Prime Minister Ranil Wickeremesinghe’s Address To The Nation – Full Text

Venerable Maha Sanga

Venerable Priests of All Other Religions

Friends

On 8th of January 2015, 62 Lakhs of people of this country got together as a common front to re-establish democracy in the country and to re-establish peace and reconciliation. We rallied together, against corruption, fraud and thuggery, and at the same time to economically develop this country.

8th of January 2015 all the political parties and the forces including Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha maha Thero and other priests, Civil society as well as former President Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunga got together and made Maithreepala Sirisrena the President of this country. Thereafter, I was appointed as the Prime Minister and we continued as the Government. In August 2015 after the General Elections I became the Prime Minister as the Member of Parliament who commands the confidence of the majority of the Parliament.

Our Government functioned as a National Government. We took various measures to re-establish Democratic Freedom in this Country. We appointed Independent commissions. Through the enactment of Right to Information Act, National Audit Act, we created the democratic freedoms which we never enjoyed in this country. We Protected human rights of all. We established the Freedom of Media. We provided various relieves to the people. We increased the salaries. We have implemented mega development projects to economically develop the Country.

Friends,

Yesterday afternoon President Maithreepala Sirisrena addressed the Nation and levelled few allegations against me and the cabinet. I refuse all those allegations. We all know that the powers of the President of this country were curtailed under the 19th amendment of the Constitution. According to article 42(4) of the Constitution the member of the Parliament who commands the confidence of the house should be appointed as the Prime Minister. In his address to the Nation President Sirisena said that in view of the political crisis, Economic crisis and assassination plot against him the only option left to him was nominating former President Mahinda Rajapakashe as the Prime Minister.

According to article 42(4) of the Constitution the Member of the Parliament who commands the confidence of the house should be appointed as the Prime Minister. Accordingly, I wish to express my regret to President Maithreepala Sirisena declaring that he nominated the Prime Minister who has no command of the majority of the House. He is talking of assassination plots to cover up his misdeed. He tells stories even a kid would not believe.

In the history of Sri Lanka, we never heard of a crisis situation like this in our country. What happened on last Friday was an illegal, anti-constitutional and opportunistic act. The ill effects of this act were visible immediately. The incidents took place at ITN, Rupavahini and the Lake House during Friday night indicated what is going to happen to Freedom of the Media in this country.

The solution for this unfortunate situation prevailing in this country lies with the Parliament. Honorable Speaker, by a letter has informed the President that the prorogation of Parliament is against the traditions. Today, all political parties and civil society are requesting to summon the Parliament immediately. International community has informed to act within the available legal framework and the Constitution. Therefore, I would like to earnestly request honorable speaker to summon the Parliament immediately.

The instability prevailing in this country is not good. We witness today the problems people have to face due to this situation. The era of queues has commenced. The Government machinery has come to a halt. The economy we controlled with greater difficulty has crashed.  This unfortunate situation is affecting adversely to the future of this country and future of our children.

I would like to clearly state that United National Party, all the other parties belong to United National Front and all other political parties represented in the Parliament are standing firm to re-establish the democracy in this country. We will never allow anti-constitutional dictatorship to rule this country.

Not only people of this small island, rest of the world is with us at this moment. I would like to finally request from all of you to forget political differences and rally around us to re-establish the democracy in this country in order to ensure a better future for our younger generations. We request Honorable Speaker to summon the Parliament immediately. We can save our country from this unfortunate and difficult situation only through re-establishing democracy within the Parliamentary system.

Thank you.

Hon RW, I don’t like you. But at this moment the whole nation should rally round you to save this country from Sirisena’s undemocratic, unconstitutional moves. Though he’s the president, he still has not been able get rid of his Grama Sevaka thinking. Our country is in jeopardy. MR will soon send him under six feet.

      Ravi,
I agree with you. I don’t like Ranil or the unity government’s inaction to take proper measures for the promises they made during the 2015 elections. President Sirisena himself is also responsible for that failure. If he is a genuinly believed that this unity government is not fit for purpose he should have resigned his post and give the opportunity for an election of President. People would have had the opportunity to elect Mahinda or his representative as a President. Further, if he believed that there was a murder attempt by Ranil then he should have asked full investigation into that matter. At this point I would like to remind us that he accused Mahinda Rajapakse made several attempts to murder him after he became President. He never thought of investigating that accusations during his period.
This is completely a political coup joined by Two war criminals, two jointly sold most of Sri Lanka to China, two jointly abducted and murdered number of Journalists etc. We should think about the country, not two individuals. We think about 22 million people ofthis land, not about two thugs.

Sir, we brought you and MY3 to sort out our problems, but after nearly 4 years, we are left to listen to you both’s stories in not getting along, while nothing has been done to our problems :-(
    .
Mistake is ours trusting in a marriage where the partners have differences starting with their lifestyles .

It’s is work of some thugs who wanted to capture power by any means ..
M&s has no hope at all.
He did not do any good thing ..
He did not let the cabinet to act as they want to ..
    He protected all criminals .
4 forces must act wisely and they should not become impartial on this issue ..they should not come an agent of dictatorship..
Forces must let politicians; AG; and parliament sort out this issue ..
Any force acting impartially should know they act against law..
Now; they may come under command of President and yet; they should wait until parliament is summoned …
Impartiality of forces will put the country into dark age .

” WE WILL NEVER ALLOW ANTI-CONSTITUTIONAL DICTATORSHIP TO RULE THIS COUNTRY.”

    Thanks Mr. PM.
Some or how, after occupying the UNP forcefully for 40 years, you are realizing dictatorship cannot be allowed. You earlier said when on Nov 16th, if they prove their majority, you would agree with Donkey Trading.
You refused to investigate criminals and forced the country to slip into anarchy. Now, somebody is capturing that opportunity and creating dictatorship. It is your fault. I don’t still believe even if this crisis is sorted out, you can be corrected. (Sobitha Thero died because of you and New King- and you take responsibility of his death too).

You established “Yahapalanaya” means impunity to all kind of criminals and Law Breakers. You brought in a law to save the Master thief’s $18B. People are not going believe you. But they look forward it is your duty to see democracy is restored. You do that please.

Please instead of stop with this, democratically UNP should get out to the Road now and pay debt for the people from their money you all fattened all these time. Pls bring back their democracy.

In the opinion of the rest of the world that Buddhism seems to bring harmony, peace and non violence. Although they preach it no one seem to practise it. This what’s wrong with our tiny country. People are greedy for power. About time gallible people of Sri Lanka cannot fathom it. Surely isn’t there someone better than these idiots to rule that beautiful country. Ones who are there are running the country down to the ground. Open your eyes and ears.

We should be smarter than this. If someone accuses Ranil of plotting to kill someone, we would be foolish to take their word, especially when they admit, they have no proof.
We have seen plenty of unsolved murders, white vans, and journalists killed and threatened. So why take the word from someone obviously on that side? How about an investigation before going against the constitution? Sirisena and Rajapaksa are dishonest, and totally untrustworthy, their history will show that.

It seems some Sri Lankans long for Rajapaksa to be back so desperately, they are willing to put the country in jeopardy, and go against our constitution. Where are the grown ups?

Mr. Prime Minister, Ranil W: I still prefer to call you Prime Minister, not withstanding my strong criticism of your inability to lead a “Government”. Your reference to “Constitutional Provisions” and “Legal Arguments” you submit in your favour at this moment of your being “Ousted” could be correct and would be resolved in coming days and months. But let me ask you, how you elected to “IGNORE” the very “Constitutional Provisions” and “Legal Arguments” when the present President appointed you the “Prime Minister” on the January 9, 2015 with only 45 seats in the Parliament? Did you not know, that there was a Prime Minister holding that position LEGITIMATELY and you were “Appointed” PM in contravention of the very Constitutional Provisions” you now speak of? For you LUCK, the then Governing party – “ULF” did not contest that decision of this President in that Parliament. Let me tell you: You are the ARCHITECT of this crisis. Can you please submit your side of the story to some of the MAJOR allegations the President directed at you and your “Team”. Please start with the President’s address starting with the “BOND SAGA” and various other allegations relating to your handing of the Economy etc….etc… Do not stop by saying : “Even a child will know those are lies”. We know how and what you did during the last three years as the PM to give full PROTECTION to the “ROGUES” who have even given an “Ultimatum” to leave the Temple Trees. You never wanted to heed the warnings given by the PEOPLE (sheer out of frustrations) at the Local Government election in February and correct the course of the Government. Now, I am of opinion that “LUCK” is casting a “Fortune” again on you, in that, MR has “Walked” into a “TRAP” without waiting till 2020. If MR had the patience and foresee the future to WAIT this little time, you would have had the “GREATEST FALL”. My best advice to you is to “RELAX” and “TAKE IT EASY”. .

What all have to agree including those anti-Ranil, is that if not for Ranil Wickremasinghe, there will be no Democracy in the country today. MR would have destroyed all pillars of Democracy, for the Rajapaksa family to run the country for a very long long time. Give the Devil his due and we can only expect a set of new faces to be introduced to politics, that becomes the bounden duty of RW to do so in the next five years.

How can Prez Sirisena feel after runing this amok.
See, if he has some differences with RW, that is one thing.
But those ministers like Rajitha, Ranjan, Harin and all UNP men that worked diehard to protect his bum 3.5 years ago.
HOw can a human being with sanity react so ?
He could do it in a good manner. Why should he choose the man against whom good governance govt held investigations for various high crimes.
All these handlings and the lawyers that worked for those investigations, would have to stay mum today, since FAKE premiership offered to MR from back door destroyed everything.
Surely, these buggers would buy several other men from UNP next days. Our people would not think twice but betray for selfish gains.
All in all, I wish MR to be taken by NATURE. That will then the entire problems are solved. This man is a curse to srilanken democracy.

Ranil is the biggest traitor. If he had gone for a “federal” solution with the LTTE, there would be no “Sri Lanka” today. Ranil should resign (voluntarily) from politics and never show his face to the public again.

ranil scuttled any federal solution that the Tamils might have got from chandrika,FYI. Anton Balasingham called him a cunning fox.Anyway Prabhaharan was not interested in federal solution.Eelam and nothing but eelam was his motto and he said that if he ever betrayed the tamils by going for less than eelam then the tamils should kill him.So don’t try to taint ranil with federalism unnecessarily.

When the cry went out for an international war crimes investigation it was Mr. Ranil Wickramasinge who said with the support of Sampanthar and Sumanathiran that Sri Lanka had the mechanism to investigate the thugs the Megalomaniac Mahinda Rajapaksha and his Psychopathic brother Gothabaia Rajapaksha. Now it is the same international community to whom you are crying out for help. That said I do you’re the better of the two evils and I hope you get to keep the office.

I would further like to remind you of one of your early promises that you will never speak Mr. Wigneswara, this was very unbecoming of an experienced politician like you and I hope you’ll amend your ways accordingly. Senile Sampanthar and the side kick Sumanthiran will not be there for much longer.

In the history of Srilanka we have not heard of a robbery of this nature where the CBSL was looted. All procedures went haywire. The coalition got cracks everywhere in every step on a daily basis which led to the current state of affairs. It was a total departure from process in the so called yahapalanaya governement. All I want to ask those who say the PM MR’s appointment is unconstitutional is – as to where they were when the CBSL robbery was highlighted by certain media organizations on a daily basis; couldn’t they have called it unconstitutional then and taken immediate measures to remedy the situation?people got fed up and lost faith in the government of ‘good governance’. Needless to say more.

I suggest is most of that viable solution of majority of democracy is Not that inside Parliament ,
it has go out of chamber to seek People WILL and Mandate of right to vote.as quick as possible .
Give power of sovereignty to exercise to votes elected REPUBLIC policy makers at FULL assurance enter into having GENERAL ELECTION sooner than later?

The Voice of real democracy is RIGHT to VOTE earliest possible date will be reflected and guarantee democracy of Island by current government under MR Cabinet. We do want change of Democracy way reflected aspiration of majority interest of Islanders. That is day of politics of democracy.

Ongoing crux of Tragedy of democracy is that UNP of Ranil Wicks has looted not only public Funds ..he has extended to looted RIGHTS norms of democracy enjoy by our PEOPLE of Lankans over 70 years.

RW and CBK that UNP current ruling System is corrupted, but democracy is an era has reached to certain maturity . We want redress and revoluatiozation of Democracy should be upside-down is our urgent task of Governances .

Sad to witness the calamitous politics of Sri Lanka.

70 years of independence have eroded the forward march for the betterment of Sri Lanka. Gutter politics of political leaders is progressing to destroy even the very important stability brought by the ousted (cocktail) government that had the unenviable task of managing the economic mess created by its predecessor with the heavy Chinese debts.

Mahinda failed to act like a statesman and reduced himself to a petty parochial politician. Since this government came to power, he has shown his animosity relentlessly to subvert their due responsivity govern. Right thinking people must rally round Ranil to uphold democracy and to establish good governance in Sri Lanka.

Let this impasse pave the way for a good future for Sri Lanka.

Rajasigham Jayadevan to ….realized your outlook is that different in by motion of Globally.

Not that China debt by Sri Lankan are due is very small portion of total debt of $50 billions out of that less than 9% present of our GDP is concern .
It is not burden to Our Economy by having enough rooms to be expanded from S 85 billions to $ 300 billions will be possible next 10 years mean year of 2030 at least.

We can achieve GDP that target next 10 years period of decade. … Sri Lankan
So debt paying a) debt-rate, b) growth of GDP, c) stock market of IPU issues will settle by debt our nation within next 10 years.
Well balance creditworthiness of Island it has reached upper limits in terms of the debt GDP RATIO will decreased.

Indeed Strategy of Development in my approach is sustainability of path of Capitalism that shifted to rapid growth of Industries, Agriculture and Servicers of ICT( Internet Communication Technology ) related enterprises of business will created New Jobs .
While Global Value Chain an open New Industrial revolution next 10 years to against Neo-Liberal economy advocated by UNP of political leadership it is outright overcome out dated prevailing crony capitalism headed by RW and CBK .
Developing China is inevitable and immieanit, even that USA want lunch of by “Trade WAR” protection against of Free Trade which that it will doom to failure. Growth and Trading will served for Used value and Exchange values of assist to rapid pace of Economy of Island as well .
