“Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door” ~ Coco Chanel
Nugegoda meetings have had a short history of success for the country’s political opposition. The first ‘impeachment rally’ organized by the then Democratic United National Front (DUNF) in 1993 was held in Nugegoda. And it was a grand success. President Premadasa was rattled; later, his responses to the subsequent DUNF action were measured and brutal. He did not last more than one year after the meeting. His ultimate demise was greeted by firecrackers all over the island, even though such callous and uncivilized responses to a leader’s killing by a terrorist group cannot be justified under any circumstances. It all began with the now famous ‘Nugegoda meeting’.

Nugegoda Meeting 21 November, 2025
The current Opposition, without its official leader, Sajith Premadasa and his Party Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB), held such a ‘rally in Nugegoda yesterday, November 21, 2025. The NPP government has completed one year in power. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the NPP was elected President exactly two months before that, September 21, 2024. Tactics, within a convoluted strategy seems to be clever and yet, unless the desired results were achieved, were a waste of time and energy.
One significant commission of error by the so-called leaders of the ‘Opposition’ was its leaders who happened to speak at the rally. Yes, the shelf-life of people’s memory could be short, for their priorities could be elsewhere. The micro economic dynamics might be engaging the average voter away from the rhetoric and diversification tactics employed by the government leaders; daily shopping for groceries and other essentials for each household may be more important than the speeches expounded by the NPP leaders. Yet, the people must be right when they are confronted with the alternatives thrown at them by the national conversation.
Comparison, as an essential element in the process of judgment of national leaders, is an integral component of the decision-making dynamics. Men and women who live their lives in circumstances that were created by the very men and women who ruled them in the past seventy five years are now challenging those who succeeded them at the elections, held just twelve months ago. The pathetic status of the country’s economy that these past leaders and their political offspring brought about cannot be forgotten in just one year. In their simple minds, the people must have arrived at their own simple verdicts; those verdicts were not very kind to these charlatans of the past leaders. Those past leaders and their henchmen have not offered any apology; they have not asked for the people’s forgiveness. These leaders seem to measure the people’s mindset by the same yardstick that they measured in the past: dull and dead.
The people have moved past that milepost. Trust, the most vital and consequential element by which the people judge each of their leaders, has eroded and that element has been bestowed upon a different, fresh and untested set of leaders; they, at least for the time being, are enjoying a fair and balanced amount of that measure, trust.
In such a clear and stark context, where could the leaders who happened to step on to the Nugegoda platform be placed? Did that context allow any latitude to be enjoyed by these losers who paraded on the Nugegoda stage? Were the ideas and ideals deliberated by the same men and women lend any room and space for the average Sri Lankan voter to think otherwise? The questions are many and answers few.
Organizing a rally in the greater Colombo area and expecting a sizable crowd to attend it may be an unsophisticated, doable task. The money and man-hours necessary for such an elementary task is no challenge for the Rajapaksas and the absence of the SJB and its leader Sajith Premadasa may not have been even noticed. In the last Parliamentary elections, the NPP swept the Colombo district. All electorates surrounding Nugegoda scored the highest in majorities in each electorate and the percentages were monumental. The Opposition’ s positioning in Nugegoda was exceptionally in an unfriendly arena.
Those who planned this meeting did not have an iota of political acumen; nor did they have a tactical mindset and that was exhibited by the men and women they paraded on stage. Politics, especially in the current conditions, is not an enterprise that should be undertaken by fools.
When the then DUNF organized the ‘Nugegoda Rally’ in 1993 against President Premadasa, those who were present on the platform were themselves giants of the United National Party (UNP)’s government: Gamini Dissanayake, Lalith Athulathmudali and GM Premachandra. All three of them were brilliant speakers; they had a consummate cause for the meeting. R Premadasa, despite some of his people-friendly programs and projects, engaged in treacherous acts like lending arms to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE); his modus operandi of governance was extremely unpopular with the middleclass in the country. His callous treatment of his own Cabinet of Ministers was abysmal and employment of street thugs in some of the government ventures became openly-discussed subjects in many a quarter. They knew that a tyrant was on the rise.
The Nugegoda Rally launched by the DUNF was not only tactically sound; given the then prevalent condition in the country, it was a necessary and strategically successful. A countrywide dislike of the ‘Premadasa-saga’ was created and the leaders who were at the forefront of the campaign were highly popular and known over-achievers in the then UNP government. Gamini for meeting his task-oriented goals of the massive Mahaweli Program and gaining of Test-status for Sri Lanka in Cricket; and Lalith’s achievement of transforming the Colombo port from a scratch-work third-world harbor to a modern hub of a port and his tremendously popular Mahapola scholarship program aimed at the lending a helping hand to the needy university entrants were winners from the start.
There is none in the current Opposition who could match these two politically colossal figures, Gamini and Lalith. In such a context, when Namal Rajapaksa uttering words such as ‘we will topple the government at the earliest opportunity’ sounds so hollow and naive. Namal Rajapaksa is an invalid coin today. His past and present seem to be equally unsteady and unpromising. All the others who addressed the rally are not even known in the country except for the few whose political reputations have been wounded beyond healing and cure.
But there are some lessons the NPP government could learn from this failed Rally. The Nugegoda was a failed Rally not because it failed to draw crowds. It did have some sizable segment of men and women. It failed because it did not throw out any new faces; if the coalition of opposition wanted to impress a suspecting audience, it had to show that they had more than the failed leadership of the past. Today’s Opposition failed because it failed to recognize the fundamental cause for change. The NPP and its leadership succeeded because they meant to present a new face and fresher alternative in policies, principles and personalities.
Not meeting this elementary demand of the people is not an unforced error; it’s a basic absence of planning strategy and operational tactic. It indeed was a ‘Pus Wedilla’. When a political entity fails in these fundamental aspects of action, it fails to draw men towards itself. Superlative determination and dogged single-mindedness have helped the NPP to launch itself as an acceptable alternative to the status quo and mainstream and social media have helped them to gain unprecedented popularity. Simpleton minds cannot achieve such goals; it requires much more than ordinariness; it needs a basic change in thinking and mindfulness. The NPP possessed both. But if they lose that, they too will be judged by the people, by the same yardstick.

The only lesson AKD needs ……. is to keep his intentions/aim true.

Succeed or fail …….. he can live/die with his head held high.

The Nugegoda meeting going by the crowd, was no failure, considering that the parties organising it got only about 8% of the vote.
What that means is that people do consider the cost of living as a significant factor, not , as Vishwamitra suggests, some vague concepts like anti-corruption or the over-publicised “war on drugs”. Even the Cardinal should by now be aware that no mastermind will be found in the near future.
But that is what we should be afraid of. If the incompetence of the NPP/JVP drives voters back into the arms of racists and crooks like those in the Pohottuwa, even God wouldn’t be able to save this country.
/
SJ / November 22, 2025
oc
The incompetence of the JVP/NPP is an issue for the public.
Any serious JVP ideologist has to worry about its betrayal of its anti imperialist and Indian expansionist stands.
It happened in Ecuador. Lenin Moreno, the hand-picked successor to Rafel Correa in a matter of days after election as president reversed everything that Correa had built.
Moreno ended his presidential term with pathetic approval rating (at 4.8% to 9%) the lowest for any president since Ecuador returned to electoral democracy in 1979.
The damage he did to the Ecuadorean left was severe.
*
I wonder what the near future holds for Anura Kumara and his team.
Certainly his seemingly Marxist partners cannot continue unembarrassed.

“…..Any serious JVP ideologist has to worry about its betrayal of its anti imperialist and Indian expansionist stands…..”
I guess you can count such ‘ideologists’ in JVP today with your fingers, out of the party membership. Same with the total who voted NPP in the last election.
/
SJ / November 23, 2025
Use any number of fingers as you choose.
But there still are ideologists, and serious ones. They have a problem answering critics, especially the FLSP.
/
Jit / November 24, 2025
Again SJ, numbers matter. To influence the pathway a party chooses to tread.

SJ / November 24, 2025
Do you deny that there JVP ideologists?
If not, what is the point that you are trying to make?

Ideologists influence political direction but do not always decide.

“Do you deny that there are JVP ideologists?”
/
Jit / November 25, 2025
My point is “…..Any serious JVP ideologist has to worry about its betrayal of its anti imperialist and Indian expansionist stands….” is grossly outdated statement considering the way JVP, AKD & the NPP operates today. There is not a single meek from them about what AKD does with India or capitalism. I wish you understood that reality.

If Namal ever becomes President, it will be AKD ‘s doing.
Assuming, of course, that removal of the Executive Presidency will also not happen. It seems to grow on whoever becomes President.

OC,
According to Handunetti (aka as BIGKUCHCHIN), the powerful minister, the order on vehicles is to be funded by funds previously allocated for other projects in the budget. At the same time, there are numerous videos, and Anura Kumara has previously criticized this method of abusing funds as illegal. So the AKD regime is now being held accountable for doing the same thing as previous governments.
/
leelagemalli / November 23, 2025
OC and all other rational thinkers,
What they have said and argued today is clearly contradictory to what the AKD misled them about.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEKATjdSfKI
1) Abuse of budgetary allocations for other projects, such as Handunetti’s argument against AKD. Can you imagine?
2) People were turned into real DONKEYS by AKD rhetoric based on their outright lies. Today, they are on the verge of being stoned to death by the same people who turned out to be mobs similar to those in 2022. Our eyes would not believe it, but that will be the next stage of the tide. The Land of Modayas will sink further, slapping them again to fall further.
I believe it is past time to ask our pundits from Unawatuna (Douglas and his Kadamandiya people) for “Thanakola” and make them feel full, as they were the ones who were truly duped by JVP nitwits. Can JVPrs dare to hang THANAKOLA, which provoked yesterday’s rally, if the JVP-led government has been successful in walking their “big talks”?
/
Jit / November 23, 2025
“….It was no failure, considering the parties behind it secured only about 8% of the vote…..”
OC, I wonder how you connect those factors to such a conclusion. Why choose Nugegoda instead of Galle Face or another large venue if the government is truly unpopular? No one knows the exact attendance but estimates range from 5,000 to 20,000. Giving a precise figure seems irrational, as many in the original crowd dispersed once the alcohol wore off, leaving numbers nearly halved by the time Namal arrived.
It’s clear the attendees were either loyal party supporters or people drawn by incentives such as money, alcohol, and food. Judging by the behaviour seen in clips, I doubt most belonged to the former. Yes, people complain about the cost of living, and frustrations remain high, especially since the promised prosecutions of rogues from past regimes have not materialized. Yet almost all of those frustrations come from the 68 million who would not have attended the Nugegoda rally, despite dissatisfaction with the government.
One thing is evident: despite economic pressures, many are **not unhappy** with the ongoing war against the drug mafia and the shift toward a new political culture. That means Namal and his allies failed to attract those people, leaving their mission utterly unsuccessful.

Jit,
Are you absolutely sure there is a “war against the drug mafia” ?
I have my doubts. True, there are large quantities of stuff being displayed daily before TV cameras, but do you remember the 50 tons of “chemicals” in two containers displayed two months ago? They turned out to be harmless rocks, and nothing is said about them now.
The government must learn how not to overdo its publicity.

These good politicians have been telling the truth; if they had treated the north and east equally over the past 16 years, would the drug problem in that region of the country have increased that much? Not only are Sinhala politicians complicit in the mess this country has created, but Tamil and Muslim politicians are as well.

The answer to your first question is yes, and we dont have any evidence to prove it is like Tiran Deshabandu duo’s yukthiye meheyuma. Re your second question there is evidence given by the Govt Analyst it contains chemicals that can turn to make narcs. We dont have any reason not to believe them? Even if we give the benefit of doubt of that raid, can you keep highlighting one raid and ignore the the rest? Besides OC, dont you read details about loads of other raids that happen everyday? My only question about AKD’s war against drugs is why he did not declare ‘active’ death sentence to drug dealers??

Sri Lanka is a beast’s world. Those who once opposed the Rajapakses are now praising them and attempting to grow “Namala (the name of Rajapakshe’s 35-year-old son) – which means a normal popular flower in Sinhala language” today. There is also a stinky flower known to us as “KIDARAM MALA” in Sri Lanka.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnCnvW8VdBY To many, NAMALA was considered a KIDARAM MALA about 14 months ago. However, the stupid majority has reclassified him as a “Namala” as of today. Alas, Consider the future of this country.

Remember that in 2022, Rajakshes were discovered in a ship hidden for their own protection from mobs. They were able to save their lives thanks to the well-known scapegoat RW, and former President RW saved the country from becoming another Somalia in terms of economy. People aren’t thankful. They are hallucinated by the “Sadu-Sadu effect,” regardless of the truths that have been set aside. They really mean beasts in human disguise. LM,
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has obtained statements from 50 persons so far regarding the investigation into the alleged misuse of Rs. 16.6 million in state funds by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to attend his wife’s graduation ceremony at a UK university.
A CID team which is currently in the UK as part of this probe recorded statements from four staff members of the Sri Lankan High Commission in London this week. The team is due back in Sri Lanka tomorrow and are due to submit a report upon their return.
Now, a few very interesting questions. There are several members in this team, and they have spent more than a week in UK. Have they spent more than 16 million? If they have, what is the point of the inquiry? Should they be punished for wasting state funds?
If they haven’t, have they been sleeping on railway platforms ?
/
leelagemalli / November 23, 2025
OC,
I do not believe that the former president’s stay was unlawful, as I have known from the start. We are particularly suspicious of AKD*’s trip to Germany at the beginning of this year and the expenses incurred by the government using taxpayer money to enable AKD to meet only their supporters, who are Sri Lankan refugees. It was never described as a “official visit” by the state president of Sri Lanka in German news broadcasts. This was a massive theft of funds. Later on, we can definitely hang the bugger. I’ll do everything I can to help with that.
Additionally, Bikuchchin, also known as Handunetti, discusses purchasing double taxis for ministers while allocating funds for other projects by the 2025 budget. We will be closely monitoring THAMBUTHEGAMA Pingona’s efforts (Given the way he currently governs the country, this phrase accurately describes the type of unsuccessful leaders. ) to apprehend former leaders, as this is completely unlawful. I don’t mind if they seize Rajapkashe’s wealth, but I completely oppose harming RW and his honorable wife, Prof. Maithree Wickramasinghe.

OC,
So far, whatever the NPP government started has backfired. Remember Rohitha’s rocket issue and Sajith Premadasa’s academic credentials? The premier has yet to issue a rebuke on the rocket issue.
Similarly, I have no doubt that it is difficult to corner RW on their baby-like rule. ANURA kumara would have been more appropriate for a roadside kiosk than a country. The past 14 months have demonstrated this to the world. We are not alone; the entire world is cirtiicizing them today. Indians and Chinese are in the lead. What investments did they make during the previous year? Why didn’t the FOREX reserves increase from 6.0 billion USD to 8 billions USD during his corruption-free government, when everything was saved compared to many previous governments?
/
SebastianSR / November 24, 2025
The NPP/JVP has to show that it is taking action against corruption. They claimed they had files of data on the “Dhanapathi” MPs, and that as soon as they are in power, 97% of the 225 MPs would be put in Jail for past corrupt practices, while the 3% (the JVP) that represent the “Peeditha” (oppressed) classes” will become an example. Rajapaksas were said to have filthy lucre in Uganda, Seychelles etc. Now, the NPP is “delivering” on their promise by investigating Ranil (for something trivial, to put him off the hook). They can still boast that all are equal under the NPP law. They are spending much, ‘investigating. When the next government comes, they can investigage the NPP, the 31 containers that were illegally feleased etc. It is an on-going job. They arrested Rajitha, Keheliya but the clever crooks are always out of reach.
/
leelagemalli / November 24, 2025
who is speaking out today about the illicit wealth that JVP-rascals have amassed over the years by deceiving their supporters?
The country would be able to see it clearly if the opposition could track it down by looking through the financial reports and yearly tax payments of MINISTER WASANTHA SAMARASINGHE and a few others.
Why don’t they do it now? Is there insufficient evidence to imprison them?
–
People in our nation are easily taken advantage of by anyone. Before asking them to cast a ballot, that needs to be addressed.
And whose funds are being misused for the JVP party secretary’s trip to London this week?

Jit / November 24, 2025
I agree with you it is a stupid idea to send a team to UK where the evidence could have recorded by our defense attache in the HC, although the sum spent on 5 investigators may cost less than 10% of what RW spent on this tiki tour.

Jit,
According to AI, “So, combining accommodation and meals, the total average cost for a week in a 3-star hotel with 3 meals a day in London would be approximately:
Accommodation: £1,050
Meals: £210 to £350
Total: £1,260 to £1,400″
That would be about 2.5 million LKR spent for 5 people. Add on another 1.5 million for airfares. Let’s not talk about stuff like “batta”, taxis and transport.
Rather like the Customs officers paying themselves more than than they pay the government from penalties.

There is nothing you to do about this meeting. Make sure that all those criminals who took racism and religious violence as the weapon should not come inside the NPP. “Make sure that all those criminals who took racism and religious violence as the weapon should not come inside the NPP.”
Are you sure that the NPP was not founded on “religious” violence, where their religion came from Marxism? Do you think that unquestioning ideological mindsets of Marxist fanatics like Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Wijeweera, with their “manthrams” saying “the end justifies the means”, “by the ballot if not by the Bullet” etc., are not violence driven by religious fervour? Ethno-religious violence of the orthodox kinds have segregated into the TNA, NTP, TMK etc. on the Tamil side, or in SarvaJanaBalya, BoduBalaSena, etc. The main “national” parties, PoduJana (Naamal), SamagiJana (Premadasa), SLFP, UNP are oppotunistic parties with a basic substratum of racism. The JVP supported the SLFP under Mahinda, and the UNP under Ranil in their racist agendas. It is the NPP part of the JVP that is most racist, while the JVP part is the most religious (Marxist opium).

Dye-Myna, aka Tilvin Silva (70 years old), secretary of the brutal JVP organization who was later imprisoned for many years for high crimes, makes ridiculous statements before diaspora people in London.
Even though their blatant lies cannot be continued, they do. Why ? I wonder if they think people are much more stupefied than they appear to be. Imagine Bimal Rathanayaka (Sabanayaka), who should have been imprisoned for his container-release issue, treating the opposition leader and MPs today… this is a violation of fundamental parliamentary procedures.
–
All of TILVIN trip and other dramas is just to serve as a red herring and proof material to keep the nation under their leadership while their popularity is rapidly declining after a wasteful year.

L M ,
Your last three lines , the truth is the day they , the JVP
gave up arms and chose to face it with ballots and won
it , everything started to change . They learnt the tricks
better than the specialists . Specialists were ready to face
LTTE bullets but not JVP ballots . JVP learnt to run with
the flow and the Specialists knew this is coming but
were helpless to stop it because they were living with a
small circle . They begged for one term and here we go .
The country had no alternative either , falling down and
only pieces were being picked up . Consolidating one’s
power is one part of the game , everybody knows it but see
who is trying to block it ? Namal ? The man who failed to
question Gota over his funding of Raapaksha memorial site
in Hambantota ! Not enough for him to be ignored ?

The Minister of Industries has been implicated. In a video that focuses on “illegal container release,” his voice is becoming audible. I believe that it is imperative that lawyers and other professionals in this country step up to save the country. According to Tamil MP Arjuna’s revelation from the Tamil diaspora, Bimal Rathanayaka and AKD may have released “illegal weapons” from Sri Lankan harbor.

What we need right now is a third party. We need a party in opposition to play the role the JVP played, for the NPP- expose both the government and the main opposition. People may have laughed at them, but the Jeppas are the reason we didn’t slide into a cycle of anarchy after the aragalaya. You see this problem playing out now in both Bangladesh and nepal- everyone in their political system is tainted. There’s no one other than the same old crooks for people to choose between. All the more important that we recognize the vital role played by third parties in our political system, and as citizens step up and do it. At the last election I was really hoping Ambika’s party would win even one seat, but unfortunately they couldn’t. They’re the only ones I can see right now who advocate for matters even the NPP avoids. And I say this as an ardent NPPer- this lot needs to be held accountable to the people if we are to be a mature democracy, and the sajiths and namals of the world won’t do that. I’d do it myself if I was currently in the country.

Comparing humans to four-legged animals is quite primitive. However, their empty heads are filled with racism and how to behave better than others, both of which are characteristics of the animal’s early stages of evolution. Those who are physically strong remain in that selection process, while the weaker are marginalized. However, the notion that humans are the most intelligent living beings, behaving and emulating their animal progenitors, is beyond my comprehension. As I write this, the question that comes to mind is whether we are already civilized.

The Opposition’s “Pus Wedilla” – Nugegoda Meeting (Revised Summary)
The first lady speaker said that the NPP leader requires applicants to sit for an exam when applying for government jobs. Although she is against this system, having an exam is actually a good method to prevent bribery. If there are 5,000 applicants and only 200 vacancies, an exam ensures that those with the highest marks — whether from Pohottuwa, UNP, or NPP — will receive the job based on merit rather than political influence or money, unlike what happened under previous governments.
Harin Fernando was seen supporting Namal Rajapaksa, even though throughout his political life he strongly opposed Namal, who is accused of contributing to the country’s bankruptcy. Namal had arranged a planned group of supporters to gather around him while he was speaking.
Chamara Sampath Dassanayake said, “You accuse others of sending people in a blue van, but we will send them in a red van,” indicating that the NPP has a strict no-bribery policy — so how can he accuse them of such actions?
Namal Rajapaksa claimed he would topple the present government, even though he previously lied about his own educational qualifications. He is now calling the NPP liars, despite the fact that only one year has passed since they took office.

RBH59 ,
Are we Srilankans ? If so , Namal and Harin kind of guys are more
than enough ! For them , Nugegoda rally was oxygen . Who gives
them oxygen ? The same crowd that stopped Bandas and Senanayakas .
Is it not JRJ economy that all these guys are fighting to carry forward ?
So , system change is a lie ? Old guys were replaced and that’s it . Old guys
were experienced and slow and the new ones are Learning To Be Old at
tax payer expense . L boards are on the road , have your emergency numbers
handy . Sinhala Avurudu Still has Kiribath , Kavum and Kokis . People are
same as this too .

“President Premadasa was rattled; later, his responses to the subsequent DUNF action were measured and brutal. He did not last more than one year after the meeting. “
Was there a connection between the two?
The readers I hope are a little too bright for this kind of cheating.
/
RBH59 / November 22, 2025
I am sure because having a formal exam provides a transparent and measurable way to select candidates based on merit rather than personal influence or payments. It reduces opportunities for bribery, as success depends on performance rather than connections.”
/
SJ / November 23, 2025
My question concerned how ‘having an exam is actually a good method to prevent bribery’.
Examinations are just as vulnerable to dishonest practices as any other formal procedure. I know of mark books that have been fiddled, of answer scripts that have been tampered with, of bogus entries in mark sheets— and that culprits got away with it.
*
And you may have heard of marks being awarded for unmarked answer script bundles.

Namal, the Internet Would Be President is trying to remain visible and relevant.
All party organizers are demanded to bring several bus loads with a bribe of Rs. 5000, booze, food and a joy ride to Colombo.
That said, the crowds were a total disappointment.
Worst is that Nama did not offer any alternate policies to challenge AKD. Just the same old same old!
Thank god less Lankans are eating grass now. 😂😂

Nathan,
Every teenager understands that the lanken voter base is divided into a few groups: 3 main groups -these are Rajapakshes (6.8 millions) , JVP (0.5 million), and UNP-SJB (5.5 millions).
And it was not overlooked; all of those who voted for Gotabaya in 2019, also voted for the AKD-led NPP in 2024.
The majority of them are Rajapakshe-stupid voters – a leading portion of them are so called “sinhala buddhists”.
If anyone noticed among those who attended the Nugegoda rally on November 21, a large portion of them were Rajapakshe voters.
That is why many people believe Namal Baby Rajapakshe will be the next president, rather than the SJB led by Sajith Premadasa. Sajith was resuscitated from his coma situation yesterday and admitted to have made a big mistake.
Did not you know that? Cheers !

Mr Nathan,
Please direct your funds to Maharagama Cancer Hospital. That is worth more than betting on anything. I do it to many people when I visit my mother’s grave every year. The Sadu-Sadu effect has made people even poorer, and we know that the country is a long way from realizing where the germ is. Regardless of race, religion, or other barriers, people in that country are consistently misled. They are not trained to see it beyond, or better said, to work on the question “why”.

I was present at the ‘ Maha Jana Rally’ that was to demand and compel the NPP Government to fulfil the ‘Promises’ made in their manifesto of 2024.
I had some ‘Hope’ when a young lady commenced her speech. She was referring to the problems faced by the youth and was critical of the performance of the PM, Harini, and the Minister of Child Care, Paul Raj. Unfortunately, the ‘Animal’ inside her ‘Self’ jumped out in trying to refer to the ‘Ranband’s Kolla’ (AKD), who had introduced a ‘Competitive Test’ for those (Graduates) seeking employment. ‘Ranbanda'( a labourer of the Survey Department) was the name of the father of AKD. Immediately, on hearing that referral ‘Ranbanda’s Kolla’, my mind rattled off to Germany, where one of our ‘Erudite’ commentators lives, who coined a similar term on ‘AKD’, ‘Thambuthegama Burampi’. ‘Great Minds’ think alike.
One person (looks elderly) standing next to me, on hearing ‘Ranband’s Kolla’ spat out and said, ‘ Thook Nodokin’ ( a show of disgust and condemnation). I spoke to him and was surprised to know his name is also ‘Ranbanda’ from Kurunegala, who had arrived in Nugegoda in one of the ‘Bus Convoyes’ provided free. What Other Things were ‘Handouts’ I didn’t hang on with him to explore?

II – The rest of the speakers, as usual, were dismal failures. What else other than ‘BS’ could be expected from Gamanpila, Lawyer Dolawatte (who looked drunk, observed from the delivery style), and another (I forget name), who was the former ‘Private Secretary to Gotabahaya. His speech focused on the ‘Danger’ to the ‘Sinhala Buddhists’ under the NPP, who are ‘Atheists’. Namal Rajapakse, the ‘Crown Prince,’ was the last speaker. Needless to say, what he could have done better.
Of special reference was Harin Fernando, who was supposed to read out a ‘Special Message’ from Ranil Wickramasinghe of the UNP. He pulled out a paper and showed it as the written message from Ranil W, and said, “I am not going to read this, because of a lack of time, but instead I will make my speech.” It was, again, usual ‘Garbage’.
In conclusion, I didn’t get what I expected (the failure in fulfilling the promises made by NPP) but an ‘INDUCTION CEREMONY’ to install Namal Rajapakse as the next ‘President’, who will take over at any moment( the Opposition will engineer) the NPP Government falls.
To me, it was an ‘Episode’ replay of ‘Vinoda Samaya’ – A CLOWNISH PLAYLIST.

Dear Readers,
I believe NPP supporters underestimated yesterday’s rally, which was organized by government opponents from a variety of parties, including the SLPP. I hope the NPP learns from their mistakes instead of continuing to attack their opponents. If they had done their jobs properly, no opponents would have risen against them so early on. Isn’t that so? Artist Sangeeth Wijesooriya frustratedly questioned what they had done in the previous 12 months, even if they had made lofty promises about enacting or reforming drug trafficking laws; if confiscated, they should be destroyed in front of the masses to give them the impression that they are now in safe hands. Nothing like that has happened yet today… Is that the system change people expected…?

there are credible reports that back up what some believe that yesterdays rally agianst NPP govt is successful.

“ the people must be right when they are confronted with the alternatives thrown at them by the national conversation.”
When one talks about “ the people”
does it mean only the Sinhala Buddhists???
This THE problem of the country.
Without any considerations of what the minorities had been facing in SL, the NPP government can not take any progressive step.
SLPP is trying to plant a seed that will develop in to a huge tree in the form of
President Namal Rajapaksa in 5/10/15 years. Remember how Marcos junior became the President of Philippines.
AKD needs to wean off the ex-defence officials for the government jobs and rely on SLAS officials for the high posts.
I am surprised that NPP government didn’t change the “ constitutional Council” members after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections. They were just behaving like for any decision made by the government of the past. I wonder whether they have included one or two from the minorities parties. Either Kajan P or Chanakiyan R should be in the CC.

It is HEARTBREAKING to see how both the government and opposition politicians are making use of Buddhist priests in their political campaigns or official functions.
This should CEASE if the country has to progress. The Lord Buddha did not advocate violence against any human beings or animals. It is sad that REAL Buddhism is not being followed in SL since the Independence. Had it been so our motherland won’t be in this pathetic condition making mother Lanka as a Bhikkuni carrying the begging BOWL!
I like the way how the current Governor of the Northern region has pulled up the high officials + the NGOs in the government + non governmental service are just warming their seats without much productive work.
Should not the National Audit Commission have an eye on it?

The sight of hundreds of drunken sots and the heavily armed civilians protecting the newly anointed Crown Prince at the farcical Nugegoda rally, should serve as a stark reminder to all right-thinking citizens of what is to come if there is a regime change in Sri Lanka anytime soon.

Pundit,
Were not the same people who turned into mobs and cornered the Rajapakshes in an escape ship in July 2022?
*
Were not the same people who crowned THAMBUTHEGAMA KADALA monger, who is now speechless in front of the same people while acting as a saviour in front of his parliamentary members?
*
AKD has proven to be at a crossroads today…. whether you like it or not, that is reality. His leadership, along with Premier HA, is highly questionable today, as singer Sangeeth Wijesooriya stated to the press a few days ago.
