The guy is becoming popular. Most probably the govt jammed the audio at the source. So there wont be good copies unless a reporter gets the transcripts and posts it.

I doubt the government would do anything to Sumanthiran. He is simply too popular across all ages, ethnic backgrounds and religions. This great statesman is the best of all of Sri Lanka and represents what Sri Lanka could be. At a minimum, you are looking at a future Nobel Peace Prize winner here if someone nominates him. There is even a chance that he could be president if the current regime would release its stranglehold on power. I think Sumanthiran represents the rule of law and democracy. Not only, but he talks of restoring trust and being fair. A statesman like this only comes around every couple of generations.

Whether audible or not, Sumanthiran would a have a valuable contribution for what he is. He is an example of a ‘patriotic’ of the nation and the people. There should be Sumintharans emerging among the Sinhalese and the Muslims too so that the country will have a better future.

The speech is quite audible now. Sumanthiran has made an excellent case that GENOCIDE was and is being committed today in Sri Lanka.
The so called International Community is blind to this fact.

i agree a very good speech but speeches alone do not make statesmen.WHY OH WHY cannot you bring together the tamil parties for the northern pc election.this type of disunity is the curse of our land.i read in the mirror today that you have been asked to draw up a mou by jan. what use will that be when the election is supposed to be in sept.i do not understand jaffna politics but mark my words because of your disunity devananda will quietly creep through to be the chief minister and then you will begin to blame everyone but your pitiful selves.still it is not too late for the sake of yourselves and us the people of the south for gods sake unite.then we will have some hope for our motherland.

Dont blame anybody. The Tamil parties must field ONE candidate only. For the sake of the Tamils please be united and do not for God’s sake cause disunity by fielding many candidates.

excellent and relevant speech. But Mr S forgot to mention the Jewish nation, in whose regard the term genocide was perhaps first used in modern politics. And that particular ‘genocide’ is the cause of much of the world’s problems today. Let us hope that the GOSL will seriously consider the implications for this country and redress the ‘wrongs’.

I would nominate Mr. Sumanthiran and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and Mr. Eran Wickramaratne of the United National Party as the President of Sri Lanka.

This is a brilliant combination……. Eran and Sumanthiran.
Sri Lanka will be a Superpower in 10 years with this winning combination. Wow!

A great politician, worthy of being listened to, and who brings truth, and criticism, to our Parliament; something others should be doing too, as representatives of the Sri Lankan people. Gone are the days, when
criticism and debate were the norm, and great speakers were given the respect deserved. Today we have a bunch of wimps, afraid to speak out, and only interested in lining their pockets. They only give the people some attention when elections are around the corner.
Mr. Sumanthiran, a lone voice for the people.

Rajapakse government is not scared of people who speak to divide the country or spread fear among the sinhalese, but make them poop in their pants when they hear someone like Sumanthiran speak of liberty and rights of the people of the country tamils, sinhalese, muslims and others.

    (1) The right to life for the Tamil people is denied. (2) Ancestral land of thousands of families who have lived in the North are being grossly and illegally grabbed as part of a genocidal program to deny Tamils of their homes – charges a very articulate lawyer in the very
floor of the House. Anywhere else, the Govt would have collapsed or
responded reasonably to the charges. But here – it is the law of the
jungle. The democratic process was killed years ago.
