Nomination To Mahinda: Betrayal Of Good Governance

By Latheef Farook

So, once again yet another parliamentary election to elect a new government!

The question is what the choice available is for the island’s unfortunate voters.

Inevitably the only choice is between the two major political parties-United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party- both of which, with their racist politics, brought the country to today’s shameful state of affairs.

These two parties were solely responsible for dividing communities to promote the majority Sinhalese at the expense of the minorities to either remain in power or capture power.

Sri Lanka with very high literacy, stable economy and communal harmony was a role model for the entire newly emerging Third World countries during the time of independence in 1948. Today, despite all its natural resources, literate population, long and rich historic past and all other advantages, it is one of the most mismanaged countries in the world known for crime, corruption at all levels,, collapse of rule and law, mismanagement of government institutions ,fast declining moral values and the list continues.

Who is responsible? It is solely the short sighted politicians of all shades of opinion.

Maithripala SrisenaFed up of autocratic suicidal politics and reckless mismanagement , economic hardship, lawlessness, crime, corruption and even the suppression of press freedom under defeated President Mahinda Rajapaksa, more than 6.2 million people trusted President Maithripala Sirisena’s slogan of “ good governance “ and voted for him in the hope of a better future for the country.

It was a peaceful revolution which liberated the people from the era of tyranny and the dreadful “white van” culture of kidnapping, torturing and killing.

In the subsequent free environment there was a sigh of relief in the mindset of the people. They expressed their thoughts with a sense of freedom even if it was against the government. An aura of hope and optimism pervaded the Sri Lankan society. A psyche of positivity was emerging in place of the fear psychosis that was extant previously.

However in the subsequent weeks and months the daily disclosure of crime, corruption, plundering of nation’s wealth by the former President Mahinda Rajaaksa, his family members, his ministers and other politicians, wheeler dealers and henchmen close to the regime shocked the country and the world.

It was absolute disgrace that a country with a population of around 20 million, ( around 1.5 million living abroad) less than one fourth of the population of the Indian state of Tamilnad and with all its gifted resources had to suffer this fate only because of corrupt and opportunistic racist politics.

However within months after President Maithripala’s election, disillusion began to creep in all over. Those who were earlier accused of various crimes, corruption, drug dealing etc. continued to enjoy their privileges without being taken into custody despite adequate evidence.

For example Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera disclosed that former President Mahinda Rajapasa had amassed around 18 billion rupees by various corrupt deals while former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, besides other numerous allegations, opened a bogus nonexistent company in an address in London and maintained accounts at Virgin Island in UK.

The growing disillusionment was exacerbated by the controversial Central Bank bond issue ,Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe openly defending the Governor, no confidence motions against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and Minister John Amaratunge. This made people to ask “what is the difference between Mahinda government and Ranil’s government?.

The corrupt politicians who were rejected by the people, realizing the weakness of the Maithripala-Ranil government, which failed to take them into custody, began to challenge the government.

The only question that was in everyone’s mouth from north to south and east to west was “why did President Maithripala and Prime Minister Ranil refuse to take those accused into custody?”

For example, they pointed out, that drug dealer Wele Suda has provided enough evidence about all those top people involvement in drug dealings. According to reports Attorney General submitted report to arrest former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, but the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe refused to do so for reasons better known to him. In the same way there is clear evidence against former Minister Wimal Weerwansa on corruption charges. There are many such cases and the people continue to ask why they are not taken to custody.

Then they begin to ask whether there are secret deals between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the one hand and the defeated and rejected President Mahinda. The latter well aware of the weakness of the Sinhala majority launched his fraudulent campaign to regain power using the Buddhist temples as his base. He and his cronies are hell bent to topple the government and capture power by hook or crook.

In fact one should not forget there were wild speculations about secret deals between defeated President Mahinda and Prime Minister Ranil when he was the opposition leader. These speculations were mainly due to the failure on the part of Ranil , as then opposition leader, to bring to light and raise public opinion when the Mahinda government was plundering and misruling.

In fact the prevalent opinion in the country at that time was that Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe was a miserable failure as the opposition leader.

Muslims who voted en bloc for President Maithri were disillusioned from the very inception saying” we didn’t vote for President Maithripala to reward corrupted Muslim politicians who lost the confidence of the community with ministerial portfolios.

On the other hand failure to take into custody and allowing the destructive racist forces such as BBS, whom I suspect as funded and trained by Israel’s secret service Mossad, to raise their ugly heads questioned the “good governance” and its ability to ensure the peace and security among the minority Muslim and Christian religious communities.

The failure to deal firmly with corrupt elements also led to people losing confidence in the government’s ability to deal with serious issues. It also provided an opportunity to defeated president Mahinda to continue his fraudulent campaign against the government.

The talk of the town was that crowds of paid and sponsored people were brought to cheer and urge former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to become the leader again. In addition, Mahinda exploited Buddhist Temples to provide a religious fervor to his racist campaign which has all the potentials to turn this country into anarchy.

It was in this environment the parliament was dissolved and the people were given the opportunity to elect a new government. The tragedy is that they have to inevitably vote for one of these two -UNP or SLFP – parties which turned this paradise into the mess it is now.

In the midst comes the announcement of Mahinda Rajapaksa, accused of widespread crime and corruption and virtually ruined the country, contesting the forthcoming elections in the UPFA ticket. This sent shock waves throughout the country.

The question is how come a person with such shameful record be allowed to enter mainstream politics and that too in the party headed by President Maithripala Sirisena who promised Good Governance and pledged to eliminate crime , corruption and misrule.

People are speechless. They do not know what to say and where to turn to as those who should be in the jail are allowed into politics.

This is complete violation of all accepted moral principles and also the betrayal of “Good governance” and the country as a whole.

      Mr. Latheef Farook,

Thanks a lot for raising your voice against this terrible betrayal. Must say I am totally shocked by this development. I know millions are as well.

However, Sri Lankans cannot afford to run away from this battle. We must re-gain our composure. Despite the magnitude of this disappointment. We must take stock of the situation. Pick ourselves up again and fight back. Not only will we fight back again. We will prevail. Those who play games with people aspirations and their dreams will pay a heavy price.

May God bless our country and rescue her people from shameless clowns who have taken over the political system.

      Cheers!

PS: Romesh, If you have nothing else to do during your spare time, go look for evidence against Rajapassa cronies yourself. We got better things to do. Thanks!

Thanks Mr. Farook for a good one! Sri Lankan Politicians have been the ruin of the country.
Majority of politicians are corrupt, criminal looters, SInhala, Tamil, Muslim, while wrapped in the Buddhist and other religious flags and insulting religions!

At this time we need to focus on GHOST VOTERS who are responsible for the victory of the most corrupt politicians. This must not be allowed this time at the general election

The priority for civil society and the Election Commission right now is to get the Election Commissioner to review the voter lists get rid of the GHOST VOTERS on all the electoral lists that the corrupt Mahinda Jarapassa regime added on to RIG the Presidential election in January, despite which MR lost.

15 million votes in a country of 21 million does not make numerical sense. Many Sri Lankan I know also have not registered due to DISGUST with the political system.

Ranil and 150 day government couldn’t prove a single damn thing against MR.

But Mr. Ben here seems to have proved himself about MR & cronies. He should help Ranil to at least prove one case against MR.

Damn, these are the people we should send to parliment. They have already done what Ranil and the 150 day govt failed to do.

You guys would stay adding this kind of thoughts. But not caring the realities are aside. While waiting for my transit from Dubai to cmbo, I happened to talk to good educated men and women I myself met there, said, Rajapakshe s handlings were like a ballon filled with air is being kept under the water – he made every effort to suppress the thoughts and minds towards the reconcilation of the northern folks since the war is no longer there. But this would not work practically, since that kind of menchanisms cant work longer as it was the case with LTTE political wing was defeated towards the end of the 2009. Whoever whatever being expressed, anyone with a little brain would get it easily, if LTTErs stayed powerful as it was the case with them from the begining on, no Rajapakahse or others could eleminate terror activities Ltte PRACTIsed WITHIN the lanken soils. So instead of eating the cake ONLY by Rajapakshes, they have to share the pieces with any others that contributed for the elemination of the terror.
Today, Rajapakshe says, those who saved the nation are being attacked to this day… but why was the same man was unable to see it at the time, he went against SF ( today Field Marshal). Even if Rajapakshe would hav been brought to the field by any Rajapkshe Proxy men and women of the nation…. Field Marshal s titles would not removed since the position is unchangeble by any powers. No pepole with sanity would agree with any attacks being made towards former Army commander SF.

Romesh, As we no Mr Fukoor does not rely on evidence or reality. His last contribution to CT was about CARNAGE of Muslims in Sri Lnaka by Sinhalese Buddhists. He based that outrageous slur on two Muslim and two Sinhala deaths in Aluthgama.

It is unlikely he is going to be happy until Kabir Hashim or that crook Mustafa is made president to stop the CARNAGE!

This is why we need Mahinda to now get real and stop supporting Muslim causes like support to the Palestinians.

We don’t want Jihadist trouble here.

“Sri lanka is one country for all.”

If that is the case when are you going to remove the special status enjoyed by Buddha Sasana in constitution?

“All kinds of racisms must be defeated!”

Why doesn’t MR nominate Douglas Devananda as the next SLFP candidate for his constituency, back him, campaign for him, help him to win the seat in the next elections, appoint him as the next prime minister of this island?

          Aren’t you talking bull?

Cannot understand the commotion about giving nomination to Mahinda Rajapaksa. If he is corrupt VOTERS CAN MAKE A DECISION AT THE ELECTIONS.

Also please do not underestimate President Sirisena. He is one of VERY FEW EXCEPTIONAL PEOPLE, if not the only one, who could defeat MR at the last Presidential election. President is a very experienced campaigner. I think this is a very strategic move. Let me quote from Art of War

“To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill”

“The whole secret lies in confusing the enemy, so that he cannot fathom our real intent.”

“Do not repeat the tactics which have gained you one victory, but let your methods be regulated by the infinite variety of circumstances.”

Well written Latheef. It is really betrayal of trust of 6.2 million people who voted for Maithripala S in January if Mahinda R is allowed to contest in the forthcoming elections. Maithripala S and Ranil W have proved that no politicians can be trusted in SL. These politicians whoever it is, they will continue to give promises before the elections and continue to deceive the innocent voters who do not have alternatives other than voting for one of the two main factions. Whether they are green or blue or any other colour, they are the same bunch of people who try to capture political power by any means. Now it is the time for us to educate the people at grass roots level and make them realise whether it is worth voting for these corrupted/ fraudulent/ deceiving politicians in the forthcoming elections. The people should teach a good lesson to all these politicians by rejecting them in the forthcoming parliamentary elections. Now is the time for the people to bring real change in Sri lanka.

RE: Nomination To Mahinda: Betrayal Of Good Governance

The dust has not settled yet and the fat lady has not sung yet.

Does Maitripala Sirisena has something up his sleeve, to distract and mislead Mahinda Rajapaksa and his cronies? Let us hope so, the Second Appa, Hopper Fest.

Of course it is the betrayal of the 6,200,000 voters who did not want Mahinda Rajapaksa. So my take is as follows, it can go two ways. One very bad way for Sirisena, if Mahinda Contest on the UPFA or SLFP ticket,, or Good way if Mahinda is out.

When it is announced , Mahinda has secured nomination under the UPFA , the aimless ‘slaves’ of his would have been jubilant , but such ecstatic delight was not visible because such a thing has not happened because of the signature issue. ‘Maithri will never give nominations to us . He is only sending us on a wild goose chase ’ , said Gotabaya who saw the letter.

If it is not a wild Goose Chase, then, see below.

Let’s see Who this President Maitripala Sirisena is based on what has transpired over the past 6 months.

      1. A Spineless person
      2. A Wimp
      3. A Coward
      4. A Traitor to 6.25 million voters.

He called it a “compromise”. A ‘compromise” with the Devil, Satan, Mara. Iblis, Shaitan. Lucifer and MaRa.

So, Maitripala Sirisena has helped form a new Word.
      “compromise”, now means Wimpromise.

Maitripala Sirisena, the spineless, wimp, coward and traitor wimpromised with the Liar, Crook, Robber and criminal Mahinda Rajapaksa.

MaRa MaRa Chatu MaRa Amana MaRa, Wimpy Sira

Through the grape wine…..some very good news… hope it is real in this drama.. and dilemma..and dilly dallying.. saga..

Not only tyrannical Mahinda but even his corrupt minions in the queue will not get nominations : President Maithri re -confirms!

President Maithripala re affirmed and re confirmed that Medamulana Percy Mahendra Rajapakse who only deserves an ignominious place in the Guinness book of records as the worst liar and tyrannical ruler in the world responsible to disgrace and degrade the country on an unprecedented level will not be granted nominations . Even those minions who are propping and prodding him will not get nominations , said President Maithripala who was steered to victory on the 8 th of January by the people who risked their lives to accomplish that for Maithripala and elect a government of good governance. It is a pity even now the deposed people discarded ex president who is considered by one and all as fast gravitating towards the grave and a spent force is despite his acute senile decay mentally and physically is engaging in most treacherous manipulations to wrest nominations from president Maithripala.

The president gave this unequivocal confirmation when he met with the leaders of the people’s forces today (noon) who were ready to sacrifice their lives to earn him victory on 8 th January.. The president met with these patriotic forces at a venue that cannot be disclosed.(Names of the leaders who participated shall be revealed later )

Following a lengthy discussion , the president has stated in no uncertain terms that not only Mahinda , even those minions who are queued up behind him , the notorious corrupt crooked scoundrels who were responsible to devastate the SLFP party will not be given nominations.’ ‘Even if my hand is severed I shall not grant nominations to the corrupt’ were the words used by the president.

        Accordingly, the following :
        Mahinda Rajapakse
        Namal Rajapakse
        Basil Rajapakse
        Mahindananda Aluthgamage
        Dilan Perera
        Sajin Vaas Gunawardena
        Rohitha Abeygunawardena
        S.M. Chandrasena
        T.B. Ekanayake
        Duminda Silva
        Mervyn Silva
        Lakshman Vasantha Perera
        Dhanasiri Amaratunge
        Jonstan Fernando

are the corrupt politicos who will not be getting nominations under SLFP.

It is significant to note that Susil Premajayantha the UPFA general secretary , even though is a bootlicking shameless stooge of the Rajapakses , he has no powers to sign for the nominations alone. In the circumstances , his statement yesterday that all the parliamentarians will be given nominations is based on his day dream.

Desperate and dejected Mahinda who got wind of this is now frantically seeking to take refuge in Dinesh’s MEP party and its symbol , the wheel , or Wimal Weerawansa’s NFF party and its ‘panchayudha’ symbol . He is now having discussions on this.

At the same time , according to the memorandum of understanding signed between president Maithripala and Ranil Wickremesinghe , anybody who is not granted nomination under the SLFP will not be given nomination under the UNP too. In any case , the UNP executive committee and Ranil Wickremesinghe have already decided that nominations shall not be granted to politicos facing charges of corruption.

6.2 million people rallied together to bring about a decisive change in the country successfully .Today this number has risen phenomenally – not diminished. It is the people’s apirations and cherished aim that the government shall be anti corrupt , development and good governance prone . No mafia boss , no godfather , no selfish opportunistic or thug of a ruler can oppose this force.

This will be the greatest betrayal that has ever happened if it finally happens as, according to some reports, Maithri has himself confirmed that he has agreed to give nomination to Mahinda.

Yet, it is a well-known fact that never in the post-independence history of Sri Lanka that promises at election times have been honoured by any party or a coalition of parties after they have formed the Govt. In such a ‘cultural of political betrayal’ Maithri’s decision cannot be a surprise as he too is a part of the culture practice by the ‘betraying old political gangs’, be either the UNP, the SLFP or coalitions led by them. Given that if the people want a real change towards true good governance the said ‘betraying old political gangs’ should be totally driven out from the political scene of Sri Lanka. People should think of the emerging ‘new leftist groups’ who have shown consistency in their principles and policies.

While the President and the Prime Minister had an understanding about “Good Governance”, Ranil Wickremasinghe showed his true colors in doing his own thing without seeking the advice of the President and driving deep doubts in the majority community – 70% of that community is not urbanized like Mr. Farook and so Colombians.

    1) The Treasury Bond debacle
    2) FM doing his own dialogue with the Tamil Diaspora – (PM & FM will drop their undies at the behest of the Western powers antagonizing countries that helped SL militarily defeat Tamil Tiger terrorists)
    3) Creating and driving change with Sri Lankan icons without gaining the confidence of the majority of Sri Lankans

A free and fair election under the direction of the Yahapalanaya President will rest doubts whether policies of the UNP or UPFA is acceptable to the majority of Sri Lankans and which politician (MR or RW) is more acceptable to the majority of Sri Lankans.

MS betrayed 62 lakhs who voted for him. What a travesty of justice that he is now bending over backwards to pls the lackeys of the UPFA & SLFP who did their best to make him lose whilst he uses his position fortified by all those who risked life & limb to make him president , to bring the scoundrel back into power.

I cannot understand how any right thinking individual could stoop so low.

How dare he obtain our votes & use those votes to now thwart us.we voted not for him but AGAINST MR. He was only a common candidate supported by a rainbow coalition. How dare you forget this. How dare you put yr party the SLFP bfore the country. You are alive today bcause we voted enbloc for you & not because of anything that the SLFP did for you. If you had lost & MR had imprisoned you, your stupid SLFP would not have lifted a finger. But today you have chosen to compromise on yr principals & to mix with the devil.
What you have done to 62 lakhs who voted for you is one of the greatest deceptions in recent times. You have acted like Satan.

May you wallow in your own vomit.!

I guess ‘Betrayal of good governance’ is the understatement of the week. It is one thing for a Statesman-President to remain ‘neutral’ in a parliamentary election (even an honourable thing), but for someone who was voted in and trusted with the sole task of ‘cleaning up the dirty politics’ prevalent in the country leading up to 2015, this is nothing but a cop-out.

We had all admired the courage and risk taken by MS to contest MR at the presidential election, and are bewildered to think that he was more afraid of ‘taking the blame’ for his party breaking up if he didn’t give MR nominations! What a contradiction! Not afraid to risk his life from the brutal politics pre-2015, but morbid about being blamed for a split in a lame party!

As many have noted, this is the problem of our politicians putting the party before the country. Very sad indeed. The statesmanship of the President has taken a beating that it would never quite be able to recover from. A person who could have potentially become known even more than his predecessor, now has little chance of being anything more than a ‘caretaker president’ who couldn’t ‘take care’ of the country properly for even 6 months!

His only hope now, is that the people of this country will rise above the kind of party-politics that he’s playing and vote MR and his band of culprits out of office. Even if they do, no credit should ever go to the President for this dreadfully cowardly act. The 3rd of July would come to haunt him and overshadow 8th of January as the day he ‘dropped the ball’.

So sad. For him. For the rest of the country – we are on our own now. We need to make sure that we keep all the rogues out of our next parliament. Hat’s off to the Director of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board for calling parties to leave out 25 of our 225 existing MPs from nominations and reconsider nominating 95 of them who haven’t passed their O/Ls (do we deserve to be ruled by such?). Also to other initiatives such as cccclk.org and the ‘March 12th Movement’. We need to take the future of this country into the hands of the civil society, so that whatever government that comes would not be able to do ‘whatever they want’.

So, Maitripala Sirisena has helped form a new Word. “compromise”, now means Wimpromise.

Maitripala Sirisena, the spineless, wimp, coward and traitor wimpromised with the Liar, Crook, Robber and criminal Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Amarasiri may have jumped the gun..

We want Matrupals Sireisena to make a U Turn and dump Mahinda Rajapaksa and his cronies…

Through the grape wine some good news developing story to dump the following fro UPFA and SLFP…nominations.. the Crooks, Robbers and Criminals..

Accordingly, the following crooks are to be dumped…

    Romesh,

If you want proof of MARA’s TSUNAMI EMBEZZLEMENT, ask SARATH N SILVA, the disgraced former CHEAP JUSTICE. Did he not apologize in public for setting this ACE ROGUE MARA off the hook when it was proved beyond doubt that he swindled the money. That was the gateway of his robbery and rest is all too known. Do not act like a baby or as if you have fallen from the sky only today.

It is a bloody curse that we may be made to be ruled over by these Thugs and Murderers, due to the bloody madness of the majority of idiots like you and betrayal of MY3.

Is betrayal an inborn quality in Sri Lankan politics? Pathetic and shameful.

    Our claims remain intact.

Secretary Kerry was fooled in the power Changing Drama on the 8th night. But the biggest fools now are the TNA. Sampanthar left the treatment he was receiving in India came to Lanka and release the fake statement saying that they have agreement with the New Royals to sort out Tamils problems. Immediately after the statements New King, Mangala, Ranil and many other Sinhala Intellectuals clearly stated that “No leader, No commander or even a soldier will be investigated”. We wrote passionately asking TNA to withdraw the support and stay out of the election as the was only delaying, defeating mechanism of international inquiry. That came true right away. UN’s UNHRC High Commission right away gave in to the cheating of the new King and dismissed the OSIL report presentation in UN.

Then dramas started to open out. The investigation started with honoring most notorious war criminal as Field Marshal. The Victory day was renamed and celebrated while many went MulliVaikkal to do their remembrance were punished and even arrested. There was no real lands were released. Big propaganda was successfully staged. No one prisoner is released. Gobi’s wife was tortured more by denying her right of leaving the country. Many Northern PC MPs were investigated. Many Tamils repeated sent to army rehabilitation. An invitation to diaspora as released to return to country. Suresh had to warn them the trick behind this. It was only to bring back the people they needed to arrest.

CV was sleeted most peaceful candidate for NPC CM. He even earned diaspora wrath by saying the relation ship between Sinhalese and Tamils are husband and wife relationship. That is not what his speech is that is what his life too. In his family, the Sinhalese and Tamils are husband wives in real life. When his NPC asked for an investigation for the atrocities took place in Mullivaikaal, he was painted as Mohamed Ali Gina of North. Every foreign diplomat in Lankave was used to suppress him as calling him the 2nd Prirapaharan. Now the the Notorious President, the Old King and the Notorious Defense Minister, new King have rearranged their positions as Executive President and Executive prime minister. We saw this how Putin and Dmitry rounded the chair for the music and Putin became the President.

We pointed the similarity of the Chief Justices dismissals by the individuals in the government. But it was claimed these modern Abraham Lincolns are doing good for the country but just only with a heavy hand that is necessary to the time.

New King is only an evolution of Sinhala Intellectualism, Sinhala Royal-ess. Same animal but with different, New face. There was no weaponless revolution or silent, bloodless coup on January 8th. Those were only the campaign carries out by the servants of the Royal Families. There was no magician brought a white pigeon out of burning black hat. We had written in these columns that is re-arrangement was only a method to share the looting from Mullivaikkal. The left out UN UNPers and slipped down SLPEyers and the common Generals were compensated in the new arrangement. Those comments are still there. We are the only ones connected the news appeared in Sinhala Media of “coup in Temple Tree House” and the “Secretary Kerry’s treat to sent US Army to remove Old King”.

If one day somebody break and story that Ranil Mahata, New King and Old acted together in the last election, I would believe that too.

    Hi Romesh,
You are asking evidence!!! What happened to the loads of pieces of evidence submitted to CID against the corrupted criminals of MR government on serious crimes committed by them. More than the evidence you seek, the people witness about what happened in MR dynasty. We do not need any more evidence than what the voters witness. Don’t you think that MS has made mockery of good governance by agreeing to nominate MR. What a clean man MS was when he came in front of the voters and asked for their votes six months ago. Now we can see full of dirty in his white cloths, body and heart. The Sri lankan voters trusted him like a divine idol who came to rescue them. Now what is happening? 6.2 million people voted for him to get rid of MR. But what MS has done now is just opposite to bring him back. The voters will definitely teach a very good lesson to MS in the forthcoming parliamentary elections for betraying them.

a writer who is trying to whitewash mangala’s bunggala by pretending not to know the difference between dollars and rupees.

maithri has no other way to not allow the SLFP to split other than to give nomination to mahinda. His first and foremost loyalty should be to his party and he has done the right thing.otherwise it would have been a cake walk for the UNP.Let the UNP sweat a bit for their seats without getting it on a platter. Also chandrika has said she will contest from gampaha to counter MR.The more the merrier and we will watch the fun.

Mahinda has been charge sheeted by the Peradniya Lecturers and is sufficient for a
decision by SB Voters. This alone is sufficient to confront the Villagers and over-ride a war-hero mentality hype of the past Regime:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFRgMySYBs

(Statement by the United Front Of The Peradeniya University Lectueres And Alumni)
” Friends, time has come to educate one another about the massive corruption that happens in Sri Lanka under the Present Regime. The Executive has taken the lead in this process resulting in massive debt, virtually mortgaging our mother land to foreign countries. Each individual and even the unborn in Sri Lanka owes close to Rs 400,000.00 as debt to China and other lending agencies. Country is in the threshold of bankruptcy. Today more than 50% parliament members have not even passed the O/L examination. Present regime has no respect for education. Country’s development could be achieved only by educating people. We emphasise that more than 6% of the GDP need to be allocated for education, which the emerging new leadership has promised. Hence we strongly feel that the present regime should be removed for a more thoughtful, compassionate and considerate leadership to take reins to spearhead this beautiful nation to be a DEVELOPED NATION devoid of corruption, family favouritism and protected independent Judiciary. This Government ……… 1. Promised that the presidential system will be repealed, in the “Mahinda Chinthanaya”, instead extended the number of times a president could contest from two times to unlimited. 2. Robbed around 95 Million LKR from the “Tsunami” fund ( Helping Hambantota ) donated by the Japanese government. This was his first political robbery apart from what he made as the Minister of Fisheries. 3. Let all the ministers of his cabinet to rob at their will, hence he could blackmail them. He turned a blind eye when his Prime Minister imported Drugs and few members of his cabinet importing illegal ethanol and drugs. 4. Alienated the country towards China resulting in India developing bitterness with Sri Lanka. 5. Obtained loans from China at rates higher than Libor (London Interbank Offered Rate) to earn commissions. These commissions in billions were routed to Swiss bank accounts via Seychelles, where MR opened a branch of Bank of Ceylon and also an Embassy in a country where only 92000 thousand people live. Sri Lankan airline flies to Seychelles. 6. Built a port where no ships come. Air Port where no Airplanes land. He made billions of commissions doing these projects. 7. Made money building Roads : The cost per km of the Outer Circular Highway from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya financed by China is US$ 56 m(Rs.7.3billion) This cost is three times higher than the Kottawa Kaduwela extension of the Southern Highway financed by Japan ,which is Rs.2.4 billion per km. 8. The cost per km of Extension of the Southern Highway from Mattala to Hambantota will cost Rs.2.14billion, whereas per km cost of the Southern Highway cost only Rs.975m 9. Bid price of A9 road was Rs.140 m per km when the departmental estimate for an A class road was Rs. 20m. 10. Construction of the Norochchole Coal Power Project was awarded to a well- established Chinese contractor at US$280.00M in 2005 by the previous regime. Soon after present regime came into power it cancelled the contract and awarded it to another inexperienced Chinese firm at US$520 million-almost double the previous price. Plant is inoperative even after 2years of completion. 11. On a dispute between Essential Services Commissioner and Asset Maritime (Pvt) Ltd arbitrator-a retired High Court Judge awarded Rs.600,000.00 as compensation to the company. A Committee appointed by the President on the intervention of the First Lady awarded Rs.180 million to this company owned by Dhammika Perera and Nishantha Wickramasinghe- latter being a brother of First Lady. 12. Due to the ill-conceived Hedging deal of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation headed by Asantha de Mel (a person connected to the political establishment) lost Rs. 230 billion in2007. No one has been held accountable for huge loss of public funds. 13. Failed to initiate investigations on 29 journalists murdered or disappeared. Lasantha W, Pradeep Eknaligoda 14. Failed to initiate investigations into the deaths of Members of Parliament 1. Raviraj and one other. 15. Appointed 38 numbers of the Presidents family and extended family, to diplomatic missions. 16. Turned a blind eye on losses at Mihin Air to the tune of 6-8 Billion, made by his closest buddy Sajin vas Gunawardane who had been criminally charged previously. He appointed his brother in Law Nishantha Wickramasinghe to Sri Lankan Airlines who has no formal education and made losses to the tune of Rs 70 billion to date. 17. Influenced the judiciary to President’s benefit. Impeached the 43rd Chief Justice for no reason. Makes judicial appointments to his benefit. 18. Allows Presidents children to play (Car races) on the streets of Colombo at their will by closing roads. He over ruled Mahanayake Theroes to hold car races for his children in Kandy town. 19. Failed to nominate Election, Police, Public Service and Judicial services commissions. 20. Udayanga Weeratunga – Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia. Cousin of President Rajapakse. Accused of involving in a shady deal to purchase MIG Fighters for the Sri Lankan Air force. 21. Paid 700.00Million rupees to Prabhakaran to purchase weapons to kill innocent Sinhalese using Karuna Amman who is now a deputy Minister and a Vice President of the SLFP. He uses Kumar Pathmanathan alias LTTE arms dealer to his personal benefit. 22. How Karuna was sent to London “ On August 30, 2007 the Department of Immigration and Emigration issued a diplomatic passport number D1944260 in the name of “Kokila Dushmantha Gunawardena” whose occupation on the passport was given as Director General of Wildlife Conservation. The photograph on the passport was that of Karuna Amman. The Department of Immigration, it is pertinent to note, comes under the Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order of which Gotabaya Rajapakse is Secretary and President Rajapakse the Minister”. 23. Failed to conduct an impartial inquiry into killing of around 43 prisoners at the Welikada Prison. 24. Did nothing to improve the economy and failed to introduce workers charter. Economy in shambles. 25. Arranged for his son to sit for the Law exams in an isolated air-conditioned room, away from the other candidates. 26. Killed protesters in Rathupaswala (8), Free Trade Zone (1) and Chilaw (4). He used maximum force on all protestors.”

    This writer says:
“Muslims who voted en bloc for President Maithri were disillusioned from the very inception saying”

So that this country can be converted to a Muslim Country within about 200 years. It seems to us that their project will get delayed, if Mahinda is coming to power again?

The Elections Commissioner has no power to reject MR’s nomination and thus, President Sirisena too has no power to accept or reject same.
There is nothing in the constitution which precludes a defeated presidential candidate contesting an electorate to become an MP.
MR has same voter base which voted for him on 7th January.

If the same number who voted for MS, vote for UNP and UPFA candidates, MR and his minions will be the minority in parliament.
This could happen, as MR & Co. do not have the facilities of state media, state enterprises, state funds etc.

This will, it appears, be the bloodiest parliamentary election ever.

MS hid at Mahiyangana during the presidential election, and he may now be under increased personal threat – a diehard extremist MR supporter could kill him.
This may be why he allowed MR to contest.

It is the greatest betrayal. People are shocked and it is unbelievable. The 6.2 million people voted for good governance and to save the country and not to save any party. The continued silence of MS is puzzling. Everything is back to square one.

this is the greatest political betrayal in the post independent Sri Lanka. MY3 has betrayed the people who voted him into office. He will suffer the consequence. He has taken a step he should have avoided for his own survival. Do not know he is under some form of blackmail.

      Blackmail?
Strong possibility. He was an important crony and henchman of MR his leader for many decades.
Pictures of both of them hugging each other dearly shows their intimacy, friendship and collaboration throughout the tenure of MR’s incumbancy, and there could be many other reasons too,who knows.
The fear of all that being exposed may be one reason, this happens when rogues fall out over division of spoils. That betrayal and fall out took place after a diet of ‘Bithara Aapa’. As such the betrayal of the 6.2million who were deceived into voting for him is no surprise. This is a good lesson for the people to learn the hard way.
      But will they?

  • 2

Some of us may have been too emotional on the matter concerned and may have been too hasty and may have been to quick to judge The President ,I guess we as layman may not very well understand the Political legal implications ,may be the law is such that The {resident has no choice but to permit The Ex.President to contest ,of-cause me as a Minority and over it being a Muslim have butterflies in my tummy to just sit and think of going back to the days when you never know where the next sporadic attack on Muslims is going to happen and no one can say it wont, it has and the BBS has clearly indicated they are going ahead with the Anti Sentiment against the Muslims and honestly after experiencing the huge difference of peace of mind from Jan 2015 to now,it is going to be back to miserable uncertainty all the time.

But I guess The President has acted in good governance which is what he was elected to practice and another bitter truth ,to-date not a iota of solid material evidence have been produced against Mr.Mahinda Rajapakshe.

The good thing is all voters in this election can be sure of at least one-thing , with the honest gentleman of election Commissioner still in charge, we may have a true outcome of the votes .

And with the new system another good thing is it will expose the peoples true mindset according to the Politicians they vote into the Parliament.

let us look at the worse scenario – what I suspect could happen is , which other than God ,no one can stop is MR will be elected as MP he will get a seat no matter which party he contests from that is for sure as he has a segment of people who really love him and nothing in this world will change that ,right now for him what is important is to be an MP , most probably if SLFP manages to get a majority vote, no second word ,MP.Nimal Siripala’ may become the PM , in which case the rest of the party may consider MP. Nimal Siripala exchanging the Chair with Mr.Mahinda Rajapakshe ,which could be the end ball game.

What matters after that is left to be seen . so let us see what happens on 17th August 2015 ,anything can happen, remember no one is promised his tomorrow . and no one ever lived forever.

    Wait & Hope
(Two great words of many a great men)

    Dear All Sri Lankans.
it is really pathetic. How quickly MS is deceived by MR. The entire world know how corrupted is MR and co. MR and co wanted to escape from all corruption charge and they wanted to escape any punishment. They did all what they could to win the last election by failed. It is people who rejected MR in the last election.
Suppose MR won the last election, MS would have been dead by now, His family would have been wiped out. He told this many times. Now look what happened he was deceived. This may be final nail in MS;s coffin.
Scenario one: MR will compete with Ranil and in that case, MR will win over Ranil for premiership. One he could it according 19 amendment it would be very much similar to President. MS will become puppet. Even MR will punish him and MS will disappear. In politics things could change in a minutes, hours or days.
Scenario Ranil win with full support of people: the Same way like before all minority parties, UNP and all some MPs who do not like MR joined UNP. It is said Arjuna and some other have already joined UNP.CKB may also joined with UNP.
People do not like to see MR again in politics.
I think the second one will be more practical today. people like UNP over SLFP today in this condition. It is decided into many groups

Nomination To Mahinda: Betrayal Of Good Governance – latheeffarook

You opportunists what have you done to unite communities? Write rubbish?

Good Governance”, Ranil Wickremasinghe showed his true colors in doing his own thing without seeking the advice of the President and driving deep doubts in the majority community “

Ranil and the UNP shot themselves in the foot. Treated MS as a non english speaking puppet who was brought to power by them. They treated MS with much disregard.

Since MS has joined hands with the “devil” as it is stated then let all the shocked voters who supported MS join hands with the “devil” the UNP. After all lets go for a lesser evil and show the power of the ballot and also prove to the world that we are a literate nation with 80 percent literacy and we can never be taken for a ride by these turn coat politicians

‘We will name the corrupt as alleged corrupt now the buck is passed on to you the voters to pass judgment’ but electors are always ready to vote for bribes. ‘No proof’ the corrupt will shout who will dare to witness against once elected, powerful influencial rich dynasts patriarchs? They are all related literal and metaphor! The black coats are waiting to reverse judgments on technical grounds! My3 keeps ladder to climb, the UPFA constituents cry out loud a MR-My3 govt is on the anvil. A highly literate but racially charged electorate hails the recognition nomination that over heats the charge! Charges are dropped.

Although it looks on the surface as a betrayal, we need to look at this in perspective. When we voted MS to become President we didn’t anticipate he ever becoming President of the SLFP let alone even being re-instated as a member of that party after his ‘betrayal’ of the SLFP(from that party’s view when he suddenly surfaced as the common candidate). It was MR who foolishly or with ulterior motives gave the leadership of the SLFP to MS on a platter. Now MS finds himself unable to influence the rank and file of that party against MR. So MS supporters have to look forward and find ways to consolidate the victory of January 8 rather than blaming a helpless MS, though I am not for a moment defending him if this is in anyway a “double game” which I hope not.

  • 3
    1

    Hi Justice,

You said ‘MR has same voter base which voted for him on 7th January.’

I do not think so. MR’s voter base vanished with disappearance of his power, misuse of public resources and media, intimidation, corruption, vote rigging, threatening, political thuggery, fraud, his rowdies, etc. etc. Now it has been fading, I believe. Millions of people voted for MR because of the fear and threat and other reasons I am sure you are aware of them. I also believe that they will vote freely in the forthcoming parliamentary elections if MR is not allowed to take upper hand again. I hope and pray MR is not elected by the voters as an MP and then as PM by the parliament in the best interest of my mother land.

If you say Madamulana Chinthaka already loose votes, why you guys are scared of him and pray for god? It might be, you are not believe what you say!

Best thing you can do is educate voters not crying. Further I’m happy to bring some historical fact to you about five star democracy. What happened to Algerian election which won by Muslim fundamentalist in early nineteen nineties and in Egypt what happened to Muslim brotherhood? Though majority select their government when those government not friendly with Masters of Democracy (I mean USA, UK and most of former imperialist in Europe)they need regime change.

At this moment Madamulana Chinthaka become fake leader of majority of Sri Lankan poor people if not guided by religion or ethnicity. Yes it is fake leadership and with that his clan getting benefits.

But I don’t think President Sirisena can do things with fail political commanders like CBK and RW. Further this can be worst with Sucharitha people like FM-RK and CB-AM.

Justice Seeker: I think it was during the Presidency of Mr Rajapakse changed the Constitutional provisions to install who ever becomes the President of the country from the party would be the Chairman of the Party. The result was Mr. Maithripala Sirisena was given the position.Yet, when Mr. Sirisena contested as the rival candidate of the Chairman of SLFP/UPFA, I do not know why “disciplinary” was taken against Mr. Sirisena and sacked from the party. It was “reported” of Mr. Sirisena’s suspension from the party; but how far it went was not known. It was obvious that no action was followed and he assumed the position as per the constitution. All that followed henceforth in the Parliament from the “Majority” party becoming the “Leader of the Opposition” to the “Vote of No Confidence” on the Prime Minister and Ministers are “unheard subjects” to be studied by all interested in Sri Lankan politics. In a way I feel sorry for the present President in particular and the people in general.
