President Maithripala Sirisena has convened a meeting with all Parliamentarians of the SLFP and the SLPP as he ends the seventh day after the SLFP convention in Colombo, where the President promised to resolve the current political crisis in a week.

Addressing an SLFP convention at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium last week, President Sirisena promised to resolve the political crisis in seven days and asked the public to place trust in his words. However, no meaningful action has been taken by the President thus far, to resolve the current gridlock.
The meeting with SLFP and SLPP MPs comes amid reports that President Sirisena is planning to hold a referendum on a General Election if the Supreme Court gives a ruling against his gazette to dissolve Parliament.
Sources close to Sirisena said the meeting with SLFP and SLPP MPs was called to make a final decision on President Sirisena’s future course of action, after the Supreme Court ruling.
Informed political sources added that the Supreme Court’s ruling on the dissolution of Parliament would come on Wednesday or Thursday. The Supreme Court, on Friday, extended the interim order on the dissolution of Parliament until the ruling of the case.
Sirisena held a special meeting with Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya yesterday at his official residence. Although the details of this meeting were not revealed to third parties, it is assumed that the meeting centred around the President’s “future options”. Meanwhile, several UPFA Parliamentarians told the media that the President would make a request to the Chief Justice, through the Attorney General, to deliver the verdict of the case on the dissolution of Parliament, without delay.

If and when the Supreme Court rules that the dissolution of Parliament is unlawful,the matter ends there.Attempting to circumvent the spirit of the ruling by seeking other options like a referendum would only lead to further instability.There has been no Governance or Government in the country for close upon two months.The pre oct:26th Govenment is the lawful government and that is the inference of the ruling of the Supreme Court, when they rule on the interpretation of the 19th Amendment.

With Sirisena at the helm, SL has no respect from other countries with China waiting to put us further in the debt trap by coming to our rescue. There will be no export markets with concessions for our products, thereby, having to compete with other countries, such as, Bangladesh, Vietnam & Thailand who are already established now principal exporters of garments & processed food, no foreign investments & no tourists coming due to political instability, which leaves only the poor house maids & other expatriates to bring in the much needed $. confirms when ! No media utters a word about this delay . We are talking about
