Rajapaksa Intimidates Chief Justice

By Colombo Telegraph

President Rajapaksa wanted the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) to meet him regarding the functions of the JSC, but the JSC, in an official meeting, has decided not to meet anyone regarding its official functions as such discussion would be unconstitutional. It is after this meeting that the JSC has issued a statement condemning the interference it faces, the Colombo Telegraph has learnt.

Chief Justice

The case against the Chief Justice‘s husband is being used to twist her arm, informed sources told Colombo Telegraph. “During the hearing of the Divineguma Bill, the Bribery Commission summoned him obviously to intimidate her. Yesterday he had been again summoned by Bribery Commission. It is obvious that the NSB deal is not being investigated fully, but the Bribery Commission and CID are being used to intimidate the CJ. If the government wants to investigate into that deal, they must also investigate into the conduct of Nivard Cabraal and Ajith Devasurendra, etc. This is a selective exercise”, said a senior lawyer who wished to remain anonymous.

The clash between the judiciary and the executive started with Minister Rishard Bathurdeen‘s attack on the Mannar Magistrate Courts. The President openly supported the Minister and got his close lawyers to defend Rishard. All judges struck work and lawyers demonstrated. A contempt of court against Rishard case is now pending in the Court of Appeal.

The Supreme Court’s determination on the Divineguma Bill was tabled in Parliament yesterday (18 September). A government-sponsored crowd – about 3000 were assembled in the Kalapola near Parliament – transported from various locations in about 40 buses, had been orchestrated, armed with anti Supreme Court slogans. Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene and Bandula Gunawardene were seen among the “protestors.” The Supreme Court decided that the Bill was unconstitutional and cannot be passed by Parliament without first being submitted to the Provincial councils for the ascertainment of their views.

There are disciplinary actions against certain magistrates including Aravinda Perera, a debtor whose name is in the CRIB more than 15 times. He was interdicted. He is known to be a close friend of Namal Rajapaksa. There were attempts to reinstate him but the JSC declined. Previously Rajapaksa, High Court of Tangalle (before whom Julampitiya Amare’s cases were taken) wanted to be appointed as a High Court Commissioner after his retirement. The JSC refused and sent him on retirement at 61 years. All attempts by the highest to keep him failed.

Judges Association is expected to meet today to discuss these issues.

Any tyrant brooks no nonsense from his vassals nor from his sycophants who enjoy life at his pleasure, and due his unfettered power.
This protest amounts to intimidation of the supreme court.
The court must order the persons who organised the protest,to appear in court and explain why they should not be held in contempt.
S.B.Dissanayake was senntenced to two years in jail for contempt.
    This sets a precedent.

This shows behind all the projects there are GOVT.VIP foxes who are ever prepared to gobble the carcass which ever way under any duress means. They bring down their goons to suppress even the JSC. It’s time every country loving citizen including the JSC reveal to the world how Rajapakse marauders plunder country’s wealth for their own benefit. Country’s Gold, forex, land and even poor peoples EPF money are disappeared and now the citizens are humiliated by the MR thugs.

The CJ should be asked to resign in any case! She has a conflict of interest.
The lawyers of Lanka should follow the Pakistan lawyers example and mobilize with FUTA and academics and other professionals for regime change of the corrupt, uneducated and uncultured Rajapakse brothers who are looting Lanka and destroying democracy and their equally corrupt, uncultured and uneducated cabinet of fools goons and leftist geriatrics..

How about taking up the usurping of the 17th amendment, unlimited powers for the executive for review?

This simpleton of a legal academic being propelled to the highest position in the judiciary itself was a serious mistake. If she was made of the timber of such great CJs like HNG Fernando and Neville Samarakoon she would not have allowed her husband’s NSB racket to taint her and the high office of the CJ. Sadly, she raised the hopes of nearly 8,000 families defrauded by Lalitha Kotelalawala (GKCCC mega white-collar thievery) tacitly promising to help them. Later on, they were ditched and are now engaged in prayer to get their life’s savings back from Lalith Kotelalawala and his team of master crooks.

CJ and her husband are the biggest crooks on earth. Together they have amassed a fortune for many generations. CJ will stoop to any level to get what she wants, just as she did to get fast promotions to her current position. Her uneducated husband without even GCE OL’s steals and rapes any institution he works for.

I am sceptical…this despecable temporary president will do his best to undermine the new independence of the SC.
History has shown though that Presidents do get kicked out.

In the likely event of a Parliamentary motion against the CJ all Parliamentarians, if they love their country and children, should either vote against it, or al least refrain from voting.

My Personal experience with the judiciary has been very truly shocking as the mayor of Kandy MC UNP I was removed by the Chief Minister on the instigation of the President as they were not able to capture power in KANDY MC I have been winning 4 times and last two elections I became number one that even after the president camped in Kandy ,opened his govt. restaurent. And I still won and became the Mayor. before the lat Presidential election he offered me to cross over and offered good Financial benifits and luxury vehicle and other perks. When the offer was turned down The Chief minister [ who is facing Bribery Charges as at today] was instigated by the President who cries his heart out saying he is fair to all peoples. To remove me saying inefficient management. I filed a writ, and FR.both were dismissed due to high pressure from the very top.The Present cj as a suprime court judge and chairperson of 3 judge bench dismissed the FR, this is retribution and they will pay more more dearly. WHERE ON THE WORLD A CJ’S HUSBAND IS GIVEN A POLITICAL APPOINTMENT. He is another culprit who is matching the Rajapaksa. clan well. There absolutely NO Justice.GOD save SRILANKA.
