President Maithripala Sirisena speaking to a group of Muslims after the Digana and Ampara racial violence earlier this year squally blamed the Rajapaksa’s for the incidents. He says that the difference between the previous anti-Muslim violence before 2015 and what was seen in Ampara and Digana is that the previous regime orchestrated the violence while his government had nothing to do with it. “Look at those who have been arrested in Kandy. They are Pohottuwa members. The Rajapaksa’s are behind these violence” he is heard saying in an audio now circulating in social media.
The voice which is clearly of Sirisena further blames former UPFA MP and Rajapaksa crony Sarath Weerasekera, who recently called for the hanging of the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, for being behind the Ampara incident.”Sarath Weerasekera has now set up an extremist Sinhala NGO and he goes to Geneva every March and September. He was behind the violence against the Muslims in Ampara”the President claims.
Since this audio being recorded President Maithripala Sirisena has unconstitutionally sacked prime minister Ranil Wickeremesinghe and appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa, the very man he accuses of being behind all anti Muslim violence in recent years.
