Merely Focussing On Hamas Attacks – Missing The Wood For The Trees!

By Mohamed Harees –

Lukman Harees

“How much longer is the world willing to endure this spectacle of wanton cruelty?” ~ Bertrand Russell

Israel’s PM Bibi (Netanyahu) referred to the fight against the Hamas as a war on behalf of the civilised world, forgetting about the uncivilised history of the Zionist Israel and the violent manner in which they have treated the Palestinians in the past. It took the Hamas’s deadly attack  to remind Israel, the patron saint The US , and the world that Palestine still matters. To treat the recent deadly attack on Israeli civilians as a on- off incident, unhinging Israel’s violent and terror prone past,  is to miss the wood for the trees.

As the world woke up to extensive and nonstop western media coverage of Hamas’s surprise attack on Israel, which was labelled “unprovoked,” it was not surprising to see yet another example of the complete dehumanization of the Palestinian people. The official response of the West to the Hamas attack on Israel follows decades of dehumanizing rhetoric against Palestinians, and especially those in the Gaza Strip, attempting to render them all as deserving of the multiple forms of collective punishment that Israel has inflicted upon them, most recently in the form of massive bombardment. It was not just Hamas that will pay the price, but, inevitably, all the residents of densely packed Gaza, a place from which no one can leave and in which no one can hide as schools serving as shelters and hospitals treating patients are bombed with alarming consistency.

The world at large, specially the West, appear to have started on a one way track condemning Hamas for the recent escalation of violence in the occupied Palestinian territory of Gaza and the West Bank, and Israel, which has resulted in an unacceptable loss of life. In the past few days, reports indicate Hamas fighters have killed hundreds of Israelis and injured over many more and Israel has responded, as we have seen time and time again, by subjecting the Palestinian people to acts of collective punishment — illegal under international law. Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, have already killed hundreds of  Palestinian civilians while injuring over thousands , according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

All perpetrators of human rights violations and war crimes must be held to account. Any attack on non-combatants and innocent civilians should be condemned  and that includes, not only Hamas’ attacks on Israeli civilians and the holding of civilian hostages, but also  Israel’s retaliatory attacks, using the full force of one of the most powerful militaries in the world indiscriminately against the trapped Palestinian civilian population. And undoubtedly , it is imperative that all parties, including the international community to work to stop the  and also must live up to their own obligations under international law to protect civilian life.

In fact, the unprecedented surprise attack by Hamas on should serve as a reminder of the unsustainability of the situation in the occupied and blockaded Palestinian territories and the dangers that non-state actors such as Hamas pose to Israel, no matter how strong their military and intelligence agencies are. Tensions have been flaring in the West Bank for months, but nobody expected such a coordinated, low-tech yet lethal incursion from Gaza. The West Bank has seen violence on a daily basis in recent months. Bibi’s government largely ignored the violence, and went ahead with its other policy preferences, including the overhaul of the judiciary. The Israeli military described the situation in Gaza as “stable instability”, noting that the situation, though volatile, was under control. And then came the Hamas attack, reminiscent of the 1973 Yom Kippur war when Egypt and Syria shook Israel.

What the world and the West in particular seems to forget is the bigger picture and the history, before hastening to issue one sided statements of condemnation. The Hamas’ attack should not be taken out of historic context ,as this continuing cycle of violence is firmly rooted in Israel’s ongoing 75-year illegal occupation, 16-year illegal blockade of Gaza and the maintenance of an apartheid state. Just two weeks ago the UN warned that Israel’s increasing military raids and attacks, rising use of military force and use of administrative detention, as well as increasing the pace of illegal settlements, and State support for Israeli settler violence against Palestinians is a violation of Palestinians rights, and was precipitating a spiral of violence.

The Israeli military had already killed over 240 Palestinians, including 45 children in this year alone, before this recent escalation — making it the deadliest year for Palestinians since 2014. The indiscriminate heavy bombardment of the Gaza Strip, and the cutting off of energy, food, medical and water supplies amplify the daily suffering of a trapped population that has already endured extreme hardship through years of Israeli blockade. The numbers of casualties are rising as the violence continues, and it is once again civilians paying the price for the failure to end the occupation and the cycle of violence it facilitates.

The Associated Press has now reported that Egyptian intelligence officials had warned Israel about “something big” happening and that Israeli security agencies were misreading reality. Anyway, it appears the Israelis fell for their own myth of military invincibility—not just superiority—which was meant to deter aggressors but ended up lulling Israel into a false sense of complacency. Now that invincibility has been shattered, it was the most hardline government in Israel’s history that failed to prepare for the first invasion of Israeli soil since the War of Independence in 1948.

Israeli  Bibi has used explosive language that further enflames tensions, escalates the crisis and dehumanises Palestinians ,which should be called out and challenged by the international community. It should be made clear that Israel’s ‘right to defend itself’ does not extend to perpetrating war crimes with impunity. Israel has a horrific track record of deliberately targeting civilians, using its military might and advanced military hardware to carry out disproportionate indiscriminate attacks, which tantamount to war crimes. This oppression and brutality  carried out in service of maintaining Israel’s illegal occupation and apartheid regime, are violations of the basic human rights of the Palestinian people. It is therefore crucial that the hypocrisy of the West be ended – being complicit in war crimes by making all arms sales to occupier Israel on the one hand and to victimised Ukraine on the other. The international community stands accused by failing to hold Israel to account for its decades-long violations of international law. The cycle of violence must stop, Israel’s illegal occupation must end, and the rights of all people must be respected.

The world appears to have forgotten the horrible Nakba, where Zionist militias killed 15,000 Palestinians and violently expelled hundreds of thousands from their lands  seventy-five years ago. The shameful legacy of the Nakba continues. In its current formulation, Israel knows only one direction: to deepen its domination over a people whose land it has stolen and continues to steal.  The Zionist state of Israel continues to systemically and consistently deny the suffering of the Palestinians, with mainstream media across the world downplaying and misrepresenting Nakba time and again.

In face of this continuing impunity, the world has shamefully fallen into a ‘deer in the headlight’ defeatist mentality, adopting a laissez-faire approach that has largely abandoned the Palestinian cause for liberation. It is a shame to see the vicious attempt by certain Gulf regimes to normalise their relationship with criminal Israel. Without legal accountability, financial sanctions, and other corrective measures, settler colonialism will be normalised. This is bad news for the entire international order.

With US backing, Israel’s impunity continues unchallenged. Israel has been in non-compliance with more than 40 Security Council resolutions and about 100 UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolutions. In fact, the UN Security Council failed to follow through in implementing economic and political consequences for Israel when it annexed occupied East Jerusalem and subsequently the occupied Syrian Golan Heights in 1981. Thus, as Michael Lynk, UN Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian issue, says, “Israel has learned an undeniable lesson with respect to impunity – that the international community will do virtually nothing as a consequence to Israel, so it can, in fact, have its cake and eat it too … We have reached a point where resolutions without resolve can no longer contribute to reaching the just and durable peace and human security that Palestinians and Israelis deserve’.

Palestinian territories, under the yoke of the longest occupation in modern history, have been a fuming volcano. There is no peace process. Israel has continued to build settlements in the West Bank, raising security barriers and checkpoints, limiting Palestinian movements, and never hesitating to use force or collective punishment to keep organised Palestinians under check. This status quo has only turned Palestinians more radical and Hamas even stronger. The world has conveniently sidestepped the occupation of Palestine, West Asia’s so-called original sin, letting the status quo prevail. But the status quo cannot prevail without consequences. The continuing retaliatory military operations by the occupier regime without addressing the core issue would only be cosmetic interventions.

Israel and the United States have wished away Palestinians. The terrible bloodshed of these attacks underscores the cost of doing so. Hamas attacks come after many decades of the US and world leaders overlooking the more than 2 million people living in Gaza who endure a humanitarian nightmare, with its airspace and borders and sea under Israeli control. The attack comes amid an ongoing failure to grapple with the dangerous situation for Palestinians in the West Bank where Israel’s extreme-right government over the past year has escalated the already brutal daily pain of occupation. Meanwhile , the symbolism of Hamas breaking through Israeli security barriers and wreaking havoc on Israel, will resonate across Palestine, the Arab world, and beyond.

The PLO leadership, with Chair Mahmoud Abbas still hanging on at 87 years old, lacks legitimacy among Palestinians. The Palestinian Authority, the body that exercises some administrative control over the occupied West Bank and that Abbas also runs, is seen by Palestinians as a collaboration arm of the Israeli occupation. Now Israelis are experiencing terrible loss and a tremendous sense of danger, and Palestinians living in Gaza will endure more violence, including Israeli troops entering the territories and the extensive bombardment of alleged military sites that typically have a significant civilian toll.

Global powers have been ignoring Gaza, but reality in Israel should not be forgotten. As the Israeli journalist Haggai Mattar in 972 Magazine echoed, “The dread Israelis are feeling right now, myself included, is a sliver of what Palestinians have been feeling on a daily basis under the decades-long military regime in the West Bank, and under the siege and repeated assaults on Gaza. The only solution, as it has always been, is to bring an end of apartheid, occupation, and siege, and promote a future based on justice and equality for all of us. It is not in spite of the horror that we have to change course — it is exactly because of it.” .

In the overall context, one of the clearest lessons of the current situation along the Gaza-Israel border is that there is no military solution to the Question of Palestine and the struggle of Palestinians against Israeli occupation and apartheid. The only solution to this perennial question must include addressing Palestinians’ need for freedom and national sovereignty in an independent state of their own. Indeed, the ultimate solution must not be determined by overwhelming Israeli military power and purported deterrence. Unfortunately, however, Israel and many analysts appear to be doubling down on old threats and continuing to treat the problem in military terms to secure the supposed defeat of Hamas and the Palestinians. The status quo cannot be maintained forever and Israeli repression and apartheid must end, including the siege of the Gaza Strip.

Hamas has just given Israel, the Arab world, and the United States an expensive lesson: keep ignoring Palestine and Palestinian rights at your own peril. The decontextualization of the current situation and the ignorance of the reality of Palestinian suffering constitute dehumanization and anti-Palestinian racism, and must be called out for what they are.

You know who screwed up the peace talk in 2002-2005.

Your delusions about China are no different than the delusions of many, perhaps including yourself, about the U.S. or matters of our own country including about the peace talks of 2002-2005.

Delusions of peace, and a conflict free world, and China ain’t a bully.

    Lukman Harees,
exactly what Sri Lanka state did “Merely Focussing On LTTE Attacks – Missing The Wood For The Trees”..to the Tamils and still doing to the Tamils. A Genocide against the Tamils.

Israel wants to wipe out Palestinians to take what ever Palestinian pockets is left to create Arab free Israel
Just like Sinhala state systematically wiping out Tamil race and Tamil culture to take over the entire NE.

Rajash, what you state is correct, and these fake Arab South Indian Thamizh origin Sri Lankan Muslims are also responsible for this calamity of what happened and what is also now happening to the island’s Thamizh, especially in the east and south. For in the name of Islam and a fake Arab origin that even the latest DNA analysis, has proven without doubt that they do not have or if there is, it is hardly traceable, they had joined the Chingkalla establishment and racists to systematically wipe out their fellow non-Muslim Thamizh. Constantly coming here and crying about Palestinians and other Muslim people and their plight, all in the name of Islam but do not care two hoots about the plight of their own fellow Thamizh on the island or even worse, join with the Chingkallams to marginalize, discriminate and dispossess them for minor benefits and to grab Thamizh land in the east for themselves, where they arrived as refugees a few centuries ago stating they were Thamizh.

      • 15
        3

Charity, compassion justice and fairness first begins at home. They largely supported and still support the destruction, dispossession and marginalization of their fellow non-Muslim Thamizh by the Chingkalla state and many of them even write articles to various newspapers supporting this policy. However, all of them are very vociferous, when it comes to defending the rights of other foreign Islamic nations and people with whom, other than religion, they do not share any common origin, ancestry, heritage, language, history, and culture, which they share with island’s Thamizh. All this done in the name of a fake Arab and other western Asian origin, which now has definitely been proven that they do not have, and they are or pure or almost pure South Asian ancestry. Meaning their ancestors migrated to the island from then Thamizh India, Thamizh Nadu and Kerala and if there is any little mixing of Arab in them it occurred there and not here at all. This is the reason they slightly closer to the Chingkallams, than to the native Sri Lankan Thamizh, as most of the low country Chingkallams, who comprise the majority of the present day Chingkallams are of recent South Indian immigrant origin, whereas the native Sri Lankan Thamizh and Kandyan Chingkallams are very closely related, as they are both largely descended from native Dravidian and older Indian migrants both from the northwest and south.

What is happening to the Palestinian and their systematic and planned dispossession is the root cause of all these problems there and the west double standards and blind support to the Israel state, is also the problem. Until this root cause like what is happening in Sri Lanka and the west and India’s double standards again here with regards to the Thamizh is tackled nothing will change but we will get more of these incidents and tragic loss of innocent lives on both sides, Jewish and Arab. However it irks me about the largely double standards of these Sri Lankan Thamizh Muslims too, who blind to what is happening to the island’s Thamizh, and largely support the Chingkalla Sri Lankan state and even go and lie overseas with what is happening on the island but come here and at other forums and jump up and down with regards to the plight of the Palestinians and other Islamic people who face the same plight. So the plight of their fellow non-Muslim Thamizh does not matter but the plight of all other foreign Islamic people, with whom they hardly have any connection matters a lot. What hypocrites.

Rajash thanks for speaking out the truth. Many Lankans including authors who cry today had NO qualms whatsoever when Lankan governments ( at times with help of Israel) randomly bombarded the North. 2) economic and food / medicines/ electricity blockade for years) 3) pushing people into an area smaller than Gaza and bombarding them 4) bombing schools, hospitals and shelters 5 ) establishing one of the largest “open prison” like Gaza 6) killing , abduction, disappearance in thousands, 7 ) taking prisoners to kill , torture and rape 8 ) tell us some thing Israelis have done which our SB government didn’t …..

Who was the “master mind” behind the Hamas attack ?

If you ask the Sri Lankan amateur detectives or the church going lambs they will say either Israel PM Netanyahu himself planned it in order to become stronger domestically or the leader of Israel opposition planned it in order to topple Netanyahu !

They will say there was a Jewish Zonic Zonic was with Hamas who was able to do all this carnage.

Such is the brain power of Sri Lankans, they see deeper than all other humans and see all the conspiracies everywhere.

For all their brain power look at the state of Sri Lanka ! Pathetic, corrupt and poor !

The Jews are not as clever as Sri Lankans so they think this was a simple Hamas attack.

Americans say they have no evidence that Iran was behind the attack. America should ask the Sri Lankan church goers/ detectives -they don’t need evidence-they will say an Iranian Zonic Zonic led the Hamas !

To our Alice like( in wonderland) analysts it must a new fact that intelligence services often fail. It happened on 9/11 and it happened in Gaza.

What do you expect our semi intelligent nation to understand Easter bombing ? In Sri Lanka it is round pegs in square holes in every thing, President, MPs, judges, policemen, journalists, teachers – all are not fit for their job as defined in Developed societies.

At the risk of being accused of downplaying the enormity of the Hamas attack (which, however, I believe is a drop in the ocean compared to the long & terrible years Israel has devoted to the destruction of the Palestinians),  I am stunned that Israel’s criminal response has been cheered on by so many govts.  And especially appalled at Biden’s rush to help the slaughter.

I wonder if the Hamas fighters had not been accused of rape & cutting the heads of babies, the outcry would have been so great. Has anyone has seen evidence of these crimes? Visual or verbal.

In this connection, may I share a video by a news service – Novara Media – “The Media’s Israel-Palestine Disinformation War” at  https://youtu.be/aHu09xZt9Uc?si=EtxK1u2FXYsQXnH0.

        SJ,

That misinformation originated in the Israeli Govt, with Netanyahu personally exaggerating what Hamas did in order to gain more support for an unrestrained campaign of genocidal proportions against Palestinians in Gaza.

Biden was repeating what Netanyahu said and then the WH retracted and clarified it. I wouldn’t say it was an intentional lie. But it would be correct to say that Biden, like a large number of American citizens, has simply bought into the Israel lobby’s lies without much objective reflection.

Biden is not any other American. He has been in this game for most of his life. It is the sacred duty of anyone who intends to contest election in the US to tow Israeli line if he or she wants to win elections.

If he really wants to verify he could always contact his spy organisations (almost 25 of them, let SJ to confirm the number).

          Agnos,

This guy is an ardent supporter of Rowdy Royals, attacks relentlessly Tamils, free Media, West, and give his life to save Stalin’s & Putin’s Russia. The man is not ready to accept that the Hamas, which started the current round of fights, committed war crime by taking the innocent civilian hostages and still refusing to release the hostages, which is the sources of all war and war front misinformation. Apparently with all excellence of his eloquent, convoluted arguments, Hamas used the donations to build bungers and bought arms to take hostages and hoped to beat Israel. Otherwise, I may believe Israel may have limited action atomic bombs and Hamas would be aware that it would throw on of that on Gaza & finish the story of Gaza if it wanted. What is explanation of Hamas taking hostages and winning Israel on war? While these are happening, Israel went and destroyed two Syrian airports to stop Iran president meeting Syrian president. Isn’t that telling that Israel believe that it can take Hamas, Iran, Syria and any other in the neighborhood simultaneously. Then, from where this guy is getting the data for his dream of Hamas holding for long the hostages and it keep entertaining him? Netanyahu winning or losing the elections is second, first is, Hamas is releasing the hostages and protecting the civilians of Gaza.

        • 3
          0

War front misinformation is very common. Mainstream media is reminding us of it in the Ukraine war and the Hamas war. The guy uses the free media to his unethical campaigns and enjoys atrocities created by Langkang Rowdy Royals or by Hamas holding hostages and the loved one’s suffering. Do this guy have written a word on the 40 years of pain of Tamil missing person’s relatives, or the youths suffered days & nights for more than 25 years on the hand of Rapist security in 4th floor detention of Langkang. He is jumping up and own for 10 days on CT but not even in one of his comments has said that if Hamas released the hostages, things would take a different direction. He is just struggling to establish that because Biden lied either Hamas taking hostages or holding hostages, or both are justified.
When Secretary Blinken was taking flight, with other things, the NBC anchorage asked, “Israel miserably failed in intelligence”. Secretary replied, “now there is a war, we need to attend to that first.” Thus he contended that Netanyahu’s mistake in intelligence paved way for this. Today, he said he is working with SA to end the war. Isn’t it that you want? How is President Biden’s so-called lie is affecting this?

Thanks, and congratulations on (some of people) your successful surprise turn given to discussion of the Hamas-Israel conflicts. Yap….., it is the media! It is the media that started and/or holding the hostages and prolonging the issue so the Palestinian refugees have no food and water. Interesting! And I see some, who are emerging from your school of thought, are our Paramilitary agents during LTTE – Appe Aanduwa war, who have turned into Hamas freedom fighters for Palestinians. Some interesting points too….. it is the American Jewish Media doing all forgetting the media etiquette or morals. What a genuine pondering! Do you remember who we are….? 174 out of 179 on Media safety. If we say that the Jewish American Media supplying the needed fuel to Hamas holding the refugees how is somebody going to question that? If Rowdy Royal Old King and the paramilitary troopers in power, wouldn’t they hang all the American Media men and by now cleared the killing fields in Gaza? “Shaaaa… bad luck for Hamas, these media men are still free and are to do this havoc!” Isn’t it your’s and the Tamil Paramilitary troopers’ esteemed opinion? Is that right? But Deva said, he went to Palestine to be trained as a EPRLF rebel, but now he thinks the Palestinian- Israel war is unwanted.

You should be a child to bring a worthless link like and condemn the media freedom. After all Israel is reporting 6 of its reporters, including a BBC one, is hurt in the conflict. What an easy, lazy, criminal statements some of these Tamil Paramilitary agents are making to discredit the free media, which is still well and alive outside the Wildlife Sanctuary, RavanaLE Lankawe?
Manel, let me ask you a question: Do you understand what Free Media means? If you look under many of the reports, you couldn’t have missed the statements saying “This is a reporting from war front warring parties. Verification is not possible”.
So, what next? Bring the Old Rowdy King to the seat; shut all the media reports because there is no way to verify; keep the world in complete darkness. Do I have to say that after the Old Rowdy King kept their war with Tamils as a “War Without witness and now they tell that their troops went to the field, in one had a UN charter in the other arms, to do a humanitarian rescue mission and the casualty is zero? In fact what really happened was they circled the entire population of Mulliativue and asked the ICRC to make sure they were in the desirable coordinates and use Thermobaric, Cluster and Chemical bombs.

Listen, Hamas reporters release so many home videos to establish what an upper hand they have and how deep they have entrenched so they can stand long in the bunkers. Israel releases videos explaining the reason why they have to keep the food and water shut so their citizens are not going to be kidnapped and kept as hostages to make Israel surrender. Whom do you think released the statement that Hamas will kill the hostages if Israel invades to find the hostages? Are you not going to believe it, unless you see a Hamas militant standing in a press conference issuing that threat in a video graph? What is the interpretation you think the Israel government should do between a video where women and children were kept in a building as hostages and a statement from Hamas that they will be killing them and your demanded video in which they are killed.

    • 3
      0

Are you attempting to say that Hamas is only kidding they will never do it? What are you pointing at blaming the American Jewish failure to produce the video for the death of Israelis? Now it is reported that 1350 Israelis are dead. Do you want the DNA test, UN firearms exports report to prove it was Hamas arms that killed them and the Israeli government records’ photocopies to establish that such citizens ever existed? How can you be finally made to accept that some Israelis are dead by the killing of Hamas? Aren’t you the earnest judges who gave verdict when 160,000 Tamils were massacred in Mullivaikkal, it was the LTTE who kept them as the cannon fodders and killed them? Why are you failing to point out to your Tamil Hamas Freedom fighters, that they worked only as Paramilitaries to suppress the Tamils’ freedom fight, but now turning out to be PhDs in Middle East history? What a Heinous shameless double acting is this? Where were they to question the government to which they worked as paratroopers, when the UN employee Gorden Wise started to accuse the UN that he was called back by the UN because to leave Tamils murders go as war without witness. It seems to be a high-profile and latest fashion in the town showing sympathy and arguing for Hamas?

Very well argued, dear Lukman Harees.
    .
Obviously, we don’t like hearing how little baby hostages are killed. However it is important for us to remember that we remember that all tragedies arose from this:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balfour_Declaration
    .
I acknowledge that I’m not doing much fresh thinking on all this; how can we, faced as we are with our own mess. That, too, began because we Sinhalese, were unprincipled from the beginning; even before independence. I didn’t ever like the methods used by Prabhakaran, but I always acknowledged, and still acknowledge, that it is we, the Sinhalese who were the original racists in our conflicts with minorities here.

Lessons of the current situation along the Gaza-Israel.

Russia will justify its cause, Indian siding favaours for China to have agreements discussed on G20, and lessons of the current situation along the Gaza-Israel , Palestrina nearby country will help as First neighbor policy as done by Indian. The Hamas attack makes the Global to interfere and Global has to look after all effected Ares. Often those that criticize others reveal what he himself lacks.
After having experienced the apartheid policies of South Africa, Gandhi wanted to fight for citizens’ basic rights. Gandhi’s goal was actually to fight for equality for Indian citizens.

    Author:
“The Hamas’ attack should not be taken out of historic context, as this continuing cycle of violence is firmly rooted in Israel’s ongoing 75-year illegal occupation, 16-year illegal blockade of Gaza and the maintenance of an apartheid state.”

The “occupied” land was captured by Israel in a time of war in 1967 with neighbouring Arab countries. Israel cites mainly security reasons for the continued occupation of the West Bank.

The blockade of Gaza is for the same reason. Israel and Egypt imposed a blockade on Gaza after the Hamas seized control of Gaza from the Palestinian Authority. Lifting the blockade would be suicide for Israel as long as Hamas is in control of Gaza as they do not recognize Israel’s right to exist and are sworn its destruction.

Israeli Arabs (about 20% of the population of Israel) enjoy the same rights and privileges as the Jews. The Arabs living in the occupied territories are not Israeli citizens. The charge of apartheid against them is not valid as the unequal treatment has no racial basis.

        OC and SJ:

Arab Israelis do have the same rights (including political and legal). What they complain against is alleged systemic discrimination. In this sense there seems to be a parallel to the blacks in the U.S. As with the U.S. blacks, the lower economic development and low levels of educational attainment of Arab Israelis are probably mainly due to cultural reasons. However, Christian Arabs have the highest levels of educational attainment (higher than the national average) with Muslims and Druze lagging behind.

In spite of their complaining, I wonder how many Arab Israelis would migrate to an independent state of Palestine or another Arab country if given an opportunity. Just like, How many Tamils in the South who complain about being “second class” citizens would migrate to an independent state of Eelam?

        • 4
          0

          LJ,
It may be, as you say, “systemic discrimination “. For example, an Israeli Arab(even a Christian) cannot become the PM of Israel. That goes by the definition of Israel as a Jewish State. The fact that they prefer Israel for economic reasons doesn’t mean that the discrimination does’nt exist.
You mustn’t forget too, that Hamas was legally elected in 2006. I agree it is a terrorist organisation, but why did the population elect them? Is it not because Israel made their lives miserable? Nothing is black and white . There are many sides to this question.

          • 4
            0

            LJ,
Sure, Hamas is a terror organisation, but the Israeli government says it adheres to higher standards. The IDF has struck a civilian convoy which the Israelis themselves ordered to move to the south of Gaza. The footage is verified, and is from the BBC.
If what Hamas did is terrorism, what would you call this? Not, I hope, a mistake.

BBC confirms the attack. BBC did not confirm the perpetrators. Israel did not accept responsibility yet. We need to wait for that because Hamas had ordered Gaza people not to leave.
But I accept the fault of Israel ordering to leave such soon. That contributed this for this attack.
After all it is reported that Israel cannot start the ground operation for few days.

            OC:
“For example, an Israeli Arab(even a Christian) cannot become the PM of Israel. That goes by the definition of Israel as a Jewish State.”

Then by the same token, an Arab Israeli cannot become a member of the Knesset but you know it is otherwise. There is no legal impediment to an Arab Israeli becoming PM in Israel. Isn’t saying that an Arab Israeli cannot become PM in a Jewish state like saying that a Tamil cannot become PM or President in “Sinhala Buddhist” Sri Lanka?

I haven’t made a thorough study of the issue of alleged systemic discrimination of Arab Israelis in Israel but it seems to me that, given the stupid ideas and attitudes of many Arabs in Israel, it’s a wonder there isn’t more discrimination. For example, many ignorant Arabs deny the historical existence of Israel in that land thousands of years ago in spite of ample corroborative archaeological evidence, which they think is fake.

              Continued from my last post.

              You:
“You mustn’t forget too, that Hamas was legally elected in 2006. …why did the population elect them? Is it not because Israel made their lives miserable?”

You comments assume that people always vote rationally. In hindsight were the 6.9 million voters right?

One would have thought that the present suffering brought about by Hamas’ massacre in southern Israel would have made most Gazans turn against Hamas but, alas, it appears to be otherwise. In a rational world, we would have the Gazans saying to Hamas, “We are going through this misery because of your provocative act against Israel, to which we didn’t give our consent. Israel wouldn’t cease attacking us as long as you are here and in charge, so be gone and leave us in peace.” But, sadly, we do not live in a rational world.

By the way, did you know that only the Jews are required to enlist in the forces and are subject conscription? The non-Jewish citizens can enlist voluntarily and I just read that some are stigmatized by in their communities for doing so. Another, attitudinal problem on the part of Israeli Arabs,.

How do we stop the unrelenting evolution of the economic hit man strategy and China’s takeover?

The riveting third edition of this New York Times bestseller blows the whistle on China’s economic hit man (EHM) strategy, exposes corruption on an international scale, and offers much-needed solutions for curing the degenerative Death Economy.

In this shocking exposé, former EHM John Perkins gives an insider view into the corrupt system that cheats and strong-arms countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars and ultimately causes staggering income inequality and ecological devastation.

EHMs are highly paid professionals who use development loans to saddle countries with huge debts and force them to serve US interests. Now, a new EHM wave is infecting the world, and at the peak of the devastation sits China, a newly dominant economic power, with its own insidious version of the US EHM blueprint. Twelve explosive new chapters detail the allure, exploitation, and wreckage of China’s EHM strategy in Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. A short description of EHM on the web.

You bring so many stories here and refuse to expand, because there were rarely any truth in the stories you bring. American government do not lend to anybody like China does

    Harees,
First, we should understand why there is one-sided and lop-sided news coverage globally, more specifically in the white world about, about the Palestinian struggle/survival/humiliation and also the underprivileged global population (>60). It is because the major mass media (TV, news papers, social media, journalist (pros..e), is controlled by the holocaust Jews and their western obedient political servants. The holocaust survivors and their descendants have 100% forgotten about how they suffered and lost their lives under Hitler, if they have not forgotten they will never do things like what/how the Zionist state is doing/treating the Palestinians.

Question for all of you guys ;-
where does the statement “We stand with Israel’s right to defend itself ” come from?
In the last few days this is the most spoken phrase
Ask any politician in the west, a question on what’s happening in Palestine/Israel ,
before answering the question the first thing they say is :
“We stand with Israel’s right to defend itself “
this happens in a parrot fashion , politician after politician, that the first thing they say

once they make that statemen their brain is skewed and their answer is skewed towards Israel.

it seems that an invisible force is threatening them to say “We stand with Israel’s right to defend itself “

what is the origin of this statement?

Rajash, I take this as, you have the answers. I have mine but I will prefer waiting for the other two to respond. This statement of ” we stand with Israel’s right to defend itself ” , is not new because I have heard it many times in past in the U.S , from both Republicans and Democrats.

Manufacturing public opinion according to the whims of the Jewish controlled mainstream media goes on apace. Thanks to social media though, the footage of genocide in Gaza are reaching western capitals, where massive demonstrations are rocking the peace there. Israel should eventually face its own demon within, and be consumed by it.

“All perpetrators of human rights violations and war crimes must be held to account. “
Why don’t we start with our country–Ceylon/SL. What Israeli’s had been subjecting the Palestinians for the last 75 years can be compared to what has and is happening to the Tamil speaking SL citizens.[TSC]
Had the Sinhala political and religious leaders treated the TSC as EQUALS over the last 75 years our country would have become a developed country with first class citizens.

I cannot believe this. Israel has issued a “death warrant” to 1.1 million Palestinians in Northern Gaza, and the US has approved it!!! “We can walk and chew (civilians) at the same time”. Huh!
Where do Palestinians go? They are trapped between the Mediterranean sea and Israel’s iron wall. It is absolutely certain that Israel plans to kill at least a million Palestinians under the guise of attacking Hamas who are operating from a No-Zone.
The Israeli Prime Minister failed to protect his citizens from an imminent Hamas attack. Instead of resigning, he now plans to kill Palestinian civilians to cover up his shame, embarrassment and guilt, and also to appease Zionists. Israel was/is run by Zionists. They say they are Jews. But they are not Jews. Jews are good people. It is very easy to differentiate Zionists from Jews. Zionists are blood thirsty and have no regard for human lives whereas Jews are peaceful people.
I earlier said that Mr. Biden’s re-election in 2024 is certain. But, there was no Gaza-Israel war at the time. If Mr. Biden doesn’t end up handling the Gaza issue in a humane way, Palestine could be his nemesis.

Champa, u say: I cannot believe this. Israel has issued a “death warrant” to 1.1 million Palestinians in Northern Gaza, and the US has approved it!!!

Perhaps you’re not old enough to remember things like the My Lai Massacre on 16 March 1968 (2 days b4 my birthday)? Clearly Biden has forgotten it, especially since the US killers finally got off. Except for Lieut Calley, who was sentenced for 10/12 killimgs (ca. 500 helpless men, women, children and babies — rape, brutal assault, etc), which Nixon soon reduced & finally cancelled.

See Wikipedia on the massacre. There are also videos with photos and interviews with some of the “participants”.

And Biden has the temerity to boast that the US & Israel uphold standards that a (naturally) terrorist organisation like Hamas doesnt.
And My Lai wasnt the only infringement of the law of war, etc., by the US in Vietnam, or anywhere else for that matter.

      Champawati,
Hamas prayed for it, Israel granting it.

But the other part, “America Approved it”, I am not so sure of.
That part, as per some commentators calling it, the Jewish Media is reporting it, and you are repeating it. Beyond that I have not seen America OKing Israel for blind strike. If it is in Iran, I may second you. But not here. But as it is a political – diplomatic issue, you may not come to know how America is dealing with Israel, other than we all are saying America will be with Israel on whatever Israel is doing. To comment on Palestinians Death, I need to see when Israel is starting its ground operation, and how much thrust it exert to wipe out Palestinians. I would say, with the Gerald R. Ford Aircraft Carrier coming to the theater has a lot of safety guaranteed to Palestinians unless other hyenas like Lebanon Hezbollah get into that. That is not just increasing the security of Israel, but even Gaza. I would see this as the final war between Israel and Palestinians. This could be the final bye, bye to Hamas and Netanyahu.

There can be no doubt that these horrible things had to be expected when Balfour promised a Jewish state in parts of the then Ottoman Empire. We must now pay the media to find out what’s been happening.

Not sure you guys are able to access it. A thoughtful, poignant and amusing piece by an English Columnist of Jewish Heritage.
“In light of the calamity that has unfolded in the Middle East during the past seven days, it is arguable that nothing else matters. That nothing else should be spoken of or written about.
First the Hamas incursion and slaughter and then the Israeli response in Gaza have drawn a new picture of the End of the World for us in 2023 — one that has shades of the Holocaust, of 9/11, of the 75 years of Palestine’s tragedy, of both world wars, of a thousand years of pogroms and of the Apocalypse itself, as described in the final few, not at all cheerful, pages of the New Testament (other religious texts are, of course, available).
It turns out that maybe it isn’t climate change that is going to bring about the end of everything, or Putin or Covid or China . . . but this.
What is one then to say of it? When I wrote my Notebook for these pages on Monday, I touched briefly on events and how I had explained them to my ten-year-old son but that he had asked me not to write about them because he feared the repercussions, whatever I wrote.

Israel issued an expulsion order for Palestinians in Northern Gaza. This is a moment of history repeating itself. What Israel is trying to do is, expel as many Palestinians from Northern Gaza as possible, kill the fleeing, annihilate the remaining ones and establish new Israeli settlements. Those who were expelled will never be allowed to return to their homes. If neighbouring countries open their gates to Palestine refugees at this juncture, it will be advantageous to Israel.
On the other hand, there are no shelters, refugee camps or hospitals in Southern Gaza to accommodate 1.1 million new residents. Shouldn’t the United Nations intervene in a situation like this? What is the use of the UN Peacekeeping Force if they cannot be deployed in Northern Gaza to protect Palestinians from Israel war crimes? This is another example that the UN policies are based on racism, colour discrimination (colourism), double standards, duplicity and hypocrisy.
The biggest discrimination committed by the United Nations against Palestinians was not accepting them as a member state while Israel, which occupied Palestinians’ native land, was granted member status.

    • 2
      6

The US Presidents repeatedly took action to green-light Israel atrocities against Palestinians and escalate the already volatile tension in the region. For example, former President Donald Trump acknowledged Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the Incumbent sent a warship in support of Israel’s retaliation against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Arab and Muslim countries have extended their support to Palestine as never before. Palestinians and their supporters hold rallies all over the world.
In the meantime, the support for Israel is waning. Soon after Hamas’ incursion into Israel, we saw Israeli flags everywhere. But, within a week the tide changed. Now, the Palestine flag dominates in major capitals.
The segregation, discrimination, displacement and dispossession faced by Palestinians today was a direct result of the Balfour Declaration issued by the British on November 2, 1917.
Prior to 1917, Palestine was entirely an Arabic country. Then, systematically, Zionist settler colonists occupied Palestine by expelling and annihilating Palestinian natives and confining the remaining to the tiny Gaza Strip.
Some Palestinians may not agree, but, as the FIRST STEP to restore their native land, they should agree to a “Two-state Concept with Jerusalem as the Capital” and establish an “Independent and Sovereign Palestine State” in order to secure the membership status of the United Nations.

“Israel issued an expulsion order for Palestinians in Northern Gaza. “

We too had similar expulsion orders, 1948 Citizenship Act,
      Sirima–Shastri Pact, Riots in 1958, 1977, 1983, ……

        Native,
Don’t forget Gota’s infamous expulsion order to Tamils in Colombo lodges , which, creditably, the JVP opposed.

In my previous comments, I used the term “Israel’s retaliation”, which is wrong. Actually, Hamas’ attack on Israel should be regarded as a RETALIATION to Israel’s constant bombardment, cutting off vital necessities and restrictions on the freedom of movement of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Israel’s high tech Iron Wall around the entire Gaza Strip first started in 1994, rebuilt in 2002, attached surveillance sensors in 2007 and constantly upgraded since then. It is 708 km long, 65-150 km wide (buffer zone), 7m high, and there is an X no. of meters-deep underground wall, too.
In 2007, Israel imposed an air, sea and land blockade on the Gaza Strip and since then (for 16 years) Palestinians have been living in an open-air-prison. How many people In the world are aware that the drinking water in the Gaza Strip is 100% contaminated?
It appears that Hamas’ breach of Israel’s sophisticated Iron Wall, the only one of its kind in the world, on October 7, 2023 could be historically significant to Palestinians for many reasons.

      Ms. Manel Fonseka.
I noted your reply to one of my comments posted on Amrit Muttukumaru’s article titled “Brilliant Timing To Right Injustices To Palestinians” dated October 9, 2023. It was the third part of my long comment posted on Oct. 10. By mistake, I have posted it elsewhere. I hope that you will find this comment clearer than the one you quoted. One para was missing in the one you quoted and it shouldn’t have been started with “Since 2007, for 16 years”. Re: the grammar part, it should read as “Israel has been constantly bombing (or bombarding) and randomly cutting off water, electricity … .etc.”.
