Ranil Wickremesinghe Not Against An International War Crimes Probe

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who was in Cochin, India on Friday said that his government was not against an international participation in carrying out investigations into alleged war crimes, during the last stages of the conflict between the military and the LTTE.

Ranil @ KuliyapitiyaWickremesinghe had made these comments while offering prayers at the Sree Krishna Temple in Guruvayur, the Times of India reported.

The Sri Lankan premier emphasized that his government wanted to ensure that everyone be held responsible whether they were military personnel or the LTTE. Reports estimate some 40,000 civilians were killed during the final stages of the war which ended in 2009.

“We may not have the full expertise to identify the exact factors that led to those casualties. So international participation is welcome for determining such causes,” he said, but quickly added that the ‘right to make the final judgment’ that was responsible for the deaths and on the nature of punishment should rest with the judicial system of Sri Lanka.

Wickremesinghe was accompanied by his wife Maitree Wickremesinghe. They also offered prayers at the neighbouring Mammiyur temple as well.

I want to know the truth.

I am ok for any international involvement as long as the inquiry is fair and objective,

The question is what happened to the people who have surrendered to your cardboard Sinhala army ….?
    Where are they now ?
You can not escape with bluff …..
There is a question about 300,000 Tamils who were in Mullaitivu during May 2009 …
    Tamils want answers
There is a younger generation is growing in North-East asking questions about where are their fathers..mothers.sisters..brothers ..wives …Tsunami is in the pipeline..

Card board Sinhala forces have no muscle..brain..courage to win LTTE….never ever possible
It is because of the chemical weapons supplied by poverty India and with the help of 34 countries you have silenced them …only modayas will dance about this borrowed..fake..artificial victory for free liquor

Tamil have no confidence in local inquiry ..which is like making a thief as a judge to give verdict about robbery

    Cheers

Cholan – it is because of guys like you (on both sides) that will ensure that this conflict will go on indefinitely.

Why not look at the possibilities instead of regressing into the racial bullshit?

Give those of your “younger generation” a chance to grow up without your hangups and maybe there is a chance that all races could live in this country without dwelling on the past.

And for this we need this ‘war crimes probe’ to get going without hindrance from the bigots who want the conflict to go on forever.

Whilst he may not express himself with sobriety, Cholan’s sentiments are right.

        The Sri Lankan army got massive international support to carry out what looks like a huge massacre of Tamils;

The next generation of Tamils are doing fine – because (i) so many have left and now have a GDP great than Sri Lanka (ii) those that are there will never accept military occupation and will always have the support of (i).

The conflict will end, when the oppression ends and justice is found. Remember the Jews are still hunting Nazis today.

Have you ever lost any of your kith and kin during 2009 June?

These kids growing up with lots of questions because they have lost fathers..mothers..sisters..brothers …

This conflict will go for another 100 years ..and your favorite Sinhalese have to take responsibility for this ok?

        Cheers

        Paul

“the LTTE which ‘defeated the world’s fourth largest army’ “

Actually LTTE did not ‘defeat’ the Indian Army, it was India who did not want to win the war and if they did so they would have to leave Sri Lanka and they chose to lose.

It was this which Prabaharan misinterpreted and rejoiced the fantasy he won the world’s fourth largest army and decided taking on the Sri Lankan military was effortless exercise. He realized too late that India just gave the war away just to remain in Sri Lanka!

Correction this happened only with the chemical weapons supplied by poverty India ..other wise your Sinhala card board army will fight for another 50 years…..

Remember how many times Muderpakse went to Delhi and worshiped the feet of imported Italian ex-bat girl?

where were you when poverty Indian army occupied this cursed land ..hiding under bed hugging your nona?

Instead of cracking the whip, Bodhi sira cracked the shits at the SLFP Central Committee Meeting. which was called to consolidate his power and authority.

Even Blind Freddy can see that none of those Batalanda’s Bacon Bone chewing Yahapalana SLFP Ministers and Deputies cango back to their electorates.

Whiskey Madam and her loyal Servants were lucky not to get booed off at the deliberations.

How Long can Batalanda Ranil hold his bullshit stance about White Judges and Hybrid Courts?.

Suren SSurendran, the Reverend and Solheim all have copies of Bataalnad’s MOU with the Diaspora which was drafted by UNO London.

But Batta can not bring it out in the open, because Bodhipala Sirisena wouldn’t allow him.

So Battaa has to go overseas to speak up his mind..

Isn’t that the basics in politics?

I personally don’t think there is anything wrong in having international participation wishing otherwise is expecting a farce of an investigation to whitewash crimes that happened. The disadvantage of that is everyone including honorable men in uniform who put their life on line for service will carry a tarnished label just because of the actions of a few.

The man successfully who blocked ICC, the man who went to New York to have the UNSG’s Expert Panel report to be scraped, the man who had big fight with Manga for having co-sponsor the 2015’s UNHRC resolution, the man who has visited his enemy country many times with the hope having to get the help of India to scrap off the resolution, the man who successfully split the TNA & the NPC on these issues and , like Don Stephen bought Soulbury with a cup of coffee, the man who have fooled Prince Zeid and made him to accept the internal inquiry has humbly declared that he is ready to accept the International Inquiry. What does he mean by that?

CT, you don’t have to publish this comment, but maybe have someone proofread before uploading this stuff. Having international participation in the process doesn’t make it an international tribunal.

Ranil, here is some advice for you. If you want this gov to continue you need to forget these war crime investigations. If you continue down this path, your gov will be short lived, MR will be back in power. Which actually would be a good thing for SL

Not for srilanka but for the guys of your sort. That respect only thuggery and looting. No social values will be given any place by rotten Rajaakshes. That is for sure.
Even today, he has been waging a war against rulers, instead helping the new govt to go forward. Simply malicious and devious agendas of Mahinda Jarapakshe

Poor Vedda. Did I touch a raw nerve of yours? Yeah, go ahead take what ever you wish, no skin off my nose. Are you by chance one of the ex-JVPs responsible for massacring own kind, now hiding inside the skirt of a Vedda? Or if not one of the torturers at Batalanda?

The aspect that interests me is that Ranil Wickremasinghe DOES NOT do things to appease the gallery.

This must be cheered. He is willing to do the right thing. This is heartening.

He is slowly but wisely making himself more assertive.

Compare him with our last Prime Minister and you will note the difference.

Just one thing which worries me: If the story is true, why did he INTERFERE and allow Weerawansa to wriggle out of a passport scam unscathed?

That worries, but other than that, he’s right on the button.

The international probe set up in Sri Lanka must find out the part played by the diaspora and the threat of intervention in our affairs by other countries. Michael Roberts international expert should oversee the court. Dyan Jayathilekes assssistance and MRs assistance is needed.

So you suggest that the Sri Lankan state should drop all investigations, and bury injustice and truth under their bum.

    Shrikharan,

You are right, what a joke – LTTE defeated Indian army, fighting a big army with few sticks, Indian army could have done the same thing srilankan army did and finished everyone in no time, instead they choose to use srilankan army to do that dirty work. Nature will punish Indians and srilankans for that crime/karma, still Jews hunting world war 2 killers. LTTE should have listen to either India or US – huge mistake not listening to anyone. It is our bad luck British left srilanka at a pathetic situation like red- cross left poor Tamils to die in the hands of –.Can escape international investigation but not from Karma – Poor people rely on God to provide justice.

We should not trust the West blindly. The West was facilitating the brutal civil war indirectly for decades. We shouldn’t give too much room to play their game in the name of democracy and human rights. Especially, Tamils are lining up to get funds from the West in the name of development projects, even though the West fooled Tamils in the name of Eelam. Recently, I was asked to write a project proposal to the Western country by a well known organisation in Jaffna. I have spoken to the so called “Tamil leaders” and saw their resumes. Their resumes just little better than Emil Kanthan’s. Nevertheless, limited to political knowledge and international affairs. The West can spin them with little fingers. Giving grants through the Western Embassies and NGOs all are expanding the Western soft power. But Tamil leaders don’t have the knowledge to understand the Western games.

This is a joke of a Government.Left hand does not know what the right hand does.
Maitree is saying that there will never be any foreign participation in war crime investigation and this Batalanda Ranil says their may be foreign participation in the investigation. If am not mistaken when asked in the parliament about a speech given to British Channel 4 station by this Batalanda
Ranil about foreign participation he vigourely denied in the parliament giving
that speech.I watched that speech and he said that it is not ruled out.He says
something in the parliament and says something totally different outside. This
Batalanda Ranil could be charged with contempt of parliament for lying

    Antany Peter,

Whom you suggest Tamils can listen or trust, Not Singhalese, not Indians, not Chinese , so the one and only trustworthy is West mainly you can trust British, I do not know much about others. You know Gandhi’s sathyagiraga won because it was against British definitely will never win with any Asian country leaders. The huge mistake LTTE did not to go along with US – they were created against US – even the start was wrong – now many Tamils learnt costly lesson except few greedy animals.

    Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe…
We the Sri Lankans have witnessed a reckoning of a CBK era again. You have proved your self to be a useless but yet a dictator. We are lining in masses waiting with anxiety the day we will phisically throw you and your little international puppet buddy Sirisena out of the respective offices.
That my friend is numbered to days than years. People are disgusted the way you manhandle the media. People are disgusted how you have bent your arse before the international powers. People are disgusted with your policies and bad economy.

This is the first sign of disgust towards you … more to come ..
