Prophet Muhammad & His Message

By Reeza Hameed

Today marks the death anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. It is an appropriate time to ponder over the man and his message.

Allama Iqbal, thinker and poet

Allama Iqbal

The edifice of Islam is built upon the basic belief that ‘there is no god save Allah, and Muhammad is His apostle’. It is a statement that is whispered into the ears of every new-born and the dying and uttered on all possible occasions by Muslims all over the world. It is part of the call for prayers five times a day.

Allama Iqbal, thinker and poet, sings the glories of the Prophet in the following words:

“ Tis in the forests and the hills,
And on the tranquil plains,
On the seas, in the arms of the waves,
In the roar of hurricanes;
A music heard in China’s towns,
Morocco’s desert song,
And hid within each Muslim’s heart
It makes his faith grow strong
How I have made this glorious name
Beyond all thought sublime.”

Not a learned man

The Prophet was not a learned man. Indeed, there is no evidence that Allah chose his prophets from among the learned. It does not mean he was illiterate, as is frequently said about him. The Prophet, if he was illiterate, could not have engaged in the transaction of business and managed caravans. The Prophet admonished every Muslim to seek knowledge even if it meant having to go to China. It is hardly unlikely that he did not practice what he preached.

Allah did not send the Quran to be understood by the learned only. A book that is sent for the guidance of all mankind cannot be the preserve of the few. Nevertheless, men of learning- the ulema- have tried to appropriate the role of interpreting the Quran and to intermediate its meaning to the uninstructed. It is easy to forget the truth that Allah would never have revealed its truths only the learned. The message of the Quran requires no priesthood for its intermediation.

Did not work miracles

Prophet Muhammad did not claim to have the healing touch of Jesus nor turn water into wine as Jesus did; nor did he have the magic staff of Moses. He worked no miracles. In his own words, the greatest miracle he brought with him was the Quran.

Mercy and compassion central to Islam

The first principle of his message is the belief in one God. The message of humanism is inseparably bound together with his message of monotheism.

The Quran has numerous verses which refer to Allah and his attributes but it is directed at man and his behaviour. The Quran acknowledges pluralism. There is no compulsion in religion. Allah has created different communities on purpose, to try and test human beings in what has been given to them. It is His will that the people shall live in peace and harmony with each other.

The message of the Quran is one of hope but not of despair. Compassion and mercy are an ever present theme in the Quran. Hopelessness and the lack of trust in His mercy are condemned in the Quran. Even the sinners are assured not to be in despair of His mercy because Allah forgives all sins. Allah says in His Book: “My mercy encompasses all things.”

Mercy is also a quality of His Prophet, for we are told in the Quran that “to the Believers is he most kind and merciful”. Even a believer should aspire for, if not possess, mercy. The believers are those who are “compassionate amongst each other”, and “exhort one another to mercy”. Man is required to believe in Allah’s mercy and also practise it himself.

Socially relevant message

The Quran deals with the relationship between God and man and also between man and man. Social and economic justice is an essential component of the Quranic message. The Quran condemns the exploitation of the poor and the weak in the strongest of terms. Orphans and the vulnerable, the poor and the weak find a strong voice in its verses.

Islam arrived in Arabia at a time when it was deeply afflicted by a social malaise created by changes engendered by the transformation from a nomadic to a mercantile economy. The new economic conditions bred new values, and caused divisions in society which had been glued together by tribal solidarity and kinship.

The accumulation of wealth and power became the new credo in life, and greed replaced kinship and solidarity as the governing principle of society. The new conditions led to the exploitation of the weaker sections of the society, including widows and orphans.

Even before he attained prophethood, Mohammad displayed a passion for justice and a commitment to fight for the under privileged. He was in his twenties when he joined a league of Meccans who had entered into a pact known as Hilf al-fudul for the suppression of violence and injustice. They took an oath allegiance to go to the aid of the oppressed and seek restitution for the victims of injustice.

Social and economic justice formed an important component of his message. Social and economic justice is to be achieved by the distribution of wealth by those who have to those who are in need. To achieve this, zakat is made obligatory to all Muslims, requiring them to give away annually a portion of their wealth. Property and wealth are given as trust to man and accumulation of wealth for private use only is condemned. Allah has a share in what man owns and earns, which he is required to give away to the needy and the deserving. The Quran repeatedly warns that Allah despises those who do not honour the orphan, or neglect the needy.

He challenged the power of the oligarchy that controlled Meccan society which was getting increasingly oppressive. The Quran addressed the prophet thus: “we have not sent the Quran to you that you may live in anguish”.

The prophet was sent not merely to preach His message but also to change the oppressive social structure. The prophet could have lived the life of a fellow traveller and enjoyed the comforts that were on offer in Mecca. However, in his determination to fight an unjust and oppressive system that existed then, the Prophet voluntarily travelled to Medina. The Hijra- as this event is called- was an act of protest by the Prophet against the oppression, injustice and misery inflicted by the powerful mercantile clans of Mecca upon the vast majority of the people of Mecca.

The people of Yathrib invited him to be their leader. The two main tribes of Yathrib- as Medina was called then- had been at each other’s throat, but being fed up with their mutual rivalries and fighting, they decided to bury the hatchet. Preparations were well underway way to crown Abdulla ibn Ubayy as their leader and a diadem had been ordered for the purpose. The Yathribites changed their mind and decided to crown the Prophet as their leader and king. The Prophet could have easily got himself crowned as the King of Medina but he chose not to. He preferred to govern with the consent of the people. The Islamic state that he strived for he is not only one that is ruled with the people’s consent and for their welfare.

Egalitarian message

Though written in Arabic and sent to a man who spoke only Arabic, it was not sent to the Arabs alone. In Sura al Jumuah Allah says: “This message is also for those who will come after these people.  In other words, the Rasool has been sent to humanity at large, the present as well as future generations.”

Prophet Muhammad was the Seal of His prophets. Despite the putative claims made by some, Allah sent no messengers after him. The Quran is intended to speak to every generation that came after the Prophet. It continues to speak to us through its pages and its meaning can be ascertained only by reading through its pages.

After he settled down in Medina the prophet went about the task of teaching his followers the task of building a community together. He set an example in every way. He worked as a labourer, cleaned his own house and mended his own clothes. Membership of the community was not based on one’s affiliation to a tribe or being an Arab.

In his address made at his farewell pilgrimage, the Prophet said: “Oh people! All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, … also a white has no superiority over a black, except by piety and good action.”

You can shove it up your pipe. I don’t want to hear about Islam, I dont want to hear one more word about Islam. Take your religion and shove it up your behind. Im sick of you! What Quran teaches you is Kill homosexuals, cut the clitoris of women, put women in dark clothing, cut off anyones head who doesn’t agree with you. WHAT KIND OF RELIGION IS THIS?? WHAT KIND OF WORLD ARE IN YOU LIVING IN WITH THAT THROW BACK DOCUMENT OF YOURS WHICH IS A BOOK OF HATE. where ever you look on the earth there’s a bomb going off or a car going up in flames and its the Muslims screaming for the blood of the Christians or Jews or anyone they hate. They say its a religion of peace, but why don’t they proove its a religion of peace. Put down that book of hate for a minute and tell us why it says on Qur’an: 8.39 “So fight them until there is nomore Fitnah (disbelief [non-Muslims]) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone) it say if you see a stranger who is not a muslim, either convert him or kill him. Qur’an: 9:5 “fight and kill the disbelievers where ever you can find them, take them captive, harrass them lie and wait and ambush them” page after page after page its about a religion that teaches you to either convert of kill, a religion that says kill homosexual, kill the Jew, kill the Christian, kill the infidel, oppress women page after page and we are supposed to sit here and listento this rubbish about the so called “Peaceful religion”.

      Muddled messages.
There must be something fundamentally wrong with Islam.
Why do we have so many Islamic writers posting on CT their own interpretation of Islam?
And the articles are of miserable reading, stoning to death, vaginal penetration, witnessing vaginal penetration etc
No one writes here about Christianity or Hinduism!Or Judaism or Sikhism May be there is no need to.
An Appeal to CT editorial: we had enough of Islam and Quran.

“There must be something fundamentally wrong with Islam. Why do we have so many Islamic writers posting on CT their own interpretation of Islam?”

Islam is about 500 years behind Christianity. Christianity already went through the Muddled Theology 500 years ago, Sun going around the Earth, the Protestant reformation, the Age of Reason, The enlightenment, the Emergence of science, and Revolutions to displace with republican constitutions.

Islam is behind by 100 to 500 years, and going through growing pains. The Media and internet should accelerate this Process for Islam. Once. the dust settles, the Iblis, Satan following Wahhabis are their clones are accepted for what they are, there will be lees need for frequent reports on Stoning and Islam.

The irony is that the Quran does NOT recommend stoning. It is the Bible that recommends Stoning. So, it will take some ti,me for the Muslim idiots to future those out and figure the actions of the Devil, Satan, Iblis, just like it took some time for the Christian Idiots to figure things out.

There is nothing universal in the message of Islam or how it is practised. Look at the Sri Lankan Muslims selfish self centred backstabbing to the end. Everything only focused on them and their immigrant community that came from South India. They hate their own fellow Hindu and Christian Tamils and will do anything to destroy them and still their lands for their immigrant refugee community. To this end they will vehemently deny their overwhelmingly Tamil Dravidian origin and ancestry and pathetically claim and cling on to a fake Arab ancestry that only a few of them have in very insignificant amounts. Now do not want to acknowledge their own ancient 1000 year old Tamil Sufi Islam and have taken up to the desert Arab dress mode names and the cruel intolerant Wahhabi/Salafist form of Islam that comes from the deserts of Arabia, as they worship anything Arab. Despite the fact the Arabs have called them lowly low caste South Asian Hindu converts to Islam. First practice what you preach

RE: Prophet Muhammad & His Message:

Thanks for the informative write up on Prophet Mohamed.

Are people Following Allah as requested by Prophet Mohamed or the Iblis, Satan, Devil?

    1. “The edifice of Islam is built upon the basic belief that ‘there is no god save Allah, and Muhammad is His apostle’”

Q 1. Do you when this Statement or Verse came? During the Mecca Period or Medina Period?

    2. “It does not mean he was illiterate, as is frequently said about him. The Prophet, if he was illiterate, could not have engaged in the transaction of business and managed caravans. The Prophet admonished every Muslim to seek knowledge even if it meant having to go to China. It is hardly unlikely that he did not practice what he preached.”

Q2. Literate but not learned? What were the qualifications to be a learned at that time?

    3. “Allah did not send the Quran to be understood by the learned only. The message of the Quran requires no priesthood for its intermediation.”

Q 3. However, the Ulema and Mullah in order to show their value and power will say it needs interpretation. Have you heard about Martin Luther and the Catholic Church, The Pope, who was needed to interpret Joshua stopping the Sun?

    4. Miracles?

Q.4. Miracles are all marketing, Illusions.

    5. “Mercy and compassion central to Islam

“The first principle of his message is the belief in one God. The message of humanism is inseparably bound together with his message of monotheism”

Q.5. This is the Islam of the Meccan Period, the First 13 years. The Jews were not cursed, the Kuffar were not cursed.m However, there were only about 150 converts.

    6. “The first principle of his message is the belief in one God. The message of humanism is inseparably bound together with his message of monotheism.”

Q 6. Also Egalitarianism. Exception 1/2 Egalitarianism for women ans slaves. That was the culture of the times.

    7. “In his address made at his farewell pilgrimage, the Prophet said: “Oh people! All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, … also a white has no superiority over a black, except by piety and good action.”

Q7. So there is Equality ( if you are not a women or a slave) , egalitarianism, and non-racism, which is humanism.

Q8. So, it was the later followers who distorted the original message.

Like the Wahhabi, Salafis, Towheed, ISIS, ISIL, Deobandi, Taliban, Boko Haram and other varients

The Ulemam Imans, and the general Muslim populace just goes along with it…

They do not know God from Devil. Allah from Iblis, Satan, Shaitan.

By the way, Iblis, Shaitan is mentioned in the Quran 25 times. There is even a Hadith on the Satan, Hadith of Najd. The Satan has already appeared in Saudi Arabia and now appearing in Syria and Iraq the Najadis…

    Hadith of Najd

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith_of_Najd

According to two narrations in Sahih Bukhari, Muhammad asks Allah to bless the areas of Bilad al-Sham (Syria) and Yemen. When his companions said “Our Najd as well,” he replied: “There will appear earthquakes and afflictions, and from there will come out the side of the head (e.g. horns) of Satan.”[1][2] In a similar narration, Muhammad again asked Allah to bless the areas Medina, Mecca, Sham, and Yemen and, when asked specifically to bless Najd, repeated similar comments about there being earthquakes, trials, tribulations, and the horns of Satan.[3][4]

“O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Shaam. O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Yemen.” The people said, “O Messenger of Allaah, and our Najd.” I think the third time the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said, “There (in Najd) will occur earthquakes, trials and tribulations, and from there appears the Horn of Satan.”

    Reeza Hameed,

Interesting article. As a humble infidel, I find it very informative. Thanks!

Mercy, compassion & peace core themes in Islam, I have no doubt. But, only in theory. Unfortunately. Just words.

Such lofty ideas are diametrically opposed to the Islamic belief in one God. The message of monotheism. Where apostasy is punishable by death.

No wonder then Islam spread like wildfire. In a short time span of merely 1400 years.

It is mind boggling to me, over a billion people worldwide do actually subscribe to the fairy tale you have described. With no questions asked? Without ever seeking any scientific evidence. To anything talked about in this religious narrative.

To me it is all a blind faith. Nothing else.

Too bad millions have met a cruel death on the altar of religion. And continue to do so today. Will do so tomorrow as well.

Nevertheless, I recognize your right to believe in anything you want. I respect it. Will also fight to ensure you have that freedom.

I expect you will return the favour.

    Cheers!

Interesting Question. However, the Quran prescribes only 100 lashes, assume for both man and women.

So from where did the stoning comer from? The bible and other stuff that went into the Hadith from the Bible and other local traditions.

    1. The term ‘Ummi’ (Quran 7:157) used to describe the prophet actually translates as ‘gentile’ – i.e. a non-Jew (not familiar with the laws of Moses) in classical Arabic.

    2. ‘Ummi’ used to describe people who do not know the books of God is reinforced in Quran 2:78.

    3. ‘Ummi’ being used to describe ‘unlearned/illiterate’ would be nonsensical if applied to the contexts of its usage in Quran 32:20, 62:2, 3:75.

    4. The prophet being ‘Gentile’ is supported 29:48.

    5. The prophet could write (Quran 25:5) – the word used to describe ‘written down’ (iktataba) is the perfect active verbal form of ‘kataba’, which probably implies he himself wrote.

    6. The prophet could read (96:1-5)

See what Buddha said to Ananda, about Women: Avoid Them.

Is it because women do not have the Y Chromosome?
Or is it because, everything comes men’s imaginations?

      Y chromosome

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y_chromosome

The Y chromosome is one of two sex chromosomes (allosomes) in mammals, including humans, and many other animals. The other is the X chromosome. Y is the sex-determining chromosome in many species, since it is the presence or absence of Y that determines the male or female sex of offspring produced in sexual reproduction. In mammals, the Y chromosome contains the gene SRY, which triggers testis development. The DNA in the human Y chromosome is composed of about 59 million base pairs.[2] The Y chromosome is passed only from father to son. With a 30% difference between humans and chimpanzees, the Y chromosome is one of the fastest evolving parts of the human genome.[3] To date, over 200 Y-linked genes have been identified.[4] All Y-linked genes are expressed and (apart from duplicated genes) hemizygous (present on only one chromosome) except in the cases of aneuploidy such as XYY syndrome or XXYY syndrome. (See Y linkage.)

      Origin

The X and Y chromosomes are thought to have evolved from a pair of identical chromosomes,[11][12] termed autosomes, when an ancestral mammal developed an allelic variation, a so-called ‘sex locus’ – simply possessing this allele caused the organism to be male.[13] The chromosome with this allele became the Y chromosome, while the other member of the pair became the X chromosome. Over time, genes which were beneficial for males and harmful to (or had no effect on) females either developed on the Y chromosome, or were acquired through the process of translocation.[14]

Until recently, the X and Y chromosomes were thought to have diverged around 300 million years ago. However, research published in 2010,[15] and particularly research published in 2008 documenting the sequencing of the platypus genome,[9] has suggested that the XY sex-determination system would not have been present more than 166 million years ago, at the split of the monotremes from other mammals.[10] This re-estimation of the age of the therian XY system is based on the finding that sequences that are on the X chromosomes of marsupials and eutherian mammals are present on the autosomes of platypus and birds.[10] The older estimate was based on erroneous reports that the platypus X chromosomes contained these sequences.[8][16]

Thank you for this perspective. It’s heartening to hear Islam being described as a religion that stands for non-violence.

However, is that what muslims, and even Muhammad in his life time, practiced?

I have seen documentaries and read about how islam spread out of Arabia to north africa, and to India. Often islam was imposed on the people in these lands by force, after much violence. In north India many buddhist and hindu places of worship and educational institutions were destroyed, and in the Maldives the buddhist monks were massacred in attempts to impose islam and supress the native religions.

Also I have read about the split between Suuni and Shia brought about by murder involving Muhammad’s son-in-law.

What has Allah said abuot such atrocities?

    Dear Sinahalse Buddhist.
There is no compulsion in Islam. PEOPLE should have free will to choose faith..otherwise it would be meaningless. No one can change human heart except your conscience accept it. Islam spread in Africa and most part of ASIA through sufism and business people. No one forced the kings in Malaysia or Indonesia to accept Islam..In.Sri Lanka too Kings came very closer to Islam ..it was Portuguese colonisation stopped it…othewise..Sri Lankan history would have been different..
It was the message of mercy that attracted them to Islam .No follow all media or bias writers on Islam.they have portrayed Islam as a religion of violance..but opposite is true.

Dear S/Buddhist.. it would be better have four legally rather than many small houses as many people do it now. Look in the past all kings had more than 100 wives. still in some African do have many …It is true that Islam limted with four.tell me how many people could afford it.. Be honest.. take legal responsibilities for children

If men can be polygamous, why not allow women to have polyandry. after all there are women have needs and also have affairs with men. If paternity is a requirement. now DNA tests are available.

There are lots of discrimination against women according to Sharia. A man can divorce a wife without a reason and she will not be paid alimony. Imagine a man divorcing a wife at any time in her life, even if she is 60 and throwing her on to the streets. This is violence and if a woman has no independent income, she will tolerate whatever he says or does as otherwise she will have to fend for her self which is not easy if you have been unemployed for sometime. I wonder whether this is practiced in Sri Lanka

            That is a

If you have men polygamous children will know their fathers….but if women do like …each men could claim the rugtht for children .. or they may need DNA..what mix up and mess would be that..
You look no clear idea of family bond.

You are not capable to reply my comments. This is the way most Muslims reply when they are criticised. When they are confronted hard facts, they tend to shout at them saying various things without answering to the point. Otherwise they will even go all out to harass the person and say he is a Jew.

“If you have men polygamous children will know their fathers…”

Mother has to confirm who the father is.

“they may need DNA..what mix up and mess would be that..”

Don’t worry about the mix up let science and law take care of the situation when paternity is in question.

Love, marriage, adultery …. are personal matters. It is unwise for state to get involved in personal choices of individuals.

How about making chastity belt compulsory for women and men. This will render mix up, confusion, hypocrisy, capital punishment, single mother, stoning, ….. unnecessary.

Tell me why do Muslims throughout the world run away from their Islamic paradises in large numbers, including Porkistan where Iqbal was born and never run to rich Wahhabi paradise Saudi Arabia or to any other Islamic land but go the evil Christian west or to India or some other Muslim country to claim asylum and refuge. The first generation is grateful but their children then want to take over these lands, introduce Sharia and their Islamic nightmare in their new host lands and create chaos. Eastern Sri Lanka and parts of Mannar is a good example. The Muslims came here and settled as refugees a few centuries ago. Now want take over these lands from their fellow Hindu and Christian Tamils who gave them refuge by hook or by crook. This is the reason people do not like them and are very suspicious of them.

“Dear Amarasiri..I have been reading your comments in Islam..I think if you contue to learn Islam ..you will end up a true Muslim … ”

If there is one piece of data that says there us no support for Islam, Judaism and Christianity,as practiced today, it is Wahhabism and its Clones, Salafees, Towheedes, ISIS, ISIL, Talibans, Boko Haram, Deobandis,etc.. and the 2,000 years od Christian history, and the Jewish history before that.

      1. The Bible Joshua 10:13 and the Church said that the Sun went around the Earth, but later astronomers with data and observations proved that it was not correct.

      New International Version Joshua 10:13
So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.

      2. Do Atoms and Molecules Exist? What does the observation and data say?

Was there Revelation? Or, was it reason and observations?

Brownian motion and Data in Support of that.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownian_motion

Brownian motion or pedesis (from Greek: πήδησις /pˈɪːdiːsis/ “leaping”) is the random motion of particles suspended in a fluid (a liquid or a gas) resulting from their collision with the quick atoms or molecules in the gas or liquid. Wiener Process refers to the mathematical model used to describe such Brownian Motion, which is often called a particle theory[1][better source needed]

This transport phenomenon is named after the botanist Robert Brown. In 1827, while looking through a microscope at particles trapped in cavities inside pollen grains in water, he noted that the particles moved through the water but was not able to determine the mechanisms that caused this motion. Atoms and molecules had long been theorized as the constituents of matter, and many decades later, Albert Einstein published a paper in 1905 that explained in precise detail how the motion that Brown had observed was a result of the pollen being moved by individual water molecules. This explanation of Brownian motion served as definitive confirmation that atoms and molecules actually exist, and was further verified experimentally by Jean Perrin in 1908. Perrin was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1926 “for his work on the discontinuous structure of matter” (Einstein had received the award five years earlier “for his services to theoretical physics” with specific citation of different research). The direction of the force of atomic bombardment is constantly changing, and at different times the particle is hit more on one side than another, leading to the seemingly random nature of the motion.

The mathematical model of Brownian motion has numerous real-world applications. For instance, stock market fluctuations are often cited, although Benoit Mandelbrot rejected its applicability to stock price movements in part because these are discontinuous.[2]

Brownian motion is among the simplest of the continuous-time stochastic (or probabilistic) processes, and it is a limit of both simpler and more complicated stochastic processes (see random walk and Donsker’s theorem). This universality is closely related to the universality of the normal distribution. In both cases, it is often mathematical convenience, rather than the accuracy of the models, that motivates their use.

“CT needn’t be used for Dawah, unless one needs to reply to a misconceived comment. Limiting oneself here to discussing relevant and timely social issues is enough, don’t you think??”

CT is just one channel of the media. One should be able to discuss any subject, until the truth non-truth is sorted out.

The Value Proposition of each idea , theology, hypothesis or principle should stand on its own.

Does the Sun go around the Earth? Joshua stopped the Sun. Hadith says that the sun goes under Allah’s throne. Bible and Quran says that Adam was created from Clay or dirt, and eve from Adam’s ribs. Is that the reason why even is missing the Y Chromosome?

Then there are the Astronomers, Scientists and Biologists who have contrary opinions.

So, CT, should give the two opinions. Un the end, only the truth with support will stand out.

Yes Islam talk about peace…compassion …love

This is why all Jews..Hindus..Christians lived in arabia during 4th century were slaughtered and their women were raped and forcefully married to savage Arabs

This is why many Saudi women today have fair skin and european look…

Look at Malaysia where Muslims are destroying Hindu temples .even churches are not allowed to display holy cross outside …this is the compassion of Islam…Non-Hindu Malaysians who like to marry Malay chicks must became Muslims and suppose if they divorce he can’t change the religion …this is the human right teaching of fanatic religion.

Slavery was started by Islam and continue to this day …the price of 13 years girl in Syria is USD 300-

In fact Arab treat Asian Muslims as shits .because all were once Hindus .here these clowns like to dress and live like Arabs

Eastern Europe people were converted to this barbaric religion during Otterman rule by giving tax relief and money …In Asia Hindus were converted by sword…Even Persians were converted to Islam by force …..

Today 100% Islamic Maldivieans are using drugs supplied by Muslims …and fanatic Saudia Arabia is trying to bring Wahabism …

    Cheers

    Dear Chronic cough,

That’s not true. Islam does not ask anyone to be slain for his beliefs. Please do some research before rushing to judge Islam based on prejudiced perspectives. What terror groups do in the name of Islam is totally un Islamic. The UIS (Un Islamic State) and other such groups are abhorred and condemned by most Muslims around the world, as much as we condemn all violence by anyone, be they individuals, terrorist organizations or governments.

@Fatima (even Christian girls have this name)

      Learn to accept the truth..

Learn to change with the time…

World is developed to day and it is foolish to expect even the Muslims to follow 4th century teachings preached for Arab barbarians

No a single Arab country has condemned the latest Paris attack instead these thoppies celebrated this carnage secretly

Do you know what will happen if the western forces with modern armory enter muslims countries and shoot people at sight …even your God can’t save them ..

Haven’t you hear that just a week ago a Pakistani husband and wife killed people on streets and shouted Alla ho Akbar ..is this your religion teach.

Very soon not a single Muslim won’t be able to walk in the streets of western countries people will stone them to death

There is no place for this fanatic religions in this modern world..

In Paris police started to close Mosques ..very good step..the highest numbers of drug dealers ..criminals in the west are Muslims …what happened to your religion?

West must send these Muslims back to 4th century ….

      Cheers

” Do you know what will happen if the western forces with modern armory enter muslims countries and shoot people at sight …even your God can’t save them ..”

They already have massacred Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Syria. They drop bombs and send unmanned drones to kill innocent civilians, and hundreds of thousands of Muslims have died. Perhaps that is why some are retaliating, in protest to these killings and bombing their countries into rubble. The zionists in Israel have been urging the US to bomb Iran, but despite the interference of Nutty Yahoo the war monger, this time Obama refused to go along.

But stoning to death ,,cutting hans and heads were there among babarians Arabs from the day of this faith.

It is because of the America Saudi Arabia abolished slavery ….

It is because of America and Europe Saudi Arabia exist today else this land would have been part of Yemen or Iraq…

Never ever Western forces entered a cinema hall in an Arab country and shot people indiscriminately

It was the Afghan government invited USSR in1989 ..inside their country…Saudi and Qatar governments(???) invited America and allowed base for US.

It was the Saudi invited American troops fearing Saddam Hussain…

Go and preach the glory of your faith ..among people living in caves and dunks

This time west should send all Islamic countries back to 4th century …

Marx says”Religious suffering is at the same time an expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the feeling of a heartless world and the soul of soulless circumstances.”
When some one argue Islam is violent and unmannered, the writer says something else. This is because of wrong views. Wrong views give wrong impressions, wrong examples which lead to a chaotic situation. There is difference in between beliefs and right views. Judgements and reality in the society. What we see today is the real nature of particular religious thinking. Not what she preach in this article.

Islam, Muslims and Sharia were the subjects of deliberation in the CT columns during the last few days consequent to the judgement in Saudi Arabia on the alleged Adultery of the Sri Lankan woman. Hilmy Ahmed, Latheef Farook, Izeth Hussain, Mass Yusuf, Reeza Hameed and others who tried to enlighten the readers on the various aspects of Islam and Sharia in relation to the the judgement according to Saudi Arabian law were subject to various references, even vulperative remarks, by some who call themselves cultured or civilised. In the light of such references views of a few world-respected personalities on Prophet Muhammad (PBU), Islam are quoted below. It would be interesting to know the views of those who vigorously took-up issues with the writers named above have got to say on these views –

George Bernard Shaw – The Genuine Islam Vol.No.8, 1936.

“I believe if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring much needed peace and happiness.
I have studied him – the man and in my opinion is far from being an anti–Christ. He must be called the Savior of Humanity.
I have prophesied about the faith of Mohammad that it would be acceptable the Europe of tomorrow as it is beginning to be acceptable to the Europe of today.”

“The legislation of Quran will spread all over the world, because it agrees with the mind, logic and wisdom.” – Leo Tolstoy

What non-Muslim scholars said about Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him)

Nepolean Bonaparte – Quoted in Christian Cherfils BONAPARTE ET ISLAM (PARIS 1914)

“I hope the time is not far off when I shall be able to unite all the wise and educated men of all the countries and establish a uniform regime based on the principles of Qur’an which alone are true and which alone can lead men to happiness.”

      M.K.Gandhi, YOUNG INDIA, 1924

“…I became more than ever convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and his own mission. These, and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every trouble.” YOUNG INDIA, 1924

Lamartine – Histoire de la Turquie, Paris 1854, Vol II, pp. 276-77:

“If greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astounding results are the three criteria of human genius, who could dare to compare any great man in modern history with Muhammad? The most famous men created arms, laws and empires only. They founded, if anything at all, no more than material powers which often crumbled away before their eyes. This man moved not only armies, legislations, empires, peoples and dynasties, but millions of men in one-third of the then inhabited world; and more than that, he moved the altars, the gods, the religions, the ideas, the beliefs and souls… the forbearance in victory, his ambition, which was entirely devoted to one idea and in no manner striving for an empire; his endless prayers, his mystic conversations with God, his death and his triumph after death; all these attest not to an imposture but to a firm conviction which gave him the power to restore a dogma. This dogma was twofold, the unit of God and the immateriality of God; the former telling what God is, the latter telling what God is not; the one overthrowing false gods with the sword, the other starting an idea with words.

“Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?”

Edward Gibbon and Simon Ocklay – History of the Saracen Empire, London, 1870, p. 54:

“It is not the propagation but the permanency of his religion that deserves our wonder, the same pure and perfect impression which he engraved at Mecca and Medina is preserved, after the revolutions of twelve centuries by the Indian, the African and the Turkish proselytes of the Koran…The Mahometans have uniformly withstood the temptation of reducing the object of their faith and devotion to a level with the senses and imagination of man. ‘I believe in One God and Mahomet the Apostle of God’, is the simple and invariable profession of Islam. The intellectual image of the Deity has never been degraded by any visible idol; the honors of the prophet have never transgressed the measure of human virtue, and his living precepts have restrained the gratitude of his disciples within the bounds of reason and religion.”

Rev. Bosworth Smith, Mohammed and Mohammadanism, London 1874, p. 92:

“He was Caesar and Pope in one; but he was Pope without Pope’s pretensions, Caesar without the legions of Caesar: without a standing army, without a bodyguard, without a palace, without a fixed revenue; if ever any man had the right to say that he ruled by the right divine, it was Mohammed, for he had all the power without its instruments and without its supports.”

Annie Besant, The Life and Teachings of Muhammad, Madras 1932, p. 4:

“It is impossible for anyone who studies the life and character of the great Prophet of Arabia, who knows how he taught and how he lived, to feel anything but reverence for that mighty Prophet, one of the great messengers of the Supreme. And although in what I put to you I shall say many things which may be familiar to many, yet I myself feel whenever I re-read them, a new way of admiration, a new sense of reverence for that mighty Arabian teacher.”

Montgomery Watt, Mohammad at Mecca, Oxford 1953, p. 52:

“His readiness to undergo persecutions for his beliefs, the high moral character of the men who believed in him and looked up to him as leader, and the greatness of his ultimate achievement – all argue his fundamental integrity. To suppose Muhammad an impostor raises more problems than it solves. Moreover, none of the great figures of history is so poorly appreciated in the West as Muhammad.”

James A. Michener, ‘Islam: The Misunderstood Religion’ in Reader’s Digest (American Edition), May 1955, pp. 68-70:

“Muhammad, the inspired man who founded Islam, was born about A.D. 570 into an Arabian tribe that worshipped idols. Orphaned at birth, he was always particularly solicitous of the poor and needy, the widow and the orphan, the slave and the downtrodden. At twenty he was already a successful businessman, and soon became director of camel caravans for a wealthy widow. When he reached twenty-five, his employer, recognizing his merit, proposed marriage. Even though she was fifteen years older, he married her, and as long as she lived, remained a devoted husband.

“Like almost every major prophet before him, Muhammad fought shy of serving as the transmitter of God’s word, sensing his own inadequacy. But the angel commanded ‘Read’. So far as we know, Muhammad was unable to read or write, but he began to dictate those inspired words which would soon revolutionize a large segment of the earth: “There is one God.”

“In all things Muhammad was profoundly practical. When his beloved son Ibrahim died, an eclipse occurred, and rumors of God’s personal condolence quickly arose. Whereupon Muhammad is said to have announced, ‘An eclipse is a phenomenon of nature. It is foolish to attribute such things to the death or birth of a human-being.’

“At Muhammad’s own death an attempt was made to deify him, but the man who was to become his administrative successor killed the hysteria with one of the noblest speeches in religious history: ‘If there are any among you who worshipped Muhammad, he is dead. But if it is God you worshipped, He lives forever.'”

Michael H. Hart, The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History, New York: Hart Publishing Company, Inc. 1978, p. 33:

“My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world’s most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level.”
Sarojini Naidu, the famous Indian poetess says – S. Naidu, Ideals of Islam, Speeches and Writings, Madaras, 1918

“It was the first religion that preached and practiced democracy; for, in the mosque, when the call for prayer is sounded and worshippers are gathered together, the democracy of Islam is embodied five times a day when the peasant and king kneel side by side and proclaim: ‘God Alone is Great’… “

Thomas Caryle – Heros and Heros Worship

“how one man single-handedly, could weld warring tribes and Bedouins into a most powerful and civilized nation in less than two decades?”
“…The lies (Western slander) which well-meaning zeal has heaped round this man (Muhammed) are disgraceful to ourselves only…How one man single-handedly, could weld warring tribes and wandering Bedouins into a most powerful and civilized nation in less than two decades….A silent great soul, one of that who cannot but be earnest. He was to kindle the world; the world’s Maker had ordered so.”

Stanley Lane-Poole – Table Talk of the Prophet

“He was the most faithful protector of those he protected, the sweetest and most agreeable in conversation. Those who saw him were suddenly filled with reverence; those who came near him loved him; they who described him would say, “I have never seen his like either before or after.” He was of great taciturnity, but when he spoke it was with emphasis and deliberation, and no one could forget what he said…”

That is why All Sri Lankans are upset and angry with the Satan, Devil Following Wahhabis.

If Islam is the Tue Religion, as many Muslims believe, Wahhabis and their Clones will end up in Hell along with Iblis, Satan, Devil.

        Iblis, Devil (Islam)

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_(Islam)

The primary characteristic of the Devil is hubris.[1] His primary activity is to incite humans and jinn to commit evil through deception, which is referred to as “whispering into the hearts”.[2] The Quran mentions that Satans are the assistants of those who disbelieve in God: “We have made the evil ones friends to those without faith.

I appreciate that the Quran comprises the works from Allah and is meant for all mankind. Then why is it written only in Arabic, an archaic language understood only by a few in Arabia. I believe translations into modern Arabic or other languages is forbidden. Everybody learns by rote and choose their own interpretations.

I trust the Sharia Laws too are from Allah. If Allah is so merciful, why is it that these laws decree the stoning to death of adulterers, amputation for thieves and lashings for other minor crimes. In Iran recently, a boy of 8 was caught stealing bread and his punishment was that his arm be crushed by running a truck over it. If you can watch this video without shedding a tear at the anguish of this unfortunate boy, you are made of sterner stuff.

Finally, when prophet Muhammad was born, Islam did not exist, so what what religion was he?

I believe translations into modern Arabic or other languages is forbidden. Everybody learns by rote and choose their own interpretations.”

      1. “We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an so you people
may understand / use reason” (12:2):

The Qur’an is sent as guidance to all mankind. The language of Scriptures, as and when they are sent down to different generations and regions, is in the language of the messenger and the people who are immediately around him:

“We have not sent any Messenger except with the language of his people so he can make things clear to them. Allah misguides anyone He wills and guides anyone He wills. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise. (Qur’an 14:4)

Thus, for those people caught in the darkness of disbelief at the prophet’s time, it was a great blessing that Allah sent a messenger with a magnificent Scripture in their language, which they could understand and use their reasoning over.

The Choice was only Arabic, if Allah/Gabriel wanted to communicate to Arabs.

God communicated in Hebrew with the Jews, and Moses.

      2. “I trust the Sharia Laws too are from Allah. If Allah is so merciful, why is it that these laws decree the stoning to death of adulterers, amputation for thieves and lashings for other minor crimes.”

Was it Allah or was it Satan? According to Islamic Theology, Satan was given reprise until day of Judgement to mess things up.

Are the Saudi Wahhabies misled by Satan?

      3. “Finally, when prophet Muhammad was born, Islam did not exist, so what what religion was he?”

Probably like the other he was trying to convert. Kuffar.

“why west and east fear islam..”

In the Qur’an, Allah reveals that the creation of the human is a miracle. The first human being was created by Allah shaping clay into human form and breathing a soul into it:

Your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to create a human being out of clay. When I have formed him and breathed My Spirit into him, fall down in prostration to him!” (Qur’an, 38:71-72)

Nigerian muslim fanatic BooKoooHaraam kidnapped 200 Christian girls forced to convert them to this stone age sect at gun point then sold these girls as brides to 80 years old men….girls who have refused conversation were shot and killed..

In Syria another fanatic Muslim ISIS convert Christian minorities who are there for generations at gun point and rape then sell them …

Is this this so called faith teach?

Muslims can comment about other religions but others can’t comment about their fanatic ..barbaric ..culture and teachings ..indeed Muslims are living in fear thinking their people will go to other religions …if you have quality things nothing to worry about competition..

So you want others to follow this crazy ?

    Dr, Rifai

I truly appreciate your response, since it’s very rare on CT for a writer to respond to his commentators.

I do agree with you that from what I have read Islam spread in south-east Asia through trade (and I believe also into central Asia in the same manner). However that was not the case with its spread to north Africa and north India. These events were marked with much violence and racism. And my understanding is that Islam spread to north Africa during Muhammed’s life time.

Also you did not answer my question on what Allah said about the violent spilt in Islam involing Muhammad’s son-n-law. Did he condemn that violence?

I also understand that any religion can be manipulated by one faction or another to justify actions that others judge to be in contravention to the tenets of that religion. This is reality in how we humans interpret religious tenets.

There were plenty of christians who justified genocide during the colonial era, as well as slavery and the subjugation of women using religious writings. Some continue to assault homosexuals using the religion as a justification.

On the other hand, barbaric punishment is not always justified using religion. In Sri Lanka during the Kandyan period, the Rajasinghes used to push a spike through a person as a punishment for example. That is as barabaric as stoning one to death, or chopping off body parts.

Luckily for us Sri Lankans such punishments are a thing of the past – as far as our judicial system is concerned. I hope that they do not re-introduce the death penalty. We have evolved.

But yet, it seems some countries and societies such as Saudi Arabia have not. They still carry out these barbaric practices and justify it using religious texts.

I am glad for the muslims living in Sri Lanka, for they are not under Sharia law. I hope they are glad too.

I’m sorry for your primitive reading of Allah..probably you think about Allah as you think about your Loard Buddha..
This issue of Slit took place after Prophet died. ISLAM was completed with the prophet…Allah did not send his revelation after that to any one.so Allah did say any thing about it…it was a political issue created by some companions of the prophet after his death..it is nothing nothing to do with prophet..

        Dr Rifai.

“Allah did not send his revelation after that to any one.”

So no more Revelations after the revelations to Prophet Mohamed?

Why? Angel Gabriel is not available> Because Prophet Mohamed is no longer there? Can’t the Calif’s receive Revelations?

What about the Wahhabi King of Saudi Arabia? He Represents the Satan, Devil, and their coming is Predicted in the Hadith, as the Hadith of Najad?

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith_of_Najd

“O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Shaam. O Allaah bestow your blessings on our Yemen.” The people said, “O Messenger of Allaah, and our Najd.” I think the third time the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said, “There (in Najd) will occur earthquakes, trials and tribulations, and from there appears the Horn of Satan.”

Were ALL the revelations in the Quran from God? Any from Iblis, Satan? What about the Satanic Verses, Sūra an-Najm,verses 19 and 20.

There are numerous accounts reporting the alleged incident, which differ in the construction and detail of the narrative, but they may be broadly collated to produce a basic account.[4] The different versions of the story are all traceable to one single narrator Muhammad ibn Ka’b, who was two generations removed from biographer Ibn Ishaq.[5] In its essential form, the story reports that Muhammad longed to convert his kinsmen and neighbors of Mecca to Islam. As he was reciting Sūra an-Najm,[6] considered a revelation by the angel Gabriel, Satan tempted him to utter the following lines after verses 19 and 20:

Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-‘Uzzá
and Manāt, the third, the other?
These are the exalted gharāniq, whose intercession is hoped for.

Allāt, al-‘Uzzā and Manāt were three goddesses worshipped by the Meccans. Discerning the meaning of “gharāniq” is difficult, as it is a hapax legomenon (i.e. only used once in the text). Commentators wrote that it meant the cranes. The Arabic word does generally mean a “crane” – appearing in the singular as ghirnīq, ghurnūq, ghirnawq and ghurnayq, and the word has cousin forms in other words for birds, including “raven, crow” and “eagle”.[7]

            Dear Dr.Nass,
If you profess to know more about Islam, you are being delusional. You are a Muslim by accident of birth. If your parents were Christians, you would be Christian too. Your knowledge of Islam is common to most Muslims i.e. learning by rote and believing the spin the preacher puts on it according to his own prejudices. This is why we have ISIS, ISIL, IS The Taliban, Wahhabis, Alawwis and scores of other sects believing and practising vastly different edicts in the name of Islam. Is it any wonder Islam is reviled in most countries. E.g. France has suffered most by Muslim fanatics, yet they welcomed 35,000 Syrian refugees, irrespective of religions. Did Saudi Arabia or any of the predominantly Muslim countries welcome any refugee? You could take a page from Amarasiri and step out of your own prejudices and learn the truth about Islam.

            DR NASS

Learn Islam as a Subject. Ask the right questions.

            Then you will find that

Approx 1/3 of Quran is Meccan, and quite peaceful. The Jews were not hated. The Christians were not hated. The Kuffar were not hated that much. Over 13 years, there were only 150 Muslims. The Meccans chased them.

Then Medina Period 2/3 Quran. A Good part referred to Lew and running a society, and defense and offense.

This was success, because of survival, violence and the Arab tribal traditions of raids sand slavery.

The Other part of Islam Is Prophet Sunnah, way of life and the hadith.

In the end, Islam, the Quran was about 1/4 and 3/4 is Prophet Moh.

Another Question, did the Satan, Iblis mess up some of the Quranic Verses, liker the satanic Verses? Which Ones? Compare the worst Medina verses the Mecca Verses. One shoulkd be Able to Identify them.

Example: Suicide is nor allowed in Islam/

However, Al Queida and ISIS, the Iblis, Satan Followers recommended it.

So is stoning women to death.

So the Satan and satanic verses and actions, are there.

    Dear Dr. Rifai

It was my understanding that the Qur’an is valid for all time; isn’t that why it is still used, some 1500 years later?

So isn’t there anything in the Qur’an on violence related to splitting the creed?

Also you have not answered the question about the violence perpetrated in imposing Islam on the people on North Africa and North India.

    Why?

You must get out more. When you leave Islam, you are convicted of Apostasy and the punishment is death under Sharia Law. This is the reason that people who do leave Islam, change their whole identity for their own safety. I’ve just seen a young Somali girl on Youtube who had converted to Christianity and now lives in Belgium. When asked why her response was simple. In the Qu’ran it said “Kill the infidels” while in the Bible is said “Love your enemies”. Is it any wonder people are so fearful of Islam.

Lankan 3. You are indeed delusional. I am an atheist and don’t carry a torch for any religion but just quote facts as I read them. Why do you think the US Presidential candidate Donald Trump is advocating banning all Muslims coming to US and he appears to have a massive following ahead of all the other candidates? Muslims are being persecuted in China, Myanmar, Phillipines and scores of other countries and except for the Human Rights Watch nobody else appears to give a damn. The reason is simple. Terrorists like ISIS etc. are committing atrocities in the name of Islam and there are idiots like you making excuses.

    Dear Sinhalese Buddhist
Thank you very much your reply and I think that you need some elementary lessons on Islam.. Islamic message was revealed time to time for people since the time of Adam. I wonder if you believe in Adam and Eve or you believe Darwin theory of Evolution is another issue to discuss.. But the divine message was completed with the last prophet Muhammed. that message is preserved in the Quran and no need to have any prophet or message after that and Allah sent prophet Muhammad as a seal of all prophet… His message will be preserved until this world end… It is another issue to discuss,,,, You people think that man be just like dust when he dies… you do not think that man will be resurrected and questioned by Allah in the day of judgement.some of you think that man will be incarnated into form of dogs or cow or any form of animal once man dies … what a illogical belief is this? any how coming to your point.. if you want to see Allah message you read the Quran full with open minded you may get guidance.. it looks that you would like to see Allah’s presence in front of you to believe in Him? This is not the first time such question was asked.. Pagan Arab asked same question.. there is no difference between you and pagan Arab of 6th century… if You want to know about all powerful God to this universe…could you come to a firm conviction by two ways.. through your scientific reading of this universe or through reading of the Quran.. which is protected without any alteration.. The Bible has been corrupted by people…
coming back to African forced to embrace Islam… what a none sense you are talking about? When Roman empire was imposing taxes on people. In Roman Empire wanted Muslim army to free them from Kings? by the way, if you contention is right please go and tell all North Africans to go back pagansim? will they do it..If people are forced to believe it would be real.. once that element of force is gone they will go back to their original religion? Did you see such this in any Muslim country? why people in Muslim country choose to live by Islam.faith is somewhing that take places in human hearts.. with full will… not by force.. Please read Thamas Arnold book on History of Arab to find out how Islam was spread in Africa and Asia.. Do not come up with your imagination of false fact…
Quran is valid to all time and all age till this world ends … Read the Quran and you will know all facts about this question.
Quran starts in the name of most merciful and most compassionate 114 times and how could such book calls for your violence? probably you may have been brain washed by ISIS. there is no difference between you and ISIS if you are telling me Quran teaches violence .. The Quran is healing for human illness.. mercy to humanity, remedy for all illness.. guidance to all humanity… What else you want,.. but people with sickness in hearts can not approach Quran… clean up your heart and mind if you need to approach the holy QUran.. hippocratic and wicked people can not get guidance from divine message.. clean you minds from all dirts of communism, capitalism, secularism and atheism if you need guidance from Quran…
should need further information.. ask me please ..
