Human rights activist and lawyer Nimalka Fernando told Colombo Telegraph that she does not ask for protection from anyone in the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime, not ever her partner of 30 years, Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Vasudeva Nanayakkara, stating that Jesus Christ is her strength and the teachings of [Vladimir Illych] Lenin has been her vision.

“You do not ask for protection from Ministers or a Minister of Mahinda Rajapakse regime. I have come into politics as an individual coming from the working class during my youth,” Dr.Nimalka Fernando said.
Earlier, her partner Nanayakkara declined to comment on the Fernando’s frequent claim that her life is under threat.
“I have remained in politics out of conviction and not because I have patronage from any individual especially from a man or from any political party for that matter. Life has been difficult due to this kind of duplicity. But as a feminist I remain undeterred in my course seeking justice and accountability for thousands who have died due to the war, fighting raging corruption in this regime, maimed and disabled due to war both in the north and south, yearning for democratic ideals we cherish. The cross of Jesus Christ has been my strength. The teachings of Lenin have been my vision.” Dr. Nimalka said.

If the answer is NO then the child is ILLEGITIMATE. So your Nimalka can in future fight for the rights of illegitimate children of SRI LANKA. this is by far the best, most critically thought-provoking, food-for-thought-comment on this thread. It does looks like there’s something a bit bumpy in her advocacy of what she advocates and sharing one’s life with duplicity for 30-years…it may certainly be the case that she categorically refuses her partner’s luxury official vehicles and stf protection etc. but the way this plays out in practice is a bit strange.
With the likes of Mr V. Nanayakkara and Prof. Tissa Vitarana, to give but two examples, it is very difficult to identify where they stand, and what cause, if any, they are trying to uphold. Their ‘conscience’ as such seems to be an extremely, unusually, mind-bogglingly, peculiar one. In comparison, I would personally stand by the likes of (irrespective of diametrical differences in ideologies and political outlooks) Dr Vickramabahu Karunaratne, Ranil Wickremesinghe, and TNA bosses (meaning, near-exclusively, Messrs Sampanthan and Senathirajah).

I am an avid follower of CT and commend it’s columnists. Going by the responses it also gives one a clear idea as to why this country will remain a third world economy devided by race, religion and ethnicity which are the pet topics of politicians to remain in power. An Australian news paper cited in CT asks this pertinent question and goes on to state that the asylum seekers are not Tamil nationals but sinhalese. Does this mean that the majority feel unsafe in a country ruled by a regime that is nationalistic .? Dr. NIMALKA FERNANDO has championed freedom of speech regardless of religion and race but she belongs to a religious faith which is a fundamental right. Nimalka is a remarkable woman with a lot of courage. There are only a very few in Sri lanka today who are brave enough to openly criticise the Rajapaksa regime and the mad dog Hudson is trying to silence her by openly threatening her life. If I were Vasu I would load my shotgun and go and blast the madman Hudson to pieces but alas Vasu has no spine to confront the madman.

We’ll, consider this picture: Vasu, being in Rajapaksa’s government, provides some degree of protection for Nimalka. Despite the threats emanating from the regime’s henchmen I don’t think anybody will dare harm Nimalka. This perceived protection affords Nimalka the luxury of being able to continue criticising Rajapaksa.
The same scenario applies in the case of Mano and Prabha Ganeshan where Mano is protected by his brother’s association with Rajapaksa.

The other day you said you were called a “PROSTITUTE” by the SLBC.
I understand that you are a lawyer. If you were such brilliant legal person and a defender of human rights, why you did not file a case in courts claiming a huge sum as compensation from this Government Agency. Don’t you think you have every right to defend your character and integrity and show the world that no person however much highly placed he or she is, not allowed to to go about with such character assassinations in public.? That would have definitely set an example to others too.
So without doing the right thing and what is expected of a person of your stature, don’t cry, because no one listens to you and sympathize with you. You silence in that regard also goes to prove that you have a hidden agenda.

WHere do you want her to have filed a case in the court ? Is that in SL or somewhere else ?
As you are well aware, even with PRIMA FACIE EVIDENCE in favour of victims, nothing seem to have worked on the accused. That became clearer in Baratha murder, Kelaniya MP murder, Deraniyagala multi murder,and the related cases.
Why you guys seem to be acting LIKE foreigners ?
