A Sri Lankan man claims he has survived without food for the last five years.
Although experts believe humans can only live for two months without a meal, Kirby de Lanerolle insists he has only needed fresh air as nourishment.
The breatharian also claims his lifestyle – which he says harnesses light, wind and the ‘vibrations of God’ – can reverse the ageing process and make him immortal.
In an interview on TV show Taboo USA cited by The Sun, de Lanerolle said: ‘There are energy sources out there that are greater than the food calories you are putting in your body.
‘Calories come from photons and light and vibrations and wind. Anything can feed you if your energy centres are open.’
He admits to having eaten seven 500-calorie meals over the last ten months, but claims they made him feel ill.
He said: ‘In this consciousness, when I do eat food, it makes me feel very tired. And my alertness goes away when I eat now.’
According to odditycentral.com, de Lanerolle was a drug addict at the age of 16.
But he has gone on to become a Gold medalist at the Junior National Level Championship for Rifle Shooting in 1995, winner of several boxing medals, Executive Advisor to the Ministry of Social Services in Sri Lanka and a successful entrepreneur.
He is also believed to be the only person known to have completed a marathon having only consumed water for three months.
He claims he owes his dramatic turnaround in fortunes to the breatharian lifestyle.
Around five years ago, he read about people who didn’t eat for up to six years and didn’t drink water for 40 days and 40 nights.
He was also convinced by the writings of a guru who said that cancer, diabetes and heart disease are caused by food.
He now wants to teach others to be breatharians, but experts are worried about his claims because some people have died trying adopt the lifestyle.

You have no idea how good this is going to be to the human race. If some do-gooder doesn’t fk things up, this guy is going to find a lot of followers. I hope he does his recruiting in Sri Lanka first; then he can go do it in the US or where ever.

I think this is going to be MARA’s next and last plan in his Mahinda Chinthanaya concoct in leading the brainless people in this country into Wonder of Asia situation-self-inflicted and voluntary starvation advocated by a “wind eating” Executive Advisor to the Ministry of Social Services in Sri Lanka-“a successful entrepreneur”! Under the leadership and directions and advices of the President of Sri Lanka this “wind eater” will be salvaging the people of this country in the coming years-don’t eat, let the winds, photons, lights, vibrations and above all the Mahinda Chinthanaya do the job; after all it is calories that matter and not this shitty food which cause cancer, diabetes and hear failures! By the way, why the hell did he consume those 7 meals of 500 calories which made him ill, worse? Now look at the lifestyle of this budding “immortal being”-Rifle Shooting and boxing hitting! Whaat? An immortal being shooting and boxing? I am pretty sure even Lord Buddha and the Jesus Christ would envy this man! Sure, sure, MARA must have sent his 4-engine lost making plane to bring him down from US to learn this art of “immortality” lest the stupid American learn and steal the trick from him!!!!!!!! Wonder what his fiancé thinks and feels of him when she is in the bed with him-like wind blowing through her!!!!!!

Scholars are fallible but the Quran is not. If the scholars mistakenly stated it was days, and the meaning of the word “YAWM” also means “stages” or “”PERIODS OF TIME” it is not Rocket Science to conclude that “”PERIODS OF TIME” is the correct explanation period. Only charlatans, rabble rousers, mischief makers can conclude otherwise.

Another mis-direction by Lester. Talk about this con artist, you stupid.
/
Lester / June 30, 2013
In your dreams. For thousands of years, Muslims believed the Earth was created in 6 days. Then one day science discovered the actual number is 6 billion. Some Muslim scholars then began their revisionism , saying that 6 days means 6 periods. The fact of the matter is, if science had not made the 6 billion discovery, Muslims would still believe in 6 day Creation.

Immortal Being / June 30, 2013
Quite a large number of Sri Lankans are various diseases infested and health sources reveal majority of them suffer from anemia!
Meryn Silva has reportedly confessed to a newspaper that he drinks his own urine everyday resembling the Indian MP Morarji Desai who lived up to 100 years and that that was the secrete behind his good health! Like Mervyn Mahinda too seems to be in good health and one wonders what the reason could be! Soon the regime is likely to come up with a new finding unique to Sri Lanka’s Mahinda Rjapaksha rule of how to recycle ones own feces and enhance Mervyn’s already tested and proved “live on urine” theory repudiating all forms of nutritional and medical sciences!
Now we are going to have following scenarios as sources of sustenance which would likely lead all of us to immortality under MaChaBaGo rule:
1. Live on wind, light, vibrations and photons.
2. Drinking urine can enhance and complement the above way of life.
3. For a change for the immortal beings who practice above methods there will be a feces eating method introduced as a special complement courtesy Mahinda Rajapaksha inc.
/
Samson / June 30, 2013
This is a kind a single story not advisable other to follow.
It is the genetics and main factor that makes someone bodily unique. Genetics of the particular man could be varied from the average. So as said to be a sporty person, his body immunity should also be best. It is true that many in developing countries such ours are suffering from a variety of anemia. Lack of iron and the minerals should be reason for a nation whose meals consist of no balanced portions of proteins. Contrary to the developed world, people in our countries do have these these health problems accompanying from their child age. Instead of saving the people by studying the health problems, introducing new patterns like the one in the article does so, is not acceptable for the average. Apart from all these, numbers shown as malnutrition in our country is considerably high.

Well, I visited his face book page and it paints a realistic and no-problematic profile to this breatharian’s version of living, with “other sources of foods” requiring more facts, scientific explanations and proofs. Anyway this facebook version is worth being pursued the way it claims regarding good dieting habits, getting rid of bad habits etc. but the medical and nutritional observations and opinions too must complement this system. Basically true Buddhism has covered these grounds thousands of years ago. His position as the “Executive Advisor to the Ministry of Social Services in Sri Lanka” however does not seem to have done anything at all to alter the piggish ways of living and acting of the very constituent members of the regime under which he works in the above “advisory” capacity! May be they are not listening to him!

This article is very misleading because it says Kirby claims to have survived without food for 5 years. This is incorrect because he says he has practiced being a Breatharian for 5 years which doesn’t necessarily mean he hasn’t eaten in 5 years. I know him personally and know what he practices to be true and I am also aware of the fact that he occasionally eats small meals or drinks juices, water and tea. He just doesn’t need 3 full meals a day like most of us. If you want to know the real story its best to watch some of his interviews or the episode of Taboo on the National Geographic Channel which recently featured him or check out his page at:
https://m.facebook.com/happybreatharian.kirby.delanerolle/posts/294685280675639
Newspapers like sensationalist headlines to catch people’s attention and in this case its very misleading and makes this sound like a scam. The reality is simpler and much more logical and easier to accept, with an open mind of course.
/
Sangakkara / July 1, 2013
So are you a follower of him? Tell me one thing, does this mean that you do not believe that you will die (physically) but live for ever. In other words you are immortal ??? We all will die because our bodies are ageing and decaying, but are you saying that your body will not be like ours and you will live forever in the current state you are?
/
Soni / July 1, 2013
Actually I am not a follower. I love my food and frankly eat too much. However, knowing him and seeing the transformation that has taken place in his life and the lives of many around him and having taken the time to discuss and understand some of the facts of this philosophy better, I can see there is value in this for those who pursue it with an open mind.
And no I dont think I will live forever but would like to pursue this practice at some point in order to gain more control over my eating habits and lead a healthier life, although not one without food.
I was making 2 points in my previous post: 1. The article here misrepresents the reality of Kirby’s story and the practice of Breatharianism.
2. If anyone is sincerely curious to learn more about the facts of Breatharianism there are better sources to seek information from than this article and some if the other sensationalist headlines we have seen.
To each his own, you can pursue information with an open, curious analytical, mind (not blind faith) or you can bash and insult without getting a proper understanding of the issue at hand.

King Neon / July 2, 2013
i’m a believer, and yes… yes i do believe, i can possibly live forever, at the very least longer than most :D. Even medical science is saying that with improving medical facilities and standards, and purely on human evolutionary standards, there are people who are being born who can and will live upto a 1000 years with the help of modern science and medicine.
I think people really need to check out his facebook page because he sets the record straight after many international media sites have completely misrepresented his breatharian lifestyle. He never professed to have not eaten for five years, he has been on the road to full breatharianism for five years, meaning he’s only achieved being a breatharian (notone who doesn’t eat, but one who doesn’t NEED to eat ALONE to find the energy that our bodies are supposedly living off of the processed food we eat). Kirby himself said:
“Never have I anywhere falsely stated that I have been eating only God’s elements for 5 years. In fact I have given accurate account of my diet even before Nat Geo when I was featured in TEDx late last year stating to only have eaten “4 meals in 5 months”.
It’s very true that humans are ageing and decaying now even in a more rapid rate due to unhealthy lifestyles, a lack of spirituality, a lack of interest in the right kinds of food and exercise (all of which, through tests have shown to increase a lifespan to incredible amounts moreso than current standards, google please!). Besides, look around you… kids are dying of diabetes and heart attacks. But my hope in what kirby talks about, living forever?? i get my hints and theories from an intersting documentary i watched.
I remember watching a documentary called “fat sick and nearly dead” where the researcher talks about how as kids, we were constantly injuring ourselves or getting sick, but our body would repair itself almost immediately, and we would recover from sickness far faster. But overtime, we loose that ability due to the fact we grow up and loose the activity, the nutrient rich food, and the lack of time for all of that.
Since i’ve met kirby, i’ve managed to understand all of that, and find all of those things, this man was speaking of, and all those things that extend my life.. and that stuff really works men.
Kirby gets misrepresented alot, and i think thats sad. He’s a brilliant, funny, smart man with lots of heart. he’s never pushed, forced his spirituality on anyone, including me. lol.. sometimes i wish he did, because he’s a lot wiser than most people above his years. He has time and time again never held anything back about his past, and that for me.. has shown how far he’s come from his dark past and history. He’s held nothing back.
He just happens to be a wise man, with great ideas, and sound advice, atleast for my ears and my family. we’ve become healthier, smarter, wiser, younger looking, constantly growing into our many decades ahead.
We all die, it’s true. plants die, animals die, humans die, beliefs die, even Gods and hope, and love dies along with those who held on to it. But what if we could live longer, what if somewhere down the line someone didn’t think it was relevant to know that we CAN live for longer if we choose to do certain things to help our bodies be better than the current decay it falls prey to?
