Prelude To The ‘Long March’ In Tamil Nadu

By S. Sivathasan

S. Sivathasan

First Prime Minister’s Critical Remark

Jawaharlal Nehru answering a foreign journalist said in the late fifties, that India had not made the necessary sacrifices for her independence. Unlike China we never had a ‘Long March’, he added. The March referred to is that of the Red Army’s flight to the hills, pursued by the Kuomintang forces in the mid-thirties. It covered a distance of 5000 miles in 368 days with a loss of over a lakh of Communists and their sympathizers.

In Tamil Nadu, committed cadres of the BJP and youth have stirred into action in recent years. They are passionate about the cause of ridding Tamil Nadu of the curse of DMK and will penetrate all segments of the state. Politically the mission is educative, enlightening and change oriented. This interaction will last 300 days with needed intermissions. Ahead of the Lok Sabha election in April – May 2024, BJP is poised for victory.

SWRD’s Keen Observation

SWRD Bandaranaike with truthful cynicism had said only turkeys in the backyards of Galle Face Hotel, shed blood for Ceylon’s independence. Freedom on a platter with no passion for economic growth or social change resulted, only in youth eruptions in 1971 and 1989. Convulsions on the Tamil side called the thirty-year war, dislocated the economy. That too led by the youth targeting ethnic freedom, yielded no results. The fourth one in 2022, was led by the youth and those from the middle classes employed in the private sector. They eschewed violence and acted with decorum targeting a ‘Regime Change’. It was realized and was a substantial gain though not a complete achievement.

‘Dravidian Model’ Tragedy

DMK and ADMK are obverse and reverse of the same coin. For fifty-six years they have both been alternately in the seat of governance. Their great contribution to the forward march of the state is valued and much appreciated. Corruption in the form of bribe taking, commission hunting, depriving quality from performance and limitless nepotism laying the polity prostrate have turned  the people against both governments. Their itch for accumulating filthy lucre was ever waxing and never waning. How well the Poet had said “The evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones”.

The lesson learnt is that the most banal image of the DMK doesn’t suffice  by itself to unseat that government. The same is true of the ADMK and both have prospered with mutual recrimination delighting both sides. BJP remains unsullied enough to haul the ‘Dravidian Model’ well over the coals. The process is launched and will not stop till the goal of obliteration is reached.

Developed languages have a strength peculiar and particular to each one of them. Tamil has it from ancient poetry to modern prose. Tamil Political leaders honed these skills till they surged to leadership positions. Alliterative prose and rhymes to match, have a certain rhythmic cadence which sway the collective mind and sweep the audience off its feet. CN Annathurai, Karunanidhi, Nedunchelian and several others kept their audience captive with their oratorical prowess. The captives turned into pliant voters from late sixties and in later decades they became slavish mercenaries.

BJP’S Frontal Assault

When parties of all hues succumbed to the easy path of buying  votes with ill-gotten money, DMK was at all times the highest bidder. Hot on their heels was AIADMK. The BJP the most recent   challenger to corruption, defiantly stood up.  From the beginning of 2023, a frontal assault has   been made and sustained against the worst offender, the DMK. Commissions and bribes which flowed incessantly for over half a century and the overflows in their billions, found sanctuaries even in foreign climes.

Amit Shah and Annamalai

Tarnished DMK couldn’t call the sullied AIADMK black. Herein lay the protective armour for both. Most studiously BJP in Tamil Nadu has researched on the ramifications of the ‘Dravidian Model’ plunder and made bold to expose embezzlements in Rs. Trillions. With List 1, DMK is already dithering. List 2, to be made public shortly, will make it prostrate. Rigor mortis will set in when further lists follow and credibility among voters will be lost completely. Electioneering will then be a lame duck exercise for DMK. To accomplish this 11 more months are available.

As of now these are the gathering clouds. To add greater weight to the stormy weather, the Home Minister Amit shah has done a whirlwind tour in Tamil Nadu last week. He apprised the people of the incomparable work done by Modi Government in the last 9 years of his tenure. Tamil Nadu is now a greatly changed state in its social and economic conditions he added.

The DMK in its blissful ignorance repeatedly queries, what has Modi government done for Tamil Nadu? The question is so framed by Stalin as to present a negative picture that nothing was done. The disinformation has been dissipated by Amit Shah with forceful answers. In the same vein the state leader Annamalai presented convincing facts and authentic statistics. The citizens of Tamil Nadu and of India were informed of unprecedented infusion of funds in the state by the centre in the last 9 years.

National Health Insurance Scheme

An extremely helpful innovation for the nation was the National Health Insurance Scheme introduced in September 2018. The scheme wholly funded by the Government, benefits 40% of the most vulnerable sections totaling 550 million citizens. Coverage per family, per year is up to Rs 5 lakhs. As of now in Tamil Nadu, 8 million 600 thousand people have availed themselves of this scheme.  Annual intake of medical students has doubled with 1600 new seats in Tamil Nadu.

Defence Corridors

In the first year of Modi governance, two Defence Corridors were established in Tamil Nadu and Uttara Pradesh, when Nirmala Sitaraman was Defence Minister. Huge success is recorded in manufacture and while imports of military hardware have reduced, exports are on the increase.

Only two significant areas are mentioned. Virtually every sphere of developmental growth has registered exponential expansion in the 9 years of Modi governance. The huge target planned for   a $ 5 Trillion economy by 2024, may not be realized. This is due to the global devastation of the prolonged Covid disaster. But even in this area of challenge, enviable record is scored in the swift management of the disease in India and outside.

What’s now and What Next?

On 15th April 2023, Annamalai released List 1 of culprits accused of looting the state of Tamil Nadu. Multiple state institutions such as the CBI, IT Department, National Investigating Agency and Enforcement Directorate are jointly on the job of investigating several names that are already published with amounts amassed. The ‘Long March’ is planned to start on 9th July 2023 and is said to start from Rameswaram. When it moves Northwards, it will gather great momentum.

In the last few months, multiple agencies from the centre have done a thorough investigation and a minister of the state cabinet is said to be remanded for two weeks. He is reported to have embezzled several billions. The net will reach for many more. The voting millions will be informed in the course of the ‘Long March’ about the escapades of their ministers for no less than 52 years.

“Freedom on a platter with no passion for economic growth or social change resulted, only in youth eruptions in 1971 and 1989.”
One may say that 1971 had an economic dimension.
1989? Was it not full blooded racism in the driving seat? What did it have with the grievances of the youth?
Why will not add the Tamil insurgency with breaks?
As for the author’s soothsaying, it may be two misses in a row.

As the BJP has turned its attention towards South India, it is now considering PM Modi to contest from Ramanathapuram constituency and Nirmala Seetharaman from Madurai. It is a smart move and will give more strength to BJP and Hindus and Akanda Bharat doctrine. It will also benefit other BJP election contestants in Tamil Nadu. A happy message can be signalled not only to the people of Tamilnadu but also to the people of India by combining the issue of Kachaitivu and the problems of the fishermen of Tamil Nadu. DMK’s Dravidian model has become ridiculous in the eyes of the people. The installing of Sceptor from Tamil Nadu had thrilled the Tamils. Definitely it will be a turning point in the political history of Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile DMK is doomed with the arrest of Senthil Balaji and even M.K.Stalin appears to be in shiver over the Metro Project. Great job done by Annamalai by releasing the Lists. People have become vigilant and BJP is certain to be a dominant party in Tamil Nadu after 2024 election.

Ayathury, where on earth do you get your information ?? Modi from Ramanathapuram and Nirmala from Madurai ?????? Doesn’t matter, they still may lose their deposits. Let Annamalai first win a seat on his own, so that, rest can think about contesting. Do you have the count of visits, Modi and Shah made, prior to loosing Karnataka elections ?????? Fortunately , TN people are much smarter than what you and the author think.

        chiv,
The scenario in Tamil Nadu is changing after the arrest of Minister Senthil Balaji. Thereafter Stalin took revenge in arresting Annamalai’s Secretary, but without notice. People in Tamil Nadu became aware and lost faith in DMK. Moreover, Annamalai had cornered Stalin when he protested over CBI’s conduct. Meanwhile BJP is considering some some Ministers to contest in Tamil Nadu. Since Nirmala Seetharaman has done a lot to Tamil Nadu and is popular, she is likely to contest in Tamil Nadu. Modi is very popular in Tamil Nadu for giving priority in installing the Sceptor. The next target by the CBI is Rasa and Kanimozli and even T.R.Balu is not ruled out. All these are corrupt politicians and people are eagerly expecting them to be arrested. Do not worry about Annamalai who is certain to win at the next election with a thumbing majority. Do you want some more startling news.

Ayathuray, like most of your opinions, it’s all assumptions based on incidents took place in past 1 to 2 weeks. 1) Annamalai cornered Stalin ???? 2) Nirmala is popular in TN ???? 3) I agree about corruption, but that includes BJP too. BJP supporters are dead against renominating their current party president ( aka Mr. Percentage , not me google to find out who gave this name ) Nalin kumar.K in coming LS elections. Do you know why ??? 3) What if I told you, I knew Annamalai as IPS before becoming politician, 4) Rasa, Kanimozli, Maran, Chidambaram ??????? Please tell us something we haven’t heard or seen yet and don’t keep us in suspense anymore, lets know the rest of your startling news ?????

DMK is only keen on making money for themselves. Corruption is in their unwritten manifesto. Because of their corruption, they are under the thump of Bjp now and earlier under Congress. Karunanithy’s corruption is immeasurable. That is why he stopped fasting when confronted by the Central Government over his ‘boru’ show for the Tamils of Sri Lanka during the war. Stalin has drawn into his fold another rogue Balaji knowing very well his background in the AIDMK
Not that BJP is in any way better with regard to corruption. BJP is in an advantageous position because of its Central Power.

            chiv,
Now there is a news item that Indian currencies are in use in Jaffna according to Wimal Weerawansa. If this is true, then it is a great achievement for the BJP to lay a foundation for the creation of Akhand Bharat. Now will there be corruption in Sri Lanka. Rest you can imagine.

The writer of this article never ceases to amuse me. So is the jester Ayathuray Rajasingam. Both are in the same boat dreaming in technical colours. It is not surprising that Sivathasan who is a high-caste Hindu has embraced the Hindutva with both arms. He and Rajasingam are in good company.

‘Brahmins are Superior’ said LS Speaker Om Birla. This is nothing short of Nazism propounded by Adolf Hitler! Hitler belied in German racial superiority over other races. It rejected liberalism, democracy, the rule of law, and human rights, stressing instead the subordination of the individual to the state and the necessity of strict obedience to leaders. It emphasized the inequality of individuals and “races” and the right of the strong to rule the weak.

In Tamil Nadu the BJP is hanging to the coat-tails of AIADMK. The 4 MLA seats they have in TN Assembly is entirely due to AIADMK support at the polls. Its electoral support base is no more than 2%! Without AIADMK support the BJP (TN) would have come a cropper. If AIADMK is also corrupt as DMK then why on earth did BJP forge an alliance with the AIADMK?

The BJP stands for One Nation, One Language (Hindi) One religion (Hindu) at the expense of other minority languages and religions. This is while the Indian constitution is secular in character.

      Thanga,
When Stalin wanted to go to Bihar there were slogans ‘Stalin, go back home. Stalin must realize that the thorn he planted is sticking to himself. Now I firmly say DMK will lost all seats at the 2024 elections.

There is a typographical error. Please read as DMK will lose all seats in the 2024 elections.

Ayathuray / Sivathasan, could you please answer first to Thanga’s reasonable question ” why is BJP keeping company with corrupt AIDMK” ????? when Annamalai him self accused Jaya of massive corruption, just few days ago. (AIDMK warned Annamalai and BJP @ Center, threatening to break up alliance) . By the way, every time Modi visit Kerala , Malayalis in unison tell Modi to” go back home “???? They even create special apps just for Modi , so that Malayalis living worldwide can join the fun. FYI, Rahul got elected from Wayanad, Kerala, before BJP found ways to disqualify him. Do you think BJP can win Bihar election without the support of Nitish Kumar ?????

If DMK is corrupt, the Modi’s government has all the investigating agencies to probe corruption and haul them before the courts to face charges. The fact is the BJP, being the ruling party, is facing multitude of corruption charges on all fronts.

Corruption has increased at an alarming pace for the past 4 years of BJP government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, The opposition party Congress has released a list of corruption cases under Modi government.

The cases, according to Congress, include mining scam, Goa housing loan scam, MP admission scam, fake currency scam, LED bulbs scam, and others.

As the Modi government has a total control over the media, and most journalists in India are also corrupt, the corruption cases are not being reported. The level of corruption has increased manifold in Modi’s government. Besides unchecked bureaucratic and political corruption, Modi himself is also facing serious corruption charges.

Opposition parties in India are up in arms against the government, as they are demanding a thorough inquiry into the alleged corruption deals of Modi.

Although no inquiry against the political bosses in India can reveal the truth, opposition parties including Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist), and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) have demanded thorough investigation in the case.

All corrupt politicians are only in the paper- non has been adequately punished even after the change of governments. All are in the same boat so they wouldn’t ROCK THE BOAT.
