Munafiqun Within Muslim Leadership

By Ameer Ali

Dr. Ameer Ali

The Quranic term munafiqun is plural for munafiq or hypocrite, one of three categories of people mentioned in Muslim’s Holy scripture, which is read, memorized either entirely or partially and recited in parts during daily prayers and on other occasions. The other two categories are believers and non-unbelievers. On a rough count, almost in 100 verses, the Quran refers to and warn believers to beware of the machinations of hypocrites. Very early on in chapter two, the Quran says: “When it is said to them: “Make no mischief on earth, they say: Why we only want to make peace! Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realize it not. When it is said to them, “believe as the others believe”: They say: shall we believe as the fools believe?” Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know. When they meet those who believe, they say: “we believe”, but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: “We are really with you, we were only jesting”, … “These are they who have bartered guidance for error” (Quran, ch.2, verses 11-16).

I am neither a scholar in Quranic studies nor an alim or mufti to issue fatwas. Yet, I am left with no other term to call those Muslim leaders who had sold and brought shame to their community for personal profit and prestige, at a time when that community, in the hands of a new generation of men and women, has thrown itself whole heartedly to participate in the nationwide aragalaya and calling for an end to a regime that had bankrupted this country and betrayed its people. Never in the history of Sri Lanka so much had been lost in so short a time. The regime has no legitimacy to govern even a day longer.

Political summersaults and turncoats in parliament are not the monopoly of any community or religion. But when such behaviour is committed to protect a rotten status quo when almost an entire nation demands systemic change is unpardonable. The two Muslims who accepted ministerial positions from President GR should have known better that it was not sympathy towards Muslims but political expediency and chicanery to rope unprincipled individuals like the two into a cabinet in order to sustain a tottering regime. The so-called new cabinet with inexperienced members has not changed anything. It is old wine in a new bottle.

Even previously, these two were of the seven Muslim turncoats who voted for the 20th Amendment, which empowered GR to become what he is now, a virtual autocrat. It was revealed later that those dirty seven were given the green light by their respective party leaders to raise their hands in support of that amendment. One of those seven even confessed later that they were promised state ministries by Rajapaksas. This clearly exposes the hidden agenda of the two Muslim parties, SLMC and its breakaway ACMC. These parties opiated Muslim voters with Islam for the sake of gaining political power and influence. Now, two from that black sheep company had done a summersault again. Is it wrong to call them munafiqun?

This is not to dub all Muslim leaders as hypocrites. There were in the past and there are at present a few really praiseworthy ones with total dedication to the welfare and progress of the country and community. Their loyalty to the party they represent, their sense of patriotism and commitment to serve all communities stand majestically tall in comparison to the disreputable record of a bunch of self-seeking parvenus who, like the biblical Judas are prepared to sell their community for a few silvers.

What is more shocking than the treachery of these hypocrites is the silence of Muslim religious organization like ACJU and the National Shura Council. There was no condemnation of this behaviour from either of them. Was their silence meant to be an endorsement? Or, are they afraid of vengeful reprisals from Gotacracy?

Ultimately, the buck stops with the community that elected these leaders. Like the Sinhalese Buddhists who were hallucinated by SLPP’s ethno-nationalist campaign, Muslims too were deceived by the religious politics of SLMC and ACMC. If there is one lesson to be learnt from today’s raging aragalaya it is the awakening of a new generation with a determination not to fall prey to sectarian politics again. Over seven decades of sectarianism had destroyed the peace and prosperity of this country. It is time for its Muslim counterpart to take control of its own community’s politics and sweep away the turncoats into history’s dustbin.

In general, Muslims are pretty good at whatever they choose to do. Unlike some who I will not name, they don’t clamour for cushy state jobs. They are born businessmen who will prosper on the slimmest of margins, which is why many “Welanda Sangamayas” around the country keep them out.
I think the Muslim attitude to politics is similar. Principles are secondary to profit.
I also think that many Sinhala politicians have learnt from the canny Muslims.
The real test of the sincerity of those now clamouring to amend the constitution is their willingness to ban political crossovers altogether. Let’s see.

“The real test of the sincerity of those now clamouring to amend the constitution is their willingness to ban political crossovers altogether.”
The level of opportunism played by politicians and religious leadership are much greater than any other group because people have no clear understanding of politics or religion. This makes politicians and religious leadership to misuse both politics and religion to their advantage. Unless the people realise that they have to play a key role in politics and religion you cannot expect that politicians and religions will never ban political crossovers.
There is a great opportunity for people now to make changes to the constitution that are necessary to limit the opportunism.

Cross over ritual was banned in the 1978 constitution.
However within a short period of time JR reversed it to enhance his dictatorship of the majority.

      Dear OC,
      .
let me add few things to it. It should be SRILANKEN MUSLIMS. I have worked with muslims from North Africa – I would not say they are good at whatever they choose to do.
      .
I believe business and trade sector – srilanken muslims are the champions. If any sinhalayas would touch it – they should be either black markerteers such as MaRa s henchmen, that were appointed to invest his looted state funds or few men like Dhammika Perera.
      .
      Examples:
Derana TV owner – You know who he is and how the bugger et al fished on muddy waters also at the time over 16k were caught by COVID deaths. Not state TV channels, but Derana TV became number one main TV channels – all because mlechcha Rajapakshes looted not only state but also the average mindset.

Mariott Hotel Dubai – the owner is a Rajapakshe backpleaser, not a professional but a man who washed plates at his begining in Dubai, but his secret links to MR is a known fact.
      .
      Uganda Rajapakshe Investments
Uganda – Kampala s diplomacy with SL came into being, through secret ties made by Rajapakshes. Why Uganda ?

“Muslims are pretty good at whatever they choose to do”.
You mean they are good pretending to be victims of non existent “Sinhala racism”, getting away with Easter Sunday carnage, destroying Buddhist archeological sites, sterilising Sinhala mothers, etc, etc, etc.

Some muslim srilankens are born to be slaves/. That is why it s becoming clearer today than anytime in the past. This is part and parcel of sl politics/ Ali Sabry – if he did his job as a real lawyer in compliance with his approbation/ Gota would nt have been where he is today🤔🤔. In a country where judiciary is fallen that deep with numerous shortcomings what justice we can talk? However it s a tremendous progress to see that lawyer community supporting the youth strongly as of today.
Betraying is also not uncommon with our race too.
No different with Tamil srilankens such as Douglus/ Arun and the like cheap men/ this being the truth about srilanken politicians/it s easy to evolve Rajapakshes or the like high criminals be their leaders. Now it s too late to criticise. MAY OUR YOUTH BE EVEN MORE STRONGER in order TO KEEP THE LAW AND ORDER it’s due place- all these men deserve public execution/ no doubt about
that/ why not think about such events than pompous Independence Day celebrations 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Perhaps it is not widely known that the Jarapassas hailed from Javan exiles (or convicts) who beached at Weeraketiya/Weligama, originally apprenticing as cattle thieves before cannily entering and then taking crooked, murderous politics to its peak that we see today.

Scum and rotters such as Weerawansa also hailed from this stock, shedding the original Weerabangsa name for political expediency.

      See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vgv844p3eE

Having said that, we revere all those decent Malays and Moors who live amongst other Sri Lankans of all shades and persuasions like good (albeit suffering) citizens today.

      What is ‘Sangha Order’.?
Who can issue a ‘Sangha Order’.?

What I find interesting is a letter then written by senior Rajapaksa to his son Chamal , prior to joining the police force, advising him to be responsible and not to do anything which could tarnish their family reputation. And now, we have bunch of criminals, corrupted, power thirsty, off springs, who the people are calling as Mafia Family. Irony is that these rogues embezzled public property and funds to built a museum honoring their late father. It is time we include some of the verses from the Holy Quran, into our constitution.

So I kind of undervalued the importance of marketing. That is until I saw what the British are doing. Let me just lay out something. This is not a conspiracy theory. The British are hoarding the entire cultural wealth of this country. The entire knowledgebase that makes this a civilisation do not exist at the Colombo Meusuem or in the Sri Lankan universities. The ancient manuscripts are housed in 16 rooms in a building someowhere in UK. The Queen of Engliand refuses to hand it back. Now, this is key to what this country is as a nation. The imporance of marketing is as follows. When we write to the “Island” newspaper on this subject it does not get published. Although what gets published are articles of the nature “A Queen Unmatched” that appears now in their features section. I like to know what the heck is going on! Is someone paying for this such that one article appears and the other does not? Is there some kind of marketing going on that we don’t know of?

      Jambu dear,
“The British are hoarding the entire cultural wealth of this country ….. 16 rooms in a building someowhere in UK “
There are some who might say that you don’t need 16 rooms to keep truly indigenous culture. Our indigenous mathematics, astronomy, chemistry, geographical knowledge, popular literature, music, might fit into a shoe-box. Doesn’t at least the fact that we are bankrupt indicate to you that this may not be the centre of the Universe?

I cant start again at this hour, but will just type the final sentences which will hang in the air a bit lost without the intro.

Re “hoarding the entire cultural wealth” perhaps u might find “Imperialism & Archaeology” by A. Gidiri in “Race”, Jnl of the Inst.of Race Relations (London), April 1974, of some interest. The Inst. was founded by SL librarian Ambalavanar Sivanandan.
Sme years later, Swedish writer, etc., Jan Myrdal, introduced a Swedish collection of the same author’s writings on the subject — “Arkeologi & Imperialism”.

I think I know the mss you refer to but 16 rooms full!!!! ??? Taken by HW? His name eludes me right now.

“Race subsequently became “Race and Class”.
Siva was yet another example of a brilliant Sri Lankan, lost to this country as a result of communalism. His home in Wellawatte was attacked in the first big race riots of the 50s. He was a banker, but became a librarian and writer & founded an important journal.

These Muslim leaders have been disappointing right throughout these past few years. Even when the saffron robed terrorist spread fear and urged mobs to hate Muslims and attack them, no Muslim leader took the risk and condemned these crimes. They were too selfish and self absorbed, and wanted to cling to their miserable appointments, rather than speak up for their people. The best speeches in parliament we heard during this time, condemning these racist attacks, came from some of the Tamil Ministers.

Muslim refugees from Hindusthan who were saved by Sinhala Buddhists when they faced persecution by Portuguese and allowed to settle down in Sinhale have been hypocrites and opportunists.
During British rule, Muslims took the side of Brits and helped Brits to oppress Sinhala Buddhists. In 1915, Muslims started the anti-Sinhala riot at Gampola and provided the opportunity for British to massacre hundreds of Sinhala Buddhists. Muslims who worked as spies helped Brits to capture Sinhala leaders who gave leadership for anti-British uprisings.

Munafiqun are not unique to a race, ethnicity, religion, language or colour. Hypocrisy is a personal trait, developed by a person, influenced by many factors such as bringing up, society, environment and prevailing culture, personal motivations, etc.
Leaders who sell and bring shame to their community belong to all shades in our 74 years of post-independence history. They were hoodwinking the voters for too long without them being singled out and penalized for their actions at the elections. Mostly the time is on the side of hypocrites. What is happening now with the current leaders is that the time has run out for them.
Let’s expose all these hypocrites without bias and make them accountable for their actions.

He is trying hard to be someone he is not: he sounds so hollow. His only claim to leadership is, he is Premadasa’s son: no merits of his own. How more crazy can things get? …….. Got to hand it to Mahinda, he is a better actor than most; it starts with the tone of his voice ……. :))

Sajith has lied about his qualifications ……. leaders can’t start off with lies about basic things.

We all lie to gals (not as much as Old Codger! …. Ramona is just putty in his hands!) ….. and they to us …… but that’s a different thang ……..

Premadasas are the UNP version of the Rajapakses. Premadasa Snr. was a murderer and a land grabber; people forget now ……….

That’s why protesters demand a clean slate ……… hard to disagree with them ………

            “working VHS camcorder”

They still have many floating around. I don’t know how but most of the best vintage HiFi gear has ended up in Eastern Europe and mostly in Russia.

I collect vintage HiFi gear …… mainly tube amplifiers. You can still source some rare vintage tubes, paper in oil capacitors and carbon resistors from Russia. Some years ago I found ultra rare and insanely expensive vintage PX25 tubes (and some other rare tubes) in a radio repair shop in Panchikawatte. A Burgher gent who was an engineer at Radio Ceylon alerted me to the place. I have the top of the range (back then) Sony VHS video player ……. it’s funny watching old videos on it (it has a feature to enhance the quality “reality regeneration.” ) It makes people look better than they really are. :)) If Native wants to look good, I can lend it to him! I also have some old reel to reel tape decks and a Nakamichi cassette deck RX-505 which physically pops the cassette out and reverses it. I don’t miss a step in my exercise routine to Anton Jones! :))

              Thanks but no thanks.
I am too busy to indulge in such mundane activities, (my partner can smell a rat from miles away) Therefore self preservation is far more important than vanity.
I do not want to end up like John Bobbitt (https://abcnews.go.com/US/25-years-cutting-off-husbands-penis-lorena-bobbitt/story?id=61017708).

Sinhala Intellectuals’ (Viyathmahas) Hypocrisy killed the country!
The biggest disadvantage of Langkang is the Hypocrisy of the Sinhala Intellectuals, the strange spices of the planet. They all believe that they are honest patriots, sent by Buddha to save Sinhala Buddhism. Other than this essay and the quote from Koran, one of the best said comments in CT was somebody wrote “If Ranil had not been born, the world would be better”. Ranil, the living soul of the hypocrisy on this earth, portrays him as Mr. Clean. He was the man who resigned with his government one year early to hand over the power to the Old Royals. The reason was, he explained, that a powerful man like Hitler King would keep the West the best away. Now he is saying that he can become the PM and save the country with the help of the IMF. Can Ranil explain that he, instead of going to Oxford to lecture on colonialism to British Students, why didn’t he go to IMF that time and save the country and his party, so Sinhalese would not have voted to Slap Party with 2/3 majority within the two-year birth of it, and no seat at all for UNP, the oldest party in the country? Why? The answer is that is the hypocrisy of the Sinhala Intellectuals and their venomous path they take.

When Yahapalanaya was in power, Valaiththodam, with all others, said the Presidency cannot be abolished (During 19A). Now he says he wants to become the PM, even without an election so he will abolish the EP. The only reason for this crooked swamp of winged termites coming out of their hills is the fear that if this protest abolishes the political culture of the country, then their elite power and the royalty will be in danger. That is why they are in a rush to protect and preserve the hypocritical political culture. UNPyers want to defeat the people’s protest, which is seeking a political cultural change of the country, in a subtle way, that they pretend they too are with the people. Ranil, during Yahapalanaya time, head to tail, uniformly, excused all kind of criminals of Slap Party in his impunity era. He went to Oxford university to tell how the Colonialist destroyed his country and left it as a bigger one, but Mao Tse Tung liberated it and freed his people and made his country prosperous.

It is the same Ranil paid to China $250 Million penalty on Colombo Pong Ching and $15 Million on Pahadu Tower, which is still not released by China. These all-in addition to the Hangbangtota sales with free 5 Villages land to China. Can Ranil say what he is planning to give China this time? This shameless clown was the one, when the West and India throned him after they engineered a regime change in 2015, he on the very first morning of he gained power, he went to Temple Tree House to save the Old Royals’ treasury. Then everybody knows what a hanky panky deal he did in the Central Bank with Ravi, Mahendran, and Aloysius. Come on Ranil, what did you do that? Isn’t that you wanted to keep the IMF and West away from Langkang, but only Chinese loans in. Can Ranil take your idea in detail and discuss it with protesters about how you are going to save the country this time instead of you secretly plotting inside the parliament against the people protesting?

If somebody who honestly starts to develop the country today, it will take another 75 years for the country to return where Britain left it in 1948, that is the Switzerland of the East. Don’t lie to the poor people that tomorrow you can make milk and honey to flow all over the country. Please let the people chase you all out and take the responsibility of Chinese loans. Please go to hell with your anti-West policies. So people can form a government and the foreign investments flow inside and bring an end to dollar shortage created by loans. These Chinese commission agents, the self-declared patriots, are now trying to disturb the people’ protest saying that the dead UNP can fix the country’s economic problem with a unity government with Royals. Ranil, Anura, Valaiththodam… all these hypocrites saying that the protest is people protest so they don’t want to take part. But the truth is not that. They have all for five decades fed the Army to kill people from people’s money if the people bother them while they comfortably sit on the couch and watch sports on TV.

The Army killed the Sinhala Youths, Genocide Tamils, then Muslims and now it wants to turn their focus back again on Sinhala Youths. All politicians share the responsibility for the Langkang Army blacklisted in UN as uses rape as weapon. Even the JVP’s leader Anura wants to preserve the army brutality and its amount maintained in the people’s budget. So, they all know that if they go to the road to protest against Royals, then the army will shoot, beat & kill them too. So they say that this is people protesting and they are not going to the road but going to parliament and other meeting places to plan that as soon as people oust the Royals, how to launch their new Royalty without any pain for them. The call for a unity government within them is not just to preserve the Langkang political culture, that is using racism to win elections and capture power and loot the government, but additionally from their anti-Tamil venom of these UNP-SLFP grandfathered political parties’ schemes to save the Royal from any international justice process. They are fearing that if the protestors form a people government, they may not show interest in protecting Royals from justice for their crimes. They all want the Royal to remain in some power to enjoy diplomatic immunity.

Basically, none of these parties have even an iota of interest to save the country from a deluge of economic chaos. Those who used Tamils’ pain to keep ruling the country, now have got an additional arm, the economic destruction, again it is the child of the anti-Tamil political schemes. At the height of Anti-Tamil propaganda, JR shamelessly said that if he starved Tamils, Sinhalese would be happy. The new proposal is not salvaging the country from the damage the UNP-SLFP created but saving the Royals’ and the political culture. If the protestors want these 75 years of Venom creating factory is to be saved, if the destructive murderous group saved by the secret schemes of the UNP-SLFP gang, give them a chance to form a national unity government. If you want to ensure the racist, piracy political culture to leave the country and the country to relish itself by the toil of its people, make sure all these 225 kleptocracy members and any related ones to them the last fifteen years, are facing a Nuremberg within the country.
What Valaiththodam and Ranil try to do is to while the termites dig the hole (Protesters sacrifice them to oust the royals) the snakes are trying to make it their home.

The range of the capacity of the Sinhala Intellectuals’ ability to destroy the country is unlimited. If the UNP- SLFP once again form a unity government by defeating the protestors, and if the protestors succumb to the tricks of the political parties and allow them to form a unity government to save the Royal from any legal processes, that will tell the country is over for the rest of the history. If this last of the people’s protest is not fixing the political culture of the country, that in turn will drive the final nail on the coffin for the country.
Protestors should win on their plight and form a people government.

If you waste your silver nitrate like that how you are going to draw your map. Does Deva sell catalysts too? Then the waste of silver nitrate to induce rain may not be that bad.
