“Our Son Yoshitha!”

By Granville Perera

Madame Shiranthi and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa grieved for their son with tears in their eyes when Yoshitha was remanded. He has been incarcerated on financial irregularities, money laundering and other charges of breach of Navy rules during the previous presidency. Yoshitha’s arrest (hopefully) should be just the beginning of the Rajapaksa tears, as the “shit has begun to hit the fan”.

Namal and YoshithaLittle do the Rajapaksas realize that there was a family and nation who loved Wasim Thajudeen, the St. Thomas’, Havelocks and Sri Lanka rugby player as much as they do, their notorious sons? There has been widespread speculation that Wasim Thajudeen did not meet an accidental death, and that the Police and the investigating officials including the doctors who performed the autopsy have faulted on purpose, under executive pressure. The claims of CCTV footage and autopsy reports that existed have suddenly vanished into thin air. The phone recordings and data that Dialog Axiata had presented to courts after many years of denial seem to be “top secret”. Captain Tissa, and the Carlton land rovers that were suspected of involvement in the Thajudeen murder have vanished. ‘Captain Tissa’, a military officer, a confidante of the Rajapaksa family had functioned as a driver and food taster of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Eyewitnesses, who gave evidence to the Police during investigations, had seen an individual similar to ‘Captain Tissa’ at the scene of the alleged accident in which Thajudeen was killed. The Colombo Additional Magistrate has already observed that the rugby player’s death was not an accident, but a possible murder. The CID had stated that they received information that ‘Captain Tissa’ had come in one of the two Defenders that was seen at the scene of the crime. It is rumoured that Captain Tissa is hiding in one of the army camps or protected by army personnel loyal to Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the former retired Army officer and Secretary of Defense. It is feared that he will find his way to India through a sea route and vanish.

The worst suspicion is that the arrest of Navy Lieutenant and an aide-de-camp to the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Yoshitha Rajapaksa on charges of financial crimes instead of other criminal charges that are pending against them is due to a deal that President Maithripala had made with the Rajapaksas.

President Maithripala Sirisena is desperate to ward off any challenge by Mahinda Rajapaksa to his Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), fearing that they would be placed fourth in the upcoming local government elections if there were a split in the SLFP. There is no doubt that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s breakaway group would be placed second or third with the JVP showing good signs of a comeback in a four cornered contest between the UNP, SLFP, the Mahinda Clan and the JVP. The UNP would then enjoy a landslide and Sirisena’s legitimacy as the leader of the SLFP would be dented if his lot were pushed to the 4th place. So, is the arrest of Yoshitha Rajapaksa for financial crimes a part of the political wheeler dealing of President Maithripala Sirisena to save the Rajapaksas from the gallows in return for total control of the SLFP?

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe too has huge debts to repay the Presidency of the Rajapaksa including laying of asphalt on the road to Sirikotha, when a breakaway group of the UNP attempted a coup and the many cups of black coffee that he had had with President Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.

The little brat, Rohitha Rajapaksa was probably thinking that the past year was just a dream when he screamed in arrogance “You just stood on the tail of the lion, now don’t expect the lion, not to rip u in to parts.” The shit coward who assaulted a rugby referee with a contingent of presidential security commandos needs to be brought to justice for this attack. The Rajapaksa sons are dangerous to earthlings, going by the way they behaved during the Rajapaksa rule. I suggest that President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister ask for a contra kickback from the Chinese to approve the port city project and ship Rohitha Rajapaksa on his dream voyage to the moon, never to return to our paradise.

Mahinda Rajapaksa failed miserably in his foray into films as an actor, but performed brilliantly as a political star, surpassing probably even Ronald Reagan, the actor elevated to the USA Presidency. His charm and charisma is undoubtedly brilliant. His hugging babies and cuddling the elderly made him one of the most admired and loved politicians in the recent history of Sri Lanka. His political leadership to end the scourge of terrorism needs to be acknowledged. His sibling, Gotabaya’s unwavering support to the armed forces to walk the last mile also needs to be acknowledged. Gotabaya’s leadership in city planning that transformed a mere flood control programme in to beautiful walkways, jogging tracks and beautification of cities too should be recognized. Basil Rajapaksa’s brilliance in resettling the 300,000 refugees from the final stages of the war has no parallel anywhere in the world. The development of the road network, and other development programs undertaken by the Rajapaksa regime needs to be recorded in history. Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was the architect of most of these development initiatives during his premiership between December 2001 to April 2004 has never been acknowledged.

However the Rajapaksa greed for power failed them to be recorded in history as the leadership that changed the course of history in Sri Lanka. They had the opportunity to establish long term reconciliation between the communities after the end of the war in 2009, as the nation was grateful for the military victory and the Rajapaksas would not have been accused of betraying the country. They failed miserably on this count.

The wheels of Karma have just begun to turn for the Rajapaksas. Their wealth, nepotism, abuse of power, murders and other excesses need to be accounted for. Our nation discarded them on January 8th 2015 for the total abuse of the Presidential powers. Now, the people want them to be brought to justice, and the Sirisena and Wickremesinghe government would fail in their obligation to the Sri Lankan nation if they digress from their obligations. So, Justice has to take its course so that the political leadership, current or future will not repeat the Rajapaksa sins.

Mahinda Rajapaksa is directly responsible for his son’s arrest.

MR is crying now because of his GUILT. MR set the BAD EXAMPLE of CORRUPTION and GREED and taught his son to think that he is ABOVE the Law of the Land.

Mahinda Jarapassa the king of corruption in Lanka is and was a bad ROLE MODEL for Sri Lanka’s youth and younger generation.

Arrest of Yoshita baba should be an example to all the corrupt politicians who give their children delusions that they can break the law with impunity because Daddy is a Politician.

No no, he is intoxicated even today.
Last night I heard him saying – that he has not done anything wrong to the nation.

He questioned, to save the country from terror is a blunder ?

He did not notice that even tiny issue going against the prevailing law as wrong doing.

In Europe, even a small issues such as to have added wrong wording in public meetings – that could harm folks can cause their political future easily. jUST BECAUSE of that wrong wording, three are times the law makers are asked to resign.. that is in first world…

So, these men in Srilanka to continue with thier filthy mouthpieces to the very same gullible gawky masses – seem to be not changing. It is not a good sign actually.

Those audience would feel that whatever Rajapkshe adds to them are the FACTs.. is that ?

      As JVPers described it:

they have to prove where 2.3 Million us Dollars came from-

this sum is : in Srilanken rupees

323 Mio. (3230 lacks in rupees)

Premadasa junior could use the sums for the house for the poor… easily covering all the poor family giving a shelter.

All that money came from China for giving them outright the port city. Close to another 500 million went to Banks in Dubai and monte carlo.

          You may be right,

but former president does not even think that this should NOT have been done by him … just trying to prevaricate further.. can you imagine ?

Either the man has no knowledge about anything
Or he is a born fool.

These young chaps had never thought that theirs woudl also be subjected to scrutiny – in case the reign would fall as it is the case by now.

What happened to Jackson Anthony – who held a speech on a stadium few years ago, giving all unnecessary titles to Rajano… that speech turned all easy targets – sick – went intoxicated as if some become fainted while worshiping relatively colder SRIPADA.

Madame Shiranthi and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa

“Madame Shiranthi and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa grieved for their son with tears in their eyes when Yoshitha was remanded. He has been incarcerated on financial irregularities, money laundering and other charges of breach of Navy rules during the previous presidency.”

Why? Because, you did not bring him up properly with good ethics and behavior

See what Dulanjalee Premadasa, daughter pf Late President Premadasa had to say.

“My revered parents President Premadasa and Mrs Hema Premadasa, did a stellar job in raising my brother and myself to respect and uphold the law of God and the law of the Land. I did not need your supposed advice about leading an upright lifestyle because my parents carried out that duty brilliantly. You should advice your children as their parent about leading their lives in a manner, which befits their position in society.”

I know the circumstances Mahinda’s son got involved if he did. It is the power that corrupted him. He and his family lived in a false sense of security and which lured them to commit serious offences. Had if they/he been an ordinary citizen they would not have dared to commit the offences fearing the law and all would have been decent people.

This could happen to anyone enjoying power and am afraid all presidents and their children face this risk being lured to corruption and crime without them realizing it and when they do know it is far too late. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. This one reason powers should be devolved and never kept under a single person. We are all humans and we all are subjected human fallacy, and it is only after stepping down we come to know how much we have abused power and have to face the consequences. May be the President has some immunity, but other family members do not have any protection and they have to face the full force of the law.

This behavior should provide some insight to the Government to think of ways and means of protecting the President and their families from inadvertently being lured into ‘crime’. I shall tell this temptation is not limited to only Mahinda’s children but to all Head of state’s children. Actually in this sense I feel sorry for Yoshitha, he was lured into crime which in other circumstances had if he was ordinary citizen and not a child of a president he would never have committed any such deeds.

So this again Government should take proactive steps to forewarn the family of the president and also curtail the temptation of abusing power. Powers should properly structured. President or any politician should not have powers to directly order officers. Orders should cascade properly through the respective heads of units and not directly to officer of their choice. Then all checks and balances are maintained, no politician can be tempted, and so no abuse can take place and be complained.

I feel if Yoshtitha is found guilty after a fair trial, Mahinda could make use of ‘being lured to crime’ theory as his explanation to show leniency towards his son. But this can’t go on with all the future President’s children! It is up to the Government to take steps, the head of state and family is protected of being lured into abusing power and so breaking the law.

During the last stages of the war all the tiger supporters were waiting for that elusive counter attack that would roll back all the gains made by the Army. This writer has a similar belief on the Yahapalana government. What has happened now is foregone conclusion that the tide is no more with them. MR will topple them. Putting Yoshitha behind bar is great political mileage for MR. My3 got it all wrong. He should fight for the control of UNP from Ranil not the other way around.

Your loyalty is misplaced mister. Winning the war is not a blank cheque to usurp national assets for personal use. The sons and dad suffering from delusion. They will come to senses after few years in jail and stripped off all that wealth to be reimbursed back to the Treasury. Just watch out that UNP goons do not get their hands on the moneys either. Now they are waiting to make their own riches

Maithiri should file charges on all the Rajapakses”, their cousins, nieces, nephews, have a fair trial and punish them for all their crimes.

I am afraid none of the big wig in SRi lanka whether SLFP, UNP or JVP can afford to do this as all of them are tainted by their involvement in crimes, frauds, murders, rapes, abductions, white vanning etc.

Nothing, absolutely Nothing is going to come out of this. The quid-pro-quo ( something for something ) agreements the powers make among themselves ensure their kin are saved.

Remember, Mulkirigala Painting and then the Fake currency Issue with a Premadasa ?

At least, we are comforted in knowing, Ranil has no children.

There is a ray of hope at this moment. Compared to MR’s regime, we saw how even the President was taken to task and exposed by the people and the media when his, brother, son, daughter and son-in-law were brought to lime light. If that sort of awareness was publicly announced during the MR’s regime, some of the people would have already been faded into thin air. So we see a difference and that is what must be kept in force and developed. This dirty tricks by the MR’s camp of hanging on to “war winnings” and “concocted patriotism” must be exposed and defeated to regain our Independence. Hopefully the PEOPLE will carry on that campaign forward under this Government where we have found some breathing space.

” THE MILL OF GOD GRINDS SLOWLY BUT SURELY”

All that is needed is patience, faith, hope & trust.

More powerfull people in the world than the Rajapaksas have got caught up in that mill and have come out of the other end as dust.

Have patience & pray for with God nothing is impossible.

There is no point Shiranthi crying over what seems to be long overdue. At least her sons are all alive, and most probably going to get away with murder and corruption. Unlike the many journalists missing and killed, or that poor young man Thajudeen, who was brutally murdered by vicious goons. Unlike Shiranthi, their loved ones will never see them again. Let Yoshitha eat prison food, and feel what other Sri Lankans, accused of crimes feel.
He is not special. Papa will somehow persuade the weak new government to allow his sons to get away with all crimes.

The sons of Rajapakse were emulating the sons of Saddam Hussein but their tragic end was far worse than the end the Rajapakses could look forward to, because we are not barbarians. The Rajapakses have to pay for what they did to Sarath Fonseka, Shirani Bandaranayake, the Billions that have disappeared from our coffers and the deaths and disappearance of innocents like Thajudeen and several journalists etc. The sole question the courts should ask of them is how they managed to accumulate the vast fortune they have amassed that let them buy mansions and walawwes in USA and Sri Lanka on their ministerial salaries alone.

My thoughts are about Parenthood. The children are carbon copies of their parents in mannerism and behaviours.
That is all fine and good if the parents had been the true Role Models with no BLACK MARKS ON THEM.
If the Parents have had Blackmarks before these children were born to these Parents and the Parents revert to ideal good Parents ,mcertainly we could expect the children to lead a clean and obey the law of the country.

Where as when the Parents continue to be Liars , Thieves and Murderers the children too will be the products of the circumstances.
Copy the Parents from childhood and be Young Brats first and progress to be Big time Liars and swindlers. This is all natural in that household and not punished by the Parents.
This is a simple fact ANY PARENT SHOULD KNOW BEFORE HAVING THEIR CHILDREN.
WHEN THERE’S NO LAW AND ORDER IN THE HOUSEHOLD HOW CAN YOU EXPECT A CHILD WHEN HE/ SHE’S GROWN TO REALISE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE RIGHTS AND WRONGS.

Every time the LOWYER Son appeared on TV We did hear him say LIES and contradicting every truth , not one word of truth in the matter. He became the worst Liar of the century as same as his Father.
These were BAD SEEDS SOWN BY THE PARENTS . THE TEARS WE SEE ARE OF THEIR GUILT NOTHING BUT GUILT.
GUILT CAN KILL PARENTS FOR WHAT THEY HAVE MADE OF THEIR CHILDREN. The parents are at Fault no one else.
When the vast amount of stolen money needed to be hidden away MR used his son to do his dirty , sent YR to Dubai
Or where ever to hide the Money. Any law abiding father will think twice before putting his own SON INTO TROUBLE THANKS TO HIS ROGUE FATHER PRESIDENT.

A VERY GOOD LESSON FOR ALL PARENTS. FIRST BE ROLE MODELS OF YOURSELVES AND THEN BE ROLE MODELS TO YOUR CHILDREN. THEN ONLY WE CAN EXPECT A COUNTRY PROGRESSING IN THE RIGHT PATH.
THE RULES SHOULD BE APPLIED IN EACH HOUSEHOLDS FROM YOUNG AGE.

Then we cannot expect a Murderer’s or a thief’ s child to do anything else? Can we?? Food for thought.!!!

Mahinda Rajapaksa was hiding in Akurana at a law collage friends house during the JVP led destabilization of Sri Lanka in 1989. At that time, he didnt have even money to buy his bottle of gal. He used to pleased with people who met him to buy a bottle. See how they have accumulated wealth now. Namal and the other two babies have their lamboguny’s while the entire nation is in badagini. Its payback time Mr Rajapaksa. Its time that you and your dirty wife realize that your Karma will catch up with you for the crimes of corruption, murder and plundering a nation. May all of you rot in jail for the rest of your lives.

According to MR this is a international conspiracy. This is the weapon he used most of the time to safeguard him and get public sympathy for him, leader who saved the country from 26 years of civil war. These boys had a cushy life and did not understand the suffering of the ordinary masses. Used public funds for their enjoyment.

These are organised crimes to siphon public money for them and allowing his cohorts to do the same thing. Now he is paying the price.

How come Namal, Basil and Gota still running around freely and making comments against the government.

Why didn’t Rajapakses investigate into the deaths of lasantha Wickrematunga, Thajudeen, and Eknaligoda. The reason is obvious. The victims have parents,Children ,Brothers, sisters, and relations. They are watching us. What we will do to ensure that justice will prevail. If we fail in our duty to punish the perpetrators of these dastardly crimes we too will have to face the curse of generationS of victims families.

If one goes through all the comments, no one mentions about the murdered Tamil politicians, innocent Tamil citizens(babies, children, old and infirm) bombed hospitals, schools, temples and churches with people sheltering inside. One comes to the conclusion that Tamils cannot hope to have a fair deal from UNP, SLFP or JVP or MR, MS, RW or any other future politicians from the majority community. This quality is unique to the Sinhala Budhism!!

The junior Rajapaksa brothers have been a law unto themselves and need to be reigned in. The number of people directly affected by the arrogance and highhandedness cannot be in the thousands. They have to answer to these crime and if it means many years behind bars, that is what is needed to teach the future leaders to reign in their children. This is also a good lesson to Sirisena who is letting his Chaturi and Daham to follow in the footsteps of the Mahinda Rajapaksa offsprings.

In my opinion Jarapakse sons abused their father’s powers big time,. I mean even the senior Jarapakse’s are corrupt to the extremes,. The only other political sons who could match these three in to my knowledge are the Ratwatte bros, namely Lohan,Mahen and Chanuka. Even these three were involved in some major murder cases.

There was massive development of electronic technology during Rajapakse regime making it easy for those in power to make money and launder it anyway they liked. Gota is said to be a tech wizard who, according to reports, manipulated even election results electronically. One Rajapakse was even talking of launching a Sri Lankan satellite into space on his own. Under these circumstances the new government’s attempts to trace the so-called Rajapakse billions will be nothing more than a wild goose chase. Now it’s the time for the ex-Grama Sevaka to have a crash course into the new technology and make hay while sun shines. Power is a great appetizer!
