Why You Should Vote For Anura – 10 Facts

By Uvindu Kurukulasuriya

Uvindu Kurukulasuriya

Thirty years ago when I was a university student, Anura Kumara Dissanayake and I were on opposite sides politically. There have been many occasions since then when I have not been in agreement with positions he has taken. Today, I stand with him.

It’s become almost cliché to say we’re living in turbulent times. What’s less obvious is what this turbulence stems from. We need to ask why, despite so much upheaval, those in power refuse to let it reshape the world.

What’s new in examining our time is the profound confusion and uncertainty about the forces at play, both globally, regionally, and locally. On one side, we have the defenders of the status quo, and on the other, the agents of change and transformation. From the micro levels to the macro and to the planetary scale, this uncertainty about where the world is heading affects both the dominant structures and those challenging them. To begin understanding what’s happening, we must try to unravel these uncertainties. There’s no longer a clear framework to explain reality or guide action. The old grand ideological theories have become obsolete, leaving us without a solid method for formulating new approaches. Those invested in preserving the status quo simply cling to authority, and resist change. Nevertheless, forces advocating social transformation not only recognize the need to break free from these constraints but are actively engaged in challenging the overbearing, corrupt and oppressive structures. The ongoing clash between those protecting the old order and those pushing for progress is precisely what is happening and this is why the National People’s Power (NPP), led by Anura, has seen such rapid growth.

For the past 15 years, Anura and the NPP leadership have been deeply engaged in addressing critical questions and developing fresh perspectives. However, as we evaluate the present circumstances, there’s an undeniable decline in theoretical frameworks. No clear guidance or genuine attempts to resolve issues exist. This erosion of confidence has led to widespread mistrust, confusion, and a pervasive sense of despair.

We’re currently witnessing a pivotal moment in history, driven by significant structural shifts. Ranil Wickremesinghe, often dubbed the “Ping President,” claims to be an economic savior with unmatched global connections. However, it’s crucial to remember that he was handpicked by the Rajapaksa family, who fled during the uprising to protect themselves. [Meanwhile, Namal Rajapaksa, another presidential candidate, made statements with YouTuber Eraj Weeraratne a year and a half ago, remarks that many seem to have conveniently forgotten.]

Over the past 16 years, in numerous private discussions with Anura, the recurring themes of instability and uncertainty have surfaced time and again. From these conversations, I can attest to his quality as a listener and his unwavering dedication to reshaping the outdated ideologies that once dominated his party. Since assuming leadership, Anura and his team have proposed significant social reforms in Sri Lanka, and now, the pressing task is to turn those reforms into lasting reality.

Here are 10 key reasons to vote for Anura:

* Anura avoids presenting an unrealistic vision of an idealized state.

* Anura doesn’t believe that a classless society is tenable.

* Anura accepts that civil society will always face conflicts, struggles, coercions, and wars.

* Anura knows people can be influenced by corruption and the consumer economy, and he is not overly idealistic.

* Anura understands that we are moving towards an open society where transparency is key and believes in combining openness with privacy laws.

* Anura continuously studies the problems faced by different social segments in society.

* Anura recognizes the importance of a contingency approach to political and societal situations.

* Anura understands the need to create minimum conditions for all people to live decently and knows that while problems like exploitation can’t be eradicated, they can be controlled.

* Anura is aware of the threats and weaknesses faced by women, other genders, the disabled, the elderly, and children in society as well as their strengths and how to provide them an opportunity.

* Anura, as I’ve observed over the last 16 years, is always willing to learn from others and listen to anyone, making him a humble and approachable leader.

Rather than boasting about personal achievements or claiming to have fulfilled promises, Anura has built a strong network of experts from various fields, both in Sri Lanka and abroad, who remain loyal to him. This network is a true reflection of his success. I genuinely believe Anura is one of the most humble leaders Sri Lanka has seen, and that he will never allow power to cloud his judgment or change his character.

Have no fear, vote for Anura Kumara Dissanayake on September 21, 2024, with absolute certainty!

Barrack Obama did not have presidential experience. David Cameron did not have any Prime Minister experience. Barrack Obama did not change the constitution to extend his power. David Cameron did not contest once he lost. But RW after serving six time and still not prepared to hand over the Power of UNP and after failure after failure, he wants to be in Power. What a greediness of power after destroying his party and country?

“David Cameron did not contest once he lost. “
      Ajith,
I don’t think David Cameron lost the election. He lost a referendum, which he opposed, but voters wanted it. So he said there was no point in he was continuing the PM position and be subjected to implement the referendum, which he could not accept. It is like conflict of interest for the voters too. So told the voter to find somebody whom they can entrust to sincerely implement the referendum. It is much above than leaving decently after loosing; and that would be the legal position(requirement) most of the time, in democratic countries. .

        Yes, Mallaiyuran,
        .
I agree with you that Cameron’s conduct in that situation was admirable.

It is up to voters to decry the disgusting charades that we have here.

      Hello Ajith,
My mother and my wife did not have experience in childbirth until they delivered their first child. Neil Armstrong did not land on another planet until he landed first on our moon. Leaders who ruled our nation with loads of previous experience only progressively destroyed a beautiful and rich island. Leaders only need honesty, integrity, humanity, and motivation. All the rest will follow. From what I read, watched and understood, I believe AKD has the right ingredients to make a successful leader. I wish him all the best on the 21st and after that. Cheers.

Child birth is human instinct. No experience required.

Thanks, Nathan. Those are exactly my points. Natural human instincts with honesty, integrity, humanity, dedication, and motivation are the key ingredients to an excellent leader. And what about his experiences during all stages of his political life? Were they not rigorous?

And Duterte in Philippines too had no previous experience in active politics.
      .
I tend to compare AKD with Duterte not with Obama or any candidate in developed world

        Was Duterte worse than Marcos?

        • 1
          0

          Hello SJ,
I had many arguments with my Philippine Colleagues about how bad Duterte was. His war on drugs left more than 12,000 dead mostly Urban Poor according to Human Rights Watch in 2017 – https://www.hrw.org/report/2017/03/02/license-kill/philippine-police-killings-dutertes-war-drugs
They denied that Duterte had thrown anyone from a Helicopter and were speechless when Duterte admitted it – https://www.trtworld.com/asia/philippine-leader-threatens-corrupt-officials-to-throw-from-helicopter-262965
“Rodrigo Duterte’s admission that he personally threw a rape and murder suspect out of a helicopter follows his controversial claim that when he was mayor of Davao he used to cruise the streets on a motorcycle looking for criminals to kill”. Most of these same Colleagues were Marcos Junior Supporters at the Election
And Marcos Senior “historians believe that the Marcos dictatorship was marked by 3,257 known extrajudicial killings, 35,000 documented tortures, 737 ‘disappeared’, and 70,000 incarcerations.”
So yes maybe Duterte was worse, however Marcos became a Dictator after declaring Martial Law and Duterte was democratically elected.
          Best regards

“Barrack Obama did not have presidential experience. David Cameron did not have any Prime Minister experience.”
      What a logical argument!
Would anyone becoming president of prime minister for his first term have experience in the post?

        (Part I)
        SJ,
        “What a logical argument!
WOULD ANYONE BECOMING PRESIDENT OF PRIME MINISTER FOR HIS FIRST TERM HAS EXPERIENCE IN THE POST?”
Why one needs Quote experience of US and UK!!?? Nothing wrong, except, we being good at HOME-GROWN SOLUTIONS, of different and varied malaise inhibiting our socially emancipated society, should cast attention INWARDS!!??
We have enough and more LOCAL experiences – Sirimavo Ratwatte D Bandaranaike and Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga – better examples and as Sri Lankans revel to claim – ‘Home Made’!!?? They were at least glorified status as Housewife, overseeing home-needs and child-caring till they were middle aged!!??? Then due to circumstances thrown into deep-end former as PM and ‘first amongst equals’ and the Latter, first as PM for approximately 6 months and then elevated, elected as Executive President by the ‘BAHUBOOTHA VIYAWASTHAWA” as she proudly claimed it to be, but failed to abolish it as she vowed when came to Power but STRUGGLED to keep it in place for all of 2 Terms of Governmental control and Reign (!?) – Rule!!?? Once installed became Morphed herself by the Splendour, Aroma, Power of EP!!?? Now let’s see what AKD would be able to achieve with that!!??
        (TBC)

      • 5
        1

        (Part II)
Agreed you could not always find President’s and PM’s with experience, the Office of such exalted position goes with Plethora of Advisers, Experts, and Counsellors and there has been no shortage of them as could be discerned currently!!?? AKD would have MULTIPLIED EXPERIENCE IN THE ABSENCE OF HIS EXPERIENCE TO GUIDE AND GO FORWARD!!
Sirimavo had the experienced Public servant Bradman Weerakoon CCS and then CBK – Kusumsiri Balapatabendi PC!!?? As long as AKD’s Choice is ‘WISE and WIDER’ than the “ENVIRONS of the Executive Committee of JVP/NPP”, am confident He’ll be GOOD to Govern with Harini Amarasuriya MP as the able PM heading the legislature!!??

Can you imagine, our Medamulana King (shameless sinhala leader produced by SRILANKA) will never be able to give up his allegiance to the “Malechcha politics” he has become enmeshed with. To me he is the king beast of all other human beasts in srilanka. CBK has enjoyed her reitrement being out of politics for such a long time so as Cameron, Clinton and Obama. But myth-controlled MaRa broke all records in south asia.

Bugger can’t travel from A to B alone, however he doesn’t utter a single word that bugger et al were saved by the leadership of Ranil Wickremesinghe who ran GOTA and risked taking the government.

No, it doesn’t make sense. What a dumb idea. Anyway, the rhetoric is eliminating corruption. This probably gives NPP the idea that they have the people’s sympathy, just like how the majority turned a blind eye to Rajapakse thieving just because they ‘saved’ the Sinhala race & Buddhism

        Where is Dayan these days?
He reminds me of “The Rising: Nugegoda Feb 18th”
        February 19, 2015author: COLOMBO TELEGRAPH:
        An excerpt from his analysis:

“Overall the speeches were of high political quality, with progressive veterans Podi Appuhamy, Vasu, and Dinesh giving classic performances. The younger stars, Wimal Weerawansa, a pure Jacobin orator and Udaya Gammanpila, seemingly softer and more humorous, if you ignore the glint in his eye, turned in superb performances. The senior-most speaker, Dinesh Gunawardena spoke last and appropriately evoked anti-UNP memories not only of 1956 but more emphatically of 1960, in which there were two elections, the first won by the UNP and the second by the SLFP under a new leadership which could bring out the votes.”

        Where is Dinesh now?
        Where is the Jacobin orator?
        Where is Udaya?
        Where is Dayan?

Is he still licking his wounds from 1983 Attack by suspected JVP.
Has he become one of the politburo member of NPP/JVP?
        I miss him.

            OC and Native,

            Dayan continues to wax eloquent:
‘Sajith has linguistic-educational advantages his father didn’t have, but provided him. Watching the calm confidence and clarity, the measured yet unhesitating nuance with which he answers the questions posed by the Indian periodical The Week, I conclude that of all our presidential contenders, his would be the safest hand on the tiller, guiding the Lankan state with sensible centrism and pragmatic progressivism through the stormy seas of economic crisis and external contention.’

OC, unlikely if the interviewer was as mesmerised by ‘the measured yet unhesitating nuance’ as Dayan! Whether the hallelujahs are for Sajith or Anura, what a pain to read these cringeworthy articles. Seems like the authors haven’t a clue that this kind of use of language is actually doing their heroes a disservice by discouraging people to vote for them!

Dayan takes 64 positions all at the same time.
He wouldn’t mind working for all and sundries except Chandrika and Ranil.

Great admirer of Premadasa the elder, who had two guard dogs, one Douglas and the other one used to be Dayan. Douglas barked and bit in Tamil and Dayan in English.

Now Douglas has become Ranil Loyalist while Ranil hasn’t given Dayan a job.

Can anyone explain as to how and why a person switches loyalty just like that?
I admire nimal fernando’s unassailable admiration for Thiruvengadam Velupillai Prabaharan’s abilities.

Uvindu: Another compelling reason to vote for AKD
    .

A compelling reason to vote for AKD is that EXPECTATIONS raised by him to combat corruption and bring about accountability with all round good governance are so high that in the event he FAILS TO DELIVER at least HALF the expectations, the 2022 ‘Aragalaya’ which resulted in the political demise of Gotabaya Rajapaksa will be a walk in the park since his probable election will most likely be the LAST THROW of the dice by the ANGRY electors. Therefore he will be COMPELLED to deliver. This is apart from the very short honeymoon period he will be given.
    .

I hope AKD realizes that a MAJOR component of good governance must be a truly INDEPENDENT ‘Constitutional Council’ which must also bring the MEDIA under its ambit without infringing on media independence. AKD would have observed the utter PARTIALITY/ABUSE of sections of the mainstream media in the run-up to the Presidential Election. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
    .

I also hope that AKD will HONESTLY bring JUSTICE to the MINORITIES.

Sri Lankan media is also very biased and selfish too.
          .
Hiru TV telecasts only about Sajith. Nobody cares.
          How can that be?
Chamuditha did not question as he is used to do so in that interview…. ?????.
          .
In a multi journos press conf, when asked why the media did not understand that everything the current government has achieved in the last 2 years, they started biting their nails.?????

SRILANKEN media is the biggest cancer in our nation. Ethical codes should be introduced to them ASAP.

When the media becomes neutral about truth, the day begins when our people (majority of poor people) start dreaming about their future.

If, ever that RETRACTION ever should happen post-election, that may spell some good ending for this never-ending SAGA!!?? Unfortunately, some may decide to resolve it once and for all with an uncharacteristic manner, which may auger well to one and all, bringing to close this matter to an eventful, unexpected END!!?? “TIME would be the REVEAER”!?

An eminently sensible call, given the portfolio the electorate is faced with. But to those who appreciate AKD’s maturity over the years and hope for the change he inspires, there is work to be done from the 23rd onwards. Should they fail to engage, and contribute positively and practically, empty words like “Proletariat, Bourgeois”, as Plato says, will dominate the agenda in the years to come, and the AKD victory one hopes for will be a wasted opportunity.

How did this ‘maturity’ manifest itself?
Taking manifestos to the Mahanayakes seeking their blessings?
Ducking a clear position on devolution of power.
The JVP has not done no Marxist analysis that went past the ‘famous five’ lessons.
It abandoned its rural voter base after its preference became parliamentary seats. It worked to bring MR to power, it joined hands with the JHU to oppose PTOMS and to de-merge N&E.
      What a maturing process!
The revolutionary spirit of the Old Left endured much longer than that of the JVP, and the reason why the FLSP parted company was ideology.

This is an election. So judgements have to be relative, not absolute. In my humble view, AKD is showing a lot more maturity than Sajith or Ranil, or even Namal or Ariyam. Hence, Uvindu’s call makes sense to me. The point I wanted to add
simply is AKD win alone is not enough; he has no magic wand. Working with him towards a better system is what those who favour him have to aim for. Reading what I wrote again, it seems fairly clear.

        • 1

The utterance under question was not about ‘relative merit’.
It concerned the phrase “those who appreciate AKD’s maturity over the years”.
I simply drew attention to key aspects of the maturing process.

AKD has majored in Physics at university. It has bestowed him a logical clear thinking mind. Physics is the ultimate form of search for truth: God notwithstanding.

“Physics is the natural science of matter, involving the study of matter, its fundamental constituents, its motion and behavior through space and time, and the related entities of energy and force. Physics is one of the most fundamental scientific disciplines.” — Wiki

I agree, however I am worried about old guards Tilvin, Lal, Vijitha, Bimal, Sunil, ….. and ghosts of Rohana, Somawansa, …. and those old members who joined the armed forces in late 1980s due to wrath of Janaka Perera’s (Sarath, Gota, … ) death squads and of course DIG Premadasa Udugampola’s persuasion and who are still alive.

Most peaceful voters are not scared of their past history but couldn’t stand their (old guards’) hypocrisy.

What guarantees could you give there won’t be a palace coup in the near future?

My concerns exactly. A friend recently sent me a clip where the old guard JVP ‘economist’ states that there are 3 possibilities for repaying the debt, Sell govt. assets, print money or raid people’s bank accounts. In this age of AI, I am not sure of the authenticity of the speech but it seems real to me. In contrast, I also saw an U Tube interview of Dr Harsha where he explains the current debt situation with a practical approach. Obviously, there is a big difference in the education level of these two but after listening to both, it was clear what a yob the JVP member is. If this is yob get a seat in Parliament courtesy of the NPP or even be pulling strings behind the scene, we can only expect another disaster. So, will AKD with his apparent mild temperament & ‘moderate’ socialist ideology be able to crack the whip on errant members of his party? So far, he does not seem to have the tough leadership quality to get all those in the coalition tow the party line or weed out the ‘undesirables’.

          Hello Raj, LS and OC,

“So, will AKD with his apparent mild temperament & ‘moderate’ socialist ideology be able to crack the whip on errant members of his party? ?”

Thank you Raj. I have no doubt that the next disaster is on its way.

AKD and his so called experts have failed to answer many of the open questions raised by the current president.

Instead they just treated them with total ignorance and ridicule. Most of the questions raised by RW were besides very important and thought provoking to many of my friends (economists, medical graduates, engineers etc).
          .
Further to this, Our AKDists at CT have been unable to enlighten us with constructive answers. You and I have raised it many times in CT, but Guru Bandarawela (a self-proclaimed learned man who does not know Sinhala but claims to be a Sinhala man to appear prominent) does not care about our critical but crucial questions. .
          :
Two days ago, AKD said loudly in a talk show in Derana that they are going ahead with the IMF recommendations. This being his long-awaited answer, his supporters are running after him like the Gota-supporters blindly did.
What nation full of fools? There is no future for this country, basta !

Last time round, 7m voted for GR with much anticipation & I fear the mistake will be repeated if voters decide with their heart & not the head. The entire country suffered for the mistake but this time, if the wrong choice is made, SL is not going to come out of the hole & will be another Lebanon with shortages & queues for essentials..

Lets face it, corruption is now embedded in our society & eliminating corruption is probably a pipe dream, so is bring home syphoned out wealth. It is up to the judiciary to go after criminals & for the govt. to ensure its independency to do the job. The responsibility is with the voter to ensure the riffraff are not allowed in to the Parliament. The bottom line is vote for NPP & brace up for an austerity regime (banging up criminals is not going to change that) or RW & expect the status quo (at least we can be sure of no queues). The SJB has a capable bunch but it needs to drop SP.

“My concerns exactly. A friend recently sent me a clip where the old guard JVP ‘economist’ states that there are 3 possibilities for repaying the debt, Sell govt. assets, print money or raid people’s bank accounts.’

          Raj-UK,

That’s a edited and doctored clip taking what he said out of context. What he actually said was what others did: Ranil selling assets, Gota printing money, and all raiding the EPF. This happened right in front of our eyes …… but no one is critical of the people who actually did/do it but has latched on to edited clip of someone who merely said it!

Ranil and Sajith are desperate and there is a well orchestrated campaign by them to throw mud at the JVP/NPP. In contrast the JVP/NPP is not throwing mud at Ranil or Sajith.

Accepting Ranil is a crooked man who has/is behaving shamefully ……. is not supporting AKD or Sajith or Namal, ……. but just accepting and coming to terms with a bleeding bloody obvious fact of reality. Any reasonable adult mind should be capable of handling it without clouding the issue with other nonsense.

I don’t accept social media posts as the gospel truth but I was impressed with Dr Harsha’s interview while the JVP speech & manner didn’t inspire me at all. It was the same type of talk that can be expected from the current yobs in Parliament.

As for mud throwing, there is at least a Prof. throwing mud on behalf of the NPP, whether or not he has their blessing. It is this kind of propaganda that puts me off the NPP ‘ Any reasonable adult’ should be able to make up his or her own mind from available facts without overbearing pundits telling what to do.

        Native,

What guarantees did you give that Ranil wont steal half of Phottuwa and stiff the Rajapakses who made him president? ……… Why ask me for guarantees you yourself cannot give? :))))

The past of all the other players in this election are as tainted – or worse – as that of the JVP. Why try to hold the JVP to higher standards than you are willing to hold others?

Life is a game of chance …….. you roll the die …… and deal with what turns up.

The die/dice (not to confuse SM) has 6 numbers ……. we have 3 candidate with a chance of winning ……. that’s what we have to deal with.

Studying Physics doesn’t mean ……. you become an expert in Physics ……. it trains one’s mind to think is a logical manner sticking to reason.

I got 0 in Physics in the practice exam 2 months before OLs. …….. Found a Sinhalese translation of an English book of Physics left behind by someone in a place where all lost souls go to find some peace and quiet before exams. Read the first chapter, could do all the exercises given after the chapter. Read all the chapters, did the exercises in 3 weeks. Didn’t have a clue what was in the syllabus, so did what wasn’t even required. Got a distinction; the only distinction in sight for several years in the school. They thought I had cheated and assembled a panel of teachers to quiz me. The Physics teacher who had said he’ll cut off his ear and give me if I passed was the first to come around to accept I knew my stuff.

Did any of that make me a Physics expert? ……… Only trained my mind barely enough to tussle with OC for glas ……. a much more important thing in my universe ……..

      nimal,
      .
I’m sure that there’s much that we don’t yet know about AKD.
      .
I’m in no doubt about the brilliance of his intellect, but did he have the time to obtain the sort of class at Kelaniya to do justice to his intellect? Vijitha Herath:
      .
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vijitha_Herath
      .
and he were in the same batch at Kelaniya, although Anura is a few months his junior.
      .
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anura_Kumara_Dissanayake
      .
I wonder if it was a Physics Special Degree that Vijitha and he did, or a General, and what sort of class? This is not of the first order of importance! Anura had not, apparently, taken his academic work all that seriously, but his superiority was granted by Vijitha when I met the latter.
      .
The brightest students went in for Engineering, and that is what Anura started on at Peradeniya, before transferring to Kelaniya.
      .
What did “leelagemalli” do at Peradeniya? Same batch as AKD?
      .
If Anura were a “Degree Collector” he could now get himself Master’s degrees (at the very least) in History and Sinhala as well.
      .
The man is learning all the time!

          OC,
OC, the guy doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about today. He himself is very disappointed with the fate of AKD and the Lankan guerrillas who are about to seize power in two days.

To tell all, I started my degree course (dentistry and later changed to science) in Peradeniya but I never pursued them in Pera. I completed them all after moving to Germany becoming a biochemist. I talked about this again and again with Manel and some of our true commenters. My brother HT knows it well. Even though SM doesn’t know what degree course I joined, he tries to talk about me. This despicable man has no clue about any facts, but he is trying to be a pundit in CT.
What a miserable person he must be. AKD did not start Engineering, his cutoff marks were not enough to become an engineering undergraduate. That is the truth. As usual, SM loves to heroworship which has been his life motto.
To be honest, all the lies about AKD are in the air today. Some questions, who is AKD s wife and what family background he has got etc. All is treated with igonorance by lanken media. Mr Harida Harida will lead us to a hell soon, no doubt about that. May our innocient people be blessed with all invisible forces to protect them from Gota jathakaya 2.

My chocolate didn’t help him, now it’s time to send him what he deserves.Tanakola is the best match… that’s all I have to say. I don’t care who is running the election battle, knowing that it’s the people who will easily fall for the next false public opinion, I feel how stupid people must be. If the JVP dogs interfere with the IMF programs, the next tranche to be issued will be blocked… so the value of the dollar will plummet again ($500). Derana BPs and others will be fishing in muddy waters….all will boomerang to States July 2022. Yutuber BPs start sending bashing messages to grab their dollars (Kunukanda = SRILANKA).

My concern is that I am doing so little for my poor people, I have no choice but to block. I have helped some schools all these years and I have to stop them all. So will my friends in Europe, because most of them share my opinion on AKDISM. If AKDIsm takes over, the homes for the aged that I support regularly will not continue.

        Hello SJ,
There is a Photograph of the Solvay Conference 1927 in Moore’s biography of Schrodinger. All of them (e.g. Dirac, Heisenberg, Pauli and de Broglie etc) were brilliant Physicists and yet many of them had fundamental disagreements with others. Einstein and Bohr famously disagreed. Although the Standard Model has ironed out most of the wrinkles, there is still dissent at the cutting edge.
100 years before the conference the Scottish Botanist Robert Brown presented evidence of the reality of Atoms and Molecules that led to Statistical Thermodynamics (which you know well). Even in the late 1800s there were some that disputed Boltzman’s work on Thermodynamics and the reality of fundamental particles. Physicists nowadays pretty much specialise – Astrophysics, Particle Physics, Geophysics and Optical Physics etc. One of my friends from University (and School) went on to become a Semiconductor Physicist with EMI in the 1970s
And by the way Bill Gates was a first class Mathematician.
        Best regards

AKD is a Kelaniya science graduate according to Wikipedia.
“He entered the University of Peradeniya and left a few months later due to threats. He transferred to the University of Kelaniya a year later in 1992 and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in physical science”
It seems a general degree. No mention of Physics. Kelaniya nevertheless is a reputed university.
          *
He was not an undergraduate during the troubled years. The delay in graduation seems to be due to the closure of schools for 3 years.

        SJ,
        .

        .
It would be understandable for you to to say that you haven’t. How could you possibly know every guy who spent a few months there?

              OC,
              .
As usual, SM had no idea about the degree that AKD obtained.. Whatever the mentally ill man utters is far from truths.

In my time, general degrees took 3 years. SJ is absolutely right in this regard. If you specialized a degree, the time extended upto 4 years.
But making AKD an engineering student is going beyond the facts. I think that if SM loves someone (as a naive little boy would), then he doesn’t care to believe any fact-based information. This man is a sick person from birth. – is also uniquely stupid.
              .
I started my studies at Pera in 1987. And I couldn’t continue there for known reasons. The day before yesterday, SM said that I could have become a batchmate of AKD. Can you imagine that? This man has become a laughing stock for the readership today because he is so sick.

Anura might win because gullible Sri Lankans like you have accepted his misinformation and promises without scrutiny. Latest is blaming Ranil for Sri Lanka financial crisis and absolving Rajapaksa ignoring that Ranil borrowed mainly to service the existing debt and the effect of Rupee depreciation on the debt. In fact, Yahapalana borrowing were one of the lowest rates of increase in the LKR value of debt in a five-year period since 1950.

Anura promise to cut tax while increasing the public service salaries twice a year. Did anyone question how he could it without borrowing or printing money?

Why can’t the politicians simply tell the truth. Is it because if they tell the truth, they wouldn’t get elected? The blame should lie with ignorant the voters.

Developing human beings has four stages, each of which affords many opportunities to gain experiences and reach the final stage.

    1. Infancey is – “I am”
    2. Childhood is – “I can”
3, Adolescence is – But who I am”
    4. Adulthood is – ” I know who I am”

In my opinion, AKD has completed all those “10” points enumerated by the writer and has reached “Adulthood” – ” I know who I am”.

All the rest of the candidates are still struggling to pass through the “3” stages I have mentioned above.

So, my vote is for AKD.

Do you think they will deliver? The manifesto of the NPP is not as impressive as the SJB. Especially on the economy. I very much worry about their experience and capability to govern. See what happened to GR. Even with the experienced MR, when he had to face an unforeseen crisis, (i.e. covid) he was incapable of managing it.

Running a country is not easy. Even running a small business is not easy. You get demands and pressure from all sides. People by nature are impatient and selfish.

Will the NPP be able to navigate this and run a administration but at the same time be democratic, especially when the opposition and media highlight any corruption or mismanagement? Even the so called democratic leaders of SL in the past have restored to creating a fear psychosis and violence and can you expect the NPP will be different? The way some of their supports behave online towards opposing views indicates that they will be worst than the previous leaders in tolerating opposing views.

I think if you compare AKD to SP, AKD is more charismatic but I think SP at least is trying to do something and not just sticking to theory. He also has a better and decent team that is not envious of the people who are successful but also want to give opportunities for the down trodden people.

tkd, only trouble with AKD is that he is embracing the globally ambitious Hamas terrorists and hence vowed allegiance to the Palestinian embassy here, even though there is no UN state called Palestine still. This terrorism rakes up the old fears of JVP insurrections of 1971 and 1988, first against the police and the latter against university education. Hence not focused on the citizens who were robbed for 20 years by the Rajas creating poverty.

“………….even though there is no UN state called Palestine still.”

WRONG. As of June 2024, the State of Palestine is recognized as a sovereign state by 146 of the 193 member states of the United Nations, or just over 75% of all UN members. It has been a non-member observer state of the United Nations General Assembly since November 2012.

You call Hamas which came into existence in 1987, i’e . almost 40 years after Israel Forced itself on Palestine with a UDI in May 1948. Subsequently, Israeli Terrorist groups like Irgun, Lehi, Haganah and Palmach Unleashed BRUTAL TERROR Attacks on Palestinians emptying over 530 Palestinians and Forcing over 700,000 Palestinians out of their homes and seeking refuge in neighbouring Arab countries like Jordan, Syria etc. Today. they and their descendants number over 5 millions and they are STILL Refugees living in Refugee Camps who are yet to be allowed to RETURN to their homes and lands STILL OCCUPIED by the HEARTLESS and CRUEL Israelis.

Think again. Who are Terrorists? Those who FORCED OUT people from their homes and lands 76 years ago and STILL OCCUPYING their lands through UNIMAGINABLE BRUTALITIES or who were FORCED to form a Group almost 40 years LATER to fight for their rightful lands and Freedom?

From the very outset, I have been asking the question of NPP funding to do all those commendable things. If the economy is not strong, all those promises mean nothing. The last minute 300 page NPP manifesto is not bed time reading for most but none of those academics who sing hosannas to NPP have provided a costed basic strategy how they are going to raise the required funding, how much expected from cutting costs, etc. However, going by the speeches of the old guard JVP ‘economists’, I fear the worse.
I don’t mind AKD as President, provided he is able to fulfil his promises in bringing to justice those who plundered the country (a tall order to fulfil) & scrapping the Presidency & all the perks of Parliamentarians. However, the NPP forming a govt. is an absolute NO & I hope the SJB, without SP, will take that responsibility.

Even in the field of politics, Anura has proved to be an anchor in stability and steady gentleman ship though the election campaign. Anura’s present has doused the racial fire, unlike it flaring up during the campaign. Evil played a trick, last week, He attempted to pick on something where Anura had indicated that he was disappointed by ITAK supporting Valaiththodam, but not him. Evil demanded that Anura talk in an interracially high tone so he should apologize to ITAK (Tamils). But Sumanthiran MP immediately denounced the Evil allegation as Anura had the right to comment on other political parties’ actions during the election, but that was not racism. Anura did not reply to Evil, but just said “take it from Sumanthiran”. That was all about it. Would you have expected the same level of coolness in one of the earlier elections in such an event? Evil tried to install a fuse to S9 and light it. The playboy minister installed a fuse to 13A and fired it. But that Idiot, the over aged child boy, doesn’t know it was his Dada who created the word “13 plus”, meaning full 13A and upper house, for PM Manmohan Singh. Anyway, they both fizzled like duds

    Gen Z

In the hole did he lie
    All battered and torn
    Screaming in agony
    Till his pain was done

His mind, a fray of deep emotion
    Slowly, slowly, fading anon
Crying for the parents he had left behind
Crying for their pain of losing their son

In their loving hands did they rock his cradle
In their hopes and dreams did they give him poise
In happiness and peace did they give him assurance
And he was sent forth, his life just begun

But he was afraid of the daunting future
And tried to protest and give conscious rise
To the hopeless lives that could not be envisioned
To the struggles of his fellow chums

    His body they tortured
    His spirit they derided.
“Let me be reborn, Oh Buddha
    To come to my fulfillment”
Was his last cry of plea, before he died.

    And there he stands now
    Alive, and in great anticipation
    Realizing all will be well
    His country to be saved
    And granted redemption
By the work of the Socialist Men
    (RTF)

      And sniffed out each candidate
      And meowed out loud
He wanted to know, which of which candidate
      Would eat him for supper
He considered, and gave out a shudder

      He sniffed out the first
      With the Westernized scent
      And gave out a yowl
      And scattered out fast

      He saw in his vision

      The Indians to appease
Hungry and thirsty, he would still not be forgotten
And sold to China for a good many dollars

He went to the next room
      And sniffed out the second
Who had the name of Sri Lanka, drawn on his bedspread
He purred for a while, and licked his big paws
      The decided move on
For he was not sure how

He went to the third room
      And sniffed on the third
Who had the sweet smell of Lanka
On the sweat of his brows

Visions of happiness ran through his head
For he saw the many houses, where he would be fed
Trees he could climb and forests galore,
      And people with happiness
      In their beloved Lanka

Why I do not like AKD or JVP in the Malimawa Cloak.
AKD was an active member in the ’88/’89 brutal Violence, perpetrated on innocent people of this country causing hardship to the masses, by destroying public property. Today AKD is seeking a mandate to become the President. He has uttered many an uttering on Political platforms and Talk Shows which he without batting an eye lid, later denies that he never said so. He has misinformed on many issues like the requirement for rock stone to build the Port City. making allegations of the import of Lamborghini vehicles, but totally denies later to name just a few incidents. He also lack knowledge on simple multiplications. the difference between Graphite and Graphine or how Sulfuric acid is made. Besides his lack of English knowledge to interact with the outside world is a handicap to a Leader. Be that as it may, he is unable to control his own cadre like Lalkantha, Tilvin Silva, Handunneththi uttering threats before he even gets elected, indicating how bad things would be. AKD is totally dependent on the Professionals and Academics who support him now, for Policy and would be in a quandary to select without antagonizing the others. We are still not out of the woods on our Economic situation and there is no time for trial and error methods to be tested.

Gamini, Your expression of JVP in the Malimawa cloak, brings to mind the JVP insurrections of both 1971 against the police where a large number of southern youths including Manamperi beauty, were hopelessly murdered into dug pits, and the 2nd rebellion around 1988 against university education, keeping them closed for 3 years. Then students were tortured and killed in order to be able to open universities and get back to normal order. When the hiding Rohana Wijeweera was found, he was thrown into the cemetery incinerator while still groaning. No one wants a repeat as any form of socialism too will bring in a dictator of the one world order. Could these leaders guarantee the recovery of stolen assets too, which brought citizens into poverty.

“AKD was an active member in the ’88/’89 brutal Violence”
Born in November 1968, he was 20+ at the time and nowhere in a leading position. He was perhaps a university undergraduate at the time, perhaps until a few years later as universities were closed for 3 years or more sine 1988.
What is your evidence of his ‘brutal violence’?
Prejudice should not lead to wilful disinformation.

Nice try, Uvindu. It’s a pity that you have moved into advertising instead of sticking to critical journalism. In the last election Gota convinced voters that national security was the main issue at stake and managed to win a huge majority. This time AKD is set to convince an adequate majority that corruption is the main issue. I agree that wiping out corruption is critical but it is a long process – not merely a matter of throwing a few individuals in jail (via a lengthy court process) and bringing back stolen money (will take at least 12 years to get a fraction of it) but changing the ingrained attitudes of an entire society. The core and implementable issue right now is the stabilisation and growth of SL’s economy – with eliminating corruption as one critical facet. Unfortunately, NPP does not have the right economic team to achieve this – do listen to reputed experts in this field about the NPP proposals, rather than the mediocre academic/diaspora team surrounding AKD . Following blind faith and a herd mentality, rather than reason, will have tragic consequences for Sri Lanka – once unleashed not even a well-intentioned AKD will be in control.

Any sensible and decent person will naturally vote for Anura Kumara Dissanayake. However, Sri Lankans have become very selfish in addition to being swayed by bribes. This is the only hurdle that AKD and the NPP will face on Saturday. Expatriate Sri Lankans largely want a better Sri Lanka rather than freebies or personal benefits. The corrupt, parasitic scum in undeserved positions in Sri Lanka would like to maintain their own secure bubble and status quo as opposed to seeing a better future for generations to come. Those who have not listened to the philosophy of the NPP or have no capacity to understand it will vote for the other opportunists salivating for power.

People indeed calling for change, seeking alternatives to traditional political parties, hoping that new leadership might bring about different results, especially given the challenges the country is facing.hlighting how the UNP & Pohotuwa has led to financial issues, and the Aragalaya brought hope. You suggest trying the NPP as a fresh alternative, similar to how the U.S. succeeded in landing on the moon without prior experience—sometimes new approaches can lead to success. I’m looking for a comment by Raj-UK.
    .
He was insisting on a detailed manifesto by the NPP.
    .
It was only just now that I decided to properly study the manifesto, which has been on for a whole month.
    .
Raj, it would help us all if you could find the time to look at these 130 pages,
    .
    https://www.npp.lk/en/policies/npppolicystatement
    .
and give us your critique of it.
    .
I know that it will take time to let all this sink in before we can discuss this, but why not start now?
    .
I hope that you will focus on pages 55 to 60 dealing with economic affairs, since that was where you had misgivings.
    .
Getting all this out in three languages with no typos that I can detect in the English version is a real achievement.
    .
I hope that the Sinhala and Tamil versions:

      SM

I don’t have time to read 300 pages of rambling promises. All I wanted is a simple, precise statement of what is on offer & how it will be funded. It is not a preview of the budget but overall how much savings expected from cost cutting & how it is achieved, sources of revenue, ‘who is who’ in the 25 member cabinet & their qualifications. You may be aware of the ‘executive summery’ in a management report & the conclusion at the end. A busy CEO & the board will read just that & study in depth the specific details only if it raises concerns & if the figures don’t add up. For me, the same goes for the manifesto

I have nightmares of the old guard JVP, so, be clear about their role in the coalition. So far, I have only seen assumptions, probably, wishful thinking from all those academics writing in CT about the wonderful life the NPP has in store for us, not an unbiased evaluation, therefore, my original deduction of the NPP has not changed, nor, the leadership of AKD of the NPP. However, in the absence of a viable alternative, I don’t mind AKD as President, just on his promise to abolish the Presidency & the perks of Parliamentarians but NO to a NPP govt..

      Hello SM,
I just read the first page from your Link. I thought that voting for NPP would be a backward step, but I didn’t realise they wanted to take us back by 3 or 4 thousand years or so.
Read this – “Further, we propose integrating the Western medical system with the Indegenous and Ayurvedic medical systems currently practised in the country”
This is 2024 AD not 2024 BC.
What Progressive Secular Party would propose this garbage?
      Best regards

“integrating the Western medical system with the Indegenous and Ayurvedic medical systems”
It is good if done scientifically, it will make economic sense too.
They have done something like that in China successfully, and even India benefits from its traditional medical systems.
The Western medical system has become severely profit oriented and undermies preventive medicine and community medicine.

          SJ,
Even the local Ayurvedic system has become severely profit-oriented. The newspapers and TV are full of snake-oil salesmen selling pricey cures for everything from diabetes to piles. They needs to be regulated as tightly as the GMOA members, though that isn’t saying much.

            0

            oc
True. It started the day MCs from Ayurvedic physicians were accepted for medical leave.
But there are plenty of snake oil peddlers with an MBBS degree who knowingly peddle harmful medication.
Over prescription of drugs, clinical tests and hospitalization is a disease of private medicine here.
The case for strict regulation of any medical practice is strong. SWRDB did not act in time to put things right. Then on no one dared.

          Hello SJ,
I have experience with both the UK and Sri Lankan NHS systems. Walk into Asiri Hospital (Kandy) in Molgampola and then visit Peradeniya Teaching Hospital (or even Kandy Hospital). The difference is striking. It is like going back to Florence Nightingale times (1850s) in the Crimea. I am speaking about the conditions in the Wards. Asiri is fully Private, however most of the Doctors practice in the NHS Hospitals. You can wait quite a few hours in Asiri for the Doctor to show up after his/her Duty is finished in the State Hospitals
As for Ayurvedic it is NOT based on Science at all. Show me any evidence of Double Blind Trials of any of their “Medicines”. They even promote Homeopathic Medicines. I have seen with my own eyes a Doctor prescribing Antibiotics and including 2 or 3 packets of Ayurvedic/Homeopathic Juju Medicine.
The UK has a system of General Practitioners (Doctors) and everyone is Registered at a Practice. When my Sri Lankan Wife registered at my UK GP’s Practice in 2021, she was immediately offered a full Health Scan Appointment.
My sisters are still part of the Children of the 1950’s Study https://www.abdn.ac.uk/achds/environment/birth-cohorts/children-of-the-1950s-317.php#panel297

Medicine was nowhere near a science until a century or so ago.
It was based on experience for millennia everywhere. It has worked well on all five continents for the people. many of the modern medicines are based on traditional medicines and herbs.
With all the science that has gone into medical practice, they still screw up patients even now. I have first hand experience of patients being messed up by Harley street specialists. The business content of medicine has overshadowed science for many decades now.
I know that many ayurvedic practitioners are corrupt and cheat, because they try to compete to meet “consumer demand” for quick results. A holistic system of treatment cannot offer fast results like patent medicine does often.
Let us not confuse bad practices with the validity of any system of medicine with a long history to it.

            LS,
“As for Ayurvedic it is NOT based on Science at all.”
Of course it isn’t. It’s about as scientific as the use of leeches in Western medicine 200 years ago. What we know now as the scientific method (which is quite valid) is a relatively recent invention.
Ayurveda is much more ancient, and is based on trial and error. Even animals know by instinct what plant to munch on when they are off-colour. Talking of Science, we still don’t know how Paracetamol works, even though we use it.
Aspirin nowadays, for example is solidly part of Western medicine, but it originated from herbal medicine Even a Neanderthal skull was found with pain-killing bark embedded in its teeth.
Ayurveda and the Buddhist clergy are closely connected, and they share the problem of poor regulation. There are lots of quacks pretending to be great healers or preachers. Even Western medicine would be full of quacks if it wasn’t regulated.

Pundit, the Rajas were the main robbers and did not leave anything left for other robbers. Whatever AKD promises, he will gather the economy from those who saved their own through hard work and self sacrifice. A leader is expected to converse in the common English language.

When you vote for AKD, remember that you are not voting for AKD but for the NPP which is a coalition of many organisations, each with their own leaders and demands.
    .
When you vote for the NPP, remember that you are not voting for the NPP but for the most powerful organisation within it, the JVP with its ambitious deputies who contradict their leader’s statements.
    .
When you vote for the JVP, remember you will get the JVP in whatever form it ends up as.

    • 1
      1

Paul, your warning has much substance and recalls the past history of the JVP of 1971 and 1988. The word NPP too focuses on working with the economy already in the nation’s citizens.

    • 8
      1

      Paul,
“When you vote for the JVP, remember….”
      Very well put.
I was considering the contradictions within the JVP and the NPP myself . AKD seems to mean what he says. In a naive sort of way, he expects to push through a welfarist program to bring down the cost of living by “eliminating corruption”. But neither he nor anyone else has provided definite proof of any significant “stolen money” that will repay our debts.
AKD has promised to end the Executive Presidency, but it maybe in his own interest to continue it. If the JVP old guard decides to take over the Party, AKD could be left high and dry as PM. But an Executive President can’t be removed except by impeachment.

old codger, the best promise AKD gave was to end the Executive Presidency as he will be in a more stable position as Prime Minister in a government that involves a lot of people with talents and experience, which will help AKD to govern effectively as an excellent political leader. He will also be in parliament all the time to see for himself anything which needs to be attended to urgently if necessary. PM is a better position than EP and longer lasting.

This election is going to be the worst election in SL’s history. All three leading candidates are career politicians, anti-Sinhala Buddhists, controlled by the local church and 1ndian government, and have NO VISION.

Thanks, Uvindu for your 10-point explanation on why people should vote for AKD. There are more points why people should not vote for Ranil or Sajith. Both of them and their teams are directly responsible for the present economic and political crisis, and corruption in the country. It is not Ranil who has rescued the country, but the IMF! The JVP has changed as a political movement, and it is on that basis that the NPP is formed. AKD is completely a new type of leader from a poor background with university education and long-standing political experience. They may have to be more responsive to the rights of minorities in the country. The minorities of the country also should be more responsive to AKD and the NPP.

The manner in which you draw attention to the rights of minorities – more responsive to the rights of minorities – is demeaning to Tamils.
Tamils are not looking for charity.
Tamils share the same load – burden – at the yoke!

      LF,
you are said to have worked for the world in many areas. Most of all, I remember you as a true supporter of SIRISENA-MARA govt lasted just 52 days. So are u you not corrupted ?
      .
Apart from that, why did not raise the question why did Greece take 12 years to just raise their head from their falls. Besides, Greece is a developed country.
Dont you want to share the readership that it was the pro leftists govts that stood on the way of greek economic recovery process?

. That is the reason them to extend their due recovery steps ?Why on earth do you or the like pundits stay mum in this regard ? how can you close your eyes soon knowing that you the kind of scholars are wrong ?

The question is RANIL or not others, if any leadership saved the nation, we should be grateful to them.
I also dont understand MEDAMULANA thirisana aka Mahinda Rajapkashe to stay mum today, when asked about his opinion, knowing that he and his life were rescued by RANIL wickramasginhe 2 years ago. Mobs could kill them in that dangerous moment. All rajapakshes were driven away withotu their traces. Later mahinda and his bandit wife were found in a ship … remember ? Why on earth do our beasts forget everything at once ?

      Laksiri,
Under a AKD/NPP government, would the person who orchestrated as incumbent Vice Chancellor of the University, the grant of Honoris Causa D. LITT to a Thief and Robber, to whom it was awarded, TAKE-BACK that from the undeserving recipient!!?? Will wager you wouldn’t!!?? No wonder, all minions, Intellects, Corrupt all become SUB-SERVIANT to Master Corrupt purveyor of Mischief, Bad and Evil Prevails!!??

Ranil is in the ring to save his place in the West which Sajith is challenging .
AKD is behaving like we are off the hooks of outside world . Is NPP formed
to kill JVP or JVP is to swallow NPP ? Darkness OR Light ? AKD is signalling
to the West , nothing will change except some spring cleaning while assuring
the locals that Walawwas will be uprooted . Is it that simple ? They all will
    disappear just like that ?

@nimal fernando, As far was I know Hambanthota Harbour was not sold. It was leased for 99 years and the money was used to pay the maturing International Sovereign Bonds unrelated to the port. If this was not the country would have been bankrupt many years ago.

“If this was not the country would have been bankrupt many years ago.”
      Not really.
      It was an unwise move.
The government should have gone for austerity measures that curtailed wasteful sending on luxuries and not pampered the wealthy.

      gamaya,
–
“It was leased for 99 years” ……. True.
–
99 years is a long time …… for all the living citizens now …… it’s as good as sold.
–
“the money was used to pay the maturing International Sovereign Bonds unrelated to the port.”
–
So Ranil still has the loan of billion or so borrowed by Mahinda, well above the going market rate of interest at the time? ……. And we still have to pay interest on it? …….. Let alone the principal ………
–
“pay the maturing International Sovereign Bonds”
–
I thought bonds were paid off by issuing more new bonds. ……. The sale of Hambantthota Harbour netted only a billion or so ……. where did all the other money come from to settle maturing bonds?
The Hambanthotta Harbour is a public asset ……. is there a published document with the breakdown of all the details that the public can access? ……… Or is it a underhand/secret deal like Ranil’s Andani deal?
–
After all these belong to the citizens …….. or does Ranil believe that he is far above in intelligence than the citizens ……… there’s no need for the citizens to know?
–
The state of the country …… and the amounts borrowed left right and centre ……. and his own ludicrous position, he is in now, surrounded by all the crooks ……… doesn’t indicate he is very smart: in spite of what he might think.

It is a wonderful feeling to sense that AKD is emerging as the charismatic leader and champion of the politically and economically oppressed people from all social classes, ethnic and religious groups. Hopefully, September 21, 2024, will be a major turning point in our history, the threshold of a major social & political revolution, which would occur through the ballot box.

Achievements of Aragalaya 2022 were destroyed by the Police State to whom Gothabhaya transferred his Presidential powers. The anticipated objective of Aragalaya, a lasting change of the System of Governance, and equity in law enforcement, was betrayed by the Police State run by those very same ilk of politicians that operated successive corrupt regimes since its independence. Hopefully, the anticipated victory of AKD, would put an end to our feudal system of governance, the corruption at high places, which made this country a bankrupt international beggar-state for its survival.

The general public has now realized that they have been deceived and abused by crafty politicians of major parties that held power hitherto; mercifully, this time round, the public has realized that they have been deceived, and rightly so, they have now amassed right behind this charismatic Socialist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake who hails from a humble, under privileged social background, and speaks their language.

    Dear Readers,
    .
    PART ONE

    .
Let me record the time at which I’m actually making this comment (22:08) since this might become very important.
    .
Ranil Wickremasinghe has surely broken the law by giving this 27 minute interview to Palki Sharma, who is now in Sr Lanka:
    .
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLXX9NijWMQ&lc=Ugx_btIdNytfi06YcyZ4AaABAg.A8ZgPDOJ00jA8_7jzz5Tet
    .
    It says 8 hours ago;
    .
I first saw this interview at 16.27. There were only about a 150 comments. I made a response to somebody else’s comment, but owing to my contacting my two daughters about something else, I didn’t submit it right then.
    .
There now are 1419 Comments and 33K views. Let me not waste time telling you what they are.

      PART TWO
      .
      The question is
when this interview was recorded?. There is no indication that I have so far seen, but if it was today, it is the clearest of violations of Election Laws. Even if it was yesterday, broadcasting it today was a violation.
      .
Something that ought to be checked is Palki’s passport. When did she enter Sri Lanka? Let’s not start blaming her, though; it is Ranil who is to blame!
      .
Note this other programme also recoded by Palki Sharma: 56 minutes.
      .
85K views; 14 hours ago, and it has only 145 comments.
      .
In it she says, she is in Colombo – I have yet to listen to it all.

        SM,
Since you are obviously so neutral and unbiased, why don’t you report this guy AKD, who still has election propaganda on his FB page?
The time now is not 22.30

          Paul,
          .
We need to get some doctors ready for him this Sunday. I would have done that if I had.
          :
There are also parts of tribal Africa and Latin America where humans behave like our sinhala man. Zimbabwe ended up the kind of mentality as of today.. Alas, the Sinhalese man and his mental problems are incurable.
