Sri Lanka On The Cusp Of Implosion! White Vans Have Become ‘Black Marias’

By Vishwamithra

“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” ~ Plato

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s birthday is being celebrated by the ordinary men and women in the country as a ‘Black Monday’

Ever-lengthening queues for petrol and diesel tell a frighteningly realistic story; cooking gas is fast becoming a yesteryear’s luxury; hospitals are closing for want of drugs and surgical equipment gone inoperable due to lack of electricity and other amenities; schools have become ghost-buildings for no children can travel to them for studying; examinations are being postponed and ones that are over are lagging behind on correction of answer papers because the teachers are without facilities to bring themselves to the marking centers.

Petrol and diesel sheds are about to turn into the first battlegrounds where sparks could potentially end up in violent clashes between the police and the consumers. Patience has obviously reached its most delicate threshold. It’s not only in Colombo or other big city centers that these ominous acts are being played out; the drama is continuing to expose the malignancy of a sociopolitical system whose symptoms seem to be more gruesome than the latent disease. From Dondra Point to Point Pedro and from Colombo to Batticaloa, a seemingly vigorous chaos of crises is building its momentum to reach a fierce end or perhaps a sure beginning of the end!

Soon, morbid scenes of falling skeletons and piling up of dead bodies over one another would not be a rare sight. The numbers that went away from the Aragalapitiya (Galleface Green) are gathering themselves in all parts of the Island. The new battlefields are emerging in almost every petrol and diesel station. If and when the situation in each of these battlefields becomes more intense than could be controlled by the police personnel, deployment of the military would be inevitable. Only one shot going astray and hitting a man or woman waiting in line for petrol or diesel would be enough to develop a once manageable situation running beyond all control. Stupidity and incompetence of all governing men and women, including the political heads who call themselves Ministers and Prime Ministers and Presidents, is being exposed.

This sad and melancholic drama is being played out in full display; its boundaries are no more theatrical or artificial, they are certainly heading towards a point beyond human endurance. Violent clashes and falling men would soon be the order of the day. Anarchy is being defined and redefined with all its nuanced details; governing a population whose limits of patience and stoicism is visibly reaching a point of gruesome thunder. The political crisis that is occurring as a direct result of the economic disaster is ripening and an ostensibly leaderless people might come to the inescapable conclusion that they could really topple a democratically elected government by merely protesting against economic hardships and political corruption.

In a dramatic turn of governing principles, men, women and Buddhist Monks are being shoved into waiting police vans; mercy is not in the armor of these police forces. A Buddhist Monk was seen placing himself in between the turning wheels of the police van. Yet no mercy was shown by the police. The Monk is dragged out pushed into the van like cattle being thrown into a shed meant for slaughter.

They said that in order to make the omelet, one has to break the egg. This time the egg is being broken by the government forces. Should this mayhem continue, what would be the response of a peaceful protester? The answer might be more outrageous than the one seen on television screen all over the country: A Buddhist Monk being pushed into the Black Maria (what the British call a police van for transporting prisoners). White van has been substituted by the Black Maria.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s birthday is being celebrated by the ordinary men and women in the country as a ‘Black Monday’. June 20th has gained new meaning and its inscrutable message in being understood by all citizenry. It may not resonate well with Gotabaya’s family members but they cannot escape the hard and honest truth and brutal reality. Escape from reality and hiding themselves in a cloaked environment is no more valid for the Rajapaksa siblings. The cruel disappointment with Ranil Wickremesinghe’s performance up to date or lack thereof has not yet sunk in. The honeymoon between two unwilling partners would come to a premature end with no climax whatsoever. Or to put it more mercifully, the marriage should not have ever occurred.

Economic hardships are increasing exponentially and their telling weight on the average citizen is overbearing. Rumors that the country might lead to another lockdown without the presence of an epidemic of traditional nature might be a distant possibility. If there is no fuel to move the stationary vehicles, if there is no gas to cook meals and if there is no medicine to purchase and no hospitals to attend to the sick, what else is left for the countrymen to venture into? A once-forgotten medieval catastrophe in Europe is about to make its revisit in more sinister form in the Indian Subcontinent. It is no exaggeration to foretell all these shocking and ghastly phenomena; it’s only merciful to bare open the truth, its deadly nuances and their aftermath.

Nevertheless, it is still not too late to break the egg, this time by the people. At the core of the crisis is a crisis of confidence. The people have lost all confidence in their leaders. Not only the governing nincompoops, but also in the opposition starting from Sajith Premadasa, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Patali Champika and the rest. The only ones who could be spared are the Members of Parliament of the Tamil National Alliance led by (although not the official leader) M A Sumanthiran. Sumanthiran’s oratory and palpable pursuit of truth coupled with his mastery of facts and figures has outdone all other parliamentarians. But for all our misfortune, his words are falling on the deaf and indifferent.

Being a born Sinhalese Buddhist, it’s with an enormous amount of shame and humility the writer has to pen these bitter truths about our Sinhalese Buddhist leaders who pontificate from protected quarters that the answer to the current crises could be found without any further upheaval. The racial harmony and religious détente exhibited on the Aragalapitiya (Galleface Green) and elsewhere in remote villages, is shining like a beacon on our ailing body politic. Yet the so-called leaders have deliberately chosen to discount the home-truths and their snub on such sublime qualities of ordinary men and women and clergy of all religions would pay one day with very heavy repercussions.

Weighed down by the burden of truth of this current status, the ruling clan seems further paralyzed and rendered utterly impotent. Instead of opening their minds and altering the course of the national journey, the ruling clan has opted to get further entrenched in the rotting system that, in the first place, delivered these deplorable results.

The system needs not only to be changed; it’s begging to be rejected outright. However much one argues for adjustments, however much one makes a plausible case for slow and steady lumbering along the same old path, it seems that today’s youth are not happy nor satisfied with the outcome. Seventy five years is a long time; its history is full of contradictions that have contributed to the present predicament we all find ourselves in. From D S Senanayake downwards, except in the case of R Premadasa for three short years, we have been ruled by a ‘Familyocracy’. From the cushy lap of the Attygalle Inheritance (D S, Dudley, J R and Ranil) to the incendiary S W R D, incompetent of Sirimavo and Chandrika to irrevocably corrupt Rajapaksas, Sri Lankan family has been the subjects of three families- Senanayakes, Bandaranaikes and Rajapaksas. Being subjected to unspeakable shame and unbearable economic and political adversities, in the third decade of the twenty first century, we have been compelled to look up to our youth to lead the way.

A generation which was looked down upon by our elders, a generation whose sense and sensibility has been sharpened and wakened by the information technology (IT) revolution, the youth of today is showing most encouraging signs of maturity and accelerated development. Yesteryear’s traditions of caste, creed and religion-divisions are being rejected on a full and wholesale basis; this generation is showing that, as the cliché goes, it can walk and chew gum at the same time. Traditions, if they hinder our development as grown men and women, should be discarded without mercy. Dead cultures have no Act or place in the modern human drama. As Rabindranath Tagore once said, such traditions are death- dealing.

To embrace a modern and more legitimate social character, one must be candidly open and sublimely honest. New plants do not grow on old fields. Freshened up by the morning dew and nurtured by the basking sun and matured by its tiring assault on the outer skin, one certainly can resolve to give life a new meaning and a new beginning. It’s the only way to circumspect an implosion. That time has come, to break the egg!

The Monk is dragged out pushed into the van like cattle being thrown into a shed meant for slaughter.

The approaching of polices as seen in the picture on this event and other event is one aggravating the situation gets energy to aragalaya and increase people favor to GFA Galle Face Aragala

The police did not notify the IMF attending this Premises for discussion after the announcement done then the action will favor

Normal attention is definitely one of the best remedies because aragala is without weapons.
Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach, they police wants score some points.

“The Monk is dragged out pushed into the van like cattle being thrown into a shed meant for slaughter.”

While some monks in the south are being dragged out, push into van like cattle in the north saffron clad bigots are being protected by armed forces, police, Separtment of archaeology, ………………. all the state powers for ignoring court order which prevents them from building Vihare on Grurunthur hill.

In the meantime Sarath Weerasekere (the prince of darkness) was on his feet in the parliament trying to recreate an atmosphere in which he attempted to rekindle a sense of fear by evoking memories of LTTE, the usual diversionary tactic.

The country is facing starvation, hunger, inflation, dollar crunch, death, …… while this dumb ass is crowing about Sinhala/Buddhism, …. etc.

          “medication shortages,”

          Please note three different reports:

Dr Kishantha Dasanayake said snake bites killed 20 people due to unavailability of drugs.

Dr Channa said there is no truth in the news that there is shortages for anti venom medicines.

Rambukwella believes there won’t be any shortages of medicine after August, he didn’t say which year.

        NV,
I implore to the Sri Lankans of all and varied kinds!!
Unity is strength, which you earnestly need to overcome any difficulty, including the present one!
Division weaken and not achieve desired aspirations!
Especially those 6.9 million, believe (by now) sufficiently enlightened to ensure that, “There is no repetition” of divisive politics, if you want Sri Lanka to prosper!!otherwise all will sink!!
NO more space for “NEXT TIME” and ’Saviours’!!
        Don’t elect Buffoons to parliament!!
No IMF, World Bank, ADB, IDA, India, China, EU and Bangladesh!!!
Imagine, if Sri Lankans cannot work hard and earn income/USD for their own use, how hard the Indians, Chinese, Russians, Europeans, Bangladeshis and International community have to work HARDER to pay for their needs and FIND SURPLUS to offer to Sri Lankans as Gratis, or even loans?!
The unity that evidenced now, must embolden Sri Lankans to continue from strength to strength and enable desist divisive politics of opportunist to cause dismay, despair and destituteness! This must not allowed to regain it’s Head, destroy Camaraderie and effervescence of Sri Lankan populace.
Pray that God, the most merciful, allows Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans that gift to eternal prosperity!!??

          I am all for unity.
In fact I always advocated the idea of Unity in Diversity.

In the recent months Our public racists Udaya, Wimal, Athuralia, Elle, Sangha the Prince of Darkness ….. have been trying to transform this protest into something against Minorities, India, USA, …… These racist could not feed their own people let alone taking on powerful countries. Racists do not know their weaknesses definitely do not know how damaging their statement which completely understood as gibberish.

Chambika and Sarath have found LTTE as useful as IMF interventions.
Until these racists are defeated in their own game and sent home there is going to be no peace, no unity, no solution, …..

I doubt the 6.9 understood the gravity of the problem.
Economic crisis was not created yesterday, this the cumulative result of 74 years of hard work by parochial politics of Majoritarian interventions in all aspects of this island’s life.

The Sangha and their foot soldiers saffron clad Ku Klax Klan are not in the business of propagating Buddha’s teaching instead they are involved in spreading hatred, justification for violence, money making, land grabbing, building empire for themselves, ………………..

    Who drafted the 21A?
Within a short span of time, this is the 3rd Amendment drafted by the US Embassy in Colombo. And, as usual, the 21A also came out of the blue. There was absolutely no talk about a 21A prior to protests organised by civil society, YouTubers, faith leaders, entrepreneurs and political activists who were heavily funded to make “important democratic changes” in Sri Lanka, AGAIN.
It is pretty obvious that the 21A was drafted secretly (most probably last year) and then organized protests calling a “system change” to pave the way for the Amendment. Going by tradition, I am sure the new US Ambassador is committed to get the 21A passed in Parliament.
As the country witnessed, Sri Lanka became utterly vulnerable after the 19A drafted by the US Embassy so much so there wasn’t a Head of State for Intelligence Officers to report their findings on Suicide bomber Sahran Hashim and his terrorist outfit. Both the PM and the previous Parliament who were entrusted with Presidential Powers under 19A evaded responsibility to protect the country while the President stayed out of the country. If it is not for the same purpose, what is 21A for?

No, it was not out of the blues, if you understand what that means? The matter was discussed Ad Nauseum, since the 1st week of March 2022, when the Master security expert and Saviour of the Sovereignty of SL people was found to be ‘Fats Asleep at the Wheel!’ The USD took and unsavoury and unmitigated run from 203 SL Rs to 345 SL Rs??!! Sovereignty of the economy is the forefront of a nation’s national security, NOT NECESSARILY HOW YOU HOLD A T56 OR AK 47??!!

        1. Who drafted the 21A? When and where?
        2. Is the 21A a reintroduction of the failed 19A, or not?
        3. Did the 19A curtail Presidential Powers and transfer them to the PM and Parliament, or not?
        4. As per the 19A, the PM was the Head of Cabinet of Ministers, not the President. What action did they take when they were informed of an imminent terrorist attack in 2019 even with all the details of Muslim terrorists and their whereabouts?
        5. What action did the Speaker and Parliamentarians take upon notified by the Police in writing about a terrorist attack in 2019?

            Mahila
Thank you for proving that you know nothing about the topic you decided to challenge.
            1. Wrong answer.
The Minister of Justice assumed duties only on Friday, May 20, 2022 (Source: Hiru News) and on Sunday, May 22 he said that the 21A would be referred to the Cabinet on Monday, May 23 (Source: The Economic Times). When did he draft the 21A? In one day, on Saturday, May 21? Who entrusted him to do so? The truth is, the President had the 21A drafted by the US Embassy in Colombo which was presumably handed over to the Minister of Justice after he assumed duties on May 20.
            2. Wrong answer again.
The Minister of Justice himself has admitted in Parliament that the 21A is something which is close to the 19A. (Source: Daily Mirror – June 21, 2022)
            3. Good.

              4. I invite you to read the 19A at least now and read news archives to learn how the then PM and the Cabinet took decisions without even informing the then President. Many times, the then President lamented that he came to know about Cabinet Decisions only through newspapers! The best example is the decision taken by the then Minister of Finance in 2016 to raze down 250,000 trees in State Plantations and sell them to meet the Budget deficit. Through a Sinhala website, I made a request to the then President who was also the Minister of Environment to cancel the Cabinet Paper forthwith. At a meeting where the then Minister of Agriculture was also present, the then President said that he revoked the decision to cut trees while admitting that he wasn’t even aware of such a decision.
              5. A typical reply by a member of CT’s non-Sinhala non-Buddhist Haters’ Club who resort to slander when the debate is lost.
You didn’t reply to my questions 4 and 5.

                Your original question was,
“2. Is the 21A a reintroduction of the failed 19A, or not?”
Your comment revisited has the following remarks and note capitalised portion of your remark below:
                “2. Wrong answer again.
The Minister of Justice himself has admitted in Parliament that the 21A is something WHICH IS CLOSE TO THE 19A. (Source: Daily Mirror – June 21, 2022)”
Being CLOSE TO THE 19A IS NOT REINTRODUCTION OF 19A?? YOUR CONVOLUTION OF FACTS.
You seem to have an issue with understanding the Language, please follow a course to upgrade!
The answer given is NO and it is the fact and reality!! It is not the REINTRODUCTION OF 19A as the functionality would not be same!!!??
If that is the case WR, could have repealed the 20th amendment and the problem would have been solved and if that happens, yes the answerwould be different; NOT OTHERWISE!
Thanks for your edification in understanding language and interpretation, thereof of uninitiated!!
You save your brain power, claims are abundant as being sat on, resulting in constriction, of free, fair thought flow!!!

Make sure you do read them and the TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS of the 19A, which ensures that power transfer as envisaged does not take place until the end of 1st Term of your beloved, “Luck by Chance” Sillysena President in end 2019/beginning January 2020, entirely dependent on who wins that election??!!
Not interested in what, Sillysena said or did, as much as not interested of acts and spillage of garbage from the mouths of nincompoops, because he is a President, he was given nomination by another party (UNP) than his own on the understanding and undertaking given to Venerable Madulwewe Sobitha Thero of Kotte Raja Maha Viharaya, which he did not keep – Broken promise to the electorate!!
Current problem including lowering age of women going to Middle East from 24 to 21 years is all due to his (Silly Sorry Sirisena) making!! Aappaya!!

                Which I am certainly not!!
Take serious offence of and note thereof, considering magnitude of my Sinhala and Buddhist friends, whose advice to respond firmly and factually!
                Hence, following:

                51. Notwithstanding ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY IN THE CONSTITUTION, the person holding office as President on the DATE OF COMMENCEMENT OF THIS ACT, SO LONG AS HE HOLDS THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT (in this case 20th November 2019) may assign to himself the subjects and functions of DEFENCE, Mahaweli Development and Environment and DETERMINE THE MINISTRIES TO BE IN HIS CHARGE FOR THAT PURPOSE and accordingly, any reference in any written law to the Minister to whom such subject or function is assigned, shall be read and construed AS A REFERENCE TO THE PRESIDENT

My suggestion is that you read the TRANSITIONAL PROVISION of the 19th amendment please?
Certain you did not, that is where the misconception you seem to entertain is???
Until end of term of Sillysena, Yapa Gamarala Sirisena was the person in charge as the HoC, HoG, HoS, CIC and MoD!!! Not RW was a mere postal peon from parliament to HoG!!!
You see even Nandasena Gotabaya, has read it in full and understood it!!
That is why he demanded that 20th amendment to be passed on the first sitting of parliament after 2020 august elections!!! Because only after the exit of Sillysena the, full effect of the powers would be effect and if not amended MR would be more powerful than GR President elected (himself)!!??

If 19A curtailed the executive presidential powers

          1) How could SORYSENA have been that powerful to appoint MaRa as the premier in Oct 2018 ?

          2) How could SORYSENA be able to hold SECURITY COUNCIL sesions not allowing Prmier and deputy minister of defence be away from such sessions ?

          3) Experts and analysts kept on asking why SORYSENA as then president failed to appoint an ” acting defence minister” while he was absent during the few days, that EASTER sundy disaster let happening ?

          4) If what you repeat is right, how on earth could SORYSENA as the president be able to sack that powerful lady, Ms Dilrukshi Wickramasinghe, who was the incharge of FCID, a person whose brave acts were well recognized by the people in this country then…

          5) If what your prevarications or fabrications are not untruths, why on earth former executive president never allow to release the ” recommendations made by PRESIDENTIAL commission report on RAJPAKAHSE high crimes”.. ?

          6) If you dont know the facts CHAMPA better go back to the kitchen and stay scraping coconunt.. you the kind of BORN stupid are the real CANCER for this nation.

There was as said before discussion Ad Nauseum, hence your assertion is w/o ssubsatnce/facts
      2a.
Incorrect assertion. Fact is Defence and also Internal Security Ministry, were held by President as per the ‘TRANSISITONAL PROVISIONS’ OF THE 19TH Amendment and NOT PM & Parliament as claimed?!
      2b.
No evasion could occur when the powers per say was not devolved to anyone. Cry baby MS wanted those to be with him at least for the 1st term, until after 2020! Probably he wanted to experiment his hobby of “setting fire to his Chena Cultivation – which he did to his fathers’ Chena – w/o others knowledge”
The only person who evaded responsibility was none other than the ‘Sorrysena’ (SS) president himself!!
      2c.
President SS is the miscreant, under pressure from GOD to do some ‘PIN’ forgot to follow the constitutional provision to appoint and ACTING DEFENCE MINISTER to protect SL security!! THIS IS LIKE TYING ONES HAND BEHIND AND ASKING TO RUN THE MARATHON!! SS should have been tried for Treason against the state, if not impeached for “Not upholding the constitution”??!!!

      A. 225 OTHERS WOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE CONTROL OVER WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SL
      B. TO AVERT THE MISERY AND CALAMITY OF STARVATION, LACK OF MOBILITY, COOKING GAS AND MILK FOODS FOR INFANTS!!??
      HOPE HELPS ANSWER YOUR DILEMMA!!
Secondary and important reason for the amendment ofcourse was to permit the HE to devote more time to his pet HOBBY of organic agriculture on the advice of Athana, Methana, Natana Naluwas’ advice on the matter to enhance agricultural production!!
We have wider focus and should not trammel the HE from getting Nobel price!!

@Champa, there is no nice way of putting this but you are an absolute cow mate. People like you and your conspiracies are why the younger generation of Sri Lankans want to leave en masse – Our own people electing uneducated, unqualified and simple-minded leaders based on sentiment (whether it be on terrorism, religion, race, Neo-colonialism fears) rather than rationale has set us back since ’48.

Actually, I think most Sri Lankans now would prefer that we become a colony of the US, China or India given how things are being handled by this current lot of losers – People at least get a decent passport, and a semblance of intelligent governing in this country. I am personally, all for this – Give out all our national assets for free even to make this happen, and let the entire 225 hang in front of parliament.

@Native agree that it’s an easy way out out, their assets however should be clawed back before they’re sent to the noose – Keeping them in a prison cell is also unfortunately a waste of taxpayer money that these MPs are not worth. I think the coming wave of unrest if things continue like this will be far more crazy than May 09th too – I’m not a violent person (And most Sri Lankans aren’t either) but I for one would like to see some Il Duce / Saddam style hangings, Sri Lankans have been too complacent for the last 74 years, letting these people rob them blind. I say, send them to the gallows along with their cronies and enablers, and send a message for those who come next – That 226 individuals and their enablers thought wrong when they assumed that they have no accountability towards the will of 23 Million people.

“Saddam style hanging” Why not Gaddafi style lynching? It is even sicker.
Do you think that it is right for an invader to throw out the legitimate ruler and make a kangaroo court order hanging him?
Ask yourself why US is now most hated in that part of Asia. Now Saddam is remembered more kindly, despite his cruelty to Kurds and Marsh Arabs.

Champa has been entertaining us the CT readers by her JOKEs from the day one. There is a saying in sinhala vernacular – the kind of ilk would look at your fingers, when pointing them the moon. This culture would not be ever lasting until the age groups remain in our RAJAPAKSHE-punished island.

You are talking about giving out of all of our assets – would there be other option with today’s critical situation ?

Champa is highly talented for her facetious comments- a ” self proclaimed researcher” – learnt person according to her, nevertheless continously add her ludicrous statements one behind the other.
        .
My friends make me clear again and again that chronic dementia is predestined in some of our so called sinhala buddhists. They talk yet today high about “our sinahala race” – even if entire world has no branded srilanka behind “Malawi”.

      Hi Champa,
      Morning
In short, to answer in 1 or 2 sentences, it is HUBRICE that the PM at the Easter 2019, bombing time had powers of HoC, HoG of Sri Lanka??!!
The ‘TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS’ of the 19th amendment integral part of the amendment passed at the same time (because Sillysena claimed that he was elected on that premise on 8th January 2015) and he must retain it and will be 1 term President, Sirisena retained being the HoC, HoG, HoS, CIC and MoD!
Remember he refused to appoint a new Defence Minister after the 2018 October ‘Political coup’ appointing MR president and Supreme Court ruling, to reinstate RW as PM??!!
Fooling the gullible masses all the time by political sycophants and tricksters!!

First he came for the Sinhalese youth, killed and buried them en masse: We couldn’t care because we thought these fellows were JVP insurgents, or terrorists.

Then he came with his brothers for the Tamils in Mullivaaikkaal: We said they were LTTE terrorists, besides they are Demalas anyway.

Convincing accusations of war crimes, and crimes against humanity are still hanging around his neck

Then some hamuduruos wanted a Hitler to lead the country: He came forward with his visions of prosperity and splendor and became the president promising Sinhala-Buddhist glory with 6.9 million votes.

Then he reminded the citizens that he has a dark side too; Warned them not to cross his path. Now people ( 6.9 million and more) want him to go because he brought calamity to the country to become bankrupt. People cannot get food, fuel, medicines and other essentials.

Now he says he won’t go! Will he now show his countrymen his dark side?

“If they are convincing accusations of war crimes, and crimes against humanity what the hell UN was doing for 12 years without taking him to Hague. They are cooked up accusations by Sooka.”
        How very TRUE??
if they are indeed ‘cooked up’, why aren’t AH’s such as calibre of people like Luxman P, Dinesh G, Mahinda S, Dayan J., et all claiming at the UNHRC that they are against an independent inquiry??? This plodding (as they say in Cricket) at UNHRC has been going on since the end of the war???
For what reason, may ask, if these are not fact but fiction??
Have an independent inquiry and you have nothing to fear, because they are fake?
Independent inquiry and not by FAKE locals “POOSA, CAT, MYNAH” etc.
It seems, that sense is appearing and you are sensible?!
Come September 2022, do not send anyone to disclaim HR violations, but support, the UNHRC process to clemency as did the YAHAPALANYA government and Mangala did in 2015??
        You are a legend EE!!!!!!!!!!!

A timely and realistic warning of an impending implosion. The question is not whether the egg will be broken but whether it will fall in the fire or the pan where it can be made into a gourmet meal. All signs are that it will be the former, as being warned by Vishmamitra., as our leaders seem to be sleeping at the wheel. If not now, when is the time for the leaders to lay out before the people a credible plan of action in terms of satisfying their hunger and mobility as well as their yearning for a system change from one that has failed them to one that they can hang on to in their desperation with the hope that better days are still ahead? Short of that, we will soon be looking for the number to call the Fire Department to put off the fire that began with the egg in the kitchen that will engulf the entire house and its occupants!

Buddhist Monks are being shoved into waiting police vans; ….A Buddhist Monk was seen placing himself in between the turning wheels of the police van. ….The Monk is dragged out pushed into the van like cattle being thrown into a shed meant for slaughter.
    ========
When Buddhist monks scream racial hatred towards Tamils/Muslims or lead a mob to attack minority owned property or get drunk and behave violently in NE the police looks on and even encourage.
..but when the monks turn against the very sam government that natured their racist behavior the police comes down on them with force

“Impending implosion” is because the current rulers do not represent a true “National Government”.
The INTERIM GoSL should have ABLE cabinet ministers and PM. Most of the SLPP ministers are not suitable to hold their posts. I do not want M.Sirisena to hold any position in the National Government.
Ranil.W and NGR had to GO FIRST.

    VM,
“Being a born Sinhalese Buddhist, it’s with an enormous amount of shame and humility the writer has to pen these bitter truths about our Sinhalese Buddhist leaders who pontificate from protected quarters that the answer to the current crises could be found without any further upheaval. The racial harmony and religious détente exhibited on the Aragalapitiya (Galle face Green) and elsewhere in remote villages, is shining like a beacon on our ailing body politic. Yet the so-called leaders have deliberately chosen to discount the home-truths and their snub on such sublime qualities of ordinary men and women and clergy of all religions would pay one day with very heavy repercussions.”
Absolutely right and seems that we are at a point of time, as in 1965 -70, when the elitist government did not see the woe some wailing of the populace and thought it fit to promise “Rice from the moon” to inveigle the electorate to win elections and virtually sowed the seeds of the 1971 insurrection, sacrificing the innocent lives of almost 25,000 Sri Lankans.

Interested people and parties may pass/place blame on the JVP, but one needs to remind that the depository power to restore, maintain and secure the lives and livelihood remains the prime responsibility of the state and therefore solely and primarily accountable for their wellbeing, through a recognised system of Good Governance being the prime and important objective.
    Not any other means!!
    Definitely not the ‘Jack Boots’
End up with catastrophic undesirable results!!
Convenient arranged, civilised negotiations, realistically, but not treating the protestors as ignorant and illiterate or foolish!!
Negotiations to be productive, should be on the recognised basis that your opponent is more intelligent and crafty than oneself!!!
Given all the above, tend to agree, that the time is not “Far Away”, to break the egg to make the Omelette!!
None could expect and predict the outcome, right now?? Uncertain as it is because one cannot definitely right off the possibility of a stray bullet hitting the bystander or one in the queue??!!
Then the egg may happen to fall into the fire instead of the pan!!!
    All opportunities are lost forever!!!
That’s not the intention or outcome expected and should be avoided!!

I dont know why this is news to anyone. We have no $ . Russia and China will not help with IMF in the works. It is unclear if the IMF will even agree to terms given the political instability. and the gon part of the so called aragalaya.

Hyperinflation like in Argentina is imminent. people will have to get used to parking their fancy cars and using public transport or bicycles or walking.

At these fertilizer prices, organic fertilizers will be the only option.

Things are going to be really difficult. I am not sure this new generation of spoilt kids can handle this. They are still going to cricket matches like there is no tomorrow. There is obviously enough money and Gas to get to the galleface. and enough money to burn other people’s property.
