Video: The Fascist Monks Of Sri Lanka

The ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar has shocked the world and drawn attention to rising Islamophobia in Asia. Now Muslims in Sri Lanka are under dire threat as well.

The similarities with Myanmar are striking and foreboding. Buddhist monks are at the forefront of the rising hatred, the government is taking sides against Muslims and attacks have begun.

Full scale violence is threatening to break out to create another catastrophe for Muslims in the region. There have already been a series of attacks on mosques and Muslim places of work.

Hard line, ultra nationalist groups led by Buddhist monks such as Buddhist Strength Force (BBS) and Sinhala Echo preach the same message as those of the Buddhist Rakhine in Myanmar: “Muslims are taking over, they are building too many mosques and are trying to destroy our culture.”

On this week’s INFocus we document the rising crisis in Sri Lanka and attempt to bring the world’s attention to the issue before it’s too late.

No amount of building Mosques will destroy Buddhism in Sri Lanka, like the Activities of these so-called ‘Buddhist’ Extremists! I am a practising Follower of the Buddha’s Dhamma, and born to a Sinhala speaking Family, but I am now ashamed to call myself a Sinhala Buddhist!

If one is confident of his own religion or faith and practices it sincerely and honestly he need not fear that his religion/faith is under threat from another. These Monks are not truly trying to promote the teachings Buddhism bur are working to fulfill someone else’s political agenda which is clear from their jumping from one issues to another, even about the 13th Amendment which is political and nothing to do with Buddhism.

I truly agree with you. I don’t know why the Sinhala Buddhist majority cannot understand that it is the Rajapakse Family who are seeking protection behind this BBS, Rawana, Rawaya after being exposed to the world of all the Corruptions, war crimes, Murder and thuggers.

Fearing for their own survival now they resort to make the whole country suffer. Already the people are at much worse situation now than during the war.

This is a Rajapakse systematic approach to distruct the whole country to cover up their blood by instigating communal violance.

Already the Red line is been crossed using Foreign funding and a Communal/Religious/ Race volcano could errupt anytime with another 1983 like progrom.

It is time someone should come foreward and reveal the truth to the country, so we could stop another Blood shed.

This is nothing but Buddhist Sinhala Terrorism instigated by the Rulers upon it’s own people.

What is sad is we are ruled by a government who’s police officers look up when the mobs lead by these saffron clad imposters run riot.

It is up to the Mahanayakes to take action against these “Men in Saffron Robes” who are doing their utmost to desecrate the Buddha’s Dhamma! More and more Buddhists will be tempted to leave the Sasana if these Men are allowed to continue in their destructive Way! Thai Sanghanayakes take action against unholy Monks, in Thailand. Is there no such recourse possble in Sri Lanka?

This is indeed the answer to the problem

This whole saga has got me to really get to know the eminent senior monks of this country and they are most certainly worthy of respect and reverence of not only Buddhists but others as well.

Anyways the PM (and minister Buddhasasana) has already proposed something:

          http://www.island.lk/index.php?page_cat=article-details&page=article-details&code_title=82032

My view is that not everyone is fit for monk hood, infact anyone who lives truely by the principles of monk hood is a very special individual worthy of respect (as these virtues are universal). It is absolutely inconceivable that we could find individuals in the 100s of thousands in a country of 15M buddists who could live buy those lofty standards worthy of Sainthood.

Mahanayakes were silent when all the nefarious activity took place since 1948.They do not have any influence over the public.Soma thero with his perverted Buddhism had some sort of an inlfluence, but then he was bumped off for the jokers to enter parliament

Let the muslims preach as the koran says, that too applies to Paedo monks who preach and prey on women and children. The koran says they can have as many women but in buddhism EH! ABSTAIN FROM ANIMAL THOUGHTS. So what’s gone wrong in buddhism? who had REWRITTEN the holy books of lord buddha? who is preaching nonsensical buddhism to suit the modern day greedy monks.Time to wake up, say NO to modern day vulgar intoxicated greedy paedophillic monks and follow the true buddhism . Then what is true buddhism? Explain? Cheaters the drug dealers and the hora mudalalies have a place to clean their sins (in their mind)by donating land and money to these greedy monks in the name of religion. If we have clear conscions we do not need to feed the devils.Feed the poor. Then who made the poor to be poor? Again it’s the same old cycle of viciousness.

Why the authorities stay as if they are deaf and blind – nobody would get it.
Today some monks – perhaps, they are disguised as buddhist monks – confessing to Derana TV lately that those have to drink alcohol or run amok in finding some issues in our day today life. Ghanasara most violent, disguised monk went on saying, just dodging the question whether he was drunk at the time, he himself drove a vehicle injuring two innocent – he dares to behave so – while all other most respected monks stay blind. Today, anyone can do anything violently, not respecting the human values, situation has become violent friendly. …. IF RULERS ARE GENUINE why not they interfere in such issues wholeheartedly ? Telling further we are all srilankens, but harming the muslims further – is not acceptable.

The fascist monks of Lanka institutionalized in the form of the BALU SENA (BBS) were created and institutionalized by the white van murderer Gotabaya Rajapakse – so-called secretary of defense who is a killer like is protege ex- DIG Vas Gunawardena.
The Rajapakse brothers and sons are criminal thugs who have nurtured the Balu Sena in order to protect their dictatorship and distract people from the fact that they (Rajapassa family) are PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1 in Sri Lanka today.
Balu Sena’s attacks on Muslims, Christians and Hindus and Buddhism itself a peaceful religion – is a means to DIVIDE, DISTRACT and RULE Sri Lanka and turn it into a military dictatorship with the Rajapakse criminals at the helm. Time for the Sinhalaya Modayas to wake up and kick of the Lanka SPRING!

It is just that the leader of the country is spineless man, as minister of justice points out – they are rather fear of loosing their votes – there they dont know consider the security of the muslims.

This is the first time, I happened to listen to what THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE has to say about the critical situation in the country. He could have expresseed himself long before. He is also one another voiceless man in the cabinet – just a caricature controlled by dishonest president.

This I find a great video. At least now many would know how our buddhist monks attack their own people ( muslims, hindu, buddhists we are all srilankens).

This Gnasara should leave srilanka leaving us all peaceful people to stay with peace and harmony. How dare he say- that Dambulla or any other cruel incidents that came to light all these months were all lies…. these buggers in saffron robes are not better to the brutal regime.

BBS should be just a business with western funds.

Watch the video with much more concentration, these people led by one another brutal man but in Saffron robe are becoming similar to what I experienced in the south of the country in late 80ties. Alone seeing passing hate and aggressive speeches by the pseduo monk Gnasara reminds me he cant be a monk. Actually, if one would listen to him clearly, none of what he is trying to magnify is a part of lanken society today.

Even in this video, I myself see that police is watching while vandalistic monks throwing stones to damage cameras, but they dare to say, no…. there is nothing like violence are there…

WHere is the justice on this country today ?

Ghansara should be arrested if not by lankens by international airports for what he has planned to do next.. which will not be less than what JVPers carried out in the country, late 80ties, taking the lives of over 50K youth.

The facist nature of these organisations are well exposed. It is surprising that they receive the tacit approval of Head of State and Defence Establishment for their criminal activities. No action is taken against them acording to the laws of the land.

    • 0
      0

You can see the similarities between the Burmese thugs and bbs. Anti Halaal T shirts looked similar to what the Burmese Thugs were wearing.

I feel sad that Buddhists in Sri Lanka have become so low in their thinking. It looks like they are funded by the businesses who would profit by the closure of Muslim business- See the timing of the Fashion Bug attack. Just before the New Year sales. We should be able to guess who is behind this. It is not all Sri Lankans, it is the selected few who are behind BBS

Please don’t judge all Buddhists by BBS. Most of us dislike the way BBS is behaving and we all know he is a drunkard. The way he behaved on the high way when he was caught by the traffic police.

There are good Buddhists and bad ones, similarly there are bad Muslims and good Muslims. I only hope that we do not give into all the bad ones.

The objective is to win acceptance for violence and especially violence against minorities, even minorities amongst the Sinhala Buddhists leading ultimately to the extermination of all these minorities.

So what are the minorities supposed to do? Any resistance on their part is terrorism and sri lanka is the first state to eradicate terrorism so minorities resisting violence will be eradicated as terrorists. In fact resisting state violence is terrorism in sri lanka just as it is in the USA and UK and India and any other state.

So what are the minorities supposed to do? Joining the minority that gets diagnosed as being mentally ill is a fairly good response especially if one has links to the medical profession. The number of dissidents taking shelter under the cover of madness is impressive all over the world and the medical profession must be honored for its courage in sheltering and giving asylum to dissidents belonging to all sorts of minorities. But this is not going to work for those who wish to pursue their careers, get married, have families and live ‘normal’ lives.

It is not just in Sri Lanka, but everywhere in the world. Look at the way muslims are treated in many countries. So what are the minorities to do?

To me worst thing about Sinhalese Buddhists are how comfortable are they when telling lies, denying what they have done.. No uneasiness in their faces either, so comfortable in lying.
The politician who made a school teacher kneed in front of his daughter denied ever seen that teacher or being at that school on that day. They are so many Sinhalese people around him ready to testify his claims
These BBS monks, SL politicians are much better people than our MAMAS and NANDAS who made BBS or politician so ugly.

Probably your making the comment to see what is the response and identify who are responding. Then the local NSA does the balance…

Soma Hamudurowo did some Islamic studies and found that Buddhism also should have some thing similar to Sharia and since then it has been a process of shariazation of Buddhism. Even teams of monks have visited Iran to study the systems there and were very impressed. So the team is working towards a Buddhist Sharia to be implemented in the island.

Most of the Muslims do respect Gautama Buddha and his teachings and some even prefer to consider him as a messenger even if there is no hard proof.
Yes Muslims are not saints and you may criticize them. But be careful when you touch Islam because it can destroy “your version of Buddhism” left, right and center. The safest is to stick to Gautama Buddha’s Buddhism and that will bring you much closer to Muslims than you can imagine…

Great kings have fallen, great nations have fallen. Its just a matter of time before this regime and the BBS and Ravana Balaya too fall. If we look at the history of the world we have seen such things. While the end is definite, the suffering before the end is immense. We can only reduce the negative impact of the suffering during the period of suffering only by educating the masses.

First they attacked the Tamils for education and now Muslims for Bussiness.
This is an absolute ethnic cleansing by Sinhalese.
An average Sinhalese wants this country to be a 100% Sinhala-Buddhist country.
If you go back to the history, when the Jaffna library was burned and when a Tamil Parliment minister raised a question about it, a sinhala minister directly said “If you(Tamils) are not comfortable in this country you may go back to your Motherland(India)”
and even today the youngsters are being driven by racism, the best example is that two grade 8 students, one Sinhalese and the other Muslim have went on in an arguement about the current issue on ethnic problem, and it has ended up in Sinhala boy bashing the Muslim on the floor and his spinal code and head are severely damaged and he is now invalid of life.
If this state continue, it would probably be a Deja vu of ’83 but this time Muslims.

and here’s the best bit: once this “pure buddhist state” is achieved, the nationalists and the BBs and their ilk will focus on their own- looking tp persecute Buddhists who are not “buddhist enough” or “sinhala enough”. exactly like saudi with their “religious police”.

the appalling levels of ignorance among (especially) the sinhalese when it comes to world history and overall world view is amazing. say what you want about our “90% literacy rate”, but if all you can do is get a degree and then not know why racism is bad- not only has the education system failed, but society has too.

This silly journalist should investigate Islamic-sponsored child trafficking in his own country, England, or why Muslims in UK have demanded Sharia Law. He should investigate claims by prominent British demographers that Birmingham and London will eventually become Muslim-majority cities. Sharia Law and unrestricted (Muslim) population growth are two of the points made by the monk at the end of the clip. Clearly, these issues are not unique to Sri Lanka. Even with regards to halal, Germany banned halal in 1995 , although this ruling was later overturned. Sri Lanka is simply experiencing what Europe is experiencing, albeit on a smaller scale. England, Spain, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Belgium…. all of these countries are coping with major socio-economic problems caused exclusively by the absolute inability of Muslims to assimilate into the larger society. And that is only one continent. All that BBS can do is raise awareness… BBS does not march with weapons. Whether this awareness will suffice remains to be seen. The real conflict will occur when the Muslim demographic has reached a high point, and the call for separatism is backed by jihad.

Halal related issue in Germany is far from what you interpreted here…. you seem to be talented at turning thing according to your advantage…

German court ends Muslim slaughter ban

German Muslims have been importing halal meat
Germany’s highest court has ruled that Muslim butchers should be allowed to slaughter animals according to Islamic practice – by slitting their throats and letting them bleed to death.
German law says animals cannot be slaughtered without first being stunned, except for religious reasons.

A German court had ruled in 1995 that Islam did not necessarily demand ritual slaughter, making the practice illegal.

We hope this will be an important step in the integration of Muslims in Germany

      Head of German Islamic Council
But the constitutional court has now overturned that decision, in a case brought by a Turkish butcher from the German town of Giessen.

The judges ruled that some branches of the Muslim community were indeed obliged to eat religiously-slaughtered meat.

They said a blanket ban could not be imposed on the practice.

The previous decision, they said, had amounted to unacceptable interference with professional freedom, as Muslims were in effect prevented from working as butchers.

After the 1995 ruling, many of Germany’s three-million Muslims began buying in halal meat from abroad.

I feel the animal protection side was given too little weight

      Animal rights campaigner
“Muslims in Germany imported meat from Belgium, France, Britain and other countries,” said the head of Germany’s Islamic Council, Hasan Oezdogan.

“Now much more meat will be produced locally.

“We hope this will be an important step in the integration of Muslims in Germany,” he added.

Animal rights campaigners have condemned the judges’ decision.

“The case pitted freedom of religion on one side against animal rights and I feel the animal protection side was given too little weight,” said one campaigner, Eisenhart von Loeper.

When you ban halal, you ban halal. There is only one kind of halal. The animal is turned towards Mecca (where Allah is waiting with the mouth wide open), and its throat is cut. The animal then bleeds to death slowly. If the person slitting the animals throat is an amateur, then it may take several cuts to finally hit the jugular vein, causing even more pain to the animal. This is a barbaric way to kill an animal. If you think it is okay to kill animals in this way, then you should convert to Sunni Islam. Your brothers in Syria are already busy chopping off heads:

        http://syriareport.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/beheaded.jpg

Do you also respect the right of Muslims to chop off heads? It is part of Sharia Law. Go and discuss with Rizanna Nafeek’s family first, then come and give your answer.

          To CT MODERATORS.
In terms of item 10 of your comments policy I wish to draw your attention to @ LESTER’S islamaphobic contributions. These Contributions are neither intelligent nor does it contribute to a constructive environment.

I think greater exercise of your COMMENTS POLICY must be applied on this contributor who has already been removed from GROUNDVIEWS. What more evidence do you require than his views on the various threads to prove that he has violated the guidelines of your COMMENTS POLICY

personal attacks (on authors, other users or any individual), persistent trolling and mindless abuse
          Uses smear tactics.
Extremely offensive and does not respect other people’s views and beliefs and does not consider the impact on others.
Descends into flame-wars based on ingrained partisanship and generalization.
Hate-speech, @Lesters contributions can easily be interpreted as such. Lester constantly attacks people ( 99 percent of the time Muslims) on the basis of their race, religion, sex, gender.
Irrelevant and off-topic as @Lester does not miss an opportunity to connect Islam and the Noble Prophet denigrating his character in the vilest of terms sans any relevance. This amounts to hurting the religious susceptibilities of all the Muslim Contributors on this forum. While appreciating his freedom of expression @Lester crosses the limits at will slandering the character of the Noble Prophet spewing lies, distorting facts and quoting the Quran out of context. @lesters vicious disregards to the traditions and heritage of 1400 years in the past and to judge them based on HIS modern ideas of Morality and ethics displays another of his hate traits towards Islam and Muslims.

I trust that our objections will be given due consideration. If you require us to submit examples of @Lesters violations we will only be too glad to submit same.

Poor Jamal has completely lost his mind and is now issuing fatwas. :)

In any case, 99.9% of the dirty comments, impersonations of other users, and slander of other religions on this website is done by Muslim commentators. The inability to construct a grammatically correct English sentence is a dead giveaway.

The core argument here is not the use of grammatically perfect English but the total disregard for the Religious beliefs of people, thus flouting CT’s comments policy. This is another example of irrelevance I referred to. It is sheer luck that every time you fault the rules the moderator is napping. I only requested that the COMMENTS POLICY be strictly applied as you were going berserk. David confirms that you were blacklisted in GROUNDVIEWS writing under the Pen name Heshan, for IMPERSONATION. Pointofview confirms that you were kicked out of S.ARABIA. Instead of making up silly stories, you should answer the central question: why did Prophet Muhammed marry a 9 yr old girl when he was 52? Did Allah tell him to do it? Or was it just a bad case of diarrhea.

…… you should answer the central question: why did Prophet Muhammed marry a 9 yr old girl when he was 52? Did Allah tell him to do it? Or was it just a bad case of diarrhea.

The question of the Prophet Muhammed’s marriage did not arise in this thread at all. However the fact that you cheated your employer in Saudi Arabia and that you were kicked out of that country and also that you were spotted begging was mentioned by POINT OF VIEW and CHAMPUKE. You can show some relevance to the topic under discussion by addressing these concerns instead of your usual deflectionary tactics. Additionally as stated by David you were booted out of GROUNDVIEWS attempting to impersonate DBS JEYARAJ under the nom de plume HESHAN.

Lester brings arguments that have no substance at all. His key motive is to attack muslims. May be for some single reasons, he hates the muslims. If he is a buddhist, how can he behave such ? Buddhism has not taught to attack anyone. Avihinsa is the top of their agenda. In an epoch, where Ghanasara (cannibalism) and the like minded ones in saffron robes trying to mobilise against their fellow country men, by spreading all falsehood based on their theories… like contraceptive pills are being filled in toffees or any other sweets – have they got proved all these ? If muslim shop keepers sell such stuffs containing those constituents, food and beverage authorities can prove them easily using today^s analytical methods like chromatography.

Lester is an Islamaphobe – He is not a rational thinker.

His ability to think rationally is blinded by HATE. Therefore it is just pointless even reading his comments.

please it is useless to answer Lester^s questions related to Islam. He is a provable idiot who has only hatred specially on muslims. Just ignore, we as buddhists, we can see it repeatedly happening here, Lester is unique with his arguments being far from any proofs or references. Absolutely sorta low level person that keep trying to chase muslims for nothing. He cant be a buddhist by any means. I really dont think if anybody that keep trying to disgrace other reglions as buddhists.

Regardless of the contents, he always comes with disgusting comments – is not at all bearable to anyone here. Earlier this was the case with Leela, but she is disappeared now – may well be Lester is former Leela.

Rizana^s family issue was a most evident failure of the ruling govt to have proved that they dont make hearted efforts in such as that specially. Rulers just do things to show that they act, but in the reality – they can turn every evil act into positive one.

Latest example is the incident a teacher was asked to knelt down before an uneducated pradeshiya saba MP in the country not even few weeks ago. Today, the rulers and their media men have now turned the incident as the victim of the incident to stay insecure. Court actions of this matter is similar to that of Mervin^s taking the law to his hand.

How was it a failure on the Sri Lankan Government’s part? Rizanna was executed under Sharia Law, after the “victims” family refused blood money. But you being a “good Muslim” refuse to blame Sharia Law, instead choosing to go after Rajapakse.

            • 0
              0

Lester, if not for the compassionate action of the Asian Human Rights Commission, not even a legal appeal would have been made on Rizana’s behalf, after that terrible sentence was pronounced. And even then it was lodged only just in time. The Sri Lankan government did not care to do this on behalf of an obviously innocent (and underaged) girl who was driven by poverty to take up the job of a housemaid — skivvy and maid of all work.

This section of our people take great risks when going into unknown situations far away at the level of domestic workers. And our Embassies seem to be inadequately staffed to cater to their needs and come to their help when necessary. All our governments have been quite happy about the huge return to this country in foreign exchange from these people’s labours, but are very reluctant to spend anything on them. Rizanan’s case was no ordinary criminal case (and would not have set any kind of precedent for a tight-fisted administration). Many people doubted her guilt and it was certainly a case where the govt should have felt concerned enough to transfer a pittance from the millions it spends on tamashas for her defence. Instead, it wasted money on useless visits of not particularly high levels ministers, who all had better things to do when they landed in SA.

Unfrotunately, even the AHRC was not able to raise enough funding to hire a better lawyer than the one taken on (engaged most likely by the Embassy who were on the spot). That man did not speak or understand English or Tamil and could not communicate directly with his client. His wife knew a little English, I believe, but that was hardly sufficient. Reading the Arab press reports it seemed, too, that he was not forceful enough and also did not bring up a number of vital issues.

There is a lot that can be brought up, actually, to back the claim that our govt seems to have failed this poor young girl in her moment of need.

Lester, everyone that would have other opinions means not that they should be buddhists. I am a born buddhist and will die as a buddhist, but I am anti anti BBS or any rulers that play with the lives of the innocent people.

In RiZANAS case, what revealed to everyone was, that GOSL did not even provide them with interpreters or lawyers as Saudi govt officials asked lanken counterparts to do so. It is revealed lanken delegation sent to Saudi were only abused their travels being wasted state funds.

Poorest of the poor families like that of Rizanna would have no strength to fight against, but there are masses in the country that can fight against corruption. Let alone, the one who is the minister of justice to the country, being a muslim could have done much more in terms of the saving the life of poor girl. He is just a caricature controlled by MR self. It is the sharia law that punished her – underage female servant’s innocence could nevertheless have been proved. – if lanken authorities paid genuine efforts.
This is not the first time, BRUTAL rulers failed to do so,… the case against Duminda silva and the latest issue asking a teacher to kneel down before an uneducated MP… and almost every case that has to do with politicians..

Check more of them in terms of that British murder case:

              FRIDAY, 28 JUNE 2013 11:27
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court today that the case of the murder of British tourist Kuram Shaikh was transferred to Colombo due to the suspects allegedly threatening witnesses.

The case which was initially heard at the Tangalle Magistrate’s court was taken up in Colombo today after the Attorney General’s department requested the transfer on special grounds.

The suspects which include the Chairman of the Tangalle Prageshiya Sabha who were released on bail previously were ordered to appear before court on November 1.(FT)

Now Rizanna is beheaded and nobody can bring her life back.

But what about the over 800 poor house maid being kept on Saudi camps – it is said that these poor LANKEN women are the easy target lanken authorities to abuse them. These women have rights to return to their home country if they have no jobs there.

President and the govt waste millions of dollars for their foreign travells, why cant the very same rulers fail to address in terms of making all the arrangement these poor people atleast to get back home. Two or 3 flight loads could help them get back. THIS IS A LARGE HUMANITARIAN ACTION…. ACTUALLY Afterall the sake of the community that brought foreign exchange for the country for the last two decades, THEY deserve this kind of great help from the state.

If the state can spend millions of holding night car races, why not the idiots cant do such good work helping own people who hhave become helpless being caught by brutal middle east countries.

All those who have no skills to do such jobs should be sent to those countries even if they have poor economic situations in the home country – I have met arabs in Europe, that knew lanka just as a country that provided them with the housemaids /sex objects.

              Manel Fonseka:

I agree with you that the Government could have done more to help Rizanna. And that more should be done, in general, to assist maids going overseas. These are all valid points. However, in regards to Rizanna, the fundamental question is not that of her guilt, or who did what to save her, but the barbaric manner of execution. In no other religion except Islam is this punishment justified or even condoned.

We must ask, how a young woman, in the 21st century, can be beheaded in the eye of the public, with the whole world watching.

We must ask what is this philosophy that condones beheading as effortlessly as a grasshopper glides through the fields:

Mahinda Rajapakse did not kill Rizanna Nafeek. Mahinda Rajapakse neither condones nor subscribes to Sharia Law. The fact of the matter is, Rizanna was born a Muslim, but could expect more justice in Buddhist Sri Lanka than any Muslim nation. And the proof is simple: had she stayed in Buddhist Sri Lanka, she would be alive today. So, let us not blame Mahinda but put the blame where it belongs.

What matters is what steps MR regime took against this poor girl being caught by Sharia law..? Her case is reported to be not fair considering her being underage, passport being forged and on many other factors. Nobody under 18 could be convicted to behead according to a world convention that Saudi had already sign years back.

How stupid mentality you LESTER should bear to argue in this way ? MR regime is a failure so far they dont have any prinzip, nor would he respects international communities. His inferior complex is expressed on his genes. There nobody would fail do go against that. THat is the nature his alike dictators on this world.

Had all women stayed in SL, no foreign exchange could have brought to the country.. according to your argument… just ridiculous…
We dont need to bother with their SHARIA or any other laws, so long we could function according to international norms. Today, we are caught by a draconian leader whose actions will leave no space for democratic values in the country.

Are you Sunni Islam? If so, there is no point in explaining to you about why beheading is wrong. Like I said, you people chop off heads as easily as you breathe air. Just yesterday, two kidnapped Christian bishops were beheaded by your Sunni brothers in Syria. Forget international norms, Sunni Islam is a cult that only believes in Sharia.

“This silly journalist should investigate Islamic-sponsored child trafficking in his own country, England, or why Muslims in UK have demanded Sharia Law.”

What he investigates is his business, not yours. If you want to investigate something in the UK, go for it.

“He should investigate claims by prominent British demographers that Birmingham and London will eventually become Muslim-majority cities.”

As Sri Lankans, why does that concern us?

“Even with regards to halal, Germany banned halal in 1995 , although this ruling was later overturned.”

It was overturned by the European Court of Human Rights, so that should give you an indication of the grounds for the reversal. If not, I could explain it to you, or draw you a picture.

“all of these countries are coping with major socio-economic problems caused exclusively by the absolute inability of Muslims to assimilate into the larger society.”

The inability of Muslim immigrants to assimilate into societies in which they often don’t speak the language. In SL, Muslims are not foreigners or immigrants and share a local language. As usual Untersturmfuhrer Heshan is comparing apples with oranges.

“The real conflict will occur when the Muslim demographic has reached a high point, and the call for separatism is backed by jihad.”

Sadly retards such as yourself are not in SL to face that conflict. If you were, we could make sure you’re in the frontline. I’m pretty sure when the actual fighting starts those BBS ponneyas won’t be around to do any fighting either.

You have to be ignorant and resort to lies to keep the continuous bigotry and violence going. These uneducated thugs are a disgrace to their own religion and teachings. They bring shame to their religion, their own people and to the country. Only haters will agree with what is going on in Myanmar. The rest of the world will condemn ALL violence against minorities. The Rajapaksa’s are a disgraceful band of thugs, who have stayed silent and deliberately allow these thugs to incite, and act violently against innocent people.

It is equally disgusting that other parties, including the Muslim party, are strangely silent and not speaking out.

Your Sunni brothers in Syria have gotten foreign funding to do jihad – aka rape, chop off heads, and enforce Sharia Law in every part of Syria they capture. Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and now the West is also supporting them with money and weapons.

So, why can’t BBS get “foreign funding” for their 100% peaceful awareness campaign? We know how Saudi Arabia funds mosque construction all around the world, as part of jihad… unfortunately, Sinhalese people are not so united, except in Sri Lanka.

“So, why can’t BBS get “foreign funding” for their 100% peaceful awareness campaign?” Because anyone else who touches so much as a one dollar note is branded “traitor” and “NGO kaarayo”, accused of taking funds from Western powers to destroy Lanka (whether or not that is actually the case). Even Hitler, as the worst bigot and racist madman to ever exist had principles- your kind, however, seems to have none- accuse everybody else of a crime, then do that crime yourself; if anyone points it out, have him also called a fascist and a traitor.

There is a legitimate fear among the Sinhalese that theirs is a dying race. In fact the Sinhala language if I remember right is listed by the UN as one destined to go extinct. Growing up in Sri Lanka I used to travel down south with my father to his home town where we owned a little paddy and rubber land. My father would point out to landmarks as we traveled by bus which were originally Sinhala owned which was now Muslim owned. We could visually trace the change in the landscape as we traveled into the country the gradual advance of Muslim owned homes and businesses. So the perception that there is a threat from the Muslim community is not entirely untrue.

There is an overriding problem on the planet which is linked to almost every other problem and that is over population. Our planet cannot sustain the number of people it currently has and give all of them a decent living standard. There is a need to curb growth rates in population. Unfortunately voluntary programs have led to disproportionate outcomes. Whereas the Sinhalese families in general do not have any religous reasons to not use contraception do and have smaller families which are desirable for many reasons however, most Muslim families do not. This is also the case for certain ultra orthodox Catholics. This is how over time the Sinhalese population seems to have dwindled while the minorities seem to have advanced. The proof is on the ground for any one to see. So how does one deal with this problem ethically and humanely rather than going off in the most idiotic uneducated manner such as the BBS? I can think of one country that seems to have got this one right and that is China.

I can think of one country that seems to have got this one right and that is China.

How ironic… China is also having a Muslim problem.

“A China knife attack has brought warring conflicts between different ethnic groups to the forefront this week, as UPI reported this Thursday, June 27, that that an estimated 27 people were killed in a bloody riot in western China on Wednesday morning. A conflict between Uighur Muslim groups and the Han Chinese is believed to be the possible source of the violence.”

      http://www.examiner.com/article/china-knife-attack-27-dead-riots-muslim-strains-with-han-chinese

I leave it up to you to reconsider your perspective. :)

Haramanis though I do not agree with your conclusions I appreciate the manner in which you express your fears. I believe that you have been brainwashed by the heavy onslaught of vicious propaganda supporting these beliefs. With this mindset then, I am not surprised that you suffer such fears. However, be that as it may, let us address ourselves to some facts. Most Muslims of this generation have an average of two children. This is so of my own relatives and close friends. Some of them are childless and some have three as maximum. I believe the same applies to most of my Sinhala friends. So my conclusion is that this practise is not motivated by religious considerations but rather by an economic or due to practical considerations. The poor classes may have bigger families due to inadequate guidance but certainly not due to motivated religious pursuation. This I can vouch for in the case of Muslims since our gatherings community wise are on Fridays and I have never heard a sermon in support of family expansion for this purpose. Loss of numbers in demography are not solely due to population explosion in one particular group. Religious conversions, emigration, the war also are possible reasons. A proper research has to be done to find reasons. If there is concern of any particular group then action must be taken in a civilized way to allay those concerns. Violence based on rumors, distorted facts will never succeed in the final analysis.

As regards change of ownership why should that be set against the ethnicity of the new owner? It only expresses lack of managerial skill of your community to preserve ownership. Similarly the gem trade which was predominantly in the hands of Muslims are no more their preserve as it is predominantly Sinhalese now. Much of trade which the Muslims used to excel in have eroded to Sinhala Mudalalis. The Muslims do not cry over this as the Sinhalese have excelled in the new fields the have ventured into. Actually the Muslims have a case being discriminated against in Kadawatte and Kiribathgoda. Remember when Nalim Hadjiar tried to open a supermarket the Sinhalese burnt it down?

As far as I am concerned, I would encourage Muslims to practice family planning and not have many children. As we all know it is the poor, rural and not so educated have many children. So these children are not brought up,but grow up to be unhealthy and uneducated. Sometime ago there was a Muslim woman of 34 who had 8 children died when delivering the 9th child. The father is a salesman. He will of course marry again and I dare not think what would happen to these children in the future. What we need is quality and not quantity. Quantity is only needed for the politicians to get their votes. It is the vote bank that they are particular. After they get the votes they are not concerned with the voters.

BBS gives 5000 for a Sinhala Buddhist family forhaving more than 5 children. I do hope their funders give this money every month to these families.
In contrast I think Muslims should give 5000 for having only 2 children. Look at families with 2 or 3 children, the parents pay attention in bringing up their children. They are educated and healthy. I understand that percentage of Muslim children entering University from large poor families is low compared to those entering prison.

Jews are comparatively few in number and they are capable of choosing the American Presidential candidate- One of the world’s most or the most powerful politician.
Islam is not against family planning if the parents decide. They do not want it imposed by the state, like China.
Having said all this, going by the statistics, Sinhalese should not have fear of this nation becoming a Muslim state. This is pure racism and nothing else.

Lets encourage Muslim women to have less children.

      Haramanis,

On sinhala population issue, there is a question I believe of values and priorities (or in other words culture).

The vast majority of my Sinahala friends chose to build houses, travel around the world, buy luxury cars before they conceived their first child. On the other hand most of the muslims in our circle would conceive fairly early on and struggle to make it through often sacrificing most of the things above. Finally, when these Sinhala friends of mine tried to conceive they had issues as they kept it too late (this is common medical knowlege). A close Sinaha friend who conceived for the first time at 35 told me that 4 out of 10 of his Sinhala friends have this issue.

Having said that it is completely false to say that muslims have 4 to 5 children some people claim. Only difference is we start very early.

This Muslim population threat is just a myth. Read what the Census department said:

This Muslim population threat is just a myth.

How is it a myth when the Census department confirms what BBS is saying? Did you read your own link?

“Answering a query, at a seminar held yesterday, at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute, Mrs. Bandara said that the Sinhala and Muslim populations had increased at the rate of 1.04 and 1.87 per cent respectively between 1981 and 2012.”

So, the Muslim population has grown at twice the rate of the Sinhalese population, relative to the last 30 years. If this trend holds, then Sinhalese will become a minority in their own country. I have said before that this trend is not unique to Sri Lanka. Native British, for example, are projected to become a minority in their own country.

i’m not surprised that you got kicked out of your job. when one cannot work out 1.04 x 2 = 2.08, one is indeed a shitty employee.

that being said, there’s a reason not every fellow on the road is a statistician/epidemiologist. Even with the rudimentary stats i learnt in uni tell me how wrong your (and the BBS’) conclusions are- the growth RATES may be different, but you’re completely ignoring the numbers those rates are affecting- a growth rate of 1.04% among a population as large as the current sinhala one is still much bigger than a rate of 1.87% among the smaller muslim one.

are you following this? can you now understand how wrong you are and attack me on a personal level and call me a “fascist” and “hambaya”?

If the Muslim population is doubling at twice the rate of the Sinhalese population, then the Muslims will overtake the Sinhalese eventually. The timeframe and present proportion of Sinhalese to Tamils is irrelevent. What is most troubling is that this trend is not unique to Sri Lanka, but also characteristic of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Brussels, and many other European cities, where the Muslim birthrate exceeds the native one by at least a factor of two.

By the way, 1.87/1.04 = 1.79 which is very close to two. You have not heard of rounding off; perhaps you should have stayed in school past year 5. Of course I wouldn’t expect a three-wheeler driver (or whatever your present occupation is) to understand statistical error either, which means 1.79 could easily be approximated to 2.

What is even more troubling is the fact that they dont give a shit. They’re not ruining the present well-being of their society or their country by going around calling for ethnic cleansing. This is why they will be first-world countries, and we’ll languish in the third-world category.

1.79% can be rounded up to 2%? in a population growth study? hahahhahahahahahha. man, you’re just some pothe-gura who thinks you know it all, aren’t you? you CANT round up to the nearest figure in such circumstances, you moron- 0.21% in a population study can have a massive difference of millions.

Wow, what an idiot. Every study has statistical error. In this case, the Census probably left out a lot of Muslim families, especially those displaced/affected by the war. So the proportion of Muslim to Sinhalese families is no doubt close to 2. 0.2 does not stand for millions, hahaha, what an idiot.

Here is the final proof of your stupidity:

“Going by the official figures, over the 30-year period between 1981 and 2011, the Muslim population in the country grew by a very high 76.4 per cent – from 1,046,900 to 1,869,800. This compares with the 38 percent increase in the Sinhalese population, from 10,979,400 to 15,873,800. As coincidence would have it the Muslim population in the country is growing at double the rate of the Sinhala majority population.

            Lester, Lester, Lester

            Your quote;

“Answering a query, at a seminar held yesterday, at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute, Mrs. Bandara said that the Sinhala and Muslim populations had increased at the rate of 1.04 and 1.87 per cent respectively between 1981 and 2012.”…..

You conveniently knocked off the rest of the sentence which say:

….”but it was not a threat to Sinhala people contrary to claims being made in some quarters to that effect.”

Trying to mislead as usual eh? :)

You conveniently knocked off the rest of the sentence which say:

The Census Bureau does not have the capacity to decide whether or not the level of population growth is a threath. All they do is collect data. I am only interested in the data, and that is what I have quoted.

Except for farmers, only stupid people feel they must breed like rabbits. It does not make economic sense to have 4 or 5 children. So why are Muslims doing it? Probably because they are not in touch with the times, as usual.

If the BBS is so conserned about Sinhala Population, they should help the poor sinhala families to bring up their children.
I see many news on new borns been dumped in the roadside and put trash bins.
What BBS with the help of GOSL should do is to inform the public on a new born rescue plan collection sectors for desperate mothers and give them financial and material help to bring up their children.

My own feeling is at the moment we have maxed out our small country with population and over crowding will bring more problems.

It is not only bringing up a child, but fulfill all it’s requirements including health, education and employment.

I personally think that some kind of family planning and birth control among all communities should be implemented before it’s too late.

We may have many more Inmates behind bars and rampent curruption, than a working and a productive population if we do not plan population from now on.

Rajapakse Administration made way to loose millions of Jobs, private industry, GSP, Free trade, retail, distribution and service industry and self employed jobs.

President Rajapakses was adding 140,000 Jobs to already a white elephant, mega loss making Govt. sector jobs.
Now the top heavy Govt. find diffricult to pay their salaries and with no productivity to economy.Rajapakse Government ruined our economy and our society.

It’s time to re-think and re-plan our whole Administration, Governing, economy and social structure.

Not only Sinhala friends of yours, but it is common to other folks too. WIth the rise of cost of living, people^s mind sets are not to make kids but to live the life. This is common to many countries today. One of the main factors is cost of living. Even secular islamic states like of Turkey, many of them are now used to practise familiy planning than had been in the past. This will come to Srilanka or any other countries be them muslims or non-muslims. You need to live first to go for making children – I truly believe the situation for many in the island today is run the family with sky high price hikes but not having proper income. Srilanka s standard is not comparable to those of tiger countries (south east asian economies), even if just smaller percentage of the nation are trying to see it different being bit arrogant not seeing what the majority of the country feel when it goes for daily survival. Our per capita is multiple times lower to those of tiger nations. How many of lankens buy a car /house/ … how do you put it as a percentage ? not even 2% percent i guess…

But the truth is it seems average mindsets are not updated with all these facts. How many of the households are connected with internet access ?

How many of the lanken folks are accessed to CT or any other neutral sources of info exchanges ?

How many of the people can see matters impartially based solely based on facts ?

True, this trend is not unique to Sri Lanka or Sinhalese. It is true for Muslims as well. This shift in priorities is a by-product of the materialistic society we have transformed into.

My arguement is it is not entirely a question of being able to afford. All the friends I am talking about are living large. They can easily afford it with some minor compromises. If most of us live the simple lives as we were brought up or when our parents grew up, we can afford to have many more children. It is matter of choice.

            0

It is upto them to decide whether or not to have children for their own. Some may like it some not. Not only in SL, many other countries in developing world, people have not many children for their own looking back to the last decade for example.
Even in SL, as I get to see once a year, people are busy today than had been in the past. Not only unaffordable cost of living rates, but today’s generations may feel to live the life comfortable not being bound as had been then. You can force uneducated masses to make more children but a country whose literacy rate are almost comparable to those of european countries, people would not want to live as their own grand parents or the relatives.

      Haramanis,
According to a census in 1857, the whole population
of the Island was at 1,760,000 and by 1871 it went up
to 2,405,000 and at the time Brook Elliot wrote the
book “the real ceylon”,the population was estimated at
      2,500,000.At this point,Sinhalese were 1,500,000,Tamils
were 820,000 and Muslims were put at 150,000 and the rest
were considered mixed races. Now here you notice Muslims
count one tenth of Sinhalese.1936 estimated census reads
      as follows:Sinhalese-3,775,500,Tamils-1,402,100 and
Muslims-356,700 and again roughly one tenth.2001 census
      reads Sinhalese 73.8%,Muslims 7.2%,Indian Tamils 4.6% and
Srilankan Tamils 3.9% and unspecified 10%.Look at the
facts and make your judgement. These monks are lying to
their unsuspecting devotees to spread fear among them to
      justify their malicious campaign.

you seem to have done your research. as far as you wanted. then you stopped.

take a look at the census results for the past couple of decades all the way back to the 1890s- the muslim population has been growing- but the sinhalese population is so far ahead. This big “oh my god, the muslims are taking over!” madness is mostly because of large scale migrations of muslims into mostly sinhala urban areas. and as for your shop anecdote- you’re blaming muslims for being more successful at commerce than sinhalese people? blame the free market economy, where the better businessman lives, and the inferior one ends up bankrupt. this is the same BS we tried when we realized the Tamils were on average academically better than us- hence the sudden “quota” and “standardization” systems in the 60s onwards.

secondly, when you have only 20 million people speaking a language, i suppose that IS fair grounds for declaring it as being endangered. The solution to this is not to blame other races and torch their houses.

Not just Sri Lanka, India is also facing a similar problem:

“Increase in Muslim population is a problem everywhere. In Kerala, Malappuram district has outgrown all others and they have increased the number of MLAs at the expense of others. Muslim clergy is deliberately prompting the common Muslims to produce more and more children and ultimately capture power democratically. And once it is done, the new minorities (Hindus, Budhists, Christians etc.) will be decimated like in Pakistan and Bangladesh.” – Posted by Omindian

That is from an Indian guy. The last sentence – about the disappearance of non-Muslim minorites from Pakistan and Bangladesh, is particularly interesting.

          0

so what exactly is your solution? pursue some kind of mono-ethnic, mono-religious discriminatory system like saudi? you’re demonizing them AND trying to become them at the same time?

Look at all the places conquered by Islam (through violent means): India, North Africa (too many countries to list), Persia (Iran), Arabia (almost the whole Middle East), Turkey (really belongs to Greece), Spain, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan…

If Sri Lanka is not careful, it will end up on this list.

      Harmanis
My post yesterday already proved that population
increase is balanced and even if it’s not balanced,
it should not be an issue for anyone to worry about
on the basis of race because it amounts to racism
and hatred.Besides,we Muslims and other minorities
have a right to live anywhere of our choice any part
of the island and the majority mentality that is for
centuries being polarized by the selfish monks and the
fully corrupt politicos of all hues is the main culprit
to blame.People sell properties from antiquity, and
people in need buy them, simple as that.Muslims offer
better prices and the deal gets sealed.I give you two
examples that will help you understand the situation
little more clearer.About a mile from Kiribathgoda
junction is, a place called Makola and in Makola is,a
village called Fathima garden of around thousand people
who are all Muslims. One lady from Colombo, bought this
land, blocked out and sold it to highest bidders.Sinhalese
sold the land and Muslims bought it and nobody robbed it
or annexed it.In Weligama, about one mile from the town
is a place called Panatiyana watte,a 10 acre coconut estate
owned by former minister Montague Jayawickrama. It was
in the neighborhood of Muslims,”The finance” bought it and
went in blocks.More than ninety five percent of occupants are
Muslims in there. Is it a sudden population growth? Existing
ones stretching out from the squeeze at a price.Give us a
      break.

        WhyWhy,

This is happening not only in Sri Lanka but all around the world.

Look at who is buying the largest Real Estates, mega corporations and businesses in USA, Europe, UK, Africa, Asia and all over.

Many are not even citizens and many are recently settle down. At lease the Muslims have been living with us for a long time.

Do you think those countries are crazy to sell their Property to outsiders. I don’t think so. You have to look at the larger picture to see how everything is linked to the Economy and the progress and development of the country.

Also Sri Lanka GOVT. has given away many free land deeds to Poor and needy and there are many lands still available for expansion.

Compared to other countries, Sri Lanka has the least number of High rise Residential appartment complexes because there are still land available for expansion.

I think you have to see the bigger picture and see how everything is inter linked to the Economy and progress of a country.

People have a right to buy, sell and own land in Sri Lanka as long as they are Citizens.

As a side note, how amusing to see Malinda Seneviratne self-righteously claiming that the Nation is not pro-Government.

The fact that it is owned by a cousin of the President and was taken over after its journalists were attacked should be cause enough to suspects its impartiality. Its trumpeting of the Government policies, a few sishy-washy criticisms aside, should be further evidence.

No need to talk about that.. they kill or make people kneel down or tie them to trees, but following day, behave as if nothing is occured.. that is the culture that has infected to him too. I really dont find that MS write good articles. But he is talented as turning his wording in a cover up mission of any brutalities of the current regime. That s been proved by MS for the last few years.

Buddhism was introduced into Sri Lanka in 247 BCE but its philosophy as obtaining in Sri Lanka and how it is viewed and practised by the majority of the Sri Lankans has been coloured by works like Dhatuvamsa, Culavamsa and the Mahavamsa written after 800 years by Buddhist monks for which Lord Buddha bore no responsibility. This is the tragedy of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The late Dr.E.W Adikaram, the highly respected lay Buddhist scholar had the courage to say: “The Buddhists who get worked up over real or imaginary wrongdoings of others are injuring themselves first. They are also creating an oppressive atmosphere which is not conducive to any spiritual growth……. If Buddhism is merely an empty shell devoid of love and compassion, the earlier it disappears the better it is for the world”.

It is time the true Buddhists, those who follow the real teachings of their Lord Buddha, to step in and stop their religion from being hijacked by extremists. Just like the majority of Muslims are faulted that they do not condemn Muslim extremists around the world when they resort to any violence, very soon Buddhist will wake up one day and realize these uneducated, rogue monks, have brought embarrassment and given Buddhism a bad name. This is basically extremism and terrorism, and rogue monks given the green light to go berserk, incite violence, and attack innocent civilians. For whatever corrupt and insidious reasons, the Rajapaksa’s are encouraging terrorism in the guise of protecting Buddhism (which does NOT need protection in a Buddhist country).
