Sirisena Makes Controversial Speech At Independence Day Ceremony: Bashes Ranil Over National Govt And Mahinda Over Terror

Making a controversial speech at the national Independence Day ceremony at Galle Face Green, President Maithripala Sirisena hit out at the UNP’s motion to form a national government in Parliament while also criticizing his chosen-Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“From what I saw in the media, there is a plan to form a national government with the support of a party that has only one seat in Parliament. It is important to think whether such an act is ethical,” Sirisena said, addressing the ceremony.

“The purpose of such a national government is to increase the number of Cabinet portfolios,” the President added hitting out at the ruling UNP, led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who was also in the audience.

“As there is only one party in the government, a Cabinet of 25 members would be sufficient to run the government,” Sirisena said. He also added that Sri Lanka was struggling with its strategy for IT education while the world was moving towards Digital Economy.

Sirisena also launched a subtle attack on former President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he said he ended “terror” (Bheeshanaya) in the country after January 2015. “However, we could not eliminate corruption as promised. We need to see how many of our politicians have a genuine need to eliminate bribery and corruption.”

Sirisena, in another attack on the former President, also said the country should be saved from nepotism and family-centric practices.

Rajapaksa was also in the audience when Sirisena made his Independence Day speech – the last one in his current term. It was, however, Rajapaksa’s first national Independence Day ceremony after he fell out of power in January 2015.

President of the Maldives Mohamed Ibrahim Solih was the Guest of Honour at Sri Lanka’s Independence Day ceremony this year.

Former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was the notable absentee at the event. Fonseka said he was only invited as a ruling party MP for the event, and not as the only Field Marshal in the country. Fonseka told the media that he would not attend the ceremony if the government did not give due respect to his military title.

Meanwhile, Colombo Telegraph also found out Sirisena has not published his full speech on his official website as at 2.30 PM (SL time) on Monday ( February 04). The President delivered the Independence Day speech around 9 AM in the morning.

I shed no tears for either RW or Maha Raja, but Sira does not know the difference between a unifying national event/celebration or a cheap political rally. Sri Lanka has been ruled by this kind of petty-minded politicians for 71 years. And here we are in a bottomless pit in 2019. Cheers!
PS: I feel sorry for soldiers who have to salute these clowns, who sit in air-con comfort.

        Ben Hurling

I am compelled to disagree with you.

It’s you petty minded; when unified to share the stage to celebrate the independence, why should we lose our democracy when the head of the state or anybody is eager to express disagreement over a very important matter?

It’s democracy we’re enjoying & any form of discomfort/embarrassment cast @ anybody whether intentionally or not has to be borne up.

It might be good for the interested international community to look from a different perspective of our matters.

        Don’t be a clown please.

His so called NATION#S speech reminded the SONG of late singer Michael Jackson.
      .
      Who is bad ?
      .
Same Nation or the politicians that have been known to the very same nation for such a long time ?
      .
Not just 4 Months passed since SILLYSENA AKA SHITSENA appointed Rajaakshes as the FAKE PM. As if SILLYSENA was born on 25 Oct 2018 ?
      .
Could ANYONE with a smigen of shame could go for it ?. But ShitSena was champion of doing such totally upside- down appointments. Today, the same SHIT SENA with the same or other end of his orifices has the audcity to talk about corruption.?. This man should be nominated to be the NOBLE PEACE PRICE in year 2019 ?
      .
May be, SIRISENA and his circles would have been on PUNNAKKU for 3 meals, but 6.2 mio of voters that made him the President are surely not punnaku eaters.

      Oh Sirisena ,

You are now abrogating Ranil W and Mahinda R, because they are corrupt. Very good. They fully deserve it.

Who is going to abrogate you? The Parliament or the People?

      Nalmen,

A new circle of Sirisena. To understand Sirisena, need to understand the circle of Sirisena.

      1. Says one thing
      2. Announces a different thing
      3. Does something completely different.

At least, in this speech, the new circle, he is telling the truth about Rail and Mshinda.

      A Land like no other!

He behaves as if the chameleon wears a gold chain around his neck, not being able to recognize yet today, that his position is not to abuse the way he is upto. Be it within the country or during recent foreign visits, he proved his incapablities. Whatelse we can expect, if the surgeon chosen for saving the lives of grave paitients, later revealed to be not up to the levels of an first year medical student by his knowledge.
This happenes when most unsuitable rules the roost. Whereever, he turns up, he drops down his kind of ludicracies -, not thinking twice.
PM Wickramasinghe keeps silent further since he holds his cards close to his chest. He has to do so. He knows, even President is no right to abuse his powers and mislead the very same nation on and on. Sillysena s performances are beyond all acceptable levels. He makes himself a laughter stock to the world. Nothing left to save this man – not single word comes out his cesspit can be taken as ” honest”:

Ms Ekanaligoda fearlessly pointed out by handing over a letter if President SILLYSENA would release BALUSARA, he should do it going by the paragraphs accordingly. Meaning, BBS lead baluthadiya is imprisoned because the court found him to be guilty to have threaten Ms Ekanaligoda that way. And that of one fo the dozens of cases file against the baluthadiya. Now even that Asath Salley and several others have come forward to get the bugger freed from the prison. But real buddhsts that are in passive mode, respecting true teachings of buddha would never respect if BBS lead was released, not just thatthey want to take a revenge, but to protect the masses. Balusara is not yet suitable to return to human association.
Those who make every effort to undermine the danger of the most aggressive monk, are just hired men of each organisations.
Asath Salley is now fallen to all the depth. Muslim community should raise the question, if the kind of personalities have ever been genuine towards the muslim community. Who on earth, would fight for a racist and getting him freed, going by the atrocities deliberately made by BBS lead and like minded extremist groups.

    Dear Sirisena,
It is a pathetic speech. You can speak about corruption but we all know your were part of the corruption before 2015 and after 2015. You brokered 500 Million deals per an MP to appoint a corrupted terror Man as PM in order to contest for next presidential election. We don’t want you or two others who talked about. We need a person who will unite the nation and bring the nation for the people.

A picture speaks a thousand words! These thieves – ranil, Mahinda and clown Siri must share a prison cell. Time for a new generation to take over and lead. Laws preventing those over 60 contesting elections and banning party cross overs must be passed before next general election

Sunil Handunetti who worked hard to expose the Bondscam from should contest and will win the next Presidential election as people are fed up of the Bondscam Ranil-Sira-Jarapassa circus.

Hope Sirisena can lead by example. His actions on 26 Oct was shocking !!

All three of them – Sirisena, Ranil or Mahinda have had their opportunity and none of them have been sincere and delivered on their promises. I as a young adult would prefer a change of leadership in all three political parties since any of the newcomers cannot do anything worse than these guys.

Ideally an age limit for all politicians please ( may be 70 or 75 years) together with some basic qualifications (AL) and with a clear restriction of employing their relatives and kith and kin in their Ministries and SOEs.

Am I asking for too much?

Mr Sirisena needs to STOP the in fighting among the politicians [Ranil/Mahinda/etc] & START talking about on how to get foreign investments ; on how to get religious and ethnic harmony; on how to bring an immediate end to the sufferings of the displaced in the North and East; on bringing back the refugees from South Indiaafter making the conditions of living better in NPC & Eastern province; on how to have the Presidential Election first followed by Parliamentary election[public aren’t interested in Provincial Council elections]. and please no more Oct 26 like episodes. Why not publish your entire speech on your website!

      Naman,
“START talking about on how to get foreign investments”
      ———————
President does not have to bother about that. Ranil plans to give 30,000 Acres in Tirikunamale to open an Investment Zone where only Americans, Japanese and Indians (anti-China mafia) can invest. If Elam is formed, it will become a colony of this mafia.

Three prime examples of failed figures together. (RW=Chitta (sita), MR=Kaaya (actions) & MS= Vaacha (verbal). Just look at their body language.
    Facial expressions.
RW=sardonic : A sardonic smile, expression, or comment shows a lack of respect for what someone else has said or done
MR=mischievous : A mischievous look or expression shows that you enjoy having fun by causing trouble
MS=sly : A sly smile, look, or remark shows that the person doing it knows something that other people do not know

Sirisena said. He also added that Sri Lanka was struggling with its strategy for IT Education Digital Economy ///
Electronic documents are enabling paperless reading can any of the present parliamentarian has the knowledge to compete on uplifting the digital economy or new youngster must be in parliament, as president is acknowledging the shortcoming. Encourage young to develop the cyber skills necessary for It. Look at the photo the facial expression looks fatiged and patched and the next step interpret hopelessness.

Sirisena, the hypocritical yob, has once again proved his stupid mentality which even contradicts his own doings.

I don’t know if it’s ethical or not for the UNP to form an alleged ‘national govt’ but what a guy to talk on ethics. At least Sirisena has realised that 25 Ministers are enough to run the country. As for an IT education strategy, if I am not mistaken, there is a Minister of Education, as well as, a Minister of Higher Education, among the 25 Ministers. Why not get them to pull up out their fingers in whatever orifice they in now & do something about it or kick them out & get some competent person outside politics to do the work? Probably Sirisena is unaware that the buck stops with him. As for eliminating corruption, wasn’t the same man responsible for ‘bheeshana’ whom Sirisena wanted to appoint as PM not so long ago, on the top of the list of corrupt politicians? Sirsena should know by now that none of the politicians ‘have a genuine need to eliminate bribery and corruption’, including himself but what takes the biscuit is his statement ”….the country should be saved from nepotism and family-centric practices”. Are we in SL all dumb or is it me?

The pictures worth thousand words: Even ones with little brains could get it.
    .
BP Rajakashe is still scot free, far from even being caught by investigations- whatever high profile crimes may have been committed. Media mafia would furhter support Rajakashes to paint him clean.
Sirisena is seen as if the spineless Mahadanamuththa not yet knowing what position and he holds. This happens when the mad soldier took the weapon.

PM Ranil Wickramasinghe looks very uncomfortable being among the other two unpredictable around him. This play goes at least few more months, no matter majority of lanken populace would struggle for their 3 meals. Lankens are under too much pressure – with the mountaneous levels of huge debts to be paid off in next months.

In srilanka we take all things as personal, when unp ministers went to Mahindas sons wedding unps other people got that as huge problem. People are not like that we like all political people, not have hate or noting, my self and 7 mrmbers of my family voted for Mahinda In 2005, 2010 and voted Maithree in 2015 presidential election and voted unp in 2015 general election. In 2018 local polls we did not vote but in 2020 presidential election we will vote for gotabaya. We are voting only for gotabaya because of their and slfp governments economic performance and the great business enviorment that only can create by the rajapaksas slfp governments . we need another ten years of super capitalist business government of slfp like during 2005- 2015. Unp is very innocent and good people but utterly fail in economic management and they are the people like Jr or prenadasa who never saw or handle an economy worth more than 15 billion USD in srilanka. So unp does not know how to handle a huge 80 billion usd business economy which was atchitected by slfp government of Mahinda who are the one and only toplevel business capitalist party ever formed in srilankan history.. Normaly unp governments considered as patholayos and slfp governments considered as Hitlers. , but that is very much wrong that we are saying them patholayos. Unp is party brought independence to stilanka, done good things for agriculture, brought democracy ,they brought 19th amendment, they brought act of information but the sad side is they are not atlest 1% capable of slfp economiv managers in doing business economic management.slfp governments are economic management masters. That is the only reason choosing gotabaya this time no any hard feelings with unp. Now under this unp government entire business and economy in a it most disaster stage.

      Businessman!
I know we have NO choice for a decent leader in this country but it still horrifies me that you are so ready to vote for a man of his ilk. I perfectly understand your desire for a good business environment but then why dont you get together with other businessmen and put up someone capable, not corrupt and whose hands dont have blood on them….

And dont repeat the worn-out mantras about GR “saving” this country. Churchill is believed by some (especially Britishers) to have played a major/the major role in winning WW2, but the Brits decided against his being PM again after it was over. He was NOT a man for peacetime.

And, to me, it seems to have been a fortuitous choice. Attlee’s Labour govt introduced the welfare state — a really welcome measure after 5 or 6 terrible years of war. Churchill certainly wouldnt have done that.

      Cont. to Businessman

Can you remember why you didnt vote for MR in 2015 if his govt provided such an excellent economic environment business opportunities? There must have been very good reasons not to hold out your arms to him then.

I am not, however, a UNP supporter and am tired of voting for the “best” of a bad choice.

I did not hate or love any politician in srilanka. I chose gotabaya only because of their economic management skills.slfp of Mahinda is a master brains in economic management who can only handle this 80 billion business economy which was architected by slfp them self during 2005- 2015. Slfp of mahinda took only a 20 billion economy in 2005 and converter this economy in to 80 billion economy in just 10 years brought up the percapital from 1000 USD to 3850 USD in just 10 years see their performance. Most probably sajith premadasa will be the anti slfp candidate ,sajith is a good gentle man but what can sajith do in economic management with unp ,he is also like a leader like Jr,premadasa or Ranil from unp who never saw or handle at least a 15 billion USD and same unp guy who does not have atleast 1% capability of slfp master brains in economic management. Other thing is the entire higher ranking business class and their media are with slfp of mahinda . do you thing the business class at least give a simple respect to sajith or any one from unp. With out a support of this business class shall we create a business enviorment.only solution is we need to create a slfp government of Mahinda. In 2015 we had a suspicious that unp can do this economy but we took the risk and gave them a chance as a Tamil business man. What happened they made a disaster. My friends all tamil business people we discussed we can’t take this economic risk any more.so defiebietly we have to vote for gotabaya.this decision is a firm decision .

    Clearly it’s not controversial speech

It is a response to a controversial action going to be done unethically.

Some time back there’s a big roar over buying MPs & now the same thing, making ministers when country/people don’t want them. It’s just paving the way to give bribes as ministers.

People don’t want that so called national government, if government want stability more for their projects dissolve the house & seek fresh mandate.

It must be said now that please stop this nonsense of national govt. unless people will take law & order into their hands.

A corrupt joker bashing other corrupts. Anyway…. forming a national govt with a party with one MP is a joke and ploy to increase the number of ministers. Every one should rise against such moves. Deserves the criticism.

Sad to see how corrupt the so called Mr. Clean and his gang of cronies are. These bastards come into politics not to serve the country but to loot country’s coffers.

Newspapers report that My3 was in Mulleriyawa two days ago visiting a factory. Some ill wind has blown his way it seems. Utterly indiscreet and totally ignorant of what to say where, he mentioned the chillly water throwing incident in his freedom day speech as if it is worthy of being mentioned in the presence of the foreign dignitories. He should have been punished for this by one of the girls who did the pestle dance and covered by one of the girls who did the winnow dance.

There is no point in us all crying today. We made the mistake of electing an uneducated, uncivilized, Constitution violating President. At least let us all remember the damages Sirisena has done to the country and teach him a lesson at the next presidential election, if he appears as a candidate. Its also important for us now to immediately demand a presidential election as we cannot have another election when we have a president who violated the constitution as the head of the country. Any other election other than presidential election will be seen as a dishonest and illegal election by the world.
