The Myth Of Ranil Wickremesinghe As The “Saviour” Of Sri Lanka’s Economic Crisis

By Roshan Pussewela

In Sri Lanka’s post-crisis political narrative, President Ranil Wickremesinghe is increasingly portrayed as the man who single-handedly rescued the country from its economic meltdown. Supporters frame him as the technocrat-statesman who steered the nation away from collapse, while international observers often echo the same sentiment. Yet, this narrative, repeated often enough to become political currency, masks the reality that Sri Lanka’s temporary stabilization was not the result of Wickremesinghe’s ingenuity, but of externally imposed austerity, accidental windfalls, and the behind-the-scenes work of the Central Bank.

A sober examination of the evidence suggests that Ranil Wickremesinghe did not perform any economic “miracle.” Rather, he administered painful IMF orthodoxy, benefited from unforeseen circumstances such as the collapse of the rupee and resulting tourism boom, and allowed the Central Bank to manage the complex process of debt restructuring.

IMF Orthodoxy, Not Leadership Genius

When Wickremesinghe assumed the presidency in mid-2022, Sri Lanka was already in the throes of its worst financial crisis since independence. The state had defaulted on its external debt for the first time in history, foreign reserves had dried up, and ordinary citizens faced shortages of fuel, food, and medicine.

In this environment, Wickremesinghe’s options were narrow. His government turned to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which quickly became the anchor for Sri Lanka’s stabilization program. The IMF’s $3 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF), approved in March 2023, came with stringent conditions designed to restore fiscal discipline.¹

These included:

* Suspension of imports, except for essentials, to conserve foreign exchange.

* Tax hikes and new levies, which disproportionately affected wage earners and small businesses.²

* Curtailment of subsidies, particularly in energy, transport, and agriculture, leading to higher living costs.³

* Privatization of state-owned enterprises, including restructuring of the loss-making Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and Ceylon Electricity Board.

These measures were neither designed by Wickremesinghe nor unique to Sri Lanka. They are standard IMF prescriptions applied worldwide, from Greece to Argentina. Their short-term effect is stabilization at the cost of severe social pain.

The Accidental Windfall: Collapse of the Rupee

Another under-acknowledged factor was the steep depreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee in 2022. The Central Bank floated the currency in March that year, leading to a sharp fall – over 80% against the US dollar at one point.⁴

While this worsened inflation domestically, it unexpectedly boosted tourism. Sri Lanka suddenly became one of the cheapest destinations in the world. For Europeans and Asians holding stronger currencies like the dollar, pound, or euro, Sri Lanka’s beaches, hotels, and cultural attractions were available at a fraction of their previous cost.

Tourist arrivals rose significantly in 2023, generating foreign exchange inflows that eased the balance of payments crisis.⁵ This was not a carefully planned government strategy but a fortuitous side effect of economic collapse. Yet, the Wickremesinghe camp has rarely acknowledged the role of this accident in “stabilization.”

The Central Bank: The Real Driver of Debt Management

If there is one institution that deserves recognition, it is the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), led by Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe. The CBSL spearheaded debt restructuring talks with bilateral creditors (China, India, Japan) and private bondholders. These negotiations were critical in securing IMF approval and in preventing Sri Lanka from plunging deeper into default.

Debt restructuring is a highly technical process, involving complex negotiations on maturity extensions, interest rate adjustments, and write-downs. This expertise lay with the Central Bank and its advisors, not with the president or his cabinet.

Indeed, IMF staff reports themselves credit the Central Bank’s measures, tightened monetary policy, exchange rate flexibility, and inflation targeting, as central to the stabilization process.⁶ Wickremesinghe’s role, by contrast, was more political: to provide legitimacy to the process and to manage domestic unrest as austerity measures bit into the population.

Political Capital vs. Economic Reality

It is true that Wickremesinghe, as president, became the public face of Sri Lanka during the crisis. His ability to negotiate politically with parliament, manage protests, and maintain a fragile state apparatus was not insignificant. But the leap from “political manager” to “economic saviour” is unwarranted.

The crediting of stabilization to Wickremesinghe personally has been politically convenient for his allies. It recasts externally dictated austerity as statesmanship, while ignoring the immense suffering caused by higher taxes, subsidy removals, and cuts to public spending.

The danger in sustaining this myth is twofold:

1. It obscures the structural lessons of the crisis, including the need for long-term fiscal discipline, production-based growth, and diversification of exports.

2. It allows politicians to rewrite history, turning what was essentially survival under IMF conditionality into a story of heroic leadership.

Conclusion

Sri Lanka’s economic crisis was not solved by Ranil Wickremesinghe’s brilliance. It was temporarily stabilized by IMF austerity measures, an accidental boost from a collapsing rupee and tourism inflows, and the technical work of the Central Bank in managing debt negotiations.

To present Wickremesinghe as the “magic bullet” is to indulge in mythmaking. The truth is more sobering: Sri Lanka’s survival came at the cost of immense social hardship, with the real credit lying in structural adjustments forced upon the country and fortunate external circumstances.

Understanding this distinction is essential if Sri Lanka is to move beyond crisis management and towards building a genuinely resilient and equitable economy. To mistake political survival for economic statesmanship is not only misleading, but dangerous for the future.

What the writer had said are true. However strangely he had ignored one important fact that initially lifted the nation out of misery! If not for the unconditional financial support from India to the tune of USD4 Billion, the chaotic situation would have continued for much longer. Fuel and other essential good shortages, continued power cuts, more agitations on the streets and greater anarchy. India showed who the true friend in need once again, while the so called “all weather friends ” were on a wait and watch attitude!

AKD’s “Joyously uneducated” era kills Ranil’s painfully-educated era ……. in more ways than one ….. :))))

“Joyously uneducated” is a state of being free from the self-restricting nature of formal education and past ways of thinking, allowing for a more liberated and “truly alive” existence. It represents a voluntary shedding of old, limiting beliefs and knowledge to embrace new, empowering perspectives and adapt to a changing world, rather than a literal lack of schooling.

        Key Aspects of “Joyously Uneducated”:

        • Rejection of Formal Education’s Straitjacket:
The term suggests that formal education, with its rigid structures and common curricula, can be restrictive and fail to unleash potential.

        • Willingness to Unlearn:
True “joyous uneducation” involves a conscious effort to unlearn past mistakes and limiting beliefs that divide people.

        • Embracing a New Way of Being:
It is about becoming “uneducated” in the ways of an old, self-limiting world to make space for new learning and understanding.

        • Adaptability and Growth:
In an AI-enabled future, this concept encourages adaptability by unlearning outdated methods and embracing new ones that foster connection and human potential.

        • Inner Freedom:
Ultimately, being “joyously uneducated” is about banishing all limiting beliefs and finding the freedom to learn and be truly alive.

            OC,

The problem with CB was not the laws – old or new – it functioned under. It always had good/passable/capable heads/chiefs that mostly came up through the system who had acquired training/capabilities/knowledge.

The rot started when they – mostly Rajapakses (Since Native will go missing ….. Ranil’s appointment of A. Mahendren, you are more qualified to elaborate than I! :))) ) – made political appointments.

            A. N. Cabrral is a two-bit accountant versed in cunning political maneuvering than finance.

Less said about Basil’s suitability the better – even though it was Basil (not Ranil) who initially negotiated help from India for the line of credit to buy essentials fuel, medicines etc.

Wonder, at the time, if India was buying fuel from Russia cheaply under the sanctions and selling in the world market at a higher profit.

AKD was smart enough to pick/choose and keep the same people in the CB – irrespective of their ideological/political affiliations – and keep them on a tight leash.

I don’t think that sanctions were that tight in 2022. The Russians only offered discounts after the sanctions bit.

The ideologically driven JVP old guard would’ve gotten rid of them and fucked up the whole thing in 6 months. This is what Ranil/Sujeeva S. and them were counting on. Shows how out of touch they are.

Unlike most uneducated, unbelievably-ignorant political voice-cut shouters in the parliament …… AKD has extraordinary intelligence and acumen to guide the whole ship. (You may not agree …… cause his father’s name is Buramphy! :))))))) )

He is shrewd enough to pick people like Hans W. and them who have the knowhow …… but may not be squeaky-clean.

This author has taken it upon himself to trash RW’s role in the economic stabilization, in particular to credit CB Governor Weerasingha with it.
Well, here is Nandalal Weerasingha himself on the subject:
“Sri Lanka enacted a new Central Bank Act (CBA) in September 2023, which aimed at providing more independence to the agency, in the hope it will help maintain stability, replacing a Monetary Law Act (MLA) dating back to 1949.
Notably, replacing the MLA with the new CBA enshrined greater independence and accountability in the new legislation,” Governor Weerasinghe said delivering an oration
marking 75 years of the agency.”
“However, since the CBA was enacted only in September 2023, most stabilisation measures had to be executed under the MLA.”
The problem was that the CB was always arm-twisted by political hacks like MR and GR. It was RW who gave it back its independence. RW was also the Minister of Finance.
Let’s not forget that Nandalal was appointed by GR, not RW. But GR was an idiot who would lecture the CB on monetary policy. If he had appointed NW earlier on, instead of the Viyathmaga clowns Lakshman and Cabral, and kept his mouth shut, things might have been very different.
It is good that even the JVP has decided to retain NW.

Oc, I tend to agree on your main point that NW has been a much better and capable Governor than any of the other clowns you mentioned. I would even add that he could be the best among the others in our recent memory. However, I doubt whether the things “might have been very different”. Because Gota would have definitely overridden NF versions over that of clowns like natha deyyo worshippers like Padeniya and Nalin De Silva, glyphosate Ratana, wanda kottu Jayasumana….so called ‘viyathun’ in a long list!!

I believe comments have been closed for other publication, but I couldn’t stop thinking about why LESTER aka Deepthi Silva continues to entertain us so much, and I’ve included my opinions on him below.

Lester’s social etiquette, in addition to his gender, is exceedingly debatable.
When questioned further about what he has stated in his own comments, he simply claims ignorance.

I am confident that this is Deepthi de Silva.

NV, we have been blaming the stupid masses for sometimes now. While that has some truth, isn’t the role of a ‘good’ political party should prioritize educating the masses? What we have seen mostly was hitting the nationalist and religious nerves of voters.

You are wrong …….. the masses/people didn’t have a real choice ……. it was always tweedle dee or tweedle dum. …….. The same inept crooks presented themselves in different guises …… different new clothes.

When they had only 3%, people didn’t want to waste their vote voting for the JVP …… but when the JVP/NPP under the leadership of AKD cleverly-marketed and presented themselves as a viable/electable alternate choice ……. the oft called “stupid” people ……. voted for them: Initially cautiously for AKD ….. and once seen in action, overwhelmingly for the parliament.

All the other JVP leaders/stalwarts prior to AKD were typical Lankan imbeciles just mouthing a different ideology …….. no different to crooks from other parties mouthing a another ideology/ideologies. Whatever the ideology, they pretend to be adherents of, in a crunch, all Lankan pols behave/are the same ……. driven by nothing but self interest …… Vasu, Dinesh, Wimal, Rasamanikkam, Mano, Thondamans, Hakeem ….. the list is endless.

      Wiraj,

I have repeatedly said in my previous comments that it is a myth not only about the RW’s claim that he saved the country or but also the claim that Mahinda Rajapaksa is the hero who save the country. These are the myths of Buddhist Sinhala politics of the country. Unfortunately, I am not sure about the intention of India’s help but both countries are now under the influence of Religions rather than human.

That means all the ‘Buddhist Sinhala’ political parties uphold the myth, and that will include critics of RW including the JVP.

It is customary to blame IMF for country’s illness, including flood, heavy rain, drought, cyclone, …never the greedy politicians, functionaries and stupid leaders. IMF was brought in to stabilise the economy by our own leaders. Not that IMF has nothing better to do hence it interfered in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs. When IMF is criticised should be for valid reason, conditionality and other things. IMF was invited by the state because the crooks didn’t manage the finances well which is not new.

In fact Hindians decided to rescue Sri Lanka once again. If not for S Jaishankar, Nirmala Sitharaman, K Stalin …. ….. … Bangladesh, …. I am still looking for information about Chinese support at the initial stage of the bankruptcy, actually I am depending on SJ to educate me on Chinese aid package.

Yes. You are right that the greedy politicians, functionaries and Stupid leaders are responsible for the political and economic crisis which include UNP from 1948 and SLFP since 1951. So far, including this time Sri Lanka get loans from 1965 about 17 times. Both UNP and SLFP are little different in their approach towards Capitalist West and Leftist Russia and China but both used Buddhism and both are from high class, high caste west educated Families. Once, we ignored the rule of law and justice or equality you have no other than to beg around the world.

Corruption and mismanagement drove Sri Lanka toward bankruptcy, while 40 years of leaders only deepened loan dependency.

nimal fernando, we need to be compassionate but cannot allow sin to go unpunished unless we repent to God for our sins, receive his forgiveness through the cross on which he removed sin, and then walk in holiness and reflect God’s image and actions on our earthly life. Jesus will receive us as he is the eternal intercessor for our life as saved in God.

Douglas, God’s image is seen in his sinless son Jesus who lived and died on earth to take away sin and which he did on the cross and death, going to hell and taking back from the devil, the keys to death. So he gave back keys to resurrection life to all who saw and believed in him in an eternal covenant of exchange. If you genuinely repent and fear God, you will not repeat your sinful mistakes, now forgiven. Doing sin is not “FUN” as you describe. Read the gospels about Jesus.

Native Vedda, God is perfect and created perfect man in his image to live like him. Only one prohibition was not to eat of Good and Evil tree but only Good. Eve tempted by the devil ate it and gave Adam too. That disobedience to God is called sin and has consequences. Today too, disobedience of the bible word is sin. Rational is in own mental decision like being God, but it is disobedience and is punishable. 2nd coming is not delayed but giving the disobedient, time to obey. There will never be a state called Palestine.

            Hello DTG,
It was the “Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil”. So Eve ate of it disobeying God.
“God is perfect and created perfect man in his image”. “Eve tempted by the devil ate it and gave Adam too”.
So God made Humans imperfect right from the start? Or the Devil is more powerful than God and corrupted the “perfect” Adam and Eve?
You can’t have it both ways, take your pick.
            Best regards

LankaScot, You forgot that God gave Tree of Life too but deceived Eve ignored it and hence they sinned. So Father birthed sinless Jesus through a virgin to have human sin crucified and went to hell and gave back the keys to humans again. Devil is now defeated as our sins are forgiven, and Jesus can take us to Paradise. When he comes again, nations against him will also go to the fire of hell.

                Hello DTG,
You haven’t answered any of the questions I raised, so try this one – How can perfectly created beings (Adam and Eve) be deceived or commit a sin?

DAVID THE GREAT: You are practically our clown. Religious beliefs are simply that—beliefs. This is shared by many different religions. I’ve seen some Jews slam their heads against the walls of the synagogue and act as though someone has momentarily taken away their senses. Beliefs cannot be proven, as we all know. We are not children who have fallen behind in human evolution, despite the fact that you may explain a lot as though we were telling them lullabies.
However, depending on your ignorance, you are the type of person who believes the beliefs to be true. There are some Europeans in your nature who would rather endure the physical and mental suffering they experience than visit a doctor. This explains why some impoverished people are killed in the name of the god. Lanka Scot has observed that many people in Sri Lanka’s rural areas are somehow misinformed by superstitious beliefs and don’t care about the facts. Similarly, you seem to have no life outside of your relationship with your god. You’re so fervent that nothing can convince you otherwise.

                    DTG,
I am aware that your brain cell count does not allow you to see farther. You are the target of everyone’s criticism today because of this. In contrast to the actual beasts of Deepthi or Lester nature that trip for flimsy gains, yours is far more innocuous.
                    .
There are an estimated 8 billion people on the planet, with 1/4 of them residing in South Asia. How many of them become sidetracked from their lives by superstitious beliefs? The question of whether humans are the most powerful species on the planet is increasingly being questioned by behavioural researchers. Humans, in my opinion, are the true beasts on this planet: they enjoy seeing our people buried in mud forever because their goal is to stand out for no good reason. This is evident when we look at Deepthi, also known as Lester, or similar cheap beasts in human disguise. It is said that there is karmic retribution, but the beasts are bred daily.

leelagemalli, your arguments about humans being beasts really shows your mental state. Better get admitted to Angoda, and stay there even very long till you know the difference between humans and beasts which are animals.

              My dear LS,
in order to better understand things, there ought to be some kind of IQ level. Not everyone has an easy time understanding things.

That is Sri Lanka’s largest issue.
While some people, like Lester, simply follow suit like certain animals do, others are experiencing the full brunt of the Kruger effect.
Our gullible people continue to be misled as a result. You see, not one of Lester’s CT comments is factual.
The same guy will either ignore it or respond with another question if questioned. It’s similar to going around in circles. He is merely amusing the CT forum.

This individual Leela clearly suffers from some psychotic condition. The CT mod should take action to censor or ban them. Disagreement is one thing, but this person is spamming the webpage with loads of irrelevant rubbish (in broken English) and attacking anyone who disagrees with their puerile views. As I recall, “Douglas” and “Sinhala Man” raised the issue on earlier occasions. There are likely many anonymous readers who drop by the CT webpage daily, see the volume of spam from this individual, and make a quick exit.

Not quite as psychotic, I dare say, as someone who insinuates that other people’s wives are prostitutes.
If the Liar of Eluvankulam doesn’t like CT, why does he keep coming back for more? Isn’t the Great Firewall of Wanni working? Or does the Nutless One peek through it now and then to see what people really think of him? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hello OC and all other rational thinkers,

I’m relieved to see that our nutless individual’s nerve was finally met. This man is a joker who, according to his small brain, earned $20,000 while living in Wilpattu, but all of this may have pleased his pay masaters in the Rajapakshe family but not us.
With the next debacle forming, exposing Thambutthgema Burampi’s inability, Namal baby’s luck is seen emerging; however, there are a whole lot of people in this beaten population who stand against RAJAPKASHE-POLITICS that ruined the country, even if his terms put an end to the terror eviction of LTTErs.

In the South Asian region, where superstitious beliefs predominate over facts, this type of false public perception acts like deadly cancer to a human or animal body. This is because gossips are like “dried fish” or “stinky cheese” to many people, who don’t care about anything but enjoy the moments when they hear any prevaricated conversations.

The UNHRC is screening human rights this month, so everything will be taken into account when they extend GSP plus the following months. If that is also impacted by Thambuththgemag Burampi’s misbehaviour, this country will fall into free fall sooner rather than later

                    Readers,
He is now recommending that CT collaborate with Worldpress. No website owner, in my opinion, would anticipate many fewer comments, whether they are well-reasoned or irrelevant to the topic at hand. Website administrators are judged by the quantity and quality of their comments. Additionally, everyone is free to contribute their ideas as long as they follow the rules. I’ve never been racist. Nor have I been biased in favour of rascals (Rajapakshes and his supporters). Lester and Deepthi, on the other hand, act like pro-rascals and are both racists. There are CT-archives to prove that we have read enough of them.

                  Hello Lester,
I suggest you read the CT “Comments Policy” carefully. Here is one of their Bullet Points – 6. We will remove any content that may put us in legal jeopardy, such as potentially libellous or defamatory postings.
I looked for any mention of “irrelevant rubbish” or “broken English”, but didn’t find anything.
The final part of the Policy should be given due consideration
“– If you act with maturity and consideration for other users, you should have no problems.
                  – Don’t be unpleasant. Demonstrate and share the intelligence, wisdom and humour we know you possess.
                  – Take some responsibility for the quality of the conversations in which you’re participating. Help make this an intelligent place for discussion and it will be”.

By the way, one of my close friends, a German biotechnologist, has been working with Nestle, and he has suggested that we establish a company site in Sri Lanka with an emphasis on new “PUNNAKKU manufacturing.” For the clinical trial that we have currently designed, we will require some sort of test subjects. Do you believe that one of our “target models” could be Lester, the nutless? That could provide LESTER with quick cash.

Wordpress has tools to block spam. Here is one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/comments-limiter-wp/

With this plugin, the number of comments can be limited. I suggest the CT mod install this plugin and restrict the number of daily comments to 2 or 3 . It will prevent spam and discourage abuse. In case of technical assistance, a developer can be hired from upworks.com at a low price. The developer can also explain the native tools WordPress has available (such as built-in blacklist and Akismet) for managing spam.

“I looked for any mention of “irrelevant rubbish” or “broken English”, but didn’t find anything.”

You are blindly siding with certain users for reasons unknown. If you are so desperate for friends at your late age, there are more constructive avenues than social media, which research shows can be toxic. nancytwins is the latest to complain. Apparently the website is causing her physical distress. Multiple users have pointed out the spam of Leela. Spam = rubbish.

The CT Mod pays Wordpress a fair deal of money to host this website. If the number of subscribers does not increase, or users constantly complain about spam, then it is not a good return on investment. I used to be an avid follower of “Groundviews.” Intellectuals like Dayan J would actively engage with readers. No intellectual in their right mind is going to engage with Leela-types. They simply don’t have the time or energy.

“You are blindly siding with certain users for reasons unknown. “
Well, is it better to side with one who calls your own wife a prostitute?
Does one side with purportedly educated people who claim that Sigiriya has 1500 year old 300 psi pumps?
Does one side with people who, depending on the phase of the moon, appear on CT as a hairy woman in London or a racist priest from Birmingham?
If any purported “intellectual” doesn’t have the time or energy to engage here, he ought to just bugger off and leave the rest of us in peace. 🤣🤣🤣

                      Hello Lester,
This looks like a Trumpian style campaign to purge people that disagree with you from CT. Your implied assertion that CT should be reserved for Intellectuals is “Elitist” and points to the degree of hubris that writhes around in your brain.
If a website caused me physical distress, I would stop using it for the sake of my health (maybe that is a possible reason for your “Sabbaticals”). I have seen far more abusive content in some UK web postings than anything on CT (probably due to the CT Admins intercession). I don’t think I (and quite a few others) have ever had a Comment disallowed on CT, can you say the same?
                      Best regards

                      7

Not quite, Scott. You are the one who defends losers, even when they are clearly wrong. People who constantly use expressions such as “nutless” and “punnaku” do not add any productive value to the discussion. If you disagree, then state your rebuttal clearly. I don’t know why an adult man or woman would use such language (excluding excessive alcohol consumption), but if it is part of their normal vocabulary, then they either have a low IQ/EQ, exhibit symptoms of psychopathology/mental retardation, or some combination.

“I don’t think I (and quite a few others) have ever had a Comment disallowed on CT.”

Now you are just proving my point. The user with the most comments disallowed is Ruchira, followed by Leela . But unlike the latter, Ruchira was simply going through a temporary phase and left.

“If a website caused me physical distress”

Nothing to do with distress. Reading loads of rubbish else: sifting through spam on a regular basis is a waste of time. Perhaps you don’t value your time, given your involuntary exile in rural Kandy (for economic reasons), but the vast majority do. This includes the time spent on “entertainment.”

Did CT mention any comment that is worse than, that sick minded Ruchi, posting filth and Jester not just enjoying but egging him for more by giving endless up-votes.
I didn’t see anyone criticizing or protesting , other than the usual people here to put an end to such perverts.
Jester, CT is not owned or regulated by a pervert like you.
I’m curious with the new avatar of yours, well versed in sexual offence act, messaging, harassing and penalties including prison term.
Were you actually hiding from us or serving time for such offences.

BTW, Lester has never denied that he is a monorchid.. But still, his apparent aversion to discussion of his privates is, strangely, also reflected in Deepthi, who also upvotes “herself ” regularly.

Those who engage in binary/linear thinking are very predictable. I have given Scott a fair chance. He needs to explain how repeated references to “punakku” or “nuts” (presumably, genitals) add any productive value to the discussion. He claimed that these are not examples of spam, so now let’s hear his rebuttal. Prediction: he will either avoid the question, or quote some line from Robert Burns, or claim he helped to design the Mars Rover. Or else he will let his minions spam with even more rubbish.

                      Readers,
Calling something “spam” just because it’s opposing, critical, or uncomfortable is dishonest. At the same time, free speech doesn’t mean freedom from moderation. A space with no moderation at all becomes unusable — but moderation should be transparent and rule-based, not biased or authoritarian.

If you’re seeing the word “spam” used selectively or manipulatively, you’re not imagining it. It happens — especially in political or controversial topics. Context always matters.

We should all agree to follow CT rules and focus on the subject of the article rather than trying to distract the topic by providing unnecessary content (e.g. Lester or Deepthi).

“Don’t be unpleasant. Demonstrate and share the intelligence, wisdom and humour we know you possess.”

What if his wisdom is completely obscured by his ego complex? Why did his destiny cast him as a lifelong batchelor? Why are so many people in the CT-forum and the rest of the world hostile toward him?

Lester, also known as Deepthi, and the Dunning Krüger effect.
Ants perceive their urine droplets as a large reservoir, according to a Sinhala proverb.
This saying was very prevalent in Sri Lanka when I was a child (in 80ties).
My elders kept saying the same thing over and over. That could be the reason why none of us discuss our degrees or attempt to use them to gauge how we behave in our families or among our relatives. In retrospect, my grandmother was the smartest person I had ever known, despite the fact that she lacked a degree. Her and my mother’s sage advice still rings true to this day. Despite the fact that I physically reside in Europe, childhood memories are difficult to erase.

Lester the nutless, we understand your suffering following lengthy surgeries over the past few months. Medically, the removal of the entire penis is called a penectomy, while the removal of one or both testicles is called an orchiectomy (or orchidectomy).
However, instead of trying to manipulate the average mindset (poor souls in my motherland), try to respond to the CT readership with ANY theories based on anything from functional analysis to basic physics.
LS has made it abundantly evident that you are nothing more than another ignorant kruger who is overconfident about own accomplishments, which may not amount to much in the modern world. The number of contributions I have made to scientific and medical journals has never been made public. Furthermore, I don’t expect praise from fools like you. As RNA technologists, we take pride in our ability to create effective vaccines that prevent the COVID-19 virus from taking millions of lives.

The question I want ask is, why didn’t the all mighty God punish the devil for deceiving innocent and perfect Adam and Eve. Or better still why didn’t he punish himself for not creating perfect humans who would not have be deceived by a cheater.
Why should the entire generations of humans be punished for a stupid mistake that Adam and eve did?
I hope you get my point. The point is that dtg is a complete imbecile to actually believe this kind of flimsy story.

Human Touch, devil has been punished and cast out of heaven, but as the deceived are still following him, God tries to redeem them from going to hell and giving people like you some time to get out. Finally, all not with Jesus will go to hell. No nirvana.

                  DTG,
It was the Devil who committed the crime (according to you) . Where is the sense in punishing the victims too?

                Hello Human Touch,
I know that DTG will never change his mind about the Bible which is in the main an Israelite Story Book interspersed with Historical information. The Bible is full of Contradictions, Lies, half-truths, War Crimes of God/Prophets and a good dose of Mythology. However it is taught in many parts of the World as the Infallible Word of God.
Most Atheists take the position that until incontrovertible evidence is presented the fallback position is that Gods and the Supernatural do not exist, just like Zeus, Poseidon, Thor or Odin are Mythological creations by people.
Do any of the Religious People not find it strange that in the 20th and 21st Centuries with the proliferation of Surveillance Cameras, Mobile Phones, Radars and Satellite Systems encircling the Earth etc. that God has NOT revealed himself? He did it all the time in the Old Testament.

One of the most enduring myths in Sri Lanka is that Ranil Wickremesinghe “rescued” the country from bankruptcy. In truth, the bankruptcy remains unresolved, and he did not save the country. A more critical question is, who led Sri Lanka into this financial crisis in the first place? The facts point to the actions of both Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to the Central Bank’s 2019 Public Debt Management Report, Sri Lanka issued US$4.4 billion in International Sovereign Bonds in 2019 alone, just before the presidential elections. This included US$500 million in 5-year bonds and US$1.9 billion in 10-year bonds.
Of that debt increase, 89.8% was used to pay interest on loans accumulated by the end of 2014 under the Mahinda Rajapaksa government. This all happened under Ranil Wickremesinghe’s watch during the Yahapalanaya administration. As a result, the total debt surged by 42.8% between 2015 and 2019, reaching LKR 4.26 trillion, which was inherited by Gotabaya Rajapaksa in 2020. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, tourism revenue disappeared, and remittances from Middle Eastern workers ceased, leaving the government without the necessary funds to service the debt created by the previous administrations.
Therefore, both the Rajapaksa and Wickremesinghe regimes played pivotal roles in the borrowing trajectory that ultimately pushed the country toward insolvency and resulted in economic collapse.

      Jit,
That isn’t quite the full story. Bankruptcy wouldn’t have happened if the Viyathmaga regime went to the IMF. But Cabral said he had “alternative strategies”.

OC, this is called the age old “Truth” vs. “Proof” dilemma. The line between what is ‘legally provable’ and what is ‘widely believed’ is really blurred. The kind of corruption we discuss are often intentionally structured to be difficult to trace. They use shell companies, offshore accounts, complex financial transactions to hide their tracks. This creates a significant gap between the reality and the ability to produce court-ready evidence. But there is a catch! When people see unexplained wealth of politicians, their expenses, assets, lavish lifestyles, then people make judgements! Investigations have found that Yoshitha, Namal MR have never withdrawn their salaries. One reason for the popular ‘Uganda’ story was Rajapaksha family hiring a private jet for some purpose. How can Namal own several Aston Martins with his legal income?? This common sense based “social proof” is very strong and powerful, even if it’s not provable in court. OC, does it matter whether provable or not, when people en masse conclude that politicians are rogues, and the system is rigged? What happened to Gota in the end?? People do this by votes, Aragalaya or even bloody revolutions so what’s the point hanging on to a dud logic?? Why do we stand for an argument that makes us comfortable but absolutely looks ridiculous IN POLITICS such as ‘innocent until proven guilty’??

          Jit,
There may or may not be proof. There is just one case, in which Namal and Yoshitha, both schoolboys at the time, were officially listed in CSE records as owners of a large amount of shares in Ascot Holdings. Nothing happened, of course.
          https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/rajapaksa-sons-among-top-15-shareholders-of-ascot-holdings/
But there are other indicators (social proof again ) . Tell me honestly, if you had billions of Dollars to your name, why would you not move to Dubai, Australia, wherever but here?
I am not saying politicians don’t steal. But billions of USD??
However, here is a pointer to where the money actually went:
          https://publicfinance.lk/en/topics/state-owned-enterprises-losses-cost-rs-141-809-per-household-1712887376
Yes, state enterprises cost 744 billion in 2022 alone. If you add that up for 15 years, it easily covers the national debt. Who is responsible? Politicians who keep these outfits going (that includes AKD who just yesterday doled out more money to keep Sevanagala Sugar going) and the people who benefited from free jobs at these places.

          • 7
            2

OC, why are former rival politicians being arrested and claiming that they apprehended the accused for minor infractions rather than serious ones about which they made up stories? For instance, Lanza is on remand because he got into a physical altercation with someone.
Even though many of the former men committed crimes related to corruption, they undoubtedly contributed to the nation’s development in contrast to the current incumbent men who are sitting in parliament. In my opinion, none of the current ministers are said to possess ministerial capabilities. Thus, the NPP government’s ten months in office are perceived as a waste of time.

“…I am not saying politicians don’t steal. But billions of USD??…”
Ok, do you believe if they robbed millions, not billions or in hundreds of thousands, then that’s ok. Right??
“…However, here is a pointer to where the money actually went..”
OC, I never deny that ALL post-independent governments did that and a reason for our long lived economic misery. Yet, our biggest enemy is not state white elephants but bribery and corruption! Not only robbing taxpayer money is a criminal act, but also severely damage the very fabric of our social and moral order. When corruption becomes normalized as you always advocate, a dangerous consensus takes root – that robbing public funds is acceptable, even expected, among citizens and politicians alike.
This mindset spreads like a cancer, eroding trust and accountability in ethical foundations that hold a nation together. Then it attacks every pillar of society – be it law and order, justice, governance, or civic responsibility until the entire structure begins to collapse. Look at some countries in African continent which are basket cases for persistent poverty, institutional decay, insecurity, fragile economy, poor public services, and widespread unemployment purely caused by corruption. Therefore, fighting against corruption is not just a legal imperative; it’s a moral one too, essential to preserving the integrity and future of any nation!

“Yet, our biggest enemy is not state white elephants but bribery and corruption! “
Can you produce any evidence that corruption was the cause of our National Debt of 100 bn USD?
I have shown that losses from SOE’s can total or exceed that amount. Here is another well documented article:
              https://www.sundaytimes.lk/250713/business-times/soe-reforms-rs-8-tn-loss-forces-state-action-603731.html
8 Trillion rupees is about the same as our National Debt.
I am not advocating corruption, simply pointing out that going after the corrupt while carrying on as before will not solve anything.
It is State white elephants that bankrupted us, and that includes the bloated armed forces. This culture of state bribery through employment must stop. Does the JVP have the backbone?

LS, A Military unbearable to our economy and state white elephants are all distinct part n parcel of CORRUPTION in SL. A good platform to protect them from people opposing their misdeeds, give jobs in return of votes, appointing their henchmen to get commissions, wielding political power, spending tax payer money for election work….a long list. A system that is rotten to the core run by rogue politicians and their advocates and flunkeys too, who immensely benefited from that stinky system.

          Hello Jit,
There are different considerations in England and Wales Courts depending on Criminal or Civil Cases.
“Beyond all reasonable doubt” in Criminal Cases.
On the “balance of probabilities” in Civil Cases.
England and Wales have two Criminal Verdicts – Guilty or Not Guilty. Scotland has in addition a “Not Proven” Verdict.
The System Approach to Jurisprudence is different in much of Europe. France and others take the Inquisitorial, while others (mainly ex British Colonies) take the Adversarial (Accusational).
Here is an Article that may shed some light on the differing Systems – https://academic.oup.com/oxford-law-pro/book/57435/chapter-abstract/473942085?redirectedFrom=fulltext

LS, I thought you already knew that citizen behaviour and attitudes towards politics in the UK and in SL are poles apart. It is important to compare apples with apples. In a country where politicians NEVER take responsibility or show remorse on their misdeeds, ultimate rules that work may not ALWAYS court room generated. Most politicians and their lackeys who are under the impression that legal terms such as ‘not proven’ or ‘proved beyond all reasonable doubt’ or ‘innocent until proven guilty’ can shield them from all their misdeeds such as bribery and corruption, do live in illusion. When people decide they have reached the inflection point and their day of reckoning has arrived, it becomes a tsunami. Nothing can stop it. On that day all those legal jargon that worked as a shield for rogue politicians fly through the door! I do not need to go on writing about this LS, I have written enough, but quote what I have written a few days ago…..
“…..does it matter whether provable or not, when people en masse conclude that politicians are rogues, and the system is rigged? What happened to Gota in the end?? People do this by votes, Aragalaya or even bloody revolutions so what’s the point hanging on to a dud logic??…”

A lot of people did conclude that Dr. Shafi could sterilise a woman in a minute.
What people conclude depends on what they are told, or what they think they know.

I have not seen any evidence to suggest there was a daylight robbery at Central Bank in which billions and billions of Rs/$/£/… were stolen.

However evidence suggests if robbery, theft, ….of state wealth are not his/her main motive no one in his or her right mind would dwell in politics or desire to work for the state, and even apply for state jobs.

Neither have I seen any evidence or figures, even from Amrit Muttukumaru. How indeed can the government lose eye-watering amounts (enough to sink the economy) by taking a loan from Aloysius?
But there are lots of economic illiterates who will run with that story.

“nowhere the subject advocates corruption as a way forward for economic prosperity. What people make up for their own benefit or convenience do not make into Economic theories either. End of story!”
How then would you explain the fact that places with even higher corruption than Sri Lanka are much more prosperous?
                South Korea for example:
                https://www.iias.asia/the-newsletter/article/south-korea-corruption-built-its-economy
                Or Indonesia:
                https://ugm.ac.id/en/news/pragmatism-greed-and-systemic-failures-deep-rooted-causes-of-corruption-in-indonesia/
Or even Tamilnadu, which currently has a per capita GDP higher than SL:
                https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Corruption_in_Tamil_Nadu
And of course, it was Airbus that bribed Srilankan Airlines.
Our economic problems aren’t caused by corruption but by mismanagement. The gullible public has been sold a corruption story. If that was true, where are the results? Did the price of petrol come down by 60% when the Minister changed? Is the Refinery refining petrol instead of importing it?
The JVP itself had a hand in creating these problems. Both CPC and CEB are inefficient due to collective agreements negotiated by JVP unions. It is naive to deny these realities.

Korea??? LOL!! Check where ex Korean President and his spouse spend time now! And some business leaders of chaebols like Samsung, Hyundai? Either they are in jail or killed themselves. I would say Korea would be worlds #1 economy if they didn’t have to fight corruption!! Do some research on fighting corruption in Korea or Japan or anywhere you mentioned and see how powerful the law, policies and people movements against corruption! And you conveniently forgot about the misery in Africa which I mentioned and is well published.
If you want me to prove how much damage corruption has done to our economy, sorry mate, I tried very hard but didn’t find any particular article in Google on how much Basil or Mahinda have robbed and what damage it did to SL economy! My apologies for not keeping diaries on their numbered accounts either, as I have not got the remotest connections to FBI guys. However, I have well proven evidence that corruption kills economies through the work of world leading researchers, which I have quoted but which obviously not had your attention. They all are much educated people than you and me, and I need not waste my time and CT space about your favorite elephant in the room subject anymore.

There are plenty, but none with concrete proof. But even 20% of all the infrastructure contracts doesn’t amount to $100bn. I doubt there were any bigger than even 1 billion.
But the figures I have given for SOEs do add up. We are barking up the wrong tree, watching a teledrama while ignoring the real causes, because grappling with those would implicate the organisers of the teledrama.

They also bribed Very Senior Politicians. I know, I worked for the Company.
Airbus paid very dearly for their Crimes, and we had to undergo regular “Code of Ethics” Seminars and online tests of your understanding. Many people at the top and below them fell from Grace and “left” (around 100) the Company.
Although most sections of Airbus were not involved in the Corruption there was a “Sea Change” in how Business was done and a very thorough dissemination of the new approach to Ethical Behaviour.
There were prosecutions in Indonesia and other Countries, however I don’t recall any in Sri Lanka.
Other Multinational Companies have also been involved in Bribery etc. such as Enron, Rolls-Royce, Mabey & Johnson, Siemens and BAE systems.

“If you ever have studied Economics, ……”

Sorry, I am neither clever nor stupid to study economics.

Nobel laureate Arthur Lewis suggested why it is necessary to accumulate capital and how it can be done in dual sector model of economic development. Sri Mao’s merry men tried and failed it in the early 1970s.

SJ please stick to Mao’s red book and stop nitpicking.

JR tried to industrialise the country over a short period of time and failed.

The crooks found a way to help themselves accumulate capital, through robbery, extortion, bribe, commission, ….

Therefore we can safely assume crooks don’t need to be economically sound minded in order to follow Arthur Lewis’s ideas.

Native, agree with your view. Politicians with help of cronies, systematically broke down the system and made it dysfunctional. Whether we call it corruption, family kleptocracy . . . . . . is nothing but discussing technicalities. . . . . . . for the purpose of shifting blame, finding excuses . . . . . . .
Appointing cronies like Cabral, Deshabandu, Sarath, corrupt judges, known criminal like Basil as Finance Minister, appointing / maintaining Departmental heads like Srilankan Airlines, many who helped and benefited by running scams from food , medicine to essential items, massive wastage of public funds . . . . . . . eventually leading to irreparable damage and bankruptcy. Take the example, of Rambuk’s scam how many of them, at all levels are behind it. ( Ministry, Pharmaceutical regulation, supply, distribution, doctors , people who directly or indirectly enabled, denied ……
It’s like blaming the metastasis instead of the cancer, which in turn may have multiple etiology including genetics, food habits, life style, smoking, neglect, exposure to toxins, . . . . . unknown factors . . . . . either we can spend time in discussing, debating , finger pointing, blaming, denial . . . . . .
the need of the hour is “treatment”.

You are right that both Rajapaksa and Wickremesinghe played pivotal role about the economic collapse after 1978 as leaders of both SLFP and UNP with the second constitution but the base was made much earlier than past 75 years by the same political parties. There are trustworthy sources that suggest the current government and its abusive practices will be exposed by human rights organizations, allowing the HR violation records to be thoroughly examined. The government’s expectations of the IMF and other international organizations will undoubtedly be impacted by this. Arresting someone is fine with me as long as they have thoroughly reviewed the files and are not limited to opposition candidates. In the belief that people would only expect the pursuit of Rajapkshes and former politicians, the current government’s reported criminal acts are permanently buried. Redherrings are used to deflect the cries of the irate people over the rising cost of living, which is more and more evident on TV screens. There are few commenters in this forum critical for my stating about the myth of savior Ranil. This article will help them to come to reality hopefully. Ranil went on multiple overseas trips spending billion of rupees while country is trying come out of bankruptcy. He was at least in political power for some odd 20 to 30 year prior to that and should be accountable for the country fall into the bankruptcy.
Also beside the point he is not above the law when people’s government is now in power.

Hopefully, our opposition parties will take action before Sri Lanka turns into another Venezuela in the coming months. Although we are referred to as the oldest democracy, we are currently becoming the Sri Lankan equivalent of Maduro, also known as the AKD, another Venezuela in the Indian Ocean.

In the ten months since they took power, nothing has been accomplished as promised; however, they are making big, big news about their accomplishments with drug cartels and underworld thugs. In actuality, crime rates are far higher now than they were in the past. All of these are intended to deceive the naive country about the economic setbacks that the current administration is currently experiencing.

A selfish egotistic geriatric can never have had the compassion to uplift the economy as he had the utmost contempt for the people and their economy. In contrast, the rascal might have obliged his ideological masters in the West and helped drag the country into subservient slavery.

I’m sorry to see such public statements from a former professor.

However, no matter what qualifications he brings, Sri Lankan-class hatred will remain ingrained in the person. Sri Lanka’s economic downturn is not the result of a single president’s mismanagement, even if MaRa’s terms were deliberately exacerbated by Rajapakshe’s autocratic reign.

      Hello SJ,
Anyone looking at the Chart would consider it to be a devaluation. An 80 % change in the space of a month or so is more like a step change than a steep depreciation. https://www.exchange-rates.org/exchange-rate-history/usd-lkr-2022

What is a ‘MYTH’? It is, in my opinion, a non-existent, unsubstantiated, unproven, and unprovable ‘LIE’ repeated over and over and heavily publicized opinion that makes a person a’HERO’ and ‘GODLY’.

In Sri Lanka, there were and are many such in-person. Two of them are – Mahinda Rajapakse, the ‘WAR HERO’, and Ranil Wickramasinghe, the ‘SAVIOUR’ of the economy of Sri Lanka. The facts relating to the creation of the “Mythical Saviour’ of the economy are well explained with substantiated facts in this article.

Thank you, Roshan Pussewella, for the courage shown in stating the ‘FACTS’ and ‘REALITY’, drowning the ‘LIES’.

      Readers,
Let us dispel our doubts regarding the myths and truths. Why don’t we accept the facts as they stand? By the time former President RW accepted the challenge, the majority of them should not have forgotten about the long lines for gas and fuel if the country is not misinformed and biased.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn4kpvL_hLs
We are well aware that Mr. RW was the only person capable of accepting that challenge at that particular moment, even if fools thought it would save Rajapakshes.

Nevertheless, despite everything that was said and done during RW’s 26-month interior presidency, a lot was accomplished for the benefit of the sinking country. As they truly are, I am not the type of person who would not oppose them. Not even $20 million in foreign exchange reserves existed by the time RW dared to take over, making it impossible to pay for the container that carried daily shipments. Honest people who live in the country would see the situation as dire, but Douglas-type individuals who are biased and inflexible would never see it that way. This is a curse of the island nation, which is tormented by a number of factors.

      cont.
Despite the heavy opposition of the opposing political parties, Mehdhi Hassan’s hard talk also reported that a president miraculously brought the nation’s economic inflation down from 70% to 2% in the first 12 months of RW’s administration.
And when AKD took over from Gotabaya, his predecessor, there were almost 6 billion USD in Sri Lankan forex reserves, down from 20 million USD at that time. RW accomplished all of these things with a small cabinet and a lot of hard work under his “unique leadership.” I won’t go into further detail, but I’ll say that around 12 years ago, when things were even worse for the Greeks and their shifting leaders, they were able to extend their economic achievements.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6TaFUBN4cs

Would it ever be feasible to accomplish the same results, easing Sri Lanka’s fears of more suffering, if any other leader had taken the same risk as former President RW?
What if THAMBUTHEGAMA Buramphi, a former Buddhist monk who went on to lead the JVP, accepted the challenge at that particular moment? Given that the AKD-led leadership has accomplished nothing in the last ten wasteful months, almost everyone with some knowledge would agree that Sri Lanka could have easily become another South Sudan.

Ranil has one huge advantage-he gets compared to prize donkeys like Gotabaya or Sirisena, empty vessel Chandrika or rogue Mahinda.

Compared to these rascals Ranil can put on a show of intelligence.

But if we compare him to say leaders of Singapore we will soon see a conman doing his tricks before an unintelligent or prejudiced audience. Most of his supporters think they are elite and have vested interests in the system Ranil lives in. They like their drivers and other servants !

If Ranil has these unusual capabilities maybe India or America will employ him to guide their economies !

What this kind of foolish adulation does is to negate the advise of the IMF, conditions imposed by our lenders and the ideas of many trained economists in our Central Bank and ministries as well as various other advisers

No everything is Ranil’s thoughts ! Even the idea to hand over the Post Office in Nuwara-Eliya to an Indian hotelier !

I’m wondering why many of us in the CT forum, with far more university-educated individuals as commenters, continue to represent the malicious culture that is spreading in Sri Lanka today.
JVP’s inability to do the job in terms of the country’s economic development, for which they have been given a higher mandate, is more apparent than ever. Instead, they have been putting former men in jail or on remand to appease those “new genzies who are the cyber promoters of their party politics” all along. What is the ultimate goal of this hate campaign? Over time, society will deteriorate. Hirunik, a former MP, said it loudly: “Leaders should extinguish the fire, not fuel it,” which opened my eyes.

This applies to all former politicians because those who embezzled state funds were also influential ministers who made significant contributions to the nation’s development initiatives, as opposed to the foolish and unskilled JVP-NPP ministers who have since demonstrated their deteriorating governing abilities. Since Rajitha Senaratna is a heart patient and did a fantastic job in his role as minister, I oppose huting them; however, their wealth can be confistacted instead.

Some new types of hatreds emerged when Sinhala was made the primary language.
Since people demanded it at the time, when colonial hatreds were at their height, I do not fall into the category of people who harshly criticize today that Banda’s Sinhala alone was the catalyst for all the chaos. Nonetheless, this ought to have been carried out correctly, as some other nations did. The animosity towards former elites in Sri Lanka is far greater than that observed in neighbouring India. Over time, JVPrs used it to mobilize. Now that the JVP is in power, we know that they are WEDABARITARZONs, and their only means of survival is hypocrisy.
Those who, despite using SINHALA MEDIUM in their education, were accepted into universities and ultimately relocated to the west to continue their education and establish themselves there. Analysts refer to this as the “Kannangara fraction” for ease of understanding. According to my sources, the Kannagara fraction is strongly opposed to the “classes-hatred” that underlies the former elites in Sri Lanka. The majority of the physicians and engineers who work and reside in Australia are from the Kanangara fraction, and they played a significant role in the JVP’s ascent to power. Hatred would not advance us in any way, regardless of whether philosophy or religion is the foundation. As a result, the gap is now growing today.

I have to say that I agree with you. As soon as I saw the article’s title, this is what I assumed. In recent years, Jeppos has used myths to obscure the truth, and our dimwitted populace has purchased anything that has been politely presented to them. Our people are prone to falling for any lie, but they don’t question anything. The fact that they can’t comprehend a billion and millions makes it a nightmare. I’ve heard ANURA KUMARA, also known as “nation’s ANATHURA,” claim that the private automobiles owned by RANIL and RAJAPAKSHE are valued at millions of dollars.

In actuality, not even POPE’s car costs 0.5 million pounds. Additionally, the island nation is still terrified by the mountainous size of the blant lies that AKD injected.

        OC,
YouTube videos are more likely to defraud people in developing nations than in developed ones. Additionally, there are vox news broadcasts from the United States, but the majority of them are far less harmful than the disastrous consequences of “youtuber gossips,” which affect Sri Lankans more than any other people: YUTUBERs’ “LIKES-GAIN-BUSINESS” is based on spreading and sowing myths and inciting hatred. More likes translate into more money. regardless of the videos’ subsequent effects. For this reason, we require much more stringent measures, such as introducing a code of ethics for YouTubers and their content.
Being born and raised in the Galle district’s “JVP-HOTSPOT” would make Douglas or someone similar dream of seeing someone get bloodsucked. That is something I am certain of. His own children are secure, much like Handunetti-paraih’s sons and daughters. Such a mindset ought to be dismantled, if not today, then sooner. Our society, in my opinion, is similar to a place where free poisonous reptiles disguised as humans are entangled; hate mongers are fueling them for their financial gain. Overall, as is often said, there aren’t even the slightest indications of a brighter future in this hellish nation, so long as hatreds persist.

Ranil is the greatest economist …… the world has ever seen. He is not book learned: he is instinctive. …….. Instinctive from/by birth.

Whenever the West hits economic doldrums ……. they accelerate spending to jumpstart the economy ……. spend large sums on public works …… highways, bridges, infrastructure, ……. sent out cheques …… ol’ Maynard: get one lot to dig holes and get another lot to fill the holes …… both get paid and spend, revives the economy. ……… Ben Bernanke: Helicopter-money ….. print money and throw from helicopters for people to spend to kick-start the economy.

The ol’ Independence shindig Ranil had ……. he spent more money for temporary toilets …….. than AKD spent for his entire ‘Clean Lanka’ shindig with Kumar, Mahela, …. and other guests.

If Ranil’s catcher who got the contract for toilets ….. spent the money in Lanka it was the right step to revive the economy ……. if he took it to Uganda …… it would’ve revived Uganda’s economy ……

When it comes to Ranil’s ol’ economic wizardry …….. AKD is just a novice ……..

The billions that Ranil spent ……. would’ve been great economics, if he spent the money locally.

Spending the money in other countries ……… doesn’t bolster his ol’ economic credentials. It only helped the economies of other countries.

The 2 armour-plated Mercs would’ve helped Germany’s …… and lifted up his sagging ego: well if that can be done.

His constant attempts to send himself up …… shows his ol’ ego is in the doldrums. ….. Perhaps one of rocket-man Chi-Chi’s rockets ……. can give his poor ego a boost …..

Native, where are you hiding? Wanna go to the moon without a rocket? ……… That’s my newest consulting business.

        Hello LS,
        .
Because of your love for your wife and family, you moved to the island after being born and raised in Scotland.

Yours is definitely not like that genderless Deepthi who, for some reason, is posing as someone from Wilpattu and wants to be in London. We also learned that you have been more assimilated into Sri Lankan culture over the past four years than anyone I have ever met.
I would like to know if you still have the same feelings you did at the beginning regarding the country and the culture that holds Sri Lanka. In the event that the political situation improves, I would like to return to the island after I retire, but I have other options if I so choose. I don’t think my thinking is up to par with Sri Lankan thinking these days; most of the ideas discussed in CT forums don’t resonate with me and make me wonder why people are more or less vindictive-minded instead of adhering to the “true teachings of Buddha.”

            OC,
The more stupefied society becomes, the easier it is to spread calculated blatant lies, resulting in fake public perceptions. This is especially true in our society, where more than 70% of the population enjoys viewing decorative wild animals in captivity (for example, elephants). In reality, it is a greater violation of the “true teachings of Buddhism” as preached by Lord Buddha to his followers. This was greatly aided by the power-grab tactics used by JVP fascists, who are now speechless in front of the nation. What magical feats have they accomplished over the last ten months? other than instilling hatred, which goes against the true virtues of true Buddhists.

            OC,
Sri Lankans practice Buddhism as part of their lifestyle. When Europeans become Buddhists, they tend to focus on meditation and other similar faculties rather than amisapuja (Danaya, Katina, and other similar ceremonies).
That is why any Buddhists I have met in Europe appear to be much more Buddhist than our average Buddhists in Sri Lanka.
In Sri Lanka, Buddhists behave hypocritically, and when heading to the next contract killing order, they now say “Budusaranayi” or wear thickened wrist bands to show others how strong Buddhists they are…. everything is fake in Sri Lanka under “BUDDHAMAMA,” even though I come from a family with roots in the late Rev. Dr Walpola Rahula.

          Hello Leelagemalli,
I had a few reasons for living in Sri Lanka apart from my Wife and her Sri Lankan Family. I had a good idea that things in the UK were on a downward slide and I didn’t like their isolationist policies (Brexit etc.). I have Children, Grandchildren and Gt Grandchildren back in the UK. I wanted them to be able to have somewhere that they would always be able to visit in the future that wasn’t just a Holiday Resort. So we built a house that was big enough for quite a few of them at a time.
I have settled in to life in the village where quite a few are Relatives. I don’t have the story-telling ability of Leonard Woolf, but I get by and entertain my Grandchildren with stories from life here. My Sisters and some of their Grandchildren have also visited and will be visiting soon.
As for Local Politics, we help out with Social Events etc. where we can. I see a definite change in the younger generations towards Religion. If it wasn’t for the monopoly that Buddhism has over the Rites of Passage, I think it would decline much faster.

            Hello LS,
I thank you. I actually meant something else. If we decide to travel somewhere, before going to a new destination, you are lacking in ground realities.
The same was true for me before moving to Germany for education. Also, before travelling to the United States, I thought that Americans are the worst beasts, but only after entering the country did I realize that most of the fabrications telecasted through action films misled me about the true nature of Americans. People are friendlier than we ever imagined. The same was true before coming to Germany; their black history dominated one’s thoughts about them, but current Germans, to the best of my knowledge, are more non-racists than average Sri Lankans.

              Hello Leelagemalli,
I spent 6 months in Germany working on a Defence Contract. I also lived for some time in Limburgh, Netherlands near the German Border.
In Germany (and Limburgh) I found people friendly and helpful, however the Government Personnel that we had to deal with were what you would call “Jobsworths” in the UK. Not all of them but a significant number. I did meet the occasional “Far Right Supporter”. Scratch one of the older generation and you find remnants of antisemitism. Again not all by any means. I think that this is why the German Government are so reluctant to. call Gaza a Genocide.

                Hello LS,
Jobsworths, I believe, are common in Germany, Switzerland, and Japan.
I’ve observed this among certain nationalities as we’ve been working with a lot of them. You are aware that they will be very upset if you are even a few minutes late. I found that in Australia, even if you arrive at the university thirty minutes late, it is not a major problem. Since punctuality to appointments is not strictly enforced in South Asian countries, which may be the reason they are still underdeveloped, Serenka doesn’t give a damn.
When I was in Australia, I noticed how adaptable the people there are in comparison to their German counterparts. Thank you for drawing our attention to this concept. Germans, Japanese, and South Koreans take their responsibilities seriously and sometimes go above and beyond.
I believe the Germans’ refusal to call Gaza a genocide stems from their collective responsibility to other nations.

            LS,
I’ve always respected the German proverb jedem das Seine, which means “each on his own.” Why not, as long as it doesn’t annoy other people.
I’ve always encouraged my coworkers to visit Sri Lanka so they can experience the local cuisine, culture, and natural beauty. Given that our nation is struggling with massive debt and a lot more foreign exchange, it is a win-win situation for both parties. The government should clear the path so that foreigners won’t destroy our culture and country by engaging in illegal activities that are resorted to by Jewish and Russian tourists in Wilpattu.
By constructing your villa on an island that is naturally endowed with beauty and serendipity moments, you seem to have done the perfect thing. Although I have spent the last few decades living in Europe, I always return home and travel throughout the island, and if I am not harmed by some of our citizens, I am delighted to be able to appreciate our nation’s natural beauty. Some of my coworkers can afford to visit the country, while others cannot for personal reasons.

          Hello Leelagemalli,
In response to “most of the ideas discussed in CT forums don’t resonate with me and make me wonder why people are more or less vindictive-minded”. I think the Well has been poisoned by the Traumatic Events of the past 77 or so years (maybe even 2300 years).
Sri Lanka went (as far as I can tell) from the Neolithic straight to the Iron Age, around the time of the Legendary Vijaya, and then in the 19th/20th Centuries from a Feudal Agrarian Society to the Modern Age.
The approach to History called “La longue durée” doesn’t seem to apply to recent Sri Lankan history as things have changed quickly with no time for assimilation by the population. “No historian would now seek laws in the records of the past but we do hope to attain some level of generality in our attempts to place events and individuals within broader patterns of culture” – https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/history-manifesto/going-forward-by-looking-back-the-rise-of-the-longue-duree/E70B0C77DCD0535AB75477C8B6024DD5

As you correctly point out, a group of fascist leftists known as JVP-ideologists have poisoned the well by spreading false information about the country’s facts and figures as well as its actual conditions.
After watching a documentary about Honduras and Venezula, I believed that, if the current rulers were doing their jobs properly, Sri Lanka would still be a paradise where we could make amends for our past mistakes.

You can find that anywhere. The group currently in charge, however, is a brainwashing attempt to be seen as “clean” by any means.

South Asia has had a poor record of writing history, unlie the orientals who kept records of events as did the West Asians
We thrived on mythology and folklore
In fairness, the Mahavansa was a serious effort although flawed in some important ways.

            LS,
There are some serious lacunae in the history that is taught to children nowadays. For example, many seem unaware that electric trams ran in Colombo till the 60’s. And then there is the mystery about who actually shot SWRD.
If it was left to Channel 4, by now we would have had a dozen dramas about Sir John’s escapades or even Arthur C Clarke’s less scientific pursuits.

              Hello OC,
Even before I was a teenager I read Arthur Clarke’s Science Fiction books. I even read his Wireless World article on Communication Satellites. I found out, later on, that Clarke was Gay and that he had a male partner in Sri Lanka. He made a few Documentaries on Natural History while he lived here. Is his house in Colombo still open for Visitors?
I also remember my Father telling me that the man who cracked the Enigma Code in WW2, Alan Turing, was Gay. He reckoned that Turing was forced to commit suicide.
Agathe Christie could have made a great film about the death of SWRD. “Death in Tintagel” could be a suitable title. Legend has it that King Arthur was conceived in Tintagel Castle. I did a little research and reckoned it was a conspiracy by Hamuduruwo Mapitigama Buddharakkitha but the Buddhist Monk Talduwe Somarama did the shooting, although there is some hearsay evidence that he was not the only one. I think the presence of the US Ambassador before the shooting was coincidental. There was also some extra marital hanky-panky amongst the conspirators.
              Best regards

          L M ,

Would you want to explain to me why anyone on this earth would
want to adhere to the ” teachings of Buddha ? ” I agree Buddha is a
great philosopher but where else on earth philosophers have
adherents ? Did Buddha really want a Buddhism ? And you see L M ,
in my knowledge and experience , those lived in the West are not
returning back to Srilanka after retirement , out of any love to the
country or family , these are just real BS . With their pensions , life is
more comfortable in a less expensive country and also some guys
feel badly isolated at their last part of life in the Western culture .

WW, thank you for your comment; however, I beg to differ. You sound one-sided. I don’t think many locals or foreigners come to live for selfish reasons. Most people who worked in the West as professionals or highly skilled workers do not need to consider their financial situation when moving to a developing country where many people are hypocrites. I know some Germans and French people who would like to relocate to Sri Lanka because they believe it will benefit them in the long run. I have also met a significant number of Lankans who do not want to return to Sri Lanka after retirement. So, I don’t believe that many people plan their future lives solely for their own benefit.
Medical tourism exists in Europe and some Asian countries, and knowledgeable Westerners are becoming increasingly interested in it. Some people who enjoy alternative therapies like Ayurveda and acupuncture will benefit more if they move to such environments. I only worked in Europe after finishing my education, and I have never worked with any Sri Lankans in my entire life. So I know what some of my colleagues plan to do after they retire. The majority of them are from Switzerland, Germany, France, and Italy. They prefer Buddhist environments with serenity at beaches and, above all, warmer temperatures to be enjoyed over many other factors.

            WW,
My mother (real goddess in my heart)was compelled to give dana to the nearby temple monks because she thought it was the best MERIT collection program for all our family circles..
I was born into a traditional SINHALA-Buddhist family from South Sri Lanka and spent only my first twenty years of life in that culture. After moving to Europe, I was heavily influenced by religious fanatics (Christianity, Islam from North Africa, Europe and US) in my hostel because I had unique ideas about Lanken society and SINHALA-Buddhism. i CLEARLY separate “Buddhism” from “SINHALA-BUDDHISM”. I later read as much as I could to learn more about all religions. I learned there that Buddhism (only based on true teachings of buddha) is the only religion that does not impose its will on others, and it is also very similar to “science.” As a result, I continued to be a Buddhist on an inner level, though not a Sinhala-Buddhist.
Furthermore, religions are not opiums in my opinion. Although religious ideas have the power to tame and mould humans, they shouldn’t be used as weapons. We also know that individuals can succeed without being restricted by religion, as the Chinese of today demonstrate. It is not religions that help people be disciplined, but rather the systems that do so.

              L M ,

No worries , you have full rights for your opinion here and I do
respect it and appreciate you replied with your point . In my
view through experience , Western culture is not that easy for
an outsider to embrace it and make it his or hers by simply
integrating . One simple practical example I would give you .
Just do this counting , out of all tourists entering countries like
ours and India , how many are Black and other Nationalities from
the West ? True , there are opportunities even to contest to the top
hot seat , the West trust them but still the divide is wide or not ?
The new development in the West is , ultra right movements are
gaining ground everywhere against outsiders living in there
illegally allowing the situation to slip into the lawful ones too ,
making it harder for them to plan a future for their children . I make
              it shorter as usual .

Really you said ” I agree Buddha is a great philosopher but where else on earth philosophers have adherents ? Did I not answer the question correctly?
From your fresh list itself, Karl Marx stands out.

What is my next line after that blanket statement ? That
explains what I meant . Why do we toil to make a comment
here if you only take one line and derail the whole comment ?
There are millions of people who follow thousands of religions
without even knowing why they do it . Buddha never wanted a
religion after him . So why all these hallabaloo using his name
is the point I and many likeminded raise . Even Confucius
Temples are not meant with devotion but with deep respect for
his contribution . But Buddhism is now used to let loose all
hell in countries like Burma and Srilanka . So we question its
birth and existence . But remember , I am not going to get into your
next useless argument of other religions and their role of world

              Hello DTG,
Hell is a New Testament Invention designed to terrify Children into believing in Jesus. Does an Amazonian Villager that has never heard of Jesus go to Hell? Do all Atheists go to Hell, even the ones that have not sinned (apart from being Atheists)?
My questions are not even rhetorical, for the simple reason that Heaven and Hell don’t exist except in people’s minds.

“Well, I dreamed I saw the silver spaceships lying
In the yellow haze of the sun
There were children crying and colors flying
          All around the chosen ones
All in a dream, all in a dream
          The loading had begun
          Flyin’ mother nature’s silver seed
To a new home in the sun”

Btw, a nigerian scientist who works in Germany has asked me about a former teacher named “NIMAL FERNANDO” who was a schoolteacher in Nigeria as early as the 1970s. In Nigeria at the time, that gentleman was proud to say that Sri Lankan teachers were like gods to them. I would like to know why governments in Europe are unable to reach agreements like these regarding the inclusion of skilled workers, such as trained nurses, in their healthcare systems. Poland, Germany, France, and a number of other nations require a greater number of “trained caregivers” because their populations are aging more than those in other nations.
I don’t believe the CT commenter is who this Nigerian was referring to. Could you please clarify?

        Hello Leelagemalli,
If it was Nimal he was probably teaching Literature and concentrating on Joseph Conrad’s Novel “Heart of Darkness” (Belgian Congo). Like Conrad I spent some time in Africa and also quite a few years at Sea. One of my Ancestors was a Bosun on the Clipper Ships and was lost at sea near Melbourne on the “Miltiades” Clipper Ship around the same time (late 1870s) that Conrad was sailing as a Merchant Seaman.
I am sure Nimal shares Conrad’s sentiment (in a letter to HG Wells) that “you do not take sufficient account of human imbecility which is cunning and perfidious”.
Ask your Nigerian friend if he ever visited the Ikoyi Club in Lagos during the late 70s or early 80s? I stayed in Victoria Island and visited the Club regularly back then.
        Best regards

          LS,

I’ve written here before ……. my name is not nimal fernando …….. it’s a very common/ubiquitous Lankan name I picked for the forum ……. like Adam Smith or John Doe. ……. It gets so crazy people even attacked the Fernando caste – whatever that is! :)))

In hindsight …… I should’ve picked Foreign Vedda ……. to avoid all the crap.

I finished college in the mid 80’s ……. so I couldn’t have been a teacher in the 70’s. …… I know very little about my previous birth – DTG is the person to ask.

I have never set foot in the African continent (unless Morocco is there.)

Two places I’ve never visited: Africa and Israel …… because of South Africa. All my siblings have ….. and my kids have volunteered in remote medical clinics run by missionary outfits.

They are Atheists: the most trouble they had …….. the missionaries trying to convert them without letting them do their work. Drove them nuts.

But we will visit Africa early next year ……. the trip’s already planned.

            1/2,

            LS,

For Lankans caste in a big deal. …… My father is low-country Govi, my mother is upcountry Govi. …… the distance between their ancestral homes, 70 – 80 miles max. But for my Mom’s clan that’s enough to try to do the one-upmanship over my father’s. ……… For my father it’s a huge joke. …….. If not, marriages will be broken, blood will be shed …… wars will go on for longer than 30 years. ……… Sicilian feuds are child’s play.

What I’ve heard is ……. Tamils have even a worse caste system. …… One of my BILs tells a story about a group of them batch-mates going to Jaffna during their Colombo medical faculty days. They were walking around Jaffna in the midday sun, got very thirsty and tried to go to a nearby house to get some water to drink. The boy who they were staying with, prevented them from going, as the people in that house belonged to a lower caste. Even though the house looked bigger, newer and cleaner than the one they were staying in.

            2/2

Sometimes I wonder, if the arguments going on in the forum among Tamils ………. are caste-based ……. than based on facts, truth …… or even reality.

I don’t care much about castes – except when it comes to marriage for my kids …… unfortunately race and caste can put their offspring at a disadvantage ( Race in the world and caste in Lanka – I’ve said it before, here. On that score, I guess I’m a little more honest than Native. :))) )

Except for a few, I don’t even know the names of all the castes in Lanka ……… but the effects of castes on the psyche of Lankans are so strong ………. I can guess with some degree of accuracy ……… if someone belongs to a higher or lower caste ……. by just reading what they write ……..

thank you. I’ll ask him about it and get back to you. In the middle of the 1990s, I also had Ghanaians living in our multicultural hostel. That’s how I met people from Latin America and Afro-Nations. But now, I work with at least fifty nationalities. Whenever I have time, I share their customs and culture with them.

Btw, as I was about to buy some everyday necessities this evening, I couldn’t help but think of you because of the way the super market cashier behaved—it was exactly like Jobsworth. The phrase came back to me when you used it in your remarks two days ago.

I took the time to browse through all the comments, as I am not physically well enough to engage in anything else. This forum appears to have degenerated into a club of old acquaintances from the bygone era of the Colombo elitists of the RW class.

Except at the beginning, the topic of the essay has been lost from early on. After that, it has been a series of ‘how do you do’s.

It has gone too far, even in that aspect, when one of these ‘Codgers’ expresses that JVPer are a bunch of fascists. Perhaps he should examine the true meaning of fascism. JVP does not fit the bill. It started with a bunch of rightfully disgruntled, disadvantaged, and marginalized youth.

The writer’s points are right on the mark. Ranil is a psychopath in its classical and even clinical meaning. He could cut with the same precision as any surgeon, devoid of any human feelings. In his demented mind, he is performing a task. Many of the sitting politicians could indeed have done what he did, but they lacked the courage to hurt the defenceless, economically disadvantaged of SL. Although crooks, many of them had hearts and empathy, except Ranil.

      JVP (Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna)
      Background:

      A Marxist-Leninist party.

      Led by Rohana Wijeweera.

      Responsible for two armed insurrections:

      1971: Against the SLFP government.

1987–1989: During the second insurrection, against the UNP government and the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF).

      Controversial actions:

1987–1989: Thousands of people were killed — many civilians.

JVP had a policy of “selective assassination” — they targeted police, politicians, public servants, and others seen as “collaborators.”

Reports suggest the JVP’s Deshapremi Janatha Viyaparaya (DJV) wing used brutal methods.

Also known to have killed suspected “traitors” among civilians.

      Are they fascists?

      That’s debated.

Some argue yes: Because of their authoritarianism, suppression of dissent, use of violence, and ultranationalist rhetoric during the late ’80s.

Others say no: JVP originated from a Marxist-Leninist ideology, which is typically left-wing, not right-wing fascism.

But ideologies can shift — and authoritarian violence can resemble fascism in practice, regardless of whether it comes from the far-left or far-right.

      tobe continued.

LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam)
      ✅ Background:

Tamil militant group fighting for a separate Tamil state (Tamil Eelam).

Active from the late 1970s until their defeat in 2009.

      Led by Velupillai Prabhakaran.

      ❌ Controversial actions:

Known for suicide bombings, child soldier recruitment, assassinations, and attacks on civilians.

Eliminated rival Tamil groups — effectively became a totalitarian force in areas they controlled.

Carried out ethnic cleansing in some areas (e.g., expelling Muslims from Jaffna in 1990).

      🤔 Are they fascists?

      Again, debated.

Some say yes: Their totalitarian control, intolerance of dissent, cult-like leadership, and use of violence are traits often associated with fascist regimes.

Others argue no: Their goal was not to impose a fascist ideology but to create a separate Tamil homeland — they were more nationalist rebels than ideologically fascist.

🎯 So why do Sri Lankans call JVP and LTTE “fascists”?

      It’s often political shorthand for:

      Brutality and suppression of dissent

      Totalitarian or authoritarian behavior

      Violent extremism

Even if not ideologically fascist, their methods and lack of democracy in practice made them resemble fascist movements.

🟩 Current JVP (as of 2020s)

Now rebranded as NPP (National People’s Power).

      Participates in democratic politics.

Promotes anti-corruption, leftist economics, and social justice.

Many Sri Lankans — especially youth — now see them as a legitimate alternative to the traditional parties.

That said, memories of 1987–1989 still haunt many people.

Srilankans are in deep love with mythology . Ranil only made it much
easier for them and so were and are other Ranil Friends . Myth is their
saviour and so are their leaders . Prof M K D Silva’s Srilanka history ,
he insists Buddha never came to Srilanka and Thisaranee once wrote in
one article that the tooth relic exhibited in Dalada Maligawa is not real .
Who wants to even think about it , let alone agree . So no escape from
Myth adoption for comfort . So , no wonder tourists love to enjoy visiting
Myth lovers’ paradise . Dressed like 21st century and living in the Stone Age !
Where else is best for it ?

whywhy, those very honest principals of Kandy schools have seen the tooth relic and say that it is deceptive and looks like a huge piece of bone which people are worshipping.

        DTG,
“have seen the tooth relic and say that it is deceptive and looks like a huge piece of bone “
True, but aren’t all those relics of Jesus Christ that you worship fake too?
Do you know that the Muslims and the Jews don’t worship idols and statues, but you do?

          Hello OC,
Most Protestant Churches have the same attitude about Idols and Statues as the Jews and Muslims.

      Hello whywhy,
I am an Atheist, however I have visited most of the great Cathedrals in the UK during my work with Government Departments. I visit them for the Architecture, History and Cultural significance.
I have also stood in the very spot that Mary Stewart, Queen of Scots was married to the Dauphin in Notre-Dame Cathedral on April 24, 1558. I also visited quite a few while I worked in Germany and the Netherlands. On a trip to Aachen I went to the Cathedral which was likely visited by Macbeth. Aachen was known as Aix-la-Chapelle back then and was the burial site of Charlemagne. I also went to Paderborn and Cologne Cathedrals. Cologne has twin spires like Aberdeen’s St Machar’s Cathedral.
I lived not too far from the Roman ruins at Wroxeter (Viriconium) which may have been the legendary “Camelot”. My Sri Lankan Wife was very impressed by them.
While the Myths are entertaining, they are not the reason why I visit sites in Sri Lanka. Many Cultures are partly built on Legends and Myths. It is when these Myths are taken literally that they can become dangerous (Greater Israel, the Genocide in Gaza and the Holocaust)
      Best regards

LankaScot, Even if you stood on the very spot, what does it prove? You can even stand in a bathroom. So what?

          Hello DTG,
Because when you visit a place of historical significance like Notre-Dame, feel the ambience and see the same structures and paintings , you can vicariously put yourself in the shoes of the participants that took part in these events.
To see the wild mountains around you in Glencoe where the McDonalds were massacred and realise that many of the women and children that escaped into the snow covered heights froze to death, brings home the extent of man’s inhumanity.
Surveying the scene at Drummossie Moor gives you an understanding of how big a mistake it was to take on Butcher Cumberland’s forces at the Massacre of Culloden (1746) in that particular place. Cumberland issued orders that no prisoners be taken. There was nowhere to escape to.
I could go on but you are obviously a Philistine (in the metaphorical sense).
          Best regards

The “arrest” was just for show. The NPP will score a few points with the IMF.

Lester is at last revealing something important.

I just happened to read that the university that extended the honorary professorship offer to Prof. Maithree W has explicitly stated that their VC has extended an invitation to former President RW. The government must now provide a clear definition of the “so called independent judiciary.” The greatest cost, in my opinion, must be borne by the harm caused by incumbent L-board leadership.

“university that extended the honorary professorship “ Government should not uplift an educational institution operating in a competitive market environment, equal to itself and reciprocate or return an obliged reply. For the last 40 years the Appe Aanduwas have torn off all business and political agreements made with India because of the biased local group’s protests. Yet not=campaign for Gothapayal’s $4.5 Indian loan only put the Langkang’s Marathon queues back at home. The Evil Emperor said that India extending such a loan after the government had stopped external loans’ installments is only a suspicious action of a neighboring bully, Langkang sacrificed its billions worth of development projects by partnering with India but sunk deep in Mariana Drench for China Veto. The evil emperor responsible for selling Hangbangtota and Colombo Pong Cing. 2015 Yahapalanaya election victories came with the promise of abolishing the tentative deals that existed on those. These are all costs of UNP saving its partner SLFP’s leader Old Rowdy King.
Private Universities are only projects run on detonations and give PhD for Chandrika, Evil Emperor, spouse, Sadampi, and give college degrees to Valaiththodam Jr, Anura Solomon…..they never matches with a parliament, elected with sovereign peoples’ mandates. Normally, leasers ignore or send agents only to non-friendly countries’ invitations. The invitation might have been intentionally advocated for a fun vacation,
