Mike Pompeo – Welcome To Sri Lanka!

By Rusiripala Tennakoon –

Rusiripala Tennakoon

We welcome the visit of Michael Richard Pompeo, the US State Secretary turned  Diplomat, politician and businessman to Sri Lanka. The visit of this highly placed official of the most powerful country in the world today is viewed with great expectations amidst much speculation by different quarters. WE welcome you because you are coming as our honored guest invited by our Minister of Foreign Affairs. The invitation extended to you by him dispels any and all qualms surrounding your arrival mainly because this Minister happens to be a highly reputed personality in this country hailing from a family of a famous fire brand who fought valiantly to free our country from Foreign domination, British, at the time. The minister too is, identified with the progressive block in this country. Any way we are a hospitable nation historically acclaimed for our generosities associated with our hospitality. Regardless of the outlook of any guest, friend or foe, we Sri Lankans are used to extend a warm hand.

Michael Pompeo is the 11th high ranking person in the U.S. ‘Order of Precedence’ of the declared ceremonial order of the State. The record of his early career show many facets in his life which have added up to making him a unique personality in the world politics today. He hails from a family migrated to US from Italy in 1899. A keen sportsman in school he has played forward in the basketball team before he joined the US military academy and served in the US Army between 1986 to 1991 where he rose to the rank of captain. Like many of his predecessors in the American Culture, he also graduated from the Harvard law school and has practiced as a lawyer attached to a Law Firm. He entered politics in 2010 as a Republican and became an elected representative of the Kansas District Congress seat until he was appointed as the Director of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) in 2017. From this position he was elevated to his current status as the Secretary of State in 2018 by President Donald Trump.

It is an admissible fact that when a person holds high positions particularly in the CIA demanding intervention in international affairs, there is a tendency and a possibility to have many fingers pointed accusingly. Nevertheless, Mike’s stand on the Myanmar Rohingya Muslims and his stance regarding the ISIS show his concerns related to human issues. Some of his sometimes highly criticized controversial involvements in certain instances apart, we have to recognize the role he is compelled to play to sustain the powerful image of the country he represents. Be that as it may, the period of his arrival visit is marked with several significant underlying factors politically as well as nature’s hazards on humanity.

He comes from the country which is worst affected due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The latest reported status is as follows;

The current COVID-19 situation

Data reported to WHO in the last 24 hours. Latest update: 26 October 2020, 09:36 pm GMT+5:30.

82 626 New cases; 8 485 747 Confirmed cases; 223 328 Confirmed deaths;

Extremely serious not only for his country but to the entire world. US is also on the verge of holding the biggest election in the Country to elect the next American President. Mike’s finding time to get out of the country in such a situation makes us think how important this visit to this region, (IOR) is, for his country.

The economic impact his country is facing is enormous. According to WB and IMF reports, the real US GDP has declined by a record of 32.9% in the second quarter of 2020.To make things more clear I wish to quote from the report of the World Bank Global Economic Prospects – released in June 2020;

United States

The domestic COVID-19 outbreak and associated large-scale pandemic-control measures have massively disrupted activity. High-frequency service sector indicators point to an unprecedented collapse, especially for services and travel. Compared to the global financial crisis, weekly unemployment claims have risen much faster, while industrial production and retail sales have fallen much more sharply. Meanwhile, the collapse in oil prices has depressed investment in the highly leveraged U.S. shale oil sector. The Federal Reserve has cut rates to near-zero, and announced far-reaching measures to stabilize the financial system. The latter include unlimited purchases of U.S. government debt and mortgage-backed obligations, as well as large-scale purchases of corporate bonds and of securities issued by lower levels of government. The U.S. government has also provided fiscal support approaching $3 trillion, including over $1 trillion in loans to firms and to state and local governments. Further measures, such as another round of direct transfers to households, are under consideration.”

No further elaboration is necessary to indicate the devastative and grave impact of the Corona Virus epidemic on the US.

The 2021 rebound forecast figures too are not so promising for the US economy besides the unpredictability of even those projections due to the unforeseeable future of the disease.

It is no secret that there is an open trade war between  the two giant  World powers, US and China, now on going. The geo-political ramifications now prevalent in the Indian Ocean Region  too are no more state secrets. China has advanced in leaps and bounds encompassing 53 countries stretching from the Mediterranean (Red Seas) across nearly two thirds of the Eurasian continent extending to the Pacific Ocean. There is a fast developing infrastructure investment plan in place under the proposed Belt and Road initiative led by China. A new silk road era is in the offing to which several governments in the region have pledged  support to commit trillions of dollars during the next decade to complete the worlds’ largest population connectivity program which would taper into a constellation of commerce and cultural exchange. This is a program conceived and launched in Asia led by Asians.

Naturally the big powers and their associates will be seriously concerned about these developments. And in the process there will be a heavy focus  on the highly strategic locations in the region. We are beginning to see the mushroom effects of such concerns. The renaming of the IOR as Indo-pacific region, the birth of Free and Open Indo –Pacific concept to create an ‘open indo-pacific corridor’, efforts taken to enter into Strategic agreements with several countries in the Asian region appear as the manifestations of this focus.

WE are no doubt a small Island nation which will attract the attention under all these formations. As it is known we have maintained our neutrality and today “among the Free Nations Sri Lanka is one”. We seek to see the world settling their disputes by agreement rather than by force. The Asian concept is something that is not easy to disregard owing to our geographical and cultural closeness. Some of our close associates in the region have had long historical links and relations with us starting from thousands of years before. Our concerns are to continue this highly respected position of our independency and dynamic neutrality maintaining the unity and harmony in the Asian Region as a prime consideration.

WE begin to worry when big powers clash and impose sanctions on each other. We worry more when we find that some of the sanctions are directed at some nations whom we are close to in our free and independent transactions. We realize the inevitability of international politics. But our wish is to remain as a country free from any unintended consequences. To that extent we are compelled to play safe and keep committed to beneficial strategies as a country. We wish and expect the powers that be to advocate flexible responses in place of massive retaliations in their confrontations. In our well respected concerns about our vision in the foreign policy we urged the rest of the world to march towards a restriction of nuclear weapons into the Indian Ocean  and to close its ports and airfields to ships and aircraft which either carry nuclear weapons or are equipped for nuclear warfare and also prohibit overflights of crafts thus equipped.

It will not be difficult for Mike Pompeo to understand our cultural background. Our national interests are closely linked to safeguarding our historical values. The religious dignitaries of our country are highly respected and play a key and dynamic role in all spheres of the lives of our people. Governments in power are obliged to listen to their advice and guidance. This has happened from time immemorial coming from our monarchial rulers. When they express an opinion people demand due consideration of such by the governments.

We passed through a period recently when the US insisted on entering into certain strategic bilateral agreements which certainly would impact our freedom and independence. There was serious opposition centered round those propositions which included signing of agreements with involved military strategies. When the last government was under some kind of pressure to enter into a SOFA agreement with US the highest echelons of our clergy from all sectors vehemently opposed and called upon the government to abandon those. On 31st march 2019, the highest order of  Buddhist prelates congregated at the Asgiriya Maha Vihara Temple premises with His eminence the cardinal of the catholic church and issued a public statement calling upon the government not to enter into any binding strategic international agreement without the concurrence of the parliament of Sri Lanka. The religious prelates were well aware of the mechanisms provided under such programs to table the agreements before the parliament after signing them. They categorically emphasized the inadequacy of this provision in a context of the need to paying full attention to the clauses in those agreements before committing agreement.

We are not aware whether the State Secretary has been properly briefed about these matters. When the MCC issue cropped up the then President of the country expressed reservations and cancelled the scheduled signing of the relevant agreement. It was highly   hilarious to note that one of the excuses given to justify the signing of the MCC compact was to state that the Compact program has been developed on Sri Lanka’s needs! Well then why should the US object when that need is disputed by the recipient himself. WE need assistance and specially grants oriented towards development activities. But when there is an element of doubt whether such grants are with adverse strings attached disadvantageous in the long run why should someone resort to strong arm tactics to force it down?

US is our main trading partner. We have a very positive balance of trade with US. WE cherish it from a commercial point of view. Besides US is the biggest economy in the world today. WE need to keep our associations on going and undisturbed. To that extent let us look at their needs.

Mike Pompeo is coming to our country via India our immediate neighbor and a great country which has been a birth place to the many Noble Philosophers this world ever produced. WE are lucky to have inherited those invaluable human values as our heritage. It would be appropriate to mention one graet humanitarian India produced in the recent past, Hon. Great man Mahatma Ghandi. He pronounced  non-   violence as the means of achieving ultimate peace. I will quote him in a political context relevant to all of us“for what appears to be the truth to one may appear to be error to the other. And patience means self- suffering. So the vindication of the truth , is not by infliction of suffering on the opponent but on one self.”

I wish to conclude my welcome to Mike by recalling one of his predecessors whose name has gone into human history. The context is self-explanatory, hence I leave no narration.

The United States is seeking a peace that heals. We have had many armistices in Indochina. We want a peace that will last…therefore it is our firm intention in our relationship to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam to move from hostility to normalization, and from normalization to conciliation and cooperation. And we believe that under conditions of peace we can contribute throughout Indochina to a realization of the humane aspirations of all the people of Indochina. And we will, in that spirit, perform our traditional role of helping people realize these aspirations in peace.”

For this apparent resolution of the Vietnam conflict, Kissinger shared the 1973 Nobel Prize for Peace with Le Duc Tho (who refused the honour).

After the Arab-Israeli War of 1973 (see Yom Kippur War), Kissinger used what came to be called shuttle diplomacy in disengaging the opposing armies and promoting a truce between the belligerents. He was responsible for the resumption of diplomatic relations between Egypt and the United States, severed since 1967. He remained in office after Nixon’s resignation in 1974, directing the conduct of foreign affairs under President Ford. After leaving office in 1977, Kissinger became an international consultant, writer, and lecturer. In 1983 President Ronald W. Reagan appointed him to head a national commission on Central America. In the 1980s he also served on the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and the Commission on Integrated Long-Term Strategy.

With this reminder, I wish you all the  best Mr.Mike Pompeo , our new State Secretary whom we look up to think like your predecessor, the great Noble Prize winning humanitarian.

May you be blessed.

The 20A is a US diplomatic machination orchestrated by the US Ambassador in Colombo!
The “mystery author” of the 20A is revealed by none other than the US State Secretary Mike Pompeo!
Less than two hours after his arrival in Sri Lanka, Pompeo tweeted that he is proud of the work done by the US Embassy. What special work did they do? He is referring to 20A, what else?
One might recall that in 2015, Barack Obama, John Kerry and Susan Rice officially revealed their direct involvement in regime change in Sri Lanka. The same way as Pompeo, the then State Secretary John Kerry visited Sri Lanka to thank the then US Ambassador personally.
Pompeo’s visit to India was only to conceal the true purpose of his visit to Sri Lanka. A two-day official visit by a US State Secretary to our most strategically located country in South Asia attaches a huge importance to the US government.
Similarly, the carefully designed US plan to field “Gotabhaya for Presidency from patriots’ side,” the 20A was also a meticulously orchestrated conspiracy to give unprecedented powers to their citizen, Gotabhaya.
As the 20A is yet to receive the Speaker’s signature, I strongly urge Maha Sangha and the Sinhalese people to act fast to defeat this.

By the time my comments are published, Mike Pompeo and his COVID-19 delegation have left. I bet he has changed his speech after seeing the strong opposition of prominent Buddhist monks against his visit.
We have no clue about his “verbal agreements” with Gotabhaya on SOFA and MCCA, and we should not forget that it was Gotabhaya who secretly signed ACCA in 2007 for 10 years.
The 20A drafted by the US Embassy, which was passed hurriedly with the dual citizenship clause prior to Pompeo’s visit, was to legalize Gotabhaya’s loyalty to the US in order to prioritize American interests.
The speech of Mike Pompeo carries a number of concealed threats and sugar-coated dictating terms along with some attempts to please “Sri Lankan Kalu Suddas.” His multi-front attack on China is an insult to Sri Lanka. I hope to share my opinion about his speech once it is published on CT.
I wish to reiterate the fact that the 20A drafted by the US Embassy is inimical to our sovereignty. We should use our strongest force and consider it a national task to prevent the Speaker signing it.

please get your head examined. You fantastic conspiracy theories are very entertaining. But I fear you have lost your marbles. A good psychiatrist may be able to help you but it is possible you may be even beyond such help.

There are a lot of nut jobs on this site. but you seem to be the worst case,

Actually I have been looking for Wimal for the last few days. I wanted to support his protest. He is nowhere to be seen.

Like Zeng Hi has Pompeo dragged Champa’s windbag Weerawansa all the way to Guantanamo Bay? Once in there is no way he can get out the prison.

The Sri Lankan government should reveal the real truth behind Pompeo’s visit.
Pompeo has signed a military pact with India, called “Basic Exchange and Cooperation Act (BECA)” to share top secret satellite and sensor data. This is insignificant compared to SOFA and MCCA.
The final paragraph of an article published by Al Jazeera titled “Pompeo Invoked China Threat as India, US Sign Satellite Data Pact” which states that, “US President Donald Trump has made being tough on China a key part of his campaign to secure a second term in next week’s presidential election,” SAYS IT ALL.
It is evident that Pompeo is here to sign the modern day colonial agreements; SOFA and MCCA, before the US presidential election to conquer Sinhalese and destroy our region.
There are times when foreign invasions are out of a country’s control. Take colonization, for example; we did not want to be colonized, but despite our ancestors’ best efforts, colonizers took over. The current situation with the United States is vastly different as WE are the ones inviting the US!!! Unlike our history, this situation is one that is “chosen by our non-Sinhalese, non-Buddhist traitorous President” and one that CAN BE and SHOULD BE STOPPED using our maximum strength.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa betrayed the Sri Lankan Army and all those serving, served, wounded, disabled and fallen war heroes by inviting the US State Secretary Mike Pompeo who labelled our war heroes, war criminals.
Not long ago, Mike Pompeo even banned Sri Lanka’s utterly adored current Army Commander Shavendra Silva from visiting the States.
        Shame on you, President!
You are not fit to be our President!
You have no legal, moral or ethical right to hold the high office, after you KILLED a drug kingpin in cold blood a day before the 20A Vote to convey a death warning to Parliament, INTIMATED the Sinhalese MPS and BRIBED the Muslim MPs to pass the 20A with the dual citizenship clause for your sole benefit.
The Sinhalese Buddhist people elected you believing that you have renounced your American citizenship. Now that you have automatically become a dual citizen with the 20A, you have breached the trust the Sinhalese Buddhist people have placed on you and compromised your loyalty to Sri Lanka, so you should no longer be Sri Lanka’s elected President.
You should resign, as the Sinhalese Buddhist people DID NOT elect a dual citizen as their President!!!!

Really, you need to read up on your history.
Didn’t the Kandyan chiefs invite the British to get rid of their own king? Before that, one king invited the Dutch to remove the Portuguese. And don’t forget that the Portuguese too were here by permission. So what’s new?

I expected this question. We never invited Portuguese, Dutch, Danes or the British.
1)Portuguese came following Vasco de Gama’s discovery of a sea route from Europe to the Far East India in 1498. It was Dom Lourenço de Almeida, the son of the first Portuguese viceroy of India who discovered the famous island of Sinhale (Ceilao) “by chance.”
2)Dutch ships first arrived in Sinhale under Captain Joris van Spielberg in 1602 to discuss a trade agreement with King Vimaladharmasuriya.
3)The first ship which arrived at the Gokanna Port (Trincomalee) was a Danish ship under Captain Roelant Crape followed by a small Danish fleet belonging to the Danish East India Company under the command of Ove Giedde.
4)The first British ship, which was on its way to India, under the command of Robert Knox was brought ashore at Kekatiyaya-ara, by storm. (The Bay of aquatic plant Kekatiyaa, became Koti-a-aara and now Koddiyar Bay.)
When Holland came under French in 1794, the British in India started moving to Sinhale (Zeylan). In 1796, the Dutch Governor handed over coastal areas to the British to prevent a French invasion of Dutch colonies. In 1802, the British occupied coastal areas by a Treaty signed at Amiens, France and in 1803, made a futile attempt to capture Kandy.

Careful, Kamal, Shavendra …. 15,000 single handed generals, … 400,000 Ranaviruses are watching you.

At the start of the Pandemic Kamal grabbed 1000 body bags from ICRC. Do you know what happened to them?

Kamal and Shavendra boasted dealing with Corona was nothing compared with eliminating LTTE. Well it appears Corona might stay put for good. Gota must have thought it was easy to kill corona victims and bury them in body bags.

Don’t we have medical experts to advise and manage medical emergencies?

There was far too much politically inspired and slavish adulation of Gota and the military, as well as public gloating about other countries.

Nope. The majority Sinhalese are of native Yakkha origin. Interestingly, they are Govigamas. Name one Govigama Sinhalese Buddhist who betrayed the country?
The Kandyan Nilames who signed the Kandyan Convention are Bathgama people, not Govigama.
What difference? All the difference, buddy, all the difference.

Where do you think your ancestors came from, Erivirar Pattinam?
South Indian mercenaries (Velaikkarar) were recruited from Erivirar Pattinams.
                PS
                Mercenaries (Velaikkarar):
Erivirar (Warriors who were adept in throwing javelins, etc.),
                Munaivirar (the Vanguard),
Ilamsink -virar (Warriors with the valour of young lions),
Konkavalar (Swordsmen of the Kongu country),
                Mummu:ri-danda (Three-fold Army)
                and the well known Velaikkarar.
Like the Velaikkarar, probably the others were also mercenaries.

My ancestors are native Yakkhas. They were born, bred and died here.
Our real history will soon be revealed once all the reborn Yakkhas meet and have a “Yakkha Symposium” as done in Lord Buddha’s time.
One thing I want to mention here is that, there are reborn Gandhabbas, Kumbhandas and Nagas too. It is just a matter of time before someone calls a meeting of all the 4 native groups.

You know that I don’t ever try to drag you down. How can you be sure that some ( I should imagine many ) of your ancestors, millennia ago, would have been Cholas, Malabaris, etc.
                  .
It may be that those identities didn’t exist, but those groups, and us Sinhalese, had common ancestors.
                  .
This, to me, is common sense. Homo Sapiens may not have evolved from any ape to be now found ( that is the reductio ad absurdum to which some reduce argument on the subject ) but all our ancestors couldn’t possibly have evolved from the “missing link” in Sri Lanka.
                  .
I’m tired, and my writing may not here be elegant, but I’m telling you this because the subject is too weighty to be put off.
generations only such ancestor-myths as will not disturb the harmony that we desire in this land.

Hullo Champa, are you off your rocker? Do you think that the US really gives two hoots about Sri Lanka and its 20A? You must be one of those ‘severe patriots’ who sees nothing other than conspiracies to destroy our largely mythical ‘2500 year old culture’ and somehow thinks the whole world is queuing up to come to Sri Lanka. Let me enlighten you that 99% of the population of the US would have never heard of Sri Lanka or would barely be aware of its existence. In such a context, the US will do what it wants, as seen by the massive C17 air freighter that landed and sent trucks filled with god knows what to the US consulate. You will not know what hit you from the US whilst the chinese are still scraping the sand to ‘reclaim’ the Port City – there is nothing you can do to stop it. You could perhaps migrate to China if this is hard to stomach.

Hello Walter ‘William’ Bagehot, Contrary to your belief, the US is very much interested in Sri Lanka. It officially began in “2012.” It is apparent that you know nothing about their involvement in the regime change in 2015 in Sri Lanka and their State Department’s budget allocations to make a “democratic change in Sri Lanka.” Check the archives and read official statements made by Barack Obama, John Kelly and Susan Rice as proof of my assertion.
Of course I know what they are doing in Sri Lanka. That is why I said in my comment posted to Jehan Perera’s article that, “The government’s unbelievably meticulous details of the spread of the second corona wave, methodical testing, wide publicity and even allowing at-home quarantine for first time COVID19 patients, which they refused for months, are proof that the second wave was pre-planned by an expert hand.”
It is the US which is behind the fake second corona wave in Sri Lanka to facilitate the President to impose corona curfews and restrict people to homes so that nobody would see what they were doing.
Re: American population; the opinion of the world is that they are bravely stupid. Their technologies are not original. They are using our ancestors’ knowledge.

World’s number one human butcher USA. Millions of unarmed innocent Vietnamese killed by the USA army. First, they wiped out Red Indians. Wiped out the Hawai Kingdom also. In each and every corner of the world, real trouble makers are the USA. Every continent these human butchers are very active by hook and crook.

“World’s number one human butcher USA. Millions of unarmed innocent”

Don’t you know Us is number two now as Sinhala Lanka has taken the first spot in the world in killing innocent People. Thousands of Tamil refugees/ displaced persons including children, women , elderly and disabled Tamil civilians were massacred by the cowardly Sinhala army and have now taken the top stop in the world for carrying out genocide and ethnic cleansing.

    Mr. Rusiri,
Are you for or against the MCC? You have produced a lot of smoke in your article, including unnecessary hagiography of G.L Pieris and a career description of Mr.Pompeo, but seem to be sitting on the fence awaiting the final decision by the Saviour of the Nation.

By the way where are those smart patriots?
Did Dinesh Gunawardana order an invasive search of Pompeo at the immigration counter as a tit for tat protocol?
Actually I wanted to join Wimal’s protest.
Unfortunately I could not find him anywhere on earth.

I wonder why Shavendra Silva missed the chance to challenge Pompeo’s decision to ban him from entering USA.

“Welcome”??????. I bet I saw you in front of US embassy holding “HANDS OFF,we are a sovereign(pseudo) nation” placard. Anyway Rusiri, India has signed all kind of pacts with US, so that China has to rethink before bullying. So for now, Lanka has to make some hard and not so painful decisions.

Pompeo’s only interest is the USA and his advancement within its Government. You cannot trust any of these politicians whoever they might be. As a former CIA Director here is his admission to lying, cheating, thieving. https://www.newsweek.com/china-responds-iran-us-spies-1450789

      Dear Stanley:
Are undercover intelligence operations possible entirely without lying, cheating, thieving, break-and-enter…?

In Sri Lanka, particularly during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidency and now Gotabaya’s presidency, GOSL’s intelligence folks are known to be out in the community openly bullying and intimidating civilians; one can imagine their capacity for high crimes when undercover.

Buddhist Sinhala do not want to share the power with its own citizens but to share this land with China, USA and India. So, they have to face whatever these three super powers do to destroy this island. There should be a limit for the greediness of Buddhist Sinhala Fundamentalists who are used by American Buddhist Sinhala Rajapakse family.

Absolute rubbish! I don’t see connection, in inviting a US envoy, this guy spent time on describing American Covid 19 infection, while accepting donations from America for Corona infection and used the garment factories to make and send Mask to America. What a cheap, gimmick, naive attack on America. He says his government invited the US State Secretary. Poor spinning! Only two days ago Aanduwa came out with that inventive statement that is was inviting Mike Pompeo, but he went to India to sign a deal that was being negotiated for last 10 years, from Ambassador Robert Blake. Under that deal US can use any time Indian military resources to defend or launch a fight. America seems to have conceived it after Lankawe sold Hangbangtota to China but refused to lease Trinco to America. Now America has many times the power more than it could have had with Trinco. The Lankawe Dumbs thinking writing an essay of Covid 19 like this they can scare and chase US away from Indian Ocean. But they still are planning to take on India. In future, the American forces that are standing on Indian land are going to see The Wildlife Sanctuary, the China’s Hong Kong II, as also its enemy. So, next Paripu delivery is by slick Eagle F-15. Watch out Tennakoon!

If only the Sinhala Politicians had made all three languages as official Languages and did not encourage religious and ethnic divisions, we would NOT be in this predicament. We wouldn’t have beg for loans from China or rest of the world. We would have been a well developed Country. Going against your neighbour and USA is not a wise thing to do

      Naman,
“If only the Sinhala Politicians had made all three languages as official Languages and did not encourage religious and ethnic divisions, we would NOT be in this predicament.”
      —-
This is the dumb argument put forward by Demalu (aka Tamils) to put the blame on Sinhalayo for what went wrong in this country. Ethnic division was created by racist separatist SJV Chelvanayakam and GG Ponnambalam. Chelvanayakam who was born in Malaya and entered Sinhale during British rule illegally laid the foundation to ethnic division by forming the Federal Party in 1949. In 1949, there were no discrimination against Demalu. In fact, at that time Malabar Vellala Demalu ruled the country oppressing and discriminating Sinhalayo who are the Native people. Ponnambalam told Demala Government Officers who were dominating the Administration not to learn Sinhala. So we had Demala Administrators, Doctors, Engineers, Agriculturalists and Judges who could not communicate with Sinhalayo.

Sinhala politicians made a blunder by not deporting Chelvanayakam and Ponnambalam.
Even now the Government is making a blunder by not taking action against Demala politicians who supported separatism for violating the Constitution. The Government should strip off their civil rights and confiscate their movable and immovable property.

I was shocked to see the tweet of Chinese Ambassador re: Predator Games between USA and China. What an uncivilized comment! Are the Rajapakses members of the Chinese Community Party or is Sri Lanka a Colony of China for the Ambassador to make such a low grade, unambassadorial comment? Sri Lanka can meet with anyone, it has nothing to do with China. If the Ambassador had to make a comment about US Secretary’s visit he should have done so in a diplomatic manner. This shows the class and the upbringing of the Ambassador. The Secretary is a Honored Guest of Sri Lanka that too a Sinhala Buddhist Country which is supposed to be living as per the teachings of Lord Buddha. He should have not been attacked in this manner that too including the name of Sri Lanka in the comment.

Will the Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunewardena have the guts to call the Chinese Ambassador to his office and ask for an explanation and an apology or will he call him and ask for Chinese Communist Party Membership, if he is not one yet.

      Dear Buddhist1:
My sentiments exactly. But wasn’t shocked that China’s ambassador made such a “low grade, unambassadorial” statement. It’s their usual defensive language which is often void of any intelligent attempt to counter and support their claimed motives.
They have put out far worse statements and propaganda against their opponents.

Pompeo may be of different league but the markets seems to be listening to him. Our govt bonds fell heavily after him addressing “the Chinese Communist Party as a predator”. Our bonds have lost up to 40% of their face value, this year after the downgrading by Credit Agencies. This Wednesday falls saw its $ denominated bonds shed another 5%, mean while 2025,26,27 and 28 , all bonds dropped to the 55 cents on the $ threshold. The deputy Editor may have his own views/compliments but Washington Post endorsed BIDEN for president, which again is a first time, where they have gone with a democrat. By the way what ever inappropriate Pompeo uttered is not that far from what the Chinese Ambassador to Lanka said.
