Presidential offspring Rohitha Rajapaksa assaulted Rugby referee Dimitri Gunasekera today (5th May) at the Havelocks Grounds in Colombo after the Navy lost a qualifying match.
The incident took place when the Police A team defeated Navy knocking the latter out of the Inter-club Rugby sevens tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union.
Rohitha Rajapaksa, the youngest son of President Mahinda Rajapaksa was captaining the Navy A team at today’s game. His brother Yoshitha usually captains the team.
Following the Navy defeat, Rohitha Rajapaksa picked up referee Gunesekera by the collar and assaulted him in full public view, eyewitnesses say. The attack on the referee only ceased when Yoshitha Rajapaksa intervened, even slapping his younger sibling when the latter refused to break up the altercation.
With referees refusing to stand to protest against the assault, the tournament was suspended for over 45 minutes. Finally, following a meeting of high level officials with the referees the tournament resumed. Both Rohitha and Yoshitha Rajapaksa were seen regularly in discussions with the referees during the rest of the evening.
The game of Rugby in the country has been severely politicised by the Rajapaksa family in recent years.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second son Yoshitha is the captain of the Sri Lanka Rugby team and the Navy Sports club.

This happens while the rest of the sri Lankan society is getting used to life without judges who are capable of adminitering justice. Nothing to be surprised.

British Royal kids are worst but Sri Lankan Royal kids are well behaved and brought up well to reflect the good qualities of their parents.(LOL)

The apple does not fall far from the tree. Young Rajapaksa obviously learns from his father and uncles, that the only way to get your own way is to resort to violence, to make it happen.
Yoshitha seems to have put him in his place.

Like father, like son! Navy team should be diqualified anyway becuase a non-navy outsider is playing in the navy team. This just shows whats ort of thuggery this boy is learning and practising. There is a saying that what “mahaeka” does the kids do. Setting a disgraceful example in public, they fall in the same group as Mervyn the Vermyn’s “kolla”.

…He is not Mervyn the Vermin’s “kolla”. Guess who, and keep on guessing??

In the contrary .. I think this is all a well staged drama going exactly as per script.. Next chapter on the script is that they will suspend / Ban Rohitha Rajapakse from rugby perhaps for an year or even life and the president will support the decision … Everyone will applaud and commend the president for the brave decision … He will end up being the HERO!
Has anyone seen Rohitha playing rugby.. He is a crappy player and no one is gonna miss him.. He will continue to race cars !!

PRESIDENTS SON ASSAULTING A REFEREE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ANY COST.
NO PARDON OR NO EXCUSE FOR THE SHAME BROUGHT UPON THE PRESIDENT.
Does not the President have enough problems on his hands??
Food for the Diasspora and the IC.
Arjuna did not attempt to punch Darryl Hair when Murali was repeatedly noballed. But Arjuna was punished for his actions.
Lets see what the President & the diciplinary Committe of SLFRU would do & what action would be taken?

Its all about breeding dude!
You don’t get a cat, dog or horse without checking on lineage. Why should it be different for human’s? And, it shows…….
Ignore at your own peril. Modernity has brought about a complete breakdown of social norms and structures. Everything and everyone is validated by money and nothing is sacred anymore.

My Friends from the majority Sinhalese,
This is time to show your civil courage
Hopefully you know what it is.
/
Anura / May 7, 2013
Vasu,
If someone start requesting, even from these educated CT readers, for donations of money/time or basically ask to come forward for some worthy cause related to what we generally agree here, you will see that most of us who do verbal support here will start getting thin down or completely disappear.
This is including me who will try to find VALID reasons not to come forward or donate to support the cause.
This is common genetically inherited behavior of Sinhalese. Indian may have similar genetic behavior, but great leaders like Gandhi, Neru and others follow their footsteps, helped to infuse some bravery to some Indian to come forward ..
Now I realized my genetic issues, so I go an extra step to be brave in the future…… Count on me…

Didn’t some wise person utterd these words long time ago~ “The greatest tragedy that could happen to a country is the silence of the majority”? As there is no opposition in SL with leaders who have backbones, I guess the time has come for a non-violent revolution by the masses to send these Rajapakse thugs back to the hell-hole they came from where they can rot!

These refrees are crooks, anybody can buy them for 5000 rupees.
Somebody should’ve done this kind of thing years ago. Dimitri,Kodagoda, D.Nimal
and many others deserve a sound thrashing, anybody with any kind of following in
rugby in Sri Lanka know that. Furthermore, as a Royal ruggerite myself we are honour
bound to support a Thomian ruggerite in distress.

Thomians young and Thomians old,
Thomians staunch and true!
Like the serpent keen and wise,
Harmless as the dove,
By the cross we’re knit in one
Holy bond of love.
We rejoice in victory,
When our foes we beat,
We have learnt, when fortune frowns
How to take defeat,
All unfriendly rivalry
From our lives we bar
To the College therefore sing
For all we have and are.
When into the world we go
For our life’s career,
As the call of duty sounds,
We will answer clear
Onward to the goal we press,
Guided by our star.
To the College therefore sing
For all we have and are.
Esto Perpetua
The Blue, Black and Blue forever!

They condemn english, yet they try to embrace everything that is western!..what a joke. Class & style cannot be bought..it has to be bred!!

Pls. kindly note that the School by the Sea has nothing to do with this particular episode at the Rugby 7’s? Once a person leaves the respective School, the School is not responsible for that persons behavior, it is the Parents Responsibility!! This rule applies to all the Schools in the island, so let us not tarnish our respective Schools for incidents that does not come under the purview of the School.
