Muslim Hating Ven. Gnanasara Thero

The death of a Sri Lankan in Syria, fighting with the IS (Islamic State or Caliphate) also known as ISIS has opened up a new front for extremist elements to target the Muslim community as terrorists or sympathizers of terrorism. Islam forbids taking of innocent lives, and the violence perpetrated by terrorists in the name of Islam is neither Islamic nor humane. Thus the irresponsible action of an individual should not be a reflection of a whole community, as Muslims have been a peaceful and patriotic community in Sri Lanka during their 1200-year history in the country.

Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena, the Bodu Janatha Peramuna (BJP) and candidate for the Kalutara District, has launched his political campaign by once again attacking and branding every Muslim as a terrorist. His clarion call for the Sinhalese to “wake up”, his ominous augury “Abasaranai” to the Muslims in Aluthgama and the hate speech on 15th of June 2014 that led to the riots against the Aluthgama Muslims destroyed the peace that existed between the two communities. Now, his verbal diatribe and racism meant to help him to step in to Parliament, seem to get more vicious and venomous as the symbol for his new party, the cobra. He has now condemned every Muslim Civil, Religious and Political organisation as sponsors of terrorism in Sri Lanka. The media reports of the death of a Sri Lankan following a twisted ideology while fighting with IS (ISIS) has given him the ammunition to call every Muslim a terrorist or sponsor of terrorism. Little does he realize that he is the one who has been unleashing terror against the Muslims and other minorities in Sri Lanka, making him a terrorist as per the definition provided in Wikipedia –Terrorism is commonly defined as violent acts (or the threat of violent acts) intended to create fear (terror), perpetrated for an economic, religious, political, or ideological goal, and which deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (e.g., neutral military personnel or civilians).

courtesy Foreign Correspondents' Association of Sri Lanka Facebook pageHis attempts to lay blame on IS or other Muslim extremist groups for the Aluthgama riots clearly exposes his complicity in the Aluthgama violence on June 15th 2014. His detestable oration was a provocative speech full of racist venom in which he asserted that the Police and military were Sinhala and that no Muslim or Tamil or anyone else could harm a Sinhalese and get away with it. “This country still has a Sinhalese Police, this country still has a Sinhalese Army. It will be the end of all if someone at least lays a finger on a Sinhalese”. And now he claims that extremist terrorists from abroad, including IS were behind the destruction of lives and livelihood in Aluthgama and Beruwela.

The IS is a group of terrorists and is a creation of non-Islamic states to destabilize the Middle East and its economy. Elimination of strong Muslim leaders such as Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi and the attempted removal of Assad from office are considered the precursor to their dreadful agenda. The IS is a serious threat to Islam and the group violates both Sharia law and humanitarian law. Islam is a religion of mercy, peace and tolerance that totally forbids taking of innocent lives. There is no theological basis for any crime to be committed through terrorism or violence.

The Muslims of Sri Lanka as well as Islamic scholars and Muslim leaders around the world have condemned without any reservation the IS and its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi for failing to respect key tenets of Islam.

The IS has attracted many volunteer fighters, both men and women from all over the world including the USA, Europe, Australia etc. They have joined the IS based on misguided ideology or as mercenaries for monetary and political incentives as large oil reserves in the Middle East are now in the control of the IS. Some of these fanatics have joined IS as part of their fighting force while others have joined humanitarian efforts to assist victims of war.

The Sri Lankan’s death adds another country to the list of nationalities joining this dreaded terrorist organisation. Regretfully, media reports of the first Sri Lankan killed in Syria has afforded the opportunity for racist elements like Ven. Ganansara Thero to rekindle the fear factor on Sri Lankans of a possible threat of terrorism again.

The BBS and Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnansara Thero are considered as the main reason for the defeat of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the January 2015 presidential elections. Now, he seems to unleash the same brand of racism to incite racial tensions amongst the different ethnic communities. Their entrance to Sri Lankan politics needs a platform slogan; the death of a Sri Lankan IS combatant has given him the opportunity to fire from all angles. Little does he realize that the majority of the Sinhala Buddhists did not fall for his racist rhetoric during the last presidential election. A repeat is expected on the 17th of August, 2015.

I think to blame every thing on buddhist extremism is wrong. The muslims have decided to behave with a herd mentality Cloathing , erection of mosques at every street corner with call for sala every few hours, communal behaviour on the part of the politicians who encourage a herd mentality, Kuragala and wilpattu are two standing examples have created this mayhem Blaming the priest is not the answer but for the muslims to internalise their religion so that the herd mentality of the muslims do not impact on the others. when one herd is created you induce herdism in the others. This mentality has create anti islamic sentiment in the whole world not only in sri lanka

Ghanasara is a mental case. Please look at the manner he holds his speeches on the public stages. Are there any politicians in th eocuntry today that show the aggresive nature of Ghanasara. His is unique to him. His tongues seems to have no control over the wording whatever being explained by him. First few minutes he behave as if he could be a saint, but ascending he switches his to aggressive tones as if not even high criminals would do. Buddhist organisations should boycott the kind of monks and their behaviours in public domain. If an amok runner is that harmful to a society, definintely, Ghanasara is dagnerous to anyone in this country regardless of the religious belief one bears.

By the way- Ghansara or MR intoxicated people, I am also born buddhist. But I respect only those who would respect the others regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or the like. So long we cant grasph then, you can wait many more years to see it becoming to peace state.

Vas, you are right. It is sad that most Muslims (note the key word being “most”) are mum about the ISIS horrific attacks against non-Muslims.

Where were they when BBS burnt Christian churches and assaulted Preachers/Pastors in remote areas of Sri Lanka? Like you say, it is the Muslims who introduced the “closed community”culture.

They scream blue-murder when a Muslim child is not admitted to a Christian school, but do they allow non-Muslims to be admitted to Muslim Ladies College or Zahira etc.?

To me Muslims are bigger hypocrites than any other race. They are not happy in their own Muslim countries, yet make the biggest ruckus in other countries if they are not allowed to do something “Islamic” saying they are racists.

        My Dear Citizen Silva

I have to tell you that Zahira College Colombo reserves 10% of it intake for non muslims. Unfortunately there are no takers because you guys feel that your children will come to learn the true religion and convert. So, dont blame Muslims for it.

I cant believe that you are living in Sri lanka and saying Muslims dont condemn ISIS. Only yesterday our ACJU (Your Mahanayake of all the chapters) made a clear statement condeming ISIS. They did the same thing 1 1/2 Years long before anyone else in the world condemned ISIS

Unlikely that anyone will come to believe in a man in the sky, most probably they fear marginalisation.

      Vas,

It is not an animal (belonging to a herd) that will erect a place of worship to show its love for its creator, mentor, sustainer. It is not an animal that will worship its creator five times a day. It is not an animal that will dress modestly, without exposing its privates to entice the opposite sex.

You, Vas, must be deaf and blind and completely devoid of grey matter.

Look around, it is the Sinhala Buddhist Community that is the herd.

Their most notable shepherds were S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike and Mahinda Rajapakse. And now, Gnanasara, the imbecile. Their shepherds directed them 50 years ago to stop studying English, and a Nation that could have been in the forefront of every aspect of progress, is drowning in the modern world today. Buddha’s great philosophy has been drowned out in the Theravadian idol worship. The real herd look on in envy when Muslims pray to their creator, a creator in every sense of the word.

The Sinhala Buddhist Community is a community that sells its soul for cheap rhetoric. Otherwise how does one explain, WHY a country endowed with nature’s bounties, and spared the horrors of extreme weather, is compelled to export its female population as domestic servants in order to financially stay afloat?

Listen to Anura Kumara’s recent speech. May be, just may be, then you will shed some of your characteristics as an equus asinus.

What can I say when you cannot even comprehend what a herd is. It is ignorance that causes conflicts. the inability to differentiate myth from reality and the Truth. The truth is Islam is creating unnecessary conflicts i the world because of their bigoted behaviour where they believe every one else’s religions are inferior. There will be many more Gnanasara Theros unless the muslims unless they learn to live in harmony with the rest of the population.

For once be honest. Look around in your neighborhood, and name one Muslim individual who has tried to do harm to you or your family.

That is the test for yourself. If you cannot find a harmful Muslim then please know that you too are a victim of Gnanasarite brainwashing.

Hey guys, if an opinion poll would have been called – almost everyone that listened to Ghanasara would agree with that they dont like the wording. But some would say, it is right that Muslims become more while buddhists have no population growth – and latter are bit scared to extinct the sinhala race from this island. my foot. all those who are born in this island are all srilankens should have equal rights. THat is what count to me and any right thinking buddhist.Ghanasara should be investigated and made exposed to the nation who is he actually. What kind of childhood the man had to be that aggressive like POlANGA. why cant he think twice before going to attack anyone ? Lately, I heard him attacking former President CBK – one can leave critics but to the manner he does must not be fallen. Everyone is humanbeing. I personally would not go and kneel down to the kind of monks. If the Siwura should be honroued, it is better to go to a shop and worship to sivurua alone: That has a greater sense than any guyy of criminal kind but wearing robes to count as monks should not be regarded as Sangaya.

Idiots like Robert R (probably a christian) who doesn’t understand the Sri Lankan history try to distort it. You dont have to even walk up to the library any more. keep sitting on your big bum and google, and you will have answers to your stupid question about the history of Muslims in Sri Lanka if you read below.

Sri Lanka (previously known as Ceylon) lies of the south-east of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The pear shaped island, often referred to as “the pearl of the east” is separated from mainland India by a narrow strip of water called the Palk Straits.

Being in such close proximity to and having such easy access from India, it might be expected that Sri Lanka received a large number of migrants from its neighbour from pre-historic times. The original inhabitants of the island are believd to be an aboriginal tribe called the Veddahs. The Sinhalese, presently the majority community, are supposed to be the descendants of the colonists, led by Vijaya, from the valley of the Ganges who settled in the island around the 6th century B.C. Sinhala, the language of the Sinhalese, is an Aryan language, closely related to Pali. Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka during the reign of King Devanampiya Tissa during the period 307-267 B.C.

Trade relations between India and Sri Lanka are traced to the 3rd century B.C. Historians have not been able to pin-point the actual date of establishment of Tamil settlements in Sri Lanka. However, during the 3rd century B.C. a Tamil General, Elara, set up a Tamil Kingdom at Anuradhapura, in the North Central Province, and ruled there for 44 years. He earned a reputation for his just and impartial administration among the Sinhalese and Tamils and was thus called “Elara the Just”.

The strategic location of the island, in the Indian Ocean, together with some of the coveted goods it produced, resulted in a fair degree of foreign trade even from ancient times. The Romans discovered the commercial value of Sri Lanka in the first century A.D. and the island was visited by Greeks, Romans, Persians, Arabs, and Chinese traders. Sri Lanka’s trade offering included Cinnamon, which grew wild in the forests of the wet zone, precious stones, pearls, elephants and ivory.

While most of the traders were only visitors to the island, who made their fortunes and left, it was the Arabs who settled down, making Ceylon their home. Furthermore as the Muslims of Sri lanka claim their desecndancy from the Arabs it is imprtant to look at the information available on the advent of the Arabs to the island.

      The Arabs:

The Tamils of Sri Lanka, throughout history, have attempted to categorize the Sri Lankan Muslims as belonging to the Tamil race. This has been mainly for selfish reasons in a bid to eliminate the minority Muslim community from having its own unique identity. The Government of Sri Lanka, however, treats the Muslims as of Arab origin and as a distinct ethnic group from the Tamils.

Fr. S.G. Perera in his book “History of Ceylon for Schools Vol. 1. The Portuguese and Dutch Periods, (1505-1796)”, Colombo (1955), The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd., p 16, writes,

“The first mention of Arabs in Ceylon appears to be in the Mahavansa (Ancient Sri Lankan history) account of the reign of the King Pandukabhaya, where it is stated that this king set apart land for the Yonas (Muslims) at Anuradhapura”

With the decline of the Roman Empire in the 3rd century A.D., Roman trade also died out and the Arabs and Persians filled up the vacuum; engaging in a rapidly growing inter-coastal trade. After the conquest of Persia (Iran), Syria and Egypt, the Arabs controlled all the important ports and trading stations between East and West. It is estimated that the Arabs had settled in Sri Lanka and Sumatra by the 1st century A.D. K.M. De Silvas, “Historical Survey, Sri Lanka – A Survey”, London (1977), C. Hurst & Co. Ltd., p 50, states,

“by about the 8th century A.D., the Arabs had formed colonies at the important ports of India, Ceylon and the East Indies. The presence of the Arabs at the ports of Ceylon is attested to by at least three inscriptions discovered at Colombo, Trincomalee and the island of Puliantivu”

The manner in which Islam developed in Sri lanka is very closely similar to that on the Malabar coast of India. Tradition has recorded that Arabs who had settled down on the Malabar coast used to travel from the port of Cranganore to Sri lanka on piligrimage to pay homage to the foot-print of Adam on the top of a montain, which, until today, is called Adams Peak.

Ibn Batuta, the famous 14th. century Arab traveller, has recorded many facets about early Arab influence in Sri lanka in his travelogues.

Before the end of the 7th. century, a colony of Muslim merchants had established themselves in Ceylon. Fascinated by the scenic splendour and captivated by the traditions associated with Adams Peak, Muslim merchants arrived in large numbers and some of them decided to settle in the island encouraged by the cordial treatement they received by the local rulers. Most of them lived along the coastal areas in peace and prosperity, maintaining contacts, both cultural and commercial, with Baghdad and other Islamic cities.

According to Tikiri Abeyasinghe in his “Portuguese Rule in Ceylon, 1594-1612”, Colombo (1966), Lake House Investments Ltd., p 192, tradition has it that,

“the first Mohammadans of Ceylon were a portion of those Arabs of the House of Hashim, who were driven from Arabia in the early part of the 8th. century by the tyranny of the Caliph, Abdel Malik bin Marwan, and who proceeding from the Euphrates southwards made settlements in the concan in the southern parts of the peninsula of India, on the island of Ceylon and Malacca. The division of them which came to Ceylon formed eight considerable settlements along the Nort-East, North and Western coast of that island; viz., one at Trincomalee, one at Jaffna, one at Colombo, one at barbareen, and one at Point de Galle.”

It is perhaps reasonable, therefore, to assume that the Arabs, professing the religion of Islam, arrived in Sri Lanka around the 7th./8th. century A.D. even though there was a settled community of Arabs in ceylon in pre-Islamic times.

Shakeel, why do you contaminate your comment with that stupid “probably a Christian” statement? Not a good reflection of a ‘good Muslim’.

    Hilmy Ahamed,
Some monks hate tamils worse than they hate muslims.

    http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=79&artid=37853

Now 36 monks are contesting elections to become legislators.
If all Buddhists vote for them, they all will even become ministers in the new parliament.
If this happens, I dread to think what might happen.

    • 12
      4

Justice, the monks who are contesting are more corrupt than the Rajapaksa’s and they might cut a deal with the Muslims, Tamils and Christians to sell their Maathru Bhoomi and get the majority of us to commit mass suicide

    • 1
      2

Justice, do not worry. The 36 sobs who desecrate the robe will not get many Buddhist votes. Buddhists may not condemn these people in public but they will never vote for them. Remember what happened to the JHU when they replaced their candidates with monks.

Paul, you have a very short memory. The JHU came in to prominence only when the monks entered parliament and one of their balls was squeezed by mervyn

While I will allow others to comment on this article, let me say the claim Muslims have been here for 1,200 years is a distortion of history. It is not disputed 1 or 2 ship-wrecked Arab sailor-traders were given refuge in the country now and then in the centuries past.
The flow of Muslims in considerable numbers began largely during the
British times here and a little before when the Dutch were here.
It is roughly about 200 years when they came here in numbers from the Coastal regions of the present Tamilnadu.

To call themselves Moors is another contestable feature because Moors are those identified from the Maghreb of North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria etc)

    a. The Sinhala-Buddhist hater has started another chapter.

    b. Islam has not been a religion of peace as per their teachings.

    c. In your diatribe against the Saffron psychos you have failed miserably to ever condemn, and refute the ISIS Wahabi Salafist Saudi Ideology. Instead you go on a diatribe against BBS.

    d. Why didn’t you start your opinion column with a categorical, unequivocal condemnation of ISIS savagery and condeming this Sri Lankan Muslim for joining ISIS to rape, behead, torture and murder in other means all Non Followers which include Shias, Christians, Yazdis, Jews etc.

    e. Now follow it up by denying that following are not part of your Holy Book and teachings and that TERRORIST from Sri Lanka is a Sharia law lover and fan who was brainwashed in Islambad.

    f. Why didn’t you condemn the terrorist first? Please note it is not just BBS who are worried and scared. A lot of Sinhalese are.

    The Quran:
Quran (2:191-193) – “And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah [disbelief or unrest] is worse than killing…
but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until there is no more Fitnah [disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allah] and worship is for Allah alone. But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun (the polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.)” (Translation is from the Noble Quran) The verse prior to this (190) refers to “fighting for the cause of Allah those who fight you” leading some to believe that the entire passage refers to a defensive war in which Muslims are defending their homes and families. The historical context of this passage is not defensive warfare, however, since Muhammad and his Muslims had just relocated to Medina and were not under attack by their Meccan adversaries. In fact, the verses urge offensive warfare, in that Muslims are to drive Meccans out of their own city (which they later did). Verse 190 thus means to fight those who offer resistance to Allah’s rule (ie. Muslim conquest). The use of the word “persecution” by some Muslim translators is disingenuous (the actual Arabic words for persecution – “idtihad” – and oppression – a variation of “z-l-m” – do not appear in the verse). The word used instead, “fitna”, can mean disbelief, or the disorder that results from unbelief or temptation. This is certainly what is meant in this context since the violence is explicitly commissioned “until religion is for Allah” – ie. unbelievers desist in their unbelief.

Quran (2:244) – “Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things.”

Quran (2:216) – “Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.” Not only does this verse establish that violence can be virtuous, but it also contradicts the myth that fighting is intended only in self-defense, since the audience was obviously not under attack at the time. From the Hadith, we know that this verse was narrated at a time that Muhammad was actually trying to motivate his people into raiding merchant caravans for loot.

Quran (3:56) – “As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help.”

Quran (3:151) – “Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority”. This speaks directly of polytheists, yet it also includes Christians, since they believe in the Trinity (ie. what Muhammad incorrectly believed to be ‘joining companions to Allah’).

    From the Hadith:

Bukhari (52:177) – Allah’s Apostle said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. “O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.”

Bukhari (52:256) – The Prophet… was asked whether it was permissible to attack the pagan warriors at night with the probability of exposing their women and children to danger. The Prophet replied, “They (i.e. women and children) are from them (i.e. pagans).” In this command, Muhammad establishes that it is permissible to kill non-combatants in the process of killing a perceived enemy. This provides justification for the many Islamic terror bombings.

Bukhari (52:65) – The Prophet said, ‘He who fights that Allah’s Word, Islam, should be superior, fights in Allah’s Cause. Muhammad’s words are the basis for offensive Jihad – spreading Islam by force. This is how it was understood by his companions, and by the terrorists of today.

Bukhari (52:220) – Allah’s Apostle said… ‘I have been made victorious with terror’

Abu Dawud (14:2526) – The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: Three things are the roots of faith: to refrain from (killing) a person who utters, “There is no god but Allah” and not to declare him unbeliever whatever sin he commits, and not to excommunicate him from Islam for his any action; and jihad will be performed continuously since the day Allah sent me as a prophet until the day the last member of my community will fight with the Dajjal (Antichrist)

Abu Dawud (14:2527) – The Prophet said: Striving in the path of Allah (jihad) is incumbent on you along with every ruler, whether he is pious or impious

Muslim (1:33) – the Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah

Bukhari (8:387) – Allah’s Apostle said, “I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah’. And if they say so, pray like our prayers, face our Qibla and slaughter as we slaughter, then their blood and property will be sacred to us and we will not interfere with them except legally.”

Muslim (1:30) – “The Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people so long as they do not declare that there is no god but Allah.”

Bukhari (52:73) – “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords’.”

Bukhari (11:626) – [Muhammad said:] “I decided to order a man to lead the prayer and then take a flame to burn all those, who had not left their houses for the prayer, burning them alive inside their homes.”

What proof do you have of a 1,200 year history of Islam in SL Hilmy?

Was it not in the 5th and 6th Century that earliest record of Islam in Sri Lanka was reported? Where do you get the 1,200 time frame? from the same clowns who have two 40 foot graves in Talaimannar claiming to the graves of Adam and Even as per Islam with a small mosque? We support your right to worship openly, pray openly and practice your faith without hindrance.

Can we openly practice our’s in Saudi Arabia or in ISIS caliphate that this twisted terrorist perverted Muslim Sharia Law loving Sri Lankan went to fight for?

Did he behead Christians and Jews and Yazidis? did he rape Shia women for ISIS? Are you okay with that? why were you afraid to condemn him joining ISIS and condemn ISIS and their savagery against Christians and Shias and their mayhem and murder first Hilmy?

Born Again, the Muslims are decendents of Arab traders who came to these shores and settled even before Islam. They did not bring their women. They married the best and noblest of ceylonese women who were offered to them by your ancient kings, because they could be trusted to provide medicine and medical help. Do you know your history of Vijaya’s arrival and meeting Kuveni? So, we both have more or less have the same claim.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuveni

“Kuveni also known as Sesapathi or Kuvanna, was a Yakshini queen in Sri Lanka mentioned in the ancient Pali chronicles Mahavamsa and Dipavamsa of the Sinhalese people.[citation needed] The primary source for her life-story is the Mahavamsa. She is venerated as Maha Loku Kiriammaleththo by the Veddas. Other names for her varying with Veddas habitats are Indigolle Kiriamma, Unapane Kiriamma, Kande Kiriamma, Divas Kiriamma, Wellasse Kiriamma, Kukulapola Kiriamma and Bili Kiriamma.

Kuveni was a wife of Sri Lanka’s first recorded king Vijaya and she had two children, a son named Jivahata and the daughter as Disal.[1] According to the genesis myth of the Sinhala people, recorded in the Mahavansa, the Veddas – Sri Lanka aboriginal population are descended from Kuveni’s children. Kuveni, on the other hand, is regarded as a descendant of the Rakshas of the Ramayana and of Ravana, who also dwelled in Lanka.”

So you see, you are a descendantt of a Yakshini

Before the arrival of Portugese here there was no Muslims in North-East ..this is the truth…

Finally it seems Arabs are their forefathers ,,,,so why the hell Muslims here speak Tamil as mother tongue and practice Tamil traditions..???

No amount of Google info can cover the truth..Muslims in Sri Lanka are all convered Tamil Hindus ..the first conversion started in Puttalam ..

Arabs in Middle east treat Asian Muslims as shits because they know very well all these Muslims ..are converted Hindus…

Suppose if BBS will come to power tomorrow all these thoppies will be in queue for minister and ambassador posts ..and even ready to wash Monk`s robes..

It is obvious that this so called and pseudo monk provoke anger not only among Muslim community but also in other communities too.

Unfortunately this man(so called monk) can not understand the purpose of monkhood or becoming a monk( disciple of the Buddha).

Way he acts and the way he speaks and the way he provoke innocent Buddhists is despicable.

He is utterly not suitable for Buddhist monk.

By provoking sinhalese buddhist, he attempts to become a MP.That is the ulterior motive and hidden agenda.

Unfortunately Sinhalese Buddhist never understand that.

Hilmy, we know all right thinking Muslims don’t agree with what the IS is upto. Most right thinking Tamils didn’t agree with the demands of the Tigers. Most right thinking Sinhalese don’t agree with the BBS. What stops most of us from openly condemning these groups is fear of reprisals and repercussions (mostly). The silent majority sent Jews to the gas chambers. The silent majority watched the burning riots of 1983. The silent majority watched the historical Bamiyan Buddhas being brought down. But when it comes to voting, it’s the vote of the silent majority that counts.

We hope you have unequivocal evidence to back-up your claim. Slander / false witness has severe consequences for practicing Muslims in the day of Judgement. Perhaps we should condemn all atrocities committed by all people in general. In Islam every single soul is held accountable for their actions.

Maghribi, Thank you for your warning, and I say very loudly that THERE IS NO ROOM IN ISLAM for Terrorism or taking away of innocent lives. Islam has been misinterpreted by the west and abused by some of the Arab rulers. Let us not be fooled by either. Today, even though we cannot understand arabic, English and other language translations has made it possible for anyone to understand and practice the divine religion of Islam without being fanatics. PLEASE REMEMBER, RELIGION IS STRICTLY PERSONAL AND IT IS BETWEEN ALLAH AND ME, as far as I am concerned. My thoughts don’t sin and I do not sin with adequate knowledge. Allah knows best and he is my only judge

            Hilmy,

Terrorism has no place in Islam and IF ISIL aka Daesh are guilty of the crimes they are accused by the enemies of Islam, then Muslims must have clear evidence (comply with the Islamic Shariah) before they condemn it. Daesh is a group trying to oust an invading force and impose a set of harsh governance to weed out the corrupted tribal Despots and Dictators and they well may be fighting fire with fire. Journalists should avoid being apologetic and have the guts to stand up for truth and justice. The Media is all out to destroy Muslims, however Islam will prevail to the benefit of mankind. May Allah guide those who seek His guidance and have mercy of us.

Where does this passage come from ?Bagavatgita? Dammapada? Bible or ???

Quran (8:12) – “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them” No reasonable person would interpret this to mean a spiritual struggle.

Quran (4:104) – “And be not weak hearted in pursuit of the enemy; if you suffer pain, then surely they (too) suffer pain as you suffer pain…” Is pursuing an injured and retreating enemy really an act of self-defense?

Quran (5:33) – “The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement”

When moving around colombo you will get to see various kind of monks.. There you will not respect when they would behave unethically. Likewise, you would nt needa to respect any kind of men like Ghanasara.. like we wear a batik shirt or a sarong, he wears the monks costume to pretend he is a buddhist. There, he is deceviing himself not the nation. We need to introduce laws to protect lanken buddhism. Ghanasara would even eat human flesh when his contrl would loose over anyone. He is that aggressive thug of current day srilanka

In my schooling days, there were monks keep coming to buses – or some behaved as if they are not second to beggars or kawikaraya on the street. So are these monks that behave very rude in public domain. Idiotic politicians are behind them using them to paint their agendas. That is what exactly so called strong buddhists like Gotabaya or his borther the today dutugamunu do. They just feel that people of the rest of land are that stupid. They may not get it etc. But using buddhism for political survivals of some idiotic politicians is contrast today than anytime before. Did you guys see that how Mahinda approached TEMPLES even if he was given nominnations of the upcoming election. There he thought it should be his ground to pass the view to the vulnerable folks. Today, not even single among goodies would see it right guys to abuse religion for politics this way. God should see it right in the country and save us from being caught by wrong politicians.

Attacking the priest is not the answer. The injustices need to be addressed. Kuragala, wilpattu are standing examples. The kid glove treatment by the so called Buddhist leader who allowed his minority ministers to distribute govt lands, allow saudi arabia to build a wahabi university in the east, when islamic terrorism right through the world are increasing( latest Sri Lankan recruits for ISIS is an example) allows the building of mosques all over with no consideration for the rest of the population, allows a muslim minister off the hook when inferior petroleum was stalling cars all over the country etc This is the cause of creation of Gnanasara Thero not buddhist extremism. The myth has to be separated from the truth. Let as address these problems with honesty as this problem will never go away unless we openly address these problems.. If Rev Gnasara is incarcerated there will be others who will take his place unless we honestly address these problems. Let us lay the blame where it should be.

Racists like this thug in robes are the ones who caused thousands of deaths of our youth with the war with Tamil terrorists. They are begining again and if Alquida, ISIS, Boko Haram and other international terrorists step in to Sri Lanka, Gnanasara’s Ba..s would be made in to mince meat.

We do not need another bloodbath. He drew enough blood in Aluthgama. It is up to decent Buddhists to circumcise Gnansara and remove his robe. Let us not allow these racists to hijack our noble religion –

“The Noble Eightfold Path—the fourth of the Buddha’s Noble Truths—consists of a set of eight interconnected factors or conditions, that when developed together, lead to the cessation of dukkha.[30] These eight factors are: Right View (or Right Understanding), Right Intention (or Right Thought), Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.+

Any society can produce all high criminals if there is a no law in action of that country. Why we experience that our society is becoming worst is solely related to the systems that the state adminsitration applies. I dont want srilankens to be 100% Germans or Japanese but those states have rigourous law enforcements regardless of the status of the met citizen. In Germany millionaies go to prison when being caught to have gone against their tax system. The law is held equal to anyone.
But in a country where Rajapakshe kith and kin governed it as they thought was right- never had good systems – be it on external affairs or internal affairs. Where the law should have been applied was fully neglected. Us living in out of the country, while visiting our elderly parents there down, everytime I notice the levels of social deterioration. Last i was there 3 weeks ago. This time I see some progress in many areas like that the country is not seen as of Prez Sirisena compared to prior to Jan 8th, but people s behaviours are not far from animals. There are no proper systems whoever whatever being added about to have got developed. Just because 130 km long highway, they are just pompous to repeat, it was a wonder created by Raja while not seeing how much social abuses being spread among the youth today. I have even seen within my circles, that young ones behave as if they have no respect towards the elderly people. Mothers and fathers stay away from their own children, they dont invovle in showing them the good and bad.Internet and phone facilities allow them to abuse anyone. Some parents have no idea what their young children are doing with internet surfs. They the parents are illiterate in that stuff so young ones easily abuse own parents and grand parents. I believe we need a proper filter systeme to control abusvie websites being not followed by young ones of the day.

All of the world leaders including US, Britain, European, Australian and some of the Asian nations who have citizens of their own countries fighting alongside ISIS have condemned ISIS brutality as being un-Islamic and even this writer has gone to great lengths to state the same.

Quote ‘The IS is a group of terrorists and is a creation of non-Islamic states to destabilize the Middle East and its economy. There is no theological basis for any crime to be committed through terrorism or violence.’ Unquote. Doesn’t that say it all. Some who have made comments on this page have copy pasted loads of rubbish picked up from Islamophobic websites to prove their point that Islam promotes violence. All of these statements are purported to be the Divine message of the Quran have been subtlety altered with English words which contort the very essence of the message. Some of these so called Quranic statements are simply cherry picked completely out of context, no background established, no narration of the circumstances, where, how or why these messages were sent down as revelations. There are tons of such material out there on websites that Muslims don’t visit. These are all vain efforts to get Muslims to give up their religion and convert to other religions, or lose hope and Faith or have doubts of existence in their One true God – Allah Almighty. But that will never ever happen, instead the opposite is bound to happen. Look at statistics on the Muslim population around the world in last 5 years in spite of the negative fallouts and anyone can realize the growth rate to be phenomenal. Why, because Islam means Peace and submission to the will of Allah. It does not promote killing of another human being. It promotes love and respect to parents from children, respect for elders, showing affection and loving kindness to children, accepting all life forms in animals and plants to be from Almighty Allah. Of course there may be some young and restless who may not fall in line and act out as a rebel, but this in rare and isolated cases. Islam does not promote drinking nor alcoholism (a trillion dollar boozing industry taken worldwide), taking or giving money on interest (another staggering wealth creating industry with Credit cards, loans, delayed payment charges, pawning industry, everything combined to make dependency on income earned through interest as primary sources, etc.), has its own law called ‘Law of Inheritance” for distribution of wealth and properties when a Muslims dies suddenly without a Last Will, compels all Muslims to pay to charity 2.5% of their savings after one year in hibernation (no transaction) and this is spread to the value of gold they possess beyond an established weight, the value of goods in trade, etc., etc., No one talks about these things in the open except amongst themselves in the Masjids, prayer room lectures and in private gatherings. So a majority of non-Muslims don’t know much of Islam. Then again they may also complain that these are efforts to convert people to Islam and may send the BBS brigade to attack and destroy them. The point is, how can a religion which does so much for development of humanity and uplift social life (in fact it is a complete way of life without the need to borrow anything from any other religion, system or faith) be deemed a religion of violence. Everyone should watch ‘Is Islam a religion of violence or peace? by Mehdi Hasan’. In fact the arguments put forward by the Pro violence group must also be watched to really understand the violence caused by people of all the other religions of the world before Islam came into the spotlight.

I feel sorry and pray that Almighty Allah have mercy on this victim’s soul. He went with a purpose and died for a cause. Someone is responsible for instigating, enrolling and promoting his role to serve in ISIS with the false notion to ultimately serve Islam. Question arise if he had any free choice to leave ISIS once he realized in the thick of war, that he had been tricked and was now trapped and had no way out even if he wanted to opt out, and that he would get killed either way. Young blood, memorized the whole Quran and probably got sucked in to the yearning to serve Islam by giving his life. An extreme and ultimate choice of Jihad when all options fail, self sacrifice. Inna lillahi wa inna alaihi rajioon. We owe it to Allah, our life on this earth, and to Him is our return. The Islamic way of saying RIP.

This refers to the religion of Islam as non violent and tolerant. Hilmy you are wrong and it is an absolute lie.

I wish to know the true meaning of your Islam from the following verses:

If you prove otherwise I will withdraw all my assertions

“Kill the idolaters wherever you find them, and capture them, and blockade them, and watch for them at every lookout…” (Quran 9:5).

Quran tells us to: “not to make friends with Jews and Christians” (5:51), fight them “until they pay the Jizya (a penalty tax for the non-Muslims living under Islamic rules) with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued” ( 9:29). “kill the unbelievers wherever we find them” (2:191), “murder them and treat them harshly” (9:123), “fight and slay the Pagans, seize them, beleague them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem” ( 9:5).

Quran says that all those who disbelieve in Islam go to hell (5:10), they are najis (filthy, untouchable, impure) (9:28), and orders us to fight the unbelievers until no other religion except Islam is left (2:193). It prohibits a Muslim to befriend a non-believer even if that non-believer is the father or the brother of that Muslim (9:23), (3:28).

It says that the “non-believers will go to hell and will drink boiling water” (14:17). It asks the Muslims to “slay or crucify or cut the hands and feet of the unbelievers, that they be expelled from the land with disgrace and that they shall have great punishment in the world hereafter” (5:34). And tells us that “for them (the unbelievers) garments of fire shall be cut and there shall be poured over their heads boiling water whereby whatever is in their bowels and skin shall be dissolved and they will be punished with hooked iron rods” (22:19-22) and that they not only will have “disgrace in this life, on the Day of Judgment He shall make them taste the Penalty of burning (Fire)” (22:9).

Quran says that “those who invoke a god other than Allah not only should meet punishment in this world but the Penalty on the Day of Judgment will be doubled to them, and they will dwell therein in ignominy” (25:68). For those who “believe not in Allah and His Messenger, He has prepared, for those who reject Allah, a Blazing Fire!” (48:13).

Well done Hilmy, you said it as it should be said, without any fear of the fallout. We are actually witnessing the self destruction of this monks rag-a-tag brigade, with an interview given by the naval rating Vijitha Rohana Wijemuni who said that only Bhikkus with a vision and discipline should become parliamentarians not those who crave for power referring to BBS Gnanasara. He further resigned from BJP and joined the opposite camp Janatha Seth Peramuna (JSP), avowing that BJP will not win seats and therefore are never going to be a threat to him. Little by little but surely they are imploding and the good people who support his cause will realize too late the effects of the ‘mad monk’ syndrome, which is almost similar to sex crazed animal in heat but without a partner to mate. The way their campaign is being promoted, only very backward and foolish people who understand nothing of prosperity through multiculturalism and may never know of the ‘fruit bowl’ effects in all of the developed countries like the US, Australia, England and certain European countries will actually waste their vote on BJP. In short, it is a ‘one man show’ anything and everything all for himself first, then his party. He is desperate to creep into Parliament by hook or by crook to become someone to be recognized, accepted, worshiped, whilst he gets to make money, get armed security to the teeth with a retinue of bodyguards, security vehicles, all on the pretext of receiving death threats, duty free vehicle permits to sell and make some bucks for himself, free foreign trips and drawing on resources to move freely amongst the elite and foreign dignitaries in the country, shake, rattle and role the House and even kick-up some dust into the eyes of a few who he despises just to get the attention and respect he demands, and thereby disturb the country’s path towards economic prosperity, living with unity amongst all of its citizens, and the worst is that we will have to put up with him for the next agonizing 5 years. Do we really deserve this punishment? Of course we do have good, well cultured, well behaved, Buddhist monks who speak softly, calmly and intelligently and who are worthy of emulation amongst us, but this is few and far between and who may never even raise their voice to oppose nor challenge the bad image and disrepute brought upon Buddhism by this renegade monk. The whole world knows him as the new terror monk after ignominious Wirathu.

Believe it or not hating somebody will not going to work. Same for Ven. Gananasara thero. Instead of hating him start loving him, meaning go and visit him in the temple and provide him with dana and donate to his temple. Then our fellow Muslim countryman can teach the true Buddhism to him. Once he understand Bhddha’s teaching, he will not going to act as a crazy monk.

Also, Muslims should condemn the those Muslims who are spreading the Muslim extremism.

Late unique personality of the nation- Mr Kadirgamar was the leader who should be godded in terms of getting LTTERs and their mobilations banned on the rich western countries. Had he failed to do so, nothing like getting them cornered woudl have been the case.

Dear, Sinhalese speaking urban dwelling shakeel,

You say “The Tamils of Sri Lanka, throughout history, have attempted to categorize the Sri Lankan Muslims as belonging to the Tamil race. This has been mainly for selfish reasons in a bid to eliminate the minority Muslim community from having its own unique identity” – how one community can categorize another community as of particular community, there is no any logic in that statement, and that your knowledge of historical civic dissemination is very poor. Please do visit to the remote areas of predominantly Muslims and you would change your claim arose due to fear of being Tamil speaking Islamic…..or fear of Ganasera vomit.
For your information, before arrival of Vijaya from India ancient Ceylon had two distinct group inhabitants Iyakkar, and Nagar, both worshiped stones. There were Veddahs of Tamil speaking and Hela speaking, both aboriginal groups’ reminiscent are intact and Pilliyan (Sivanesadurai Chandrakanthan) is one recent descendant from that group and he took Mahinda Rajapaksha to those Tamil aborigine villages, in Poththuvil, and Thoppigala
Arab traders and settlers intermingled with Tamils as well as Sinhalese for their trading convenience and converted particularly Tamils to Islamic Religion. In Sri Lanka Tamil Literature have flourished through Islamic Tamil Scholars than by any other scholars.
Another information for you is that Sinhala Kings depended heavily on Arabian
medical knowledge & witch making and the palace workers mainly Sinhalese have to marry those Arabs to keep them within the rulers distance.
You may intend to be an Arab origin, than a Sri Lankan descendant as many Islamic friends do like, but do not distort History – A wide researching subject than you imagine

This loud mouth Gnanasara will shit in his robe and run for life at even the threat of ISIS coming to Sri Lanka. Even Gota will take the flight to USA preferring the electric chair instead of the brutality of ISIS. This Gnanasara will only scream from the safety of the bullet proof vehicles that Gota gave. His days are numbered as the Muslims have taken him to court and he should be given the maximum sentence so that we can protect our motherland

I know hilmy well and his company. They have been trained by Norway and America to destabilize Sri Lanka. He moves more with the Sinhalese than Muslims. He is obliging his sponsors, otherwise where does he get all his money

It is a known fact that Gnanasara is a bigot and a hate monger, who deliberately incites and lies to turn Buddhists against Sri Lankan Muslims. Muslims who have lived here for generations, and are Sri Lankans in every sense. The BBS has been used by the previous regime to cause communal strife for political gain, and they did not lift a finger to help the Muslims when they were attacked and killed down South. The mighty Rajapaksa’s who were able to wipe out terrorism, seem incompetent to stop vicious mobs when they attacked businesses and Mosques, and did nothing to halt this ugly racism. Those (especially Muslims) who are considering voting these jokers back, better take a hard look at this situation. Do we want to go back to racial tensions, corruption, and fear, caused by yellow robed thugs, who have brought shame to Buddhism and causing tensions between the majority and minority communities, by lies and provocation? They prey on naive minds who believe that the Muslims are going to take over this nation, when basic facts show otherwise.

Don’t worry. That is a foregone conclusion. Muslims, Christians, Hindhus and a majority of Buddhists will never vote for MR to bring him back into power for his rotten administration including that he blindly permitted to happen to minorities under his watch. Those memories of destruction, death, looting and arson that happened in Aluthgama/Beruwela are far too vivid and the hatred ‘Abasaranai’ speech of Gnanasara of BBS ill-fame still ring in echoes in our ears and cloud our eyes for those fallen victims. The curse of that regime has been exorcised from the country for good, but the evil seems to keep trying to revisit its old haunts. This election to come on 17th Aug. will be the decisive blow to severe all ties and send them into the dustbin of history. Let us all be united in our efforts to get rid of that tin-pot regime for good, those who came to make money for themselves by living off the human miseries of their subjects by treating them as minions.

      Manel,
your yellow robed thugs had to defend the sinhala buddhist. When layman protested about the injustices practiced by a corrupt govt they shot dead and cases were closed. Where were people like you when the poor were massacred in Rathupassala, Chilaw. That is why the yellow robed thugs took over as the govt is scared to touch them. Be vociferous about the injustices perpetrated on buddhists as much as you protests about the injustices perpetrated on the minorities and this problem will be solved.

To throw blame on a faith and all its followers is not fair, particularly when accusations are refuted reasonably. Muslims, like any other right thinking people in our country only want democracy, justice and rule of law- applied to everyone equally. If anyone breaks the law, they should be punished, Sinhalese or Muslim, Gnanasara or ISIS supporter.

Hilmy should either deny the vile violent passages of the Quran or defend 5h4n. Just like some christian nut job Biblical literarists, there are now millions of backward Saudi funded Quran literists who are carrying out verbstim the edicts if violence found in the texts. They are low educated, sexually repressed, unemploymed Arab Muslims, and now Muslims including Sharia lovers from secular societies. These fanatics have no place in secular nations

When “in your face ” aggressive irrational Mosque building, more and more loud prayers, and more and more attempt to convert and also isolate people happen SECULAR SUPERIOR TO ISLAM OR CHRISTIAN OR BUDDHIST people begin to get worried.
There’s no freedom to worship Non Islam in Saudi Arabia, and almost any Arab Muslim nation. Even in Dubai non Muslims don’t have big chugged or temples . Arabs and Muslims are brainwashed to hating Jews (a far more accomplished race compared to Arabs ) and in the 21st century, there’s no room for savages be they BBS or far worse like ISIS or Al Quaeda.

Accept living in a secular predominantly Sinhala buddhist nation. If we go to Arab nations, Malaysia which only has Islam as an official religion, or Indonesia we accept facts of demographic dominance. Why can’t you? SL doesn’t have an official religion. It only gives prominence to Buddhism as per 1972 constitution but has NO official religion forced on people. Norway forces everyone’s to accept Lutheran Christianity.
