I am sure you will reconcile with Mangala the moment you will have a face to face catch up. It is nothing a storm in a tea cup, we don’t want to hear about a fight in the kitchen.
Mangala knows that you have nothing to do with LTTE, better than any of us, but what annoys him is your agitation of him to prove Shenuka is a pro-LTTE, which you couldn’t do when MR was in power. But Shenuka is someone of an Eel, she can survive any season, she can go on tax payers money to NY and dance there, if the situation somewhat not so favorable, she doesn’t mind do it in Thailand, she doesn’t have foot-mouth disease that you and your friend Dayan have . Your tactic to stir Tamils for your side is well understood by them. You should appeal to your socialists buddies than Tamils, you had been very true to these principles than to that of Tamils. Opposing LTTE one thing, but what did you do when innocent Tamils were killed while holding those key positions that you proudly boast as held?. Not the Tamils, at least did you voice against Human right violation, when even Mr Banki moon asked for accountability.
