Political Uncertainty Persists As MPs Play Cards Close To Chests

More than a week after the voters inflicted a shock defeat on the ruling UNP-SLFP coalition at the local government elections there are no signs of the crisis in governance being resolved.

Wickremesinghe

While it is clear that the movers and shakers of the SLFP and UNP, who contested the election separately, are lobbying MPs of all parties feverishly to secure a majority in Parliament, the majority of MPs are tight-lipped about their plans, again an indication of the uncertainty.

What has become clear however is that the leader of the UNP, Ranil Wickremesinghe, is not ready to give up the Prime MInister’s post. He has insisted that he has the legitimacy to remain as the premier.

Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena has declared that in the event Wickremesinghe does not make way for someone else in his party to become the PM, either in a UNP-government or in a unity-arrangement he would form a government of his own. This has forced Wickremesinghe to demonstrate that he has control of Parliament by dint of numbers. This burden is also on Sirisena who is reported to have told his choice for PM, Nimal Siripala De Silva to arrange matters so that he, Silva, can show the necessary numbers.

As of now, sources from both groups claim they have control of 120 MPs, but neither seems interested in proving the claim in an open vote in Parliament.

What this means is that there are several MPs who are comfortable being in a government led by either party. The TNA and JVP are not involved in these machinations as of now. However, at least 2 UNP MPs have decided to take an independent position, indicating that they could crossover. While around 7 SLFP/UPFP MPs are said to be amenable to joining the UNP, apart from Duminda Dissanayake, the others are apparently waiting on approval from the President to do so.

The clear victors of the election, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has it’s own parliamentary representation in the form of the Joint Opposition. The JO has publicly stated that it would support an SLFP Prime Minister provided that Sirisena abrogates any and all arrangements he has with the UNP. The JO, by declaring that they will not want portfolios in such an arrangement, would in effect hold such a PM to ransom given the strength of numbers at its disposal.

Meanwhile the legality of the Cabinet has also come up for discussion over the last few days since the unity-arrangement between the UNP and SLFP expired and as such it is no longer a ‘national’ government. Since it is not a ‘national’ government the cabinet needs to be downsized to 30 members.

Basil and the JO wouldn’t mind any scenario…but would be best for them if Ranil is PM, either in a UNP-only govt (with or without a majority) or a National-govt.

This is a Dog Fight between two losers.
    SLFP is the biggest loser..
Basil & JO strategy needs to focus on extracting the maximum benefits for the great mass of the Inhabitants who backed the JO.
And who are the great majority poor rural Sinhala Buddhists.
That means Bond Robbers, SAITM supporters, Commission Agents and UNO mates who got free lands under the pretext of opening bogus factories must be rounded up and made pay back what ever they robbed back in to the State Coffers.
And nullify Dr Ranil’s FTA with Hindians and the private Agreements with Samapathar and Suren Surendran which were made in Singapore .

Bondscam Ranil Wickramasinghe who has lost countless elections must GO!
He with his partner in crime – Mahianda Rajapaksa – who is equally greedy for power has looted the national wealth and beggared the people of Lanka and pushed the economy into a massive debt Trap.
Ranil is worse because his policies are made to benefit his foreign handlers.
Why does Sri Lanka need 12 train engines that cost over 400 million USD each, when Millennium Challenge Corporation is supposed to be providing “Fake Aid”?

MCC identified Transport as a sector that lags and then got General Electric to sell old tain engines at exorbitant prices.to the corrupt Jarapalanaya Govt, with help from Ranil and the stupid Nimal Siripala the Transport minister has been paid off – this is bi-partisan corruption organized by foreign interests in Sri Lanka. The name of the game is keep the Corruption Rackets going and extend influence in the Government of the island.

Where do you get these numbers from? A brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft costs only about $150 million US. A locomotive worth $400 million !!

      “SLFP is the biggest loser..”

Shamindra Ferdinando of the Island does not believe so. He typed Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) has eaten into Tamil National alliance (TNA)’s vote bank. You will have to take up this matter with him.

“Basil & JO strategy needs to focus on extracting the maximum benefits for the great mass of the Inhabitants who backed the JO.”

You mean Basil & JO merry men should focus on extracting more benefits for the Dr Mahinda’s clan as they did between 2005 and 2015.

      PS
“Mahinda is not a name, Mahinda is a country!” said Wimal Sangili Karuppan Weerawansa during The Rising: Nugegoda Feb 18th in 2015. The public racist Dayan agreed with him and reported it in Colombo Telegraph.

“And who are the great majority poor rural Sinhala Buddhists.”

And who do you think keeping them in poverty?
Isn’t it you the Sinhala/Buddhist fascists have been keeping the people poor so that they could feed them with imported free rice from moon. The public racist Aryan Anagarika Homeless Dharmapala’s children the Sinhlala/Buddhist Fascists have stolen political power and state power from people over the past 70 years and misappropriated the state wealth among few crooks.

For a few bits of crumbs you assiduously support the crooks and war criminals, in fact voluntarily carry their b***s.

The stage is set for further skullduggery. The unholy alliance is about to fall apart
and RW and RK will be licking their lips at the prospect of running a Govt without even a semblance of accountability. All they require now is to get Paskaralingam to tell them how to rob the Treasury which P did very successfully during Premadasas time. When Premadasa died remember the pillow cases full of cash that was found in his house. Well that’s the loot from the Treasury the bulk of it stolen by Paskaralingam himself. RW is well aware of this. He got hold of Paskaralingam since living abroad and set the scene for robbing the country on a scale not seen before. One prong was to attack the Central Bank for which he got down Mahendran. The other was the Treasury through Paskaralingam Whose modus operandi was simple. He simply took away the senior management level at the Treasury leaving some 40 odd junior section heads to report directly to him. The scene was set for P to do as he wished. He would ask the Revenue section to transfer say Rs 50 million to Establishment section. He would then transfer from establishment section to a special account in the Treasury to which only he had access. After that it was plain sailing.Money was coming through like water out of a hose and no one knew excepting Premadasa who got a share of the loot.
People of Sri Lanka await more robberies from the Great Bank Robbers.

Yahapalana apologists saying that the recent elections were only local Govt and has nothing to do with the National Govt. Agreed. My question is why then are the Yahapalana mob shivering in their boots as if doomsday is upon them. Why is there no effective govt? Are they expecting a big tsunami? Why is Sirisena acting like a cat on a hot tin roof? Why is Ranil walking as if he got a carrot up his”you no where”.? Why is the sacred baboon Sampanthan looking as if he is about to throw up the thosai he had last nite? Why,why, why??

The gossip news is the SLFPyers were asked to resign from the government. In that case, it will become a UNP government. Then UNP will be forced to establish its majority in the parliament, though it needs not to do so now. Unless Unity Government collapses, Ranil need not to establish his majority. If somebody establishes their count, it doesn’t matter unless there is a No Confidence Motion victory, which is not possible.

As we earlier mentioned last week somewhere else,, the election result of LG where a Sinhala Chauvinist Dictators sponsored party won, and the hung parliament with the majority number is not in hung in the parliament are as lesson for the Colombo Diplomatic Circle rather than to local leaders. We kept insisting to TNA to exit the Jan, 8th 2015, Sep 2015 elections. But TNA wouldn’t agree. We insisted to the diplomatic circle not to attempt to forge a national unity government after Sep, 2015. It wouldn’t agree. But latter, without properly reviewing his work’s success, Ex State Secretary of America declared that he had pushed Myanmar and Lankawe to return to democracy. We still insisted that there no shortage for the word democracy in Lankawe, but it is completely rigged to function as dictatorship against Tamils. We attempted to explain that long trend prospective of Lankawe is racist dictators. If he had been in power, Ex. Secretary John Kerry would have had chance to take a fresh look at his policy blunders toward Lankawe. It is said, now too, America is one of the partners out of the four main countries attempting patch together the broken Yahapalanaya. But that is to close the stable door after the horse has bolted. Old Royal may be considering jumping on to the seat now is not desirable, considering next month is the UNHCR’s next periodic sitting. But, obviously they are in full control of Yahapalanaya-dictatorship, but not the people- the democracy.

Woooooo, a UNP government is on the way? That is the last thing people want. Stupidity at its best. I dare say there will be violent riots against the UNP government very soon, if this corridor talk of President has given the approval to Ranil to form a UNP government even by donating a few of his Ministers to UNP, is true.
    .
Country will go from chaos to anarchy if UNP formed a government against people’s wishes.
Are you this stupid Mr. President? Have a backbone to at least continue your fucking Yahapalanaya government without letting UNP to form a government. People will not tolerate this. When they start riots, you will never be able to control and there will be a bloodbath. Is that what you want? Don’t you know people are vehemently against a UNP government?

Oh, please be educated before writing nonsense. Learn to read and understand other people’s comments before judging them. If you have done that, you would have noticed that I have used “ing” here.
In British English, the word fucking is one of the very few legitimate words that is mostly used as an adjective to emphasis annoyance, anger, disgust or exclamation. As clearly seen I have used it as a superlative adjective. There are a number of other usage of the word such as a noun, a pronoun, a verb, an adverb, a conjunction, etc., etc.
I don’t write essays here. I only write comments and they are my first thoughts. Even then I saw an article with the word sh… and I don’t remember you expressing your objection to that word.
As obvious, you know only one uncivilized meaning of the word F and it is not my fault.

The country is going very well with the constitution, not all the religion are equal. Certain religion and the language is above……

Punch ups in parlument, school principals has to knee down to politicians, uni students becoming trade union, mafia doctors in ransack, ignoring the poor, all these major parties in shameless criminal activities, law and order only apply for ordinary folks, day light robers and murderes are freely to sit in once privileged Parliament.

No creation of jobs for youngsters, the city becoming narcotics hub, vulnerable women hsve to abounded the children in order to bring foregion exchange,
Education system same mess as politics, no certainty for future generations,
Most of the rich try to look for dual citizenship to safe guard
Instead of developments they have to lease out the resources
You can’t move anything without santhosam
Look at the mentality Muslims has to chase to Saudi, don’t mention the tamils here
One thing for sure is they are safeguarding the adopted religion and becoming the champions

Basil/Mahinda Rajapske laid the foundation to bankrupt the couuntry. They did all the projects that would make money for them. Politicians are not exposing them because they all plundered the country when the opportunity came for them. Besides JAckal Oppostion is linining behind Rajapakses to save their butxs and their wealth. Ranil and Mahinda Rajapakse are one and the same. I can not believe the self respect and reputation of Ranil. HE covered the bond scam for three years. He clarified instwead of allowing to be questioned. Now, the PCOLI report is hidden from the public. Maithripala sirisena is not showing his leadership probably he is scared his garbage in the closet would come out. SRI LANKAN VOTERS BECAME DOGS another time. LOOTERS BECAME HONOURABLES, and leeches will not leave.

If we had these elections scattered throughout the year as in the past, no one would have bothered to total the number of votes. With the present system, MR and the clan got an opportunity to make a big noise. Without grasping this, sadly, MS, RW, UNP, and SLFP are now dancing to MR’s tune.

SLFP may be thinking that their resignation may bring down the cabinet. Then they may hope to dismiss PM. Cabinet number is the focus point of 19A. Cabinet age is not affected by 19 A. If the coalition party leaves, 19A is not asking to dissolve the cabinet, but asking to reduce the cabinet. Further, if coalition party leaves it does not affect the term of PM. He may even need not prove the majority to uphold his position. Even if his party become minority it cannot directly cause his job, but eventually like in budget or something. Theoretically even if his party and his coalition party both may quit, but if his government is not dismissed with 2/3 he needs not to quit his job. 19A deal with the PM’s age separate from Cabinet, though dissolving of cabinet under Article 48(2) can make him to lose his job. But I do not think ruling coalition quitting is a Statement of Government Policy change.

I think the 8th grade SLFP Modayas did not understand the 19A. The idiots who think Federalism as separation even after Supreme Court denies it, how the hell going to understand the Ranil’s cunningly woven 19A. Thero had kept the SLFPyers in the dark by continuously writing Meethotamulla stuffs. Thro like imbeciles guys are no match to Ranil.

Ranil without even having a clear majority tried to bring in federalism and secularism abruptly by appointing a discarded former LSSPer. He also created a reverse discrimination .
This was the reason why the majority Sinhalese rallied round to send ranil to political wilderness forever . Ranil even can not administer the economy properly , and he has lost his marbles if he ever had so. It is the 30th time that the public has rejected him.
UNP must refrain from castigating Sirisena , Because Sirisena was made the presidential candidate merely due to the fact that UNP leader is a lame duck and can not contest a presidential election . He only knows to wear a coat and a tie with a pair of trousers . Even the 19th Amendment has created certain uncertainties with regard to It’s dissolution at a time of political anarchy . We can now imagine what sort of an anarchy the so called constitutional proposals are trying to bring in .
UNP must find a viable leader somehow discarding RW. Otherwise these issues will remain forever .

Fight for Survival: This is a fight for survival by two big time crooks – Mahinda and Ranil. Serving the country is the last in their minds. Mahinda wants to save himself and his family from 10 years of misdeeds while Ranil wants to save himself from the repercussions of the Bond scam. That is the meat. The rest is just Masala.

Slap Party’s 2018 Hollow LG Victory, 19A and the mixed electoral system.
Politicians and analysts stayed not touching many subtitles within the last two weeks. Main reason is they too became busy to swing their hands throwing punches in the tumultuous brawls that broke out in their own contest of “who won the election” in Feb 2018. Here in CT Thero, Malinda, Rajeewa like Slap Party propagandists were immensely success n misdirecting the analyst in understanding the true nature of the victory.
The Slap Party margin of victory was unexpected as the UNP hired polling agents overblow the expected UNP’s victory. Even before the election, a reasonable victory to “Slap party SLFP” line was expected as this is LG, not Central government. UNP has been historically controlling only a handful of Cities and towns. But the election was for 3i5 locals. The number cock was turning the tail to UNP side. It was only at last minute that the self-destructive fiery competition started within the ruling partners UNP-SLFP. So the portion that SLFP should have split from Slap Party (votes for Old Kings Personal Popularity) did not take place. But SLFP successfully split a marginal 13% of the UNP votes. Here is an important point is, even if the New King is success in having Ranil fired and installed Karu, his fate and SLFP’s fate remains in question. If any time UNP (whether under Ranil or Karu ) starts to work to rebuild UNP, New King is losing the current 13% also(roughly). On the other hand if he had saved a 5% from being transferred to Slap Party, instead of Slap Party stealing the entire support base of SLFP, That part he could hold up to next election. Basically, the SLFP is now dead and no longer needs Old Royals to worry about of splitting from SLFP.

  • 1
    1

In other word, because the entire voter base of SLFP is transferred to the Slap Party, SLFP is only gas filled balloon, nothing inside. One of the earlier fears of Old Royals to recognize their own Party Slap is that may end up of SLFP split into two and that could cause them never to win any election against UNP. Now there is no rational in that fear. Now if Old King is not willing to lead Slap Party, it is he wants a shadow called New King to hide from UNHHRC, but is has nothing to do with Mass’s recognition of SWRD’s SLFP.
While Old King is pretending like he is not impressed by the LG victory, the younger generation being excess in the exerting the weight of the victory, most probably because of not being able to sense father’s concerns. Slap Party has refused to give a hand to SLFP to get out of the National Unity crisis. By now, there are all indications that SLFP has lost in all challenges it took against UNP. It appears it may quit the Unity government. If it does that, SLFP would the only looser out of this LG election. When New King had opportunity to crush Old Royal and acolytes and start a clean and fresh SLFP, he goofed it. But when SLFP quit Unity and surrenders to Slap Party, there is no chance for them for any prospects. Already, in the Arc of Slap Party, there is no room for anybody other than for Old Royals and extended families. SLFP is not voyaging anywhere in the Slap Party Arc but be marooned. That was one of the reason New King quit SLFP that time. If he tries to get back into the same situation, then he lacks ability to learn. So once again to repeat, whether it is Karu or Ranil is the PM is not changing the fate of New King.

  • 1
    2

New King’s only hope is approaching Chandrika to bring back peace between the UNP and SLFP and strengthen the National Unity government.
The victory is marvelous not because Slap Party has destroyed UNP, its real enemy. But it had got transferred the SLFP voter base with a single flick. So practically Old Royals has not gained any advantage over UNP for any EP election. They have permanently mishandled that opportunity. It doesn’t matter Old Royals control the Slap Party or Slap Party and SLFP or keeps only SLFP, Old Royals winning an EP election is now dwindled. Old King’s focus is on three matters. . Manage the divide and rule to win EP election, manage UNHRC, Manage SLFP and Slap for maximum family benefit. As he had lost the minorities and this election has shown winning additional Sinhala Buddhist can turn out to be hard, he has to find out what additional racism can create non existing additional Sinhala Buddhist so that they will give him the votes. The problem on that is the Joint opposition’s voice is weakened by the official Opposition, TNA in the south. In the past, TNA’s full support to Yahapalanaya is leaving an opinion in the moderate Sinhalese mind, that UNP is being fair to TNA that is why TNA is not opposing the UNP. Right or wrong, they feel like this the reconciliation they looked for and they are not interested changing their Id to Sinhala Buddhist ID. The disenchantment of Tamils on UNP is not in their vision. Their thermometer does not extend to feel NorthEast, but stay Colombo with TNA. If TNA had been a wiggling or convulsing their opinions might have been different. So successfully creating additional Sinhala Buddhist with moderate techniques are not possible, without bringing in pogrom something big like that.

  • 1
    2

The fear of UNHRC to sit in official opposition and organizing something big like that is limiting what the Slap Party can get in the next election. So Old king did not dance a lot for the hollow victory, unlike Thero or Malinda or his younger generation…
Further, as prudent politician, Old King understand his hollowness of victory because though in about 75% of local bodies were won by Slap Party, it cannot even 25% of the Local bodies without UNP. That is big challenge Slap Party has to overcome before the inauguration date of (15/03018) of the local bodies. This completely an unexpected pain in the neck after all the so much acclaimed victory. Whatever could be the outcome on that, but the entangling in Local Bodies with UNP is going to affect Slap Party’s prospect in the Central election. Because, the Slap Party has no ways to improve the plight of the discontented voters of Yahapalanaya who have moved to Slap Party with hope. After two yars, when the election comes, probably they will be back again with UNP, disappointed with Slap Party whom they voted this time. Old Royals do not have the opposition Leadership to create any more dent in UNP support. They exaggerated impact of the Local Councils ability to solve Central’s problems like cost of living to steal votes. They are not really in the central government to deliver to the expectation of the mass. All what they have done is lured Slap Party it in a Confronting Unity position of the Central situation by winning the puny Local election. It is like a small boy saw a fire cracker and lighted it and threw. It is about to blast. He is looking for fun. But in reality it is not a fire cracker, it is dynamite. We don’t know if the boy will survive from of this silly mistake.

Why can’t the politicians let the current/incumbent government run its course? The future can be decided at the next round of Presidential and Parliamentary elections. Parliamentary instability is not good for the nation. There are many positives that the former regime and the current regime are both responsible for; there are numerous negatives of both sides. Fix those damned things and try to act grown up will you?

Most of you have not even completed 12th grade; you want your privileges kept. That is why if you ran the risk of losing your useless ministerships you baulked. You want to have the cake and eat it too. Gone are the days of people quitting like NM, Colvin quit on principle. Shame on you; be you UNP, SLFP or SLPP. A lot of you grab all the privileges, you give out jobs at government institutions to your cronies to help them and they all think the state coffers are their’s to help themselves. And now in the USA too we have the same situation. Shame Shame Shame.

The foreign governments that interfered in the 2015 Election are unhappy with the course of events and are back in business, pumping in huge sums of money to influence the election results; even media outlets that did not take a sycophantic line are now receiving money in the form of advertisements.

CT might be manipulated too. We know some of the major groups have been approached by USA and India.
