UNP Condemns Mattala Attack And Says Rajapaksas Made A Mockery Of Democracy, Civility And Decency

Full text of the statement issued by Karu Jayasuriya, Acting Leader, United National Party – Chairman, United Leadership Council, UNP

Where is law and order in this country?

Mark the day. Thursday, April 17, 2014 would go down in Sri Lankan history as a ‘black day’. Elected Representatives of the people, a team of UNP Parliamentarians five in number, comprising Ajith Perera, Eran Wickramaratne, R Yogarajan, Nalin Bandara and Ajith Manapperuma visited the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport and Hambantota Harbor projects, the twin-white elephants of this Government. They were greeted with catcalls, stones and guns by the devotees and supporters of the Rajapaksa clan in their own den. The electorate is that of the Speaker of the House of Parliament. The district is the playground of the President of the country and the visit was a basic expression of a fundamental right of each and every citizen of this country- freedom of movement. While the President, just twenty hours before this horrendous incident, was taking part in a traditional New Year Oil-anointment celebration, his goons went to work, brandishing weapons of violence and exposing to the hilt, the President’s hypocritical adherence to tradition and rituals. The Rajapaksas have made a mockery of democracy, of civility and of decency.

ErajThe team of  Parliamentarians was manhandled by the thugs of the regime, intimidated by gun -trotting Hambantota Mayor Eraj Ravindra Fernando and harassed beyond shame by those who have been brainwashed evidently on the strict instructions of the godfathers of the Deep South- Rajapaksas. Mayor Eraj Fernando carrying a loaded pistol was visible for everyone and has been seen on camera, thanks to the alertness of the media cameramen.

This is not the country we should leave behind for our children to inherit. Political power does not give this Government or any other person, civil or uniformed, any privilege to curb the fundamental rights enshrined in our Constitution. The sheer impotence of the Police Department was in vivid display. Uniformed men were reduced to being mere spectators. Good governance, transparency, accountability and basic decency were all thrown out the window.

This gross violation of societal discipline was once evidenced long years ago in a different era. Now it’s revisiting us in a much more gruesome manner and the ominous signals that these latest incidents emanate would be extremely harmful to a growing young generation.

It is with a deep sense of sorrow and nostalgia that we remember how the Opposition Parliamentarians were-escorted with serene dignity and decorum to the then emerging Mahaweli dams and reservoirs. Apparently the Rajapaksas and their cohorts don’t seem to understand the meaning of dignity and ethical behavior.

This gross violation of basic human rights of our citizens must be condemned without equivocation. It is a slap on the face of every man, woman and child living in this land. It is with a great sense of responsibility and grave duty that I ask the Honorable Speaker of the House of Parliament, who hails from the district in which this incident took place, to appoint a panel of investigators who are of eminence and acceptability to go into this callous and violent behavior of thugs and hooligans and submit the findings to Parliament. The victims were members of Parliament and the attackers were directly identified as government-sponsored ruffians.

The dishonorable behavior of the Police officers, who were present while this gross violation of human rights took place and yet were observing non-interference, is a clear indication as to what power and armor could do to shield these wrong-doers. We also condemn vehemently the remarks made by Ajith Rohana, the Police Spokesperson who has stated that if the MPs took their security details, the incidents could have been averted. The Police spokesperson has become a Government propagandist and is not only a disgrace to the Police uniform but also to the government that is merely paying lip service to democracy. The Police spokesperson is uttering outright lies and he should be made accountable for that grave misdemeanor too.

This only lends credence to allegations at last month’s UN Human Rights Council sessions that violation of human rights is a regular feature in Sri Lanka. Not only her citizens, but even the rights of lawfully elected Parliamentarians are in danger of being extinct.

It is the right, duty and responsibility of every citizen in the country to condemn this act and seek justice via the highest legislative body of the country, Parliament.

Law is busy with searching for lost Macaws of the presidents these days, than providing the security to its citizens. This is the srilanken regime.

As immediately after the incident, the mayor armed with a pistol to deny not to have done so – is very common to the smilar kind of incidents reported in the recent past.
Having watched the program ” Balaya ” on the Hiru sender, I myself felt, Kusal hamy -people´s upasaka balala -Mr Gomnapila and bone licking Azwer to just ignore the incident cause me and any right thinking people to become speechless – where we are today- under MR´s guidance.

This is what they now say (link is added below)- authorities would admit that as it was the case with heroin loads that were imported to the country with the direct mediation of the 2nd citizen of the country- Prime minister, but the investigations burried under the carpet as has been the fate of the crime investigations of any kind of high criminal acts carried out by the state today.

If this is what happens to MPs and politicians who have all the perks and privileges and think they are demigods in Lanka, what hope is there for ordinary citizens of Banana Republic!

This is why Sinhalaya Modayas and minorities alike are fleeing the Miracle of Asia and looking for jobs in every corner of the world! The Sri Lankan passport is not worth the paper it is printed on!

Jarapassa’s gloves are coming off and the criminal corruption of the Hambantota modayas are showing through.. Mahinda Rajapaksa his family and cronies are an insult to intelligent people!

As per Mirror, there were reasons for Namal to send the minor Eraj Ravindra Fernando to the scene rather than calling the police when he had come to know that there were fights. But who might have told Namal there were fight at two palaces? It doesn’t looks like it was the police who were trying to inform government’s of the situation.

If the police had been there and had been calling for backup would they have still told the media it was UNPer did not take their protection that is why they were hurt.

The man who is pointing the index finger (on the pic bottom – right) at the decent MP, lawyer-Ajith Perera has the looks very similar to that of Abhaya. The man attacked the MPs in all filthy langauge – as clearly heard on the video. There was nobody recognized with a walking stick – so Banda´s presence can surely be excluded.

So their numbering the state as the 4th on Impunity index is the reality

Yesterday it was for UNP, today it is for JVP, tomorrow it is for all of us -general public

      ————
UNP MP Eran Wickramaratne says he yesterday had his first personal experience of the lawlessness prevailing in Sri Lanka.

He is referring to the mobs attack on a group of party MPs involved in an observation of Mattala airport and Hambantota port and journalists covering the tour.

The MP says they wanted to look into how these two wrongly-made investments could be uplifted for the betterment of the country.

According to him, authorities at both the airport and the port had been informed in advance about their tour.

Mr. Wickramaratne says mobs surrounded and threatened the group when they were returning after inspecting the Mattala airport.

At the administrative complex of the port, mobs booed and threw eggs and stones at them, with one pistol-wielding person ambushing them.

In both instances, the police just looked on.

MP R. Yogarajan said the Hambantota mayor, the man armed with a pistol, had threatened them in front of the police.

WE have no other choice since we the stupid nation have made his hand strengthened, by abusing our votes for his political survival. If we thought twice before giving this much of power to this megalomaniac, we would have the line on our hand to control them. Today, the failure lies on us.

All right thinking people across the nation, should be well aware of the fact that the UNIVERSAL franchise – our own might, can move these buggers sending them a powerful message in the UWA province elections.

We are powerful than we appare to be. That we must be clear. Jaywewa. All right thinking Srilankens

Sama, Thanks for the link, I tried to find this link in You Tube but I couldn’t open it.
I was watching the first link. When listening to public comment I was wondering what a poor, ignorant, innocent & stupid bunch of people we are. This stupid public leave everything to fate or destiny and suffer. Why Mahinda Jarapaksa playing havoc today is because his good governance or his fake bogus developments but because of these idiots. Anything Rupavahini/ITN & the Dinamina say is holy for this innocent ignorant lot. Its so hard to convince them.

        Pandukab@,

Well thanks to your link I watched the entire program.

Azwer is not only a disgrace for the Muslims, but is a pain in the ass for whole country. Udaya Gammanpila is a pukka comedy. He thinks that he is cracking jokes.

The serious situation now the country facing is anarchy. This is what happens when you have a fake king. Mahinda Jarapaksa is a ‘doratupalaya rajawei’ king. The country is heading towards a precipice. Average people of this land don’t have a clue about it.

JVP, which was strongly against the Geneva resolution earlier began to realize its danger now. So they are talking sensibly. JVP has to take this massage to grass root level in the society. Its JVP’s responsibility of course since they brought Mahinda to power. Had it not for the JVP, Mahinda right now would be sitting somewhere in the back with Malini Fonseka.

” Had it not for the JVP, Mahinda right now would be sitting somewhere in the back with Malini Fonseka”

Sama, ‘back bench’ I meant, remember the mulberry group in CBK regime, they had many such informal groups.

Who pushed Mahinda forward, who’s making was mahinda-chintanaya?, Who told blatant lies in the stages about UNP, Who attacked RW & Bahu on daily basis? Its non other than JVP. There was GLP, Keheliya, Johnston, Gota, Basil so on and not even Mervin Silva was this outspoken.

Did you think Mahinda could talk then? Mahinda over the past years got some speaking experience and thanks to teleprompter, he delivers some speeches now that too nothing effective apart from throwing his hands and legs at every direction.

                Thanks. Pandukabaya.
We have to repeat all these whenever we could do so on ths platform or the like ones so that the CT readership would be better informed. Many like me being away from the country for decades, lost more of valuable kind facts and figures, lead us not to get all bits properly. I raise the question, why the nation is that passive today than had been no any times in the past. Is it because of the BEESHANAYA ? Why only DJ and only handful of writers add their analyses to this and other forums, what happened to UNi dons/senior academics and the like that own proved talents to do so ?

I think it is high time now all profesionals to organize a country wide strike against all injustices becoming their daily routine to this day. UN resolutions passed against MR regime in order to see improvement towards HR issues, could bring to emotional levels if the locals would have put the pressure on the govt, right these days.

And, in today´s context, what do you think, is there any options left to file an impeachment against MR ? I believe recent election victories would not count as they are not national elections.

                • 1
                  0

                  Impeach MR?
                  No Chance at all.
There is a 2/3rd majority for him.

Sama, Let alone impleaching him, there isnt a single bugger to say a single word against Mara at present. Besides dont ever trust these SLFP beggar buggers. Last several years seniors like Nimal Siripala, Maithripala Serisena, DM Jayaratne, Rathnasiri Wickramanayake so on were ill treated. What they did they do in return apart from praising MaRa publicly at every news briefings/interviews.

UNP, has over two years been so busy playing tug of war hence they absolutely have no time to get organized or regroup themselves to form a formidable team.

The JVP on the other hand is well organized but I am sceptical about their tactics although I like the JVP. My doubt is that JVP might not welcome a UNP Government over this regime and would rather prefer having Mara instead. JVP leadership already openly said that they wouldnt be joining a coalation/common opposition.

Therefore indict or impeach Mara is a mere dream.

By the way Sama, that lovely peaceful days of Sama+Amara beautiful era is dead and gone so was the cream and we are now left with the dreg.

Until sarong wearing Rasthiadu karayas (pictures worth a thousand words) are fully removed from our society, nothing will work for the good in this country. Here, the one who has been abusing the nation, being the leader is also not to exclude. Weeds should be uprooted as no more harm could bring for the cultivation, in the very same manner, these rascals rally round to Rajapakshe family – in his habitat filled with murderers, rapists, all the like rascals bring all harm to their own citizens. I know by myself, UNP personalities like Ajith Perera are very decent to everyone´s eyes. But to threat them to that abusive manner, as seen on the TV screens day before yesterday, they should have planned it properly. If this kind of or far near to this would have been the case on an European democracy, responsible ministers would have reacted promptly as they can – not even hours would take them to react, but our place, MR administration has been used not to pay adequate attention on the like minded issues. Now the situation has become – as no solutions is on their hand against any kind of criminal acts. If Rajapakshes are also made out of blood and flesh, they should notice the manner they handle the kind of crimes are far from all civilised standards. Latter should be made clear to Rajapakshe, before the west is making every efforts him to show the need of alleged war crime investigations believed to have occured at the end of war-in 2009.

I heard some villagers saying as no times in the past, crimes have gone up drastically to this day. Armed men as ruling party supporters have been mobilised by Rajapakshes in order to control rival political activities. This was the case too during the election campaigning. SF and his party men were persecuted by thuggish groups back by Rajapkshes. People thought to be away from voting, OR vote for the oppostion, but the lack of information sent by the opposition, could not reach many of the voters. This was clear one good reason them to see as voted for rulers. Sky rocketed prices of the daily essentials make it very diffiult to run the life today. People are not interested in anything but a relief in the areas of cost of living. Many of us feel, why should we pay more while unaffordable war is no longer there, on going developement projects are paid by high interest loans..why have they the rulers failed to make some signficant reductions in our daily needs ? In the rich nations, they have price fluctuations in most essentials goods towords the relieving ends. But in our poor country, i mean poor by every means, things seem to be handled in other way around. Totally, unfriendly towards people ??????ß

Man in dark polo T shirt (on this pictures) sounds on the video to be a high criminal comparable to the grade of most known ” Juliampitya Amaraya”. So, how can CBK or any decent kind of leader to get on with a man who is similar to these thugs ? Srilanka is proved to be an anarchy.
Police had no powers to react adequately.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puRSq8Jpth8

When I look at all these closely, I feel, one would not even shed a tear, if MR would be destroyed to the very same manner Gadaphi´s fate ended up.

      What is R2P?

The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is a principle aimed at the protection of
the world’s most vulnerable populations from the most heinous international crimes: genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against human beings.

What are the key messages of R2P?

The key messages of R2P are threefold:

1.States have a responsibility to protect populations under their jurisdiction from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

2.The international community has a responsibility to help states to fulfill their responsibility to protect

3.When a state is ‘manifestly failing’ to protect its own populations then the international community has a responsibility to protect and may take collective action in a timely manner even to the point of using force as a last resort.

What is the legal basis of R2P?

While R2P is not itself, a legally binding framework, as a principle R2P is grounded in existing international law. States’ responsibilities when faced with the crime of genocide are enumerated in the Genocide Convention which holds States responsible to prevent and punish the crime of genocide. States obligations to ‘respect and ensure respect for’ international humanitarian law, and their responsibilities under IHL are enumerated in the Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocols.

These obligations are relevant to the war crimes responsibilities under R2P.
Crimes against humanity, although a well recognised international crime and defined at length in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, does not have its own convention or treaty defining States responsibilities with regard to crimes against humanity although elements of the crime such as torture and slavery do have their
      own conventions.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

      Amarasiri,
You have “hit the nail on the head”.
There is also a saying – “What you sow,you always reap”.
The UPFA and UNP politicians behave differently,at different times.
It all depends on who benefits.

But,this incident confirms the lawlessness in the country today.
All lankans, have to bear this burden.
The international community is well aware, hence the UNHRC resolution.

        Saman,

        The Prince by Machiavelli

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prince

Although it is relatively short, the treatise is the most remembered of Machiavelli’s works and the one most responsible for bringing the word “Machiavellian” into usage as a pejorative. It also helped make “Old Nick” an English term for the devil, and even contributed to the modern negative connotations of the words “politics” and “politician” in western countries.[6] In terms of subject matter it overlaps with the much longer Discourses on Livy, which was written a few years later. In its use of near-contemporary Italians as examples of people who perpetrated criminal deeds for politics, another lesser-known work by Machiavelli which The Prince has been compared to is the Life of Castruccio Castracani.

The descriptions within The Prince have the general theme of accepting that the aims of princes—such as glory and survival—can justify the use of immoral means to achieve those ends.[7]

“ He who neglects what is done for what ought to be done, sooner effects his ruin than his preservation. ”

        —Machiavelli, “Chapter 15”, The Prince,

Even the Asian Mirror website of Rasika Jayakody seems to be singing MR’s tunes since of late too… The Nation.lk website of Malinda has not carried no news article about the ‘Hambantota episode’ even 36 hours after it taking place. At the time of me writing this comment, I only read an article about Hambontota Mayor denying the accusation levelled at him… Some journalism practices of Malinda Seneviratne and Nation.lk!!

don’t worry , as usual they will condemn this whole ‘Day time soap’ drama unequivocally , specially DJ would go extra mile by giving a voice cut/ an interview and possibly by another hard hitting article criticizing every Tom, Dick & Harry but , yes that big BUT will always be there . isn’t this a golden opportunity and an easy soft target to punch & kick around for DJ types to score some brownie points !

after all how many people did know about this ‘mayor’ character prior to this latest episode ? so it is evident , this ‘Mayor character ‘ is going to be a good punching bag for DJ type vultures.

A mayor of Rajapakshe favourites to create mayhem against opposition MPs is an another data for UNHRC to notice the levels of human right violations- right after the UN resolution against the country was passed with the approval of 23 member states with 12 abstentions. So no talks against UNHRC´s stand is made by this day.

MR regime has been a joke before their own folks.

          Andreasappuhamy ,

if UN really wants to penalize the junta regime for it’s crimes , there are enough evidences to convict them , these latest little, mild dramas are nothing compared to the vintage ones (walikada massacre, weliweriya shooting spree , CJ impeachment saga, over a dozen journo’s murders , 2009 innocent Tamil annihilation, grease yaka phenomenon etc ). this is a yet another mini drama to cater for the local grass eating populace , until a new drama comes to the main stream media , we all can engage in postmortem analysis.

These ballige puthas will do whatever they think is right as was the case with the alleged key accused of the britsh terrorist murder two years ago.
President´s direct mediation kept the crime investigation of the particular murder case took over 2years to this day. DNA test results have proved the alleged person – former PS member, president´s man should be one of the rapists of the victim´s girl friend. Irrespetive all these prima facie evidence, the case to be ended up bailing them should be focused by CW member countries.
This country has fallen to this absymal levels to today, it is all because of the president himself has been a highly abusive man in all unpredictable nature.

Not many tourists would plan their holidays in SRILANKA this time.

UK, Australia, Canada and many other countries are well concerned about the prevailing security environment in the country. Those who are not in the same view will join too not to visit the country. So It is highly advisable President to pay closer attention on these areas than anything else, because country´s future solely depends on tourist arrivals though it has now become the third or fourth foreign exchange bringers.

who is telling the truth ?

This sounds akin to the incident Mervin (President´s thug leader) tied a public servant to a tree post and asked the man to say, that he tied himself to the post…

likewise, the man with the pistol says today – it was not a real one, but a toy pistol.

Where is Justice in Sri Lanka, or is it the proof that as the statue of Justice is usually depicted “eyes covered”, Justice in Sri Lanka could not see this event as the eyes were covered!

Where is the chest beating, Terrorist vanquisher Gothabaya? Was Gotha asleep when this happened or were his eyes also covered.

He beats his chest in Malaysia advising the whole world how to get rid of Terrorism, but he cannot stop or protect Parliamentarians in his own back yard. What an efficient Secretary of Defence and chest beater we have in Sri Lanka.

Does he know the meaning of the word “SHAME”?

There is enough evidence in the media to apprehend the people and recording of the threats and actions, there is also police complaint, why won’t the police take them into custody under PTA or even threatening to kill the MPs?

The entire opposition in the Parliament should walk out of the Parliament and never attend the Parliament.

agree with you every word, but I guess people would not sense it yet.
Before planning to come and see my aged parents this time, I am unusually worried about my own security. So would many this time than anytimes in the past. It is said, crimes have gone up as no others times the past. People struggle to survive their life. They may have no time & interests to see the way politicians abuse them, than just say nothing as if they notice the difference.

This remind me attacks on SC judges, monks, protesting politicians, etc and etc during the 12 year long JRJ rule. Also reminds me of the most disgraceful attack on a woman supporter of UNP at Wyamba elections, and attack on Rukantha and Chandralekha, and so many other attacks on innoscents during Chandrika regime. It must be mentioned the most recent attack on those who are against the UNP leadership by Man-gala’s kurundu polu brigade.

I am appalled. It’s a shame on the MR government. Violence has no place in politics. Perpetrators of violence must be brought to justice. And that’s the only way forward for MR. I am sure he knows it.

“Perpetrators of violence must be brought to justice.”

I hate to agree with you however there is a small problem. How do you propose to bring Gota and armed forces to justice for war crimes which they committed against innocent people from 1987?

      • 1
        0

        Vedda,
Very many people have been accused of ‘war crimes’ since WW11. Winners have charged some selected losers in showcase trials and hanged them. But those who ordered and turned Dresden to rubble and flames at the end of the same war for no useful reason from the winner’s side were left out with total impunity. Those who ordered nuclear bombs to be dropped and pilots who dropped it on Japan and burn close upon half a million civilian men, women and children alive at the end of the war kept posing as ‘war heroes’ till they died. A few years back, Madeleine Albright had gone so far as to justify that nuclear attack as a must to end the war quickly. But they never said that when we ended the 33 year brutal war.

Neo cons never learned a lesson. Long afterwards WW11, the leaders of the same country had ordered to use the most horrible gas attacks on hundreds of thousands of civilians in Vietnam. And that’s a war neo cons started by barging into some others country. Leave out ‘war crime’ charges the perpetrators of the gas attacks were not even investigated at least to learn a lesson from the mistake. All of the war criminals live as heroes. Mind you, what it is only a few of their crimes. The actual list is unending.

Neither Gota nor Sri Lanka forces had done nothing like the crimes that neo cons committed. We fought a humane war with ruthless terrorists. What ch4 presents is a figment of imagination by the terrorist backers. What more proof than the few words that the US defence attaché Laurence Smith carefully uttered at a defence symposium in Colombo aftermath of the last Eelam war. Besides, we all know that the eagle eyes of neo cons big birds stay put in the heavens over the war arena throughout the war. If there is an iota of truth in ‘war crimes’, neo cons would have shown all of it through their ‘impartial’ CNN, BBC and the lot by now.

Hambantota mob attack : UNP MPs to raise privilege issues against Police

      R.Yogarajan

      by Zacki Jabbar

The five UNP MPs who were attacked by UPFA mobs when they visited the Mattala Airport and Hambantota Port, on the ‘invitation’ of the government on Thursday are to raise privilege issues against the police for failing to provide them with security.

      R. Yogarajan, one of the legislators who came under attack, told The Island yesterday that when parliament resumes sittings on April 24, he along with MP’s Ajith P. Perera, Eran Wickremaratne, Nalin Bandara and Ajith Manapperuma, would individually table privilege motions against the Hambantota police HQI and ASP for doing nothing while they were pushed, abused, threatened and pelted with stones, rotten eggs and tomatoes,by two UPFA mobs, each numbering over a 100 persons.

“There is photographic evidence showing the Hambantota Police HQI and his men smiling, while we were being attacked,” he said.

The MP said that when they were returning to Colombo after having visited the Mattala airport and the Hambantota port, they spotted the Hambantota HQI and some of his men following them in a jeep. “So Eran Wickremeratne got off our bus and beckoned the jeep to stop, but the HQI ignored us and drove off. Even though the Police did not provide security, the media team that accompanied us did their utmost by forming human shields around us,but it was of no avail due to the sheer numbers in the mob.”

Yogarajan, thanked the authorities at both the Mattala airport and Hambantota port for facilitating their visits and endeavouring to answer all questions to the best of their ability.

UNP and it’s leadership deserve this treatment for their own failure to dump the rubbish, spineless RW, that effectively provide a field with no opponent for the President Rajapakse.

Sad thing is the ultimate victim is the citizen who has been betrayed by all this great Machiavellians.

You are the ilk would only cause worsening the state of the wound.
One would not cut the ear if something else it itching. Narrow minded ones of your nature are also the reason this regime to allow even rape your lovely ones, at broad day light today.

    • 2
      1

You cant force RW or any clean leaders to become abusive just because of almost all and sundry is abusive among the rulers today.
It is simply, RW is a gentleman who would not go against the law and order. Right at the moment, lack of rule of law and order make everyone life very uncomfortable. Women and children are the highly vulnerable of all of their abusive tactis. If the bugger implemented rule of law rigorously, immediately after the war is over, the govt would have achieved a lot by this date, specially in the line of peace and reconciliation for the war victimes in the country.
Just thinking his political survival not to implement law and order has worsened the situation by this day. Opposition and all other non political bodies should join hand and impeach the INCUMBENT PRESIDENT saving the natiion further being harrased by his lawless adminitration.

“Opposition and all other non political bodies should join hand and impeach the INCUMBENT PRESIDENT saving the natiion further being harrased by his lawless adminitration. “

what a load of bollocks ? who is going to come forward to impeach the king from opposition side , let alone from ruling junta side !king has secured more than 2/3 majority using all sorts of jilmarts ,intimidation and perks , period !

“RW is a gentleman who would not go against the law and order. “

this is exactly the problem , SL people do not need a just gentleman opposition leader who does nothing meaningful to the opposition or to the country, what is the point being a just gentleman when the country gets raped from a total maniac in the broad day light ? RW is the guy who was talking about latimer principles and other cock & bull and went on hiding behind “Parliament supreme ” BS in helping MR to impeach CJ , though RW and few of his supporters tried to hide the truth , the whole country knows how he betrayed the country without any shame or guilt !

“Just thinking his political survival not to implement law and order has worsened the situation by this day.”

this equally applies to RW as well , RW couldn’t care less about the country or opposition , he is the other side of the MR coin , all of his yes stooges are there to nod the head when there is any internal election , exactly like SL parliament!

what a pathetic situation , RW is busy giving lectures at MIT for the next whole month !

    Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe and Mr.Karu Jayasuriya.

First of all it is only now you all the UNP sleeping Elephants are awakening, only after seeing People oriented and People friendly JVP and DP won more seats in Western and Southern Provincial Counsil Elections.
Until now you UNPers was only shouting in the Parliament to deaf monkeys with no use. Only now UNP has woken up.

Had UNP followed JVP’s path and highlight Rajapakse corruptions earlier, they would have got more PEOPLES support and vote. Too little too late. Anyway better late than never.

Second it is only due to A WEAK AND LAME DUCK UNP’s TOP LEADERSHIP THAT RAJAPAKSES TOOK ADVANTAGE OF. If UNP had a strong Leadership with a Fearless mind and body TO FIGHT CORRUPTIONS EARLIER, these kind of thuggish behaviour would not have occured. Therefore it is UNP itself should get the blame for this and nobody else.

Can UNP bring all these CRIMINALS and their MASTERS to Justice.
Can UNP bring POLICE RAJAPAKSE COOLIES to justice.
Can UNP bring the SYNTHETIC LAWYER who was behind this Drama to justice.
Can UNP bring this PISTOL WIELDING Duminda Silva JR. who will say “Mata Mathaka Nehe” I can’t remember, later to Justice.

Can UNP bring all the corruptions and Alibabas behind Mattala Airport and Hambanthota Harbour White Elephant projects to justice.

Can UNP bring the Mattala Environmental Mass Murderers who authorized these wasteful projects to Justice. (This is Sri Lanka’s biggest environmental disaster where over 8,000 Acres of Thick Jungle, animal habitat, agricultural land and peoples settlements were PERMANENTLY DISTROYED AND COVERED WITH THICK CONCRETE TO BUILD MATTALA AIRPORT, HAMBANTHOTA HARBOUR AND SURIYAWEWA CRICKET STADIUM)

Can UNP bring the biggest Alibabas and Criminal Commissin Kakkas and environmental disaster assasins and their stooges WHO MADE BILLIONS FROM THESE WASTEFUL PROJECTS TO JUSTICE.

UNP SHOULD ANSWER TO PEOPLE ON THE ABOVE QUESTIONS IF THEY WANT PEOPLES VOTE FOR NEXT ELECTIONS.

FINALLY UNP SHOULD BRING ALL THE CRIMINALS AND THEIR CORRUPTIONS AND ALLEGATONS TO PEOPLES ATTENTION THROUGH MEDIA, AND LET THE PEOPLE BE THE JUDGES WITH THEIR VOTE.

    Good luck.

Rajapakses made their first Oscar award winning Namalwood Blockbuster movie in their Hambanthota cinema villege yesterday.

The real action pact Chicago Cow Boy style movie is more than a real movie.

Yes we are right on top of getting 2.5 million tourists to see the real live action pact excitement shows only in Sri Lanka.

This one comes out when the real life Thangalla international Murder case is still gong on.

Yes. Why not. Get more tourists to watch Real life action pact scenes without going to cinemas to watch fake actors and stories.

This pistol weilding guy should get an award as a real life participant at next Oscar awards.

“Ewa Balawa” ……..Come and See Yourself to the 2.5 Million tourists our Hambanthota Comedy dramas.

We already lost 20 million Dollars from Canada’s Pledged CW contribution.

      What will be next…….

      Who are going to suffer…….

Unless all the opposition Parties act now to bring these culprit thugs to books we will further loose Funding, donations and Investments. Already UK and Australia have updated their Travel guides to Sri Lanka as concerns.

It is we the ordinary people suffer and not Rajapakse Goons.

Act now and rescue our country as people are suffering due to these thugs and corruption.

Sri Lanka is becoming increasingly a lumpen state. It is government by the lumpen, through the lumpen, for the lumpen. The decent people, who yet have a sense of values, are the mute victims of this deepening lumpen phenomenon. What we are seeing all over are the symptoms of this dastardly process.

The Nero of Sri Lanka is fiddling away merrily, while the fires have been kindled all around this island!

Is it dangerous tourists to visit the country ?

What do you think Dr. RN?

      • 0
        0

My impression is that the. Tourists who have no blood connections will continue to come, until the situation becomes extremely bad. The Australian and UK governments have already issued travel advisories. However, the tourists, who are from the Tamil Diaspora and are likely a substantial proportion of tourist arrivals, will be wary of coming to Sri Lanka, especially following the Gopi episode and the reactions to the Geneva process. This segment of tourists bring in a lot of foreign exchange into Sri Lanka.

        Dr.RN

The audacity with which these thugs attacked the opposition parliamentarians in front of the police and journalists tells the whole world what the real situation in the country is like. You don’t need Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the USA, UK or even the UNHRC to tell you that because this type of nasty events are splashed across the papers and televisions on a daily basis.

The funny thing is that, despite the glaring evidence in the newspapers, the thug carrying the gun has the temerity to deny it on camera. Despite denial by the son of the dictator, without a doubt this was a “family” sponsored attack as revealed by the gun-toting thug

    Desperateminds,

Thanks to people like you RW has been allowed to lead the UNP, whilst permitting MR to have a field day undisturbed.

The tragedy is the people of this country, who are forced to undergo tremendous suffering because of this self-centred impotent man and his discarded rotten lot refuse to step down from politics.

    • 0
      0

I have been a supporter to neither of them. So you can no means be right here.
UNP^s problems are complex. One of them could be RW. But he would not have been the leader of the party, if LAM, GD and several others would have been living by this day. So putting the entire blame only on RW is not at all fair. RW is a good politicians. Who else would be able to represent UNP ? Do you think Premadasa junior could be a better leader. He is far worst than MR. What kind of political maturity or qualifications has the Prem Junior possesse to lead the nation ? He is an expert of searching nidhan wastu. He can manipulate the masses to the very same manner, MR has been doing. That is the difference between the duo (Premadasa, MR) and RW. Only wayout to defeat thirisana – MR would be a coalition of all opposition parties.

  • 0
    0

Premadasa junior has no qualification to claim the party leadership. Party should call for leadership election, and let the registered membership elect a most fitting dynamic candidate to be the party leader. This should have been done more than a decade ago. The entire old guard should resign permitting young dynamic leader with proven integrity to take over the party. This is the only way the party can win the hearts and minds of the people to get rid of MARA, probably the most self-centered cheat who betrayed the people.

    • 0
      0

      This is no fair.

In today´s context, where even criminals promote only criminals (best example is the UPFA coalition made of heterogenous but predominately criminal personalities), knowing that, to hold an election thorugh voting can bring almost everything upside down. That could also leave the consequence of referendum held by JRJ regime whether or not to get passed something… as i roughly remember.

As seniors of the party are well aware – senior members should nominate the names of their choice and then select the one who has gained all the qualifications to be the leader of the party.

Sajith is not at all a senior person in the party. Just because he has been fighting for it – by hook or crook, he must not be given the leadership of the party of long history. There RW is very right I would say. That would not be no different as the monkey took the barber´s knife.

Besides, that would end up to a manner, today´s superstar idol contests bring their winner, thorugh counting the numbers of phone callers to each of the candidates, leaving all the talents and qualifications aside. I have noticed, very many highly talented are being marginalised and otherw with lower talents become the winners.

Democracy is not that criminals or inappropriate candidates are being elected as the leaders. It should ALSO be a match with the senior management, party history, years long experience etc.

We need the come back lady “Chaura Regina” Bandit Queen, Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge to challenge MR in next Presidential elections.

She along with Rev.Sobitha Thero and all opposition parties united can topple the ruling family dictatorship.

Now is the best time for her to step in and get back to business.

She should take back her party from thieves, thugs and drug dealers.

    We wish her well.

This is undoubtedly another ‘Black Day’ in the country’s history. It signifies what is yet to come in trampling on even the last vestiges of democracy. The pictures show more than the words. The Rajapaksas should take the full responsibility and blame. Without the connivance of the police this could not have happened.

As the statement of Karu Jayasuriya, as the Acting Leader of the UNP says, “This only lends credence to allegations at last month’s UN Human Rights Council sessions that violation of human rights is a regular feature in Sri Lanka. Not only her citizens, but even the rights of lawfully elected Parliamentarians are in danger of being extinct.”

Sri Lanka is no longer a functioning democracy but a dysfunctional one. Nevertheless, its defense and/or rejuvenation should come through the existing democratic and peaceful means however hard. The way out would be the unity of all opposition forces without sectarianism beyond ethnic and religious lines. Equally important would be to rally the democratic forces within the UPFA against the family rule.

    • 0
      0

      Dr. Fernando@,

“Equally important would be to rally the democratic forces within the UPFA against the family rule “

How can we expect democratic forces within the UPFA to be against Rajapakshe rule, while we not a single minister of his cabinet dares to act independetly ? Latter is the reason, mahadanamutta to personally take part in any kind of public ceremonies (not limited to New years) but others such as school labs, rooms, toilets etc.

      • 0
        0

        Sama,

I know it is hard and even the suggestion might appear as conciliatory. But in my opinion it is important. If the personal control or supervision is the reason, as you have identified, there can be natural resentment on the part of at least some. But I think there can be other reasons like lack of alternative, pecuniary interests, faithfulness to the party or poor commitment to democracy. Viable alternative is something that the opposition should develop.

I don’t know whether you are an active player in politics or not. However, it might be important for some mediators within the opposition to organize a series of seminars for example to discuss issues such as “How to Resurrect Democracy,” “What is the Role of the Opposition,” “A Platform for a Common Opposition” etc. This kind of a series of seminars ideally should lead to a Conference of the Opposition. If these can be achieved before the next (election) year, it might be a great step.

          Dr.Fernando@,
Thanks. I appreciate. I also belong to the same category you are in (you are in Aus, I am here in EU). And, not an active player in politics, but my position is, I have always been against injustice. I cant sense the emotions of our relatives down there, but me being out of the country, I have no words to express my anger having watched the current video. Most of all, police not to have acted yet against the culprits ( already 2 days after the incident) – absolutely not acceptable.

        • 0
          0

          Dr.Laksri Fernando,

Thanks for your info. All I want to know is what should be the strategy of UNP to file for Compensation from all these hooligans, Mattala Airport, Hambanthota Harbour, Namal Rajapakse, Hambanthota Mayor and MR’s Police coolies, and punishments.

What I herd was that the Five UNP MP’s are going to file five different Lawsuits individually against the marauders and poice.

Also they are planning to bring this to the attention of internatonal and CW Lawyers.

What I suggest is both UNP and other opposition parties should join together and bring a no confidence motion in Parliament against Rajapakse Government and the Police Department for their inaction. They could demand to sack all the police personnel invoved along with the Police spokesman and the IGP from their posts.

Also I strongly believe that both President and Namal Rajapakse are behind this episode. If so both of them should face criminal charges although MR has immunity.

Also both UNP and opposition parties could educate Maha Sanga on this and to continue protests in Parliament and street protests until Govt. punishes culprits and pay them huge compensation.

Also both UNP and opposition Parties should boycott Parliament until justice and compensation are paid.

I suggest UNP should bring a Lawsuit against both Mattala Airport and the Hambanthota Harbour for allowing these Thugs to enter inside their premises which are High security zones.

UNP could sue both Mattala Airport and the Hambanthota Harbour for One Billion rupees each for allowing thugs to enter and harass them, while not giving protection.

Also UNP could sue Police Department for One Billion Rupees for not coming to their assistant.

Many more Law suits could be filed against the Mayor, Namal and the thugs on this episode.

This is the best time and occasion for UNP to show it’s true Elephant and Green colours to the Voters and to the world.

Let’s see how they take actions.

Thank God Ranil the “sleeping beauty” is away.

If I add few What I herd was the Five UNP MPs are plannng to

This is a “Mob Attack” on visitors (whether it is made of Parliamentarians or ordinary citizens)who have obtained permission to enter the Government Institutions. As seen by the picture footage and video clips the perpetrators of the mayhem could be identified easily.

It is left to the affected parties to make a formal complaint to the police and other relevant authorities and see to that necessary legal action is taken against the alleged criminals. This is very important, because everyone must follow the legal system and showcase the proper procedure is followed. If in the event the “Law Enforcement Authorities drag their feet, it is a case that very much reflects on the Government’s inability and unwillingness to maintain law and order in the country. That situation does prevail without a doubt; but it will keep on adding the instances to show how the authorities neglect their duty of “Good Governance”.

Already one of the involved parties has made a public announcement stating that he would resign from the position of Mayor of Hamabantota if the President ask him to do so. So it goes to prove how the “local political leadership” is sponsored and cared for by the “Big Wigs”. This is the stinking low levels the country has been dragged into by the very authorities who are entrusted with the responsibility of “Governing” the peoples’ affairs.

A Black day, and sad! But there is no surprise. When a notorious thug in Beliatta is the president of the country, you have to expect this. And at the same time, UNP, reflect on your own past too. When JRJ was in power, it took one week to mobilize police to stop the 1983 riots (Government complicity for thuggery?). When RP was the president, the country was in fear. Thugs ruled like this. JVP, you too. Look at your past. JHU, BBS, and all that racist crap, you too championed thuggery and intimidation. LTTE, your mess will also be unforgotten.

Now all you thugs reflect upon your past and see how things boomerang on you. At least now, be determined to face lawlessness and state terrorism with restraint, thoughtfulness, and peaceful disobedience.

      Thrisantha,
I dont think it is right today´s UNP MPs (Ajith Perera, Eran Wickramanayake,Lalith M and the other two) should have to face the revenge for their senior´s ill performances.
And recalling 89 insurgency it was a mixture at a time (JVP youth unrest, Premadasa thuggish politics, student unrest, civil war against LTTE other rebells etc)

But today, the country is free from LTTE terror, JVP terror but only terror before the nation is – Rajapakshe terror (THAT IS FAR dangerous THAN IT APPEARED TO BE). In today´s context, things could have been settled much easier if the man in power is genuine enough. Latter is unfortunately not far from the knowledge of average folks (70% of the population).

The UNP was sleeping when Churches and mosques were attacked.
The UNP was sleeping when thugs forced to stop Kovil rituals.
The UNP was sleeping when their Buddhist monks were
threatened, insulted and about assaulted and escaped justice
from the scene where police were joy spectators. Now
encouraged by your cowardice, more power is in the exhibition.
Why don’t you go back to sleep and wake up next morning as if
nothing happened ah?Only when the line crossed with you, your
Sarongs are raised? We Muslims have a problem with you too.
Tell us why should we take you serious?Don’t forget that it is
Muslims who saved you at the CMC election. And don’t forget,it
is again the same Muslims largely responsible for your
performance in this PC elections and the cause of humiliation
to the UPFA and how did you respond to the Nippon incident?
Remember that one Rupee is made up of 100 equal cents and
every single cent counts without which Rupee is non-existent.

She made a gun from her own experience from a Janel kuura and put all kind of stuf with (pulver) rathingna dust and she blows it through a firewood and hold it direcktly to the basterd Rilawa. What a thrill. I was always fasinated village boy . Brave Oma. I loved her. but comming to the point The second time on saterdys and sundays my dad and my uncles were at Home. so once the rila Ranchwa came and this time i took the Gun and ask my Dad to supply the Bullet. he fixed the bullet and i fired the fukin Rilawa who try to steel and doharm for our coconut crop. Elas Bastered was shot nicly and fallen from the kingcoconut tree. I was happy and that was my first shot to a bastered animal seems to be so innocent today i have a simpathy and understand the basik need of the Rilawa and his right to come to my crop and have a drink and eadt the kurumba-made. But one rilawa okay … all the time i canot tolarate to whole gangs and gatoos of Rila ranchu…Ado fernando or any Ado Bados of deep south has had a gun or a gulkatas. Later i found a revolver hidden by my Dad up in the roof secrdly. amunitions- the holy Bullets were found burried while i was digging a meeter Pit to put Bananas under earth to get rief. I had a rivivel in my village. The familybelongs to Fischmongers and very anti social. This Ahiguntikas alwasy makes trouble and spell all notorious wordsfor a simple thing. One the Hed of this Fischmongers came drunk Kassipu Gahala..and did a drama near by my house minimising and digrading our family. This was a basterd to me and my innocent Grand ma was angry but she was bit vice and drag me to Kussiya and kept me calm. But the sound become more and my pations broken and i sad my Grndma … Hey you if you do nothing now i ll perform. you cannot let allow Rilawa to eat our crop. so as to this Primitive sinhala Fischmonger at Nilwella. If yours could represent entire southern folks – UNHRC should have investigated you guys already decades ago. So, please dont spread falsehoods about them. Nature has given you guys a mouth peace, but dont try to abuse it – for heavens sake. Believe or not come around go around will show you the way if not now, in the future. Needless to say, there are masses that I believe are decent people living in Southern part of the country.

What a cheek for the UNP fellas to think that they can just stroll into a chinese overseas territory without first getting a visa from the chinese high commission. These guys need to be taught protocol first so that they don’t embarrass our friends who may think we are spying on them.
