A tense situation is expected as a gathering of Sinhala Buddhist extremists are expected in Kandy tomorrow, led by ultra nationalist Bodu Bala Sena Galagoda Atte Gnanasara and his monk brigade. In fear of violence, all Muslim owned shops in the city are to remain closed and travel to the city is expected to be limited by the Muslims.

BBS Gnanasara told at a presser in Colombo that they will make a decisive announcement that will ‘impact the future’ of Sri Lanka at the Kandy rally. They are to announce which faction they will support at the upcoming election.
It was after a similar rally in by the BBS in Aluthgama, that an anti-Muslim riot erupted in 2014 resulting in four deaths.
The 2018 anti-Muslim riots in Digana was also instigated by the BBS inspired Mahason Balakaya led by Amith Weerasinghe. Weerasinghe had told media recently that he is planning to enter politics.
With a marked increase in anti-Muslim vitriole , it is puzzling as to why the law enforcement has not taken any move to suspend the rally that has struck fear into the Muslim community in the area.
