Ranil Wickremesinghe Enslaves Himself & Will Ruin The Country Too!

By Hema Senanayake

Hema Senanayake

In classical economics it is believed that humans are rational in pursuing economic goals based on self-interest and attempt to maximize utility and profit. However, in behavioral economics, it is believed that people are not rational and sometimes they make decisions that are harmful to themselves. They argue this was the main reason behind the economic bubble which crashed in 2008, creating the Great Recession in 2008-2009 in the United States and Europe. Therefore, behavioral economists argue that people are not rational in making some investment or economic decisions. This weakness has been arising due to “human biases” as pointed out by Nobel Prize winning psychologists.

Ranil Wickremesinghe

I think, right at this moment, President Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe is making very irrational decisions that are harmful to his presidency and for the country too. Ranil Wickremesinghe is hell-bent to postpone the provincial council elections. Everybody knows this. His reckless actions enslave himself more, rather than liberating his presidency from the clutches of “Pohottuwa” MPs and will create political chaos prolonging the economic crisis.

Let me be precise on this point. Assume that provincial council election is held, and the opposition won it by a huge margin. From this moment Ranil’s Presidency will be liberated from the clutches of Pohottuwa MPs because they would know what will happen to them if the President dissolves parliament. Therefore, they would not put much pressure on him as they do now. This will provide an opportunity for the President to tame Pohottuwa MPs and to form a true “corruption-free united super democracy” of all parties to a limited period of time, possibly as per the guidelines set forth by the Maha Nayaka Theros at the beginning of his presidency.

On the contrary, if the election is postponed, President enslaves himself on Pohottuwa for the rest of the period of Gotabaya presidency and will create a huge political chaos. This is harmful for his political career and harmful for the country as the economic crisis will be prolonged due to political uncertainty. This is why I argue that at this moment Ranil Wickremesinghe makes irrational choices that are harmful for his presidency and for the country too. Do the weaknesses of “human biases” pointed out by psychologists play a role in his decision making? Perhaps, you might say, ask from Rajapaksas.

Ranil is the only politician introdued the system to recruit teachers via competitive exam during JR time in 1977. Prior to that, People have to beg at MP’s desk for days after paying money. He never sold part of SL to China. So , only the available President who could lead at this time. Former President like Srisena is collecting money from public to a pay compensation for the tragedy happened not during his time. Culprit escape and humble caught. Do we need to appoint Wimal Weeravansa who’s wife got fake passport using his influence. Others in the political circle are not fit to be a president as far as I know.

        DEAR sensitive readers,
Assume for a moment that the AKD-led groups will have a mandate, who are the donor nations under the AKD led government?

China? India? Cuba? Ethiopia? ? Rajapaksa- Shall we discuss in this valuable forum for the sake of our motherland, which destroyed the innocent but childish majority?
How will our foreign policy be then?

To be honest, holding local government elections is not the need of the HOUR. is it not similar to nurses and surgeons making love in a corner when the life threatening patient is admitted to the intensive care?
        .
AKD led groups are greedy at power-grabs, so as Medamunala dogs… this is what i see…. or would rebuild the nation for a better future because they are well disciplined, but it is not seen, will their ideologies be accepted by the grassroots people?
Would our animals-like majority ever grasp that they should respect ” law and order” ?

Our people have always been misled. But it is their own fault. The apolitical man, GOTA was elected by them 3 years ago…. as the “DIYASENA” of the nation – in the guise of “racism”.
As several people, including myself, PREDICTED, it was the nation’s backfire…. the same is the destiny of GOTABAYA, who is now like a defeated dog hardly hiding his tail behind his rear legs…. is not that so ????????

Was it not RW’s government that transferred on lease 85% of the shares of the H’tota Harbour to a Chinese company to find the money to settle loan repayments on various debts?
Who sold any part of the country to any other?
There is foreign ownership of large tracts of land in Sri Lanka. That happened under various leaders.

        leelagemalli ,

Do you seriously believe the J V P will make it ? I do not think so !
It is terribly muddy and only those who muddied the water knows
how to catch fish in that water ! I like those guys . They are well
organised , disciplined , well versed , well trained and truly honest .
And in my understanding , these are the qualities everybody in our
country is pretending to be seriously looking for ! But in reality ,
it is these same qualities that are allergy to them !! Remember , being
honest , genuine , well organised and disciplined , all are very
expensive stuffs that only a few like J V Pers can possess ! I don’t
honestly think , the country is still ready for a real change . J V P
might show some improvements but not really overwhelming .
Remember , we are talking about a country that is nose-deep
corrupt and the J V P is hell bent eliminating corruption ! That will
be suicide for the majority . They will choose an alternative
corrupt lot that they can live with !

          WW,
Thanks but from what I’ve read as YT commets, I see something going on and most would agree to give the JVP guys a chance next time.

It is believed that at least 20% of the country’s population still does not have internet (smart phones). So of course we cannot rely on the responses posted online.

Rural voters do not have a level of access to the Internet, which we can consider as the result of a poll that represents people from all walks of life in this country.
          :
I hope our “JVP” pundits in CT will reply you with constructive responses.
          :
Some are unforutnately as usual busy with the fears and private life of Dr. HA , leaving all essential topics aside.

A grain of sand will reveal that more than 99% of this country are corrupt and corrupt supporters.
They are also easily misled. I wonder how many go after sorcery yet today even if revolutionized information technogy provide whole lot of chances to clear the doubts. If SORCERERS govern the world, why is that only SOUTH ASIANS are caught with that ?

I agree with you that RW is probably the best out of a bad lot & I did have some respect for him but not any more. At the end of the day, RW is just another selfish SL politician without any integrity. He would do a deal even with the devil just to hold on to power but I am sure he can’t be that dumb to realise that the Rajapakses will discard him unceremoniously as soon as they can get back on their feet
He will have my respect when he has the guts to clean up & reform the political ‘swamp’ (as Trump would describe) that is ‘Diyawanawa’ is but I don’t think that is his objective.

Sorry, couldn’t complete the sentence. Sunak is capable & has made his own millions in business & of his recent predecessors, Blair, may have been dodgy & Cameron was only average but one thing that says all is that they were held accountable & corruption, if at all, is hardly comparable to the misuse & abuse of the Rajapakses. I have faith in the British parliamentary system but not SL.

            Sunak: let us wait.
He is not going to pull UK out of the economic mess that it is dragging itself into.

        Raj-UK ,

Even out of a bad lot , Ranil could be , not – so bad choice but never
the best of any lot ! My calculation is , Ranil was forced upon us
by both Internal and invisible external hands ! Gota’s remaining
years was made Trial – Dictatorship ! And Ranil suited Best , a man
with no spine ! Neither Military nor Civil ! He is a wasted force ! He
wanted to be a president , and he got it , never mind the cost . The
country couldn’t afford a New One which could be a better one with
a difference , so the spent force , still better , a used condom !

    Mr Hema Senanayake,

I know, you didn’t want to dwell on the GFC of 2008, as it’s not the focus of your piece but Ranil …….. but I would say, the people who benefitted prior to the crash knew exactly what they were doing and made extremely rational decisions in their favour: they just didn’t care about the final results/consequences or the aftermath.

I’m sure you know why The Glass-Steagall Act was enacted and why the act was repealed in 1999. Those were all ultra-rational decisions made by humans. The motives, Ah! that’s another thing, but very rational too! :)) …… I don’t want to go into details as it’s all self-explanatory. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/03/071603.asp

      continued

Ranil always had a blind ambition to be president ……. he doesn’t care how he got there …….. it was never about the country but about himself (few rational minds here would get it) …….. Now, he is wearing leather jackets on other jackets wearing sunglasses …….. going to see milk cows …… and a guy explains to him with utmost reverence how cows give milk …….. he is over the moon, acting all his childhood fantasies/dreams: MGR, Sivagi Ganeshan, Jayalaitha, Clint Eastwood all rolled into one. He is in his element! ……. The country is in the dumps!

      All rational.

For once, I won’t mention Native Vedda.

During Budget voting, Evil threatened the ruling Slap Party MPs that if they want their favorites as ministers on the expense of budget, they all may lose. Slap Party Heros backed up. Election expense act indicates the Slap Party stands on the Local government election. Evil alluring them to election and causing a bad defeat will make them rise and force Evil to run the government the way they want, on all occasions. If Evil rushes for an election after April 2023, the Slap Party will vote with the new winning party and will even change the constitution to get rid of Evil before his period ends. Evil has no hold on the government. Evil has no idea of how to salvage the dead economy. It is not just Evil, but anybody who wants that chair, will have to pray to China for mercy on them. Langkang Sinhala Buddhists can vote for Evil to come back to power, but there is no sovereignty left with them to ratify Evil’s administration. It is all only with China. In the past, Old Rowdies and Evil Emperor have been talking a lot of rosy talks. Jehan PhD has been marketing those in CT. But none of them were able to stop the snowball rolling down. Appe Aanduwa rascals were playing fool games on superpowers and now they have pawned the Langkang’s Sovereignty.

Lankan 100+++ No Wimal Weerawansa of fake( second ?) passport should be shot for that act of genocide.
Instead, we should get Ranil and his deviant friends to run this country for ever( hope he never dies) . This guy who with his shapely gay friend Mahendran swindled the Central Bank, reduced the UNP to zero seats, kicked out as PM so many times, never can get a popular mandate, is President with the Rajapaksa backing and now trying to prevent provincial elections should lead this country for ever ! !

Ranil is a universal Loser. He never ever won. This time it was a freak accident. He known too. Cunning Rajapakshas have used this desperate man and trapped him, he is in a big mess now. He just cant do a thing except perhaps trying to protect corrupt rajapakshas. He is hated by people, for that matter people hate all these crooks, without any exceptions. Besides, having ruined the country wholesale, it is not at all easy to salvage the country. Also the people too are utterly stupid, from north to south without any rational thinking or logic or analytical power. They are bogged down in their non existent history, traditions, relgions and race. With this mindset along with country in the hands of utterly corrupt, politcal thugs there is no chance at all. Ranil, with his last hope, doesnot care much about the outcome but perhaps happy to die as a president along with the country. There are no proper leaders in the country. Religion further making things more complicated. In this situation it is foolish for anyone to expect that the country could be slavaged.

Lankan 100, you may be right. I remember asking the same question to Mr Amrit, “right now if not Ranil then who ???” As expected, did not get any reply. ( I myself don’t have one ). Though Ranil may be the only option, doesn’t mean he is not capable of making bad decisions. After all this is not the first time Ranil is in power.

I rely on Human Psychology, personalities, character pathology, healthy / unhealthy traits, herd thinking / behaviors among others in treating patients as well to get a grip and make sense of
current domestic / world events , politicians, their followers, citizenry . . . . . More often, I find it helpful and reliable. (for sure, less disappointments). Based on science, our thoughts ( +/-) influence our emotions / feelings, and in turn our behaviors/actions. Human Psychology plays a big role in economy, markets, decision making, development, leadership, bias . . . . . pretty much everything we do. If at all , any success with my own economy is because of my understanding in Psychology rather than Economy. As long , Lanka’s politics and people (mostly irrational, illogical, crazy, than confusing) are concerned, I do not rely on anything but Human Psychology.

News reports say that the chinese have told the sinhalas that if they allow the Dalai Lama to visit sinhala land the chinese will demand immediate repayment of all the chinese loans!

So if Ranil listens to the chinese and prevents the Dalai Lama from visiting sinhala land in my view is that this is FURTHER ENSLAVEMENT of sinhalas by the chinese.

The Chinese demanded that the Dalai Lama should not visit the Dalada Maligawa ( meaning the temple or palace of the tooth. Maligawa is derived from the Thamizh word Malikai meaning palace) and the Chingkalla leaders listened. The Mahanayakes presiding from the temple of the tooth, also at one time demanded that no low castes or non-Chingkallams other than upper caste Kanyan Chingkallams, preferably Buddhist failing that Christian, can be the governor of the Kandyan Chingkalla heartland the central province. The Chingkalla leaders also listened to this. They listen to China and to the Mahanayakes and ruin/bankrupt country. However never listen to India, or honour any commitments or agreements, as they know Indian leaders are weak.

hanchopancha: Thanks for the link. I have a different view of 1971, 1983, 1989, 1919, and the 30 years war. To make it short, all those “Historical Events” were “Man-Made” or in more direct words “Engineered” by an “Elite Class” that wanted to “Inherit” the Governance of the country and prevent it from falling to another class of “Lesser” status than them. This “Cancer” has spread right up to the last Presidential and Parliamentary elections as witnessed by the “Easter Sunday Attack”.

I am glad and thankful in some respects to “Aragalaya” for bringing a halt to this in 2021. Yet I am concerned that “Engineering” work hasn’t yet been halted. Hopefully, it will end soon. This is the last chance. Let us DO IT.

    Mr HS

The US & European recession in the 2008 was brought about by greedy bankers but in SL, it was the politicians, mainly, the Rajapakses, who brought the country to its knees. ‘Irrational behaviour’ does not come into the equation. Maybe its human psychology to pursue power & wealth but in plane & simple language, it is always boundless greed & utter selfishness, but I am sure, not everybody falls into this category. However, in the case of SL, we also have to add stupidity & racism in a wider scale because corrupt & useless yobs were voted in to power knowingly.

It is of tremendous significance to note that the White Elephants namely: Hambantota Port, Colombo Port City, Lotus Tower etc., all are high risk ventures which contributed to the economic disaster but nevertheless, helped the Chinese with immediate economic gains to pluck. Not to forget those who earned luscious commissions while the masses have to suffer without food, medicine and high water and electricity bills without counting the collateral high costs of other essentials. This is the 21st Century style of colonization for Chinese hegemony putting Srilanka at Chinese mercy. If the Seth Samuddra becomes a reality Srilankans can add many more ruins to enhance their Past Glory.

His Holiness Dalai Lama is respected and revered by significant number of world dignitaries for his very own sophisticated Scholarship of the Buddhist Philosophy in contrast to their derision of the heathen Communist Chinese regime. As things are and unless there is a dramatic change in the mindset and determination of the people, Ranil W would go down in the history books as the President “Unceremoniously” ousted from that seat of power. I look forward to that day.

The moral of this essay is simply this. Hold Provincial Council Elections. This is also the message conveyed by the Indian Govt.and they want this done in double quick time.
The essayist then argues quite rightly the Opposition will win hands down, but the President remains President, but the Rajapakses would panic since the President could and may dissolve Parliament. The story so far is logical.

Now comes the crunch. A future all-party corruption-free united super democracy under the guidance of the Mahanayake-Theros………………..
Mr.Senanayake your proposition would work only in Utopia.

They argue this was the main reason behind the economic bubble which crashed in 2008, creating the Great Recession in 2008-2009
    ————
Recessions are created on purpose by the freemasons and tares (aka descendants of cain or the fake jwish people).
The common people suffer and they pocket the profits.
It is all a part of their NWO plot (which will not succeed).

      Humble,
“The common people suffer and they pocket the profits.”
I wouldn’t mind suffering if I can have some profits.

From the perspective of the people of the North-East, PC elections have always been important, though they want more powers. But how come many in the South who derided the PCs as white elephants and said that they would be just happy to let them die, have suddenly found it important to hold these elections? Unprincipled politics is not an exclusive province of the ruling junta.

I do not dispute the sentimental value.
But think of what five years of TNA control achieved in the North?
Should not the Tamils be a little more informed about the stuff that they have for leaders??

PC elections are still not on the table.
I fear that the author of the article is a little mixed up when talking of postponement of elections.

I believe that no matter what anyone says or does, 75 years after our liberation from the colonial masters, our forefathers have achieved a lot for the nation. We must be grateful for those achievements.
Just to save medamulana criminals, JVPrs make every effort to put everyone together. that is the worst part of JVPrs…. dont you guys think so ?

I think it’s a ploy set up by AKD led JVP guys, knowing that people will suffer a lot under their future government, but at the same time, they always put the blame entirely on the previous governments.. we should put the blame on Rajapaksas more but not all governments.. It’s very Unfair. to attack everyone equally… why dont lanken media differentiate this ? what is behind that ?

.. I think our people are unrealistic about the “immature” ideologies of the Janata Vimukti Peramuna, which prefers to enjoy its people more than any major action for the benefit of the rural majority of the country. The truth is that our people are being abused over and over again. It is inevitable.

Free education is a blessing for us Sri Lankans, it is though a dream of Pakistan and Afghanistan or similar countries yet today. It did not come alone but through continuous battles fought by our ancestors. The same is true of free health, which the public still benefits from today.

    .
Free health, and as the WHO once sounded, health systems operating in sl are much better than in Russia. All this, however difficult, did not come alone. It was foreign affairs that “earned a good relationship with the CBK government” until Medamulana dogs were corrupted.

Rajapakshe mlechcha politics did lot more harm to the very nation than any little good. It was not their magics eleminated the terror out of country. Valiant 3 forces and the collectivity succeeded it, but shameless and foroceful men bastarded by DA Rajapkshe painted the picture in favour of their mlechcha future politics. Today almost everything is coming out of the pandora boxes.
    .
If not for CBK, the world community would not have donated to our country’s coastal areas after the tsunami disaster. The Rajapaksa dogs were entrusted with the rebuilding after the Tsunami, but they also squandered a lot of money from those donations.

Just because RW studied at Royal College and could present himself in good English + supporting the West, he isn’t the correct person to lead the country out of the current TROUBLES.
He is just talking about solving the ETHNIC question of nearly 75 years duration in order to grab the Tamils votes to win the next Presidential election. Indians too aren’t really going to solve the Ethnic problem.
We need a NEW CONSTITUTION right now. All others can WAIT.
