MORE MULTICULTURALISM and LESS Hindu Caste symbolism would help the TNA ticket.. and heal and unite the war torn Tamil community.

The Justice is a good choice but he should not display his caste and religious status too much since the Tamil community is INTERNALLY DIVERSE – Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, low caste and high caste, YOUNG and old… The new Tamil leadership needs to be INCLUSIVE and reach across the various INTERNAL dividing lines that have been the downfall of the community as a whole., it also needs to give youth and YOUNG WOMEN in particular a place to speak.
The TNA leadership needs to be inclusive and MULTICULTURAL strike a healing tone to UNITE the TAMIL community at this time…

There is not a single Woman in this picture – even though Tamil women are the backbone of the community! What a disgrace this party of geriatric men is!

Doddering Sambanthan needs to find and mentor women to take positions and lead the TNA – until this happens there will be no REAL change in the party which is an elitist patriarchy of old men!
Talented women and youth (NOT family members of Tamil politicians) should be 30 percent of the leadership of TNA and the outfit needs to have a policy to pro-actively attract TALENTED women and youth to the party. As it stands it is dominated by lawyers who just talk and do nothing for the community. There need to be talented planners, policy makers, administrators and technocrats who are capable of planning and coordinating DEVELOPMENT POLICY AND IMPLEMENTATION working for the upliftment of the Tamil community – rather than holding development hostage to talking with the Rajapassa regime.

        A good comment.

Lakshmi, evidently a Tamil Christian, makes the same point twice in the Colombo Telegraph today. It is the identical comment!

She is divisive. She highlights the Hindu caste system. The Tamil Christians and Sinhalese Buddhists also have caste and are divided by it! The Roman Catholic church denies women equality!

Vigneswaran is good because he represents erudition and education. There is no need to over emphasize the Christian element in Tamil society as Lakshmi does. Further, the Muslims are a separate ethnic group and we need to respect their insistence that they be classified as separate. The basis of Tamil identity in Sri Lanka is Hindu – lets respect that. This said, there should also be inclusivism and tolerance by the Tamil Hindu of the Sinhalese Buddhist, the Muslim, the Burgher and the Christian.

TNA should reach out to the Sinhalese as well. Help heal deep seated misgivings and scars after the war among Sinhalese too. Sinhalese are very distrsutful of TNA. And with good reason. Hope Justice C.V Wigneswaran will take that task very seriously. Unlike racists in the TNA who are plotting to destabilze Sri Lanka once again with IC, Tamil Nadu & hopeless LTTE die-ass-pora backing.

This photograph emphasising Tamil unity, to my mind, is symbolic of a
post-2009 feeling of oneness in the Tamil Nation. This unity transcends
caste, ideology, recent political affiliations and challenges the many
surreptitious State and chauvinistic anti-Tamil agendas to harm and reduce the Tamil Nation to the status of a non-entity. The most stinging response of the Tamil Nation to the dangerous challenges of the day is to close all ranks and vote Justice Vigneswaren in with the highest majority possible. The road is going to be tough, violent and
unreasonable – features the Tamil Nation has endured but survived albeit great sacrifice.

Congratulations to the affable Justice Vigneswaren. Equal thanks and appreciation to M/s Sampanthan and Mavai S. How wonderful will it be if Sinhala parties from the South grace the meetings of Justice V and
support his candidature realising what is at stake is the interest of the good of the country and all communities – Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and others.

Well said Senguttuvan. But for me it’s still unbelievable. I prey that it should last long and forever. This man’s nerves are filled with natural justice which is a rare issue among our Tamils and leaders. Let’s wish him all the very best and render our support to strengthen his hands to heal the wounds of our brethren.

Have we got 8 more retired honest judges in this island?

If it is not too much can we find another 225 + 1 retired judges with integrity?

How would you contrast Justice Wigneswaran’s administration to that of Pillyan’s one in the East?

I am sorry I couldn’t help comparing both persons as chief ministers.

My worry is that political system in place in this island could tarnish Justice Wigneswaran’s character.

        Native Veddah,

When I decided to leave the University system as an Associate Professor in 1988 to join the private sector as a Senior Manager, many of my close friends advised me against it. They felt that I was leaving a prestigious job for a lesser one. I told them it is not the chair that lends me prestige, but it is I who brings prestige to the chair. I was proved right.

Justice Wigneswaran has the potential to restore some prestige to our rotten political system and also be the best CM possible, even under the very much constrained and constricted circumstances. The future of the entire PC system in the Island, will benefit from how he runs the NPC and conducts himself as CM. This is a onerous responsibility, which I expect him to handle quite well. If he cannot, there are probably no else on the horizon.

Native, dear man. Comparing Vigneswaran to that Chimpanzee Pillaiyan. Surely, good old chap???

By the way, what are your thoughts on Maha Oora caving in for a
mere double-cab – petrol, chauffeur and all? What about this purity of the wilderness and all other balder-dash we were fed with all these years by Manik Sandrasagera and friends. MR, despite all his faults functions on the Mario Puzo Machivellian philosophy “make him an offer that he cannot refuse” Your chief and the entire tribe has been had, eh what.

He is a sought after speaker among the after dinner lecture circuits.

He is so popular soon he would become accustom to jet set life style.

You ain’t seen nothing yet. Mario Puzo would be proven wrong.

“What about this purity of the wilderness and all other balder-dash we were fed with all these years by Manik Sandrasagera and friends”

You should ask his wife, partner or girl friend.

“Comparing Vigneswaran to that Chimpanzee Pillaiyan. Surely, good old chap???”

By now you would have become familiar with my stupid questions and queries. As an elder commentator I expected you to write a treatise on virtues of the man occupying the office.

Still not too late, please do write.

The victors were only able to come up with “that Chimpanzee Pillaiyan.” as the Chief minister whereas the vanquished are slowly learning to appreciate the need for wise men.

Bit of anarchism helps to clarify matters of importance.

            Dear Native Veddah

“By now you would have become familiar with my stupid questions and queries..” They are neither. The satirical content, wholesome
humour and intelligence are always welcome reading.

I am thinking of writing an Essay “The Degeneration of Sri Lanka”
with due tribute to that poker-faced honourable Indian bureaucrat TN Seshan but could never got to it – for one reason or the other.

But my deep concern is this news of yours about the 2 Kandy Mahanayakes getting into the ring – again. Every time they did, they set the country on fire and succeeded in producing years of disunity and blood-shed. Looks like The Brothers, having failed on all other fronts, have decided on this sure-fire strategy.
How I wish they expended their influence and energies on driving to united the people and help the country proceed on the path to
unity and prosperity – Desmond Tutu style. The timing is intriguing.

Malwatte and Asgiri Mahanayakes want PCs abolished
          BY J.A.L. JAYASINGHE
          July 18, 2013

The Mahanayakes of Malwatte and Asgiri Chapters yesterday stressed the need to abolish the provincial council system in the country.

Addressing a group of representatives from All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC), the Asgiri Mahanayake, the Most. Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkita Thera said one should not be afraid of India or any other country when taking a decision to abolish this system. He said the 1987 IndoLanka Accord should be annulled. He said, “The then President the late J.R. Jayewardene signed this agreement despite advice against it by the Mahanayakes. There was not much resistance to it at that time. President Jayewardene signed it for political reasons. Today, the problem has worsened. If land and police powers are devolved to the provinces, what else will be left for the central government?”

He said there should be a unitary state without provincial councils. However, the Mahanayake of Malwatte Chapter, the Most Ven. Thibbotuwave Sri Sumangala Thera said the executive presidency, the provincial council system and the preferential voting system should all be abolished for the good of the country. “There are so many political representatives in the various governing bodies. Yet, there is virtually nothing being done for people. They work for themselves. I personally believe that the provincial council system should be abolished,” he said.

Is the timing of the this address ring a bell?

I suppose it has taken the prelates 25 years to study provincial councils and 35 years to analyse the 1978 constitution.

          I envy their intellect.

Don’t bet on their secular guidance.

Bravo TNA. The right decision at the right time. A landmark and a high water mark in Tamil politics. We may have climbed the right bus to the destination that is our right.

It may be a hard road, but it is the right road. It is the destination- our rightful place as citizens and as a community within a united and well governed Sri Lanka- that matters. The means justify the end and not the other way around- ‘the end justifies the means’. We paid a terrible price for the latter approach. I hope we will not leave the high road, ever again. The tit for tat approach will not work in our favour.

Douglas Devananda says in an interview in Colombo Today, that the President told him several times that if Douglas was the CM, there will not be any qualms about devolving power as per the 13th amendment. Justice Wigneswaran is heads and shoulders above Douglas on every count and is above reproach. It is now up to the President to give CM Wigneswaran, if and when elected, the boon he promised Douglas.

President Rajapakse promised many things to many people. He promised 13, 13+ to India, UN and told recently he didn’t promise anything to these people. It is who Douglas said that he will everything, not Rajapakse said to public. Rajapakse told to BBS that he will get rid of 13. Rajpakse is not a fool to give up his presidential power to somebody because his life hang on the buddhist extremism.

TNA had been to denied policy of united Sri Lanka and promoted Separatism and split country two nations; by and large Mr C.W Wigneswarans (Justice) his policy shall be turn into public & national interest, before contest in PC election will be held soon!
TNA and other Tamil outfits are until end of war 2009 May, more or less support ,encourage terrorism and separatism since by and large during under the SJV of FP,TULF and then TNA.
Justice Wigneswarans has to play the role on behalf of Tamils people, vital interest to be promoted suffering Tamil’s vital interest in North region, bring back to Tamils national into nation political agenda, as well as path of economic social and peaceful development in that region.
Hence His role is bring back Justice and equality and clean administration for the people of north, and won majority people confidence of United Sri Lanka.
Needless to say his task and mission as broad as FREE from all terrorism, separatism and fair deal all Tamils.
But his politics policies are not PIFFLE,but must be practice real sense of PIETY of politics and policies, as elected Tamil representative by the people are accountable national unity politics.

I should salute the decision made by the TNA. Unlike the ruling party which nominates actresses and thugs, TNA has elected an educated proven candidate. Well done! Its time for the ruling party to take notice of this selection and make suitable selection for their party as well.

The new CM has another job to do, that is to unite the Tamils all over Sri Lanka, even in Colombo and upcountry. Upcountry Tamils do not have proper leadership. Its time for TNA to nominate upcountry Tamils as their members and contest forthcoming elections. Let Thonda go to hell!

Best wishes to Justice Vigneswaran for yielding to the wishes of many in the community. Congratulations to Sambandan for the leadership he has demonstrated at this critical juncture in our history. A great decision in selecting a great candidate for an extremely challenging situation that lies ahead. Mr.Sampandan, Mr.Sumanthiran and the other leaders of the TNA win our compliments. Not the least is Mavai Senathirajah’s magnanimity in gracefully accepting the decision.

If in President Rajapakse’s scheme of things the overweening consideration is resolution of the national question, then his statesmanship can express itself in not fielding a candidate against Justice Wigneswaran.

    With best wishes to JW.

Dear Mr.Sampanthan, I saw you at TULF office in main street, Jaffna in 1977 immediately after the nominations. You were not a powerful candidate as you were replacing the sitting MP Late Mr. Neminathan. Now you have proved that you are a better leader next to SJV. May God grant you a longer and healthier life to serve the Tamil people of this land. Your another choice to Tamil politics Mr. Sumanthiran is praise worthy.

Mr Sivathasan articulates the shared happiness of the Tamil Nation.
We must give credit to where it is due and that is to India, which has
often been under unfair attack both within and in the diaspora as well as the Sinhala extremists. Certainly India is not without fault where the Tamil struggle is concerned but in recent times they came out of their way not only to help the Rajapakses but to help both Tamils and the Sinhalese, if matters are seen in perspective.

BTW, in the peculiar circumstances we are in, it is best to remember
there is much between the cup and the lip.

This day marks a new dawn and history will record this day as the day the Tamil community decided to banish a parochial and ethnocentric form of politics from our midst. A big thank you to Mr Mavai Senathirajah for placing the welfare of his community and the country above his own political ambitions and aspirations……a very rare quality indeed in modern Sri Lanka. The welfare of Tamils/Muslims is inextricably linked to the welfare of Sri Lanka and all it’s people and the welfare of the SriLankan State is inextricably linked to the welfare of Tamils/Muslims. None of us can escape from this interdependence. Going by his recent speeches I am sure Mr Wigneswaran appreciates this fact and his actions will be guided by this reality. Mahesan Nirmalan

I write this message of congratulations to Justice Vigneswaran for having jumped into the cesspit not to make money but to serve the community and country whose image is in shambles.Iam confident that he will stand tall much higher than the so called sinhala leaders and will not work towards communalism and separation but will weld the country and bring it to where it was where the right man will be in the right place. The south is desperate to have good governance where there will be no place for substandard rascals and where the rule of law will apply to all and all to be equal before the law.
Never in the history of the country did justice get a beating as its today.A murder suspect never getting remanded the justice system being bluffed by lawyers and no action from the judiciary still. My thoughts flashed to the late Justice Basnayake Justice HNG and T.S.Fernando and the well known Justice Sri Skandarajah. If they were alive today this convicted child rapist would have been hauled up and also the doctors and lawyers who gave false medical reports too. What baffles the nation is why the Supreme Court which has all the powers fail to order the arrest of this notorious drug peddlar and get him to face the judicial process.
Sri Lanka has many more of the type of Justice Vigneswaran and the nation pleads that they should come forward and drive away the notorious outfit whose only claim is to have ended terrorism. That fact is recognised and what is dfistressing is to aee what is in place now. and is unimaginable in a civilised society. Its no secret that no o one is safe other than those protected.

      Practisng non rascist buddhist

The Sinhala/Buddhist government and the state as the customs in the past will continue to undermine the Tamil political leadership by not granting any meaningful powers to the regional state institutions.

SJV was a moderate – he was undermined. Amir was less moderate – was undermined. As a result the state produced VP. Rest is history.

Is .Mr Srithaaran , MP for Jaffna in the picture?.

According to news reports yesterday, one Mr Sritharan told his loyal Diaspora audience in Toronto that he rescued 200 Tamil Girls from the Army, who were on the verge of being taken away to be raped.

He also urged the Canadian Youth to learn about Prabakaran and start the new Liberation from there.

When a hardcore LTTEer pleaded with him to stay there to lead the Liberation, Mr Srithran declined saying that he has more important business back home, to look after the ex LTTE fighters in wheel chairs and keep an eye on the Girls so that the Army won’t take them away to rape.

Probably the TNA heavy hitters must have been full on busy trying to stich up this deal to get the Vellala from Kurunduwatta back on board.

Otherwise how could they miss this attempted mass rape?.

What is your point if there is one?

“Probably the TNA heavy hitters must have been full on busy trying to stich up this deal to get the Vellala from Kurunduwatta back on board.”

For about 20 years the Karava ruled the roost. Both the stupid Tamils and stupid Sinhalese didn’t like him at all.

Now you are mourning about a Vellala being selected as the chief ministerial candidate.

Would you like VP to contest the elections if he is still “alive”?

      What do you really want?

      Please make up your mind.

Wigneswaran may be ok,but all depends on whether there will be completely free and fair elections.
EPDP and the army will try not to not allow that to happen.
Already the army is ‘campaigning’ for UPFA candidates – which means that other candidates are under threat.
Polling and counting will be manipulated unless the election commissioner picks the officials himself from among public servants in jaffna.
The commissioner must allow monitors from the date of nomination until one day after polls.
But he says that there is not enough funds – why he cannot request more funds is inexplicable.

Justice – If the NP elections are eventually held Wayamba – under the able direction of SBD, then CBKs right-hand thug – will look like a Sunday school picnic. The Family, lead by the Brothers Four, will bring everything in their bag of tricks to undermine a genuine poll – despite India’s subtle warning. Douglas D will not allow what could be his his last hurrah go either eventless or bloodless.

If the Election Commissioner is short of funds he must publicly say so and ask the Centre for sufficient funds to run a clean election. In view of the crucial nature of the election, the international community must insist on sufficient overseas monitors day and night from the day of the nomination till a day after the final election date. Believe me, the regime will do everything within its power to undermine a TNA victory as it fears such a victory, in the eyes of India and the world, will be an important tool for this delusionary fear of a Separate State later on. The regime knows there is no such thing but yet it will produce this as a marketing tool to the majority gullible and long racially-prejudiced Sinhala voter.

A wise and excellent choice that will turn Tamil politics in a new direction, especially at a time when the Sinhala political scene is riven with racism, corruption, criminality and nepotism.

The question is how Sinhala extremist politics going to respond to the choice of Justice Wigneswaran as Chief ministerial candidate of TNA. Will this make any policy change? Will this stop the attack on Tamil and Muslim culture? Will this stop Sinhala Militarisation and Colonisation? Will this stop the unlawful abductions and murders of intelligence services and Paramilitary? Will this bring independence of institutions that is necessary for maintaining law and order and justice system?

Once elected I hope the NPC will set an example to other PCs (and the central government) on how to govern selflessly, with dignity, integrity, humbleness, and with genuine concern for the citizen. Your efficiency in managing finance and development will enlighten the South which is presently lost in corruption and inefficiency. Educating the South has become almost impossible due to the level sycophancy as well as the media control. If the NPC sets an example, that may become a visible learning tool, a case study as it were, to open the closed minds of the South.

You Wigneswaran must realize that many obstacles will be placed in your path. You must not fall prey to machinations from the central government, as well as from within. That goes for India too which may try to obtain their goals through you. You and the TNA must also make it clear to the South that you are not for separation. If you make that clear the majority of Sinhala people will be with you.

I do hope that you are the person that will bring unity to Sri Lanka once and for all, a task in which Mahinda Rajapaksa does not have the will to engage in despite the overwhelming power he wields.

Tamil politicians who held Ministerial positions in the different Govts. upto the 1970s have been always outstanding in performing their resonsibilities and, if saying it correctly, above allegations of corrupt activities. A TNA administration in the North led by the able and dignfiied Judge could also give a lead in changing the negative political culture in a positive direction. The TNA should not only look after the interests of the Tamil people but also must embrace the Muslims and Sinhalese who live in the North and have suffering the consequences of tragic events of the past. Of course, there would be disruptive manipulations by those who would want to continuve with their nature of divisive politics, but if the TNA could earn the confidence of all sections of the people they could succeed.

Is there any chemistry between the ex captives and a wine drinking Vellala from Kurunduwatta?.

What the ex captives need are proper shelter, proper class rooms, jobs, and safe environment to go about doing their daily tasks.

All TNA vellalas , in fact fifteen of them have offered them so far is a TNA Police and Land Titles for themselves.

Every thing else has been provided by the Govt with the help of a few friendly nations and the Armed Forces.

Can this Vellala CM if he cut the Mustard, help the ex captives by following the same path as Sambandan and his Vellala mates?.

Has the TNA anulled the the 14 to 1 disqualification?.

What more can he add to what the Govt provides, even if he fully cooperate with the Govt?.

Would Vigneswaran be bold enough to defy the TNA Velllas and seek funds from the Diaspora kitty to lift the living standards of the ex captives?.

Would Vigneswaren put a stop to the TNA ant Govti and anti Sinhala Buddhist propaganda and make the North East conducive to western investments?.

Would he be able to get the Diaspora IC to give something to the ex captives at least for them to catch up with their Vellala brethren in Wellawatta?.

Mr Sumane (or are you actually the famed Leelananda from Lee Potter as many correspondents seem to believe)?

What is your problem with this nomination? Can you not see that Mr Wigneswaran offers a great opportunity for the beginnings of good governance that can become an example for the other provinces?

I suggest that you either state your case objectively or stay silent, rather than simply creating mischief with your malicious innuendo.
      Thanks.

Sumane – It is clear you have a fixation on the Vellalars. You are obsessed with the very mention of Vellalars. You are obviously K, D,
H or one of those things existant below the surface in the South. I wish I had a way to get you membership into the Vellalar Club.

” It is clear you have a fixation on the Vellalars.”

Two possibility for his obsession with Vellala:

A Vellala girl must have given him the boot because he wouldn’t stop demanding dowry.

A Vellala boss must have given him the boot because he wouldn’t stop gibbering about his former Vellala girl friend.

Justice Vigneswaran for having jumped into the cesspit not to make money but to serve the community and country are surrounded by the TNA wolves.
Wonder whether he could make much of a dufference if elected.

TNA decision is nothing to be congratulated. All they need is to win at any cost and put forward Wigs not to serve the Northern Tamils but to stamp the suthority of the toothless tiger proxies at Wigneshwaran’s expense.
It is the same as RW using SF for the PE.

Wigneshwaran is a good choice in the eyes of the hawks who are fearful of Jaffna voter denouncing & snubbing the TNA in total.
COME ELECTION DAY, THE TNA HAWKS WILL HAVE TO KEEP THEIR FINGERS CROSSED UNTILL THE RESULTS ARE ANNOUNCED.
TNA STRUGGLING TO READ THE JAFFNA VOTER MIND AT THE MOMENT.

    CV interview-Daily Mirror

Question: What exactly does the Tamil community want?

    Answer:
Simple. The Tamil-speaking people want to look after their affairs themselves. In legal terminology that is the right of self-determination. They want to be governed in the North and East in their language. They want to go back to the land of their forefathers from temporary living quarters provided by whomsoever. They want their security, law and order to be in the hands of their siblings and progeny not in the hands of outsiders.

They want their lands and properties to be administered by themselves; not by outsiders. They want to elect their own representatives without being dictated to by outside agencies, military power or financial power or administrative power. They need to preserve their language, culture, religions and their way of life without outsiders building statues and vihares in their midst with military might. They need to be freed from mercenaries amongst their midst who plunder and rob at the instigation of outside agencies.

All these are not rights which the Tamil speaking people have concocted for themselves. Any people who have certain identities of their own are entitled to ask for self-determination in terms of the international covenants.

My suggestion is that a federal constitution is the best for our country so that the individuality of each community, major or minor, with its distinguishing identities, could be allowed to grow side by side with each other under one flag. Separation is what Prabhakaran asked. Federalism is what the non-violent Chelvanayagam asked! If need be you need not use the word ‘federalism’ since already it had gathered the status of a dirty word. But the maximum devolution to the periphery without a structural opportunity for interference from the centre should appease the Tamils.

Of course the Indo-Lanka Accord could be a starting point. After all it was an international agreement. But fundamental changes in governance, constitutional process, judicial process, in public administration and local government need to be effected and most importantly reforms in the security sector need to be placed in position if this country is to progress democratically.

Unlike when we were young, many Sinhalese have forgotten or have been made to forget the fact that Tamils occupied this country even before the birth of the Sinhalese language. Their progeny in the North and East are therefore entitled to their unfettered individuality

ex-Justice Wignesaran still in Eelam Utopia mindset. He has to change old-school of thought SJV and TULF and TNA and LTTE policy base on misled Tamils for separatism politics once and for all.By in Virtual of national sovereignty had been denied by Tamils demand of split country was the root cause ongoing current political crisis in Sri lanka.Ethanic Tamils in Sri lankan demand for Eelam state cause of Terrorism and separatist politics in North. They who seek (inculding Wigneseran) out-side support to be established Tamil rouge state in north. No police or land power for Tamils in north is quite impossible.

Already this candidate has showed his Tribalism. He needs to remover military camps from the North, He needs all the lands to tamils themselves.

On the other hands, He has not talked anything tamils need to building bridges with other communities, need to live with other communities.

Instead he has talked about self-determination.

So, Sri Lanka govt had given employment to one who wants to destroy the country. He just the got the opportunity of a Sinhala lawyer who wanted to be a supreme court justice.
