Sri Lanka In Fact Won – G.L. Peiris

The most educated member of the Rajapaksa regime with a doctorate from Oxford, External Affairs Minister, Prof. G.L Peiris says that the voting tally at the UN Human Rights Council on the resolution against Sri Lanka was “23 for, and 24 against.” Talking to the State run Daily News from Hambanthota where the Foreign Minister was located while the vote in Geneva was taking place on 27th March, the erudite Minister says that “the outcome of the vote on the U.S sponsored resolution at the UN Human Rights Commission reflects that more countries are against the U.S at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.”

Gamini Lakshman Peiris

Gamini Lakshman Peiris

According to the Daily News “He added that the results do not reflect the opinion of the entire world. The Minister said Sri Lanka asked for a separate vote on the operative paragraph 10 of the resolution which proposes to handover the investigation to Human Rights Commissioner Navanetham Pilley.  However our suggestion to divest her of responsibility in this regard got 14 votes in favour where as 23 against. Ten abstained from voting, meaning that the number of countries that did not support the resolution are greater than those supporting it.”

The vote on whether to postpone the resolution was taken prior to the vote on the actual resolution. The proposal to postpone the resolution was defeated 23 to 14 which opened the floor for the actual vote where the resolution was passed with 23 countries out of 47 voting in favour and 12 against.

Speaking to State media the Minister adds “The resolution has not gained the support of the Asian region whereas 33 of the 36 countries that co-sponsored the resolution are from Europe.”

The resolution initially sponsored by five countries including the United States eventually had 41 countries joining in as co-sponsors at the time of the formal adoption. The vote on the resolution which calls for an international investigation to the human rights violations in Sri Lanka,  passed with 23 countries voting for it while 12 voting against and 12 abstentions, is now part of international law and will be implemented whether Sri Lanka accepts it or not. At the HRC a resolution is passed simply if the yes vote is more than the no. There is no practice within the UN, any other international body or in any vote for that matter where the abstentions are counted with the No vote.

Apparently the legal luminary, Rhodes Scholar, Oxford graduate, Dean of the Colombo Law Faculty and the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Prof. Gamini Lakshman Peiris  believes otherwise and argues that abstentions at the UNHRC can be counted as a No vote and therefore Sri Lanka has apparently in fact won the battle of Geneva.

This educated fool G L Peiris is so predictable. I didn’t expect anything else from the shameless professor.

Is he actually a fool? I doubt it, but, what he is cock sure of is how foolish the Sinhala masses are. The fact that he is able to make such a bizarre claim publicly clearly shows that he considers the Sinhala masses real gullibles and fools. The professor and his government couldn’t fool the international community for long but he will fool the Sinhala masses for a long time to come, for sure.

Very true. The majority Sinhalese gobble up these without even tasting. According to GL, the Government should go home because those who abstained from voting + those who voted against the government is greater than those who voted for the Government!

Lol Abhaya you dumb-arse. What did Australia and India do? You speak like they supported your cour country at the UNHRC. What a clown you are. 23 civilised countries voted against your banana repulic and 12 uncivilised countries voted in your favour. No wonder why the Sinha-lames are so dumb.

Sunday Times article today “EU Must Have Only One Vote, Not 28!” sheds the light on how this bogus ‘International Community’ is made of…
      Few Quotations from it …

“…. The USA comprises 51 member states. Russia is composed of 85. India has 28 member states. Australia has 6. All the member states of these countries have their respective Parliaments, Chief Ministers, Premiers or Governors, and law making powers! However, these member states follow a common monetary, fiscal and foreign policy. They have a single Head of the Union, Federation or State. They are represented in global and world bodies such as the UN, IMF, Word Bank, WTO, Olympic Council and International Sports bodies by a single representative, and such representative can cast only one vote at decision making times….

“….As a consequence of the EU having this unwarranted, unentitled and unjustified power, the EU has been able to engineer all types of outcomes at the UN and UN’s connected bodies. A case in point is the recent UNHRC resolution where the US and UK introduced a resolution against Sri Lanka, which received 23 votes out of the 47 member bodies of the UNHRC. However, if an assessment is made as to how many EU member states were in the 23 “countries”that voted for the resolution, it would be revealed that 9 countries which voted for the resolution were Austria, Estonia, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Rumania and UK – all EU member states. That means 9 of the votes at the UNHRC resolution should have actually been counted as one, since those 9 “countries” were mere member states of the EU. Accordingly, that would mean that the US/EU resolution hadreceived only 15 votes, instead of the stated 23!…”

“…This is probably why the highly respected former Singapore Permanent Representative to the UN, Kishore Mahbubhani was constrained to state that the Western powers have arrogated for themselves the title of “international community” and is gradually and systematically attempting to brow beat other nations into submission, with all types of unfair allegations and accusations. As he explains in his book, “Can Asians Think?”, ‘The West in effect is using international institutions, military power and economic resources to run the world in ways that will maintain Western predominance, protect Western interests and promote Western political and economic values. This combination is a prescription for disaster. Simple arithmetic demonstrates Western folly. The West has 800 million people; the rest make up almost 4.7 billion. In the national arena, no Western society would accept a situation where 15 per cent of its population legislated for the remaining 85 per cent. But this is what the West is trying to do globally’ …..”

…In the meantime, as a prerequisite to such effort, a key instrument that the West uses to democratically justify their adventures must be blunted. That instrument is the unfair advantage of the member states of the EU voting separately as individual countries at global fora. This obvious and unfair voting aberration which provides Europe with 28 votes in the global fora, when in fact they should be enjoying just one, is one which openly perpetrates a mega fraud upon the unsuspecting majority of the people of the world. This blatantly corrupt system must therefore be exposed and discontinued. To do so, a global movement must be launched to demand that the EU is relegated to its actual status of having 1 vote only, without being granted the absurd privilege of being a single country with 28 votes in the global fora….

        Buruva, Bruno Umbato,

EU the Power of Trade and what an embargo can do to belching farting lankians.

Resolution came with Legal `Power` than politics of spin!

The EU is not a federal state like US where the leader is elected.
In a vote every member state has to vote yes for a bill to be approved(the power of living life by negotiation)
Member states have the right to choose eg . UK,Czech. own currency, Swiss only common market. etc

The EU is every nation’s biggest trading partner.

The EU was built to be a common market, human rights and security.
Every nation on earth wants to be a member of EU; Asia Africa even the Russians.

Cant stand this pompous crustacean. Whom is he trying to kid. More like fighting to keep his plate of rice intact. As long as the criminal amd murderous gangster politicians of Sri Lankan regimes of all colors and ethnic groups rule this land there will be no human rights for the average citizen. The thrashing at Geneva is fully justified for what these hooligans are doing to us and our law abiding citizens, and not for the Nandikadal episode

    Another suggestion to the regime.

    In an election
    Total Number of Voters 500,000
Total Number of votes polled 350,000

    Polled favouring UPFA 150,000
    Polled favouring opposition 200,000

Voted not polled should be considered as supporting the regime
    Therefore, Polled favouring UPFA 150,000 + Not Polled 150,000 = 300,000

    UPFA won

This Arithmetic reminds me of the Lawyer who was consulted for a divorce by the Husband, on the grounds that his wife delivered within 3 months of their Marriage. The Lawyer now examines both.
How long were you married? 3 months said the wife.
How long were you married? 3 months said the husband.
How long were the two of you married?
Both husband and wife, by now, quite annoyed
say why we just told you it is 3 months.
    3+3+3=9 months.
There is no ground for divorce said the Lawyer charging both a fee.

WELL THE GOOD OLD SAYING IS TRUE ……. SINHALAYA MODAYA KAVUM KANA YODAYA…… GL IS ONE OF THE CATEGORY…… YES THE UNCHR IS RIGHT IT IS NOT ONLY WAR CRIMES….. BUT THE VIOLATION OF THE CITIZENS BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS….. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT, FREEDOM TO PRACTICE ONE’S RELIGIOUS BELIEF, FREEDOM OF GRANTING PROTECTION BY THE DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT…. BUT APPARENTLY ALL THIS HAS FAILED….. THE COURTS ARE DOMINATED BY THE GOVERNMENT, THE POLICE AND THE MEDIA ARE NOT FREE….. AND YOU DARE NOT TALK AGAINST THE SELF PROCLIAMED MAHARAJANANNE (THE KING)…. AS THE WHITE VAN WILL BE AT YOUR DOOR STEP…… MURDERERS, THUGS, DRUG PEDDLARS, RAPIST ALL PART OF THE GOVERNMENT AND IN PARLIAMENT…… THE IMPEACHMENT OF THE CHIEF JUSTICE…. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON AND ON…… IT IS THE BEST THAT THE UNCHR AND OTHER UN BODIES ACT FAST TO REGULARISE THE GOVERNING OF SRI LANKA. THE CITIZENS ARE FED UP…. EVEN AS ELECTIONS ARE RIGGED.

Peiris is a dodgy old man but sure;y he has half a point here.

When South Africa or India abstained there were reasons beyond supportive stances for Sri Lanka’s crimes.
Likewise Peiris knows well that the USA did not do anything for the good of humanity here.

So Sri Lanka did win as the UN Human Rights body is now even more full of lies and deceptions!

It is a shame that the Professor has chosen a method of using his intellingence to mis-represent the facts to the people. This shows that he has totally shed his status as an academic for his survival in a corrupt political enviornment. This example does not augur well for the future of the country as the young generation is being mis-guided by academics such as GLP.

Why does’nt Rajapaksa consider appointing him as

He will sure produce a surplus budget. He will also
raise salaries of public servants by Rs 10,000 and
at the same time slap a tax of Rs 11,000 on those
coming late. What an educated humbug!!

Rajapaksa does not want to change him. Peiris is giving

whether GL does severe damage to country’s reputation
    or not.

Here is a person who got a first class honors degree in Law, became one of Sri Lanka’s few Rhodes Scholars and then an eminent legal scholar and who could have been the one and only person in the Cabinet to convince the regime that impeaching the Chief Justice would be a massive own-goal that would come to haunt it later. Sadly, he chose otherwise and now even his capacity to use the English language to his advantage seems to have been lost and he is reduced to being a pathetic ‘arse licker’ whose sole interest seems to be hanging on to his job and the perks that come with it.

    Breaking NEWS

In an unprecedented shocking development the Sri Lankan government has published details of how the Geneva vote at the UNHRC was rigged. This has shaken the United Nations very badly.

The immediate casualty is Ms. Navaneetham Pillai, the Human Rights Tsar. She has tendered her resignation which has been accepted by Hon. Ban Ki Moon, the Secretary General of United Nations.

Mr. Ravinath Ariyasinghe, representing the Government of Sri Lanka submitted evidence on how the computer was manipulated. `Many of the abstentions were in fact votes against the motion. India for example voted against the motion.`

Hon. GL Pieris, the Foreign Minister of the troubled nation said `We are masters at this ‘Computer Jilmart’ game. We know how to manipulate elections. In fact we have a separate unit for this purpose at domestic level. They even managed to manipulate the vote at the Time Magazine poll few years ago. We also know how even the genuine votes are cast. We threw many parties and the people loved our bithara aapa and the girls. But the Americans threw bigger parties.`

The UN is steeped in corruption. During the last stages of the war, Ban himself visited Sri Lanka, only to be treated with special `hospitality` by the hosts – Ban turned a blind eye to the massacre of civilians at that time.

India voted against but it’s vote was not counted. Angry Manmohan threatened the US, the UK and the EU with economic sanctions. Fearing Indian action these countries showed their middle finger to India as sign of surrender.

GL Pieris was right. He counted 24 against 23. It is very similar to the rigged polls in Lanka recently, UPFA won although they only got 25% of the votes. 75 % of the votes were either against or abstained.

would not move at the times he says.
