Stop Turning Mattala Airport Into A Paddy Storage: Namal

Turning Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport into a paddy storage was done as an act of revenge against the Rajapaksa’s, says MP Namal Rajapaksa.

Namal RajapaksaIn a statement issued today Namal the eldest son of former President Rajapaksa urged both the President and the Prime Minister to act immediately to bring to a halt such revengeful acts against the former rulers and use the facility for the benefit of the country.

In a hard hitting statement Namal described the Mattala airport as one of the most successful development initiatives launched by the Rajapaksa regime while adding that he condemns the act of turning it into a paddy storage with deep abhorrence.

The younger Rajapaksa pointed out that such large scale development projects are enacted with long term goals in mind and these will not produce instant benefits or garner popularity.

As an example Namal pointed out to the Mahaweli multi-purpose irrigation scheme and added that it had taken several years for the country to reap the full benefits of the project.

Rajapaksa suggested that the government using the Airport in conjunction with the Hambantota harbour could develop an economic zone encompassing five provinces in the country.

Meanwhile a group of residents and a section of the employees at the Mattala Airport on Wednesday staged a protest against the Government’s move to store paddy in a warehouse of the airport.

They blocked the road leading to the Airport as the first lorry carrying paddy stocks to be stored in the warehouse reached the airport.

The Paddy Marketing Board had earlier asked for some warehouse facilities at Mattala as the storage facilities of the Food Department, Co-operative Department and several stores of the Army have already been utilized to store the Yala season paddy harvest.

A PMB official said “there was congestion at the PMB stalls because we insisted on maintaining standards and procedures when purchasing paddy from farmers. As we exceed the capacity of our storage facilities, we have requested for storage facilities at Mattala Airport” .

Mattala, Sri Lanka’s second international airport was built in the home constituency of the Rajapaksa’s when they were in power.

However, the facility failed to attract international air traffic mainly due to its isolated location, more than 200 km’s from the capital, Colombo.

I have never seen an uneducated, illiterate, greedy pigs of a family in my whole life. You idiots shouldnt have got the vote from this gas gembas in villages. Just created unwanted white elephants just to put your stupid appachchis name at the expense of the public money. They should introduce a law to prohibit displaying politicians name in public property.

Namal calf should know that , according to their own belief , going behind all Hindu Temples in India for favors from Gods, this Mattala Air port in birds sanctuary is one reason for his Appachchi’s defeat, because some 400 peacocks-the vehicle of god Kataragama, were killed by Air force to facilitate Plane landing, in addition to it’s being means of getting billion dollar corrupt money for his Appachchi.

So at least now it’s being used for paddy storing & no more killing of birds including peacocks.

Namal Putha: I know your dreams of following your Appacchi and forcing yourself as a super intellectual failed.

Here is the reality. You chaps should have been humble and simple when you were in power. Instead you guys became arrogant. Your close relatives STOLE money from the national airline; your close relatives with Olevel failures were made diplomats and they CHEATED and Canada even refused to accept that one chap who also took off borrowing a lot of money from people: and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Your desire to have nightraces in Kandy was absurd. Even the SLFP Governor of Central Province and Chief Priests advised you against it and your brothers decided to force it.

Arrogance and a sense of infallibility is what made you guys lose. I am glad SL is a democracy because look at what happened to Gadaffi. At least you lost in an election and you are still in Parliament and you are popular in your home district.

Think of rectifying the mistakes. Admit to mistakes in blatant nepotism. I am not sure if the accusations about Lamborghinis are true but we know your Maama Uncle at UL and your maamas in US etc made hay while the sun shined.

Again another uneducated non foreign service man as Ambassador to Russia just because he is your cousin? My3 is not that great but the blatant arrogance and greed is what led to your father’s downfall. Young people had enough of it; winning the war was great but 5 years later when you change the constitution to remain in power, people had enough of it.

People still love and respect your father more than they do CBK or RW etc outside Colombo. Do not lose it but do not start whining at everything. You will lose credibility if you do that. Admit to mistakes, Admit to nepotism and fix the problems.

We are a democracy and we do not need PRinces and PRincesses and GodKings.
But you will have to answer If(I say IF) t hose allegations of murder and corruption are true. You guys ran amok and that is why you are in this situation now. Absurd vain projects to glorify yourselves. Mattala, Cricket Stadium and Harbour and above all stealing CBK’s idea and naming even the Chinese FREE (GIFT) the Cultural center where CBK did the funding and planning was named after your father! Why?

Become a Real Buddhist first. Not a Temple going, Pirith nool and luck charm wearing superstitious man. Introspection is important. Then you can make a come back when RW fouls things up and becomes the US puppet.

    Be patient.

Your problem was that your Dad thought he would promote you like Anura Bandaranaike was promoted but the way they did it had class and was refined and not “in your face” crude forcing way that all of you behaved. Anura went to London School of Economics and you didn’t have the grades to go to Oxford despite all attempts to grab some prestige. That is because of an inferiority complex. Then your youngest brother bragged about Louis Vitton belts and shoes. Where was the sense of proportion and simplicity and living by example? Really Son you need to take stock of what went wrong in private behavior first before complaining about a White Elephant being turned into a Godown for Paddy.

We know about Liberty Plaza and the Madam and also why your honest and dedicated Uncle Gota stopped those.

Gota is a great guy who cleaned up Colombo and I do not think he is corrupt; he was paranoid about your good once upon a time Friend Sarath Fonseka. Look at the way he was humiliated because you guys were paranoid.

All in all Son, be patient, FIX and REFORM your family attitudes towards power and then people will always be grateful to your Appachchi for winning the war. But Churchill lost the year after leading England too. Reflect on your errors and sins and if murders were committed in your family’s name then that is wrong too.

Be patient and fix your sins first. We need more Gotas and less white elephant Airports to fix things for the Rajapakses. Imagine a man who failed Olevels being charge of 70% of the money of the State under your regime? Why have a Wharf clerk overseeing the Foreign Ministry and burning tens of billions on an Airline the country did not need?

Tassimo, I agree. But, Anura got admission to Royal through the backdoor, the entrance exam being scrapped for his year. He never went to the LSE. That is a bit of fiction like his sister having a Sorbonne degree. May be they had class as fraudsters but they were frauds too. MR’s problem is that he killed too many people. Killing Tamils may be okay because they had been dehumanised but killing so many of his SInhalese enemies was simply not okay.

I accept most of the things you mentioned. But we dont want any rajavassas coming in to power in the future. ( President nor Prime minister) These responsible positions should be given to educate leterates who has a great vision. Rajvassas had the chance but they proved (I am talking about the whole family nieces newphesd uncles aunts all connected to rajavassas) that they are illeterates and thieves who will murder threaten innocent civilians for their power greed. The uneducated people which got misled as well as the corrupter s and thugs voted for the Rajapakshe’s. But still enough to bring them to Parliament. First of all before this artificial lawyer opens his mouth, someone should tell him about grooming himself and learn manners. A MP with hairs like a porky pine and apparently no razor blades in his bathroom, even sitting infront of monks in short trousers, should not be allowed in parliament.

Here is some stats for my mate Native Vedda and his cabal..

Australia, after 22 years of consecutive growth is all most in recession, based on the growth figures of the first two quarters.

The Government is desperate to capitalize on Tourism to push the country towards growth by getting the Chinese Middle class to visit .

The Government estimates that 225 Million Middle Class Chinese will be travelling overseas in the next 5 to 10 years.

The OZ Govt doesn’t have the dosh or the land to build Airports to cater for this ginormous influx of tourists.

Already 80 % of Tourists coming to Srilanka spend their time in the South.

This 80 % will grow five times in the next 10 years with the Chinese, as the Aussies have predicted.

Srilanka is closer, better and cheaper for the Chinese and has special bond because of Buddhism.

I don’t want to call you guys idiots because you think you belong to the party of the Elite and the Intelligentsia.

So Go ahead and store paddy in Mattala Airport. But make sure at least it is Muthu Samba.

Sira’s brother will be thankful to you for getting him a decent Warehouse in the South with full Air conditioning ,

Junior Sira even can take the family there for an overnight stay on the weekends and pay respects at our Dutugemunu Viharaya in Tissa Maharamaya.

      KASmaalam K.A Sumanasekera

“The Government is desperate to capitalize on Tourism to push the country towards growth by getting the Chinese Middle class to visit.”

However 20% of the tourists hitting this island is from India, numbering 274,000 in 2014. Till May this year the number of Indian tourists who visited this island amounted to 130,000.

Watch out all Chinese are not genuine tourists, some come here to beg, prostitute, run organised crime syndicates.

Some of those Indian tourists come to join the Ramayana bogus trail, some come to experience the oldest profession, some come to gable, some come to check their Sinhala state of India, some come to visit their descendants in the south ….

      What is your point?

      • 10
        1

The Indian tourists also Spend the Minimum Amount of Sri Lankan Rupees possible. Ask any Tour Bus Operator.

They pay an all inclusive Bed and Breakfast Package deal to an Indian Travel Agent, and then Pack their bags with Lunch and Dinner from the lavish Breakfast Buffet, that the Sri Lankan Hotels provide!

Vedda Thank you for the good advice. I hunt and gather my food like you do, not spend lavishly, as you seem to imply!

My point is that the number of Indian Tourist does not reflect the amount of Tourism Dollars that are expected.

    • 8
      0

Neither the Chinese nor the Indians spend any notable amounts besides the bare minimum. Most down south hotels are engaged in a cutthroat price-cutting race to stay competitive- a result of the previous government marketing mainly to these beggars, high costs via a failing economy, and the lack of any sort of feasibility studies before people go and build hotels in an already oversaturated region. Cinnamon Bay Beruwala is a prime example of a hotel that, unless things are turned around soon, will have to close. Most hotels along the coast now have to resort to accepting massive staff outings and weddings to stay afloat.

Keep believing the “statistics” fed like punnakku to you lot. I really wish you’d stick to things you’re good at, like racism and just being the general scum of the earth instead of blabbering blindly about doctored statistics.

Thanks for this information. I sincerely hope that the new minister for tourism John Amaratunga has read this.

Did I not read that some major retail chains in SL now accept Chinese Union Pay cards?

My humble opinion is that while waiting for the Chinese and other tourists Mattala or parts of it can be used as a warehouse.

What ever happened to the plans of creating an off shore enclave in Mattala? I even thought about making money from it.

Namal Rajapakse has a friend who knows English and wrote the article.

Other than that, How many decades we have to wait in order to Mattala becoming a busy AIR PORT. By that time. even China might become a not a well-to-do country just way Japan is now. Namal’s Dad just acted like the Bull in the China shop.

My central Bank, my money, and I am almighty boss, who cares, it is my way. So, Mattala will be profitable one day, in how many decades, who knows ?

It was an airport constructed without any feasibility study and planning and became a white elephant costing tax payers money.

I give you some information which I have copied from
    http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapacific/sri-lanka-ex-president-s/2095474.html
    Start of quote
Built on a migratory route for birds, the airport soon proved notorious for plane-bird collisions after opening in 2013. The first flight to land shattered its windshield after being struck.

National carrier Sri Lankan Airlines was under orders from Rajapakse to land at the US$210 million hub. But it halted flights immediately after Rajapakse lost January’s presidential election to Maithripala Sirisena.

Rajapakse spent lavishly on infrastructure, with huge vanity projects including a deep sea port, six-lane highways, an international conference centre, a cricket stadium and a dry-zone botanical garden.

The projects were criticised for ignoring feasibility studies and environmental warnings.
    End of quote

So before you find fault on others look at your side. The first step for self progress is to accept your own mistakes. Passing blame on others for their own mistakes is major setback to ones self-improvement.

If you really care for yourself the first step is to accept your mistake. It is only after this you can think of remedying your faults.

    Namal,

This must be heartbreaking, no? All of daddies dreams of a paradise down south after building an airport and a harbour and inviting the world to come visit.
So much of wild life was disturbed and displaced (or eaten by those hungry Chinese workers who loved their stir-fries every day), for what?

So what to do, now they will store rice, next will be punnakku, batala and god knows what else. But Namal, you are young and there are enough cuckoos remaining to make sure that you will come back to power. Then you will show them, ah. Build a race track (for the cars) and a race course (for the horses) and a rugby stadium too.

Till then here is something that goes through my head every time I see you
(with thanks to Clifford T Ward)

    What did we do wrong?
We had all the magic to put us on our way
And all the tragedy that we ever wanna see
    But you know I’m right
When I say the best is yet to come.

Podiyan Namal, You always think you are in POWER. Please understand, even if you are the President of the country, you remain the HIGHEST PAID SERVANT to the people of Sri Lanka.

When you have lost that thought from your head, you will always lose your honour, dignity and respect. How so truly evident it is now, isn’t it?

First of all, you become a lawyer on your own wits and intellect and then you think of serving the people of your electorate.

For your Information, Air Arabia refused to fly to Mattapan, even after subsidizing their costs. Why?

It is clearly UNVIABLE for any airline to waste extra fuel to satisfy your and family’s egoistic demands.

YOU ARE STILL A PODIYAN. A BACHCHA as they say in India. Call your friend Salman and learn the meaning.

“However, the facility failed to attract international air traffic mainly due to its isolated location, more than 200 km’s from the capital, Colombo.”

This is not the only reason.

I remember reading a previous comment by a Sri Lankan Pilot, that the runway was not suitable for Passenger Aircraft.

The Airport was also meant as a convenience for Tourists visiting the Yala National Park.

Unfortunately the Animals and Birds have been driven away by the noise of Compulsory landing of Planes, taking Workers to the Middle East.

    • 9
      0

Yep, huge crosswinds make landings and take-offs difficult. Most runways are built upwind/downwind, but either this is not the case at Mattala, or the wind patterns change a lot in that region. There’s also the problem of birds getting sucked into engines and whatnot, since this is in the middle of a bird sanctuary, which, by the way, none of the recently awoken anti-Badurdeen/anti-wilpattu crowd said anything about.

  • 12

    Namal

You should have economic sense. Economy is based on demand and supply. It is not run to satisfy somebodies ego, like what happened to Mattala Airport. Totally wrong economic sense prevailed, because money did not come from your father’s pocket came from the treasury which is nobodies bodies property and relatively a bottomless well.

But however there is nothing called a ‘free lunch’, somebodies has to pay for the loses. It is the tax payer who have to cough out and the birds have to die for your father to have a white elephant only to display his name in huge decorated style.

Lets for argument sake, why don’t you run the airport from your personal funds and face fair competition without compelling flights against their wishes to land and take off at Mattala, and see for yourself what conclusion you will come to, and you will arrive at the same conclusion as the present Government. This white elephant should be dismantled as a matter of urgency. No point thinking so much money was sent down the drain, nothing can be done to resurrect it and waiting for a miracle will only cost more money.

Take my advise, you are a spoilt child and everybody knows you, nobody has a good opinion about you, and it is best in your interests you change your identity and start a new life (best in another country).

Thank you bloody stars they just converted it into a paddy storage depot. They could have done worse by converting it into a massive lavatorial sewerage receptacle for the entire southern region and called it the Mahinda JaraaPakse Jyatyantara Kakkoosiya. Even then, your Appachi will still be proud because all this corrupt man wants is SOMETHING bearing his name, even a National Lavatory.

Namal the mutt, at least think positively the farmers in Tissa &lunugamwehera will be happy that their paddy is purchased and stored in a place that would go to ruination in a couple of years. At least people will have more money in their hands if paddy is purchased.you fool must understand it is only a temperory measure. You don’t have grey matter in your head even to think. The Government has better plans for it as PM said in a couple of years. They think interligently

Ranil Wickremasinhe is the one made this decision to store paddy in the mattala airport ware house complex.
He is a pea brained idiot who has no vision nor mission except wallow in ill gotten glory and has not produced anything of any worth atleast not even an offspring.
It was during his tenure as PM from 2002 that the Paddy marketing board was dissolved and all the paddy stores were distributed cheaply among his friends.
Now only he has realised that paddy needs to be stored!Lucky for him MR has built an airport!
This idiot can’t understand that airports and ports can not develop business immadiately after coming in to operation. They take time as air lines and shipping companies plan their buninesses years ahead and you have to compete with present players and hang on until you succeed. And that is hard work too,not easy as storing paddy.

You should stop writing to CT. The readers are very smart, you know. Not like you. You get more and more unpopular with every thing you write or say. You have been the butt end of so many insulting comments. You were supposed to become the Crown Prince of what was to become the Kingdom of Sri Lanka on 9th January 2015. Even that didn’t materialize. Otherwise our country would have been the most advanced Kingdom of the Apes.

Your appachi tried everything he could to give you some brain. But having not progressed beyond the stage of being a “Macaca Fascicularis” he himself did not have a human brain. If Darwin was living he would have been disappointed.

If you are a lowyar you should know the “Nemo Dat Quod Non Habet” Rule. The Romans said that, in Latin, long ago. Of course GL would have told you. He is an expert in these things. It means “One cannot give what one does not have”.

So it will be a sin to blame appachi. Dont blame him.

Mr. NAMAL Rajapakse- pls provide the figures. How many passengers used the airport three last 3 yrs. How many planes landed there daily (except Sri Lankan and Mihin who were forced to land at tremendous cost ). How much loss Sri Lankan and Mihin incurred just landing there (without passenger drop off or boarding)- the biggest fuel cost is on landing and take off. Every Sri Lankan Male’ flight had to bear this unnecessary extra fuel cost

  • 5

    Dear Namal,

Nothing is revengeful here. There no planes or the imaginary ones that you dream of flying or even the space shuttles you little brother intends send in to space taking off or landing here. One flights are those of the birds.

Whoever, who sold this great Idea to your father and his government is clearly having the last laugh. Who in their right mind would build an airport in the middle of a nature reverse, that too smack bang in the middle of bird migration paths. Which the birds have been doing long before you or your ancestors were born.

Secondly you talk about development, you seemed to have not tasted the effects of economic recession of 2007-09 since then countries are more wiser, austerity. In this day and age, governments, business invest to expect results in less than a year. How many years has passed since this great investment of yours was built. Whats the Profit and Loss and balance sheet looking like. Is there an upward trend in the number of flights and income generated by the airport? If I may answer, the value is less than USD 15K for the whole of last year. When the outflows have been in the millions. Economic sense and justification will prevail.

Hence it would be better that the airport at least put its name as probably the worlds most expensive warehouse. At least we as a nation might have enough food stocks, to ensure there is no famine, after your family and band of robbers, have looted us dry.

Hence think before you issue such idiotic statements.

I think the government should put the chinese in charge of what to do with the white elephants in hambantota such as the port, airport and stadium. It should be made clear to them that only with the revenue generated by these the loans can be paid back.If the chinese can’t get the revenue out of them then we can transfer the white elephants from our balance sheet to the chinese balance sheet as unpaid loans.

lenders also have to take care when giving loans by seeing that proper feasibility studies are done by the borrower.Nobody can compel a borrower to pay back loans if he or she does not have adequate income to pay it back.Generally a borrower will take over an asset is it is mortgaged to them,in this case we have not mortgaged srilanka to the chinese. The white elephants are a china problem, not ours.Let them solve the problem for us without us going and having it on our lap.

I can still remember those carefree days when we would shriek and pass the cushion quickly when the music stops.I can’t wait to die to again start playing those games again.

Namal, the bluffing days are now over and I suggest you educate yourself a bit before you open your corrupt mouth on financial issues. We all know how these projects were developed to fatten your family purses. You lack vision and first come straight with the public on how you got your law degree. You are what you are today not because of achievement or skills but purely because your corrupt father rode rough shod over the gutless scoundrels who worshipped his smelly feet. If you have an iota of self respect you should retire from politics and spend your time seeing how the stolen funds can be protected. or form a new party called the rogues club.
