Sexist Remarks: Minister Should Not Have Referred To My Looks And Womanhood – Rosy

By Colombo Telegraph

“I consider it as an insult. The minister should not have referred to my looks and womanhood in that manner,” says UNP MP Rosy Senanayake. Rosy Senanayake made these remarks against Transport Minister Kumara Welgama today.

Rosy Senanayake

Transport Minister Kumara Welgama told Parliament today he had no words to express his feelings towards UNP MP Rosy Senanayake whom he described as ‘a charming and beautiful lady’. The Minister made these remarks when a question was directed at him by Rosay Senanayake during question time.

“I am so happy to answer a question by a beauty queen like Rosy Senanayake.   You are such a charming woman. I have no words to describe my feelings,” the minister said. He said, “I cannot explain my feelings here. But if you meet me outside Parliament, I will describe them.”

Rosy Senanayake said there was no need for the minister to make these remarks merely because of her as a woman. “I never insult women. It is a fact known to everybody,” the minister said.

How can the bunch of sexist, morons, like this bugger, who sits in the Diyawanna oya, who has no doubt signed a petition to the impeach first woman Chief Justice of lanka run even a Kangaroo Court?!
It is the likes of this moron, Kumara Welgama, another of the uneducated thieves who fancy themselves the “legislature” with all sorts of nonsensical “parliamentary privileges” who think that they are above the law and women are fair game for their cock and bull who have signed the petition to impeach the first woman CJ of Sri Lanka!
This Banana Republic legislature is a disgrace second only to the the abominable uneducated Executive Rajapassa whose greedy and rapacious family is looting the public wealth and bringing disrepute to the country while the brats have Lambughini sports car races..

This bugger Kumar Welgama, I heard him boast the other day, that there can not be anyone else who has drunk Toddy, as himself. What a qualification to boast? These are the type who are Ministers in the MR Govt. Now not only he is a drunkard, but also a lecher.

I cant remember him in the past – what kind of a politician is he ? can you please explain… I just read some info about the guy – being very rude on the radio once. So being rude is common to many of the MR cabinet. So we should only be surprised if one or two are not rude.

The poor women of our country, bear the brunt of alcoholic husbands, work as maids all over the world, keeps the home fires and remembrance fires burning as the men kill each other over race and religion, get rubbed up on the bus, abused in parliament. Oh ungrateful nation!

It is true that we must learn to give and get respect, not only from womenfolk, but amongst all legislators in the august assembly. Simply put, our country has gone to the dogs judging by the quality of those politicians governing the welfare of the country and its inhabitants. So what better can you expect from these scoundrels? People are to blame for electing them to the high post. But politics “Sri Lanka style” is downright dirty, and never a clean game, and therefore anyone involvred in it, is fair game for this type of vulgarism. It would be better for the fairer sex, if they want to maintain their civility and dignity, to keep away from using these descipable loos.

Mahadanamutta and everyone in his cabinet are almost like coconut pluckers. Comparison is not to disgrace coconut pluckers but to low level qualified ones the clear majority among the politicians today. These are guys not suitable even to work as hang man if the state allowed executions.

Leave alone hangman, even as Mortician as the dead females are not safe. No wonder Sir John said seeing Sevala Banda’s Govt. that the tree climbers have come into Parliament.

And people who are so much like the MPs in Banda’s government came to parliament under JR’s leadership. I see noting wrong in either. It is just that some MPs (now, many MPs) lost their heads after coming to parliament. But that has happened to many MPs who have come from the middle and upper classes too.

This is again from a minister of MR cabinet.

Utterly disgusting comments – if guys would not know how to behave – they have to drop this kind of disgusting comments.

As it should be the case for Pissuballo – these kind of uncivilized ministers should be ordered to wear muzzles if they fail to behave decently. These are the examples before the young ones today- So how can the society be civilized ?

Deyyo balanda ona lankwata samajayata :(

I am not an UNP or Rosi supporter – under the current regime respect towards the elderly people and women are clearly falling.

The same is being done against CJ these days – apart from the case filed against her.

These kind of buggers feel big machos and think every woman is there to become silent when they open their filthy mouths.

Sexism in our Parliament should be tackled at once.

Kumara Welgama should be given a proper lecture by MP Rosy Senanayake.

Please check out Australia’s PM Julia Gillard’s Speech Over Opposition’s Sexism & Misogyny. She put sexist Aussie opposition leader Abbot in his rightful place.

Idiotic Welgama should be made to apologize or thrown out of Parlaiament by Sri Lanka’s women.

People like Welgama should never be Sri Lanka’s Parliament ever gain.

Come on be sensible she would have been giving a speech to a dead wall and the worst scenario would have been Gota’s vans would have followed her home.
The Australian was able to achieve it because she was the super power as PM and in any other position she would have done the same as Rosy. Don’t forget it’s the ones that stole the sheep that were sent down under.

MPs who talk sense in the Parliament can be just counted with fingers only. They have nothing to say on the subjects for which they are responsible because other ‘powerful’ individuals run their Ministrys’ affairs. So when they think of saying something to mark their presence in the Parliament they talk some nonsense.

Young ones dont have any respect towards women PERHAPS in the age groups of their own mothers and grand mas. My sister who is in her late fifties now said to me once – today teaching in schools are not like years ago. They throw words as if they flirt with them. Female teachers are often being attacked by young school going boys. I wish that the FIRST LADY any female leaders like Rosi could better take a lead against all increasing crime against the women in the country. often what are being telecasted on the tv and videos are the great work of the first lady- why cant see lead it.

“He should be expelled from parliament immediately”

By singling out Kumara Welgama’s sexist remarks towards Rosy Senanayake you are seeing a tree for a forest.Male chauvinism is prevelant in the SL society at large when they regard women as sexy toys to be meddled with and discarded. This idea is fed to the young mostly by SL teledrama industry. The types of Duminda Silva pardoned by the President when he was charged with sexual abuse of a teenager, the proliferation of rape of young girls by politicians and then bring pressure on the Judiciary to release them, are countless incidents where girls and women face today.Welgama said it in Parliament to another female parliamentarian. This is a cross section of society impunity with which Parliamentarians behave. This is what happens when uneducated, uncultured rascals go to Parliament and President’s House and govern this island.

    • 0
      0

Exactly. So president^s silence or not taking against the blunder that may have made former or current MP, current murderer of Baratha, sex abusive person is a great mistake done by him.

People of the country should closely study these issues – not stay like scared still or indifferent – everything can happen to the gerneral public under the current leadership.

So ones like me – being away from the country, who permanently raise the question why the nation stay as if they are hallozzinated – is becoming clear to me now – Thanks Sunila.

I am very unhappy seeing the manner /the degree of deterioration levels of our society – thanks go to the PRESIDENT and henchmen – have achieved under his guidance.

Kovian please don’t drag ethnic issue in to this. This has nothing to do with ethnicity. This is on what a pervert Kumara Welgama is. This regime thinks that women could be abused any way they like. What they are doing to Justice Shirani Bandaranayake is another good example their sexism. (The former CJ who also bought an apartment at Trillium while the Ceylinco case was being heard by him, was not impeached. (Is it because he was a male?)

We are told that a huge amount of tax-payers money is spent for every minute of the sessions of our so called ‘Supreme Parliament.” Why didn’t that guy at the chair stop this sexist and ordered him to answer the question posed. It shows that the fool at the chair at that time too was a sexist who enjoyed comments of ‘Kumara the Sexist’. What has the Minister of Women’s Affairs has to say. (Being a male he too would have enjoyed his cabinet colleagues sexist comments)

What many readers and commentators seem to be oblivious to, is not that most people with power tend to exercise it with impunity, and not being civil to women or men, but that the whole political culture in Sri Lanka has degenerated into a low level entity that is beneath contempt.

I say so of this sub-culture in general, not with specific reference to any party or personality’s leadership etc. This degeneration will have the potential to lead to anarchy and breakdown of organised society, from which recovery will probably (if ever) take many generations.

Anura said things of sexual nature, even to Chandrika to please voters in
election times and Gamini Disanayake said even worst things to Sirimavo B
and Premadasa broke all records in prliament against Sirimavo. The only
difference between Gamini and the rest was,Gamini did it in superbly well
balanced good humor. But the case with Anura was always unpleasant among
women in the country. So bringing Anura’s name to kind of justify this
man’s behavior, doesn’t go hand in hand.

For a sex pest there is no dividing line, for a peeping Tom watching is sufficiently titillating, for a rapist sex is not the motivating factor, .

The question should be did he appreciate beauty or objectify women?

    We will never know.

Man’s screwed up head works completely opposite to what he says.

We will never know what he meant to say.

Don’t be naive nor fool yourself as to the real intention of this rotten (Walgams’s) remarks to Mrs. Rosy Senanayake (A World Champion material for Sri Lanka – Mrs. World – 1985, which decorum and dignity she has maintained right throughout her career in politics even upto this day), Hats off to her and for all women folk of Sri Lanka that she represents. She being a member of a weak opposition, Walgama’s intent was to humiliate or debase her authority to question him, with contempt, using sexist remarks having double meaning. What he said appears perfect and innocently normal on the surface, but gives a sinister and menacing message that any decent woman would consider to be an attack on her gender or womanhood. This was meant to be ‘all male’ joke which ultimately turned rotten, and even the Speaker didn’t have the decency nor the guts to reprimand him. If this is the way our legislators behave, what can you expect from ordinary folks, where sexual intimidations are rampant, and mostly go unreported for fear of reprisals having devastating effects on their lives and families.

The derogatory statement is scornful and condemned. But if you do not really challenge sexual abuse cases of the poor and down trodden including the ones continuing in the Vanni to be exposed and end the impunity, the cry against Rosy’s abuse is only farce. Many cases awaited to be charged by the police. Even the tourist rape-murder has been put on the back burner.
I wish all you people who defend Rosy, extend the support to those Rosy supports, there will be some justice.

If I were the minister of justice of the current regime, I would immediately ask their political parties to react -accordingly. Having lived on the west for the last two decades, I feel people can only be controlled if there are strict law enforcement to the manner – that some europeans have. In Germany for example, if a law maker reacted to the manner that this uncivilised filthy mouth has been – I have no doubt, their colleagues would force him to go against the particular man. In the current lanken cabinet – I dont think even any good guy would come forward to go against the Kumara-showing guts. Kehelmal and Rajitha could collect their bonus marks if they did so – Nor would opposition react accordingly. This is a country- that is now on the doorsteps-to a state similar to PAKISTAN.
