Controversial politician Ravi Karunanayake returned to the Cabinet not as the Minister of Finance, but as the Minister of Power and Energy and Enterprise Development.

Informed government sources, however, said as the Enterprise Development Minister Karunanayake will still have control over some institutions in the financial sector.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and Palitha Range Bandara have been axed by the President from the list of Cabinet ministers. UNP sources confirmed that Fonseka and Range Bandara were nominated for Cabinet posts by Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.
Wasantha Senanayake, who switched allegiance multiple times since the outbreak of the political crisis on October 26, was not given a Cabinet post despite widespread speculations.
Another highlight was the appointment of Malik Samarawickrama and Thilak Marapana as Cabinet ministers, despite their claims at the UNF parliamentary group meeting that they will not take up Cabinet posts.
Commenting on the Cabinet appointments of TPA Leader Mano Ganesan and ACMC Leader Rishad Bathiudeen who also volunteered to stay out of the new Cabinet, Minister Vajira Abeywardena said the United National Front, as a political alliance, arrived at a decision to give them ministerial positions.
“We thought their appointments were necessary to ensure that the minority communities are duly represented in the Cabinet,” Abeywardena said, addressing a press conference at Temple Trees, a short while ago.

British promised to keep the foremost place for Buddhism and respect Sinhala laws and traditions. I totally object to Rishard Bathudeen being given a new portfolio as “Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons.” He was accused for razing down Wilpattu virgin forest and settling down Muslims who were not displaced persons.
There cannot be “Protracted Displaced” Tamils or Muslims anymore. What did President, PM and Yahapalanaya-now-defunct-government do for 4 years? President said majority of them are resettled.
“Protracted Displaced Persons” are actually Sinhalese who were evicted from North and East since Portuguese era and then Dutch era and finally LTTE era. Many Buddhist temples in North and East were also demolished and their lands were taken forcibly.
Government should reveal full details and statistics of Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese who were resettled in North and East since 2009.
There is not a single Sinhalese MP to raise this question in Parliament now. Therefore, I make this request. Show us true statistics before the next election. We have a right to know.

I have a reasonable doubt that U N P have a deal with SIRA to return to power !
In a real world , a faceless man that is SIRA can not dictate at any moment to
the U N P of its cabinet and opposition leadership appointments as he has

Inreality, if Ranil is honest in doing any of the matters he promised to UNHRC in March 2015 in order to have the OISL report to be abolished and redrawn the way he wanted, there should have been a ministry to deal with “Human Rights, War Crime, Transitional Justice, Hybrid Special Court & Devolution of power”. Even Deepika’s Department of HRCSL can come under it, instead of being “independent under a lunatic EP”. Then TNA’s nominated MP has to have that Ministry.
It is still not too late. Cabinet is complete. March, 2019 is three months away. Ranil can well do it, instead of waiting to another year and put another show before election, twist, turn around, and blackmail IC with Sinhala Nationalism threats.
On the other side, IC should now be frank as Sinhala governments have not been sincere in curbing the Sinhala Buddhist Nationalism, but pampering more to win the competitive elections, they should help Tamils to go alone.

We have to admit that the successive Governments after independence have not done enough to improve the living conditions of Demalu in plantations who make a tremendous contribution to the economy compared to Demalu in the North. They sold part of Ceylon to China hoping to buy veto for their war crime, if UNHRC refers the War Crime to UNSC. As an additional insurance, they surrendered to Russia on trade deals like, fertilizer, asbestos, tea, warship et al hoping to buy Russian veto, if Chinese one failed due to any last minute bitterness. They plunged the entire country into lawlessness to grant unlimited impunity to the War Criminal Presidents, ministers, and defense officials, to avoid any kind of investigation and thus bringing out any hidden unwanted secret to surface from this war without witness. The current cabinet formation is only to keep the Lankan politics continuously on boiling point for another one year to escape from UN & UNHRC by keeping International attention away from Tamils’ plight but only on the artificially staged drama of derailing Lankan democracy.

WW later apologized to MS soon after MS won, but MS dismissed it as nothing serious to be concerned since it was said in the heat of the moment. They remain good buddies since, to this day. At that time, MS was too elated and on a high, like he was on a roller coaster ride, fresh after winning a Presidential election, and everything else was just too insignificant to be concerned about. Not so now, where his slip is showing. After 3 years as President, he has gone nuts.. Gone is his humility, and his arrogance has come to the fore, self confidence has taken a new low, living with fear of death, a sudden and imminent attack on him and then burn the place down (going by his own speech) is giving him no sleep. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. The feeling is palpable and he couldn’t help exposing it, as it was too raw for him to fake. His present mindset dictates he is being held captive in a hostile environment where his best buddies and close associates are all powerless to help him. From now on end, it will be an uphill struggle for him to keep the show going. At some point he may decide he has had enough, and through frustration and self-pitty, decide to resign to his fate. Until then it is going to be a rough ride for the country, and all us as its citizens.
