The Terrifying Rajapaksa Legacy Will Destroy The Sinhalese Buddhists Of Sri Lanka!

By Sharmini Serasinghe

Sharmini Serasinghe

The leader of a nation is like a parent to one’s children. The children emulate the examples set by the parent, for better or for worse. The morally upright parent sets morally upright examples and standards and ensures the children abide by them.

What happens when the leader/parent is immoral, unethical and unprincipled? Obviously, the children/citizens, especially the young and impressionable will naturally follow the examples set by the leader/parent. And they too become immoral, unethical and unprincipled, just like their leader/parent.

This unfortunately is what has happened to an entire generation of the Sinhalese Buddhists of this country, including the academically qualified and some amongst the senior generations, as well as the Buddhist clergy, during and after the decade Mahinda Rajapaksa was the Parent of our Nation. An entire generation and more of Sinhalese Buddhists fell victim to Mahinda Rajapaksa’s self- serving political machinations and thus, on the path to self-destruct.

How did Mahinda Rajapaksa set about doing this?

He did it with his endearing but questionable charm, oratorical and acting skills and his folksy appeal, to brainwash the impressionable young minds and quit a few of the unenlightened gullible seniors with, “I won the War” mantra. The brainwashing was so intense and cunning, his victims never realised and still don’t, what was done to them.

Since then, it has not yet dawned on them and may never will as to WHO exactly won the war against the LTTE in 2009. It is obvious to the rest of us that it was the Tri-Forces of our country and those amongst them who gave their life and limb for our motherland who are the true victors of the war and NOT Mahinda Rajapaksa.

So, what exactly was Mahinda Rajapaksa’s role in this victory? He simply granted carte blanche to the Tri-Forces to end the war. Like ancient Kings of yore did he lead his armies to war? NO he did not! Was he even in the country when the war concluded? NO, he was not!

So, how exactly and what moral right has Mahinda Rajapaksa got, to claim to be the sole victor of the war against the LTTE? How must those comrades of the fallen heroes of the tri-forces who saw their own killed and wounded in battle feel, when all the glory of the war victory has been hijacked by a single individual, who never set foot on the battlefield- Mahinda Rajapaksa? Will his brainwashed victims amongst the Sinhalese Buddhists ever realise this?

Thanks to Mahinda Rajapaksa, the moral degradation amongst an entire brainwashed generation of Sinhalese Buddhists including the Buddhist clergy has become a cancer in our society, the virulency of which is extremely evident especially on the streets and on social media today. This scourge will be immensely challenging to eradicate in a democracy, and I dread to think what extreme measures might have to be enforced to stop this virulent societal cancer from spreading.

These young victims of Rajapaksa’s racist and immoral ideology – the future generation of our country – with an all too visible lack of morality and integrity, will undoubtedly end up as utter misfits and frustrated failures in society, if not stopped in their tracks right now. This will not only be for their own good, but for the future of our country as well.  Though some are armed with academic qualifications, this alone does not make a well-rounded educated person, given the quality of our education system today. And these facts, this particular generation is not aware of, as there is no one to teach them ethics in an ethically bankrupt society.

Together with the Rajapaksas, the blame for this must also be laid fairly and squarely at the feet of the Buddhist clergy-  Mahanayakes down. In all honesty, what moral purpose do they serve society today?

How many amongst our Buddhist clergy today regards a monk’s primary role as one to teach the Buddhist philosophy- the Dhamma to the laity?  How many amongst our Buddhist clergy today live an exemplary life to guide the laity? How many amongst our Buddhist clergy today live an austere life focused on the Dhamma, meditation and the observance of good moral character?

Unfortunately, they are few and far between. The rest simply masquerade as Buddhist monks contributing their might through the saffron robe, to propagate the Rajapaksa Sinhala-Buddhist racist ideology. And as long as the Mahanayakes of their respective chapters look the other way, they too can be deemed as being complicit in the treachery and ultimate downfall and extinction of the Sinhalese Buddhists of Sri Lanka.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, ably supported by the Buddhist clergy has set the course for the Sinhalese Buddhists of Sri Lanka to self-destruct!

Sharmini, you ask ‘Like ancient Kings of yore did he lead his armies to war’? And you answer, ‘NO he did not’! I agree. Mahinda is a big coward and built an underground bunker in the Presidential Palace to hide while his troops as well as the civilian population of both sides took all the risks.

Mahinda is a big coward. Why do I say that? Brave men face facts and never go to such lengths to hide from risks and repercussions as he does while the followers are exposed to harm. Even his child caring act is just an act. Women are hired to carry babies in their arms and be there in the front of the supporters wherever he goes. He touches and sometimes carries these disinfected children and fondles them, all the time taking care not to over do it. But one can see in his eyes the how much he dislikes them.

Recently, I saw video footage of a visit he made to the Bodhy Tree in Anuradapura. There were some women carrying babies and they were saying ‘You are our only King!’ It looked so synthetic. Wonder how much they were paid.

“I agree. Mahinda is a big coward and built an underground bunker in the Presidential Palace to hide while his troops as well as the civilian population of both sides took all the risks.”

So was your leader Thiruvengadam Velupillai Prabaharan did build underground bunker.

“Women are hired to carry babies in their arms and be there in the front of the supporters wherever he goes.”

While men, women, children and the old were being butchered and minced by Sri Lankan armed forces VP used them as human shield. What a coward? Then he surrendered and subjected himself being tortured by the Sri Lankan state torture experts.

It is absurd to argue whatever you say right or wrong as victors and pro-government media distorted news and publish.

Will anyone agree that LTTE was a product of Sinhala Buddhist racism, hooliganism, state terrorism and abuses? Many Tamils fled Ceylon during and after 1956 riots and one of them, Late Ambalavanar Sivananthan, who married to a Sinhalese while in Sri Lanka, later Director of Race Relations in the UK and one of the most recognized and talented fighter for equality. Eelam Tamils who fled to Singapore has become Global leaders while Sri Lanka was bleeding at the hands of Sinhala Buddhist racist leaders. Late Lee Kuan Yew has written in his book “the Hard Truths” about Tamils, their dedication and determination as well as branded Rajapakse as an Extremist.

Tamils claim that Prabaharan’s time there was no or low violence but it exploded as no more LTTE. Tamils are demanding for an International Independent Investigation not only to seek Justice and Accountability but also put to end calculated and malicious Sinhala Buddhist racist propaganda against Tamils, LTTE and their actions.

        Native Vedda,
Yes. VP did build underground banker but almost all the civilians were lived under bunkers for a long period. I don’t know what happened in the last phase of the war. I am sure you also don’t know what happened in the last phase. According to Govt, Pirabhaharan and his whole family lost their lives in the war field during the war. Don’t compare Mahinda with VP.

This is one of the good articles I have ever read on the web since then.
      :
But I also want to add few things to this. It was not only he spread lies to have his magical powers liberated the country from long standing war, but also he let artists and other prominent personalities in the country to brainwash the people about his mantra. It is almost like a SOUL based HINDI film would go viral in Indian 1300 million. subcontinent, rajapakshe lies cemented his blatant lies SPECIALLY in rural mind set. Of coruse almost everyone of them are BORN buddhists.
      :
Also, not restrict to BUDDHISM, but also he manipullated the mind set of other religious leaders such as Malcom Ranjith targeting katholic community – who is obvioiusly fallen intoxicated by Rajapapakshe mantra as no others today.
      .
Rajapakshe ‘s was not talented at spreading his lies that way, but his siblings and kith and kin worked together fooling entire nation. That unqualified Rajapakshe cousins are reported to have looted huge sums but these were not in local news. Today, entire world is well aware of the Rajapakshe high crimes, but locals are caught by their mantra, even more than had ever been before.
      :
Yet today, PEOPLE would not FEEL that any kind of PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENTs in the country are financed by the state. Not just SRILANKA, but also any other developing countries do have such developments. Most of them seem to know those are from the funds of people. But our People are made to believe, Rajapakshe MAGICs brought high ways into reality – to tell you, one 60 year old retired teacher, while driving on SOUTHERN HIGHway, argued ” it is really a wonder of RAJAPAKSHE to have allowed the kind of high way” as if the kind of public servants too were misled by falsehoods on the subjects.

War never won. The problem is simmering beneath us. To call it a win must find a solution to the problem that gave rise to the war.

Buddhist clergy and their place given in lanken society has been instrumental any highly abusive politicians of Rajapakshe style to promote racism.
      .
I heard BUDDHIST CLERGY role in lanken politics is like a role of an icing set on a heap of ASUCHI -excreta.
      .
Rajapakshe is well talented at foolign the nation. This continues so long BLACK media is handled by him.
      .
As we know,. Lankens are a predominantly buddhist nation. So, the message would go to every corners of the country, if Rajapakshe would keep on worshiping to DALADA MALIGAWA or ABHAYARAMA to the frequeny sometimes MORE THAN he is used to go to his toilet.
      .
Like for example, you can rape a woman keeping her IN A TEMPLE premises, so long impunity as BUDDHIST monks would be above the place given to the law and order inthe society.
      :
Rajapakshe ‘s face is not yet clear to anyone, not even to his family.
      .
Rajapakshe is a shameless criminal by every means. I happened to study his behaviour during the BRAWL went on in the parliament. We saw his grins and mimics whispering his loyalists on very moment – actively adding fuel to the burning incident. Just to attack a colleague who is even elder than him – Karu Jayasooriya the incumbent speaker of the parliament is over 78year while Rajapakhe is just 74. However, the message the bugger Rajapakshe passed being passive in that moment, instead being a spectator of the brutal brawl being continued by his loyalists was BEYOND all ethics and morals.
      :
He knew if one single word came up as a command to those rascal loyalists, it could easily have been stopped and the image lanka maintained as one of the oldest democracies in asia could be protected. .But his malice and viciousness were overflown in his person so that he could not see it right.

Sharmini, I admire you coming out and taking on, not only MR but the Buddhist clergy. But I think the decline of the moral and the true religion started way before, and during MR ,s time it just went downhill. In US we already know how Junior Bush and Moron Trump evaded draft by medical excuses and later went on to claim as victors of hard earned war, which are solely due to sacrifice of servicemen/women.(the politicians if at all made it worse by their wrong policies). Even then, US citizens will not allow these politicians to take their religion down. But in Lanka the public is in denial and enabling these fraudsters. . They readily accept and oblige the orders of their masters. What is dictated is the new religion and morality of Lanka.

The Buddhist clergy was involved in every pogrom I had witnessed(aware of) in Lanka since 1954. Interesting one article addresses fraud Cardinal by Shyamon and this one from Shamini exposes the clergy. I wrote else where the new name should be Pseudo Lanka. Currently more pseudos and less of reals. ( among public, politicians, religious heads, media, nationalism, patriotism…..etc…..etc)

Dear Sharmini Serasinghe. You have joined the ranks of courageous writers ready to undress the Emperor.
“Thanks to Mahinda Rajapaksa, the moral degradation amongst an entire brainwashed generation of Sinhalese Buddhists including the Buddhist clergy has become a cancer in our society, the virulency of which is extremely evident especially on the streets and on social media today. This scourge will be immensely challenging to eradicate in a democracy, and I dread to think what extreme measures might have to be enforced to stop this virulent societal cancer from spreading.” Very accurate analysis. Our traditional media writers are scared unlike you and me.
You are right; Mahinda stole the war victory whereas what he did was to give supplies and support. That had been done by all previous governments. For Mara’s luck, 9/11 came and the global leaders went all out to support our government in eradicating terror. We had a smart Army Commander who gave battle leadership.MR/ Gota jailed him.

      Mr Jayasinghe,
      .
We highly respect both of your and your fearless efforts undressing the brutal nature of Rajaapakshes.
      :
But what I question myself again and again, even if Basil and Gota as US citizens actively create problems in our home country, nothing seems to work on them either of the sides why ?.
Like for example ITN protests – being organized by Basil TODAY as my info are concerned, but what do US embassy say ?
      .
We the one living Europe can go to US embassy and ask the legality of a dual citizen of GOTA and Basil – but that would not bring much. :
      :
According to American law, they should both be punished as nothing can reverse as my american colleague acknolwedge.

      Shyamon Jayasinghe & Sharmini Serasinghe

I am sorry to disagree with both of you.
The Hindians helped VP to win the war for Mahinda who was allowed to exclusively claim all the glory of winning the war. Little people needed something to be claimed their own. Hindians let him gloat about the war for about five years.

Please go back to early 2005 when Hindians had already decided to put an end to VP and his LTTE. They persuaded Chandrika to go for full scale war against LTTE, and promised A to Z , and did deliver everything the army needed, including training, military advisors on the ground, quarterly loans (grant) through various export financing schemes, intelligence from spy in the sky, diplomatic cover, ……… patrol ships, Military helicopters, …. destruction of LTTE’s warehouse ships,….

HIndians for their own domestic reasons have been reluctant to disclose the extent of their involvement.

The Sri Lankan historians being little islanders will never have the honesty and dignity to record what exactly happened between 1981 and 2009, especially between early 2005 and 2009.

MR MS RW should be thrown out lock stock and barrel. Not even Sajith because he is too close to media tycoons and he will dance according to there agenda eg Killi, Tiran and Dilith.

To make war you need atleast two sides with vastly different view points. For this you need the help of the mass media.

Both sides have to be financed by many businesses because the war demands heavy expenses.

To buy weapons the government needs hefty loans. The rebels get them for free by the same companies government buy the weapons from.

The banks control when to fight and when to have peace talks through controlling the funding.

Rajapaksha found a way to by pass this system with the help of Lybian late leader Gaddafi.

Without this, very secretive operation we would have never finish the War.

I’m definitely grateful to Mahinda for that. The corruption made by him, was too great to even consider to forgive.

      No Suranga G,
      .
what have you been bubbling.? It was not that pragmatism of Rajapakshe eleminated terror in the country, but multiple factors – converged within LTTE itself missing their leaders one behind the other. by 2006. Also not forgetting the collectivity in the country (please study the videos of Dr Amila thero he had been encouraging lankens to that time) grew in the country. Rajapkashe was in the opinion that the war can only be brought to end through politicial discussions as had been the case with his predecessors. That was also fine.
      :
And dont underestimate the greater services done by Late Mr Kadirgamar as CBK s FM to that time. His cleverness paved the way any rich soils in Europe, America and all other continents to ban LTTE criminal acts incl. mobilisation. Also India woke up by achievements of Mr Kadir.
      :
And how can a man who lived exile for a period of 15 years to know it better than an Army general who actively participated in any offecived launched against LTTErs. I mean how can Gotabaya to know it better about ground handling tactics than SF ?.
      :
All these were brought by Pro-Rajapakshe Propaganda machines. Even today, those MEDIA units work proactivily, that is why EVEN if the govt was robbed by MR et al during that 52 d coup, nevertheless local media would NOT utter anything against them yet today.

        Dear Mr Gunawardhana,

Many thanks for explaining your view.

        I don’t disagree with you.
What I meant was the grip of the system is not a petty issue to handle.

Most leaders before Rajapaksha era did their best for Lanka, keeping aside the corruption.

Rajapaksha too came with good intentions. His timing was good because USA and allies had too many things to handle.

The issue is the level of corruption and violence he presented was unbearable.

But he definitely had good ties with Gaddafi and he gave money to Pakistan and we got the weapons.

The West knew we did only have supplies for 3 months to continue the war.

That’s why international pressure came too late.

          0

No doubt about the the ties him to have maintained with Lybia and the like minded countries, but that was certainly not that deep. I have got some lybian doctors that explain to me lately. However, our so called beloved leader wanted to stand out showing that he is ANTI West. That did not bring though much by end of 2014.
          :
Rajapakshe was not an intelligent leader. He is the most naive leader the lanka ever produced. He is the one who is easily caught by chinese tricks. But for a person of his profile he could do easily. As you said above, he had the luck in his term to reap the harvest and mislead the grass eaters yet today. So calle war victory I dont think gave a licence him to revenge on the people in our poor country. He should see it right LET alone today.
          :
Just focus on the issue – being unquestionably caught by debt trap of CHINESE – that alone says everything about RAJAPAKSHE ADMINISTRIATION. Srilanka is now known to the world as the 5th Debt chinese trap – not being able to pay the HUGE loans back. Who would suffer ? the majority innocient people or not ?
          :
CB of the coutnry now releases about the size of the huge sums we the country has to pay off 2019. This is going to be doubleshock to the tiny economy.
That is over 5000 million of US dollars. But today we have been ranked to B2 considering lanken corruption levels.
          :
Please compare ANGOLA and its chinese investment – there average people earn not even 2 dollars/day – but chinese investment brought them high tech cities. Inflation has gone sky rocketting levels. Lately, withthe dollar becomign stronger and stronger, their inflation rates grow even more. Those people suffer a lot today( always focus on the average), but a tiny portion of rich people abuse them. :

Economy is like a pie. If you get greedy and eat more the others will have less. This is the reason for economic disparity.

Added to this, when we have politicians like this the situation becomes worse.

Question is are we greedy or not? I say all of us are to a certain degree.

It’s a known fact that many businesses are evading taxes using the loopholes of taxation laws.

How can you claim only a few rich people are corrupt?

Facts about Angola and Chinese invasions are true.
It’s going to get worsened if Rajapaksha comes to power.
            No arguments for that.

Democracy is the political arm in a capitalist system.

Doesn’t matter who comes to power until the people actively seek a solution to reduce economic disparity we will continue to go backward.

SLFP or UNP cannot and will not reduce or try to reduce the gap.

My suggestion is also to concentrate on the average. Strengthen the middle class in every way you can.

In Sri Lanka the middle class has allready diminished or almost.

No means Rajaakshes should COME to power as lanken leaders. Much is done by them so as nothing can help them reverse easily. They are talented at their pocket fillings tactics. That shoudl be in their genes.
              :
Not we the lankens, but AMERICANS found his FIRST COUSIN-JALIYA W who was the former ambassador to the US- had been filed cases for various crimes in the US. That is forever – a srilanken diplomat is fallen that deep.
              :
And the other MR cousin or who had been the former Ambassador to Russia/Ukraine is charged and blocked off in Dubai or so – for the SIMILAR kind of high crimes.
              :
His sons have been alleged and filed for high crimes.
              :
His wife will have to be interrogated for the BRUTAL murder of Thadjudeen.
              :
All in all even their domestic pets were caught by HIGH crimes.
              :
What all these say – ABOUT Rajakashes – They are HIGH CRIMINALS by every means.

Definitely not Rajapaksha or one of his family members again.

Most of them should be sent to jail.

Ultimately our goal is to steer our mother Lanka towards prosperity and peace.

Getting UNP into power will only stop Rajapaksha and his thugs.

Which is good but to achieve peace we need to give some justice to the poor and strengthen the middle class.

For this we need to make pressure as citizens, so that one day, atleast after 10 years we will breed a good brand of politicians.

Otherwise UNP will continue to make chaos.

We will only win the battle but not the war.

    Shamini:

In my view it is too little too late. Mahintha was a creation of Sinhaese tyranny unleashed on Innocent Tamils which created LTTE. Dont blame the LTTE for all the evils. We killed to SURVIVE but your so called Heros killed for a LIVING and the countless number of Skeletons is a testimony to this.

My dear you are wrong in your analysis.

” The terrifying Mahintha Legacy” wont destroy the Buddhists of Sri Lanka because through Mahintha ( their patron) they have a vibrant audience. They will survive dont worry. But what Manhinthas Legacy has destroyed is Sinhala Lankas SOVEREIGNTY. Indian Warships are now constantly patrolling Sri Lankan waters and have you ever given any thought to that. She feels threatened by Mahintha and MS leasing Ports and Air Ports to China . Some papers refer to China as a neighbour and their heads need to be examined.

Everthing I have predicted so have so far turned out to be true.

    Just look at the following.

“Jaliya asked to spill beans on Rajapaksas in US plea deal”

Gotha recently retorted who Lasantha is . Dont worry Gotha you are still an American Citizen and when you are recalled you can identify who Lasantha is and who killed him. Justice will be meted when you face a Jail term. Man it is TERRIFYING when you are in an America Jail as there are hardened Criminals and I am sure some of them would have heard about GENOCIDE.

Did MR REALLY Win the War? Let’ s examine the Facts.

Till 2004, LTTE had Absolute control of both the North and the East of the country and the ground situation changed considerably thereafter due to the following reasons..

    1. The Eastern Commander of the LTTE, Karuna defected in March 2004. The UNP was
in power then and the defection was facilitated by Deputy Minister Ali Zahir
Mowlana. Karuna’s intimate knowledge of LTTE Deployments in the East proved
Extremely Valuable to the Forces to gradually weed out the LTTE from the EAST
and begin the Final Assault in July 2006 which ended in July 2007 forcing the
LTTE out from the entire East.

    2. The Tsunami in Dec. 2004 almost wiped out the powerful LTTE Sea Tigers who
were giving a hard time to the Military, particularly the Navy. The Tsunami
changed all that making things that much easier for the Forces, particularly the
    Navy to operate more forcefully.

    3. During this period, the Weapons supply to the LTTE from India was also severely
disrupted with the Indians tipping off the Navy about the vessels carrying
weapons to the LTTE which were interdicted.

    4. The Eviction of the LTTE from the East in 2007 made it easy for the Military to
concentrate ALL its resources in the North, with a top Commander like General
Sarath Fonseka in charge, thus freeing the North in 2009.

M.R. became President in Nov. 2005 and he could have contributed nothing to the Military Operation to free the East that began months later in July 2006.
With the Ground Situation being what it was as described above, it wouldn’t have mattered who was the President or Defence Secretary.. M.R. was lucky to be there and he claimed all the credit with the Media fully supporting him.

M.R. being called “the War winning President” is Really a MYTH which needs to be Exposed for the Greater Good of the country.

  • 10

Thank you Sharmini for this excellent piece.Keep on exposing these imposters and see that your articles are published in the Sinhala media as well. Mahinda cannot take all the credit for defeating the LTTE militarily. The contribution made by one great true patriot , for this victory is often forgotten. This man was Lakshman Kadirgamer.. When the country was treated like a pariah by the international community after the July 1983 pogrom and due to the incessant propaganda carried out by LTTE, it was Kadirgamar who resurrected the image of the country to a respectable level and exposed the true nature of LTTE to the international community. Kadirgamer succeeded in creating good will and sympathy for Sri Lanka among world leaders to such a level countries like the USA and India were willing to help in the war effort. Defence Secretary at that time, Gotabhaya, has openly acknowledged the strategic help given given by these countries. For these countries to come to our rescue , appropriate ground work had been done by Kadirgamer. This ungrateful country never gave him the honour which he richly deserved. To be fair, President Kumaratunga wanted to appoint him as the PM. But the racists and chauvinists were opposed to this and made one them as PM. That person is Mahinda, who has chosen the Buddhist temples for his political propaganda, going about portraying himself as a great patriot and saviour of Buddhism. How long can this game go on? There has to be an awakening among the Sinhala Buddhists of this country to halt this march of folly and deception.

I should have added. Mahintha was not our father but Step Father . He married our mother (whoever that was) when our father died during independance( that was when Britain decided to give us to the Sinhalese). Living in the same household we were molested and subjected to incest. We were terroised and terrifyed.

Upali , you are absolutely right. “War is won by MR” sounds like Trump making a quick visit to Iraq during thanks giving to claim “US has won the war against ISIS”, soon after we hear there was a massive explosion in Afgan killing hundreds. Try telling this to Lankan retards.

Six Rajapakshas took control of many key positions in the country at the
invitation and influence of one Rajapaksha ! Two of them were in the U S
and returned to take up jobs they will never ever imagine elsewhere even
in dreams ! All Rajapakshas worked for RAJAPAKSHA logo of the company .
Like in some other countries in the region , we too still have FAMILY
POLITICS deep rooted in the system that is supported by the majority culture
and their religion ! INTERDEPENDENCE ! You scratch my back and I do yours !
You have no knowledge of SCRATCH TECHNOLOGY means you end up in a real
hell hole . The cult is turning out a massive trickery now , ONE WAY SCRATCH .
YOU SCRATCH and see STARS ! YOU CALL IT YAHAPALANAYA . No country has
developed in the world without turning the religion buzz low or next to nothing.
And only when this happens , the country sets its feet on the right path . Just a
few days back Ranil went to Kandy to reassure the Top Clergy that the priority
for Buddhism will remain untouched , Nobody asked anybody to downgrade it !
BUT THERE WAS A NEED FOR REASSURANCE ! That is a guarantee that stone
age will not disappear that easy even though country’s appearance will look
modern with roads and other construction works of massive borrowings ! Back
to Rajapaksha , I think it would be unfair to load all the rubbish on the back of
Rajapakshas as he does have his masters leading him from the graves ! Not one
or two but quite a few ! But it is true that he is the modern hero of revival of all
evils that are let lose under his careful watch . Good write up !

No President in recent history nor any Prime Minister has gone to fight in the trenches. This lickspittle MR hate is driven by CBK-RW type politics and claims to be a journalist. To my mind, a Journalist is like Iqbal Athas, TMK Samat, Mervyn DeSilva, Neville DeSilva, of national calibre. Being a newsreader by virtue of being gifted in speaking English doth not makest a journalist. Dayan claims to be an opinion maker. So does Jehan P and Sara etc. They are not intellectuals but opinion givers. MR gave carte blanche and CBK RW and all other FAILED t o do so; RW and his Ravi K, Mangy and Kariella types belittled Fonseka and his accomplishments on the battlefield./ Fonseka approached CBK for an extension and she contemptuously turned him down with insulting and accusatory words. A LEADER like MR and GR knew Fonseka was a hard tough smart General. They gave him the EXTENSION; not CBK; So get your facts straight. Did Bush-41 who served during WW_II go to Kuwait to do battle? Did Norman Schwarzkopf fight from the trenches? did Churchill fight? did Stalin fight? Your post 2015 bravado and brave posts are just that; jealous and hateful like a previous President. MR has and had many faults. Glad he LOST in 2015. If he gracefully retired, he would still be acknowledged by all as a hero like Churchill or like Bush 41. So thjis is all post 2015 January 8th bravado in opinions without facts. Lincoln fired and hired so many generals until he settled on drunkard who history will say was a great general, lousy president and a bad drunk. Fonseka knows how RW mistreated him when he was Jaffna commander and troops were not even given helmets, boots or ammunition for firing practices. CBK knew this but held him in great contempt. Danno Danithi. Like Lincoln whose sole determination was to save the Union, so did MR by getting SF into leadership.

Thanks Sharmini for your insights and writing.
Sri Lanka is bleeding today due Buddhist Chauvinism, involvement of Buddhist Monks in Politics, Sinhala Buddhist politicians who are not real leaders but they utter rhetoric, hatred, chauvinism, fear mongering in order to capture power due to their greediness and for the purpose of Good Governance. Many Sri Lanka media too collaborated to the chauvinism and state terrorism and the world knows the truth through WikiLeaks, political corruption to cover up oppression, war crimes and so on. This dubious and criminal mindset only helped to destroy harmony and prosperity of the nation.
Tamils who fled since 1950s are prospered in every field, academically, professionally in US, Canada, EU, UK, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Mauritius and so on. Sri Lanka’s state terror against Eelam Tamils has made Tamil Diaspora (total of about 100 million globally) more closer than ever before. FETNA and several other Tamil organizations globally bring Tamils more closer than ever before. Several Tamil Billionaires are created and dominating in the US are willing to assist whatever way they can to extend help to Tamils. Singapore has several Tamils are Ministers and regarded as leaders of modern world while Sri Lanka continue to have constitutional crisis, state oppression, potential war crimes and genocidal investigation more closer than ever as Tamil Diaspora will not let these war criminals go unpunished.
How long Sri Lanka Sinhala politicians and certain media can involve in malicious propaganda against Tamils’ freedom struggle and foolish ordinary Sinhalese and others failed to understand that part of Sri Lanka is pawned to China?
Ranil and Srisena are failed leaders and he cannot deliver Good Governance at all.

Sharmini Serasinghe you could type this diatribe [edited out] but Sinhala Buddhists are ever so grateful to Mahinda Rajapaksha not just for winning the for but for giving the disenfranchised Sinhalese of all religions a voice that could be heard over the cacophony of your mates’ nonsensical neoliberal chatter. The rise of the Buddhists clergy in this country is reactionary to the diatribe spewed by the likes of you, so please keep quiet for your own good.

      Brilliant neo history.
Add it to Mahawamsa, or perhaps Mahindawamsa.
Without beating around the bush why don’t you educate the people as to why this island needs a saffron Theocracy.

Ranil and Srisena are failed leaders and he cannot deliver Good Governance. Great Sinhala Journalists are attacked, tortured and murdered during Rajapakse regime but these alleged war criminals are free in the paradise Island Sri Lanka.

Tamils who fled Sri Lanka are enjoying freedom, democracy, Rule of law, Human rights in their new home countries that they could not enjoy in their native country. Western colonialism that merged Eelam with brutal Sinhala Land is responsible for Tamils’ sufferings as it should have separated prior to independence.

Do you think casting news or facilitate a discussion about a determined cause / social event is simple as declaring a war against a ruthless terrorist organization. you cannot hide in a bunker or trench after that. you have to provide necessary equipment and every thing possible to win the war for your troupes.
MR did that without the help of your democratic guardians of the west but the help of Chinese Russian & Pakistan even the help of Libyans important at the penultimate hour.
you are so proud of your ans esters but remember no patriotic Udarata Radalas were alive after 1818 insurgency only the henchmen who were elevated to be Rad-alas by British, giving the slain persons properties because of their treacherous acts & information help them to suppress the Welasse insurgency.
As for your information & names e mentioned about your pedigree can assume that too.
do not blame others or entire Buddhist monk hood for your personal grudge between a monk.

I don’t think you were in Sri Lanka in 1988-89 era when journalist were murdered & Kidnapped Monks were burned to death .
Be realist & don’t become an instrument of Mahedran type gentlemen.

    Shermini
Can you give one example where a leader of a country was fighting in front of a war with his soldiers. World war 1, 2 or any other war after that? In a government everybody has a task. Armed forces are trained to fight. Head of the country( who does not have a army training) does his role. People had their confidence on our security forces & governments. During 30 years of war our governments did not ask their people to eat buggery, not hold development, not stopped free education, free health facilities. Built roads, hospitals, universities, reservoirs etc etc. Tamils hit us nearly 30 years. Destroyed the country as much as they can. Faced to Tsunami, other environment disasters. When I went to India in 2008 seen the poverty there, lack of toilet facilities, clean water etc I thought Oh my God we are doing much better.

For those who supported Separatism as a solution ‘the war was not lost’. I do not support separatism + devolution as a solution nor do I have any other party politics.

The survivors that is ‘us’ wanted to appreciate the sacrifice by the LTTE children and the Armed forces too could have stood tall and worked with Hon MR to take the Country to greater heights then since 2009. Before and after was also possible but did not happen. Now this posturing by all parties in the interest of whom??

We got stuck in ‘War Crime’ and TNA got themselves back in the driving seat again with Devolution……..means all the sacrifices made earlier by us all was wasted. The fact of the matter is the country has learned the lessons the hard way and shedding identity politics is not a shame but a necessity to change the country………..after all the war was all about Justice?? Why is this not happening then is what one need to ask????

Since 1970 the JVP/TULF/Armed North/death/LTTE no more/TNA in action again now is 2019.

This discussion MR/MS/RW/……………….holding us all back from what???……..we need to sit down and have a different discussion……………..who is obstructing this unity is the problem?????

War crime investigations + constitutional assembly then we remove this and work our way through to get the living taken care, prisoned released, land released……..missing identified?? Respect all the dead with a common memorial/set up a Technocrat Education centre for the wannabe future Politicians?

Who will be taking care of Muslim politics the next phase of SL conflicts peacefully???

Then the upcountry Tamil politics in the future too………..we are missing something so important for this Sri Lankan curry……..cooking and cooking each other only.
