Speaker To Deliver Political Clarity With Ruling On National Govt

Expectations are on the rise that the current political impasse will end shortly with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya announcing that he would made a determination in Parliament on Wednesday on the validity or otherwise of the ‘National Government’.

Jayasuriya

Jayasuriya made this annoucement when the Opposition questioned him about the legality of the cabinet size and its composition since the unity-agreement between the SLFP and UNP had lapsed.

Jayasuriya admitted that he has not been informed officially by the two main parties about the status quo of their agreement. It is therefore expected that his ruling will be based on the decision taken by the two parties on their ‘unity-arrangement’.

It was also reported that there would be a cabinet reshuffle the same day following a discussion on Sunday between Jayasuriya, President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

However, even if the ‘National Government’ is to continue, it is not clear what how the ministerial positions will be distributed among the two parties.

Even as recent as Sunday, S.B. Dissanayake of the SLFP insisted that while the party is amenable to the continuation of the ‘National Government’ they are pushing for a change in portfolios as well as the post of Prime Minister, which he said should go to an SLFPer.

It has been more than 10 days since the country was plunged into political uncertainty when the two major parties suffered a historica defeat at the hands of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna at the local government elections.

The ‘unity-agreement’ expired on December 31, 2017 and the legality of the current cabinet has been brought into question.

      Speaker Karu Jayasuriya ,

      http://www.lankatruth.com/en/2018/02/bribery-commission-files-cases-against-152-who-failed-to-say-how-they-became-millionaires/

Are any of them from the Current Parliament? What about Wimal Weerawansa and many others?

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has taken measures to take legal action against 152 persons who had suddenly become millionaires but were unable to say how they earned their income say reports.

Cases have been filed against Politicians, Magistrates, Principals, police officers, doctors, Grama Sevaka Officers, senior state officials who have earned much more than their salaries and have not been able to say how they earned the money.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has investigated complaints they had received, revealed assets and how such large amounts of money have been earned, taken statements from the accused and have filed cases against them as they had failed to show how they had earned such large amounts of money.

Reshuffle alone is not enough, President should remove all Ministers who came in to the Parliament through “Pinata Seat” and give those portfolios to younger MPs. All those Ministers who have charges filed against them should be removed from the Cabinet as well, at least until the cases are decided by the courts. Even those against whom are investigations continuing should not be given any cabinet positions. This would be the Yahapalana Government the voters expect.

Voters are saying too many politicians and cut down the list. On the otherhand, Politicians are trying to insert their children to the Parliament. Ranil Wicramasinghe is fighting for his life. but, Ranjoth Pilapitiya (son), Ronnie De mel’s son etc., want to contest from SLFP.

No new Ministerial posts, for God’s sake. Cabinet or Deputy/State Minister posts should not be increased to accommodate party leader’s backscratchers.
The initial increase of LG members from 4000 something to 8300 has now gone upto 8600 or 8900 something. This is ridiculous. Provincial Councils are white elephants which act as paid holiday homes for incompetent politicians. For the last 3 years I don’t remember seeing any work done by them. Provincial Councils should be abolished. Maintaining a massive number of politicians, their goons, kith and kin is the biggest hindrance for the progress of this country.

Ranil in Kalawanchikudi had said, I am not helping to develop the basic needs (yatithala pahasukam) of the country because I am not the president and it is not my responsibility. He had mentioned this when he came to open a Rest house. Pabakaran had said the govt not to issue permanent deeds (sinnkkara) deeds to land owners because they want to collect taxes from them. Ranil Wickramsinghe also believed that he was doing it and was trying to get back permenence tddeds because he wanted to lease those to foreign firms. I think HE got the opinion of AG on that. Arjun Knows it. Finanace minister liar also got a NEw Buick. HE is not telling exactly what happened. One time, he says, my heroic wife bought this for me and one wheel is worth a car permit I got from the govt. Other times he says, he got a good deal on the govt owned but repaired car. Raniil wickramsinghe does not know it. Probably the car registration papers say sold to a Mubarak. Ranil has specific terms to identify corrupt people with buddhism related terms. Those who know it say Ranil has some secret plan to Destroy buddhism in Sri lanka.
Anyway, Unity govt or national govt means Yahapalanaya is history. Democracy still lives.

Bombs are exploding because A’holes in the army are stealing bombs and bringing it to Colombo using public transport to sell in the black market to underworld gangs.

This is why discipline should be paramount in the military. This crap is putting innocent peoples lives in danger for these A’holes to make a quick buck.

        Update:
“ccording to Government Senior Assistant Analyst W. A. Roshan Fernando the explosion that occurred in a private bus early on Wednesday (21) in Kahagolla Diyathalawa was a result of a live hand grenade going off, Bandarawela SP Sudath Masinha said.

Police learnt that the grenade had been in the possession of a Sergeant Major from the Kahagolla army camp which had gone off after it fell onto the floor of the bus when he tried to take it out of his pocket where he had hidden it.”

This issue should have a ruling from the Supreme Court not from the Speaker who is a political appointee.
    The GONG SHOW CONTINUES.
    Was the SC even consulted?

    End of conversation:

“Speaker Karu Jayasuriya told Parliament that legal experts had advised him that parties comprising the national government did not have to submit written agreements to ensure the legitimacy of the said government.”
