The United National Party has named Sajith Premadasa as their Presidential candidate a short while ago. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe proposed UNP deputy leader, Minister Sajith Premadasa’s name for presidential candidacy. The nomination was unanimously approved during the UNP Working Committee meeting held at Sirikotha this evening.

You fell for my comment. Didn’t you? I don’t expect Keselwatta Kid to be better than Sirisena (to me he doesn’t possess the intellectual capacity to be at the helm. His dad was much better prepared). However it opens a small window to push UNP slightly to the center from the extremely right wing policies of RW (hence my elation). It also might provide space to weaken the power concentration on the leader within UNP (there are now obvious two blocks within the party). It might dampens TNA’s separatist strategy to an extent too (hopefully). However the problem is Keselwatta Kid is still being propped up by the discredited gang of Mangy, Malik et al. That doesn’t bode well for the country. However Ranil must be congratulated for arriving at the compromise in order not to split the UNP like what Sira and CBK did to SLFP (Sira did it in style at the last parliamentary elections).

He spent millions of public money to house a Media Unit at Temple Trees for
publicity. What he does not say at meetings are included in the news releases
put out three times a day.
He usurped the powers of President Sirisena and behaved like the head of state.
He favoured only a group of ministers, particularly those he liked for personal
reasons. Other than those, the ministers who supported him were guys who
were corrupt and have been making money. Ranil Wickremesinghe was presiding
over a corrupt empire. He lost his image as Mr Clean. Now he has lost his stature
and status.
The best thing he could do is, go, in the name of God and Country, please leave
and allow non corrupt patriotic people to run this country to bring bacnk normalcy
and peace. Someone can only confer the title Devious Manipulator on him and
not Deshamanya.
