Take A Leaf From The American Playbook: Indict The Rajapaksas: Accountability, Accountability & Accountability

By Vishwamithra

“We cannot be mere consumers of good governance, we must be participants; we must be co-creators.” ~ Rohini Nilekani

Forty one (41) pages; thirty seven criminal charges and one other conspirator, three basic elements of the indictment the Federal Grand Jury issued to Donald Trump, former President of the United States of America (USA). One time Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the USA; rightfully elected former President and the current front-runner of the Republican Party for nomination for Presidential Elections scheduled for November 3, 2024. A country of laws instead of mere men and women, America can hold her head high; her Constitution and its fundamental components intact not only in written words but also in action.

There are more ways than one the indictment of Trump could be viewed. Firstly, it could be interpreted as a sad day for the country and her people, for their Commander-in-Chief is under federal criminal indictment is no trivial matter. Whichever way Trump is trying to make it a joke, it won’t hold any water. Especially when some charges have been made under the Espionage Act, retention of ‘top secret’ or ‘classified’ documents pertaining to national security becomes a serious charge and if proven on the side of the prosecution, finding guilty as charged may not all that be out of the question.

Nevertheless, Donald Trump aside, as we are not discussing the pros and cons of the case that is now before the Florida jurisdiction in the USA. What is cause for celebration is not the indictment of one of the worst leaders that the world had to live with as he was rightfully elected in terms of the electoral collage system America. Americans and the rest of the world were condemned to witness the Trump Presidency in the last decade, but the fact that holding him accountable before the law is a matter for celebration. Donald Trump remains twice impeached and to date twice indicted. His past business dealings are still being talked about as immoral and unethical; before he became President, despite his numerous failings, he was not indicted nor found guilty by a court of law in America. The cruelest irony that visited him in the most bizarre fashion is that he had to become President of the USA to be indicted before a federal court and the indictment is directly related to the way, shape and form in which he (mis)governed his country.

The substance of governance, core elements of corruption, unforgivable extent of nepotism and glaring incompetence in the overall management of state affairs have all unclothed a system of governance which the people at large would not put up with in the short-run. In a democracy, where the leaders of government are elected periodically, voters hardly wait for the next election to oust the incumbent. In addition to the idiosyncratic conduct of the leaders, the other most important factor that goes into the very nucleus of the decision making process of the people is the prevailing economic condition. Most of the Presidents, Prime Ministers and other members of the Cabinet of Ministers invariably get thrown out. The voter’s vengeance is beyond control and could be ruthless.

This sociopolitical progress has been proven very persistent in every democracy where elections are the only manner in which government leaders are elected and rejected, whichever the case may be. But what sustains the longevity of a state without a calamitous collapse of society in question is the sustainability of institutional arrangements provided for by each country’s constitution and a strong and unwavering judiciary. In fact, of all three pillars of government, the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary, the Judiciary becomes the most pivotal and decisive pillar in that whether the Executive of the Legislature goes astray, such deviation and desecration committed by either the Executive or the Legislature could be checked and balanced in favor of justice and fair-play by a strong and intrinsically robust Judiciary. Yet if and when the people’s trust and confidence in the status quo is fractured and found to be demanding alternate measures, the stoicism, wisdom and psychological stature of the leaders come to assume a unique and unquestionable character.

The institutional infrastructure and quality of leadership in the two countries we are discussing here are really not comparable. Yet a fundamental similarity is present. That similarity resides in the crisis in Sri Lanka and near-crisis state in America. Whereas in America, the institutional infrastructure is so powerful and built to withstand any and all conceivable dangers, Sri Lanka is decades, if not centuries, behind a powerful and rich economy like the United States of America.

Donald trump lasted one term- just four years- but is threatening to repeat his remarkable election in 2016. By entering into politics via the Republican Party, Trump has single-handedly manged to drive the it to the right-wing fringes. The dog-whistles he used in order to get elected by hurling every insult possible in respect of the grave immigration issue, concocting a slogan such as ‘make America great again’, he appealed to the base instincts of White America. Promising to build a  wall along the southern border, getting Mexico to pay for it and mishandling of classified documents bordering on treasonous demeanor for a leader of a country, Trump succeeded in condemning the Republican Party and its traditional and well respected conservative leadership into ignominy. Whether the Party would renominate him for President and whether they would elect him again as President is a another issue. After refusing to accept the results of elections, He attempted to cause irreparable damage to America’s democratic institutions by galvanizing his own cohorts to an uprising on January 6, 2021; his efforts were thwarted and the American political and social infrastructure endured that bizarre and despicable attempts.

Therein lies the difference. Sri Lanka simply does not have within itself such strong and steadfast social and political infrastructure that could sustain her democratic ways of life and governance. Furthermore, America is armed with the necessary constitutional infrastructure to withstand a maddeningly corrosive inroad caused by a fellow like Trump. He was not only impeached twice; he was indicted twice too. To criminally indict an former President in a federal court is unthinkable in the Third World. But it did happen in America. Trump being indicted twice speaks volumes for her accountability when confronted by unprecedented events such as Trump’s meddling with classified documents and his propensities to engineer riots and insurrections that fundamentally challenge the very foundation of the American Constitution- democracy.

When the Rajapaksas were defeated in 2015, the basic pledge that the then Opposition placed before the people was accountability of the Rajapaksas in respect of the plausibly provable allegations of corruption. They ruled for four years from 2015 to 2019; the Rajapaksas became more powerful than ever so much so that a younger brother, Gotabaya Rajapaksa became President by a very decisive margin at the elections.

President’s powers were enhanced by way of the infamous Twentieth Amendment. Gotabaya became a virtual dictator and instead of ruling a country through democratic means, he began governing the country by way of decrees. Every possible bad decision and every possible imprudent policy was introduced and executed. Corruption in the government machinery became much more entrenched and any avenue outside the Rajapaksa family-system was blocked, closed and prohibited.

Today the Rajapaksas are technically not in power; but for all purposes and reality, they still control the government’s switches. Why? Because there is no accountability. Accountability should not be demanded as a matter of extracting revenge. On the contrary, accountability is the most fundamental mechanism available for the average citizen in any civilization.

The birth and short-lived Aragalaya in 2022 was a direct reaction and response to that breakdown in our civil system. One might argue that it was a protest against the unbearable hardships caused by the economic collapse; the economic collapse certainly accelerated the process but lack of accountability on the part of our rulers was the central cause. How can we right that wrong status? How can we be more comfortable in the enterprise of day-to-day living?

We have the legal and constitutional infrastructure to deal with such exigencies but the will on the part of our leaders is scarce and almost absent.

Those who pledge a total reversal of the journey that Ceylon as a country and one people trod in the past seventy five years may rise to top of the election ladder. And if that is not likely to happen, all patriotic people must make it sure that it does happen. Temporary and superficial band-aid solutions such as IMF relief and availability of petrol, diesel and cooking gas is not going to be of any lasting measure.

Once again, the purpose of prosecution of the Rajapaksas and his political cohorts  should not be treated as extracting revenge. If our leaders are to establish any modicum of transparency in governance, if they are to be trusted and taken into confidence by the people, it is incumbent upon all our current rulers to show that that they are credible and trustworthy. The moment the people lose their faith and trust in their leaders, anarchy and all other accompanying repercussions would follow and collective mayhem and chaos would be the ugly result.

It is rather difficult to rebuild that element of trust in our leaders once it is lost. But a genuine and sincere effort will always be welcome, it is a prerequisite in order to set a fresh beginning and it is still not too late. If our leaders are committed to doing the right thing there are only three goal-posts that they need to pursue: Accountability, Accountability, Accountability.

Really? Since when has any Rajapaksa proposed to sell Srilankan? Or Ceypetco, CEB, and SLT, all parking places for their supporters?

Some nurture a romantic image of the Rajapaksas as being successors to the SWRDB-Sirimavo legacy of anti-imperialism. CBK tried the rhetoric before she contested the election in 1994 but slipped out of it pretty fast.
The imagined ‘bond’ with China was circumstantial, with no ideological link. US pressure since 2009 pushed MR towards China for support.
China does not care two hoots about anybody’s ideology as long as business is trouble free.

Don’t be a coolie to 2nd, 3rd 4th level Rowdy’s servants. So, what push CBK to make the $ 250M deal for Nuraichcholai with China?

Could you show some paperwork of CBK and put forward arguments to show that her project was justified? Why did she fo there when thousand and thousand companies can put up heavy machinates that can last for 50 years. I was invoked in selling machine part for Junious’ Accelerated Mahavali project, the government Enginers won’t approve one sing mecnhimes that was not made in US, GB, Germany, Japan and Sweden. Then where did all those Enginers went when China Nuracilai stopped working on the third months of fresh installation? Don’t go below that to explain then why did Old Rowdy cancelled that project? Come, then why did he re-issued the project for China for $450M.

The old Rowdy bastard’s 50 computers were hacked by China for threatening to hand over non functioning Nuraichcholai machines repairs to India. The Bastard immediately agreed for Colombo Pong Ching sales. China told, in revenge of it India must get out of Sampur Electricity plant. Evil won the parliament election saying that he would retake Pong Ching. Then he ended Then the Evil Ended up donating Hangbangtota port and 5 Villages free land. If you like you draw your own map to lick them. All knows how China captured Langkang assets.

Trying to hide one more time in the saree Munthnai? What to do!

Thieves hide behind the passers by saying the house owner’s dog is biting them while they were just walking on the road. Poor and painful story! But many passers by have seen the dog only chasing thieves walking into the house, so they are not concerned about the chasing dog but concerned about their Munthanai which the thieves are trying to hide under.

        1) It is USELESS as you suggest for Sri Lanka to “Take A Leaf” from any “Playbook” when we have a corrupt BASL (Bar Association of Sri Lanka) and CA Sri Lanka (Institute of Chartered Accountants). I state this with responsibility. Wrongdoers in politics, private sector and others have a FIELD day in this context. For want of space I will briefly give two egregious examples.
        .

        2) It is deplorable that the BASL is REFUSING to hold to account an attorney-at-law who has ‘Certified and Attested’ a shockingly FRAUDULENT ‘Power of Attorney’.
        .

        3) CONFLICT OF INTEREST which is a major cause of CORRUPTION is ingrained in the psyche of most Sri Lankans. An example is the Managing Partner of an audit firm being the Chairman of a state bank. He is a Past President of CA Sri Lanka. Another example is a ‘Partner’ of an AUDIT firm being the Vice Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. No one questions how an auditor could be INDEPENDENT when coalescing with business chambers.
        .

        4) Those concerned in BASL and CA Sri Lanka know if they PRISE OPEN one unlawful case, it will lead to a tsunami of exposés.
        .

          5) You are going over the top by raving “America can hold her head high; her Constitution and its fundamental components intact not only in written words but also in action.”
          .

          6) This is far from ground reality. It is evident that the US is demonstrating two sets of laws – one for Trump and another for the cognitively impaired and doddering Biden and his wayward son Hunter Biden. This is clear to any OBJECTIVE observer. Not for a moment am I saying that Trump is exemplary or faultless.
          .

          7) Almost all the mainstream US media together with the US Department of Justice and FBI are covering up BIG time for Biden. For example, why is the federal indictment of Trump on classified documents SILENT on the ‘Presidential Records Act’? Why is there SILENCE on Biden taking classified documents when he was NOT President? These are examples of two sets of laws in the US.

Aha, AM in his lair in Colombo has discovered the PRA in the U.S.; lo and behold, Trump is exonerated!

The problem is not the media or the DoJ or the FBI, but with morons like AM who can’t understand the PRA or the vast differences between what Trump did with the documents vs. what Biden or others did. I am not surprised there are plenty of idiots in SL who are listening to and regurgitating the moronic arguments put forward by the Trump-loving media in the US.

Your inability to grasp any of the fundamental principles employed in any procedure followed, is eloquently present in every word you utter here. A man or woman taken to court and asked to witness under oath of a perceived crime one committed only if one is caught with material evidence. Crime is one, committing crime in court is another one. But Western law insists that the same level of crime be punished at the same level. In Langkang, as in the Sinhala folk story, a lean Tamil man is thrown to an elephant to tear in order to save a fat Sinhala Buddhist Politician from his crime. About five Tamils were white vanned & shot and their vehicles were stolen and burned by rowdy Hitler King’s gang in order to put their murder of Lasantha on unknown LTTE activists. We don’t have to waste time to create a dent in the way justice is implemented in the present world, to minimize the appearance of the crimes taking place in Langkang courts and police stations. (Ranjan Ramanayake is still under grip for once he tried to expose the Langkang courts jugglery. But the CJ, Buffoon De Silva who declared he falsified Old Rowdy King’s robberies is still free). Few days ago, a Tamil home aid was tortured and murdered in the police station, in front of witnesses.

                  3

These style crimes by the Sinhala Only Justice system are quite normal or rather everyday events. But life goes on for suffering Tamils. If you have watched nature movies, you can understand how life goes for people, if justice is denied in whatever world they live in. In those movies suddenly a violent lion or lions would appear from nowhere and chase all the peacefully grazing animals. They all would run in all directions in chaos, to save all their life. But one of them would be caught and it would cry death cries. Stopped by the painful sound, all others would stop running and turn and watch. Their eyes show that they were in pain by not knowing a way to save their loved one. But soon the animal’s cry will be silenced. Lions would move away with their cruel murder behind. The hungry animals start to graze back wherever they stop their stampede. In the West they give a chance to perpetrators to tell the truth and seek an acceptance in society back again. The West believes in the fairness and effectiveness of their justice system, so the criminal is allowed to say his/her version in the court as per his/her conscience. The worthiness of this procedure is very difficult to understand for Langkang chaffs. They only follow Kasiappa, Pilimatalawwe systems.

                  3

As you are a SLFP-Slap Party- EPDP acquainted person, the justice delivered world over appears to be at the same level of Langkang, fake. It is not your fault alone. That is the exact reason, when in the current sitting (53) of UNHRC, when Langkang rep proposed a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the whole Tamil world unitedly opposed it. In the matter you know the truth, you are trying to oppose and by the same way on matters Tamils know better (for 75 years) than you, Tamils are opposing the procedure. The difference is you are standardizing the world with the truth you found out from SLFP-SLPP-EPDP. But Tamils go the opposite way; they insist that the more refined world justice system be used to deliver justice for them, but not the Langkang. It is only clownish that you cry that “Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth” is still employed in courts.

                • 11
                  3

By showing your clownish attitude you are attempting to create a dent in the justice system employed world over but substantiate the Sinhala Jury Only system which uses double standard, one allowing the Sinhala Buddhist political elites to lie in the court and walk out while torture, rape and murder the weak Tamils inside the police station, in the 4th floor…… in the name extracting truth under PTA, CTA ATA, Emergency declaration like draconian acts. In your cruel-level heart, it appears the woman’s death in the police station is nothing but a plea deal to Hunter is injustice to the world and the world has darkened by that action. No one should be punished less because of his father’s status and the same way no one should be punished more because his father is a president. Father can be demanded to be more open to the public but not the son. On a day so many muggers in NYC subway get away even after the police arrest them. Then why not Hunter? It is difficult to comprehend for you because the culture you are part creating and enjoying, where a president’s son plants a 900 sovereign gold ring on his pet dick, publishes the photo proudly while Langkang’s average was falling on the feet of the world over for a meal. You cannot lower yourself to the truth.

                • 11
                  3

There are many methods used in the Western world to have the truth depart in a humanistic way from the perceived. Then there the Langkang methods of torture, rape, killing to force innocents to become the sacrificial goats to save the Sinhala Buddhist government and Kandy Bald head bosses. Your conclusion is that Langkang methods are more modern to the one used in advanced democracies where ‘Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth’ are still in use. You sound like you never read the Kannagi story or read but couldn’t understand the fundamental lesson in that. Anyone can tell a lie and anybody commits a mistake depending on that, but human civilization is growing, studying the lessons from those epics, and all over the world deliverance of justice is also growing.
What I am trying to say is some people have hope on the doggy mischievous talks and when they see they are failing, they put up dramas that it was because they like the humor so much. Absolute fraud (lie) in each word.

When Yahapalanaya was jointly ushered in by by Ranil and Sirisena, in January 2015, they said that the Rajapaksas would be held responsible for all their thieving, robbery, and Human Rights Violations.
      .
Now, Ranil is silent about all that. Many of us have already been complaining in these now current articles, that nothing of that is now happening:

That is by Professor Kumar David. This next, by Dr Ameer Ali, underlines the same point:

        Dear Readers,
        .
Sinhala man aka our diehard AKD supporter, as if he had then lived on mars, looks back on YAHAPALANYA issues TODAY: Good governance achieved lot more for people until Sirisena was brutally raped by Mahinda Rajaapkshe for their power grabbing tactics. Now looking back, that easter sunday disaster too should be an act of medamulana beasts. Even kids would turn wise, but SMs or the like would take ages to see things ratinally.

We perfectly knwo that Ranil had no executive power under POLONNARUWA DONKEY (2015-2019) who was later caught by medamulana rapists. That is fact.
        .
And the other fact is that srilankens are rapists/crime lovers than the good politicians,. Nothing but people’s stupidity created what we face today.
        .
No doubt, bond scam was intrumental to corner RANIL, but today, not even SINGOPORE govt is not interested in suing then SLCB governor Arjun mahendran.

How do even SM or the like so called SELF PROCLAIMED educated men twist the things in favour of a babarian force (JVP). This is the mentality we should kick off. THese are not at all consistent thoughts.

To me, SINHALA man or the like idiots are the real curse of this nation. My friends in SL(many of them are graduates) have spoken with a cross section of srilankens coming from all various walks last week and said, that people are not pro-JVP even if they are fond of some public stage presences of JVPrs. And they further said, it was the same JVP that lasted also earlier. People just enjoy their crowds, but when it goes to use the ballot, people dont vote for the murderers.
Only alternative would be a conglomeration of good young politicians representing various thoughts of our people. Our people are far from JVP one sided principles.

            Dear LM
            I agree with you 100%.
Let me add something to the above.
Remember it was Ven Sobitha who was the actual brain behind yahapalana concept.
We all know that the gode uneducated unrefined opportunistic dog like gon sira was just in the right place at the right time.
Unfortunately Ven Sobitha passed on and the shameless Sira began to show his true self.
How can a village idiot like Sira have any world-class ideas to run a country in the 21st century?
AKD and his bunch of underdogs will do the same truth be told.
We need to call a spade a spade and start looking onto future leaders for their capability, proficiency, qualities etc just as the Buddha taught us.
The Buddha said a person becomes an outcast by his actions, not his birth. Otherwords we should look at an individual’s qualities over every other attribute.
When people with true integrity and capability are empowered as leaders, automatically that society is gearing up for progress. But when a majority of the people chose to elect scum like the madamulana dogs, what do you expect?
The concept of Karma is very clear on this and it is applicable in every respect.
Karma is the result of our decisions and actions, it is as simple as that.

              LM,
whoever whatever being overestimated about AKD and his so called professionals, truth being said about them is they dont have sufficient experience. Lal kantha or the like are real thugs. No edcuation at all.
They could not prove their abilities in the sessions that they were given chances to do their best either.
              .
And another argument that blocks me is why on earth JVP candidates fail to improve the agronomic knowledge of the village farmers in this country even if they are said to be experts and coming from rural corners of the island ? statiscs prove that srilanken farmers are lack of proper knowledge about farming compared to the any others in comparable countries.

Dear Rational Thinkers and the representatives of PUNNAKU drinkers,

Panini@, if I may remind you, you weren’t that anti-RW at the time. And you haven’t said much against Mahinda Rajapakshe, who of all the worse politicians our motherland has ever produced is the most insulting man. In a civilized world, he or something like that would have been imprisoned forever.

Ranil may not be the best politician, but in today’s context there is no other living politician in Sri Lanka who could add salt to the Sri Lankan economy. . That’s a fact for sure.
                :
                AKD vs GOTA:

Tell us how the AKD would solve the problem with the PINGUTHTHARAYA community (stats show that monks living in temples are fake monks in SL) who betray and sabotage almost every good move towards progress in this country? Some experts see no difference in their reactions to those of UNDERWORLD activities in comparable countries.
                .
Furthermore, AKD is left speechless when we raise such a crucial issue in a future government he leads. However, it is crystal clear that if the JVP members were elected by our punnkku-drinker-dominated nation, things would either stagnate or worsen.

Yes, I have a growing and worryingly low opinion of our eligible voters since November 2019. They obviously don’t change for their own good. This makes me angry and unhappy because our nation’s youth deserve a brighter future.

Dear LM: You asked: “Tell us how AKD………….”

This same question was asked by Johnston Fernando in Parliament recently. He asked AKD across the Parliament lobby: ” If you (pointing at AKD who was speaking at the time) are the President how do you deal with all those corruptions”.

Then AKD pointed his finger at Mahinda Rajapakse and said: “If I have the power most of you seated in the front row would not be here but in prison”.

LM: Do you think any other MP would point his finger at Mahinda and say that? I was searching for that video clip (that appeared on youtube) but couldn’t find it. Perhaps S-M would help me. That is AKD and JVP/NPP.

Simon, dont you know that SEVERAL MPs of SJB did the same?

. How many times, Ranawaka, Harin, Fonseka, Harsha have attacked MaRa keeping the buggers in front of them. Those men from DA Rajapakshe genes are thick-skinned to the samilar manner your KADAMANDIYA people would behave. Dont you think so ?
Why shoudl you be feel that biased to AKD….. have you guys been given some “attractive pills to swallow”?
: To me, if I am very honest, JVPrs are not yet radical enough to beat Rajapakshes in public. As repeated somewhere else, TILVIN DE SILVA cant have the balls to call ” Mahinda” yet today, even if they all have guts to call ” Ranil as Ranil”: If you grasped it, then I could have thought, that you are unbiased.

Dear LM: You are far removed from the Parliamentary debates. All those named by you do criticize Mahinda, no doubt. But they are all SLAVES to him and haven’t got the back borne to point their fingers at the “Father of Corruption” and the “Mafia Boss”.

I am certainly not biased against anyone but only replied to a comment by you. In only one instance Ranil called his group and shouted: “Kauda Hora” and the group shouted “Mihinda Hora”. But where is he today? You know who has got the “PILL”.

AKD might have added it several times, but the even more attacks were thrown by SJB MPs. By fairness, I should make it clear here.
                      :
It is false statement to say that most of the names mentioned above from SJB were with Mahinda aka Blood sucker of the nation, earlier.

                      Harsha – No
                      Harin – Never
                      :
Please get your facts right – I have a greater respect on your comments, but if you make efforts to dilute and hype up the activities of JVPrs, there we can not be deaf and dumb.
                      .
JVPrs are not yet vocal enough standing against MAHINDA and his crimes.
They are not the only ones who filed cases against Mahinda and his administration.
There is nobody but Mahinda and his mlechcha politics ruined this nation. Media prostitutes are still held above, Derana Dilith Jayaweera and how he became untouchably rich can reveal how RAJAPAKSHE blackmoney worked. Also in that point in time, you the kind of educated srilankens also lived in the country. Our sinhala man or the like clan never uttered a single word against medamulana beast until lately.

Do you consider what Ranil W as the Executive President (in the shoes of MY3) doing today when he has all the power to do that denied development work? Of course, I know you will tell give him time till that miracle year targetted – 2048.

Even with the agreement with your 2048 miracle year, shouldn’t someone see what he (Ranil W) doing today to reach that miracle?. Do you know that from the end 0f 2022 up to the 1st quarter of 2023 (i.e. Jan-Apr. 2023) our National Debt has increased from US $ 84.70 billion to US 91.56 billion and INCREASE of US$ 6.85 billion? What happened to that BORROWED extra US $ 6.85 billion? These figures are OFFICIAL. Has Ranil as the Minister of Finance explained that to the country? Not so far. WHY? I first got to know what was going to happen today from this 27 minute video:
                .
                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHHwvI6kfUw
                .
The speaker there is a one time Colombo Municipal councillor whom I know well. I have taught both her husband and her son, as I have stated in a YouTube comment that you will be able to find because there are so few.
                .
My knowing them is no guarantee that we can take what she says (Sinhalese, 27 minutes) at face value. These are all politicians!
                .
She predicts that it will be unanimously passed. That seemed possible to me only because this Law would have no teeth. And that is being proved by what G.L. Peiris, Sumanthiran (in English), and Markkkar are saying. No way that MPs will vote for it.
                .
Please note that; because there are some commenters who are trying to say that I approve only what the NPP says. Their MPs have not spoken yet.
                .
This Parliament will never pass any worthwhile legislation. This is a waste of money. Dissolve Parliament, and spend that money on some Election. Best would be Parliamentary Elections, which can be done today, 21/06/2023.
                .
If not, conduct the Local Government Elections.
                .
I tell you that all this farce amounts to harassment by a Dictatorship.
                .
                P.S.
                .
Eran Wickremaratne has begun speaking in English at 2:20:00 minus 30 minutes. Recorded that way because it is live. Please re-calculate if you listen after proceedings are over.

              Dear Simon,
              .
You asked that elsewhere, sorry for the delay. Better later than never. I have to add my thoughts here to yours which you questioned somewhere else. I’m a global traveler and sometimes things get delayed, but that’s not my intention.
I add my thoughts from being in waiting lounges of airports or on airplanes these days. Whoever whatever being said about me, I am not anti-srilanken, but I DO say i have low opinion on our own people.

You know I agree with some of your points, however you don’t seem to know the level of gross crimes deliberately perpetrated by Mahinda Rajapakshe mlechcha politics in the last 15 years. I have not lived in that country for the last 3 decades and I will never get to go again, however I add some exceptionally high wastes of MaRa during his two administrations.

Even if the dogs are put on golden pillows, their customs do not change, so today I call them dogs. Is there a leader in this country who has done so much to exploit the naive mentality of the common people aimed at the benefit of the voters? If you have lived in the hell created by those dogs, don’t you and other educated people see this?

What did NOT MaRa and his sinister forces do to get votes?

Let me remind you of the days starting with free laptops offers to cherrypicked journos, free salaries to the artists (Filmstars such as Malani, Ravindra, Geetha Jackson Anthony and all the others beyond the ranks), perks to various men surrounded by various walks people (fans, viewers and anyone in order grab votes). I dont think all these funds came from DA Rajapakshe and from their family wealth (fake walawwa).

Even that Malinda Seneviratne with a MSc at Harvad became RAJAPAKSHE lackey…remember ?
Don’t you remember the days Sri Lankan Mugabe flew his local councilors on airplanes at tax payers expense? Premadasa too did sort of extra vaganza on the costs of the poor people, but Medamulana Meeharaka broke all records.

If one person spent 4000 euros, more than 300 of the kind of low lives should have wasted 12 000 00 euros (this was at that time, 1800 000 00 Rps = 180 million rps). All these occured with the knowledge of SINHALA MAN and YOU the kind of JVP supporters. :is not that so ?

This is just one of his numerous foreign entourages. How many times has the DOG (Mahinda Rajapakshe) done that at the expense of our poor people?

What was JVP doing in that occassions ? Slept all along ?.

If Pinguttaraya takes precedence, the stupid dominated race will not speak a single word, so the Pinguttaraya community has kept the wild imaginations alive.

Dogs like Ghanasaras or the like abusive monks were born because of the demand of such forces. Abhayaramaya was their STASI fort at the time, all various forces rounded them up. However, people too are blamed for their total ignorance and indifference culture. I dont think that our people would ever see it right. We now see how abusive Sinhala Man or the like has turned out to be.

And how they wasted a lot of money in Mihin Airways, the SRLANKEN airline during that time. Can anybody with some sanity compare the high wastes of MaRa with that of CBK and SIRISENA-RW govts ?

                  Dear Simon MahathMaya (Mr Simon),

I’m afraid you may know the surface of the damage, but the extent of the damage is not clear to you.
Otherwise, you do not raise the question that not only the Rajapaksa should be punished but also others. is not that so ?how can an elphant be comparable to an insect ?
                  .
There are commenters, salaried employees, hired men, intentional harm-minimizers that work yet to repair the level of harm being done by mlechcha Rajapakshes.there is a saying in sinhala vernacular, that pork is prepared keeping on the body of the pig (urage mas urage aenge thiyala kapanawa). Likewise, all these propaganda are yet being done abusing the funds of the people.
Even today the mainstream media in Sri Lanka is doing the same. Who is behind it but Mlechcha Rajapaksa and his minions?

In a civilized world, is that ever possible? As someone who has lived in Canada for a while, you probably know this. I was surprised when I read your question about this. That’s why I added a long comment about this.

Even my seven year old comments have got my name wrong. You may know why, but I’ve not been totally unsuccessful in my efforts to correct that. On-line guidance suggests that I may have to wait 90 days.
            .
I selected that particular video for two reasons. You’ll be able to see what I’ve added yesterday, by looking at the “Newest First” comments. Nobody else has been adding comments recently.
            .
Secondly, isn’t it interesting to see how correct MIA was in the comments that she made in 2015 about the Sirisena victory?

          SM,
My bitter dislike to Rajapakshes, and your long silence but not having expressed your dislike for such a long time is not the same.

I wondered why on earth you never criticised Rajaapakshes until lately.

That was not overlooked. MaRa is in now in late 70ties while you are in mid 70ties. You today as if you are born again, attack Ranil in public, but not attacked MaRa in the same degree so far why ?Your JVP crying babies also did not do enough in that regard, however, yet today, Tilni De Silva WOULD NOT call “Mahinda” ….. but continues as ” Mahinda Mahaththaya”…. is that not a greater difference ?
          .
Not just you, many other in your age group, if they criticised and stood against Rajapakshe MLECHCHA politics in this country, things would not have ended up that speechless as of today. That is why I am wondering why our people actively and passively supported their tyranny.

            .
How has this man been so successful in politics for so long? I think that it is because of his independence, common sense, and he speaks straight. And that is in spite of his private life being a muddle. But then that’s not our business.

              Dear SM,
              .
A politician’s personal life should not be our concern. What matters is whether the person acts in compliance or not. Punnaku drinkers dominated Sri Lanka care little for good politicians; even today they dont seem to be acting as if they learnt something. When would they change their mind ? it can take another few decades…… alas, this is good old srilanka.

Lankans should boycott Aruna Press run by Dilith Jayaweera.
              https://web.facebook.com/adaderana/videos/gotabaya-rajapaksa-attends-religious-observances-on-his-69th-birthday/1539666462805044/?_rdc=1&_rdr
              .
. They have now allowed the man, Gotabaya, who destroyed this nation to return to public appearences. This is fully sponsored by the Pingutharaya community which is no diffrent to UNDERWORLD IN TERMS OF DRUG TRAFFICKING.
This vicious cycle seems untroubled by ARGALAYA guidelines. When will our stupid people learn?
              .
. Look at how the Sri Lankan PRESS marginalized her because the middle-class beasts distorted the media for their political gains.

He is still held high in society as a president who was driven out of the country by the fighters.

In a civilized world, tendencies to imprison him grow. What is going on in our hell ?

      Vishwamithra

Sources close to IMF/Treasury told told Reuters World Bank is likely to approve $700 million in budgetary and welfare support for Sri Lanka shotly.

Do you know how this $700 is going to be shred among all crooks, armed forces, functionaries, ….. given that they get priority over desperate people?

Why are Ellawala Medhananda and armed forces obsessed with land, old buildings, forests, Vihares, money, ……? The way things are Ella and Sri Lankan armed forces would start claiming ownership of all Buddhist Vihares old and new situated in Tamilnadu belong to Sinhala/Buddhists.

Why does not Ella raise money to feed poor people in this island?

Surgeon General Shavendra Silva is seen among the Buddhist followers almost everyday of the week, month, of the year. It appears the country can still function without him being present at his desk. Why do we need Chief of Defence Staff or an army commander? Ranil should abolish the post.

        Native,
These monks want nothing less than to own all the land in the country, eventually.
What these parasites want most is to restore their feudal status as landlords. “Hamuduruwo” means “master”, after all.
Even in the case of the disputed temple, a monk is alleged to be offering illegally acquired land to tenant farmers.

          I agree.
Almost all land and other properties belonging to Buddhist Temples and Viares are literally owned by the Viharathipathies at the particular time. All land disputes with Monks are created by land grabbing Saffronistas and supported by armed forces, police, functionaries, crooks in the parliament and outside, …… . Do you believe those patriotic crooks such as Prince of Darkness Weerasekera, Uthaya, ……..,in the parliament know what they are talking about?

I suspect nimal has direct lines/links to Amit Shah and Dinesh.

The true nature of Ranil ……….. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKMgk57k1rI

JR writing a constitution just for the 12 years of his reign …… enabled every subsequent president to abuse power.

It was/is never about the people/country ……. but the privileges, unlimited power to abuse ……… of the rulers.

Now, Ranil writing laws just to protect his few months of power …… will affect the country for a long time ….. enabling future tyrants to trample peoples’ freedoms/rights.

Where are the people who fought against the abuses of the Rajapakes hiding, now?

The Vavurukannala Vihare is in total darkness as it is not be able to pay electricity bill amounting to Rs 1,540,118.42 (as of 19 June 2023).
        https://mawbima.lk/2023/06/20/vavurukannala-temples-electricity-bill-is-10-lakhs/

Vihares, Temples, Mosques, Churches, ….. should be maintained by people not by the state. Buddha’s teaching is supposed to enlighten people. The Viharathipathy is saddened by the fact that CEB has disconnected supply. We can understand.

However while this very old Vihare is engulfed in darkness the saffron Ellawala Medhananda is on a spending spree building Vihares. Does he realise through building Vihares alone is not sufficient for him to attain Nibbana. People should ask (spiritually force) him to go to villages and towns with his begging bowl in his hands and collect funds for the upkeep of all such Vihares.

During Sajith time as Buddhasasana Minister he closed down around 146 vihares due to resource crunch. I am not suggesting that Vihares should be closed down on the contrary the old ones should be kept open, and send the saffronistas including Mahanayakes to meet people and beg for funds and stop Army and Saffronistas building new ones.

The politicians are unable to feed the poor, Ella and his racist followers are on spending spree on brick and mortar.

        Can you enlighten the Saffronistas?

          NV,
          1. The Buddhist priests should follow Lord Buddha’s message and practice Buddhism, according to Buddha’s teaching. So, they should meditate under a Bodhi tree and be “enlightened” – and give up the modern conveniences such as electricity, air conditioning, ceiling fans, SUV’s etc.
With year round sunlight, why can’t they use solar power?

          2. Yes, there should be separation of church and state. Religion cannot be State’s business. Mao Zedong correctly said, religion is the “opium of the people”. Keep the priests, imams, poosaris, far away from State’s business.

          3. I am sure NPP/JVP will keep the Buddhist monks far far away from dabbling in politics and poking their fingers in Government business.

Forget it, NPP/JVP are happy to dabble in religious politics.
NPP/JVP also want to win elections at any cost.

There was not any kind of Buddhist prayer places in Buddha’s time. He was Hindu until his Sammathi. He did nothing but revived the Dravidian Hinduism which was hijacked and corrupted by the invaded North Indian Aryans around 1000 BCE. Extremely very few Hindu sculptures are turning out in Indus Valley Civilization though many other buildings are there. This made some Western archeologist to believe that Dravidian had no religion at all. Few terracotta Pasupathi seals were found in the ruins of that civilization. This was copied during Hunts time as Buddhas’ image. As a matter of fact, Pasupathi image is known up to that time but those who copied Pasupathi did not know how Buddha looked like. So, they imposed the Hunts’ time cloths on him. Pasupathi Seals showed metal shields, but Pasupathi wore only tiger or elephant leather. Before Asoka, there was no Buddhist building. He was the one started Viharas, not Buddha. Follow the link to see from which current Buddha’s statures evolved.

In Sri Lanka only if the Police and the Judiciary act according to the rules and laws of the land there will be any progress. Unfortunately, both these groups are inside the pockets of the politicians. The rules and laws applied by the Police and the Judiciary are biased. They are based on political connections, different punishments for different people for the same crime, and at times a leaner punishment is given if the person found guilty is politically connected. There should be an independent body with powers to prosecute Senior Police Officers and Judges whose decisions are independently reviewed after the decisions are made if found to have violated any rules or laws they should be brought before the Supreme Court and legal actions must be taken and their civic rights should be withdrawn. Only then this country will progress.

      This was coming long-time!!!
Fairly and squarely, lay blame on architects of 1st Republican Constitution, changed the CAS to SLAS and reinforced that, SLAS’ are SUBSERVIENT TO ELECTED REPREENTATIVES and Executive, which NORM raised its HEAD – ADVENT of APEY ANDUWA, in 1956!!!???
Thereafter, Self-respecting administrators, didn’t take decisions, AWAITED on SIDELINES, likened an Alsatian Hound, UNTIL, heard HMV’s (His Masters Voice)!!??
All, devoid of a Vertebrae CHEERED, welcomed, lighted FIREWORKS, made KIRIBATH enjoyed with fellow mates joyously, ARRIVAL of ERA of Enlightened D E M O ’CRACY!?
      BTW!!
When 1st Republic was declared, Anura B and MaRa, were being “APPRENTICED” as future leaders (Horagolla & Medamulana), mostly seen in same vehicle – CID Peugeot 404 – protecting the PM’s son in his adventures!!!??
So in 2005, MaRa, as then PM, rewrote the constitution of the country, advising Fellow MP’s that it was unnecessary to file “Declaration of Assets” and none followed CBK to file asset declaration!!!???
THE CANCER STARTED FORMALLY WITH 1ST REPUBLIC!!!???

In any country from time to time the constitution changes. However, it’s the Police and the Judiciary that follows and maintains the rule of law. Unfortunately, both these institutions have failed miserably. Take even the bribery and corruption cases filed against the Rajapaksa family by the former AG – the present Chief Justice, these cases are being withdrawn by the present AG. Either the present AG is a slave of Rajapaksas or the Chief Justice does not know his job and continues to sit as the CJ.. What a crap!.

What about accountability for the fact that LTTE used civilians as human shields and shot at those civilians trying to escape the clutches of the tiger? What about prosecuting the vast numbers of diaspora who provided funds for the LTTE terrorists? Since monetarily-supporting ISIL/Taliban is – correctly – prosecuted as financing terrorism, then you’d better believe all those diaspora dollars should be traced back and those supporters taken to courts.

Oh my, you are really a f-ck up. What is a Liger? A lion mating with a tiger? Are you the by-product of this mating? No wonder you are so f-ck-d. I thought the Chingkallams were a by-product of some lion mating with a distressed maiden in a jungle, somewhere in North East India and then their half-lion half-human offspring committing incest with each other producing some horrible rowdy babies, who were then deported to Illankai and these rowdy babies could find no wives and they had to go the Thamizh Pandian country to find some Thamizh harlots and the descendants of all these convoluted breeding, starting between an Indian lion, a distressed damsel, their incestuous half-lion half-human children, who in turn produced some rowdy babies, who got deported to Illankai and these desperate sex starved rowdies and Thamizh Pandian harlots were the original Chingkallams. This story itself is complicated, mind-blowing and unbelievable and now you are coming up with even another complicated mind-blowing fairy tale about your birth story of a lion and tiger mating somewhere in a zoo to produce a screw loose Liger like you.

I hit a nerve didnt i? listen you terrorist worshipping slime that gets off on the thought of children blowing themselves up after being harvested from a ‘tiger-cub’ farm – Lanka belongs to its three main races. Chola leftovers like you who did not want to accept a Lankan identity shouldnt be allowed to scream ‘separatism’ and chase everyone out of the North and East just so you can continue your caste-filled dystopia. The world knows about you and diaspora’s constant attempts to plunge Lanka to the depths just so you can rule the flat lands for a short time only to be kicked out by God’s very hand. When the British-Raj was here it was Tamilian soldiers of fortune who made sure other nations succumbed. It is only Karmically correct that while you have a home – i.e. Tamil Nadu – that is only federal and you will never see Tamilakam rise its ugly head again.

    Thanks VM
For enlightening article that sheds light on how a civilised country should operate with US as an example.
In Sri Lanka’s case however, there are few fundamental issues that are preventing our country from operating as it should.
    1. Unlike the American constitution, our constitution has not written to protect and empower the citizens.
    2. The justice system is still an extension of the colonial code that was written mainly to protect the colonial masters. It has been adopted to continue to serve the ruling class (who have been acting as neo-colonialists) since the so called independence.
    3. The military and the police too are continuing to operate in the same mode they operated under colonial rule. In other words they do not look upon citizens welfare and safety as their primary purpose, rather, they continue to protect the upper classes only.
    4. The divide and rule system introduced by the British is still in place, our leaders have continued to proliferate with even more vigor.
    5. Our people have also not bothered to change our mindset towards one another. We continue to operate as selfcentred individuals who don’t give a hoot about the next person.
In a nutshell we are running our country in a highly primitive mode, much like we are living in a jungle where survival of the fittest is the order of the day.

Please don’t forget that the dark skinned people were brought to USA as slaves, but one of them was able to become president a few years back.
Is this possible in Sri Lanka?
        Let us start from that…

“one of them was able to become president a few years back.”

Obama is half-White ……. was raised by Whites and had a very White upbringing. ……. The White half got him elected president – helped him to get over the line with the overwhelming support of the Blacks.

What chance would/did a near-pure Black have? Jesse Jackson?

“Is this possible in Sri Lanka?”

          Yes! ……. With a makeover.

Bandaranayakes were Tamils. Rajapakses were Muslims from Malaya.

This is not to race-bait ……. but to drag peoples’ noses through the bleeding bloody obvious …….. that’s not so obvious to a majority: the emotions and years of stultified bias/prejudice takes control of minds.

Leave race-baiting to Native ……. and his buddy Wimal …… who’s buying goods from Jaffna shops with Indian Rupees ……. under Ranil’s instructions. :)))

Ranil wants to give Tamils 13+ …….. while Tamils are burning!

So what else is new in Lanka? ……… Any sun-bronzed blue-eyed Lankan blondes …….. in Bandarawela? ……..That’ll be new!

Nimal, this is just to share my own experience of living and working in the U.S for almost two decades.Though a citizen, for personal reasons I decided to relocate to India where I got my free education. (after being denied in Lanka). To me, there was never a sign (hope) of any colored person becoming a President in the U.S. But that changed with the entry of Obama and now we have Kamala as VP and Vivek as Republican candidate. Now we see the same in U.K too. Other than West, countries like India, Singapore, Malaysia . . . . . many others have had minority elected to highest positions. So, I will “never say never” (except for Lanka) a Black/ Afro American or any other colored person getting elected . On a personal note, I’m greatful to my adopted country for providing (and my family) not just unlimited opportunities but freedom, rights, among many things, which were denied in my own mother land.

“Bandaranayakes were Tamils. Rajapakses were Muslims from Malaya.” Bandaranaikes. Bandaranayakes are another breed.
Yes, minorities do get into power even here. But they first have to become Sinhala Buddhists. If you check out the nameboards on what used to be Prince of Wales avenue, you will see that even the Mathini is now a Bandaranayaka. But wait, are there any real, genuine, mint, 100% Sinhala Buddhists? Is Champa the only one?

          HT,
The US is capable of change , in a positive way, internally. But, the blacks still are poorer than, say, Asians. And, once you are poor, you can only get poorer, like the black homeowners who can’t afford high municipal taxes. The system is biased against the weak. Perhaps the whites were wise in limiting Chinese immigration in the 19th century. If they didn’t, we might have had two Chinese super-powers by now.

You forgot the Latinos who are about as badly off as Blacks.
The Chinese immigrant of the 19th Century was pretty backward unlike the ones of the 20th Century and after.
The most successful immigrant community seems the Indians in the US and UK, with altogether different backgrounds.

OC, in general I agree with you. But this also raises the question ” how come other minorities including , Asians, Middle Easterners, East Europeans, Pacific . . . . . who arrived much later than the Blacks are not so poor or weak. I’m not discussing about skilled or professionals who migrated to the U.S . I have met many people with minimum education, unskilled with many other disadvantages, getting into to U.S ( by way of Lottery Visas and other means ) are much better off today. It’s not all about color.

Now you’re on sensitive ground. You could also ask why Sri Lankan minorities too are much better than the Sinhalese at many things, even without state support. Let’s say there are things that African-Americans are better at than the others, like sports, or music.

OC, Above was an observation and not a generalizing statement. Lankans should know the answer for “why minorities are better “??? Regardless motivation, commitment, values, hard work, goals . . . . . . are now considered essence of survival , not success anymore.

There are Tamils in Sri Lanka, who are not at all affected by any of the politics that goes around.
This issue is not not about having opportunities. It is about political power.
Douglas Devananda is always a Minister. Does he wield any power to influence a decision taken at cabinet level.

Other than the Evil Emperor’s Nariyah nature, discussing his other qualifications or disqualifications he may or may not possess can’t divulge any new path to the future of Langkang. If so, what magic (difference) his Nariyah nature can bring on the country’s political stability or economic development, which no leaders of the past 75 years could make any, but with no exception of any one of them, but they all drove it down? The Nariyah nature, in the past, did not strengthen him politically, but it helped him to pull the wool over the eyes of foreign diplomats and leaders over Tamils’ issues. So once before too, without properly being elected, but convincing the diplomats of India and America on reconciling with Tamils, he juggled with power by grace of India and America by regime change. I doubt the future appreciation of the exchange rate of his Nariyah currency, though there are still organizations like the IMF that have pledged to be fooled by him, in the worlds’ diplomatic deals. With both legs broken, Langkang can no longer walk alone, without the world’s support. But in the last 25 years the world’s need for Langkang has changed tremendously. Superpowers cannot be certain of their might in the Asian waters, unless they win over the Langkang land.

Mrs. Gandhi (Indra) had a need to separate British East Pakistan from British West Pakistan. That was not the world’s preferred form, from 1947 to 1970. But Mrs. Gandhi had it in her way. She expanded her relationship with Soviet Russia. India’s this massive maneuvering reduced the Langkang as only an unwanted fly in the kitchen, in South Asian affairs. World failed to notice that from Don Stephen to until Siri Ma O the British’s well-made, fine and refined country had started slipping into wallow in the communist swamps, the USSR and Mao’s China. The China relationship was created by Kanangra, the one who destroyed Tamils’ private education structure. He made a deal for rubber to rice instead American wheat, to better utilize the Estate workers’ toil to feed the Sinhala Buddhists with free rice. Siri Ma O initiated a different path; went to the moon for her share of rice, yet dedicatedly enriched the China – Lanka relationship with many other deals. Instead of developing an industrial base using the better relationship it had with the West at that time, it was going for pseudo communism. Mrs. Gandhi, by attaching it to NAM, attempted to change the course of Langkang by giving the Katcha Divu, unattached to any conditions. Later seeing that Thaanam was not creating better relationships with Ceylon, she switched to Thandam.

Gandhi worked with LTTE. Junius Richard took the matter to Britain, (Thatcher) and the USA (Regan). At that time, they both appear to think if they got into Ceylon, Mrs. Gandhi may seek help from the USSR. So, they both rejected Junius Richard’s plea. It was said Mrs. Gandhi wanted to split Ceylon and make it into two rivals, which can attract nobody’s interest. During Sonia’s time West warned India about China’s String of Pearl in Indian Ocean & Langkang, Pakistan & Bangladesh. They kept their hand out of Langkang but expected India to fully handle it. Sonia was a curse to India; she had her private dealing with China like Counterfeit Indian Rupees and other money laundering matters. So, she was in secret woo with China. She surrendered the Indian telecommunication system to Chinese company. That company was accused by the West as a spying for Chinese government, all over the world. If Sonia had managed the Chinese String Pearl harbors in an efficient manner, Superpowers may have rescued themselves a decade ago instead of being they to get shacked with Langkang. We would not be writing this comment today. But her immature political ability made the uncertainty that was building in the Indian ocean, in and around India and Langkang, grow in many folds.

By the meantime, in Langkang, Kadirgamar had campaigned extensively in the West calling for their support to deal with Tamils’ freedom fight. He penetrated 32 nations’ diplomatic walls and forcefully dragged them to Mullivaikkal. He had promised the hand of Lady Langkang the Dark Witch, after the war, in marriage with each of them. separately. Even Israel, Iran, India, Pakistan… all of them received the same promise and same assurance. So, by 2009-2010, all these nations were queuing at Colombo in line to claim their pounds. They all lined up, but the irony was they were not sure why they were lining up in Langkang or what they were looking for from Langkang. Other than China, the foreign policies of these nations were absolutely crazy and chaotic. India led on that bankruptcy policy on Langkang for decades after the departure of Mrs. Gandhi, Langkang media depicted Indian politicians in filthy, low morale cartoons and labelled them as them comedians in public stages. By that time, Old Rowdy had murdered Kadirgamar. After the war, the international behavior of policy-less-ness and Langkang’s Modaya policy remained as Jar and lid and kept pushing Langkang to the cliff with no return ticket. IMF, China, India, Norway, and Japan all contributed to the training of Langkang politicians in monetary mismanagement through the funding of unquestioned corruption. Modayas fell in debt of Mariana Trench.

While having a drink with a few friends during my annual holiday in SL just before the elections which brought GR to power, a junior Police Officer who had been tagging along, appeared to be highly impressed with GR as a man of action who could, literally, shake the country off the lazy, lethargy & the corrupt to make SL ‘great’ again. When I asked him of the allegations of corruption, such as the MIG deal & cronyism, his answer was that, it was MR & not GR. So the question was, would GR take action against his brother? There was no direct reply but he was certain that GR with his ‘viyathmaga’ intellectuals, would reform the country. No doubt this guy believed it & so did most of my friends. They were happy the way GR ‘decisively’ acted to prevent the COVID spreading but it did not take long for GR’s actions to go pear shape. The blind faith was such that the average citizen didn’t want the Rajapakses to be held accountable, as gratitude for ‘saving’ the country, & now its all water under the bridge. No politician would ever want to open a can of worms because they all have some of that dirt on their hands as well.
If Karma is true, then we can expect justice, otherwise, they all lived ‘happily ever after’. I hope RW would at least persuade his mate, MR, to give back some of the loot voluntarily because what has been laundered would never be traced.

In 1950, Kalhi Krishnamurthy, the most beloved writer of Tamils, world over came to Ceylon, to experience the uniqueness of Jaffna Tamils’ culture. Language, hospitality………… in 1950s Don Stephen’s anti Tamils crusade was at its peak. Kalihi was humiliated at the immigration, because of his popularity in the Tamils’ world by his unmatched service for Tamils, by his so powerful writing. So, he described, in his account of Ceylon visit he ridiculed his experience with the Sinhala Immigration bulldogs at Colombo airport like this:
    Q: Where are you going?
    A: Ceylon
Q: Why are you going to Ceylon?
A: To wrap it up, take it home, spread it in my house and sleep on it.
Kalihi had an idea to use the Ceylon as an extra mat, but in the minds of the IC, there was nothing, at that time. Ceylon was left alone, or more appropriately discarded, even neglecting its super quality tea in London auctions. By the 1970s, even Langkang’s education was scrapped off as nothing at the world academies. But the gradual dwindling of its recognition of glories of British was no problem for the Sinhala Buddhists. Ceylonese had unsubstantial arrogance about their welldoing status of those days, specifically, comparing with India of that time. They had little or no respect for Kalhi, the Mount Everest personality in writing, because he was an Indian Tamil.

      “Q: Where are you going?
      A: Ceylon
Q: Why are you going to Ceylon?”
Very interesting questions to ask someone who has arrived at the Colombo airport immigration desk!

Now the situation is different. After the war, the empty Thenkai Chiradai (empty, useless coconut shell) country, Langkang, got everybody’s attention. After the war, the bankrupt Oliver Twist Langkang became a highly useful partner for powerful nations to enter others’ houses through window grills as a spy common for all enemies. There are so many uncertain conditions that have developed world over, by natural calamities and man-made destruction. There is a fear that the situation is forcefully going to change the world order and peace and happiness of the people. These are changes Langkang politicians failed to envisage and tripped Langkang in the pit that it cannot dig easily in any event. Out of the 32 war alliances, Japan is the only powerful country willingly offering to take its hand off from Langkang. Small countries like Cuba, Iran, Israel, Middle East, Norway, Sweden …… also have returned to their home. But it is unimaginable the same kind of reaction from some others like Western powers, India and China. Any one of them or all their future could be wiped out without any effort if they make any idle withdrawal from the theater of Wildlife Sanctuary, SinhaLE, Lankawe. This kind of prediction can hold good even beyond the Evil Emperor’s demarcation line 2048 for the rebirth of Langkang.

This situation, which was created by Kadirgamar, was once considered a windfall to Lanka, but it’s involuntary lock up for Langkang and unintentional kidnap of superpowers. From the time of 1975 NAM, Tamils have been trying to appeal to IC about Sinhala Buddhist Genocide of Tamils in Ceylon. So, whether any big country wants to press Langkang, or they want to ask any questions about Langkang’s fundamental rights violation of Tamils, and on the other side this lock up condition if it can bring any fruit to Tamils in gaining some relief from Sinhala Buddhists oppression, irrelevant of any of these, Tamils like the international activities in Langkang as they perceive this as a natural- physical protection for them.

Langkang rulers may be willing to deny the existence of this situation and voters may want to forget about it by their 2 weeks’ memory, but by nobody’s any action the situation would clear from Langkang any sooner. Rear Admirable, Rambo, and other bald heads may want to build more Buddhists Viharas or want to spend more money on Rapist Army to have more Tamil youths taken to prison and tortured, raped, humiliated and murdered. But the superpowers, by the nature of their relationships with one another, cannot come with blind agreement to smooth their relationships overnight and or free Langkang on the spot.

Langkang wears shackles and balls as the wedding rings for the 32 marriages arranged by Kadirgamar with war allies. The Sinhala Buddhists are proud of this locked up situation calling it is because of their geopolitical location. Sad, no, other worst stupid talks the Sinhala Buddhists had talked earlier. Ceylon might be in a strategic position as bragged by Sinhala Intellectuals, with advantages for international war mongering. The problem here is the countries did not want to recognize that until now, but it has been suddenly discovered now. Do the Sinhala Buddhists ese think why they in the international blockade suddenly now, only after having spent $400B on war and have pathetically bankrupt? Though IMF had claimed last September that Langkang had fulfilled its obligation, no country has so far presented a presentable form of loan restructuring note. Why is a blockade is around Langkang while the warring parties separated by 17, 000 miles. It could be because now only Asian Supers have grown to beat their drum to challenge Western powers,

(A minor digress here is we all know Sampanthan Aiyya fooling the suffering Tamils Modayas that he is reconciling with Evils for the Secret Solution II. But what Evil is struggling to do is cut off the Kadirgamar forced multiple shackles and balls and run away only with China, freely. So he wants a Child maintenance release from Sampanthar Aiyya to enjoy the freedom with China) .

Whatever said or heard, the current democracy practiced world over is because of the internal wars and rebellions that took place in the Western countries. Further, as these were developing in the West, the Western nations were occupying many countries, so without any additional fee, they taught these marvelous concepts to the Eastern and African Modayas, including the Universal Franchise to Ceylon as the first nation in the East. Many of these Modaya nations have now, after Western nations stopped the occupation, repealed these humanitarian & Human right laws, because of their internal corruption. As the classic example, the Ceylon’s Father of Crooks, Don Stephen enforced Indian Pakistani acts and MMDA, right after freedom. Many rogue bald heads and Sinhala Intellectuals are fooling the Sinhala Modayas that these all were handed over to them by Buddha (Utter foolish talks), still no explanation why there are repealing good laws by imposing draconian laws.

  • 0
    1

At a time, Ceylon was considered, like nowadays Singapore, neutral, peace loving and cared only about its internal politics and the country’s prosperity by improving education. After the Kadirgamar’s reintroduction of Langkang to Western powers for the purpose of wars & money laundering, whether Langkang has been forced into the warring circles by external forces or it inserted itself into the warring fronts by corrupt individuals like Kadirgamar, but that kind of analysis is fruitless because in any case, the net effect those actions is same, i.e., Langkang cannot have itself released on its own. Filling up the international flights’ Business class seats with high profile diplomats and shuttling 5 or 10 times between countries apparently does not bring any yield in the mentality of the nations. Further Superpowers so far have not responded to the Tamils call for help. It does not mean they are only fake human right activists or bogus peace propagandists or dishonest democracies. Interfering in Langkang and freeing Tamils is not a $400B arms and 60000 soldiers for them. Rather, it could turn out to be a blow to their future leadership. So, releasing Langkang out of the current situation could be possible only by natural events happening that will make Langkang no longer useful for superpowers. Then what about Tamils’ justice?

    Vishwamithra,

I recently had a chance to read quite a bit about how the Argentinian prosecutors, Julio Straserra and Luis Moreno Ocampo, held the country’s former military juntas to account back in 1985. These investigations happened not too long after the juntas held power. They had the support of the elected president, though they still faced many hurdles from the deep state military supporters.

Sri Lanka should be compared to such countries, not to the US, which as a global hegemon claims exceptionalism; warts and all, the US institutions can still survive a disruptive charlatan like Trump.

In Sri Lanka, many years have passed since atrocities and war crimes were committed by the SL regimes, whether against Sinhalese in the South in the name of crushing the JVP or Tamils in the North in the name of crushing Tamil militants. Will any elected government have the courage to do such investigations and hold the perpetrators to justice? Will they be able to find prosecutors like Moreno Ocampo, who was later at the ICC? Will they still be able to find living people willing to testify against the perpetrators?

Accountability for corruption and destroying the country’s economy is a separate prosecution that can happen under any regime in SL if the prosecutors have some basic courage, but people need to bring real evidence, not just rely on hearsay.

Blabbering unlimitedly all sorts of things…. sounds like you are missing the nose drilling kids & their coconut fiber for a long time. Start to talk about the things that happened to America after Hunter carried a gun, which is not allowed to substance abusers, but that never happened in American history. Come on, let us see what you got; you said in CT you don’t feel ashamed, do you? What is the hold up, now?

        SJ,

How ironic you are making this comment on the same day Hunter Biden made a plea agreement with the prosecutor, a Trump appointee, on no-payment of taxes and acquiring a gun while he was a drug addict. In their addiction phase, people do a lot of disgusting things, and Hunter Biden is paying for it now in terms of reputational costs, public videos, and plea bargains.

If there was any real corruption, the prosecutor would have charged him with it. Beyond the unsavory influence-peddling using his family connection to the then Vice President as part of lobbying, there may not be anything illegal except in the febrile imagination of some, particularly Republicans.

The irony really is in the plea and its timing . What happened to the VC who used the UOJ letter heads to campaign for Old Rowdy? And old Rowdy lost the election!
There were more conspiracy theory accusations that came on Joe. But they did nothing to his election bet, but Trump lost. If Modayas country wants to support Old Rowdy & Siri Ma and if that is what Langkang democracy is, please explain to me why the Americans’ supporting Joe Biden is not democracy. It is not. So became a Communist. But every Sinhalese is dreaming of going to a Western Democracy and living there. America is their number one. Hitler King canceled citizenship to become King in Langkang. But now they have hired people to contest America and get their citizenship back. For Hitler King, Joe Biden providing Democracy is more governmental than Hitler provided for himself & his family. Even if the presidency is offered, Mr. 40% doesn’t want Langkang citizenship, so holding his American card closer to his heart.
You lost a British bet. Now what is the point of you carrying fire in your stomach against democracies? It is only burning you. I know one more like you kicked out of Britain: Karuna! But it accepted half a million Ceylonese. Your cackling did not win.

Very unlikely. JFK is now exposed as a serial womaniser, probable murderer. Churchill is now seen as less godly. Even Gandhi and Nehru have had their moral peccadilloes publicised.
But in this thrice blessed(?) isle, it is becoming taboo to say that Buddhist monks killed a Prime Minister.

        I would agree with them.
Buddhist monks did not kill a Prime Minister however Anagarika’s Sinhala/Buddhists monks (Saffronistas) killed Pandaranaayakam.
Therefore people have to be very careful when they make statements.

JFK the “probable murderer” was most unsuccessful with one target that he missed countless times.
Churchill, the mass WWII murderer, was well known but rarely talked about.

        NV,

Non-state actors can be handled appropriately; in most cases, there has already been summary justice and many have been killed. The state has to be held to a higher standard if the country is to make progress and not revert to more violence, chaos, and economic decline.

We may have no ability to take any action against the IPKF; even a TRC will be one-sided with only the victims able to present their side.

    “INDICT THE RAJAPAKSES”.

Why only “Rajapakses”? Are we going to IGNORE or PARDON all others, including the BEAURICRATS who brought this country to this state?

My next question is: WHO WILL or IS GOING TO BELL THE CAT?

I have been asking this question many times, but regret no answer.

Dear Leelagamalli: Perhaps, you who sprout so much venom against “Rajapakses” would be the one most qualified, in my opinion, to answer my questions. Remember, I have asked these questions several times from you but could not get an answer. Could be those questions are IRRELEVANT and not so IMPORTANT to you to waste your valued time.

      Dear Simon,
      .
The damage that the Rajapaksas have arbitrarily done and are doing is equivalent to a “weharak” compared to all other “a cutlet size”. That you still do not understand? it is highly questionable to me.
I have written you more about the size of the damage deliberately made by them over the decades. Not a single person in that miserable family earned anything by solid means. I know how Rohitha Rajapakshe earned his doctorate in Mathematics. The supervisor is called one ” Jagath Wijeratne”. Please make your recherche and get how much BPs gave that senior lecturer from Colombo University.
      :
. If anyone compares it with that of other politicians, that is truly biased and due to fake percetpion.

How much have they done to distort your perception? Please discuss this with the bazaar people, they are eternally brainwashed so you can know more.
In a country where at least some good healthy thought beaerers are there, Rajapakshes would not have been set free. However, their self defending body has still been srialnken PINGUTHTHARAYa community, and that protects them further. This is why I hate sinhala buddhist monks today. To me they are no different to catchers being hired by some politicians.

Mahinda and Gotabaya are directly responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Gotabaya gave orders to Shavendra Silva to kill surrendered LTTE political wing leaders. One of the soldiers at the front line recorded this massacre by saying, “they were not shot dead, they all were beaten and hacked to death”. Shavendra Silva and Kamal Gunaratne with other commanders were involved in unspeakable crimes on Tamils. The crimes were committed with only one aim, kill and maim maximum number of Tamils before the war comes to an end. And they succeeded in that by slaughtering more than 169,000 innocent Tamil men, women and children under the name of “Humanitarian rescue mission”, World’s first of this kind. Therefore, the entire Srilankan political and military elite at that time must face the an international investigation and must be punished severely for their crimes. This is only the first step though. The next step will be a permanent solution based on a federal set up to let Tamils live as free citizens. The same army which enjoyed and thrilled massacring Tamils during the war is still living among us in the North and East. These murderers must leave our places. Let Tamils run their own administration, which will safeguard their land and their heritage.

      Anton,
The fact is that war crimes would HARDLY be investigated as is the case in other wars, however the high crimes Rajapakshes have committed against their own folk should be indicted. Alone their behaivour, even after the war is over within the country is estimable. Journalists left the country for escape. tHE LATEST has been how they treated srilanken citizens in COVID pandemic was unique and hypocrite. If south korea can charge their former state leaders why cant srilanken former leaders be punished ? Mahinda Rajapakshe did them deliberately. This family has done more crimes than any other political dynasties in south asian region.

            NV,
Liger might have mixed it up with “breaking the country to pieces.”

Our people often mix psychology with psychiatrics, gossips mit facts., thanakola with Mukunuwanna. That’s how their brains are trained by their parents.

I think people in the Middle Ages were forced to think like that, but today people are out of that mindset, however, our South Asians are stagnant like polluted water, even though they act dumb according to the facts.

Ordinary Sri Lankans including Pinguttarayas are forced to feel that federalism is a division of the country. And today they always believe that their wrong thinking is right. Federalism has ruled Germany and many other countries for decades without any form of conflict. For their population of 7 million (equivalent to 1/3 of the population of Sri Lanka) an even more delicate federalism is found in Switzerland.

More than 30% of her people now have access to the internet, but they don’t dare to check it out and improve their knowledge. Instead they are forced to pirith chants of fake monks.

OK if Sri Lankan Tamils are purely descended from South Indian invaders and immigrants, then please explain the fact that it is the present-day Sinhalese who share 70% DNA with South Indian Tamils and Sri Lankan Tamils share only a 17% DNA with South Indian Tamils. How come? Sinhalese racists and hardliners can troll around lying but DNA never lies and it states the truth and facts that it is the Sinhalese and not the Sri Lankan Tamils who are largely descended from South Indian immigrants and invaders. Most of these invaders and immigrants from South India hardly settled in the Tamil areas but largely invaded the Sinhalese areas and many settled there. The kings used to import large amounts of Artisans, and craftsmen from South India for temple/tank building projects, as well as to be soldiers and their brides were Tamil princesses from South India, who used to arrive with hundreds of retinue and relatives. From the 10Th century onwards migration from south India to the Tamil parts of the island became just a trickle but became a huge sea further south. Many of the present-day Sinhalese castes as well as their upper castes and aristocracy are all of recent South Indian immigrant ancestry. Strang most of the anti-Tamils are also from these people. Here is one group of South Indian invaders/soldiers/Immigrants who assimilated into the Sinhalese identity,

    My dear Native,

Actually ive been listening to Sumanthiran who says federalism is a ‘first step’. Anna/Machang, he’s from the TNA that’s the mouthpiece of Chola LTTE leftovers. If you cant figure out what his second/third/fourth step is then i just dont know what we can do with you. Then there’s Wigneswaran who says the Sinhalese have no right to care or bother if secession is demanded so…you see?

India may have tried to break Lanka in two, but the LTTE broke Gandhi into a million and so ‘poof!’ went the tiger.

Im no fan of western colonization, but thank God in heaven, they obliterated the illegally annexed Jaffna kingdom.

You know as well as anyone else that Sinhalese isn’t found anywhere else in South Asia except Lanka. Odian is primarily found in Orissa. Tamil came from Tamil Nadu. Where is there a mutually intelligible/identical language to Sinhala? Do tell.

LOL the LTTE might’ve been created by India, but thankfully the Indians helped us eradicate the terrorist menace. Did you know that the LTTE blew up Gandhi (Anton Balasingham described this as a ‘monumental blunder’ and apologized before God took him – too bad that that child molesting sicko Mrs. Anton B is still around) – did you also know the LTTE blew up Premadasa?

There are several English speaking countries in the world. There are also French speaking countries. And there several Arabic countries. Why can’t the Tamils have two or more countries in the world?
